Arakasi's Inaugural Trukk Rally 2012 - Trukk Showoff Thread and Long Dated Competition
Welcome Boyz an' Grotz ta Arakasi's Inaugural Trukk Rally 2012! This thread exists to celebrate that ramshackle Ork go to vehicle - the humble Ork Trukk!
Anyway, like I woz sayin', Trukks iz built for speed an' speed alone. Yooze can grease it, turbo-charge it, paint it, paint it red, shoot it, shoot wiv it, boarding plank enemy vehicles from it, armour plate it, tank shock wiv it, ram it, race it, add glyphs and totems to it, grot rigger it, chuk stikkbombz wiv it, wreckin' ball stuff wiv it, reinforce it, steal it, build it, shake it, stun it, disarm it, immobilise it, wreck it, kareen it, explode it, roll it, loot it, ramshackle it. Dere are Bad Moon Trukks, Snakebite Trukks, Blood Axe Trukks, Deathskull Trukks, Goff Trukks, Evil Sunz Trukks an' Trukks looted by Grots. Dat- Dat's about it.
Primarily, this is a competition - but I hope to combine elements of a Trukk Show-off Thread and anything else hobby/Trukk related - fluff, modelling and painting tutorials etc etc - we'll see how it goes!
The competition will be for anything Trukk related (see above). Entries will be in the form of a post to this thread. To start with, there is one single open category, which will be voted on by DakkaDakka. Depending on interest and input (share your ideas!) - there may be additional categories and/or a judged section. Prize will be bragging rights - but I may look into organising sponsorship/prizes. However, there is no need to rush - this competition has been devised specifically for those of us that are... a little slow to progress (for perfectly acceptable reasons! ) The deadline is one year from now - June 30th 2012. Final entries will be taken from June 1st 2012. Your pole (sic) position, however, will be determined by your first entry in this thread - and will be used (in the unlikely event of) to separate ties The poll will run in July, hoping to announce a winner (or winners) 1st August 2012.
If you would like to build a non Trukk Ork Vehicle, you may be better served by Matt.Kingsley's Ork Vehicle Building Competition!! (Includes Super Heavies!)
You may enter as many times as you like.
You may enter existing Trukk related items.
You are encouraged to post WIP to this thread (it is in the P&M section...)
You are encouraged to post entries before June 1st 2012 for feedback and praise - the final entry after June 1st 2012 is just so I don't have to trawl through a year's worth of blog! (You will be required to provide a link to your first post in this thread for your pole position with your final entry)
If you are a Speed Freak (or like a challenge), may I suggest:
Multiple entries (Multiple Trukks)
Multiple types of entries (Trukks, Fluff, Tutorials)
Expanded entries (Trukk plus unit + character)
Trukk related scenery
Trukk related dioramas
Trukk related gaming boards
Any feedback and/or suggestions are welcome and encouraged - I haven't tried something like this before. This is only going to work if people want to participate. I imagine the hardest thing will be keeping interest over a year.
I'll post my current Trukk WIPs up next week - give some other Dakkanaughts a chance for the earlier pole positions
Big Meks! Start your engin'z!

So if you want to enter Looted Wagons and/or Battle Wagons - you're going to have to be a bit creative... a Trukk transporting Battle Wagon? Mobile Trukk Repair Battle Wagon? A Trukk killing Looted Wagon? Is there a Spearhead or Apocalypse formation that allows you to squadron a Trukk with either? I'm not planning on turning down any entries - but the main competition will be for the best Trukk related entry...
Dat's da plan schank23! Hopefully I have removed "not enough time" from anyone's list of procrastinations

@Ramos Asura: Welcome aboard!
@Santobell: According ta da Boss, yes. According ta da finances... we'll see
@Artsoldier35: Excellent idea (I've been meaning to do some too - but they are a *long* way down my list...) And I know you already have at least one Trukk you could enter as well

Post by: prototype_X
do we have to use the trukk kit, or can we scratch build??
either way IM IN!!!!!!!!!

