Friggin interwebz have been down the last week so in response to the forum suggestion thread we can see how this one goes!
Going to start with one I saw recently (rewatch by the way).
Point Break.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102685/ Two detectives investigate a series of bank robberies in which one (Reeves/Utah) has to go undercover (as a surfer!) to find out the potential suspects.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Everything about it is solid. The score, the setting, the premise (which if you break it down is sort of silly). I dont like Reeves overall as an actor but he pulls this one off well. Added to this is a solid cast, of which, Patrick Swayze is by far and away the standout in it as Bodhi.
I'd go so far as to say one of my favourite characters ever - driven, empathetic, "cool", enigmatic and interesting.
The pace of the film is great, never bores you, the plot is basic but has a nice twist when Utah gets in too deep, some of the surf scenes are excellent (and this from a guy who hates surfing), as mentioned the score is brilliant and an arguably iconic end sequence as Bodhi "heads off".
007 Quantum of Solice today. I really dig the Daniel Craig Bond personally. The others are usually pretty good, but are so OTT it can make you like it less. The Daniel Craig Bond seems to be a bit more realistic....compared to the others that is.
Cant get Downfall anywhere Smillie over here, video stores, rentals, even "certain websites" dont seem to have it.
I'd love to see it, however. Good call.
Just finally saw Sucker Punch. Mostly a giant music video, but a darn cool one. 6/10 as a film, or 8/10 as just a big Summer movie.
Right in the middle of watching the documentary Body of War, about Tomas Young, the Iraq vet, and the aftermath of the war for him. Good stuff. The scene of him watching Bush joking about finding no WMDs at the Correspondents' dinner was pretty powerful. The bits showing the speeches leading up to the war authorization were surprisingly potent, for me, too. Byrd was surprisingly good in opposition. 8/10, maybe 9/10.
Thor ( i actually liked this , that or due to Fantastic 4 is so awful that any other comic to movie adaptations is better xD )
Battle L.A biggest movie disappointment i guess , the commercial and trailers looks so good.
14 Blades. First half of movie was the best movie i 've seen , which quickly turned to wtf as if some Korean Drama writer took over the 2nd half of the movie.
Just saw Battle Los Angles, despite what meny have said I thought it was a good movie, ok not the best written, but as far as action movies go I thought it was one of the better ones. Also just saw Tron, all I can say is oooooooh pritty. Very nice.
Saw 'Arthur' at the cinema the other day. I haven't seen the original, but i know its mean't to be quite good, and the re-make hasn't been getting very good reviews... But i really enjoyed it, Russell Brand is really funny. The story line is quite nice, and overall a really enjoyable film. (Although if you don't like Russell Brand, its probably not going to please you....)
Memento 9/10
After suffering short term memory loss during his wifes murder a man tries to find the killer using clues which he tatoos on his body.
If you havent seen this I strongly recommend it.
-1 for being a touch too long but a really cerebral film. Gets you thinking on several levels and the way the story is told is refreshing and interesting.
Really liked Guy Pearse in it, his narrative is great.
Watched Shutter Island over the weekend.
Hmmm 6/10. Enjoyed the first half much more than the second. Didnt really see the "twist" coming but when it did I was underwhelmed.
Excellent setting though and atmosphere. DiCaprio has definetly grown on me over the years as an actor.
Super8. Loved it. Now going to desperately attempt to avoid most other summer movies this summer.

The Wife guessed the ending like 30 minutes in. She can't watch mysteries she always figures them out quickly. But we both liked it.

I utterly utterly love Memento.
I've seen two recently, so I'll do them both.
Kung Fu Panda 2: 9/10
A really fun ride through, with actually good humour, amazing graphics and fight choreography, and an awesome villain and heroes.
-1 for a slightly cliche plot, but otherwise really really good.
The Prestige: 7/10
Good film that keeps you guessing and wondering, with great acting and chemistry between the two leads, but
Spoiler:
-3 for the rather lame explanation for the Transported Man with Tesla's machine.
Saw Limitless yesterday. It's possibly one of my favourite thriller movies and I strongly recommend it. Great plot twists and very unexpected ending. Bradly Cooper fits the role perfectly.
Been on a bit of a "B-Movie" rip lately, so the last two films I've watched were " The Incredible Melting Man." and "Scream Blacula Scream"...
Both films are positively awful and amazingly entertaining.
I had Knowing on the TV while I was working on some extra armor for rhinos last night. I wasn't paying too much attention, but the few times I did I wasn't very impressed.
Just bought and watched Shutter Island, bloody good film, but yeah i worked out the 'twist' in about 5 minutes, its not anything you dont see coming im afraid.
