Hey all

Due to popular demand we are going to do a Pre-Heresy Legion Conclave


For those of you who dont know what this is, here is the idea

I would be looking to try and get as many marines of Pre-Heresy Legions together.This requires participation from the Dakka community. Whoever wants to take part would paint just one marine of a certain legion of their choosing.
Due to the fact that there are only 18 Legions, please choose from one of the below. If you wish to do another type of marine, please submit it to the New Space Marine Conclave instead
You will be able to paint more than one legion if you want and there will be no problem with doubling up (ie you and another person do the same legion) as long as we end up with all the 18 legions by the end
Due to being expunged, the 2nd and 11th legions will not be choosable as there is no subject matter on them

This marine would then be posted to me. (You will not get it back)

Im based in London BTW

I will take a picture of each marine sent and post it on Dakka
Once a certain time has passed there will be a group photo of all the submitted marines. The whole project will then be listed on Ebay or Dakka in a bid form and the money raised will all go to charity

Well if you are up for it then go ahead

But dont think we should impose restrictions on other people and say you have to have an older Mark of battle plate, etc
Some people wont have access to that so will just leave it open
As long as it is true to what the colour scheme and general look of the legions then it should be fine i reckon

I'll do Ultramarines and If nobody minds I will also do Emperors Children (maybe their Primarch Fulgrim).

I'll submit marines from the Emperor's Children, Space Wolves, and Alpha Legion

Are we doing matching bases this time? If we can get a resin base company to sponsor this, I don't mind painting and flocking all the bases.

mark 6 armor was made before Mars fell to the traitors, mark 7 was made on Terra just before the siege

This. And also by the time of the Siege the Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children and Word Bearers were showing armour corruption. (The first two due to the changes that took place on the journey, the third by choice and the fourth...read the First Heretic.)

Perhaps I will think about it. I was getting kind of fed up painting beakies white and green anyway. I will have a look at the paint schemes. Got at least a squad of beakies left to paint.

Mate if you want to participate you are more than welcome
Not everyone has access to pre-heresy armour
Normal armour will be fine as long as the legion colour is right

All correct but remember guys this is pre-heresy legions we are doing the colours schemes should be before any of the legions turned traitor
So the Sons of Horus will still be the Luna Wolves

We have 13 of the 18 legions covered

Which has me wondering if the Raptor armour designs are pre-heresy in nature or came about in the Warp. As they'd make for something very dynamic... (and it's bad I have like, 5 spare Raptor bodies and arms but not jump packs....haha)

Hi I will happily paint up a World Eater for this.
Are the Forge World fine. I have some maximus suits I think.
Are they to be based in any particular way?

We'll be happy to do a base for this event! If everyone can get a rough idea together we can refine a concept and get them made up then sent to you. We could do 40mm bases with Dakka Legion Conclave 2011 around the border or something We're doing some bits for a tournament in NY along similar lines.

Okay, if you could clarify on the Basing. I have my GS out and my old 2nd edition Ultramarine Captain ready to convert to a Lunar Wolf. If you can confirm the Basing I can smash this miniature out asap. Also to assist the Pre-Heresy feel I recommend people put up the base Colour Scheme (Paints) even if painted in different styles the base colour should tie them together. For Lunar Wolves I would suggest a Fortess Grey with a slight turquoise wash to give a slightly greenish tint.

So I can balance the Raptor I'm going to end up using as the model on it - Admittedly a raptor without a jump pack but he's going to be fidgetty to base.

Just had to go for the leaping pose really - it screamed Night Lord. And I can imagine them already modifying their armour for the whole TERROR aspect.

Well I think we have that donation of bases so that will be fantastic

[So]Rice has volunteered to paint the bases so if you are prepared to paint your marine up and just loosly attach him to the base that will be great

Regarding the colour scheme that would be an awesome idea to have some form of unity
I reckon the easiest way would be for everyone doing the same type of legion would be to post their colours and chat amongst themselves

Here is my raven guard - work in prog definitely but some idea as to where its going - I may add a few small GS detals, more shadows and highlights and there is going to be freehand symbols and insignia.

couple of quick concepts for the bases for approval / boos / input from everyone. There is the possibility of engraving chapter names but we would need to know at least a few weeks in advance what everyone was doing. The scroll can be left blank for people to freehand etc thei

40mm display surround for 25mm base. The recess can be left blank for people to customise them to theirr own design

...or we could make some 25mm panels to drop in, eg paving slabs. Or we could just do 25mm bases with the banner scroll on this base rather than the large surround. The chapter scroll would stand proud of the paving of course

custom dakka conclave bases? sounds awesome ^_^

i think 40mm conclave bases that can hold the standard marine bases would be great.

especially because that way everyone can paint the standard 25mm base and mount the marine on it without a lot of extra shipping and extra work for smurfwedge ^^

btw,if we decide to let someone make all the 25 mm bases,here are some of my bases. nevermind the edges on the rust bases as they were a quick rust test-painting

I will do Iron warriors and Blood angels if that is ok!(?)

