Project Quick Jump Navigation:

Chaplin Cassius
Converted Ork Warboss
Ultramarines Dreadnought 1
Ultramarines Dreadnought 2
Cadian Special Weapon Troops
Converted Mephiston
Malifaux Models
Death Korps of Krieg army
Cadian Veterans with Special Weapons

Last Summer I started my Blood Angels blog to try and give me some incentive to complete my first full 40k army. This worked rather well and I got quite a bit completed but my blog also brought with it requests for commission work from people. I ended up getting quite a few projects going but had very little time to work on anything after returning to uni so my blog saw very few updates and I had to stop taking on commission work.

However I am now back from university again and so will have much more time to put into the hobby. This means my Blood Angels will be getting some more updates and I'll be able to take on some more commission work. I've started this log to show the progress of any commission work I get so as to keep my army log separate. I'm also redesigning my website and hope to have that up and running soon.

Here just to include some pictures are some Imperial Guard I've completed recently. I've had some Imperial Guard Models lying around for years so though this would be a good time to paint them up as commission practice. Nothing fancy just quick, cheap, tabletop quality and here's the first squad finished with just some varnish to add. I'm not sure whether to keep these or just throw them on ebay and see what happens but I do have some more lying around so I shall make a decision after I've painted some more.

Edit: Picture updated, click to view larger

Expect more updates soon.

Ok well here's my first new commission. I've been asked to convert an Avatars of War Orc Hero into a 40k Ork Warboss. The client said he's not sure if he wants me to paint it or if he wants to do it himself and he'll decide when it's done. While I much prefer the painting aspect of the hobby I'm not going to miss the chance to work on such an awesome model.

Here's a picture of the stock Avatars of War Orc Hero:

The client wants the model to keep much of the same look such as the armour, head and cape but wants it to be equipped with a large power klaw and a twin linked shoota. He also wanted it to have a rubble/city fight base but other than that I have a bit of free reign.

So the first thing I set to doing was ordering in the model itself and some other parts and then built up the base. As the model has a raised foot the base had to be built up to accommodate so a quick raid of the bits box and some pva and sand and I've come up with the following:

The red part is half of the front of an old space marine bike that the warboss can be standing on.

Stay tuned for more updates.

I next began work on the Ork Warboss himself. Firstly I removed the Warboss's right arm from the model using a combination of a jewelers saw and an industrial grinder this was a lot of work in itself especially making sure the cloak wasn't damaged.

My client had asked for a very large power klaw so I immediately though of Ghazis claw and made room in the model to accommodate that. So after a good while of sawing and grinding and then finally somw drilling to allow for the arm to be pinned here's where the Warboss is up to at the moment:

There are some gaps to fill and greenstuff editing to do but that's coming after the main body of the model is built. The head is also only bluetacked in place at the moment as I will want it looking in the direction of the gun arm when that's built.

Comments and Critique are appreciated

agreed, that ork is gonna look pretty wicked =]

and the IG looks pretty good, especially if you say they were done pretty quickly. traditional color scheme with nice shading and use of metallics.

Thanks for the comments guys I was getting quite worried that no one was posting on this blog same with my blood angels log but there's still no more comments on there

Next on the Ork warboss I converted the arm holding his twin linked shoota. This involved cutting off the hand of the arm aswell as sawing and grinding away the length of the axe that ran down his arm.

I then took the hand from an Ork Nob and the shoota from and Attack on Black Reach Warboss then after lots of cutting and filing came up with the following:

There's still lots of work to do with greenstuff and maybe some plasticard but the model is starting to come together now.

Sweet job, but that gun looks a bit small to balance out the power claw, do you have anything bigger?

The WAAAGH Studios Commission Log - Mephiston Conversion @ 2011/05/31 19:08:30

Post by: AlexHeap

Been working today on greenstuff work for the Ork Warboss should have a picture of that tomorrow.

In the mean time though here's a picture of another 10 Imperial Guardsmen I've painted up up in my quick tabletop quality scheme:

@DaemonJellyBelly: I was actually thinking that the gun might be a big big for him lol but I've shown the client the pics and he said he's very happy with it. There will still be some plasticard work done onto it yet so it's not finished. Stay tuned and thanks for the feedback.

Here's the next update on the Ork Warboss. He's had a plasticard irongob added as well as a bionic eye. I've also been filling in some of the gabs on the model with greenstuff as well as sculpting some extra cloak and changing some of the musculature to accommodate the models new pose. The wrist guard on this left arm was also re-done now that the axe haft has been removed.

Going to work on the gun next and then some more on the power klaw.

I've recently been going over some of my old models and updating them as I've learnt a lot in the last couple of years of painting.

For example here's my Chaplain Cassius model that I painted about 3 years ago:

I had him up in the swap shop for a while but as no one had made any offers I decided to redo him and here's the outcome:

Much better I'm sure you'll agree

Here's the next update on the Ork Warboss:

Some extra armour plating has been added to both the gun and the power klaw aswell as rivets to all the plasticard work. He's pretty much done now so I shall email the client and see if there's anything else he want's doing, if not he's all finished bar painting.

