Why is it always Red vs. Blue? In almost all cases, (video games, television shows, the Man U / Chelsea rivalry in my primary school, etc.) teams are divided into red against blue. But on the colour wheel, the opposite of red is green. Surely green is red's natural enemy? Certainly it's the better colour. Where does this red/blue war come from? Where did it start? Should it persist? These are all questions that have been preying on my mind.
EDIT: When playing games with these two factions in, which colour do you tend or prefer to side with? And why?
I do. Also, no-one likes yellow. I wonder if the continued use of red and blue has something to do with how stiking they are? Moreso than green and yellow, for instance.
Another big issue is that many people are Red/Green Color-Blind. So, if teams are Red and Green, these people won't be able to tell them apart.
Being both Red/Green Color-Blind and Blue/Yellow is much rarer. So, if you want to pick colors the most people can differentiate, red and blue are the way to go.
Perhaps there are historical origins? Good ol' Redcoats versus Continentals?
Or the Cold War? Blue is a colour oft' associated with the United States and they faced down the evil red devils...
I did wonder about this. There certainly a precedent for Red facing off against Blue. Xref: politics in the UK and US, among others.
My original toy soldiers were grey Nazi-esque ones vs. tan Australian-esque ones. Those brave Aussies won some fine, though historically questionable, victories.
Automatically Appended Next Post: This has got me wondering which colour more people tend to side with. For my part, I always prefer Red, but my friend prefers to play with Blue, as he sees Red as the default enemy colour. I've added a poll to hopefully get an impression of what the average Dakkanaut favours.

I suspect that has less to do with the yellow, though.
what about yellow? its a primary. yet people always use red, blue, and green for stuff...never got it.
as for me i just like blue better.
IMO it comes from fire and water.they are natural enemy's and those are their colors so everyone uses red and blue. also maybe thats why they use green.grass, plants and stuff.yellow isnt really a major force of nature like those 3.
Yellow would take par but it is currently caught in the midst of an economic depression, drought, famine, civil war, flu epidemic and a series of social conventions designed to surpress and oppress both the intelectual classes, the working class and bring about the downfall of the upper class.
In short; they suck.

yellow sucks? green is the one that sucks! its used in yellows place all the time.and if you throw in mother nature it is used even less than less.heck, all that green drowns out red to.

Yellow is NOT a primary color. Red, Blue, and Green are the primary colors.
The "primary" colors you learned in grade school are actually the secondary colors (yellow, cyan, magenta). You learned it this way because paint (and ink) works by subtracting colors, not adding them. And, your grade school art teacher is more familiar with paint than with science.
This is why printer ink (which works with subtracting colors) uses yellow, cyan, and magenta. And, it's why you can't print white.

Heretic. Red is the only true power. All those Bluesers out there better get ready 'cos we're coming for you.
Yellow isn't going anywhere fast either...

Actually it depends on you're looking at primary subtractive colors (e.g. paints and inks) or primary additive colors (e.g. tv, computer screens, etc). The primary subtractive colors are Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. The primary additive colors are Red, Blue, and Green.

There is. He says forgotten primary, jokingly implying that it was previously a primary colour alongside Red, Blue and Yellow (or, the big three) but over the years, people have forgotten it and relegated its status.
Swordwind wrote:GREEN IS THE TRUTH! THE FORGOTTEN PRIMARY LIVES

apparently scientifically green is primary, yellow is not. someone find a link to this truth.
Apparently, most 'facts' that are spoken with 'apparently' as their opening word, are untrue.
so since most facts that people begin with apparently at opening are untrue, and you began this statement with apparently, does that make this statement untrue!!!

just kidding i know what your saying, i just like to be annoying

First off, that was purposeful.
Secondly, I said 'most', so my statement could still well be true.
the heck? so...the primary's are....red,blue,yellow,green,magenta,cyan,extreme purple,extreme red,psychedelic aquamarine?
the heck?!
from what im reading its more like the primary colors are different depending on what you want to do and how you're going to come up with the colors
it was a joke. and while they are all only primary's in certain things, they are still a primary somewhere. i mean come on,how many sets of primary do you need? kinda makes what you originally think of the word when it comes to colors loose its meaning.

And, don't forget that there's devices and animals that can see colors outside the normal human spectrum. So, for example, we need some primary colors for bee's vision (they can see ultra-violet), and another set of primaries for snakes (they can see infra-red).

oh gosh...by the time this is over every color will be a primary.

I already did.

Yes it was? Being the person who wrote it I can say that I implied 'apparently' makes most statements untrue, creating a possibility that both statements could be true or false.
while true, if i walked up to someone who was smoking a cigarette, and proclaimed "MOST PEOPLE WHO SMOKE DIE OF LUNG CANCER!" then it is inferred that I am talking to that person. the way i took it(may not be the way you meant it) was that the most was there just so that a specific did not have to be named.
Donut? Donut hasn't even been in it for the last three seasons or some such...
I'll admit, I haven't watched much past Ep. 100. But since 1) those were the best episodes and 2) Donut was awesome, I stand by my position.
Donut got killed if I recall correctly.
Nah, Donut comes back into one of the newer Season's episodes, in a rather hilarious fashion:
Donut mets the Agent Maine:
"Hey Simmons! Did you know that the Blue's got a new member?"
"Really? Again?! Who is it thi- *See's Agent Maine* OH FETH! Welcome to the neighborhood, talk to you later!"
Spoiler:
Agent Maine = The Meta
Red vs Blue is AMAZING, i think as for favorite side, gotta give it to red, Sarge and lopez are classic
Lopez is fantastic with Donut in toward the end, due to him studying Spanish. In Highschool.

I know, I particularily liked the scene where
Spoiler:
Tex fought Washington and Maine in the Avalanche. That was awesome, I am looking forward to Season 9 solely because it's about the Agents, it should be more badass. I never thought I would say this, but I hope they make this less about Church and more about the Freelancers.
Chapter 11 of revelations I think was the scene where Tex kicked the collective asses of red and blue. I would post it but they drop the f-bombs a few times.

We'd prefer you not link to stuff with gratuitous swearing at all. If you have something with a little bad language that is otherwise relevant to a discussion about wargaming then it's okay to post a url -- not the video itself, via the style html code -- but keep this in mind: you do need to post a warning about it not being safe for work AND about why it's not safe for work. Also, as always, everything you post is subject to moderation on a case-by-case basis. This little scrap is not going to save you if you post something that the moderation team feels crosses the line.
I think they drop it 5 or so times in 6 minutes along with some other swearing, so that's at least 1 swear per minute. Probably would be best just to tell people to go look it up on youtube or something.

It's ok for me to do that, right? Report my own post when I need one of you guys for something? I've done it twice now, so before I made a habit out of it I figured I would make sure it's ok...
Red. Because it takes a real badass to wear a color that looks like blood!
Also because everytime i play paintball i am always paired with red team and they are always the small and elite squad of very experienced paintballers or they are from the marine corp and we just own all the time against the noobs of blue.
i wonder if the OP intended this to turn into red vs blue discussion. not that i dislike it, i love RvB, i bet that the OP knew because its a fairly logical non sequiter
