Aside from all of the BS of the past week, how about some good news in your neck of the woods as far as gaming is going?

This week, I gave some extra terraign to the local club, painted up Cpt. Mcbride for Cutlass, and read the rulebook. I'm finishing off a squad of Dark Angels, a mob of boyz, and finishing off painting the villian set from Pulp City. Aside from getting ready to move, I'm trying to shore up some last minute projects, and get my stuff packed up for the move.

General news is good as well, but basicly put this up there, because every time I'm seeing more and more of GW's BS, I'm really starting to dread reading some of the posts, and seeing some of the really carzy !@#$ that is coming out of left field from of all things, a gaming compnay.

I'm a curmudgion, but !@#$ me running, we're taking a beating like a government mule...


Lets hear your good stories, or something other then !@#$ you GW.

I purchased the Malifaux rulebook, as well as two boxes of miniatures. Got one for a friend and one for myself. Decided to invest a little of my mini-money into another game. I'm excited to get started.

I was able to get a hold on some sought after pieces. I just have to pick them up next weekend.

Got started on putting together my Malifaux stuff which I'm really digging (still haven't read through the rulebook though).

I found out that I didn't paint my riders to their bikes so painting certain details should be easier.

I save a but load of money on car insurance for my CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT. (yes... I went there)

I haven't painted a single mini in over 3 months.

But I hope to get back to it soon.

I'm giving KoW a try for the first time this Wednesday and my bro has given me a load of RTB01's to strip and repaint.

So yeah, none too shabby really.

It also means that I now don't have to dirty my hands with buying GW stuff!!

My FLGS has rearanged their floor to make more space for tables.

I also got around to starting a P&M blog.

My group started up WHFB again, so I'm in the middle of painting through IoB, some Orcs, and other fun mess.

Prepping up some Dwarfs for a tournament, and trying to get my hands on some PP Searforge =p

I'm excited to be painting my WoC project that I got in a trade with MDS, and I'm plotting Dragon Ogre conversions.
Depending on my financial situation in the next couple of months I'm going to get some mantic skeletons and expand a bit into historicals I think.

Also been eyeing the WGF greatcoats but I want some post apocalyptic mutants to go with them.

Sure, all the GW stuff is kinda crappy. I don't want higher prices, I don't like their business practices... but in the end how important is it, really?? I care more that my property taxes went up., That my insurance on 2 cars went up. That gas prices went up. That costs for cell phones and satellite are going up. That... well... everything ACTUALLY IMPORTANT is getting more expensive. GW is just falling in line with the rest of this expensive world.

My good news? I am continuing to paint and playing lots of fun games lately! That's all that is important in this hobby.

Well I finally beat a Space Marine army with my Orks.
I've been playing for 15 months and while I've beat Marines using Space Wolves, that really didn't count. I want to win with my Orks. So in a Combat Patrol games this week at the games club I finally beat Chaos Space Marines (Plague Marines). Yay! Yeah I lost a couple of game to other armies, I don't care, I beat Chaos Space Marines!

On the modelling front I've just started painting some old Harlequin Doctor Who minis. They're not that bad actually for old figures.

I realised that I have enough parts to complete my Space Wolves foot slogging army - I'm sticking at one crappy Land raider for my WG termies - I ain't buying any more Rhinos or 'backs. But I have discovered a source of use containers that with a bit of converting will make useable Drop Pods!

I also have plenty of Valhallans and Mordians to paint up for a small veteran army I am working on - Troops supporting Leman Russ tank advances. It's fluffy and I don't care if the meta takes it to the cleaners

Once these projects are complete I can get onto finishing my Ironclad Steam tank(ette) and tweak afew Steam tank conversions I have worked on for GASLIGHT rules.

I am also play testing a new skirmish ruleset, its proper do or die stuff with games complete in about an hour so I am happy.

Oh, I am also dipping my toe in the water with Cutlass stuff, I have some Orc and Undead pirates on order, just because they look cool!

hmm good news is subjective a bit but, PP announced they are delaying their august releases and spending the month to catch up with their supply shortage. This is good for me as it gives my wallet a rest from the barrage of new releases.
There was also a leaked release schedule for Anima Tactics posted to their forums, as well as painted photos of their largest model so far. This is welcome since the line was put on hold 3 months for the Hell Dorado release.

