Hello gentlemen. I was planning to purchase a FW CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT that just came out a month ago but I was thinking for Apoc games or even for normal games...

What is even worth putting in it? Imperial Guard doesn't have any assault troops apart from Rough Riders who obviously cannot ride in it.

Ogryns? Any other suggestions?

You could put a power blob in your CRASSUS ARMOURED TRANSPORT

or just a ton of plasma vets for triple pop and drop

Isn't the crassus a super heavy? In that case I think it's highly unlikely you're going to be able to play it in a normal game, superheavies tend to skew the balance quite a lot afaik.

If he really wants to use his CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT I'm sure his opponent will let him

I'm fine with just using it for Apocalypse but it seems like its a huge waste because IG do not get any TEQs so whats the point of a SH land raider?

For fluff purposes? What else would a platoon of Guardsmen be transported in, other than a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT.

Well I guess Ogryns would love a sturdy transport as well, but I guess the point is mostly that it can transport a 30 man unit... And it can also transport 2 cyclops thingies, whatever they are.

I believe it can hold ten rough riders as it is a super heavy transport.

It might also be good with CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT might also be good with penal legionaires, delivered as a suicide unit. Actually, my vote for the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT has changed to also a large blob of plasma-wielding Guardsmen. However, I'd still suggest running the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT alongside Leman Russ Demolishers and maybe a Super-heavy to provide target priority issues and quite possibly allow your CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT to arrive intact and with the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSUALT TRANSPORT's cargo ready to melt things.

I wouldn't get a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT because I don't play Imperial Guard, and so simply have no use for it. That being said, as I posted on the thread where the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT was first announced by FW, the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is an absolutely knockout model. I really like it, and I hope you take lots of WIP pics and put them on the gallery here as you build it.

On a more serious note, I think that the best thing to put in a crassus is a normal guard blob. 20 men and a commissar with a pcs can fit in nicely. The thing about rough riders and ogryns is that they can just as easily take chimeras or just run behind the crassus. This vehicle, I forget what it is called, is one of the only one that can transport combined infantry squad. The alternative shadowsword variants are more expensive in points and have a huge target on them.

It is a cute CAAT for sure...

In all seriousness though, it isn't really an assault vehicle, it's basically an armoured behemoth supposed to carry loads of troops to the battle, drop them off, let them walk a little way, and pop back for the next load.

If the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT had some fire points, I'd put some troop squads in it with heavy weapons and camp on an objective. But it doesn't.

Loading it with assault troops is a fair idea, but it isn't an assault vehicle. It has some survivability with 2 structure points, so you could keep turndling your CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT forward and then jumping out with guys I guess.

I dunno. I think LunaHound had the best idea in converting the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT into a super battle wagon for an ork army.

Put 5 in, and you have a mobile remote control bomb layer!

You can only put 2 Cyclops Demolitions Vehicles in it so

2 Cyclopes Demolition Vehicles + Yarrick with 9 Ogryn.

The Power blob doesn't work well because you'd need 31 slots for 30 infantry + commissar and blobs of 20 are too small.

You've got it wrong, the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT isn't a transport for assault troops, its a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT. It drives up to the enemy, and smacks them. Hard. The CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT does the assaulting.

The problem is, you can't assault out of the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT so it doesn't help putting a big squad of Ogryns or a power blob, or a big Squad of Rough Riders in the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT. And since the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT has no fire points, you can't use it as an oversized mobile fire base for a crap ton of heavy weapons teams.

To be honest, in terms of rules, I'd rather take a Stormlord. At least the Stormlord can have a crap ton of infantry shooting out the back.

The best use for a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT I can see is putting a cheap squad of infantry in it, then parking it on an objective. The main reason for using a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is probably because since it's a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT it is freaking awesome.

One use I can see is loading your CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT with three Veteran squads with meltas, driving up next to a Titan or something, then dropping them all off.

9 melta shots should be able to take down most things, and even put the hurt on the big boys.

They are pretty cheap and can cause some damage as well as being scoring.

You can have multiple units inside superheavies per the superheavy rules. So, the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT would allow you to put multiple vet squads in it, yes.

I don't think any single non-vehicle unit could survive those three vet squads' flamer/shotguns then charge. I mean three heavy flamers, six flamers, 42 shotgun shots, and then 9 pfist attacks hidden within plenty of bodies...

Hell they could even assault multiple separate units, making it a true assault transport.


Of course, if Celestians had BP+CCW I'd choose three of those squads instead.

A good use would be:

1. Load your CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT up with long range guns and park on an objective with 2 troops choices inside (in case it does get popped, you still have some survivors).

2. Load up on armor popping vets with meltaguns and drive towards the other guys super heavies.

3. Load up on vets with flamers and go squat some bugs, orks, other blob squads that are camping on an objective.

I was thinking:
Quad flamers with 30 Penal Legionaires inside.
My other idea was:
Quad Lascannon with 30 Veterans with full plasma load out and possibly carapace armour.

Hrm. Three repentia squads? I mean it is apoc anyway, so they aren't restricted from going into the units.

Mind you they'd still suck, and suck hard, but they'd at least be worth SOMETHING.

5 special weapons squads with flamers coming out a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT would be quite good, 15 flame templates...

I still think the 5 SWS with demo charges (sub some out for goliaths AKA cyclops demo vehicles) and then you have an epic unstoppable suicide unit.

Scream Banzai as you drop 15 S8 AP2 templates for best results.

They won't be running...

I have started to use it and have never been unhappy about the results. true, havent always used the demo charge, but those melta bombs are great. its funny to see the space wolf/blood angel/CSM player almost poop themselves when they see 10 guardsman assault their landraider.

So i have a Q about the demo charge idea.... they're BS 3 sadly, that means a lot of demo charges will miss right? (when you throw em at your enemy, poor bastards)

But, if you want to stick them on your own transport, dont you still have to "throw" them? Wont that miss a bit too???

It just seems weird you have to "aim" with these things, you miss, and nothing happens... Just seems like you'd chuck it and press the button on the detonator and watch the body parts fly.... how does this work? Im confused on how this could be used....

If you have BS3 you still have to throw it but when it scatters you only subtract 3 from the dice. That's about it actually...

It scatters just as normal, however since it's a 5" blast with a 6" range, that scatter can be deadly.

Just had delivery of my CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT. It is a sweet kit. Only problem I'd say is you only get Heavy Bolter options for the sponsons. Would have been nice to have the autocannon and heavy flamer options as well. Inside is nicely detailed - loving the striplights across the roof!

To be honest, you can't really take the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT anywhere safely. It will constantly be the target of obbital bombaerdlements. Even ASSAULT TRANSPORTs like the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT need to hide behind cover, like perhaps space corridors and industrial towers. But only a tactical genius would think of something like that.

How much transports would a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT transport if a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT could transport transports?
