I don't. There's no power sword in game, which irks me, simply a chainsword and 2h power axe/thunder hammer. I wants a sword/pistol, dangnabbit!
It likely is "Perform X achievement and Y is unlocked in Space Marine". Not a bad way to do it, similar to how a lot of Steam games now have achievements in indie games that unlock hats for TF2.

There's also a power sword (blinged out in gold IIRC) that is a preorder bonus in case you missed that announcement last week. I wholeheartedly support tie ins with other games (I wish xbox games had more unlocks in new sequels for having previous games in the title completed but that is rarely the case) but I'm not a fan of ones that give you a multiplayer benefit.

THQ’s dropped first details, screens and a video of Warhammer 40K: Kill Team, an XBLA and PSN arcade shooter designed to pre-cursor the release of Space Marine in September.
The local co-op 40K shooter will be released only for PSN and XBLA in July for $10, and will unlock a Power Sword for use in Space Marine. Take a look at a gameplay movie and screens below.
Kill Team casts you in a Space Marine team sent to assault a giant Ork Kroozer en-route to an Imperial Forge World.
You’ll be able to choose from four classes, including ranged specialists the Sternguard Veteran and Techmarine, and more melee-focused classes like the Vanguard Veteran and Librarian.
It’s to feature two-player, same-screen co-op, multiple weapon upgrades and six Space Marine chapters.
Anyone that buys the game and completes its first mission will unlock the Power Sword weapon for use in Space Marine multiplayer: it apparently features “unique animations, combos and damage output.”
Space Marine itself releases in September for PC, PS3 and 360.

Gameplay looks like mindless, explosive awesomeness. And Tyranids are in it as well!
Not a fan of this being only two-players. Hopefully they'll expand it to the de facto top-down standard of four before release.

I just can't wait for people to use this to justify their super space marine fluff. "They need to make marines better in 40k I mean it's well known that a space marine can take down an ork stompa, I did it in the video game. All their stats should be 11s".

Actually, they could be in a Rok (an Asteroid converted into an Ork ship) or if they are on a hulk, then they are just as often full of Orks (or even Eldar or Daemons) as they are of Nids.

The game has some DLC tie ins with the upcoming full console/ pc Space Marine game which starts as a marine vs. ork story (with some chaos apparently thrown in later). I'm not surprised for that reason. It could be a somewhat related story where a DW kill team (despite them not having the right armor colors) are sent to destroy something orky which leads to the plot in the full game, ala the DA and Ghaz on Piscinia and then everyone else versus him on Armageddon.

Kinda sad though its only 2 players, top downs imo are best played with x4 people, from alien swarm to marvel ultimate alliance. But I suppose with Space Marines and orks it would get way too chaotic

This is excessively cheaply made with models ported directly out of dawn of war two and a significant amount of terrain models taken from there as well (at one point theres a ten foot tall tyranid command center just sitting in the background). It also looks like it's using dawn of war 2's engine. Still, despite looking like a high grade starcraft 2 map editor creation, it's an alien swarm clone and I liked alien swarm. I may pick it up if the ratings are good. Hopefully it's not too short/buggy.

I'm not sure I would call this third person as the camera is isometrically docked to a consistent center point between players and doesn't seem to have a y axis rotation.

this is something that I think could work really well for THQ and Relic. strip the skins off of everything. Animate new enemies, adjust the levels, and create a 'series' of kill team games! There could be 'space marines crash into a space hulk (genestealers, classic space hulk)', space marines crash into a hive ship (tyranids!), space marines crash into a craftworld (eldar), space marines crash into a black fortress (chaos space marines/demons), space marines crash into a tomb ship (necrons), space marines crash into 'what ever the largest tau ship is' (sperm whale?) . Anyway, you get the picture.
YES they will be repetitive, these kinds of games always are! We still love them.
They could mix it up with new weapons, and equipment like flamers, melta guns which are good at taking out vehicles, but suck against infantry. Allow a variety of chapters with different attributes which correspond to their fluff (space wolves have CC bonus', blood angels flip out with blood rage, Dark angels are sad , ultra marines do NOTHING DIFFERENT!!! ).
Maybe ad some special characters, Mephiston helps you figure out a puzzle, Vulkan helps you craft a new weapon, Draigo comes in and wins the game for you, etc..
I hope they think about it, I would love to have this sort of thing be a regular occurrence.

Elf needs food badly.
And
Since when can SM move and shoot heavy weapons?
Lol
Just kidding this looks awesome!

The only reason they can't in 40K is game balance - otherwise... run and dakka, especially with a heavy bolter, FTW!

If anyone in 40k should, Space Marines are the most reasonable. If rebuilding 40k from the ground up, I think it would make perfect sense to give them a special rule where they can shoot on the move, albeit at a minus of some sort.

Also, an expansion allowing four players would be supercool. It's one neat feature of modern systems and having big screens common- community games.

Reckon this will still cost £10 in the UK despite costing only $10 in the US. Will still get it though as it looks like a fun little game for the cost of 3 pints.
THQ does seem to be doing very well with the W40k licence. The Dawn of War games are great and I'm looking forward to Space Marine (despite not even being a SM player) and Dark Millenium.

You do realize Major Nelson works for xbox live and does the videos for all the XBLA games, right? I'd say his announcements are a little more trustworthy than anything else floating around online.
As for the game, I'm not super excited about it, mainly because I don't like twin joystick shooting games, but I might pick it up to get the powersword for Space Marine.