I've also been working on updating some of my older models like the Chaplain Cassius shown earlier. Here's the next one that I've finished a Venerable Dreadnought:

He's also completely magnatised as shown here:

Following on from my repainting of old models here's the second ultramarines dreadnought that I've completed.

I bought this dreadnought from ebay when I was much younger and painted him quite badly:

and here he is after repainting and some conversion because of some mould issues and very thick paint:

Ok time for another update the Warboss has been sent off to the client so he's all gone now.

I've also just finished another commission for two Imperial Guard Special Weapon Troopers. The client gave very specific instructions on how he wanted them based and painted so that they fitted in with his army exactly.

Here are the pictures:

Just posted them off today but from the pictures he said they matched up with his own army well and was very happy with them.

Hey guys here's a new update on some commission work that I've got. This time it's to convert and paint a new version of Mephiston.

The conversion uses parts of Astorath and Mephiston himself to create a new version of Mephiston using his psychic powers to make him hover.

Here's a picture of the converted model:

Both Astorath and Mephiston were cut in half and then attached together. Mephiston's cloak was also hollowed out using an Industrial Grinder before
attaching that to him aswell. The skull lining of Mephiston's cloak was then resculpted with greenstuff aswell as resculpting any details that had been
damaged in the cutting process and filling any gaps. The scroll work from Astorath was then attached to the resin base, heated and bent slightly to fit
more snugly and then Mephiston was attached to it.

I've emailed the client and he's very happy with it so I've got the go ahead to start the painting process. Stay tuned and I'll post some pictures as I paint him.

@Alpharius: Cheers mate

Here's the next update for Mephiston, all the base colours have been added:

The model was first sprayed black and then each base colour was layered on. The red armour was painted with Mechrite Red, areas that would be gold were painted with Scroched Brown, metal areas with Boltgun Metal, purity seals and scrolls with Khemri Brown with the seals themselves Scab Red, the skin was painted Tallarn Flesh, the hair Snakebite Leather, shoulder pad wings Astronomican Grey and the plasma coils Regal Blue.

The sword and backpack are being painted separately.

He's looking good, Alex - did you find Astaroth being in Finecost a boon to making this conversion?

The WAAAGH Studios Commission Log - Mephiston Conversion @ 2011/06/25 20:31:20

Post by: AlexHeap

Astorath being in finecast was definitely a help. The stuff is very easy to convert and luckily the cast I got of him was practically flawless. Well lucky for my client not so much for me as I was hoping there'd be a miscast in part that I wouldn't need for the conversion so I could ring up customer services and get a free one

@Alpharius: Cheers mate

Here's the next update for Mephiston, all of the colours have received their first stage of definition:

The upper areas of the armour were highlighted with Blood Red with the segmented areas highlighted with a 50/50 Blood Red/Red Gore mix. Metal areas were highlighted with Chainmail and washed with Badab Black. The face and hair were washed with Ogryn Fesh. Scrollwork was layered with Kommando Khaki. Gold areas were painted Shining Gold, washed with Ogryn Flesh and highlighted with Shining Gold. The featherd shoulder pad was then washed with Asurmen Blue.

The WAAAGH Studios Commission Log - Mephiston Conversion @ 2011/06/26 12:03:27

Post by: Rawson

That's a brave conversion for sure! Converting metal models can be such a pain, and you loose a lot of details sometimes. Well done on the resculpted parts!

Can we see a side view?

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Rawson

Here's a new update guys. I've currently got two commissions on. The first is for a number of Malifaux models and then other is for a large part of a Death Korps of Krieg army.

Here's a picture of the DKOK as they arrived to me I'll be building, painting and basing all of them:

My other, current, commission is to complete 10 models from the Malifaux line including resin bases. Here's a picture of them before work begins:

@jackanory: Thanks for the reply I really enjoyed painting the Freikorps I think they're brilliant models.

Here are pictures of the Mlifaux models which are now finished.

Now that they're done I'll be focusing on the Death Korps of Krieg army so stay tuned for updates on that.

Now that my Malifaux Commission is finished and posted to the client it's time to focus on the Death Korps of Krieg army.

So far I've managed to build and base everything that's been sent to me and it's all ready to be undercoated tomorrow.

This picture shows all the infantry models built and based ready for undercoating. 1 Death Rider is missing as are the Heavy Bolters as they will be arriving later after the client has posted them.

This picture shows all the warmachines built and ready for undercoating. One of the Quad Launchers is missing as some of the parts that arrived from Forgeworld were not correct. The Hades Breaching Drill has also been left partially unbuilt so that I can paint the inside areas more easily.

I'm really looking forward to painting these so stay tuned for more updates.

Looks beautiful, the only thing I can think that looks "off", you need to take a drill to the melta gun barrels.

Otherwise very very nice paint job

As this is commission work everything that I do is what the client has requested. He didn't want the weapons drilled so they are left as is.

Thanks for the compliment about the paintjob though