My store wasn't visited by the TFK* and his persistent high pitched voice when the 40k campaign here reached its epic climax apoc event.

It was a good day to get my brother back into wargaming it was.

I have a few nice ideas on how to convert a Talos into a Nurgle model, though I'm not sure to what end.

I dropped 180$ on Hordes - Legion of Everblight, to get caught up on my army that I haven't updated in over a year earlier in the week.

I also dropped 160$ on two Hardcover Rules books and two starter sets for Infinity - HaqqIslam and Yu Jing, and waiting to get them in the mail.

Today I got back from spending 90$ at Michaels for materials to make a table top scenery for Infinity. Went to Toys R Us and spent 54$ on items to use as scenery for Infinity. I also ordered 63$ in paper model scenery .PDFs from WorldWorks Games for Infinity.

That is almost 550 bucks that GW pissed away by pissing on me.

If I LOVE the company I am buying from, I have no problem dropping cash for their product regardless of price. I know when I play Hordes/Infinity almost anywhere, everyone is playing by the same, tight rules. I don't have to worry about if I can use my Reavers how I want to when I go to various places. It really pisses me off knowing that I paid 180$ on Reavers, only to not be able to play them "one way" because the rules are written and proof read by idiots.

I am glad I never got in Tyranids, that is all I can say.

Basically, I am paying for peace of mind. And that makes me happy and brings great good news to my black, broken heart.

I wish there was some good, for me anyway :/. EXAMS EXAMS EXAMS! but i do get to play my first tabletop game on sunday, just hope all of the other ~@!% dont mess it up, OH the joys of life!

Umm, I have Tuesday off for the first time in forever, so I may be able to get a game in!

Bought the mercenaries book for PP, working on some tankbuster conversions out of plastic I have lying around instead of the metals, made a trade or two on bartertown, and just looking for deals that dont involve GW.

Agreed that GW is not important, in the grand scheme of things. However, it's almost vital to have a hobby that you can escape into for a few hours a week. For me, it's important. I have a fairly high pressure job ( I'm a nurse in A&E) and for me to be able to escape from all the blood and gak that I see on a regular basis is pretty fething important.....

And for the part about GW coming into line with the rest of the expensive world? Did your car insurance go up by 17-20%?. Did your property tax go up by 17-20%?.

I hope it didn't.

I decided that i'd look into Kings of War and found out that a reasonable 1000pts army costs me all of £70 for 103 models.

I'm crossing my fingers and I'm going to order some wargames factory skeles along with a box of immortal classical greeks in an attempt to jump start my greek tomb kings

Playing Necromunda two evenings a week. Feels good man.

I realised that I have a ton of unbuilt stuff that I should probably get round to building....18 THousand Sons, 1 x CSM Predator, 1 x Defiler, 1 x Stompa, 6 x Kans, 1 x Deff Dread, 1 x FW Night Lord Dreadnought, 30 Grots, Ork Battleforce, Ork Truck, 20 Nightlords, 2 Rhinos, and 2 partially completed FW mega dreads lol

I'm getting better at painting faces, finishing off a pair of speeders that took me 3 days to complete (a record for me) and waiting on a pair of commissions to arrive. I also hear I won't have the kits I need affected by the rise coming out of GW. Don't care about metal vs. resin as I have so little experience in either its all the same to me. Started checking out Infinity and liking the models I see. All seems well in Lucoland.

The only days for gaming in my area (Buffalo, NY) @ at FLGSs are Tuesday and Friday. For some reason, I've managed to work both days almost all the time, even over multiple jobs. I don't know anybody that plays 40k personally, just whoever shows up at the clubs, so playing at somebodies home is also not an option.

Since my exams finished on Wednesday, I've gotten a Retribution class battleship, and a few cruisers and escaorts painted. We've got a big game coming up on Friday, and I've got two Chimera chassis I want to finish painting by then....busy painting week ahead of me!

The Maryland Battle Bunker is pretty sweet, had 2 good games there.

Just primed my huge pile of stuff to be primed.

Figured out a cheap and cheerful way to do Death Cult Assassins.