We could do a 25mm insert for the recess with a future paving slab style or as suggested let people use the standard base to customise it as they wish.

I like the idea of a base that a smaller base can be mounted into. Because it lets me start on the model earlier! Otherwise I'd be waiting for the other base - I am going to have to put some work into basing him but it's worth it for the leaping Raptor!

i was talking to smurfwedge and we think it would be great if we had a conclave logo!

i made a quick photoshop concept:





the idea is that this is the main logo for the conclave and, depending on the project, we can add extra text between "the" and "conclave" (space marine,dakka,eldar(if we have an eldar project),a space marine helmet or whatever)

for this project for example we can add "pre-heresy" to make it "the pre-heresy conclave"

we would like feedback/ideas from you guys and would like to know if someone here is a photoshop wizard

We could use the photoshop file as the basis to create the base for this project. So we could make the checkerplate and banner part as a 25mm base and then perhaps do the bevelled surround as a separate part with the pre heresy, dakka dakka, Dark eldar, etc text on it.

Not sure why the pics I uploaded last night keep playing up i'll have a look at them as soon as I get in from work.

Well the pics work on my pc and laptop but not phone. Colour me confused

I have a painted Salamander which was stylised after a Pre-Heresy model. If it would be acceptable I would send it.

And, as I finally have some free time I could also paint a Pre-Heresy Thousands Son marine.

I'll do Sons of Horus! According to canon* the Lunar Wolves were renamed (admittedly only a few months) before the heresy. The Emperor Himself sanctioned the renaming after the Ullanor Crusade.

That and sons of Horus have my favourite colour scheme. The corpsey green is soo cool.

*Novels and thirdparty cardgames are superseded by Rulebooks, WD articles and sourcebooks.

Actually, I'll move the Salamander to the other conclave, but the Thousand Son will stay the same. However, I'll instead do a Pre-Heresy Word Bearer in place of the Salamander.

Awesome. Heresy armour and a topknot methinks. Might even pullout one of my flashy fw heresy suits.... He'll get an umbra ferrox bolter for sure just because SoH are my favourite colour scheme (and because i have five spare lol).

I actually just dug up a bunch of old Marine bitz I could definitely spare (plus its all for charity which is awesome) PM the details for shipping and such and mark me down for Luna Wolves for now if you would be so kind. After I get associated in my new apartment (moving in a few days) I will get crackin' on a Sergeant and or regular grunt for my favorite Legion. Plus I may do a few more if it works out

Mr.Malevolent I'm creating a Lunar Wolf Sergeant based on the cover of False gods. When you paint him drop a PM to me as to your colour scheme or a picture, and I will copy the base colour scheme so they will compliment each other.

To everyone else can we clarify the "Basing" are we mounting on normal 25mm bases and they will be changed to 40mm? Or are we doing Urban 25mm which will then be integrated into a larger Board. It seems like there are alot of good ideas and alot of enthuisiasm but we just need a little bit of direction ( a touch of rudder to keep the ship moving forward) as there seems a bit of ambiguitiy.

Hi all

So me and Ed are going to be making a display surround with a recess for a 25mm base, so you guys can model up the base the marine will be on as you like, with a little banner scroll on it for the chapter name or whatever. We'll get the masters made as soon as the Valkyrie kit has finished cutting on the CNC.

a set of Warmill bases will definitely be the icing on the cake for whoever wins THAT auction

I have an idea that I'll just throw out here. You could set the deadline for September and take all the Space Marines you receive to Games Day. If you mention that this (and the other Conclave) are for charity I'm sure you could get some GW endorsement as well as bringing it to a wider audience (which could bring in more cash this time).

I'll be attending this years GD no matter what, but given that this is a fairly unique project I'm sure that it would be welcome at the event. On top of this I would be happy help out at the event if you go with my suggestion.

Also, I regret to inform you that the Thousand Son and the Word Bearer will have to be Terminators. I hope that isn't a problem.

