Author's Note: You'll find alot of fluff-oriented passion within these first initial posts, as well as a few creative attempts. But, if your here for the centerpiece, the Dakka Rok, you'll need to scroll down...
Hey Dakka! I've spent the last month or so polishing off my 40k collection in an attempt to rejoin my gaming circles fray. I was always focused on the bigger, fluffier picture of our battles, so building a better battlefield was always part of my priority. With all the easily accessible GW terrain out there, an abundance of spare bits, and a lil epic-aspiring creativity I set out to build 6 or 7 pieces for our 6x4 gaming table. I wanted a general theme, and as I started work on the first two pieces I envisioned the world of Armageddon.
I know its been done. Played-out maybe? But, it spoke to me. My local gaming circle includes Nids, Chaos, Black Templar, and Orks - hoping to see a Space elf player soon! I chose to build a ravaged desertland, ripe with ruined war-factories and bloodied by recent battles. The attrition of conflict would surely be present in the form of littered bodies, severed limbs, abandoned weaponry, and destroyed mecha.
Here is my beginning:
Ruined Manufactorum: On a base, the natural slopes and rock formation in the rear provide almost 270 degrees of cover. Notice the burrowed hole ontop of the rear plateau. Expect to see something alien or tradegic appearing there!
Contested Crossroads: A large area piece, only the middle or road portion of the terrain presents an open LOS down the table. Astartes gear litters the scene. Note the downed Landspeeder that had an unfortunate run in with a rock pillar and the turret-mounted Plasma Cannon against the makeshift bunker.
Back to work! I have some great ideas for a few other pieces. Don't mind my newbness either! Im not the best painter, but I try to bring my visions to life. Still on the fence about flocking the bases with sand. Theres something about the bright bleached bone ground that gives in a cartoony contrast with the more gothic structures!

I have been diligently working on my Armageddon battlefield terrain I've ordered almost 200 dollars in orky bits to deck out half of my newest pieces, one of which will is the massive Ork HQ piece featured below. A small Ork Rok has crashed into a large sweeping desert road, and the green tide spills onward. The Rok will/is removable from te piece and will feature many stompa pieces, battlewagon bits, and trukk parts. The piece currently measures 24" x 24" approx and roughly 18" tall!

Ork Rok: The Rok is over 19in tall. It features 4 separate levels (as far as CoD would classify), and each level has multiple access points connecting to the base of the terrain. Bits will soon be covering this in the next 72 hours. Like the terrain, it is constructed out of blue foam merging with a dremmel, as well as numerous coats of paint. Flocking also lies in its future

This piece is a sweeping rock formatiom that rises 3 levels. The interesting thing about it is unlike most multi-level terrain, a vehicle (albeit after a difficult terrain test) can ascend to the third level. I'm working on an optional bridge system between this and a few other pieces. The underside of the rock formation is bursting with burrowing nid monstrosities, and a Factory World looking tunnel entrance seems to have been the untimrly doorway to a Smurfs doom! A WIP, I look to touch up the detailed items, flock, and maybe smooth the hill a lil!

Work on getting some shots of the above. It will be getting some major updating as I refine my techniques here!
Last edition to the Battlefield is another three level piece. This one forms a bridging piece between the ork hq, nid hill, and some other things in the works. Ideally, the terrain+bridge pieces will be shiftable enough to set the table a few ways. Ive played on all the pieces except the ork hq. Got a game on Sunday well see how that goes! Anyways, this piece will have another Manufactor-esque tunnel/mine-like entrance on one end. It has a shaft going to the top floor ( you can actually see down the manhole soon to have GW ladder in place). The rock formation on the top is interesting, and it will soon see a representation of the Nids, Orks, and SM battling it out. The terrain will have a Mechanium-overrun-by-ork-but-contested-junction feel to it!

I will be spending alot of time decking out the other four not massive Ork HQ pieces, too. You can see how some of my techniques have changed/grown in the last month. I'm super amped to get em all polished off. My last step will be a 4'x8' game board felted in the same color shade as the flocked/based/washed/drybrushed "sand"! Automatically Appended Next Post: Wanna give an advanced shout out to a few of the Ebay suppliers that provided me with some awesome deals on bitz and boxed sets for this/future projects:
Wizard Games: Red Dragon Store
Hoard O Bits
Destroyer3: West Coast Comics
Now back to the sweat shop...