Scratch build is perfectly acceptable

Excellent!
The servo-grots have been despatched on an scavenging sortie.
The meks are hoping for something more than a pile of exotic fungi and a hubcap this time.
edit: I only just grasped what you meant about getting pole position
In which case, for at least one entry the spanna-boys will be dragging this back to the workshop
And I really like the idea of different cartegories opening up as relevant ideas/pics/whatever appears. A full hobby extravaganza focused on trukks

Broken trukk!... ? That's kinda the idea of it... even broken it can look completely legitimate and intended... a little rivet here, some armour plates there, a little whatzit gubbin over there, and it's good as new!... ignore the use of good, there, as well as new.
Oh, and I might join up in this competition, though at the same time there's always the challenge of actually getting around to it and making it. Will I prove to be incurable when it comes to deadlines? Will I turn in a fully half built trukk by the deadline? Is Hodge Podge Man going to survive to haphazardly fight crime another day? Stay tuned, as some (more likely none) of these questions are answered next time! Same Kaesar channel, same Kaesar time.
Kaesar II, officially sorta getting in on this

Post by: schank23
So I pulled out a trukk I barely got started on a few months ago. (it's the primed black part)
And after I first read this I figure might as well pull it back out and do some work on it.
Haven't done to much yet just some but here is what I have so far.

Nice transformork Santo.
So a couple of WIP shots to show where that trukk-thing above is heading:
Wheels, track guard and boarding plank are just blu- tac'd at the moment.
As the wheels are outside the cab they'll be getting suspension and steering details, maybe connecting back up to where the side cannons were on the AT- ST.

i have been busy! i just need to finish rivits, then paint the rivits.
also:
this is a battlewagon, of course
I am going to rivit it, then give it a (third) paint job

glomscient wrote:two things:i have been busy! i just need to finish rivits, then paint the rivits.
A good mek's never finished riveting. A bit of kit may get driven off/flown off/fired at something, but that's just a temporary break till more riveting is done. Can't rivet everything at once, even with dok ock stylee rivet-gun arms.
Obviously, it's a way off yet, just thinking on the poll, I've heard it can be a real pain setting up a poll with a decent number of choices in it. I have no experience here so don't know how correct that is, but I'd imagine there should be a reasonable amount of items to vote on after a year of rally preparation.
Also, for those who may be tempted down the route of multiple entries, should they make an initial post for each item? Not that I imagine there's a high chance of a draw, more just as a general information post
18980
Post by: Arakasi
@monkeytroll: Didn't realise from looking at your thread earlier that that Trukk has a double width track on one side - how appropriately quirky...
@glomscient: That Trukk looks like it has seen some action! Looks like I can't stop the Battlewagons now
@monkeytroll: Da Big Mek will get it done - even if I have to break it down into "heats" and/or subcategories In the interests of my sanity and to avoid sneaky Ork taktiks - I don't think it's necessary to do an initial post per entry - but feel free to if you so wish. If you have several entries and you link them to the same initial post for pole position, you will need to designate the order of your entries. If I end up doing heats, I'll probably split multiple entries up equally between groups... Bit early to be worrying about it *just* yet - and plenty of time for better suggestions and ideas.

Heh, it didn't in the original pic, but was an idea I'd posted when I first put it up, after trying one chimera track and one Leman russ track, which I couldn't get to work well apparently. I wanted a nice asymmetrical look to it, and as different tracks didn't work out I opted for one double width track.
It's great having a blog where I can go and check on what I was supposed to be doing with bits, had to refer to it several times now

It seems to be going quite well so far. Some nice trukks so far. Gonna be slow going for me. But I do have some more done. Not much but some more work.
Lovin monkeytrolls trukk so far. Might have to send a grot raid over there and have them toss a monkeywrench in his meks progress. A few well placed stickbombz should do the job.
Maybe 100 or so. Makes for big badda boom. And then they will steal the scrap and take it back to me. Muhahahahhahaha!!!!

Hmm, a drop pod trukk, you say? Why not just eliminate the pod and have a drop trukk? Might not survive the landing too well, but that's why you 'aim' it to land on a nice and squishy cushion, like some guardsmen. Or orks. Works either way, though you'd need a lot of extra plate bitz and some respirators for the crew. And it could also double as a boat... no, a submarine...

Post by: Blitza da warboy
So I have two questions.
1. could it just be a rules wise truck, or does it have to look like an ork trukk? I have an idea of what to make for a trukk for when I revive my ork army, but it wouldn't exactly look like the tradditional ork trukks...
2. Where do I sign up?
good luck to everyone in the competition
18980
Post by: Arakasi
@Lord Kaesar II: Make it so!
@Blitza da warboy:
1) What *exactly* does an Ork Trukk *look* like - they are supposed to all be unique, ramshackle snowflakes - I'm sure your idea will fit in splendidly!
2) Your post *is* your sign up! Well, your potential intention to sign up anyway - we wouldn't want to scare of da spektatas! I'll be taking "official" entries closer to the deadline. In the meantime - remember your first post in this thread - it will dictate your pole (poll ) position in the voting... (and possibly which "heat" you are in, depending on the number of entries...)

