After reading the new GK codex i noticed that there was comment made about a box in the center of Titan that contains some dark secret only the Supreme Grand Master can know.
Does anyone know whats in the box, or have any Theorys as to what it might be.
P.S. If there has been threads about this before im sorry i didn't realise
I think that's the box with a single piece of paper that said " I am not true god. Sing: Emperor of Mankind".
Seriously, who knows. Maybe the most horrible secrets ( like Dark Angel truth ) are hidden there. And something that can make a stench on the Emperor's name.
My person theory/belief is that the box contains an order to kill the big E. Why? I think that the Emperor knew about those worshiping him and knows that if he dies he will become a "chaos god" even though he does not want to. He will only accept this fate, yes even over being a skeleton, if it is the only option for humanities survival. So when we (humanity) come to the brink of being ended, the Supreme Grand Master pulls the plug and the the Emperor saves the day.

Good thesis but if you've read starchild (i know not everyone agrees with it) when the Emperor finaly goes because of all the psykers who sacrificed themselves to give him power and keep him alive the Emperor will come back as a god and will continue the fight for mankind as a god
has anybody read the Michael Crichton Book "Sphere"?
But in all seriousness I bet Ward just thought he was being witty and putting a reference to Pandora's box in the codex- I mean... who else would have it except the grey knights. Too bad its already been opened and the only thing remaining in the box is "hope".
If you take the Pandora's box metaphore far enough, you could argue that whoever opened it released the chaos gods upon the world.
Basically Grey Knights are a bunch of dicks and keeping all the hope to themselves while the Imperial Guard gets its hands dirty and deals with the evil .

It's pretty much the same as the final vault in FFG's 'Deathwatch' RPG - i.e. a deep dark secret thing unknown even to the people who guard it that is only to be opened under particularly grim circumstances, and will probably never actually be revealed.
Of course, the difference between the two is that there is a very slim chance that FFG actually does intend for their particular macguffin to be revealed, while the box on Titan will remain forever the subject of guesses.

So, Pandoras Box (Jar) contains all the evils of the world and when it was opened all the evils came out except hope... so hope is evil?
As a Newcastle United supporter I can confirm that hope is evil...
I think it is something like the top from inception and when you look at it you realize your just in a dream and that YOU control everything that is happening.
My personal opinion is that it has some way of detonating either the Earth, or maybe every single planet in the universe, afterall... it is called the "Terminus Decree". The name kinda says it all.
Maybe it uses the Astromacian (forget how it's spelled) to wipe out life, afterall the Emperor still does generate that.

IIRC my greek mythology, Zeus' plan was that hope would be killed by all the evils released before it (because he basically wanted the human race to die at the time). Which is why it was at the bottom of the box. But Pandora was able to stop hope from escaping, thus saving hope for mankind.

I beleive that whatever is in the box, needs to be hidden and kept there because it NEEDS to be hidden.
I doubt it will be anything to do with the starchild theory/humanity making a comeback at a given time.
Its more logical *i know ive broken a sacred rule that logic does not apply * that the contents of the box are damaging to the Imperium or would be if the contents fell into the wrong hands (eg a hidden copy of the book of magnus? im just playing with ideas other than killing the emporer etc)
On a tangent though, the book of magnus could explain some source for their improved power against demons? Dont have a full understanding of the book but i jsut came up with the idea

Well, i believe that after his ten millenias of exile Draigo will return to titan and open this box to unleahs mens hope as he will realise that he is the Emperors true Successor and he will lead humanity to wipe out all this warp and xeno scum.^^