Hosted my local once a month 40k tournament at the FLGS, and had a great turnout for one of the months we're not giving away a large guaranteed prize. Had enough that we ended up having to turn a couple of people away who arrived close to last minute, because we literally ran out of tables. It was a dry run of switching over to a battle points style system using individual points for Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary objectives, and everyone seemed to like it, so that was a plus. So was seeing a lot of people that we normally only see drive down once a year for our mini GT in the fall. Good day for gaming in Kansas City.

My friend found the O&G army I bought him. It was lost for 7 months. It was in his closet.

I completed my Wanderers Army in building Which means I am done collecting 40k!

Got the girlfriend hooked on 40k enough to the point we're going to start doing campaigns that'll be played a couple nights a week.

Epic news for me seeing as though this girl, a couple months ago, was giving me so much gak about being a dork, but now she can't get enough Orks.

There's nothing better than having someone right in your own house that's up for a game whenever the opportunity arises.

got the people i play with to get into Infinity (which everything i've seen looks awesome)

Oh, and my KoW Undead legion grew today. More wraiths, which i think are the nicest models i've ever seen.

I have some good news:

Played our first game of Dark Heresy since October last year. Felt good to get back into the swing of things, and everyone fell back into their characters really easily. The scenario itself went even better than I had planned, and for the first time since we started I actually killed one of my players (forcing him to Burn Fate to survive the attack that would have otherwise blasted his head off and set his corpse and the tree he was in on fire!). A good time was had by all.

Deathwatch: Mark of the Xenos should be coming out within the next week or so. Dark Heresy: Daemon Hunter won't be far behind it (I should think). Free RPG day is almost upon us meaning we'll get our first taste of Black Crusade very soon.

Catalyst Game Labs have started a new series of BattleTech PDF products designed to help GM's and player groups with settings for their campaigns. The Objectives series of PDF's go into detail about the various planets and important 'Mech Factories within a specific faction's territory, further defining the BattleTech universe. As this series expands players will be given a good 'snapshot' of the current standing of each faction, and games will be able to take on a greater meaning than 'kill the other guy before he kills me'.

And in other fantastic news, GW shot themselves in the foot last week (with a shotgun this time!), further enhancing their death spiral. We should all celebrate that last one.

I tabled a plague marine player with my necron destroyer wing, he killed one destroyer the whole game

I finally got round to writing the second session for the Dark Heresy game I'm GMing. Plus I've made some more progress on my 750pt Firestorm Amada Sorylian Fleet, they should be ready for the table top fairly shortly.

Same here. For Deathwatch, we traded off the role of GM for each mission. That was interesting.

I think I got some good news. I managed to piss off my local FLGS. In response I also decided to quit the hobby, sell all my models, and get my ass back into weightlifting.

Had a really good Flames of War battle last week. My second ever game and I won by 2 points to 0 against a good op. Used Airborne and really just stuck to some good tactics and didn't just run up to him. Really chuffed how that went.

Had the best 40k game I've had in a long time against one of my closest friends. Was tense and came down to 1KP!

I tried a little different load out on my Orks yesterday and won the match. I stuck a bigchoppa boss in with a trukk mob/nob+pk. His first assault he laid a dreadnaught out. So theres that! At least something good happened yesterday for me

After many months of looking me and my dad (who doesnt play, does to scale railways, and in a wheel chair) finally found the local gw in nottingham city center (since we had problems finding it) while sitting down drinking in starbucks supping a mocha (for me) and a black americano for him x) we looked up and simply went "oh" XD

oh and that store is celebrating its 25th aniversary on saterday, and the'll be cake :3

My good news in gaming, I finally visited a FLGS in Cardiff (Firestorm Games, they have ads on here occasionally) I'd wanted to take a look at for a while, was very impressed, shame I can't drop any moolah on the hobby at the moment (spending about 4 months hobby budget on a dys wars starter fleet and rulebook off a friend this weekend).

I decided to go back to the good old days when wargaming was a hobby and didn't mean a load of plastic miniatures fighting around plastic trees and plastic buildings on a plastic board.

I downloaded the rules for Mordheim (free from the GW site... for how much longer?), put together some warbands from my miniature collection and started making some scenery from actual materials. Money spent at GW = £0.00

It's nice to read that we are still enjoying ourselves despite the craziness happening over at GW Towers.

