when I was in 5th grade I had a teacher that hated warhammer after i showed him some of my stuff. He claimed it was EVIL and that children should not play with demonic toys!

Worst teacher ever!!!!!!!

Depends what you showed him. If you showed him a daemon, then he may have a point...

I had a teacher who confiscated my copy of Dune by Frank Herbert because he thought it was a horror book by James Herbert

Protip, dont show people daemons when explaining 40k. Guard, Orks, Space Marines and Eldar are good to start.

I don't have demons i only do Blood Angels and space marines. I showed him my SM captain(the one from black reach) and i told him no background except that they were the defenders of the imperium and that they own everything.

I was made fun of my space marines for years at my schools because the idiot teenagers thought a purity seal was something found only on males.
Then later on they found out that space marines are sterile. That shut them up for good. They are idiots in this manner.

Anyway I showed my teacher this in 4th grade believing the space marines nothing but zealots and the many other groups slaughterers of life and got the school to ban all hobby materials in the entire school because people brought in magazines from white dwarf.

If I remember correctly, at some point here a poster - I don't remember whom - had their Codex Daemons found by their grandparents, and came home to a priest, a church circle, and an attempted exorcism.

I think that was MGS, and I think it was the old Realm of Chaos books.

Apologies if not your good self Mr Stompa.

As to the OP, folks can get pretty anti anything on the wrong day, although I can think of a lot worse things to grab a torch and pitchfork over. Of course being a tabletop Roleplayer for a good while now, I have seen the odd, concerned glance from folks.

The Slaves to Darkness book.

It was a group from my gran's born again church. No priest or exorcism, just 'speaking in tongues' and trying to get the holy spirit to sway me into allowing them to burn my book.

My grandfather, wonder that he is, returned from the garage and told them to bugger off and they sheepishly left.

A blurred warhammer/dungeons and dragons scare was then the topic of her church's Sunday sermon. It was all highly annoying.

The attempted exorcism Sounds scary , and possibly illegal at the same time. Upon hearing the word Warhammer 40,000 from my older class , half the S1 group had formed large amounts of dislike for me and Warhammer after getting a brief and bad description of it from idiots that had only seen the miniatures.

I took him to on side after that lesson and told him what he had done, ruining my public gaming life

this is by and large absolutely ridiculous...

on a completely different note, our highschool had a mandatory participation in a pep rally. I walked right past the school principal along with one of the vice principals on my way out the door. I had better things to do than participate in building "school spirit". They essentially told me off and started grabbing for me when I told them off, explaining in clear detail all the nice yelling and screaming my parents would do when they found out my principal not only authorised a waste of dedicated school time but actually made me waste my time when I was going home to do chores and study. I pulled similar stunts throught my entire academic career, daring my teachers to try me on. I was a terrible kid too because I never did my work, was awful in class but was always one of the top 5 on exams.

I actually remember coming under extreme scrutiny by lunchtime.... wardens.... because of playing MTG. They banned cards and dice from the school because of gambling, and they tried nailing us too. Again, they couldn't pin us either, because the moment we produced a club membership spanning 25 players they were socked.

Back to topic....

this is absolutely nuts. That is percisely the kind of ignorance that will see the third wirld war, or the mess that the middle east is in right now. I love how after the dissolution of the soviet block, all of a sudden all was well again, and the west decided it had no obligations right then and there. Meanwhile countries in eastern europe sharply destabilise as everyone embraces "capitalism" and hoodlums run down the street with machineguns. Communists are substantively "evil", disregard that the entire catholic system is principaled off the teachings of a man who was essentially a "communist", and things magically get fixed when a country dissolves communism.... and the same crooks stay in power...

sigh...

Sorry for that......

I am a high school teacher & run a gaming club at school. Its awesome & if I was a student again I would definitely ask around to see if teachers would host a club of any sort. Our school presently has all sorts of clubs; gaming, manga, Harry Potter, & even a "Lost" club. Sure it might seem teachers would not be interested, but try it & see.

We have four teachers in the math department alone who play 40K. We also asked the planes & trains hobby store across the street to stock GW stuff & they were more than happy to help us out.

So my high school art teacher was a speaking in tongues religious nut. Weird for an art teacher, and he worked at the "state" school" for deaf and blind. (our school was small, living in Idaho, so we had to share teachers with them) One day he saw I had magic cards, said they were the work of the devil and forbid them from being in his class room, I had to leave them in the hallway.

I thought that was funny he was so religious and obtuse about such things, and I became kinda offended. Well, we had to do a class project, drawing on a full wall, mixing various art and blending them into one diorama. So my part was a Gnome, sitting on a mushroom, smoking, summoning a demon through a magical ball of energy in the middle of a forest.

I hate fanatics.

I had a really cool music teacher in highschool who was into gaming, but he didn't play Warhammer. I'm still waiting to get a Starcraft game in with him, since we've kept in contact after I graduated a few years ago. If my highschool was in a community where gaming was more popular, I'm sure he would have been happy to run a gaming group after school.

I had an interesting occurance like this. One of the churchgoers at my parents church decided he didn't like my email address. Got upset over it, like really upset. I told him why I had the email address and he denounced DnD and W40K and so forth as being demonic. He stopped listening to any arguments I put forth.