Draigo can't be the emperor's successor... He rarely shows up to work as it is, why should he get a promotion?
FieserMoep wrote:Ten millenias with "unstoppable" Fight against the Chaos in the Warp itself without getting corrupted is quite more Work than you can expect.^^
considering the nature of the warp 10 millenia in real time could have been 2 seconds in warp time... just saying.
Well if its a "terminus decree" im guessing its something like the emperors last will and testament. "leave my un drained psykers to tzeentch etc" "let the c'tan in mars come out so draigo can carve 'dragio <3 the emperor' on the c'tans face" "build a robot to carry a robot like a baby bjorn that has a techmarine strapped to the back named 'master' and a termninator strapped to the front named 'blaster' both the robot and carried robot have guns and nemesis death cannons attached to nemesis death force halberds." the note also says "nemesis death force halberd prototype in box to left of this box"
Lady Malys Little Black Dress & other assorted lingerie - so despite Vects protestations of 'not having sexual relations with that wo-eldar', we know he's lying.
Read the new HH book "Age of Darkness", it's about a book written by a remebrancer about the truth of the horus hersy; this remembrancer was taken to Titan.
I think its going to be the emporer's real name, will, and a very long rant of all the things he hates (including jeffrey the mailboy who kept throwing his paper in the bushes).
I think the death order of the emperor, so he can be reborn as a god or not.
Or maybe its the truth about the primarchs true chaos related origins.
Or some sort of warp power artifact that would embrace the power of chaos but save humanity.
Although the info on the 2 chapter would be understandable, but they will never be revealed because it allows you to make you own 1st founding chapter.
And if you've read mechanics there a book witch contains a life force of grate power. so maybe its a c'tan god.
Has anyone thought of asking the emperor if he was a c'tan?
I don't like the idea of it been lettering of any sort.
How boring would that be-A magical mystery box, humanities best kept secret (That's saying something) And whats in it? A nametag for the Emporer saying
HI!
MY NAME IS ______
NICE TO MEET YOU!
Or maybe it's like a super secret fortune cookie

Yup, thats exactly what i meant. He comes back as the Starchild (a chaos god really), even though he never wanted to be such a thing, then whoops all 4 major chaos gods real good, thus saving humanity!
My guess is that it's Alpharius's inter-warp cell phone number and the code to tell Alpha Legion to return to the Imperium.
The Truename of one of the Lords of Chaos? That would be kind of cool. As an absolute last ditch, the Imperium forces a daemon god under its control... Which almost certainly means it's going to make a personal mission to kill everybody in the galaxy as soon as it breaks free (and, c'mon, it will.)
More than likely, though, it's an order to kill the Emperor.
Dear beloved friend,
I am pleased to announce and inform that you have been searched as the last descendant from the emperor. As such, please make the contact so we may discuss the urgent matter of your inheritance- all I require are a few personal informations.............
I say that cause of three parts in it in relation as a whole to chaos, One: the whole thing is about chaos knowledge but the only ones able to enter it or have are...
"The Library's mind defends itself, barring the weak and corruptible. Only those who have mastered the Chaos within themselves are able to enter."
Only two groups come and go at will: the Human Illuminati and the Eldar Solitaires."
"The Inquisitor Czevak gained entry once, but had to prove himself worthy."
"Inquisitor Jaq Draco also managed to find a way into the Black Library and steal the Book of the Rhana Dandra, aka the Book of Fate."
So my guess is it's paper work on a map to the entrance of The Black Library, List of the Human Illuminati, List of Collaborating Eldar that hate chaos.
Having only heard of this box in this thread, my first thoughts were some kind of archeotec that no one knows how to make, use or even really what it does any more.
I'd like to think it's another of those bits of technology or knowledge that the imperium would dub heretical if a techpriest were to even suggest it in 'todays' imperium. Something that could elevate the imperium back to it's level of haughty grandure but something they were too scared to use save they bring the blight like that of the Iron men back down on themselves so they locked it away and over time people just forgot....as is the way of the imperium it sometimes seems.
It's hinted at in the Grey Knights Codex, probably something to destroy the Imperiums enemies as a last resort, but would obviously cripple it if it were used as it is just now.
My guess is the orders to let the emperor die so he can be ressurected more powerful to lead humanity again, probably to coincide with the time the astronomican dims totally.
Ofcourse, they will never know this as GW can't advance the storyline
Maybe its the emporer's soul itself, i say that because you pskyers are using the warp and then draws chaos to want to corrupt them but by putting it in the box he can keep it protected and right now he is a soulless husk though he is kept in the box
I have a feeling that this may be the Terminatus Decree. No one knows what is in this decree, but it is only to be opened in the imperium's hour of need.
The only thing known about it is that it may only be opened by the supream grand master of the grey knights and that it contains a seal matching that on the golden throne...
Grey Templar wrote:the survivors of the Eisinstein were Deathguard and 3 Lunawolves.
very little inflence from the Lunawolves.
Don't forget about the soldier that accompainied The guy and don't forget about big spoiler......
Spoiler:
Cerebrus = =======
Spoiler:
LOKEN BABY
There was another luna wolf that surivived he was on terra as a representative....
What is inside the box is a thing that allows the instructions on how to reactivate the 2 lost legions, who had been sent into stasis until needed, this is also crippling in that the codex astrates will be burnt and will be replaced by a militaristic ruler. And the Highlords of terra except in the exception of the Chief Custode are executed and replaced by the two specially trained primarchs, Supreme Grand Master, and the chapter masters and other suriviving loya primarchs in that the war council is remade and the council of terra reinstated.
Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings.
Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.
(quoted from: Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb)
In the Over the Edge RPG, the last scenario in the book had a twist like that where the player characters realised they were imaginary creations in a social game... very much "breaking the 4th wall".
Of course, if we knew what was in the box, it would become uninteresting so it must remain a secret.
I suppose the terminus decree is likely a self destruct button for the golden throne which can be activated when the gak hits the fan as a last resort. But by giving it to the grey knights it can actually be used when chaos actually wins and they have no other choice, the high lords of terra and custodians would never even consider it even if the 4 chaos god materialized on Terra.
However how about two other possibilities.
It could be an order to kill every human susceptible to taint and the means to do so perhaps a hyper intelligent nano virus the likes of which was outlawed in the imperiums earliest days, this would eventually end up destroying chaos and whilst the majority of humanity would die life would eventually reseed in the galaxy.
Or it could contain an actual chaos god, no im not talking about the big 4 but how about Malaal ? i know hes been retconned to gak but imagine if it contained the ultimate weapon against a chaos god whose sole purpose is to destroy chaos, didnt he used to support renegade inquisitors and the like ?. Im picturing something similar to Hellsings Alucard. Would make for a great last ditch effort against chaos imo Grey knights super charged with Malaal juice.