I asked Dragonforge but didn't get a reply yet. I'm still up for painting 100 or so bases. Could finish it in a about a day anyways.

Even if you weren't there in person as long as we had enough of the heavily involved Dakkites (ie. the ones making the display board) then surely we could have a stand. The Pre-Heresy ones would definitely capture a sizeable crowd thanks to the new books that BL keep churning out.

I'm glad that you don't mind them being Terminators. It's only due to the fact that my local GW is offering, for £7, unlimited use of ALL of the different Terminator sprues to make a Termie hero. The opportunity to plunder GK parts, Chaos and other relevant pieces was just too good to pass up.

I'm glad that you don't mind them being Terminators. It's only due to the fact that my local GW is offering, for £7, unlimited use of ALL of the different Terminator sprues to make a Termie hero. The opportunity to plunder GK parts, Chaos and other relevant pieces was just too good to pass up.

Here is my World Eater for the conclave. Let me know if you have any suggestions or it needs any alterations.
It should come off the base easily enough if there are to be specific bases.

I'll be acquiring the two termies tomorrow, smurfwedge, so expect some pics on Sunday.

We going to go for a 40mm base with a 25mm drop in which will allow people to base their own mini and drop it into the 40mm base

If you are still up to paint the bases your could do the 40mm ones for us

Nah dont stress mate you can submit normal marine armour but just paint the legion colours

Well, I had a good day today building this guy. The Pre-Heresy Word Bearer.

Very nice, needs a Tome or Book or something, and a Bolter hanging down from a sling or something to bring it together.

Don't worry I'll be sure to add it. He's still missing an arm which will have a book attached to it as well as an Apothecarion drill/saw.

Just an update from the previous Conclave auction

The winner has paid for the auction

So after ebay fees and paypal fees were paid the total came to £65 raised and the charity chosen by the winner was Doctors Without Borders
I will be putting the donation through in the next couple of days

Good job all

If they are all done by september I'm willing to take them upto Games Day. Other dakkaites can help. If we got it done in time, armies on parade could be an option.

Ok just an update on the previous conclave amount raised

The £65 has gone throught to Doctors Without Borders and as I am a UK Taxpayer I can give giftaid which adds £18 to the total

Ok I need some opinions on what to do.

I wondering which mark of armour I should use to make all the characters I will be submiting and which type of bolter ?

I have decided on using the command squad to get the parts needed for Talos and Little Horus Aximand but What should I use for Lucius and Kharn ?

Looks like Techie is indeed going to be iron hands. Blood angel is mid build, need to strip a mk6 backpack, also using SG legs, a BT torso, and bolter from the fw promo mk3 guy. Pics soon!

Just to let evryone know the parts for the Valkyrie kit ahve finished machining so we're looking to crack on with the masters for the display bases for here! One thing is, I noticed Gathering Storm is doing terminators which come on 40mm bases, so the question is do me and Ed make:

a) 25mm and 40mm surrounds, with everything scaled accordingly so that they can be allocated to the entries accordingly
b) 40mm surrounds only to give people a bit more space to pretty up the bases their power armoured marines are on by mounting them on 40mm bases. Obviously a problem in game terms but I would have thought whoever wins would just put the marines on display?

Let us know what people think and we'll get making. As we'll be casting the bases up, there will need to be space between the closing of the entries and the auction to give us time to get them to smurfwedge and [so]rice

I reckon option a) as I dont think we will have that many Termies to be honest and I can just let Harry know how many 40mm there needs to be

I think option (a) sounds good but I am planning on doing true scale marines. I will probably need 40mm bases for my two marines.

My 1st Base coat on the Lunar Wolf. Needs neatening up and a some highlighting/ shading Final detailing. But at least at the halfway stage it is starting to look like what I want.

BA captain and Iron Hand techmarine both built - some sort of progress! Should we be basing them or what? Terribly confused?

I have mine on a standard (small) base so I prefer option a. But if 'm out voted I do have a few scenic 40mm bases left so its not a complete loss.

I've set up files ready for 25 and 40mm bases which we'll be making this week (off camping with our girlfriends at the mo ) so we'll make both then cast a bunch up when we know how many we'll need.

Ok. What I've done, for now, is mounted them so they're readily removable from current basing.

I've got the Word Bearer finished. I still need to start work on the Pre-Heresy Thousand Son though. If I can, I'll post a pic tomorrow.

The bases being supplied will be drop in bases to fit 25mm or 40mm standard bases that have been based already by the contributor (you)
