That is correct, for my orks, I scratch built a Trukk/Half-trakk but this time i am going to go really nuts and make a full grown (well for Apocalypes and such) Fighta Bomma from a few spare bits and a lot of plasti-card and wot-nots! I present for you all the basic concept of the Sn-87(Coz the concpets 1-86 all crashed, or blew up!) "Snukka Dive Bomma!
[/img]
At least that is the basic design concept, whether it looks exactly like that or something else is all based on how the inner Big Mek in me decides to take things! But at least i will make it look different, and it will not be a simple 1/48scale model kit bash as I have not the cash to get a model aircraft for such a project.
have you looked at klaus blog here? he made a flyer once that has on some parts some sharded features... i like the concept... the bent wing thing will look really good! the nose looks cool...what i would built up a bit more is the bottom (?) as there seemingly nothing happens... at least a turret like the flying fortresses of WWII would be nice to add...or baybe two...as there is never enough dakka^^
one hint... for the engine exhausts i have collected this for my own uses one far away day:
the shape and the details make it for me very jet like looking...
also those caps for dishwashingbottles shown here have lots of possibilities for your cause:
with this you definatly take the major amount of thread following on my acount^^
Oh I do intend to simply use that as the basis of the machine, as i said, I doubt the plane will stay exactly as drawn, and then that flying machine will make my Orks a true terror on the battle tables!
ok, i see now this is going to be a big model...what was the deatstrike missle for? will this be a feature of the bomma? or something else brewing in your mind?^^
That is a IG codex weapon
D3+3inch radius for the blast, making the template 8-12inches across, and the full strength against anything it has under that template!
Yes, the Snuka will be a full sized fighta-dive-Bomma
This model will likely be nearly 2ft long! the nose and tail have yet to go on! I may make holes for the wings, which will have tubes for them to slide into the fuselage sections
Here are the progress pics so far for today
[/img]
well i find that rather difficult to comment at this time...seeing how painstackenly you assembled the perun from scratch so to speak and then comparing your work with the "snukka"...i see that the concept is quite a challenging thing to make real, for now it looks pretty crude...wich is of course ork trademark number one...so i have to rest my feet to wait for further developments as this is merely the begining of a very interresting voyage...

and you as our tour guide will show us the way^^
cheers, vik
I am literally applying bitz together as if I were an Ork Big Mek for this one as opposed to the Adeptus Mechanicus who painstakingly worked on every nut and bolt, made by hand! Oh yeah, the orky plane will also have rivets! The Snukka is to truly have that ramshackly feel to it that many Ork constructs have, but it holds together just because Orks believe it will!
tough n' orky wrote:looks rather big... but is orky. WAAAAAAAAGH
sorry...
Of course, it';s a fighta bomma, not a fighta.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and there4 is plenty of Dakka bitz planned for this plane, I have spare Big Shootas and loota weapopns for it!
i command thee to use square rivets for this here...this would look stunning even more^^
as for big mek style on building... i think this suits the model... if you catch the spirit it should look like then the easiest (kind of^^) way is to built it like how the faction would do it...so don´t forget to eat a squigg now and then^^
I had been out, so did not get new work done on it today, sad I know. But I may do some work as I watch some of the last parts of Lexx. Got ideas and some caps for the engine afta-burnas!
i guess that goes with the creative hobby...it is nothing like being a king or policemen... being creative you don´t get free time... you´re always on shift ...always you have to wear the helmet...
You going for a solid hull construction, or will there be some interior details available ?
Sadly, I have not enoughdecent bitz to make a good interior, I was going to use solid plastic painted blue for the windshields.
Viktor von Domm wrote:hmmm that would be a nice addition....at least the cockpit and the turrets...that would be nice...some grotz behind some big dakka
windshields are optional with grotz anyway^^
Oh I wish I could make that decent interior, I make have the turret set up to swivel though. At least then I would have some moving parts!
tough n' orky wrote:mayhaps have the glass broken and have an ork poking out or have one on top...
I may make a hapless rigger trying not to get sent flying away hanging on for his life.
ok i see... no bitz no innards...sad but true...but we do create like hollywood...all front...sometimes i have to say this mantra to myself... it doesn´t have to work... merely just look as if^^...
monkeytroll wrote:No worries, that's a good option for a faster build anyway I was just wondering if the spacers were going to help represent interior partions is all
Had I some cocpit ;like bitz, I would definitely have made a sloppy Ork like one for sure.
Viktor von Domm wrote:ok i see... no bitz no innards...sad but true...but we do create like hollywood...all front...sometimes i have to say this mantra to myself... it doesn´t have to work... merely just look as if^^...
Yes. it just has to look like it will work, that is how the orks do it.