Post by: ChaoticMind
I have 3 questions:
1 How game/tourney legal must the trukk be?
2 What are the rough dimensions of the "average" trukk?
3 How close to the official model do entries have to be in size?
The reason being, I don't have a current trukk to compare against or a codex and I would like to find this information out before I get to far on my ex-quad gun tractor with kitchen sink.

Post by: Anvildude
I'd think it would need to be explainably wysiwyg. That is, if someone points at something and says "What's that?" you need to be able to tell, and it can't be a Killkannon or something (unless it's a Guntrukk, or from a fandex, or...) You know what? They're Orks. You should probably just go crazy with it.
Trukk- smaller than a Battlewagon, bigger than a Buggy. Which Battlewagon, and which buggy, well, that's up to you.
See above.

Artsoldier35 wrote:And the driver wasn't painted before but I got crap about it and he's got green skin now. Once I get to Washington, the building of my supa-wagun will begin.
So you should and so he should! It's the only thing letting down an otherwise fine Trukk. Looking forward to da supa-wagun! Blitza da warboy wrote:I think this would be the 8th project I have going on at the time...
Only 8? What kind of Big Mek are you?
@ChaoticMind: The main vote will be put to DakkaDakka - vote for the best Trukk. I would think rule of cool should win out here, but I can't guarantee anything! So, in answer to your specific questions:
1) As game/tourney legal as you like. If there is enough interest in a game/tourney legal category it might matter for that category only - but overall, I imagine not in the slightest - what *are* you thinking of doing?
2) I'll have to measure next week (or perhaps a kindly Dakkanaut will provide) I'll also see about getting the dimensions of Warbuggies and Battlewagons for comparison... (good way to differentiate Anvildude!)
3) See 1) above, substituting "game/tourney legal" with "close to the official model in size"
I think Anvildude (thanks!) explained it as well or better - I'll see about putting up the Codex entries/descriptions along side some dimensions for Trukks - and Warbuggies and Battlewagons for comparison. I can even source IA8 for Gun Trukks, Flak Wagons etc
Hope that helps!
Keep Trukk'n!

Currently I have the Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram, excessively long tow cable and official battle wagon for size.
Now my entry as of 16/7/11.

Hi guys as you probably know my trukks are pretty much built and mostly painted already, I'm hoping to get around to doing some weathering on them and other finishing touches. They are mostly scaled up versions of the old trukk model to almost the size of the current gw trukk.
Arakasi if Imperial Armour trukks are on I might have a go at building some of those.

Well, if you needed a reason to do a Trukk, I'd hope this thread might inspire you. Your pole position is held from your first post in this thread should you choose to join in - and with still over 11 months left to run - there is plenty of time to make up your mind! As Matt.Kingsley pointed out above - Trukk related is fine too if you have other strengths or projects that need some focus. Failing that - there is nothing wrong with being a spektata - spurring on the other participants or quietly enjoying whilst drinking squig brew...

Not that I play orks now, or am likely to in the future... but worse case scenario I can donate it to someone who likes it

Now,today wot we's lookin' at is known as der Orks-klaw style. Dis 'as 4 stands-eres, one fer each of ya fingas, and den anovva one fer ya fumm, makes up an ork's klaw see. Each of dese stands-eres is made by an ork-u. You've probly seen ork-us before, dey has 3 lines, and goes 4 silly-bubbles, 4 silly bubbles den lotsa silly-bubbles.Well, der 4 finger...yes, SnotGrub, wot is it?
Wot's a silly-bubble? We did dis last time..oh yeah, so you woz.
Well yousecan catch up from SnagToof after, but really a silly-bubble is der bit of noise we makes when we says somefink. Yes, speakin', but da little bitz of speakin innit. Like, 'ork' is one silly-bubble, and 'Orks is da best' is, err..orks..is..da..best...4 silly-bubbles. Deys called
silly-bubbles coz when 'umies make dose comix dey put da words in silly bubbles ova da top of da pwetty pictures. Got it?
Right den, so we 'as 4 ork-us making da fingas, den a backwardsy ork-u fer da fumm, wherewe goes lotsa silly-bubbles, 4 silly-bubbles, 4 silly-bubbles.Hmm, p'raps an example would be agood idea.
Right, dis is a klassik, probly 'eard some of it before, Rumble-Krump by Warlord Zoo of da Red Sunz klan...
Red ones fasta
Blue ones looted
Bouncin' bouncin' over broken ground
Black n' white checks
Cross-ax or snake
Rockin' n' rumblin' toward da krumpin'
Shiny yella
Shiny yella
Lotza teef movin' at speed
Da charga roars
Wreckin' ball swings
Metal groans across da battered land
Krumpin' done good n' da battle is won
Mekz n' grotz look
For bits, for trukks
Movin' ain't it? Hur, hur, movin'.
Right, well SnagToof, what does ya fink dat...."