Now this took a lil work! Here we have one Ork Flag for the purpose of either a) drapping from a horizontal Manufactorum pipe runing from the high pillar atop the rock, or b) hanging from the barrel of an Ork Stompa Arm Gun on a swivel base located in the same area... If only I could find that gun arm... This flag will soon be accented with charcoal ashe around he edges to add reentry weathering! Automatically Appended Next Post: Just to clarify for anyone wandering, the dimensions on that flag are 3 1/2in by 5in (not including the loops for mounting )! It'll make for a perfect fit on either the piping, the stompa arm, or if I find another suitable destructive canidate in the next few days... well, that!

Its been a hectic week, but progress continues on the Armageddon-esque battlefield with Rok Landing Site/Ork HQ my current focus. I'm swimming up to my ears in almost 200 dollars of Orky bits to bedazzle the Rok including but not limited to: Stompa Face Plate, Stompa Gun Arm, Multiple Boarding planks, grabba claws, all kinds of glyphs, and a number of boys/nobz to represent the greentide. I've been painting my way through the bits, but I needed to finish, 100%, the flocking/washing/drybrushing of both the terrain base and modular Rok. With my work schedule, I hardly felt the 48 hours of downtime while the PVA soaked up the litter and play sand
Here are some shots of the Landing site, full flocked and sealed, with its coat of wash. All thats left is drybrushing woohoo. The Rok is about ready to recieve its sealing coat of PVA now!
On a side note, the Rok has been entered into the Ork Vehicle Building Competition. More on that later!

Landing Site/HQ Base complete! All thats left is the detailing pieces, but most of those will be on the actual Rok! I can't wait to apply the flocking technique to the other four pieces once this beast of a project is finished! I added a few of my personal Blood Angels to show a scale of just how massive this terrain is! Onward!

Alright, the Rok and Base are both complete! Now, the real fun begins. Turning one multi-level chunk of Rok into a venerable Orkish space seige vehicle! Still painting the Stompa faceplate, but I threw it on there to contribute to the ending vision. Thoughts, feelings, comments on this?

Huge Update: It's the weekend finally, and I've gotten a huge amount of bits in throughout the week. I also got my own wonderous Waagh vision and decided the Rok needed a major change. Things just didn't fit the way I was planning. This is the first of many progress reports coming in the next few days. and I am in high gear/ fully supplied for some production. 22in Removable Ork Rok, stands just over 2 ft on it's terrain base. Excited. Lot's of detail work but the main structure is now ready

On the side: BA furioso/assualt squad, dante, flocking all other terrain pieces
The Rok is the focus as I have dropped a load into bits for it. I got...
2x Ork Truk Engines
2x Ork Truk Chasis
2x Ork Truk Bed/Walls
1x Def Dred Skorcha
2x Battlewagon Gunners
3x Grabba Claws
12x Wagon Tires
A whole mess of Stompa Icons, Hatches, and Panels
And three action-poised Greenskins for dramatic posing
Oh, and 5 different Eldar/ DE engines to compliment the thrusters
I'm rdy to go all-out!

Ocala, Florida... Unfortunately we dont even have a FLGS, hell, even a cruel, clicky local gaming spot. Orlando does it big, and so does Gainesville. I'll hit their stores every now and then for the instant gratification buy, but I havent gotten into a more tourney-ish play arena.
Couple of my childhood friends form my gaming circle, and this piece of course is a tribute HQ to one of their Ork armies. Well, felt I should make an entire world, since our terrain had always been lacking - might as well establish precedence. I need to take this to a gaming event somewhere or friggin open a collectible store just to increase the venue lol. Ahh, to dream....
I'll just keep on building. Must... stay.. focusd. Automatically Appended Next Post: It will be used for either. Its just like a six level ruin in standard. While it will have all kinds of turrets, dakka, and general orkishness, it could just be used as terrain.
NOTE: the Rok is removable! I plan to magentize it for stability, but it will remain... perhaps deepstrikeable??
It could definitely have an Apoc role though, maybe even CoD. I figure we would assess it a Points cost, and in paying that cost you would benefit from its heavy artillery, defensive claws and such, and perhaps Waagh enhancing banners amd glyphs. Structure points of course, and perhaps even a DS option as mentioned.
Just my thoughts Automatically Appended Next Post:
This positive recognition has got me working in overdrive! Thanks wargaming community!
Another big update on the way... I've build a huge orkish walkway leading from level 4 to 6 out of the truk parts. Just waiting for the newly formed upper rock parts to dry, and well be golden for gluing. Be back soon, Dakka!

