Thanks for the comments guys!

@perku; its the head from the fantasy iron claw warboss, the claw from the plastic ork kit and the body of badrukk

Ok, i'm working on a project currently, a home brew scratch built high detail 'scrap tank' which i plan to sell, but mainly as use for grot tanks. in the meantime, here's some detailish photo's of the army.

more coming soon, i'm just putting all my effort into this tank kit. i'm hoping to put it on sale in early/mid august.

So, i've been working for two days straight on the scrap tank making it castable. it's an interesting process, forced me to up my game. in the meantime, here is an early kitbash wip for update supa-cannon

its coming along nicely i think, but still needs a fair bit of work, its a little too rough and ready at the moment.

@liama; in the model on my desk it has an ork climbing out, it's just easier to put up the older photo since it isn't finished being painted yet.

Time for the first update in a few days. Here is the supa-kannon in basecoat red, and my flashgitz;

And now for something special. I'm going to start work on my own mini's range, and this is a preview of the first model. its about 60% complete, needs work, but its my scrap tank design. I'm hoping to put this on sale in the next week or two.

more photo's of this after the first resin casts and paint ups, i'm hoping a few people here might be interested in buying them. The more interest their is, the more accessories i can release. i'm going to release a dozerblade at the same time as the initial launch, but if people like it then i'll be doing a rounder turret design as well as 5 other types of weapons.

Ok, so alot of you have heard me talk about the 'scrap tank' for about a week or two now. well, i can now release the finalised design. This is what it looks like, this is the original model as all molds are now completed, cured, and will from tomorrow be undergoing the first trial run of castings. Once i get the casting process down, and find a better quality of resin i can sell these off. Anyone interested in owning one of these (with future accesories/turret and weapon options in the planning proccess) it will cost in the region of £10

So here are some highlights of the match i had tonight... 1500pts per side, an annihilation match

Deployment;

With turn one being to my side i lost no time in thinning out the genestealers... though due to my low BS i had alot of issues despite the sheer volume of firepower;

The tyranids on the other hand began to move... with only a light amount of shooting on their side the hivemind scored little against the Ork horde...

Turn two; already the genestealers had taken two of the grot tanks, but the ork boys were not afraid. piling out they charged into the genestealers, loosing three of their own but inflicting the same injuries back! Victory was short lived in this corner, with the entire tyranid infantry horde sweeping in and buring them in a sea of carapace.

On the other side however things were not so grim. the combined efforts of the tanks had scored a few wounds on the synapse units, but gargoyles moved in to the shooting boys, and so began a bloody and vicious combat.

It's worth mentioned that at this stage a group of ravenors deep striked... only for the hive mind to fire them off the table. a cruel twist of fate;

Turn three; things were now putting the gitzkrieg on the backfoot. with the bigmek, thus far scoring serious hurting against the hivemind (his cannon had not only fired but on both occasions wound or killed a warrior) recieving the infantry who had taken out the ladz in the previous round now faced with the same sea of carpace he knew his time was up for gork and mork had seen fit to end his reign.

The tyranids, now putting down serious hurt, obliterated the tanks that stood in thier way, thus far clocking up three got tanks a squad of boyz and their trukk on the left flank, and putting the other boyz squad into serious trouble on the right as showing off its teeth. One again with a might boom the ork lines opened fired.. only to miss with the vast majority of their weapons. The carnifex took his wound, another unit of tyranids felt the sting of the guns but still they would not be stemmed.

Turn 4; with this being the final turn (3hrs in and alot of shooting and dice throwing... thus reaching the end of the clubs time its open) things look grim. 3 kill points per side, units either stranded or too far from combat to be effective, and with the grot tanks playing merry havoc with the carnifex (6+ to hit... only for a 5+ inv save to stop any damage done) it came down to two things; who could kill the most?

The ork lines opened fire killing the last of one warrior unit leaving only one synapse creature standing. In combat, the tanks, built by the cursed mek, shrugged off even the hardiest of rending claws, suffering two stunned results.

In the end the 4th kill point went the the tyranids, who after 3 turns of combat, finally killed the ork nob who had stood his ground against gargoyles, lost his armour save.

Match total;
Gitzkrieg; 3 kill points
Tyranids; 4 kill points.

Footnote; i miss 4th edition... when points of units left mattered. i had 900pts worth of tanks still left. shame, but an amazingly fun match!

