Just to be clear, this is NOT a debate on if Slaanesh is male or female. This is a discussion on how you think of Slaanesh; be it male, female, or an "it".
Me personally, usually think of Slaanesh as a female, like the Eldar.
Usually the way I see Slaanesh is to pay an exhorbitant entry fee at a dodgy-looking club in an alleyway somewhere...
Seriously though, I imagine Slaanesh being similar to HIM from the PowerPuff Girls. Where there is no particular gender (androgynous is the term I think) but there is an almost random shift from more masculine to more feminine dependant on the situation.
Lord Harrab wrote:I think its both, the Lord of Excess formally known as Prince has "Trap" written all over it, in boobs.
Pretty much this, though I'm sure that, as others suggested, he/she changes form (including gender visuals) every so often just for lulz. Maintaining something in-between as its primary shape seems most fitting, though, given how the daemons look like.
I see Slaanesh as female. Not saying I don't think Slaanesh could be an it... but I just imagine a female form. Kind of like the greater deamons of slaanesh
Well, Slaanesh is often called the "Prince of Darkness." Usually 'Prince' is a masculine trait. Therefore, I go with male. His lovely 4th edition daemonettes are all ladies though
Plus I believe he often gets called 'he' in the codex/army book. So...male
'She Who Thirsts'. Slaanesh is whatever it wants to be. Technically, as a daemon, which doesn't reproduce, it isn't anything. The codices usually refer to Slaanesh as just Slaanesh or by one of its titles.
I tend to think to think of Slaanesh as a male. I typically see him being very close to an effeminate male from some popular Japanese RPG but about 1000 more grimdark.
Durza wrote:Technically, as a daemon, which doesn't reproduce, it isn't anything.
I'm glad someone said it. None of the daemons really have a gender, they are given form by the imagination of their supplicants. I'm sure there are some aliens or isolated humans somewhere that have a matriarchy and view Khorne as a female.

That's disturbing: "Boobs for the Boob God!!"
Thanks to Chronopia, we have seen a potential female 'Thirster:
I know that Slaanesh can be either, neither, or both. But whenever someone mentions Slaanesh doing something way back when, unless it is specifically mentioned otherwise, I always picture him as male.
"He" is also, in common English printing, both the male-specific pronoun but, also, the default, non-gender-specific pronoun, because "it", when referring to people, seems insulting or dehumanizing or some such thing.
White Wolf, when it was printing the VTM books, bucked this trend by using "she" as the gender-non-specific pronoun... but the effect is the same. When speaking of a character or a non-specified person, you're free to use either without it having to be restricted to the gender assignment.
All that aside... Slaanesh is a hermaphrodite, being both male and female, and something else, as well, being a Chaos Divinity. Hir daemonettes are... somewhat visually female... but only by halves, since they have but one breast. The Keepers of Secrets, too, only have one breast, and are otherwise monstrous and non-human.
Psienesis wrote:White Wolf, when it was printing the VTM books, bucked this trend by using "she" as the gender-non-specific pronoun..
That's because the VTM books and game are a vampire in their own right, leaving you drained of anything remotely approaching masculinity.
This is, basically, true... unless you were looking to hook up with goth girls in high school. Knowing your VTM lore, and dressing as your favorite Clan, was your ticket to her bedroom.
I'd say both. I mean, why choose? I tend to think of it as a 'him' though. Hermaphrodidic. unless he decides for something else. *shrugs*
and themocaw, can I use that as a sig?

So Slaanesh is evenly believed to be a giant tentacled Fap-folder, On top of a pile of big pile money with many beautiful women, while being on top, and wearing a power top.

covered in caviar and 1907 Heidsieck Champagne
back on topic i view Slaanesh as a white skinned giant Daemonette with 2 heads and 4 faces, but with a shape shifting genitalia and various 'Pleasure absorbing glands' all over its body and multi forked tongues and with the faces one has the everything but the eyes stitched up, one with everything but the ears, one with a free mouth and one with a free nose, so each can enjoy the most of its sense

Me personally, usually think of Slaanesh as a female, like the Eldar.
Eldar do name it "She Who Thirsts" but then Eldar seem to have a language and culture that's gender-neutral, not caring too much if the Young King is female, for example, or that the Maidens of Morag-Hai, the Wailing Banshees, may be male for all they care - even though in that particular case the legend is clear that the (not-Eldar) Banshees of myth were all female. Then again, I do tend to think of Slaanesh as a she and envisioning it as a clearly male form...
So Slaanesh is REALLY evenly believed to be a giant tentacled Fap-folder, On top of a pile of big pile money with many beautiful women, men, crabs, goats, and one llama, while being on top and covered in caviar and 1907 Heidsieck Champagne, and wearing a power top.
Well slanesh is a daemon, wich is pratically a reflect of some feeling on the warp that grew enogh. In this case, IT is the desire.
So, when a form is needed, slanesh will assume the most desired form in the vicinity. Male in a convent of sisters, female in the barracks of IG, blob with tentacles in the planet of tentacled blobs, a heavy pelt coat in the hills of a frost planet, or a meal in the city slums.
When talking about slanesh, only 2 things are sure: it will take the best form to solve your desires and it will do that in a amazingly way, whyle drinking in your soul.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hm, just adding, for me it is 3 Mysticas, a room and an endless source of good food... Lets do the 2 best things in life, forever.

I see Slaanesh as an androgynous god that represents excess in EVERYTHING. Not just sex, but violence, decadence, emotional highs, mental conditions, everything.
Of course, it ends up being represented as boobies.

And that is what then entire previous page was pretty much about.

all though slaanesh is dubbed "prince", it is a demon uncomprehendable by an average mortals eyes. also, prince is merely another word for tyrant, which can be a term used for either gender.

Instinctively I think of Slaanesh as a "he", I think because I read somewhere that his preferred form is an impossibly beautiful androdgynous male with shining blonde hair or something. So I guess like male Galadhrim elves in LOTR in black leather bondage gear
However, I know he's an it, so my image might change once that becomes lodged in my mind. Either way, (s)he rocks.

I'm in the neither camp when I think about it. Slannesh is what the creature looking at it most desires it to be. Thats all part of the allure.
However, when the idea of slannesh first jumps into my brain my knee jerk reaction is that it is female, then the rest of my brain kicks in and it quickly becomes basic Slannesh once again.
I think of Slaanesh as male, and I even know why. In one of the Chaos Space Marine Codexes in years gone by, there was a picture of a male Space Marine - naturally missing his chestplate to show off his truly fabulous muscles - displayed under the Slaanesh fluff section. Because I was young, I naturally assumed this guy to be Slaanesh - much like I assumed the Chaos Marine Sorcerer under the Tzeentch section to be Tzeentch. I believe the section also described Slaanesh as, "The Prince of Excess."
I tend to imagine Chaos Gods as awesome badasses, but nothing near what you'd see on a Lovecraft novel. In the case of Slannesh, it's a tall woman in the sluttiest plate bikini immaginable. Her looks are a lot like the fluff daemonnettes (the ones I like to think are the only ones that exist), but taken to the extreme.