I am still mystified as to why people can't see the awesomeness in wargaming.

Friends, a beer or two, snacks, music, and a bloody good game. Top night!

And to me, that is the main point.

The outright, no frills FUN of gaming, painting, modeling, and stepping back from the BS for if anything just a few minutes. Seriously though, start a good news thread once in awhile and pop off something other then "GW killed my dog, film at 11..." every now and then.

As far as the good news stories, or even just outright Discussion- KEEP THEM COMING.


Just because GW had to make some doo doo in thier pants, doesn't mean you have to rage them the whole time, and that LIFE and gaming go on.

"The hobby" isn't a euphomism for GW, regardless of what they want to sell you.

Try putting up one good post instead of wallowing in GW's Gak this week. Not nessesarily trying to be the pink pony, but with every day that goes by we see Gak followed by Gak over someones dumbass decision making process. Tabletop gaming doesn't revolve around one company, and you can either trim the fat, tighten your belt, or find an alternative.

The choices are always there, because !@#$ knows we need some good news these days.

Just finished putting together some Mantic stuff (which looks really nice), downloaded the rules for Gorkamorka (have some boyz, a Nob etc kicking around - thinking of getting Mexican Bandito heads from , rediscovered my Mordheim book & some of the original scenery from the boxed game...

Put most of the GW books I rarely use on sale, enjoying researching other games etc...trying to re-discover joy and balancing out my gaming humours & BoW have some videos back up

OUt of curiosity does anyone have good thigns to say about Flames of War? It is the game I am most interested in not made by Games Workshop.

Seriously, it's a fantastic game. Great mechanics that are not only historically accurate, but don't bog down game play with too many factors. A fantastic model range, and if you don't want to pay Battlefront prices, feel free to purchase any other 15mm WWII models - they're everywhere!

You've got a range of periods and theaters to chose from - Early, Mid, and Late, and the Eastern/Western fronts, as well as Italy and Africa.

If WWII isn't your thing, there's always Vietnam. Play as either the US (with better technology, tanks, and helicopters!) or the PAVN (hordes of infantry, able to bring their destroyed units back to the table, boobytraps!).

As for other good news, Privateer Press announced their 10th Anniversary sale! Pick up a Warmachine/Hordes anniversary pack (the battlebox/warpack, the faction's token set, and a template set, and get a free tape ruler and a rulebook. Think I'll pick up a Hordes faction.

Meh, never liked Warmahordes. The Steam Punk style just never appealed to me.

Now, Flames of War? THAT I can get behind. I'll probably buy the rulebook as soon as I come into some more money at home.

Most GW kits are going up $4-6 is all.

Electric here is going up by 21%
Gas has went from $3.30 to $3.80
Pepsi was $5 for a 24 pack now i pay $6.98. $5.98 if i can find it on sale.
Water Bill when i was renting before i moved went from $40 a month to $100 due to they wanted a new sewer system
Move tickets went from $7 a ticket 2 years ago to $9.50
Half awake and i hit a car in my driveway.. just bumped it and my insurance went up alot just because im a male and first accident ever in 10 years of driving.
Tostino's Pizzas went from $1 each to $1.25 each
Property taxes went up and i pay $50 a month more on my house.
Intrest on my credit card went from 17% to 24%. (not like much is on it but its the principle)
over the last 2 years i could buy a 20oz soda for $1.. nowits $1.50
TV + Cable goes up by $5-$15 a year.


i could keep going.. but thats enough for my point. and its off topic.

It's a very happy thought that im finally motivated to make the army i have wanted for the last 3 years.

Ran a tournament last weekend, finished painting 130 points
worth of privateer press models (60 models in all), and got to
play warmachine with someone still learning the game on friday.

A very productive weekend.

Oh bugger now I remember why I hate paypal. Forgot that I had it pre set to ship to Waco while I'm living in Plano! Thank goodness I noticed quickly and sent Neal an email and its all sorted out. I hope my purchase comes soon, itching to put something together in weeks

I got my two guys from the Cutlass range that I was waiting on. the Undead Captain, and this guy named Diamond Jim. (reallygood looking figs. Remind me of the first edition Necromunda days without the frills and B.S.)