Warboss Zhadsnark Da Rippa; 150ps

3 Biker Nobz, warbiker painboy, 4 cybork bodies, 3 power clawz 285pts

Troops;

3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts

Fast Attack;

3 warbikes, nob, big choppa 90pts
3 warbikes, nob, powerclaw 110pts

Total points; 1495.

Its phototime! First set is from the final, during the through the fire and in flames scenario... damned rough map. First up, mine and alexheaps blood angels,

Deployment!

yeah, we were fighting daemons so we reduced his deep striking zone into his zone, which as you can image would cause them HUGE issues. the daemons player was properly cacking himself, because the tau would get shot to feth and he couldn't drop into combat without deep striking to death (the lava counted as death to any and all who though of using it.)

midway point, i tried to block the daemons why using my trukks as a giant blockade.

no pictures of the end of the board, but we lost due to the changing of the game, we couldn't get our troops to the objective (bridge) in time because we lost 2 turns thanks to the time limit on the gaming hall itself. However, we prided our selves on our tactics, because the other team admitted in 5-6 turn game we would have absolutly smashed them.

total; 2 tabled. 2 wins. 1 loss.

wow.... 8 posts without a reply. man i love dakkadakka....

In order to justify this post... here's some pictures of my 3/30 bikers (wip), my classic ork squad, some kommandos and nazdreg (stripped heavy weapon inc)

Now thats justified, after careful planning i've abandoned the gargant because... well, i've fallen in love with deff arsenals... and in order to justify another stompa (ok... 2)... well you can work it out.

So, here's the stompas...

Speed freek Rok'n'Rolla (white dwarf goff rok'n'rolla with the following add ons)
Red paint Job.
545pts

Kustom stompa 1;
Gaze of Gork, Gigastoota,Deth Kannon with co-axial gigashoota, 2x shoulder kannon, bellygun, repair krew, power field, deff arsenal
1050pts

Kustom stompa' 2;

Gaze of gork, 2x titan close combat weapon, 2 shoulder zzap gunz, Belly gigashoota, red paint job, Supercharge, repair krew, power field, red paint job.
Total cost; 765 points.

Kustom stompa 3;
Gaze of Gork, 2x Gigastoota, 2x shoulder kannon, bellygun, repair krew, power field, deff arsenal
975pts

I think we can all agree.... that is one SERIOUSLY monster set of titans... 3335 points in those alone, but more than enough firepower for my portion of the forces.

Of course, i've still got 8 killakans, 9 big trakks, a skullhamma, a fighta, warbikes galore and a Killblasta tank to add to it. I'll be honest, the size of my waaagh is causing even me to get worried. Nah i lied. I LOVE IT.

You have obviously rendered everyone speechless... Everything is looking good, but it might be easier to comment if you took some close ups of individual pieces rather than so many group and further out shots. Unfortunately, the ones you have done this for (some of the tanks) - as you said - it's hard to make out the weathering - so we are just waiting for more progress really (Well, I am anyway!) Did you finished bikers start out like the red base coated one?

Gitzkrieg and Da Grotz Populli; Da rebelt grotz is 'ere! @ 2011/08/26 09:25:30

Post by: Skrall

@arakasi; yeah they all started out based in a red coat, its good for doing tanks, but i've since been converted to painting them white first. And yeah... i don't like showing my infantry on a individual scale because most of them are rushed tabletop standard paint jobs, i only take pride in my bikes/tanks/walkers.

Ok i promised this a while back... so here it is.

Weathering Tutorial 1; Salt weathering.

Firstly, get your model painted to the quality of rust you like, mine seems a little washed out in this light but you'll see i go for a brown/orange rust, a mix of fresh and old rust.

Next up... salt the areas you want to look rusted.

Now paint your model your selected scheme.... in this case, badmoon yellow!

Next up, wash them in warm water and use either a stiff paint brush or old toothbrush to make sure you get shift of all that salt. once you do, it should look like this;

This technique can only be used by using an airbrush, or a spray can (i've done it in the past with red spray for my word bearers)

Any questions or feedback? If not, expect nazdreg to appear in the next few days as a finished model.

-skrall

Gitzkrieg and Da Grotz Populli; Da rebelt grotz is 'ere! @ 2011/08/26 12:01:25

Post by: pox

That alt technique seems interesting. I tried a weathered paintjob on a terrain piece, and it didn't turn out so good. (I got the rest down, but when I tried to paint the "original" color, I couldnt get it to look right.)

I'll give the salt trick a go, and see what happens.