Couple of things did catch me out:
Spoiler:
1)Sheehan being Chuck,
2)that Andrew killed Dolores (dunno why this surprised me )
And
Spoiler:
Was it just me, or does he go willingly at the end?
.. nice enough, good cast and it tottled along well enough. Nowhere near as funny as Shaun or Hot Fuzz though. Few genuine giggles in it however.
That's a shame - I was going to watch it at some point seeing as they have been plugging the hell out of it on Sky movies but I guess I shall wait for the regular Sky/Terrestrial channels to show it...
It strikes me as exactly the sort of DVD that will be very cheap in HMV/wherever in a very short time. Worth picking up for that reduced amount, but not worth full price IMO.
It's not bad per se, I'll happily watch it again, but it's not great either. Too many knob jokes and some of the characters are oddly unsympathetic compared to previous efforts. Almost a bit lazy in parts it struck me.
.. does make San Diego Comic Con look even more awesome.
IIRC he uses his partners real name before he dies so the twist is that he does become sane but then just chooses to be operated on
Spoiler:
He doesnt use his name, but he does make a few odd comments and looks that kind of give it away (going with the handlers before being asked for example struck me as odd if he didnt know what was happening)
We just recently became NetFlix junkies. And the other night I watched a movie called Ink. Pretty trippy, its basically a battle of good vs. evil. The good guys aare the ones that bring good dreams to people, and the incubi bring nightmares and such. This weird dude named Ink steals a little girls soul and the movie is about him trying to get her soul to the incubi so he can become one of them, and the good guys are trying to get her soul back and fight off the incubi. Totally watchable, infact its one of those movies where the more you think on it, the more you like about it.
[spoiler]He just didn't want to live with what he did. He shos it by asking his doc something like, "Is it better to die a good man, or live as a monster?". He would rather keep his false persona of being a good guy and "die" via lobotomy, than live with the reality of what he did.[spoiler]
Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry to screw up the spoiler, I never tired it before.
Ink sounds pretty cool, I'll have to check that out.
Recently watched In Bruges again. It starts out pretty slow and takes its sweet time through most of the rest, but it's a pretty good British-gangster black comedy.
I just watched The Experiment last night. It was pretty good, makes you think a little bit. I know the original was Das Experiment done in germany but it's a dvd only thing on netflix and my roomate is the one with the subscription.
Just finished watching Paul and the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Paul - fantastic, I am a big Pegg and Frost fan, although I know its not quite as funny as the rest of their stuff it was done for a bit more of a mass market so I am willing to allow. Loved the sci fi references all the way through it.
Benjamin Button - I really enjoyed it, lovely story told beautifully, mostly predicable but executed well.
Last film I saw at the cinema was Pirates of the Carribean 4, which was incredibly dissapointing. The story line was lazy and even the action sequences seemed a little dull. I really hope they end the franchise with that one.
DVD wise, Swordfish which was just as awesome as I remember.
I saw Super 8 the other night. It was really good, I'd recommend it.
I also saw Thor a few weeks ago, and it was pretty good too, but I feel like it may have been done mostly to introduce the character to a wider audience, since they're making the Avengers movie next year.
...Forced to watch if or I wasn't getting tea. Though it isn't all that bad, it is pretty good at its satire of crime fiction, if the plot goes knowhere...though it isn't supposed to is it?
I just watched Braveheart last night on Channel 4.
Some people find it fantastic some people find it crap, I myself am indifferent. Id give it 7/10 because while good, it had Mel Gibson playing a Scot(should have been an actual Scot, though he does it well lol) and there is very little in the way of it being historically accurate.

Historically accurate? Hey, how many people died in that film eh? That guy that took the hammer to the noggin? You KNOW that happened for real somewhere. Totally accurate. Id write a history paper on the movie
Had me in stitches enough to overpower the cringe-worthy scenes...
Just a warning, there is more than decent level of penis in this movie.
Saw this last week. It's a lot more "adult" than the first one but I think it had to be or it would have disappointed people. Alan's comments at the funeral are the highlights of both movies.
Saw Green Lantern on Sunday. Wasn't as bad as I expected.
It started out good but I didn't get a sense of threat from Parralax. It would have been greatly improved if there were more small scale enemies for him to fight. There was very little action aside from his fight with Hector as there wasn't much action between Hal and Parrallax.
Knox wrote:Saw Super 8 on Saturday. Didn't do much the alien didn't look scary at all. Is it wrong when a alien who has killed many looks kind of cute.
Watched "Last Night" for the first time in a few years...its definately not gotten any less crazier. Reminds me of that Billy Connolly joke about what you would do if you had a minute to live....