That's reassuring I guess, it's just that space Marine and the were so tight lipped about info i doubted everything. Good to know, now I have a source for future xbox release dates. Thanks

Actually, reread the Xbox website.
June 27th is when the Kill Team Announcement Trailer released. That's the only game material listed on there.

Almost done with it in coop, might go through it again for the sake of getting all the power ups etc. So far I've played as Sternguard and the better half as the Vanguard, which made me feel somewhat useless as the Vanguard is way better at this than the Sternguard. When we have our game nights at work (the joys of working for a video game company) we have real trouble of finding games that aren't XBL gold only - I salute this move for more games that require you to be in the same room.

Agreed. The lack of 4 player (or even 2!) online coop on the same screen is what turned this from a ZOMG MUST BUY!! to a must download and try. I applaud developers not forgetting about couch coop (which they have been doing in recent years) but us folks in the boonies need grimdark love too!

I've gone through the second and third stage, if I use something else than the Sternguard Veteran, I get steam rolled hard... almost as my usual WH40K table top game.
Plasma Cannon / Heavy Bolter are good weapons, especially with perks and special power activated.... I'm just wondering why the Plasma Cannon never gets hot!
The Librarian is a beast in shining power armour for close combat, but I've found it a bit lacky on defence and hit points, his special power then it's not so... great. Basically you need to get too close to the enemy and get beaten for a couple of seconds before using the power :\
Vanguard Veteran is cute even if I would have loved to effectivly use the Jump Pack rather than see it used only for the special move.
I yet have to try the Techmarine.
This evening I'm going to have a real good session of hot plasma shots!

Split screen sounds good, not enough games have it IMHO... I think the lack of an online multiplayer option is no surprise to what's essentially a lead out game to Space Marine, which surely will have it... Is there a thread anywhere where people can list their PSN/XBL IDs for online SM larks?

I have to disagree, the techmarine and librarian while not being as good at their role shooting/ melee, respectively. They didn't suffer from the weakness of their opposite like the sternguard and vanguard did. Just as an example, i found it easier to melee ranged nobs and tyranid warriors, but the sternguard was just too ineffective at it whereas the techmarine was able to do it , albeit not that well.
one thing i will say is that the vanguard and sternguards "specials" are more effective because you activate them and they're immediately used whereas the tarantula requires a second or two to deploy and the psychic blast has a charge up time.

Post by: grey_death
If you're not using your techmarines special as much as possible, you're doing it wrong
When it's full, find a choke point to deploy it, it'll nearly recharge the special meter itself. It actually will when you use the special attack perks.

Turret+ Meltagun= win the game.
I've gone through as a Sternguard and going through right now as a Techmarine. The Sternguard was really killy but died alot.
I just killed the hive tyrant with the Techmarine: no deaths. Takes longer to drop bosses, but turret spam makes the world a better place.

yesterday evening I've finished the game with a couple of friends. We switched at every level. IT WAS A BLAST!
We used :
Sternguard Veteran (given to the most inexperienced player)
Techmarine (first choice of the inexperienced player, switched from 2nd level)
Librarian (friend's personal charachter)
Vanguard Veteran (mine)
sincerely, the Sternguard rocks, it's a beast with the Requiem, then with the Plasma and with the Missile Launcher is practicaly a WIN WIN situation. He was the core of our tactics, he gave fire support while the Vanguard / Librarian cleared the path.
The Librarian is most useful in co-op because it's a fast DPS rather than the Vanguard who generates more damage but it's slower (even with power claws).
Perks are great at some point... but I do have to understand how some people managed to obtain 1.760.000 points on the last level when we barely managed to get to 660.000/700.000 I think they did not die so often as we did.
Blast game anyway, I hope they make some DLC to increase maps and such even if they've closed the developing team... it's excellent to play with friends into WH40K or to explain effectively how and what Marines are from Deathwatch. Those two friends are also players in my ongoing campaign of Deathwatch RPG... we wanted the DW armor but instead we did the Salamanders.

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
I thought the game was cancelled, so I bought Section 8 Prejudice!
Oh well, I will buy it after I pre-order Space Marine. Nothing says I have to play it before I play Space Marine to get the power sword correct?

Eh, it was good and fun for a while, the thing that I feel is missing is the addition of online co-op (note: I said addition; I still support the offline split screen, which most new games seem to be lacking).
I wouldn't say I'd get it again if I had the choice, but the power sword thing for SM is pretty neat.

Yah, I think I will end up getting the powersword retro-actively. You can do that right?

Wait, this doesn't have online co-op? Bummer. :(
Still, I'm hoping to find time to snag this over the weekend.

This wasn't the worst game I've ever played, but if it wasn't three hours long I wouldn't have finished it.

Really?
I've spent at least that on the first mission.
Trying to beat a friend's score on the level is half of the fun.
Reminds me of Bulletstorm in that way.
Playing it for a score, rather than to get thru it.
Running through with each character gives plenty of replay value.
The only character I dislike was the assault marine. His special felt wonky, and inefficient.
I would have liked online co- op. My xbox friends are not in my city.
I think some spots are almost too difficult for solo play.

I played through it co- op with a friend so maybe that's why it went so fast. The whole thing just felt rushed to me and some of my favorite games are dungeon crawls so I thought I'd enjoy it a lot more.

It is too easy with coop. I asked my little cousins to play out a coop level for the achievement (no online coop means I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise) and they passed through an entire level only with only one death... and that was with completely stupid choices that waste the powerups. I do wish that they added a difficulty toggle to the game to increase the challenge.