Good looking stuff, I do echo the request for more closeups! I also enjoyed seeing some old-school models in there. I love fielding my OOP army and explaining to players "no, those are not grots. they are Orks, haha."

pox, its worth a go, quite effective! and yeah, i'll be doing alot more in the next few days as and when i finish these guys!

ok after the last update i decided that i'm going to reboot my 750 combat force as badmoons.... classic badmoons.

C&C? quite happy with that yellow still.... and the second kan having much more subtle rusting.

@trond; the VC's will be back on the table soon. Unless someone commissions something between now and new year i'll be focused on this gitzkrieg. in about 2 weeks i'm going to buy the first two stompas.

here is wazdakka at the current stage of progress; its pretty early on, alot of clean up/modelling needed, but i think for a kit bash its shaping up nicely.

Ever think about doing the base in a grey/ colder tone? The brown kinda washes out the reds when viewed as a whole.

Wow guys thanks for the comments!

@cricket; yeah i did, but when i started the army i wanted an armaggedon yellow chemical sands of death basing, since (foolishly) they were death skullz back then. I enjoy keeping the sand theme because it looks Fething awesome when used to weather tank tracks.

As a reward to my loyal readers here's a tutorial on greenskin tone i've done. Same technique i used on the mek, just a little more muted.

Step 1; Dark angels green base coat;

Step 2; Knarloc Green over all by the most extreme area's of darkness.

step 3;

Now i don't actually own any goblin green or snot green due to GW's current feth-headed policy towards shipping things, despite being 23 miles from the uk my former stockists have stopped. As such i have to order online or get creative.. so i got creative. this mix is 65;35 dark angels to scorpian to get a nice solid mid green.

Step 4;

Once you've mixed the original colour go 4 parts 'ork green (the one you just mixed...or use gobbo/snot green), 1 part golden yellow one part bleached bone for a highlight layer, once done give it a wash of thraka green to blend in the colours without loosing the highlights.

Step 5;

Same with step 4, only the mixture is now 2;1;1, which creats a much lighter tone. in some places it might be worth washing, but this is where its down to subjective opinion.

step 6;

Now just use thin bleach bone highlights to represent stressed skin or extreme highlights, in this case i've avoided the upper shoulders because i know that snikrots going to look alot different when its no longer red and green, but as my mek shows it works well to highlight alot of the areas.

hope you find this useful, more handy tips coming soon!

I've started wazdakka's paint job so i'll shove up the close ups as have been requested, though i've removed the bosspole until i find something more stable and less weedy. I've also finished one of my tanks and i thought i'd display the 4 meks i own... of which the more obvious meks are the good the bad and the dakka. Oh yeah, its also a scale shot of wazdakka, a tank and a biker...

Very nice. Lovely rusted up appearance.

Possibly the 'batteries' in his sack could use a little something to make them stand out from the backpack, but they might already do that in RL.

As mt says... you might look at adding some contrast to the pack and the axe... it'll help make things stand out a bit so that everything doesn't fade into a red/brown mish-mosh. Nicely done though.

Thanks for the feedback guys! You've both got a point, i might paint chequers onto the grenades... seems like the orky thing to do.

So... a few days ago i won a metal ghazghkull for £6 inc p&p... it arrived about 20 minutes before i went to work. After getting home i've spent about an hour or two cutting and pinning it together again... But what for? Well, the below picture is the artwork i'm aiming for with the warboss... and then there is the warboss, who's only just been put together roughly (it came with no claws so i'm rebulding them... into a marine)

I was going to wait to tomorrow... but i thought 'nah, people need to see me discover using PINS!'

Thats right. first model i've ever pinned. Rock on!

Now... This is far from my finest hour, but i thought what the hell i'll shove it up for ridicule. this is my still drying bloodthirster. I've had it on my shelf as a wip for about 18 months, i finally decided to rush a paintjob and get it done.

The base will basically be liquid blood once the varnish dries and stops looking like pink spunk. I don't own brass paint, see no reason to start now, so its... rusted metal! suprise suprise!

Any comments? ridicule is acceptable and encouraged.

Ok small update, i'd hope for a larger one but because englands in the middle of 80mph winds and i'm on a island in the middle of the irish sea the post office can't do jack squat. why? because niether boat or plane is liable to try and cross in this sort of weather, and even if they have i suspect i've been let down by darksphere.co.uk and there previous 2 days from purchase to delivery time tables. It doesn't help my dad's borrowed my drill so i can't even cut the barrles for the bigshootz which will live in the housings shown below.

Rep will be given for the first to spot which model shouldn't be in the army....