When was Malaal retconned? Didn't they have a short story on the Sons of Malice in the Heroes off the Space Marines anthology? (released 2009, unless malaal was retconned after that)
or was that a cruel joke by the auther (a Richard Ford if my sources are correct)
Malal is not retconed, iti is ignored as well as the part of the lesser chaos powers. And is ignored due to some copyrights issues. That's why the name is no longer used although its existences is hinted with the Sons of Malice sotry.
i think it could be four things
1) the big E's DNA
2) location/info of the lost legions
3)Some magic way to close/destory the warp
4)taco bell left overs jk
But thats just my guesses on it.
It sure would be Grimdark if the box was empty and only put there to keep everyone fighting against ridiculously terrible odds thinking, "Any minute now they'll open the box and everything will be okay..." Meanwhile the Grand master is in the basement looking into an empty box thinking "We're boned."
The box contains a copy of the Rogue Trader supplement "Slaves to Darkness". Needless to say, Matthew Ward wasn't allowed to look in the box before writing Codex: Grey Knights.
The big GK Secret box holds the truth! The Emperor and Mary had a son, and he was actually what the Holy Grail is. (None of this cup bs). His son eventually had kids and they had kids and so on and so on. Then an inquisitor found the only surviving relative of the big E, Linda Fiorentino, who was later met up with Jay and Silent Bob, but Paul Bettany showed up, and he's a member of a secret organization that makes the Inquisition look like pansies. He doesn't want anyone to know that the Big E had a baby. There were also two Renegade Space marines trying to prove that the E was actually false. And the inquisitor wanted Linda to stop them.

...wait i think i'm getting this mixed up.
WTF?
lol, dogma/da vinci code. Makes me sad that I have to exlain it.
The secret box, contains, a secret string , na lol maybe its a memory of what the emperor wanted the Imperium to be like and it has something to do with the Grey Knights seeing it and showing to the rest of the surviving Imperium when the emperor dies so they fight harder with renewed faith or something until he comes back to save them from a, lot, of chaos.
it contains the address of where the emperor is really at as he is in witness protection. The giant gold fancy pyramid and guards are all just misdirection as he enjoys his new life as Bob the mechanic.