Second thing was that I found an army of Trollkin I had from back when they first came out. basic boxed set, a squad of champions and a box of boomhowlers.

Third thing was to get rid of about a quarter inch of dust and drop somepledge on an area that hasn't seen it in four years. ( think that might help in my allergy department?) ended up coughing up a ball of that new resin/ plastic mix.

It goes along with the bad news but I'm getting more familiar with feebay and the cheap goods it offers. Won an offer on a librarian and have started painting it. Odd model. I named him Mr. Glompy.

I just had a flick through WD and it looked okay, I was actually tempted to buy it!

Finecast minis looked good too, also tempting.

I've decided to dive into Infinity and am picking up my rulebook and starter packs this weekend. It looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait to start building all the terrain that the game requires.

There are such a lot of excellent non GW related issues of minis and games it makes my head spin

I painted up my first 15pts of Cryx. No small feat, for me.

finally finished painting up my kitbashed fantasy daemon prince, and have just about finished a test model for the new paint job on my chaos marines ( the purged, with no metallic paints used)

i mostly got bad nexs... i bought 80 boys on ebay or so i thought but they say they are now out of stock, so cancelled my order ... and i paid imediatly and have yet to get my refund yet and that was last friday :(

but i did get 20 boz from another vendor that are supposed to be here tuesday

With all of the talk about other systems, and pulling out some of my archives, I finished the villian box for Pulp City.

Last guy I have is Hellsmith, who I think needs some undead sparta guys. Looking for that company that had the multi part Spartans and Athenians, does anyone know the name of that company?

Added in a couple of Hero click guys for contacts and assets, and have them piled up for the final varnish spraying before I box them up.

Working on the last batch of the Orks and Dark Angel Squad before the move.

Took a step back from GW hate to try to be a little more objective and am trying to gather up the stuff and get it all into a couple of boxes.

Found out a few mates still have their armies, so this weekend we are gonna have a 4way battle in my shed,
And I found an honour squad I never knew I even had
And Gotrek, Felix and 2 others from that limited edition series from a while ago
And a shaggoth
And about 700pts of space marines

Gonna be a usy month re painting all that

I started painting my Ork Boyz, got a deff rolla for my battle wagon and sent of some bits for my first Looted tank project

That and I introduced a mate of mine to 40K so I'll soon have new imps to stomp on

My english civil war army is almost finished apart from 8 horsemen and 1 more cannon (no money to buy said cannon though)

I've started my swiss napoleonics with enjoyment and enthusiasm of doing more

I'm happy that eventually when I have cash I can use Victrix british infantry as American 1812 infantry and content enough to also cheat and use bits as dutch and belgians despit not being 100% accurate.

I'm happy at the progress of the start to my Roman army, though still can't decide on shield colour.

and my last game on sunday with ECW though a loss was greatly enjoyable

Got another AoBR box, 2 boxes of lootas, and a boyz box saturday, just glued em all together last night alogn with the 20 boys from last week i'll have lots to paint this sunday: 40 boys 5 nobz 1 warboss which I converted into a big mek with SAG , 3 deffcoptas and thier buggie sleds (i make little sleds with wheels that they sit on to work as either) then I'll be making the boyz box into 8 burners and the 8 lootas in the boxes plus the 2 more meks ... which like the others will jsut chill in the case

on the SM side with this AoBR box i now have enough for a 1250 point army so i might field space marines for the first time this weekend 2 10 man tac squads, 2 captains, 2 dreds, 10 terminators, 5 of which are converted to thunderhammer/stormshield (2 AoBR boxes basically) probably proxy ork vehicles in battlewagons for land raiders and trukks for razerbacks

so great week for me overallfor mini games!

yep.. I have been playign for 6 months with 2 attacks only 1 if they had a shoota so i was cheating myself on attacks >_< but you live and learn 4 attacks on the charge 3 reg fo choppa boys this weekend.. thought if i take the marines I'm sure i'll get somethign wrogn with them to as it'll be thier fist time on the table

Well next week end we're starting up BattleTech again after what must be a two year hiatus. And we're also starting a mini Blood Bowl league for the first time.

