My friend's basement recently flooded and ruined all of his home-made terrain, rule books, and lost some Necron/IG figures and a few IG Tanks.
My worst was when I came home from work and found my dog chewing on a Crisis Suit (not that bad)
Now I'm interesed in hearing some of your best (or worst) horror/sob stories involving your minis. Share what stories you know if your luck has been good!

The 2nd and 3rd shelves of this collapsing:
I nearly cried. Literally.
Luckily the 2/3 contain SW/Eldar which I was playing a game of at the time. Talk about luck/karma/*god*.
However my 1994 Blood claws which didnt get used took the absolute brunt of it. My metal Ork KKs were on the top shelf. I still have nightmares about that one going.....

I once ran over a spare tire that fell off of the back of someone's truck, and since I had my windows and sunroof open, my Eldar army which was sitting loose in uncovered boxes in the back seat went flying everywhere, mostly getting run over by other drivers or ending up in the culvert below. 8,000 points worth of completely painted Eldar, including an armorcast Revenant scout titan destroyed. By the time the cops arrived, three other people had run over the same tire and I had screamed myself hoarse. I wasn't even that concerned with the car (A twelve year old Ford Escort) and I have not played Eldar since. The owner of the tire that caused all this destruction, including two other vehicles and mine totaled, was never discovered.

Hive Fleet US Customs happened to my BFG ships, I have over 70 imperial navy ships and they were all painted to a good standard and packed in a foam lined box with bubble wrap.
I keep opening the box and making strangled sobbing noises since it arrived late January. There are so many bits snapped off them, so many stems of flying bases snapped inside the bigger ships, so much paint scratched off that I have no idea whether to repaint them from start or try to cover the parts that got uncovered.
It's all a real mess. It was very disheartening after the hours and hours of work.

Spilling a jar of super glue over two squads of ork boyz, it formed a puddle and was left to dry for 6 hours while I was at school. Came back to them stuck t my desk in an ocean of dried glue. luckily they survived after hours of chipping away at them. My dog also enjoys eating SM and GK. He wont eat orks though... maybe they have to many sharp bits. Anyway 5 SM, 2 GK termies, a rhino and countless paintbrushes have died at the hand of a tiny dog known as...

So I get to come home and discover that my cat thought that foam was just awesome to lay upon, with my 1500 points of Dark Eldar within it. Why, oh why, would the cat lay upon all those spikey bits! So smashed the warriors, the ravagers, the reavers, and the raiders and wyches. Snapped off the heads of the Incubi and Archon. They were painted D:

Minis... Not a lot.
I did have some terrain ruined by a small leak of Turpentine onto it, though.
The piece was a rocky mountain fortress, painstakingly carved from foam, sealed with pva, flock and paint.
Pinhole leak in the bottle (one drop per hour) leaked out and dripped onto it from a high shelf. Over a couple of weeks, it ate its way through the inside of the mountain, leaving a painted skin attached to the base.
I've yet to rebuild it.

Family friend's down sydrome child dropped my predator mark 2 on the floor when I was younger. I had warned them that my models were off-limits but the parents didn't care. I told them to replace it, they just shrugged.
I then told them how much it cost, they got their wallets out and paid for a new one from ebay, plus paid shipping thank the gods.
The second incident occured at my old house. The roof collapsed in the basement because of white ants, and the contractor who we hired chucked out everything in the area...including about half my 2500 pts of marines. I was very angry, and presented him with a bill for what he had thrown out. Then my parents took legal action against him, won it as well.

The worst thing to happen to my mini's was probably to my Broadside team leader. I spent a ton of time converting/painting you know the deal. A friend of mine bumps the table... he falls 4 feet and shatters into a thousand pieces. Of course I re-assembled... but.. he was never the same.

Ah, actually a more recent one.
Was doing an apoc game. Had rexie. Guy lent on the castor equipped table, rex smashed, including sword, and cape. Greenstuffed it on, but he's not quite the same.
Someone running instore tripped on my baneblade and broke off the barrel of the baneblade cannon (I even had it UNDER THE TABLE).
some new guy picks up my newly painted basalisk, and ripped of the side of the crew area. I told him to glue it back on as is. He managed to break the whole model. I then told him to order a new one from FW for me. He hasn't shown his face at GW since.

I loaned a buddy a trio of Chaos Rhinos and both of my Vindicators. They were playing on the floor of my apartment when I hear a sickening crunching noise; one of my Rhinos had just been stepped on. I guess my friend's foot failed to penetrate AV11, because the Rhino itself was okay; only the treads, spikes, cupola, and twin-linked bolter snapped off. Two Dogs, 3 Brothers, and my lovely mother encroach upon my guardsmen. Constantly.
I dropped my box full of guard down the stairs(accident of course)and a few guys lost arms or came off the bases, nothing nightmarish.
My friend however, was carrying about 2000 points of tau in his arms (Derp) and tripped down a flight of stairs and landed on most of them, after a cursing run, he solemnly picked up the models, and went home, spent hours re building and re painting some of them. Most of them look like they should be dead, wish they were dead, or in a Picasso painting.