Some detail work will be hitting the page today for sure. This is the first time I've ever painted anything Ork, so I'm taking all advice I can get. I will definitely need it as I get closer to painting that Waagh Banner. The different colors/tribes there will present a real challenge. I painted the first of the two major scaffolding pieces and a stompa shoulder plate used for fortifying the structure. Nothing fancy mind you, and none of the bits have been washed yet, so theres still that lil detail.
Also, the flock is sealed and dry. It's been base-coated with a medium gray, and is now soaked in a self-mxed Black Wash. It will be finished up, along with the new upper rock portions, with a blended fortress grey/light grey for a big pop. Once that goes down, given the current Florida humidity, well see that first piece of scaffolding attached.
I'm very excited..

Fantastic terrain pieces! The multi leveled areas work really well, can't wait to see them all complete!
How about adding some pipes/tubes on the outside of the Rok? It could make it look like there is an internal part to the whole contraption.
Keep it up!

Dakka Rok Blueprint
Six Floor Layout consisting of the following elements:
1st Floor: Garage
Large enough to fit an Ork Truk, this floor is a large access point. Will prolly use Bikerz parts to decorate the inside of the cavern. A door exists in the far rear (potentially used for floor to floor movement?)
2nd Floor: Siege Level
Wraps around 34 of the Rok, this floor has boarding ramps that link it to the terrain base. Will probably use glyphs, wounded/dismembered body parts, and exhausted/extra weapons and dakka to liter the walkways/walls. Would like to add some armor here. I will atleast be including another hatch/door (once again, tunnel or elevator potential here)
3rd Floor: Armory/Barracks
This large floor provides enough room for a Def Dred/Killa Kan/Dreadnought/Nob to move from either side of the Rok. Another tunnel exists as a good fit for a door or hatch. Will line the walls wilth some serious dakka/gear. Perhaps even lockers or crates of munitions. Turrets? Two ladders exist on this level. One leads to near the scaffolding parapet of the 4th Floor, and the other Leads to the other side of the 4th floor - engineering
4th Floor: Hangar/Engineering?
This area is pretty huge. A dreadknight could easily pass through here. The front face has a small plateau that connects to the Scaffolding. Opposite left a ladder wil lead to a small 5th floor platform. Opposite right, an alcove features various engineering elements and a very gubbins doorway from the Stompa set. (Elevator?) I'd like to do something special here. Perhaps add some defkoptas "docked" on the ceiling, or make it more Mek-y.
5th Floor A: Ramshackled Scaffold
Using the bits from Two Truks, and then more, this floor features a sweeping Orkish platform curing around the face of the Rok upwards to the 6th Floor. Plenty of room for character here, and you can expect to a see a few mounted turrets and general dakka.
5th Floor B: Landing Pad/Dakka Platform
I've been thinking of makeshifting a landing pad onto this platform. I think it would be Orky and cool, only perpuating the image that this main vessel acts as a carrier for the many different kinds of greenskins. Perhaps some stormboy elements here. On the flip side, I saw this awesome gretchin contolled Flak Cannon Turret from forgeworld that would look downright badass. I'm on the fence. Another cool feature os this platform.. its right next to the flag. I've thought of having goonie-esque rules that would have the flag acting as a ladder: enabling climbing. (Although it comes down to a difficult terrain test :\ )
6th Floor: Waagh Command Center
The biggest floor, many awesome things could happen here. A large platform overlooks the battlefield with a Waagh banner dead in the center. A pathway between two rocket-engine rokks leads to the command center. I've thought about littering the area with crucified bodies and other Boss elements. The control room has a removable top from a battlewagon with a Boyz operated huge Stompa gatling gun nestled on the roof. Inside the control room will be a steering mechanism, telescope (I wish), and definitely some spoils. I'm thinking a treasure chest of sorts. Directly infront of the control room is a small 40mm walkway running to the backside of both rocket rokks. Considering building maintence platforms that will run up the Roks, potential providing access to the front/back of the Rok.
Other Stuff: Got alot, and will get more, Dakka type things to cover the rest of the Rok with including: 3 Grabba Klaws, Wrecking Ball, Def Dread Skorcha, and some Nobz/Boys. Got a plan for that stuff, too.
For now, I think the wash is dry on the flock. Back to work!!! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh! Great suggestion! I need to get a Stompa Smokestack!