is this the lower side upwards or the upperside upwards we see now? the frontpiece is for stabilizing the peak when making the shape? (sorry crude english here^^)
Viktor von Domm wrote:is this the lower side upwards or the upperside upwards we see now? the frontpiece is for stabilizing the peak when making the shape? (sorry crude english here^^)
Oh the open side is the top of the plane.
prototype_X wrote:i have two questions
one, would you be offended if i looted that idea?
two, wha thickness plasicard are you using?
Using several thicknesses, it would be the mod to thick stuff, not sure of the exact measures. But yeah, make it any way or variation ya like!
Oh, you had to go and post a pic didn't you? That had me searching for models on the interwebz, going to be a long search, those things ain't cheap these days, and I know I haven't got my old one lying around anymore. Guess I'll be spending some time on e-bay soon...
Ohh, you tease you Actually, I'm pretty sure I still have my Dinky version in my parent's garage, along with other sci-fi toys, it's a kit for looting I'm after. And I'm happy to take my tiime looking for now as I haven't the pennies to spend on that for now
37 cm...well you will certainly mount it on afitting flying base, non? any ideas on that or still too early for these thoughts? i saw once a valk iirc that had smoke and oily flames to cover the rod of the flying base...
I do have a length of brass rod sitting about, more than enough so, if the plane makes it wobble, I can make the stand from more of it so it is not too high and stable.
well i am most confident that you will get it set up most secure, was rather talking about what style you will go for... by the way on what base will you mount it? a pice of wood?
Yeah, 'tis the orky ways of their paint works, something that zooms that fast even as shiny as that trailer is, would get red paint splashed and rubbed all over ion a sloppy Orky fashion, applied with great enthusiasm to be sure though!
Viktor von Domm wrote:seems we need a full army shot of your orks one of these days...
That is almost 7k of Orks to pose and make sure they all sit still for the pics Vik! I am sure that you have had to try to make you kid sit for a photo at some point!
Viktor von Domm wrote:aha....i just bet that this will get pretty impressive...
caps for turrets...have you considerd using golfballs too? halved ones...
it is taking up shape as you move along, this now ressembles something airplane like at least^^
have you thought about how amny crewmembers this bomma will need for operating?
Considering the size of the cockpit area, I awill make it a tandem cockpit for a pilot/bombardier/radioman, and the turret for the defensive gunner, a three man plane like many WWII aircraft of this type were.
Viktor von Domm wrote:lol....what was your learned profession then again? by the way, whats with your exams again? got some results?
LOL! Obsession/hobby of my youth, devouring info of WWII as well as the collection of the models of their machines with the data fax that came with said models.
My scores are back up to where they were last time, still needs improvement though!
does this mean you have to make the tests again? bugger...
i met quite some peeps that are still interrested in WWII it seems, quite a big lobby out there...the things my own granddad told me were quite raising the back of my neck so i wasn´t that enthusiastic about it then... but i can see after viewing moves and the likes that the time has appeal... some games i´ve played run in that time line...and rolepolaying in that area is quite interresting... also it was the last time in warhistory wrer marksmanship was to be your main talent and not computer know how...later on the pc war won over...
and no gamevids when bombing half a nation into stoneage...back then at least they knew wjhat they did...that changed with hiroshima and nagasaki...read one an interview of one of the bombers from them... they never really understood what they did...bet the helifighters in nam knew what they did...afterwards they had to cope for what was done in the fields...

True, Helicopters do get closer to their targets, as did fighter-bombers of WWII, when they had to strafe targets fairly close(Like the helis), The bigger bomvbers dropped from high altitude, so they did not see up close the damage.
KingCracker wrote:Every time I come here, I see more progress. But Im getting impatient, WEZ WANT TA SEE DA BOMMA DROPIN SUM BOMMS!
Hey! I gotta add da wings and such first, but once I use it in an Apoc game, I will make sure to use the camera and show the carnage!
I now have to see a Fighta-Bomba that flys on a carpet of Dakka, like a Lead Hovercraft. Oh, wait a second, I might have an image for that!
Dangit, I can't find it! But it's of a bomber in WWII that was modified so that its bomb bay was filled with machine guns pointing down. They were rigged to all be fired at the same time.
orks with a long time strategy? sounds a bit like heresy if orks would bother about such things...if it works and clobbers humies into a bloody pulp it is good enough^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:orks with a long time strategy? sounds a bit like heresy if orks would bother about such things...if it works and clobbers humies into a bloody pulp it is good enough^^
The beauty of Blood Axe Kunnin' the humies never expect such thinking from Orks!
Again, cramming for tests for Math final is taking me away from my loverly aircraft! sorry folks! I will however have more to view as soon as the "crisis" is over
Thanks guys, more practice tests to run through as well as making this weeks school projects to hopefully get a passing grade. Then I can get back to the turret, the intakes and wing roots! Oh yes, and the engines and tail!
by the way... our holiday trip clock is ticking away...come saturay... so i only can focus my thoughts for wishing you good luck and all the talents you might need...
Now, with some of the right scraps and bits, especially from loota weapons, I will be able to make the turret! and the biggest hurdle is the Afta-burnas!
Okay all you fighta-bomma luvvas out there, I promised more work to be done and here is what I got so far!
Da Turret starteing to take shape.
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
Da Turret built up and mounted on da Fighta-bomma(it can come off for travel) but appears to have that high appearance like an old turret from WW-II.
[/img]
Like most of my weapon mounts I make with tube stock, this also can elevate/depress the guns.
[/img]
[/img]
Depressing, but I may have to make a limiter under the weapon so it does not accidentally shoot da engines!
[/img]
Then I made deeply mounted wing roots for the reverse gull wings, (no worries, they got snipped back some so that I could have that wicked angle)
[/img]
[/img]
The wings have been started, and are not yet finished. There will be angles for the wings.
[/img]
Here, you see the down dip of the wings, and the engine intake strakes.
[/img]
Earlier pic of the strakes for the air intake.Black paint will do wonders, and then maybe silvering the edges of the stakes.
[/img]
Will be getting back to it soon. Been cleaning my desk slowly had to pass the math course, and have been distracted. More updates will be coming, no worries.