Then, I reminded him that the daughter of the minister at our church does DnD regularly, as do most of young people in the church do 40K. He went ape, screaming about how it's devil worship. So, we ended up basically embargoing his worship stuff til he apologised in front of the church.

Don't recall a great deal of "gamers" in my High School, a few kids with Dungeons and Dragons books maybe, I didn't discover gaming until I was Thirty, so the only flak I ever got in High School was over my "attitude" or my clothes...I found teachers tend to dislike "Sex Pistols" t-shirts...

As far as ever having any strange feed back pertaining to minis/war games, my Missus' Mother once picked up a deamon prince I was painting off my desk and stated " You know these sort of things invite demons into your house."
...I just laughed, shook my head and went back to painting.

I love it when people get all paranoid about wargaming and roleplaying and stuff, Its pure ignorance combined with an unhealthy inabillity to mind ones own business. Plus the fact that a wargaming hobby is pretty time consuming leaving little time for practicing the dark arts. I always say this to anyone who ridicules my hobby " So let me get this straight: I'm sad for doing warhammer right"? they generally reply in the affirmative. "I'm sad because your life is so pathetically dull and uninteresting that you feel the need to comment on my hobbies"? generally people shut up after that.

I was unfortunate enough to attend a Christian private school in the days when people (i.e.Christians) still took Jack Chick seriously.

The D&D scare had just reached British shores, at the same time as I got into miniatures wargaming.

The teachers at school actually had no problem with the hobby and saw it as a valuable creative pursuit, but some of my class mates were a little more... fanatical (if Christianity had had an arguable suicide/martyrdom clause, they'd have blown themselves up and died smiling).

My miniatures were attacked and smashed. One guy threw a space marine (RTB-01) on the flour and tried to stamp on it.

It was a valuable lesson to me in the importance of the application of intelligence to faith.

Oh dear i have to share my high school gaming experince......
So one day i was in my world history class. My history teacher who is the best history teach i have ever had, basically looked at the clock and said. "Okay kiddos, this is the last day of class and I have to say somethings about everyone here and the hobbies that everyone should consider.... You guys ready OKAY! So basically if you haven't heard but I am major nerd, well you know a heavy weight lifting champion nerd who likes to play historical wargames and all those interesting video games like fallout 3 and fallout new vegas it touches my heart to know kids still play wargames. Though there are only 4 wargamers in this room. *me and my friends starting wooting* Yeeaaahhhh. Its good to be acknowledging the fact your a nerd but wargamers you may want to keep it to cultist activities from now on. But knowing the blonde Australian student i have there he will probably ignore me and continue to do so because he just doesn't care what the social media thinks of him."

Hehehe best teacher ever, and he was referring to me

Also one time my teacher in a lunch room saw that i was reading the worst book you can bring to school..... "Chaos Daemons Codex." which was in pdf form. I had it taken away and then i told them to bugger off because it was mine and i purchased it and that it was no gang symbol or anything stupid. I got it back and they were more embarrassed than i was, because i don't get embarrassed about my wargaming.

You forget the leaflets on 'How DnD makes you an Axe Murderer!' that were left for me when we were dating?

Really the whole 40k/Warhammer/DnD/Gaming fear worries and amuses me on equal levels. I got into a conversation just last year with a neighbour of mine on, how spiritual the games are and how they affect my spirituality/morals... I kind of gave up getting to know the person after they went ashen when I told them that there were fake dieties in each game I played. I did try to emphasize the pretend bit.

My parents are highly relgious and had a fit when I first so much as showed them an Ork figure

I told them it was an artistic parody of the Shrek franchiese to get them off my back, which weirdly enough did work

The most ridiculous moment was when I asked for a set of Grail Knights from my overly christian grandparents for christmas, they claimed it was evil and demonic despite having bought me a chaos rhino for my previous birthday, I had to explain to them that the holy grail is supposed to be a Christian artefact and that Bretonnians are basically the most christian models you can buy in warhammer. It was just one of those moments where you have to facepalm

I started playing 40k again my senior year of high school (2000-2001), I had an independent study class all throughout school, which basically let me make my own lesson plan for that class (aka I got to screw around as long as I could prove I was doing something -I- thought was productive and present something about it at the end of the project). So for the second half of the year another student in the class and I decided to build a small gaming table for 40k in a Flash size games. Our teachers were fine with this and we made a rather simple (the base was painted wood), but cool gaming table stocked with well made terrain that we ended up donating to the FLGS. In the same class but years earlier we designed a Roleplaying campaign in the fashion of DnD and played it for a few weeks at the end of semester with the entire class. No one in class, nor teachers, judged our hobbies or projects negatively, it was nice.

Today, arguably the best of the local conventions is held twice a year in a local high school, by their gaming club. http://recruits.mtswebsites.com/index.php

I think my local area is spoiled because of this.

I'm putting out feelers at my school about a war gamming club seeing as how I have to run at least one that meets for at least one hour after school each week.

They have a boardgames club, lego club, Wii club and a 'School of Rock' club and aren't a religious school so I think I'll be ok.

I was actually going to ask for advice on this soon, about if I should buy a couple of Assault on Black Reach sets to run it with?

I think I can swing a small budget to pay for some of it.

Stories and pictures are epic. Internets all round.

Sorry I missed this before...

The lady who wrote that had an article before it that talked about how Games Workshop was attempting to brainwash children into unthinking killing machines.

Completely epic.