I'm lost without you, Dakka.
Okay, so I have a few more enhancement pieces that are about to hit the Scaffold, but for now I have my eyes set on that Waagh Banner. Its big and has bits all over it, but I ain't scared! I do need advice though. I'm very fluff friendly, and I do wrap my mind around the 40k universe when I work on any mini project. I'm a Blood Angel/Dark Angel player, dont laugh, so most my knowledge is based around the Imperium Astartes.
But this aint about humies...
I need advice and suggestions on how to paint the Waagh Banner. What colors for what glyphs, definite color for the big orky face there, and how many different clans or tribes should be included in the design on this Rok are all questions. Should we have Freebootersm, Speed Freaks, and Bad Moon in on this Waagh asteroid? Should various areas represent elements of each group? What colors!?!?!
Help me Dakka, you are my only hope. Ideas, suggestions, fluff insights all welcome!

If the rok is occupied by three different klanz then all the guns would be pointed at each other

Nice, lol. I imagined that would be the case. I know Ghaz united a good deal of clans in his Armageddon efforts, so I figured it might exist within here, but I dont want to dillute the project by covering it with fluff atrocities.
I'm a big fan of Kaptain Badrok(sp?). I think he has a super cool story and a sweet space pirate kinda look. Snikrot is cool, too, but I can highlight that lil sneak better in another piece of terrain.
I don't want to make the Rok a freebooter-esque devicem but it'd be nice to incorporate that along with some Speed Freaks/or other appropriate clan.
I need a chart explaining the different Ork glyphs. I got a hot lil transfer sheet in front of me and I'm dying to applyem!

Last update for the day...
Painted a handful of Ork tires. I still have 12 left, but this Rok aint made of rubber, so I'll be using them generously. They also make great additions to some of the other terrain ideas I have in mind, but that is in a time that the Dakka Rok ceases to consume me.
Updated the scaffold by extending the ramp from the first platform. I used a couple of tires and a tooth truk bumper to add almost an inch to the width of the catwalk. It'll alow two 28mm bases to fit generously on the platform. I want this thing to be usable... even if that means my opponent has 15 Lootas crammed on this thing while by Blood Angels dart and weave there way up! Two of the Boyz I'm working on are daredeviling off the platform, but that was just for a photo-op. Pay no attention to Space Jesus or Lemartes. They're just there for the dramatics too.
Finally, a shot of the Scaffold from underneath. Didn't want yall to think I was just painting the tops of things in battle-worn, ramshackled detail!
See ya soon, Dakka!

Something to remember is that the Waaagh!! banner is also supposed to be decorated with trophies of past kills. Might want to pop a few spare IG and SM bits on there.
Colors-wise, the Rok's probably going to be either Freebooter or Bad Moon owned, with a bunch of Dethskulls on it too. So combinations of yellow, gold, black and blue would work well. Goffs are more footsloggy than Spacey, Snakebitez come from da woods. Maybe paint some of the Rok red, for some Evil Sunz? Da red wunz go fasta, after all...
Freebooters, actually, aren't a Clan, per-say. They're all clans. Remember, there's Tribes, which is the group of Orks that fight together, then there's Klanz, the group of Orks that fight similarly, though not necessarily in the same place, or with the same Boyz. You can have multiple Klanz in a single Tribe, because the Klanz aren't hard and fast groups, just ways of being Orky.