Yes more pics less poems though a funny example I'm reminded of the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy and the Vogons when I think about Orks doing peoms.
Vogon Poetry is described as "the third worst poetry in the Universe". The main example used in the story is a short piece composed by Jeltz, which roughly emulates nonsense verse in style. The story relates that listening to it is an experience similar to torture as demonstrated when Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect are forced to listen to the poetry prior to being thrown out of an airlock.

Can I enter the trukk portion of a wagon I'm working on? It's a DAF trukk with a trailer (or it will be), but the trailer is gonna be a lab or workshop or something... it's a mobile mekshop is the idea, I guess. *edit* Just got the word from Matt that this was the race to be in... with my DAF trukk at least. As it will be a battle wagon once I make the trailer I wasn't sure which thread to post it in, but I have been far too enticed to not join one of these fantastic "competitions". It's been a while since I have worked on it, but I'll make it more of a priority. Here's the widest shot of it: My Bigmek has a Mechanicus/Ordo Xenos theme so his ride has it too... so far only the mechanicus part is there.

Of course! Welcome to the rally! Though I'm sure you could enter it into both - I'm pretty sure Matt doesn't have any restrictions, and I certainly don't.

@ monkeytroll: I'm liking the half track so far and the use of that SM tank commander torso is genius!
@ everyone competing: good job and good luck though I think several are going to blow my entries out of the water.
So now for a quick update.
I hit a small snag, I need to add grots to my kwad gun trakta but i don't have any right now so I did what any good mek would do, start another!
this is an oficial entry however this is my "tame" kwad gun trakta.
How ever now I need to start armor plating it. Big thanks to monkeytroll for the wheel mount idea.

@ChaoticMind: Looking good - but do you count those itsy bitsy wheels as Orky? Or are they going to be hanging from the rear vision mirror?
@kaiservonhugal: Count yourself as counted in! Now *those* are Orky wheelz - size wise anyway (not enough armour plates/spikes for my liking) - but hey, the Trukk, nay, MONSTER Trukk, is awesome
@monkeytroll: Safe yes. There has been a disturbing lack of updates on my part in both my main threads... (a sort of move, new job and a new puppy - not to mention your meddling grotz....)
@kaiservonhugal: In case I don't, have you entered it into Matt.Kingsley's Ork Vehicle Building Competition!! (Includes Super Heavies!) (Looks good - reminds me of the Empire Marienburg Class Land Ship for some reason...)

Very promising start there Wazzdig Dagga! (Of course, we would expect so having seen your Trukks...) If I ever build a Mek Shop, it will have one of those engine harnesses holding, wait for it, an engine! Possible being dropped into or extracted from a Trukk. And those Trukk lifts that raise the Trukk so you can get to the underside. Any similar (or more inspired plans) for your?

Half-way mark is where all the meks are thinking 'that's not right. Pull it apart and start again.' So that probably means a flurry of new stuff soon.
Possibly
Mine's still in that nasty almost-done stage, need to try and kick-start some more p-work on that. Or just build some more

How is everyone else's Trukks going? Or have you all stalled too?

Four months? Oh good gork I need to get things moving big style then. The trukk with paint on is having some of the colours re-thought, partly because it was a little too clashy, but mainly becuase I decided I really didn't want a looted ultra-smurf door
The ones being built are.....hmm, well, sem to be in exactly the same state as whenever I last showed something happening with them.

Well, here they are, the Long awaited (cough) update pics for my entry... just needs paint now. (and a little more card... maybe some rivets...)
the original passenger platform shattered after being dropped by TFG. and my Rules Lawyer brother commented that the gun placement, While orky, could be considered modeling for advantage. So i put the front end next to the front of my Kit trukk, and positioned the new Kuppola in about the same area as the gunner on the trukk.

Okay Big Meks, we are into the home straight - less than 4 weeks to go! (Has a year gone by already?)
This thread is now open for final entries - just post them in the thread, making it clear it is your final entry. If you are posting multiple entries in one post, please make it easy for me to spot the separation!
Due to moving back to Oz (and other poor excuses), sadly none of my Trukks will be completing, or maybe in a very limited capacity, I'll see if I can find any half decent photos of them (maybe at Platinum Devil 4...)
Tinker safe!
