Ok, so I saw a different thread which was asking about the most annoying moment of your wargaming life. And that got me thinking about my best time so now i ask what was your best moment in wargaming ? Mine personally was when I was playing a 2v2 500pts per player game .It was Tau (me) with Orks against Space Marines. I wont go into detail but I wiped out one of my opponents 500pts by turn 3, leaving him with nothing to do other than watch. Also the best part is that I didn't receive a single casualty only a wound on my commander. Also I did all this with just 1 battle suit my commander and his bodyguard. Also in that same game first turn my one of opponents had a chapter master and the other had a captain both with orbital bombardments needless to say they both aimed at the Orks and both scattered off the board.

In a 2 vs. 1 game, 2000pts per side, my opponent had a thousand sons sorcerer on an objective, and it was being contested with my allies Trukk. If he has managed to take the objective he would have won, so he cast a power, I think it was called bolt of change, and exploded the Trukk.
The explosion then killed the sorcerer making the game a draw.
My luckiest escape from defeat ever.

When 5 assault marines assaulted a group of 12(?) termagants sitting on an objective. They were within synapese and it was the last turn of the game. He expected them to wipe out the termagants due to fearless wounds, and was quite surprised when he killed only 2 guys and i wiped out 3 in return. The assault marines then fled and the gants caught them, keeping the objective in my control and giving me the win. Was a good game that was.

20 guardsmen and a CCS held their own against a squad of 5 grey knight termanators and a uber captain (can't remember which one it was). After 2 turns locked in combat my guys fell back leaving creed in combat against 4 + their Grand Master. Creed made it to my enemys close combat turn but bit the dust. The flank was almost gone but my outflanking rough riders turned up and massecred all of them. 75pt unit killed an almost 400pt unit. with that unit gone my enemy had no chance of breaking my IG lines.

My best moment was recently with playtesting against a friend for 'Ard Boyz. He's playing an Inquisitorial Forces army out of the Grey Knight Codex and is running 3 Stormravens. In 3 previous games, I had succeeded in only ever killing 1 or 2 Stormravens, maybe getting the 3rd one towards the end of the game, but usually not, and thoroughly having my butt kicked.
In a game last week, he made a stupid tactical mistake and kept his storm ravens off the board and they didn't move on until bottom of 3. Meanwhile, I had blown apart his rhinos he had put on the board. After his storm ravens moved on, I exploded one. Next turn, I exploded and wrecked the other two. It felt pretty darn good... Though he was quite pissed >.>

Hmm, let me think, I have a few awesome moments.
One which I mentioned in another thread was when my squad of Flash Gitz, units I know to be kinda garbage but took anyway, shot at a Bloodthirster. The player was adamant that it had 5 wounds, something I knew to be crap, but didn't really care, in fact, I RELISHED the opportunity to show how awesome I am. The Flash Gitz, whom I completely upgraded, took all 20 of their shots. 16 hit, which is friggin' preposterous with the awesomeness that is Ork shooting. After rolling to wound, got 8 to wound, which is actually more in line with what I should get, considering S6. Now, when rolling for AP, I got a 2, so that deprived the Bloodthirster of its armour save. She then failed 5 of her 8 4+ invulnerables. Hoorah, Bloodthirster was down in the first turn. I won the game eventually, had some memorable moments too, like Bloodletters charging my Ork Boyz, and proceeding to die.
Lemme think, oh, another time is when my friend, a Tyranid player, decided to get all fluffy and make an army heavily dependent on his Shrikes. Cue my two squads of Destroyers giving the Shrikes some green color, vaping it the first turn. He then ragequit.
Ooooh, and this one time, I had to make 19 5++ saves with Bloodletters against Imperial Guard, and I made 11. Was awesome.
Those are just a few moments I recall.

Not my game but still good...
Apocalypse game, 2x Guard and 2x Necons I think it was 10 or 15.000 points game. NEcron objective was to only have 1 infantry in the middle and hold it for 2 turns. On the middle was 1 Necron lord and around 20 warriors. The Guard players both decide to turn their 20 Basilisk and powned the middle. After 20 Earthshakers all were killed - except the Necron Lord who was in the open now. And they decide to kill him now and then rush with Guardsman. And after another barrage of 20 Basilisk on the Necron Lord he survived all of them and won the game ( did I mentioned that only 3 shots fired missed him? ).
Now he has a nickname - golden umbrella

My two favs happened in the same game years ago (during 2nd edition):
1) Cyclone missile launcher fully fired for the big massive template over my unit of 20 purestrain genestealers and not a single 'stealer died.
2) Facing a "space wolves army" that included 2 units of space wolf termies, 2 leman russ tanks and a ton of other army special characters (annoying 2nd edition force). Lone genestealer attacked a leman russ, got a penetrating hit on the track and caused the tank to flip over and land on all of the special characters that were hiding near it killing them all.