I've just read through the entire blog. That is one friggin' awesome project you have there. I've never seen something like this done before, it completly blows my mind.
The rock would be a pretty cool piece all by itself but it gains so much more character with all the orky bitz. I love the scaffolding made from truck parts!
To add some constructive criticism: While it does look like an Ork base carved out of a rock, it doesn't exactly look like a rok. The engines on top helped a lot with that, but there's one thing that's really bugging me. They are too many holes in it. Even Orks (probably) can't breathe in space or at least would try to keep it ou anyway. If you could add things like a Garage door on the lowest level, that would really help imo.
But apart from that, that is some fantastic modeling. Please continue.

I will definitely be adding some Orkish structure to fill in some of the gaps. That Garage, for example, will feature a large, tooth boarding ramp door that fullly functions.
Expect major Dakka updates coming in the next few days..

So I was browsing the web looking for various forms of inspiration for the Rok....
I came across alot of different things, mostly smaller scale like 40k Epic, but I found this one image and it made me think. I'd never knock anyone for their will to create, but I have set one standard that I am desparately trying to maintain.
"I will use ONLY GW (or Forgeworld) Bits to create all that exists on this Rok and other Terrain"
I know plasticard does amazing wonders.... But I just cant do it! The look and feel of GW stuff, well, it Roks! I know Orky is Orky, but I want this thing to be made from grade a pieces. In a effort to continue this pledge I have ordered:
5x Truk Beds, Walls, etc
12x Truk Boarding Ramps
2x Stompa Armor Shoulder/Doors/Hatches
9x Truk Front panel and bumper (used as the ramp pieces starting from Scaffold 1 to 2)
Xx An assortment of lil Orky bits

The trick is to practice with plasticard until you can equal or better the GW/ FW stuff At that point, there is no limit to what you can create! I do get what you mean though - I have a preference for the GW stuff myself - but eventually it does start to limit you (admittantly, it has taken 5 Trukks to even start to get to that point for me...)

Its the Weekend!!!!
Time to hit the grindstone and start making some Dakka Dreams come true. I have a few solid goals for the weekend including:
-Completing the 'Nid hill and Manufactorum pieces
-Painting a whole slew of Orky Tires (12 lol)
-Installing the first round of Boarding ramps on the Siege level
-Painting the Piping/Engines/Truk Engines (Really procrastinating on this for some reason)
-Painting the Waagh Banner
-If I'm Lucky: Some BA Furiosos!
-If I'm realllly Lucky: My next round of Orky platforms will arrive today!
So, I have another idea for the Rok. Kustom Force Fields. An Apoplyptic creation like this would be sporting some form of defense mechanisms. Orks can't breathe in the vaccuum of space. Would a slew of KFFs encase the Rok in a protective bubble, thus solving this problem? Just a thought.
Alright, time to grind

Hello Dakka. I've missed it here. I've been working on a few nightly projects as bits have been coming in, and today, with pride, I can say everything is at full steam again. Discovered awesome lil thing called earth magnets too. Well, on with the Update:
Warboss Balcony/Waagh Inspiration: This new scaffolding platform will rest on the remote fifth level near the Ork flag. A super ork chamber door will lead from the center rock to this platform. It obviously could be some form of trukkish, Kult of Speed type Bossyness, but I will definitely show the Goffs. I think of Wazdakka and Nob Bikerz, or even a Warboss on da bike, but then there's Gazghkull. I want this Rok to have been potential home to great leaders. This would be where they met, or perhaps a boss would come for reflection and inspiration of Mork and Gork. For beneath him, churns the beatiful sound of Dakka.
Killy Cannon (ie Vulcan dakkagun thing): Attached beath the small fifth level Rok platform is well-ramshackled metalwork connected to a big gun. Magnetized even. I discovered earth magnets in my effort to make this gun movable. It worked, and its lovely. I love the mobility. Maybe I can finally paint it now I got a proper home. This thing will see down field and rotate 270 to the front of the Rok. Also, a warboss standng above this cannon is blessed with major Waagh vibes!
Lastly, the favorite (of mine)...
The Garage Siege-gate: So the bottom of this tall bastich needed some structuring and some love. I wanted a ramp, or gate, to make things assaultish with the Rok. They crashed, there coming to give you hell. Started with a few sets of ramps from a Truk kit, and well, you see. Its massive. Its awesome. It full moves, and the garage space now has room, with the ramp for a full squad of 10 Nob Bikerz. Lol. Or possibly a Wagon?
Back to the grind!