Now i used scortched brown with a little chaos black. All you need to do is get a sponge or the old foam they used to do in the days of the metal blister packs, and dab it on in places like corners, the bottom of armour, near guns ect.

Step 3; silverz

Same process, just get mithril silver, use a sponge and dab it on, ensuring to touch only lightly and never to cover all of your browncoat.

step 4; other bitz

All your doing here is simply adding a chaos black/scortched brown mix on to the barrel of any major artillery pieces of damaged spots. in this case, start with the dark coat, then add another tone (see below for pics) over the top. i usually mix up a orange/brown/snakebite mix to get the best scorching i can.

Step five; Admire.

And there you have it, one speed weathered tank. Result will varey with time/race/painters.

somewhat overdue, but here's how i paint meh bloodz....

Start with tamya clearred. pretty easy so far...

then apply it!

next step; add chaos black to the mix, it'll darken the paint, representing coagulation, gore and any number of other bitz.

In the end, looks pretty snazzy, without being too comic.

Now for some photo's of what progress i've made.

I've got quite a few of the infantry done, but i ran out of skorched brown about 4 models into the batch paint, so i've completed them and now have to wait for wednesday to go into town and buy some more.. I'm also waiting on my dreadknights so i can loot the crap out of those to make my mega/mekadreads. Similarly i have about 3 dreads i'm waiting for, one classic, one second hand and one to be sacrifised to the mek for my heavy support.
C&C welcome on the list or the army, though i doubt there is any.

Update time..... I've only got a few minutes before work, but this is what i've been working on between shifts since yesterday morning, and its my meka and mega-dread!

Both are still WIP, the mega-dread needs gs'ing and plasticarding to remove the last traces of GK'ness, as well as some extra detail, but overall i'm happy with that model. the meka-dread needs alot of work, since i need to scratch build a shunta and a KFF.

thanks for the comments guys! glad ya like 'em

So this is one of my few posts without progress, because i'm working wierd hours and on other projects, however i've been considering my orks future...

in a few weeks i have a apoc game.... and i've been considering making two new units.

The first is Ork Roks. i'm thinking of making ork drop pods effectivly. av 11/11/11, drop capacity 30, cost; 70 points. +5 points for each big shoota built in, with a max of three. immobile vehicle, with the ability to deliver d6 str 10 hits to anything beneath it. it if lands on a super heavy/monstro creature it rolls an additional d6 scatter from the nearest edge (i.e so you can't scatter onto of it again)

The second is a Boss dread and wyrd dread... my thoughts are, if a warboss is crazy enough he could convince his mek to make him a mega dread. i haven't worked out the specific details, other than he'd grant Waaaaagh to his fellow dreads.
the wierdboy dread however... is a neet idea i think. When it suffers perils of warp (at ld 10 since any ork strapped into a mechanical death machine will get alot more confident) or rolls a 1 on the powers table it suffers a glancing hit.

what do we think?

Most things (okay, Drop Pod and Stormraven?) that drop from orbit seem to be at least AV12 and I think you could argue up to AV14 for it. If they came in different sizes, perhaps AV12 for 12, AV13 for 20 and AV14 for 30. Thing is - holding thirty, it would be huge! If AV14 seems a bit much for Orks, it could always count as destroyed at the end of the battle for VP purposes.

Equip it with the equivalent of a Deffrolla (that gives your D6 S10 hits) and I would be inclined to treat its deep strike like a Tank Shock/Ram - inflicting a single S10 hit on anything it hits, as well as itself - even if it only hits the ground. As per the counts-as Deffrolla, you would get 2D6 S10 hits if the target chose to Death or Glory

No idea on what would be appropriate points costing for that though!

Just random thoughts - take from it what you will (or don't)

Hm... what if it counts as destroyed (for VP) but difficult terrain for the opponent, and terrain for you? So it lands and becomes a hill/cave/what have you terrain piece... with gun emplacements.

Also, what about a one shot heavy flamer instead of landing gear. My thinking here is a mek wanted more of da boyz to survive being dropped from space (without wasting all those grots as cushions) so he installs a well 'uge explosive fiery whatsit on the bottom of da rok. So when it's about to land the explosion goes of underneath and slows it down a bit, could have some fun misfire results too. Maybe a demo charge instead of a tankshokk.