WARNING! The following is based on actual events.
SM vs. GK
Annihilation
Bottom of turn 7 - SM kill points: 2 GK kill points 6
It's the assault phase. The only way for me to win is to table the GK player. He has exactly one Paladin left on the table and he's locked in combat with the single TH/ SS terminator that's left of my assault terminator squad.
Hits are exchanged... I wound once with my thunder hammer...
The whole game comes down to a single die roll. If the Paladin makes his 5+ invulnerable save, the GK's win. If the Paladin fails... I win.
The die hits the table, bounces, rolls a little ways (it's epic, silent, and seems to last forever like the final die roll from that Robin Williams movie Jumanji)... The die stops, teeters on its axis and lands... two.

After a couple decades playing this game in its various editions, one of the most memorable moments occured last year when playing my Vanilla Marines against a Blood Angel player. I had a unit of 10 Scout Snipers sitting on top of a building plinking away at the various Blood Angel units when Astrogath the Grim came jump packing into their midst on turn 2. When Astrogath left the roof he had killed all the scouts but he was there until turn 6 and had only one wound left.
Had less to do with my luck or ability and more to do with my opponents inability to hit or wound my scouts. Of course that Astrogath model was somewhat unlucky as in an earlier game against me (actually his intiial appearance in our games I believe) he deepstruck from reserves and face planted into a rocky outcrop like Wil E Coyote.

Second was my marshal and his command sqd of termies with HF drop podded in behind a squad of big mek's flamed and destroyed all 3 he then assaulted me with the other squad I diddn't take a single wound but destroyed the other 3 then walked around flaming boys squads

They wounded him on the first turn (Pushing combat since the Prince only killed 1 Pathfinder), holding fast the second turn after losing 4 Pathfinders (Needing a 4 and rolling a 3 for their Ld check), and the Shas'ui squad leader not taking a wound on the third turn.

This one's not miine, but from some guy from this same site. He was playing Apoc, I think (I don't know too much about Apoc), IG versus orks. So the ork guy sent some Tankbustas against one of his tanks. The kill the tank and one guardsman gets off the thing. Now, the orks assaulted the poor guardsman. He got hit 17 times... And got all his armor saves Now, that was the last turn of the game and there was this rule that said that if the tank crew isn't killed, the tank mdoesn't count for victory points. The guard won just by those points.

Really diggin that last bit.
Too bad it reminds me of this one time my Farsight got stuck with some fire warriors in combat with 5 scarabs, but for the life of me those scarabs wouldn't dare fail their "failed combat" saves for over 3 turns and somehow eventually dragged down the "ever whiffing attacks" Farsight. I'd have to say my best moments in 40k were when i got the basilisk in my ig army. for two reasons (I tend to overdo it on upgrading so had/have a bad casual army) 1st the first match i played my friend with the basilisk in, in which i narrowly won 5-4 killpoints. I loved the moment so much because we played on a smaller sized board than normal and he owns Space wolves which equalled bad for me. and also because that same day we had finished secondary school and had a full english breakfast as a celebratory dinner, were joyful and then this match, this glorious match turned up and just exhausted me for the day. Its also because of this i was able to memerise the whole battle straight away and wrote a battle report of the top of my head to my other friend later on.
The second would be in a recent game where i was set to play csm in a 2000 points. but then was vs.ing a horde ork army (same person) which was better cause i include mostly flamers in my army (and in the list i wrote i had a hellhound,2lrbt's, a basilisk and a medusa) so i was certanly fine with the hast change. the next day when i showed up to vs him there was a 3rd change of plan. it was my new-mech ig 2000pts with horde army 2000pts against tau 2000 and sm 2000. now hears a heads up, the sm player bought most of his models at once and doesnt even know most of the rules. he ended up being a little over 2000 (by about 300pts, 'little') and the tau player under by about 500-600. I, in the rush of craters and lack of space instinctively placed long range weps all around (making 4hvy supports, which tau player had also done.) the whole thing ended up taking about an hour to setup and one turn in i had wiped 3 squads of tau (all pie plates hit) off the field. orky had placed himself in diff terrain and made slow progress but provided brilliant cover for me. in turn 2 for some reason i can't remember the sm player was demoralised and didnt want to play anymore. i didnt even get a chance to put my platoon on the field!! bearing in mind i had manufactured half my army by paper cut outs which will come later.
in the end the final game ened up being me and my sw friend against orks and tau. tau player didnt really want to play against me again but was a good sportsman and still played. we got 2 turns in (during the sm player returned and repeatedly asked who was winning) and in which nearly all pieplates hit again (a rather different spot of luck i was having today) mostly on the orks aso with the hellhound doing its bit as well as the MoO for once. in total this was not best enough as my best moment when another guy showed up looked at the pieces of paper on the board said "whats these? these won't do" wandered off brought back a HUGE box, opened it and pulled out a chimera a hellhound 2 leman russes and a chimera to use as the medusa. this is the best moment in my gaming life., the pure good heartedness of others when it comes to the game.