Level 4 is turning out nicely. Im happy with the way the gun turned out and the magentizing process. I built another contraption to cover the hanging gun platform... and it's a platform. Well, more so one of a Big Mek's creations primarly defending the area atm, but it does ramp to the fifth level Warboss area.
Back to the grind. Im experiencing a persoal Waagh vision!

Typical fanatical imperial commander marooned on his garrison in the armageddon system... all crazy and mad with mecha power. Yep, I'll box with that!
Unfortunately, your admech would prolly rock my DoA or Mech Hybrid. But, itd make for a good fight throuigh an apocolyptic wasteland.
Speaking of IG.... I definitely want to include some guard bits on this thing. Definitely some fallen corpses or destroyed vehicles. Any ideas? Ive been thinking of just getting a box of cadians and chopping em up!

Corpse-wise, grab some bitz and go. Posting them dead is a challenge, but not TOO hard.
Vehicles are a bit harder. Look for some beat-up stuff on eBay, but people tend to snap that up to salvage, or make terrain out of.
I don't have a full admech force, just an adviser stand-in for my Primaris Psyker.

Just read over your recent battle report. It would be a good match. I prefer a half mech/half jumpy hybrid with a lil Sanguinor and Mephiston. It'd be a slug fest.
I just visited the Rok in the workshop. Its freakishly hard not to stare at. You could spend an entire game battling around and through its levels. Kinda want to write a few missions involving it..... Hrmm, I might hafta take it on a road trip to Sci-fi city Orlando.
I did some searching. Looks like I'll pick up a cadian command squad to hack up. Decent bits there.
Any thoughts/feelings/comments about the direction this is taking? I think I've finally mustered the courage to paint the Waagh banner, and I still have 3 or 4 trukk beds and a slew of parts. Started piecing together a large rectangular boarding ramp/wall to connect from level 3 to the raised highway. I'll be getting some more Dakka bits, possibly a FW supa killcannon to mount on this bizzle. Cant wait to get those battlewagon parts for the top floor....

My only comment is to continue the path. You have an interesting table, with Roks that have been converted to an Ork Fortress. Consider some large bridges between Rok towers, debris piles (with some ded Orks), and maybe a scavenger pile, where the Meks go to find bitz, and random loot is dropped off. Great use for any leftover/dead vehicle bits.
Also, go to bed.

That Rok makes me want to have your kids.
as for the KFF thing you mentioned. If enough of da boyz think it will work, than by gork it works! (and trust me on this one, every last greenskin on that rok believes the KFFs keep the air in.)

The kind words go a long way to vitalize my inspiration. My Waagh grows exponentially! I have never painted an Ork, nor field an Ork army. Ive fought them consistently for the last few years, and have always appreciated their style/fluff.
My next big piece for this is a Monastery fortress Automatically Appended Next Post: It should be noted that the bulk of their "technology" is so incredibly crude that its ability to function would apparently contravene not only common sense but the laws of physics as well; a given shoota is, more than likely, literally slapped together out of scrap metal, leaving it by rights incapable of firing. That it works at all is testament to the power of the Ork Waaagh!, as it's peculiar psychic field allows them to bypass the physical impossibilities that would ordinarily render their gear useless or broken, simply via belief. Within limits, if an Ork believes a particular gun is working and pulls the trigger, it will fire. Although this doesn't mean that anything will do, and Mekboys create what conceptually might be relatively close to their intended weapon or wargear. The power of the Waaagh! gives the item that extra push it needs to operate. Mekboys are therefore critical to the maintenance of Ork technology not only physically, but psychically as well, as they can instill sufficient credibility in the Waaaagh! regarding a given device to get it actually working.
A related version of this system is why "da red wunz go fasta".
Taken from Lexicanum.com...
Seems you were right on the money there. If they believe the KFF works, it friggin works. I'm falling for these whacky lil greenskins...

Okay, I got my next platforming door built, and a slew of other bits I wanna throw some colors on. Heres a shot of whats in the painting que including: the dreaded waagh banner, a mess of tires, grabba klaw, and the level 3 Nob boarding hatch!
Notice the wip Furioso with real-life magna grapple. One day my BA will get a lil attention, but first... the Dakka Rok!!