+1 to this terrain idea, like a falling bastion for the orks, and i reckon that armour 12 all around would be fair as well

Automatically Appended Next Post:
oh and i think the warboss dread is a lot more feasable then the warp head one. just because i would think it would be more likly of a warboss to have the teeth to get a mega dread made and actually want to be in it, where as warpboyz are in fluff kinda strange. but yea either would be very very cool

Ok before i post what i've managed to paint in the last few days, after 7 year's i've finally got rid of photobucket. The relentless un-mutable ads (which i then got ad-block for), insistance on making me like images to there website, and general crappyness have pushed me to far. I liked the service as was, i'm happy to be advertised to in return for a good service, but i'm not a product who'll sit there because he has no options. Btw, some more stuff is coming, i'm currently putting together the first deff kopta squad.

I've spent the past 3 days mostly building my army, and testing it out on monday. Tabled grey knights, 11vps to 1vp. The army, it turns out, is damned impressive.

So say hello to my imgur debut.What i've been painting this week;

Ok guys, since i'm committing to orks for the foreseeable future (with the exception of Dark Elves in march/april) i'm gearing up for my next years apoc matches so i don't have to worry about pulling an army out of my backside. I did originally plan to bring an Emperor Class Titan next year, but i'm not sure i have the energy for that. We'll see.

I have however picked up a stompa for £40, which means i am going to arm it like a good stompa should be armed. Here's the loadout; I'm using the IA8 Kustom Stompa rules;

Da Belcha of Gork!

Custom Stompa
Left arm; Deth Kannon with ko-axil gigashoota, shoulder mounted kannon
right arm; Lifta Droppa, shoulder mounted kannon
Hull mounted flamebelcha, Powerfield, Deff arsenal, Red paint job

780pts

and the stompa, with its right arm removed.

Can't go wrong with the basics. It also helps i'm aiming to turn them into Deff Skwardon one day.

It's time for the long awaited update.

For the past week or so i've been writing list after list to build a tournie army for an upcoming competition. I settled on one last thursday and have been building/ordering the parts to complete it. So far i'm only waiting on a special trukk and boys to arrive from different manufactures (it isn't a GW run affair) so i can complete the list. At present however here's where it stands;

Quite a lot to paint, and alot of modelling to do. Heres a lovely list of what's to arrive/do;

1.paint, plasticard and a few other accessories are due.
2. Loot the Vegence battery's
3. Paint the ork squads.
4. Finish 'da secret' dakka jet in the middle. I'll give you a clue as to who the pilot is.... or better yet; it's Killboy himself!
5. re-paint captain Squigglybeard as he got re-modelled for WYSIWYG purposes.
6. Finish the Half-trakk trukk once the plasticard gets here
7. Add a few more details and points of interest on the second battlewagon.

I think that's everything, though i have till the first/second week of january to get it all modelled and either painted or at least base coated.

Wish me luck...

Gitzkrieg has got a new ally. Da Grox Populi.

Following some 'taktikal disgussionz with da boyz' Gitzkriegs Warbosses has realised they might not have enough bodies or fire power. This dismayed them, but there were rumours.

Still wanted by a host of Warbosses, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... Da Grox Populi!

Seriously though, my army has no ranged fire power and anti-air for av 12's that's reliable. The solution... use the whores of the 41st millenium, the Imperial guard. I've switched out a Big Mek, Dakka jet and trukk squad for a Vendetta, Lord comissar, and 25 strong infantry platoon with 5 grenade launchers. A good trade I feel.

Here's what's on my desktop for the weekend;

Yeah, you can see i have a lot of work to do this week. I have to rebuild a battery chaos vendetta into an orkish contraption, i have to paint 30 orks, finish Killboyz dakkajet, finish the paint of the second WYSIWYG dakkajet. On the other hand i quite like the test models for the grotz populi given my limited bitzbox for them. I've also got some new dice to i have enough for the average shooting per squad.

Thanks mate, there's going to be a big update for them in the next few days, with any luck.

Ok, it's quite like but i've managed to cobble together a little more work on the vendetta. I've built some Kustom Lazzappa's for the vendetta, i've got some old LED's i installed for a chaos project re-wired, and i've added an on/off button (because it's a hastle to take a 9V out of the body of thing every time i want it turned off) and added the basics for the crew.

It's not much, in fact it looks very amaturish, but stick with me... i gotz a vision of da finks ta come!

Another quick update, managed to get some basic sheeting down for the vendetta's hull and added a light switch. I've also managed to get the vengeance battery's looking a little bit more looted.

I don't think we'll be looking at a proper update till next week, but at the current rate i could have the entire army build and ready for paint by the end of next week.

Jan 6th is getting closer, but i'm ready.