Watched Senna last week absolutely brilliant film really brings F1 alive from the 80's and all that went on around him. His rivalry with prost and the FIA president at the time really interesting stuff, sportsmanship and lack of it. The end section is really enlightening about the events around his death and quite moving as well.
Flashman wrote:The Rite starring Anthony Hopkins because any film starring Anthony Hopkins can't be that bad.
It was indeed not that bad and is worth watching for the moment when Hopkins answers his mobile mid exorcism.
2 stars out 5.
I thought it was pretty decent as well. I think I liked it more, simply because lately "exorcism" movies have been REAL gakky. Im talking gak recorded and put on DVD. So since this had some good parts and didnt make me say out loud "Oh come the feth on REALLY?!" I liked it more then I probably should have
ZOMBIEMANIA - Just watched that today (followed by Hellraiser 2, dear lord that wasnt very good) but it was a pretty good zombie documentary. So check it out if your into that kindda stuff
Just saw Green Lantern. It wasn't as bad as the reviews have made it out to be, but it wasn't really good either. A lot of it was fairly nonsensical, and the end seemed pretty lame after how badass they made the main villain out to be.
Limitless. 6.5/10
Guy becomes super smart using a new drug and gets into various forms of trouble.
Quite enjoyable actually.
Knocking off points for several plots holes and a slightly rushed ending but overall worth a watch.
Frontieres is a good french movie about these guys who stay in a hostel in the countryside on their way to amsterdam. The hostel is ran by a cult-like family of cannibals.
As for OP's question, I just watched resident evil afterlife, how is that guy still allowed to make movies that are based on games, but are nothing similar to them?
Its a french (I think?) film. I have to say, I really liked it. Pretty good zombie flick if you asked me.
Yeah, It's French, watched it for the second time on netflix last week.
Started pretty strong, but sort of fizzled for me near the end...still worth a look if you enjoy the genre.
Just watched "The Green Hornet". It could have been better. Especially if Seth Rogen wasn't in it. I really don't like his style of comedy, and they should have made the green hornet more of a "Joe Friday" (dragnet) kind of guy, like the original.
Of course, seeing as how Seth Rogen was credited with exec. producer and a whole bunch of other jobs, he probably decided to cast himself.
A knights tale
quality film, my parents went to see it when it first came out and decided to educate myself and my sis in good films, so we reluctantly agreed on the condition that we got to choose the next film(dr strangelove). a knights tale is just quality start to finish
A Town Called Panic. What you get when you cross animation with Monty Python. The only word to describe is silly, but being into silly humour, especially crossbows that fire unlimited numbers of swordfish, it was damn enjoyable. 9/10
Shaolin Soccer. Budget Taiwanese movie about a group of under-dog football players, each with his own martial arts power, making them a great team again. Another silly movie, lost in translation quite a lot but definitely a good lads night movie. 8/10
Troll 2. God it deserves the hate. Why anyone thought it was a good idea should give up. That said, another lads night movie, with lots of laughs due to sheer rediculousness. Girls? Hahahah. 4/10 300. Pure action, loved it, we all cheered when the most famous line was said. Divided opinion on whether it was truly good or not, I thought it was well made, different Sin City style with some brilliant action in it. 8/10
District 9. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. The first half is just amazing. Sure, the second half was a little bit too actiony, but the ending was great. One of the few films where you can sympathize with the non-human protagonist over the human one. 9/10
Just saw Battle Los Angeles the other night. Really liked it, but I had low expectations thinking it was gonna be a cheesy lamefest but there was lots of action and the effects were great. Story was basic but still good enough to keep you interested. Felt more like a war movie than a sci fi movie, like the beginning of saving private ryan, but for 2 hours.

I just saw Battle Los Angeles as well, and I agree with you...not a "great" movie, but much better than I expected it to be.
Most recently watched film would Be "Colin", a very low budget zombie film ( big surprise there huh...) that is amazingly well done.
The movie, as I said, was obviously shot on a shoe string budget, and tells the tale of a young man in London during a zombie outbreak.
As the film opens, he (Colin) has been bitten, and the film follows his activites as he becomes one of the walking dead and joins the roaming hordes of zombies outside...
The film itself is not much in the way of "Boom!Bang!POW!" action ( though there are several "fight scenes") dealing much more with "Life" as a zombie..
It's pretty dark and gritty, but has some funny moments ( although dark) and was quite interesting as a zombie film from the zombies POV....
If you enjoy the genre I highly recommend giving this film a go.
Lost Horizon, the 2001 remastered version with 24 minutes of restored footage that were cut during WW2 because of the pacifist message.
For seven minutes of the running time they have the whole soundtrack but the vision has been totally lost, so they filled in with stills and production photos in several scenes.