Hello Dakka! I'm very happy with the Rok progress this weekend. I'm nearly done painting about half of my bits in que including the boarding ramp/wall panel for Level 3. It is looking super awesome!
I have a few ideas up in the air for some dakka. The Rok is coming along nicely, but it definitely needs LOADS of firepower. I'm currently considering the three pieces below from Forgeworld. The Flakgun and Supa cannon are just beefy Dakka, but the grot bomb I have special ideas in mind. I imagine two or three grabba claws on coming off the engine rocks, and hanging from each clawi? Yep grot bombs.

SUPER KANNONS FOR THE WIN!!!!!
i have been craving those super kannon models for months now, they are just so awesome!
that said i think a mixture of super kannons and flakka gunz would be epic, beecause flakkagunz are good anti infantary and anti air but against tanks are rubbish where as super kannons are great against tanks but are terrible with anti air power so ????
if you only get to choose 1 take the flakkagun, if you can have more then one then get ones of each.
hope this helps

So, before I can answer, let me ask you something.
Is this Rok a "just 'landed'" scenario, or a 'it has been a few months, and this is now a fortress' scenario? It matters.

At first I thought you were going to have the dread hanging off of the rok, like it grabbed on in the last fight and has just been hanging on for dear life. I'm still hoping that's what you'll do... great work.

Now, the Rok will have APOC deepstrike rules, so Id like to think its more recently than that!

hmmm grot bomms held by grabbers could be cool but make sure you have at least one grabber that has sqweezed too tight and destroyed the grot bomm in its claw and is now burnt and broke?
(not a super fan of those grot bomm models though tbh)

Lol thanks Bigfish. I do appreciate you swinging by here too. I've checked out your Orkish WIPs and I am a fan. I'll quit being such a noob and head that way to give my praise.
You too, Silver! Exceptional work!
I'm going to go put the finishing touches on those bits now that I'm home for work. I'll upload some shots of the new Rok, along with my idea for the Dakka.
I'll definitely be getting both guns. And will probably do magnetized fire platforms on the top on each side of the waagh banner. That'll leave the pieces interchangeable and in a fluffy firing position ( ie an AA weapon shouldnt be blocked out by a asteroid ceiling). That's a go.
Grot bombs in the klaws. I do like the damaged idea, but I also think the model will be weak as far as FW goes. I mean, its costing me like 12.00 dollars. I can alot of different dakkas for that (like more battlewagon gunners!)
Hmm, def getting the supa cannon and flak gone ordered tommorrow. I got the battlewagon bits on the way to hold me over! Automatically Appended Next Post: Lol @ Good Green. Hah. I'm thinking about going on ebay and just typing in "40k broken" so I can do things like that. The crashed landspeeder was just from having a Ravenwing army ten years ago!

UPDATES: Defensive/Siege ramp complete! Now with more Orky bits included!
Waaaaagh!
Ok, so the siege ramp/armor for level 3 is complete! I painted a few other Orky bits along the way to push through this sea of GW plastics that need to hit this Rok. The more I put into, the more I wanna do. It is truly a vaccuum in my life lol.
More to come, but I'll take your opinions now!

Post by: bmosleysbux
Ok, I'm also taking a look at these three other items. Gimme your thoughts, Dakka!
The gretchin are going to be an inevitable must have. There should be riggers all over this thing fluff wise. The cannon, just looks super awesome, and would be the final compliment to the heavy firepower. The gun set will be to provide an armory to level 2/3, and add turrets to other areas. Might need two of those.
As for heavy dakka goes, the final look I'm thinking:
Stompa Gattlin' Gun, Zzap Gun (battlewagon version atop command room), Kilcannon mounted opposite side of rok than the gatlin gun (by the lil engineering door), Supacannon (on top by banner), and Flak gun (other side of waagh banner on top). Thinking of adding the battlewagon version of the kilcannon to the Mek deff guardian.
Thoughts?
Oh and possibly the grot bombs.
Is that dakka enough?

