Heyo guys,


A brief introduction:

Im new to dakka but I come to you today with my skaven army (it has been posted on a few other forums around the net) I have been working on and off on my skaven now for about two years Im just really starting to put in the effort to finish it and hopefully auction it off on ebay before the fall when I go off to college. I am 18 I have been in the hobby for nearly as long as I can remember, I love to paint and sculpt!
Some things you can count on in thread are regular updates, interesting* creations (after all it is a skaven blog) tutorials if requested and lots and lots of pictures conceptual drawings ect, currently I am toying with some warmachine but dont expect much of that my focus will be primarily skaven and a tid bit of 40k here and there. I beg you for constructive criticism after all I will be attempting to sell the final product! if you have any questions do not hesitate to PM me or post here!

Hey guys, I've done a wee bit of work sense my last post as requested I attempted to take a better photo of the clanrats ( let me know if these are what you were looking for)



Clanrats and such, I've been approaching painting the clanrats I'll post a comparison below but essentially the reason for this is time. With my painting style I like to place an emphasis on flesh, Im looking to achieve a sickly skin tone over all but I want to get it done quickly! Ill post two clanrats bellow of the two different methods please let me know which you prefer and which you think might help me sell this army better! please I could use all the feedback I can get and I'd really appreciate it!

hey guys, I obtained some more gs the other day so im going to continue chugging away with my hellpit abomination, I despise the GW model although it does have some good bits.... This thing is almost entirely scratch built. Uhmm well let me know what you guys think and please help me out wit the clanrats!

heyo guys, this threads been a little dead but I thought I'd post a quick update for whom ever (if anyone ) still follows this blog. Recently I have found myself wanted to explore more 40k, especially giving true scale space marines a try. Im hoping to order some raven guard stuff of forge world (they are rather awesome) and possible some chaos renegade guardsmen junk....

Back to skaven.

I am continuing to work on my hellpit along with several dozen clan rats, although I really would appreciate some feedback on them!! please I'm begging you!!

Heyo guys, todays update.

Im nearly done with my latest grey knight project.





Both arms still need a little work along with the banner other then that just finishing up the base and he's good to go. Im hoping to throw him up on ebay as a trial mini :O we'll see how this goes!

I went about creating a pay pall and ebay account today, hopefully someone will be interested in my stuff especially my skaven, I have been considering making molds of the vermin lord and putting a few of them up online I understand this may not be the best idea because of legal recourse but Im interested in taking the risk. I'd really love to hear back from some of you guys who regularly auction your stuff off and do commission work because I am having a difficult time valuing my work, please any help would be appreciated.

These Skaven are fantastic! It makes me sad that they're just thrown in a box like that when they deserve a nice carrying case. It might be wise to invest in one since you don't want any of those great models to break or have their paint chip. Or is that box just a temporary thing until the army's done?

they've been out of that box for months, but I really do need to find a proper carrying case I have to repair chips more often then Id like!

Hey guys Todays update:

So I really did enjoy my tampering with 40k, I think I'll paint up a kreig squad I have over the next week throw them up on ebay too. I spent much of today sorting through various boxes rescuing stray skaven and organizing them!! I hope you guys are proud I also am working on my hell pit, im homing to finish green stuff work tonight and begin painting tomorrow C&c welcome as always and if anyone likes my work and wants to help me out check out my ebay auction on draigo!

The HPA looks really awesome and disturbing, but I think he's a bit top heavy. I would add a third leg. This will not only make him more abnormal and weird, but will also solve his problem of looking too much like a more top-heavy squig.

Im planning on really adding a lot more gore to it, similar to what i did with the blinded rat ogre, Im working some greens into the flesh tone too give it a decaying look! let me know what you guys think! ps dont forget about my ebay auction :(

REALLY nasty looking. I definitely think it looks better now that it has some more limbs. I'm especially fond of the wall of gnashing teeth on the left side.

I'm not sure about the green right now. Definitely brighten it up with some sickly bone or putrescent bright green colors to really make it look decayed. Right now it looks out of place with the mesh of red and flesh tones.



P.S.

How exactly did you make that Vermin Lord? The only part of it I recognize is the tail from the HPA.

Love your Hell Pit Abomination and the selection of new colors you've added to your clanrats. They definitely have a "horde" feel to them.

I like the way that the Clan rats don't seem to have a uniformed sense to them. They just seem like a ragtag band of rats grouped together charging at the foe!

How is your HPA size wise to the original? It looks massive!