We werent used to all the models, and I lost track of a land raider.... Then found it when I sat down... there's nothing like digging an assault cannon out of your kiester. i still have a scar. I sold the broken pieces to a friend who plays orks. I got a new raider, and a week later.... SAME THING! I had placed it, and forgot to look when I sat down, and CRUNCH!

Ouch, looking at some of these it seems I've really got off lightly. There's a lot of pet related damage too, but fortunately for me my dog isn't allowed upstairs, and that's where all my minis are
Anyway, the worst that has happened to me is accidently knocking a small box of around 40 ork minis, that was sitting on my windowsill, out the window. Fortunately, damage wise, they fell onto the conservatory which is below my window, so it isn't far to fall, and slid down into the gutter. So none sustainaned any serious damage, they just got a little wet. And it did take AGES getting them all out

Set my army out on a table, someone at my house then proceeded to sit on the table, a lot of glue was used that day.
Also, I forgot to do up one of the clips on my case (I know I'm a fail), I had also put my rulebook / codexes in the case as well as my mini's and it was too much for the other catch, and as I was standing up with the strap on my shoulder all of the mini's (fully painted to a decent standard) ended up gushing onto the pavement.

Well, two out of three's not bad.
I have managed to avoid any real catastrophes with my models, so far. The "worst" things to happen are either A.) I accidentally oversprayed a little rattle can white primer onto a bit of my Zuzzy man, leaving a little white line about 2 inches by half an inch, or B.) I dropped the little baby claws on my Necron Tomb Stalker, and one broke and flew off into the warp. I wound up just removing the other as well and calling it a day. They were hideously miscast (but you already knew it was Forge World, ka-thump!) so I didn't feel too bad about it.

I keep my Deathwing army in homemade segmented cardboard carry containers to save on cost (since I only play at a FLGS 15 minutes from my house). Recently, the container carrying all of the terminators, all of the Ravenwing support, and half of my tactical squads broke on one side, release a flood of terminators onto the floor. A bunch of the old metal assault terminators that I got on Ebay lost weapons/bases. About a week ago, I tried to move a cheap bookshelf I have (one of those cheap plywood and veneer ones that only is being held together by it's own weight), causing the two shelves in it with various WIP IG and some old pewter DH stuff to drop out onto the bottom shelf... where all my tyranids are. :(
I just sat there, staring at it for about 5 minutes. I then quietly asked my roommate if he'd seen my circular saw. I later found it and proceeded to cut myself some lengths of 2x4 to put under the shelves as permenent supports. They're installed with 3" long wood screws. It's not pretty, but I'd imagine that sucker would now survive being thrown out a window.
My roommate later told me that he thought I was going to lose it.

One game (hilarious as well as bad) my friend had a stone thrower hit his unit of dark elf warriors. Another guy went to use the tape measurer (heavy metal) and dropped it on the unit of warriors. They REALLY got hit with a stone thrower. The only damaged model was the guy under the hole we were picking that guy up for days (sad part was it was a cool conversion model using dark elves and empire bitz).

Brother build his own warboss from metal bits and loads of green stuff. Painted it and everything, he loved it.
A few days later he spills some coke on it. No biggie; a quick wash and it will be good as new. Gets a cup of water and gives it a quick dunk. As soon as it hit the water the super glue that was holding everything together fail and the whole model call to pieces. Everything single thing became unstuck. He never put it back together after that.

Probably the worst thing that has hyappened to me was flying bases and the annoying little stalks. My battlesuit one broke when a friend dropeed it. fixed it, broke, fixed it again, in the end I just remodelled him.
The second thing I did myself. I wanted an effective way of puting in and taking out my flying base for my devilfish. So i cut the top off and glued a small sewing thing which can screw into another, used for jewelry, of course the glue never worked and that was that ruined. In the end I had to drill out a hole and stick in a another flying stalk. Ever since my devilfish leanss slightly.
Neither of these even rates compared to some of these stories. Might help that I only have about 750 points.

Whil i agree that bad painting skills do ruin an army I have to disagree with the thinned paint bit. Usually wiping it off the rim is enough for me to get a decent look(but my armies arnt gonna be GD winners lol)
back on topic though, worst thing?? Hmm lets see, probly my Dreadnought(Ironclad converted for CSM) picking a fight with my Daemon Prince during the match.
On the way home they decided to go at it again.... Dreadnought lost, his legs had came apart and some still stuck to the foot. Safe to say that i need to not leave them in unpadded boxs.

