Greetings, fellow Dakkites.
It's been far too long.
After an extremely busy period of school, work, and moving, I've finally had time to get working on my Iron Hands army again.
Below are some painted models which you might remember from my original WIP thread.
Iron-Commander Vaarkul
(counts as Vulkan He'Stan)
Iron Father Theodosius
(master of the forge with servo harness, thunder hammer, combimelta)
Epistolary Phoebus
Sternguard Veterans
(sergeant with power fist, combimelta, 4 combimeltas)
I also have three dreadnoughts and two tactical squads fully painted. I'll get them posted up as soon as my camera recharges.
Also, for more views of the miniatures above, check out my hobby site:

Raen wrote:also what model did you use for Iron-Commander Vaarkul ?

Well that's a tough question to answer.
Vaarkul is made out of the legs of a terminator, the torso of a marine, the arms of chaos space marines, the head of some terminator/marine sergeant.
His backpack is just a space marine packback with some bits, gears, guitar wire, skull bits, wrist watch pieces, and defiler cc wpn tentacles.
His weapon is a banner pole, an IG flamer, a GK force halberd, and a gear.
His shield is the cupola cover of a rhino and some metal bits.
His "loin cloth" is a bunch of guitar wire, electric wire, and gear bits.
Everything else is lots and lots of plastic card, some green stuff, way too much guitar wire, and some thin metal wire.
Raen wrote:i love them!! one thing is a bit iffy though... the legs on the veterans look to chunky and boxy... other than that im green with envy
Some people aren't huge on the bionic legs, but that's cool with me. :-D I wanted these guys to be venerable in their own right with extensive bionics. I don't think any of them even have their original limbs.

Got some more pictures taken.
These are my three dreadnoughts, Agaphon, Damril, and Kalos.
Dreadnought Agaphon
Agaphon is the most level-headed of the dreadnoughts, often providing fire support.
Dreadnought Damril
Damril is incredibly laconic and single-purposed. Once he finds a target, Damril wades into enemy fire without a second thought.
Dreadnought Kalos
Kalos is renowned for his ferocity and lust for combat.
Kalos can be found in the most vicious combats, thrashing foes with his power flail.
Once again, you can view more pictures of these dreadnoughts on my hobby site: http://nicholaskay.com/ironfather/gallery.ironhands.html

I haven't had any problems yet, then again all my dreadnoughts have the exact same armament.

Those are the FW vehicle bits for Iron Hands- I did also use bratch etchings elsewhere, though.

Ya there are two normal dreads and one AOBR dread. I had one fresh dread, one fresh AOBR dread, and one old cruddy dread.
I made sure to swap the legs and arms as much as possible to keep a consistent look between all the dreads- I think the AOBR body has one cruddy dread arm and one new dread arm...

-4 skimmers (just their crew/weapons)
-2 razorbacks/rhinos + weapons
I also have a couple things left to build/convert should I choose to (which I probably will)
- 1 Venerable dreadnought
- 1 LR Crusader/Redeemer
- 2 lascannon marines
- 2 missile launcher marines

This makes me sad! There is way too little representation of the 10th legion out there... people tend to forget they are one the 20 first founding chapters
CrimsonPrime wrote:Just wondering, any tips for the chapter icon shoulder pads? I suck at scratch making the symbol many many attempts that look terrible. How would you suggest I get nice ones without having to pay the obscene price GW Australia wants for the Iron Hands kit ($69)?
Yeesh. See if you can get your hands on a GW bit and make a green stuff mold... also I know some 3rd party studios (chapterhouse, I believe) makes their own knock-offs. I'm not a big fan of their pads, but it could be a solution to your problem.
All I did was make one pad with a standard SM shoulder pad and some green stuff. Once cured, I put some petroleum jelly over it and pressed a ball of green stuff over the icon (careful to avoid the rim of the pad). After that cured, I pulled the two apart and voila! Custom green stuff stamp.

I find that reaction a lot, people either or them. I actually rarely/never use my sternguard as a unit, instead spreading them throughout my army as sergeants with combimeltas.
I would like to spread that conversion type through the rest of the army, too, but found that the custom built legs end up being 'true scale,' and look weird on random tac marines (who's the big guy?).

Absolutely SICK army! You've done a fantastic job of converting each marine and vehicle into a unique personality. Great job on the weathering, I LOVE to see battle-scarred, gritty and dirty looking marines.
Your army looks like a techno-gothic nightmare. The skull headed flying baby thing is creepy. Love the dreadnoughts especially the riflemen.
I would have added dozer blades or siege shields to the vindicators for aesthetic reasons, and some of the bionic legs look too stick like, but other than that this is one hell of an army.

So, let's take a look at which chapters are playable (come with their own character):

X: Iron Hands: Nothing.

This sums my Opinion up entirely, I think given GW's Habit of every other Codex Release being a Marine Codex, we may just get it.
I would like to see the Entire Force Structure turned on it's head, so you could take Dreads as Troops for example and Techmarines as Veteran Sgt's. Plus teminator Armour all over the place, so "Termie Techmarines with a Heavy Weapon Harness/Conversion Beam?" It would give Techmarines a 5+ Inv. Equally, Iron Fathers and Libby's only as HQ's, no 1st Company and lots of options for Vehicles and free upgrades, free extra Armour? or Locator Beacons fitted as standard to every vehicle, allowing Deepstrikes to be accurate, but no Termie Squads to even it out. Maybe, all vehicles get an Immobilised repair rule, on a roll of 6 on a D6. For gods Sake, all BA Tanks are FAST!!!
EDIT - Ooooh, how about, get this....Tech Guard Allies....Leman Russ's and IG options as TechGuard Allies?

Amazing stuff alright.
What did you use for the plugs on the ends of the cables that are hanging free on some of the models?

Good question, those are just little watch bits.
Put your cursor at the 1" mark on the ruler, now move it straight up. The first little bit you hit is what I used.

OMG I have just found an Alpha Legionnaire hiding within the IRON HANDS. Turns out there was a typo in the assignments pool, he's supposed to be infiltrating the Iron Warriors. Good Spot or otherwise we would have had this scum, living amongst us.
He has been.....administratively dealt with.
More where he came from

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if watch parts had bits like that. It's amazing that such small cogs and the like are made. It's nothing new of course but it's always fascinating seeing what we as a species are capable of. Congratulations on getting your army on the GW site too.