I like the varied clothes colors in your clanrats (do skaven wear clothes or just rags? )

I think your facial highlights are pretty extreme, IMHO, on both Calgar and Draigo. Ever think about toning it down?

my abomb is only slightly bigger than the original model :O! and my recipe for flesh does seem to take a pretty extreme approach to highlighting skintones it would be fun to mix it up a bit

Great work on Azhag, that is such a cool model. I'm guessing you don't have the Finecast version Hopefully pinning and such wasn't a problem.

I'm loving your Great Pox sculpt! The facial proportions really are disturbing (ala Prime12357). He seems a bit stubby, though. Have you thought about adding a little body length?

Thanks! and the portions are changeling, as it is right now he is exploding off his base.. I still have a lot to do with the legs, I'm not sure how much i could add to the body length without making it too large! and yes that is not the finecast azhag...

Thanks! I love sculpting, but I've been doing it for a while I think the key to green stuff is to use water, especially if you are using metal tools.

I must say I'm very much enjoying your thread. Skaven, Azhag...a fellow hobbiest after my own heart. Everything is absolutely beautifully painted btw.

Is there a battle standard bearer in your skaven army? Always keen to see a unique one

The screaming bell was one of the first skaven models i purchased, I lost a lot of the parts and just last night discovered most of them. originally intended to have two rat ogres pushing the bell from behind, but do to the size of the base and the amount of modeling needed to make it happen I decided to put skaven slaves in their place. the Old warpfire cannon pushers were excellent for it along with a single shield barrier from the jazziel kits I put a number of the newer plastic models in between the older metal models to give it more of the pushed into battle vibe, I constructed the base of cork sheets, I highly recommend this to anyone working with a larger model it really does help build some character. Along with the bell I built 40 skaven slaves, I'll probably build another 40 with the remaining clan rat bodies I have left so I can get this army finished up and ready to sell. Let me know what you guys think, you can expect some painting in progress pictures of the bell later tonight!




yes i know i really need to find that rat ogres hand.

Digging the base on that bell. It makes the model look even more dynamic. You can almost feel the bell swing back and forth.

heyo guys, I just ordered a cockatrice and some other goodies online! I've been working on my skaven slaves.............. its going by painstakingly slow but after they are done most of my core units will be completed !!!!!

My goal for today was to finish the slaves! and I am soo close one more rank and they will be done thank god, then I'll try to finish up the bell tonight. After a lot of thought I am going to officially begin offering my painting services, which i would like to continue doing while i am in college to help keep up a steady cash flow I will have more information on a blogspot account which will be up in the next few days if any ones interested. Im planning on keeping pricing relatively cheep because I enjoy it so much! well here are the slaves!

The gold looks fantastic, though I think the model looks a little monochromatic at the moment. Maybe add a spot color?

Hey guys its been a while again, Im trying to have my skaven done by wednesday. thats right wednesday! I distracted myself with Lysander today... well here he is, the shield is still WIP i messed up the crest and white paint came out a little two thick though! I havent done anything more with celestine but i probably will have her up on ebay soon toon!

I've just returned from vacation from Nantucket, those of who (if anyone) who follows this blog would not have known that to begin with because I didnt post it.

yes I know he looks a bit silly the real reason why I have painted this model like an avatar of kaine is because I desire to purchase one! I wanted to test or that sort of charred crackly technique on the next best thing! The gun looks like absolute garbage right now It still needs a lot of work, I think I'm going to drop the blue entirely!

Todays update is extremely random, I finished my first and only warmachine jack today!!! I've had this Phoenix sitting around for the past few months, I didn't like the original stance much at all and this this what i came up with. I hope you enjoy!

Fire Dragon looks awesome, but not sold on that blue gun either. That warmachine mini looks really good. I like the crackling effect you did on him, especially on his shoulders.

Hey guys, I'm visiting my brother in Brooklyn I stopped by the GW store and bought a black dragon, something to work on in my down time! I have taken on a Dark Eldar army! stay tuned for regular updates on them! As far as other future projects go stay tuned for a lot. I am planning another fantasy army but I'm a bit torn on it. Hey guys! Its been a while and it is time for an update! Today Neconilis's Dark Eldar arrived! I got started right away with some of the warriors, Let me know what you guys think! The past few weeks have been a little hectic getting ready to go off to school at the end of this month but I've been pretty much booked out until the end of September with commission work, which is awesome honestly I don't think I could be happier!





and on a random note check out this black dragon.... I need to spray it with matte varnish to kill the glossy effect other then that the wings the rider and some touch ups and it will be on eBay! Stay tuned for updates on the Dark Eldar I will be doing a lot of work with them over the days to come!

here are some four minute landscape paintings I did today. Okay well back to the Dark Eldar, The warrior squad of ten just needs some touch up and they will be completed! I started a venom tonight which resulted in me staying up into the wee hours of the night! well I hope you enjoy!