'memba, don't just have them all going one direction. It's a chunk of space debris, not a tank or walker, so it doesn't have a 'front'.

Post by: bmosleysbux
I'm working on a few bits right now. Well, alot of bits actually. The side with the flag is about to get a lil attention. Don't worry! I definitely have a gameplan for getting this thing equally equipped. Logically, even by orks, the flag side would be the front while drifting through space, while the side with the garage and scaffold would be the rear, yet a more logical deployment front post-landing (well, defensively while travelling through the cosmos too)
I plan to put two wrecking balls about even level right above the grabba klaws. Travelling past this area on the road will be straight trouble.... I've imagined a Race mission where one unit, selected by the player, will win the game by complteing a track across the board. A separate roll will be made by each player. The winner will recieve a scout move. Imagine the awesomeness.
I have a vision
So, I'm off for the next two days. Expect alot of detail to be added. I have the orkish bits/boyz/nobz/sm corpses sitting around, and since I'm waiting on the battlewagon bitz for the next phase, I'm gonna work on what I've been avoiding!
Sorry, Blood Angels, the people want more Dakka!

I've been a busy hobbyist this past day. I've finally tackled the Waagh banner, but I've painted my first round of orkish henchmen to habitate, dwell, and defend the rok. I'm calling them Rokboyz, and they'll be coming to a blog near you!

BIG UPDATE! It's group photo time. It's time to get a live vision of this battlefield thus far!
I covered the table with a tan fabric to suffce for the meantime. The Rok stands as the most 'completed' piece of terrain, and you can see the other pieces are at different phases in their progress. The final table will be 4x6, with two foot optional leaves, but I wanted to collect everything together to see how its looking. You'll also find a sea of Blood Angels swarming across the field. In an effort to make a base for a furioso I'm working on the side, I needed to replicated the bluefoam/flock method I used for the Rok crash site. It inspired me to make a blog for my WIP BAs.
I have a few things to work on, well, a ton as you can see. I'm almost done with the waagh banner, and I think youll like where I go with it. Yup, also those Rokboyz are nearing completion. 'Ere we go!

Shots of the Waagh Banner!
The SM is done as far as I'm concerend. Maybe a lil blue highlights on the armor, but otherwise, done!
For the record, NONE of the bits on this WIP have been washed with the exception of the Ork skin. I've been a lil wary of doing the washing process... but I think it's almost time to start implementing it over the parts already complete. Anyways... the Waagh banner is finished! With the exception of an Eldar trophy head and a few orky shoulder pads used as straps for the SM....
So here we are, some shots. I'm waiting to attach/magentize it to the Rok. I have to paint a railing and a few Truk wall pieces to line the upper level around the Banner, so well get that group shot later tonight or tommorrow... Now.. for the banner!

I would highly recommend magnets. It would be an awesome detachable piece of terrain to have for smaller battles.
Also, watch out for camera shake! Try sticking your elbow on something and not just levitating the camera, should help.

Ive been meaning to ask for advice regadring photographing minis. When I use flash everything seems gloss, glared, and doesnt show the natural shadows. When I dont use flash everything is so dark! It drives me crazy. I want the detail to be seen!

set up your camara so it is still then if you light the scene with a lamp or something you wont get shake and you can change how light or dark it is easyer then using flash. hope this helps

Bottom line: Never use flash. Instead change the lighting with other elements?

Post by: Sam__theRelentless
Pretty much. How advanced is your camera? On most cameras these days, you should be able to tweak the exposure and colour balance settings. My advice, play around, and post up only when you're happy. The best way to learn is explore, try changing different settings gradually such as those I've mentioned. If you're going to take lots of pictures of minis, I'd recommend investing in a tripod... They are insane when it comes to taking close-ups, and will be infinitely helpful in avoiding camera shake.

Finally getting some work done again! Having tommorrow off, and most the weekend, is a real blessing. I threw all kinds of paint on some armoring, detail, rokboyz bits and I'm happy with the result.
I have a Waagh vision once more! Expect to see this Dakka.
And after doing that BA base, knowing I can replicate the flocked surface, well, I will be finishing the full coat on the rest of the terrain. More bits will be added to these smaller pieces, but za flock will be final!

I'll also be taking those camera suggestions to heart so....