Well, this isn't quite as bad as some of the other ones here, but one time while I was setting up for a game I set my large Citadel case on a stool, because there was no more room left on the table we set aside for our cases, intending to move it once I had finished. Then, when I was halfway done setting up, one of my friends bumped into my case, spilling 85% of the models left in it. I still played, even though most of the models were broken, then spent a couple hours afterwards re-gluing them. The worst part, however, is that this same thing happened again a couple weeks later. I never learn

I once played a game on a weird A-frame type table. It was kinda unstable, but only if you put a gak ton of weight in one place. We were told to NOT lean on the table.
About an hour into the game, I forget and lean on the table, catapulting some poor guys orks across the room where they explode against the wall.
£300 later, I had made my apology.

My 24 year step brother spray painting 100+ orks that I just finshed painting. My step family thought it wasn't a big deal cause they were just toys to them. That was the last straw out of all the crap they pull on me. So I left.

Arghh I made a topic about this today after accidentally Blasting my newly painted BA captain with my airbrush. I should really have posted it in this 'topic-that-already-existed'...
I think the worst single incident to befall my miniatures was a few years ago. I had pretty much every miniature I owned out on the floor so I could count and organise them. All neatly lined up into squads and mobs etc...
Anyway I ran out of space so I decided to move the TV and the table it was on into another room. I unplugged the TV and lifted it off the table and started to carry it away. I'm really not sure what happened next as the first I knew of it was when the TV was very nearly ripped out of my hands by the cord, and out of the corner of my eye I see the table (quite a tall round, table with 3 legs) basically take flight, do a somersault and then land top facing down on my miniatures like a gigantic wooden blast template.
I just remember tuning cold when I saw what had happened. I had my scratch built 40k scale Squat Land Train in the middle. That thing was completely destroyed, but fortunately it was quite tall so it probably saved most of the stuff around it. A lot of other stuff got broken but most of it ended up being quite fixable in the end, I guess I was lucky in the sense that it could have been a lot worse.
I remember a friend of mine once had a tin of varnish spill in the back of a van when he was moving house which ended up leaking all over his plastic miniatures and turned them to goo.

I was working on a unit of Chaos Marauders once. For some reason, I got really, really upset at something, and threw one of my sneakers down our hallway. Beeline towards my painting desk. Where the sneaker promptly *BOUNCED* and took out the entire unit. Marauder bits *everywhere*. That was the last time I ever tried to start a WHFB Chaos army.

I left my army transport in the car for an extended amount of time warping all my sword and gun ends.

I was at a tournament run in a very small room. There was so little room between the rows of tables, you couldn't stand back to back with the guy behind you, you had to be adjacent. Well the guy playing on the table behind me was a rather large gentlemen, and he really didn't fit in such a space. I was playing imperial guard, and my trusty, beloved, ancient basalisk I have used for over a decade was deployed right at the board edge. As I finish deploying I turn to my right to see the large gentlemen bend over to reach something, and his posterior lands on, and envelopes my basalisk. It was like it happened in slow motion, I could only watch in horror as "bassie" was consumed by the dark moon. The guy clearly realized something was awry because he straightened back up. As he did so, my tank was sucked INTO the...canyon and snatched up off the table. It hung there, half out of this guys ass for a moment, before falling to the floor and breaking. There were no words to express my horror.

Wow, just wow. The amount of horror those poor guardsmen had to go through. I think it would be a lot like going through the eye of terror!
... eye of terror indeed....

Every single game I lose, my Techmarine gets his arm knocked off. It's kind of a running joke now. Someone asks me "how's your game going" and I reply "well, techmarine's still got his arm, so pretty good so far.

Mine is when an ex-girlfriend stole some of my deathworld veterans and ran them over with a lawn mower. But that was the way of the Psycho ex.It just made me mad because they were conversions from necromunda heavy weapons.I just thought they looked more apporiate with more portable HW than the old pulled behind a vehicle ones.At least i found a few parts and eventually got rid of the crazy lady.

Was basecoating an IP of IG, a chimera and 10 roughriders (riders, horses, and lances not glued). Beautiful day. Sprayed the roughriders first moved the box to a patio table. Started on the rest, HUGE gust of wind, I turn to the freshly painted dudes and watch them fly off the table in to my yard. Then I had to scrub dirt out of paint and re-spray.

One of my SM Dreads fell off a higher shelf and landed on about four Genestealers completely obliterating them. I was too busy laughing to really be that bothered.
Even in death, the alien will be vanquished etc etc