It was nothing particularly difficult. They're stock standard Cephalyx Overlords that I clipped the syringes off of and then replaced with the end pieces of Disintegrators. I was looking for something easy to represent a Liquefier Gun, and after building several Raiders and Ravagers I had over a dozen Disintegrators left over and they worked perfectly.

hey guys! So Hurricane Irene has kept me busy the past few days, It took out all of the town where my college is electricity. Classes are postponed until later this week or next week so I had some time to do some more working finishing up the Dark Eldar!












So I have completed the bases on everything but the one incomplete raider, whats left is detail work on most of the sails, some of the crew members, the visor of one of the venoms and a few other details here and there !!

Uhh sooo something special came in the mail today.

Looking forward to that! Man, you got that quick.

I'm home for the weekend from college so I thought I would build the vermin lord prime it and bring it back with me! I still have a little bit of painting left to do on the Dark Eldar project today I will have better photos of all of them up tonight!

Hey guys its been a little while so today I'm making a rather large post that mark the beginning of three very different projects!



the first project is an all level three commission, shadow spectres and a wriathseer these are some seriously awesome models, I will begin painting tomorrow!



also a mech mini project, this is my first experience with these models but I really must say just how impressed I am by them, painting will start tomorrow for them as well! Lastly I have a sculpting commission working around the new astroth model and turning him into mesphiston! The model arrived today so I will get sculpting tomorrow night as well! but that is it guys stay tuned for updates, the Vermin lord is nearly complete I'm just touching up the staff and base. Anywhoo thanks for viewing !

here is a quick little update this morning, I have some gem work left on the wraith-seer along with the spear and some more runes!

Hey guys I did some more touch ups on the wraithseer, also i started some more of the shadow spectres and began my Mephiston sculpting project today!

He looks great! Nicely done on the weathering across the mini and good color choices, too. Shadow Spectres are coming along quite nice as well.

Wicked stuff. Damn the skin on your vermin lord is looking gorgeous!

Like the Dark Eldar a lot. The simple paint scheme is really striking.

The eldar spectres still have a lot of highlighting left to do, the wraith lord has some more rune work and some gem touch ups, Mephiston still has a long way to go although its just a sculpting not painting project! I'll have more updates for you guys soon! also early next week I will begin a MASSIVE WOC army so stay tuned for that

The spectres are looking great!

Hey guys here is a quick update, the eldar got sent back today here is a group shot of the merc minis



and here is some progress of the WOC project, the goal is to tie the some khorne units back into the tzeetchy lightning scheme it's still very WIP but let me know what you guys think!

Looks good to me, especially if you keep the red tone more muted.

The axe is looking nice. The red is also pretty cool

Really nice painting on all the models. Especially liking the vermin lord; he is epic !

Oh God... I have plans to treat myself to some Shadow Spectres plus Exarch towards Christmas providing that I get on with my life. So... awesome.

Wow thanks for the boom of feedback guys it was really unexpected! here's a quick update of some of the recent progress on the army!






here the two hellcannons, both are still very WIP. They are awesome models but assembling a hell cannon was one of the most painful experiences of my life.

It's massive to say the least. 3 blocks of warriors and a unit of 52 marauders! I'm trying to get most of it finished this week but it will be though!

The standard bearer looks really cool. The eyes look great!
I think the shrine could use a little more detailing on the icon, and the cork edges might stand to be roughed up a bit more so that each layer doesn't look as regular. Still, it looks pretty good now. Can't wait to see the finished army

I agree I wish I had come up with a little fancier icon, but I hope this pattern makes things come together a bit more!

Awesome shrine, looks very similar to how I made my own shrine for my Slaanesh army! Can't wait to see more work.

Beautiful work! Just wondeful. Did you build the Hellcannons or did they come to you assembled? I have one and it didn't come with instructions. I've stared at it and played around with the pieces and I just can't figure out how to get it together.......as dumb as that sounds now that I've said it...it's been sitting on my shelf for a year now 'cause it's driving me nuts.

I built one of them, it was easily the most difficult model I have ever assembled. I can give you some help via PM if you need it

Wow, so its been far to long and I have an all to patient customer who has been a saint dealing with juggling my academic commitments and my commission work!

The eldar are looking really cool, particularly the howling banshees and the gems on the warwalkers. It seems to me that the new camera is already paying dividends, though a good lightbox may be helpful.

thanks! and a lightbox is something I really need to invest in, it might be hard though because Im always bouncing between my dorm and home!