That reminds me, I've got to find my Orcs and Gobbos that I've had sitting in a box for years now. I need something beyond a the plastic team.

Fallout from Legal issues, career-change blues, and overall malaise would have me in a very bad way if it were not for the almost meditative effect of assembling and painting my new TK army.

I also made some painting progress on my models.

My Limited Edition Studio McVey sculpt, Ar-Fiach, arrived and I am delighted to report that it is in good order with some flash on the seam lines which should be easy to clean up.

Very fine elegant sculpt, only hope I can do her justice.

my lgs started a month long tourney and me and my mate won making it 4 all between chaos and good, 40k.

also finally got my wraithguard in the ost

Got my first large commission. Over a hundred models on the first go around, pretty nifty. Also I broke my record on fastest time for a finished model. Lots to paint!

I picked up a Yu Jing team from Infinity, I love the models can't wait to paint them, now if I could just find my basing material.

I also picked up and assembled a real class act of a model. The talos/cronos. Not only is it beautiful, but by far the best directions of any model I've gotten from Games Workshop. No more assembling 4-5 parts simultaneously trying to figure out how they go together. And the parts are separated onto different sprues, almost exclusively, I think the "talos" side of the sprue had only 2 parts for the cronos on it. I also picked up some scourges, but haven't gotten to putting them together yet.

I've been playing a few games of Dystopian Wars, and I'm really enjoying it.

Spartan Games has also just released their ground forces starter boxes for Dystopian Wars and they are awesome.

I painted up a batch of USX Deep ones. Getting the last minute stuff packed up and getting ready to move still.


I have found things that King Tut would be proud to call his own in the process.

Gathering up more free stuff from Drive thru, and looking hard at that laviathans game. Interested in that Dystopian wars, and Smog. Going to get more in depth in that when I get to the new place.

With all of the other stuff I have going on, gaming is pretty much on hold for a few weeks.

Forgeworld released the Astral Claws bits last week.

They kick serious ass!

Oh, in last week's battle tech game, I finally got to lead our scout squad (4 light mechs) as we touched down on a new planet.

We were attacked, but I didn't lose any of my men and I captured a 60 ton mech (mostly in tact). So, that was fun. Not bad for my first command. Now, back to the rank and file as we deploy in full force.

It's my birthday in less than a week. Want Dark Eldar.

Also, I came up with some background and rules for three minor 40k races.

Went to UK Games Expo, great day out.

Chaos Maruaders - the GW licenced game by FFG, not played it yet.
Mars RPG setting for Savage Worlds - looks interesting, I love pulp sci-fi.
Runebound expansions - 6 expnasions for £21, good deal, and I do like Runebound.
Purple Meeples - my grilfriend always complains about the lack of purple meeples in games.
40K Ork Nobz - I trawled the show for minis and this was the best buy. Great minis, wish I'd bought some of these sooner.

Really enjoying my gaming right now. And our recent Rogue Trader RPG games have been great fun playing as Ork Freebootas. Love the 40K setting, really getting into Games Workshop games now. Can't wait for the Necrons to get a new release. As I saved some money at the show I'm really tempted to go down Games Workshop tomorrow to see if anything takes my eye. Really getting the itch to buy a Baneblade so I can make an Ork Skullhamma

I lost for the first time with my guard tonight. It felt great.

Something wonderful just happened to me. I just picked up FW's the Anphelion Project and all three Seige of Vraks books from a charity shop for £80! I saved £75 and the money I did spend went to charity! They're all in good nick, apart from a little wear at the edges. I'm so chuffed, I'm practically a steam train.

My girlfriend gets +100 girlfriend points for spotting them.

I won my first game of Necromunda in 12 years the other night. Flamers for the win... and also built and *nearly* finished painting a new command squad, a vanguard jump pack squad (with some lovely maxmini bits and pieces) and an all-lascannon devastator squad for my mighty Minotaurs.

Just outside of Philadelphia, near a little town called Media, PA. The store that's getting the upgrade is on Route 1, in the Granite Run Mall. Have a second store up by Villanova University, in Bryn Mawr.

The possessed obviously rolled 'infiltrate' as their random power and made it through the embargo quicker. The rest of your lads are still dodging through the barbwire and spotlights.