Reminds me of a very memorable battle I watched once, Orks vs. Tau. The Tau player managed to charge a near-full squad of Kroot into a 5-man squad of Loota Boyz, in terrain. The Lootaz hit back, killed half of them, and the Kroot didn't do anything. They ran, and the next turn the Lootaz killed the rest of them as they fled. Just another testament to the uselessness of Kroot (especially when luck is not on their side!).

Bob Thraka.
I have a policy--whenever something truly awesome happens on the field, I name my little war dudes. So far, only one mind-alteringly awesome event of pure win has occurred, and it was me (Orks) vs Grey Knights (old 'dex).
It's around turn 4, and at that time in my gaming career I fielded horde orks. Naturally they'd been torn to gak at that time, and of a 30 boy squad, only their nob and 6 slugga boyz remain. Grey Knights are on top of their wrecked Trukk, bringing what ranged weapons to bear that they can. Knocks off 3 boyz. Not within assault range, so they can't make it. But I can.
We move forward and fire out a volley of slugga rounds. Takes out two GK terminators--three menacing figures (no pun intended) remain on their busted ride. They rush in and charge, and the boyz do nothing in combat. Grey Knights whiff in CC, and the Nob remains. He swings and connects with all of his attacks. GK player rolls his saves and results in a 1, 1, 1, 2. Bob Thraka wiped them all.
Now, at this point I'd like to mention that at the time, it was a losing battle. I was down by at least 5 KP and would have had to table him with what little forces I had left. Wasn't going to happen. But, in that moment, Bob Thraka was born. He hasn't died in a game yet.

Then my wyches with +1 attack combat drugs, FNP and hydra gauntlets (which somehow always gave me +6 attacks) caused a unit of nobs with a big mek to flee, but they couldn't get them as they was also in combat with a deff dread. Then of course the game ended, the fleeing nobs and mek giving me one more kp than the orks had.

Got a new one to add, was playing 50,000 apocalypse, gave a marshal and 4 cmd squad termies in a drop pod (total cost about 300 points) a void grenade, deep struck them 1 inch off opponents table edge didn't scatter and were 6" away from abbadon, typhus, bile, the tzeneech guy can't remember his name, they were all clustered, threw the grenade hit them all and they all disappeared, as soon as he removed them he quit, this was turn 1 btw. And we had 1st turn. Once he quit the other players on his team added points to his remaining.
In subsequent turns the void grenade killed 3 tyranid warriois with lash whip bonesword turn 2, a hive tyrant kitted out and 2 hive guard turn 3, all 4 masters of the chapter (before using there abilities) turn 4, and last but not least inflicted 3 wounds on the Khorne greater daemon from FW. And through this all not a single member of the Marshall and his cmd squad died but did kill lots of tyranids and in turn 5 charged and killed the greater daemon.

When I first fielded Mephiston against a Tau friend, he got so overworked about him, ended up drawing all the fire from his army.Lived through all 4 turns of it, barely made it with 1 wound left I lost barely any other units in that game
Reaction: Priceless

My best moment? killing an entire squad of Striking Scorpions with my Khorne Lord wielding a Daemon Weapon, first 3 attacks then 1 extra for having a mark of Khorne, then 1 extra for charging, and 2d6 because of the daemon weapon. i roll'd 5 and 6 that means 16 attacks, half of them got in and gone was his Scorps

Got a new one, with a few runner-ups, thanks to my tournament this weekend: 3rd place: A lone fire warrior lasts 3 rounds of CC against a full sisters squad, winning combat once(but they passed their Ld check) before finally being smushed. 2nd Place: A lone broadside lasts 2 rounds of combat against Marbo, pushing combat with no wounds on either side, before he deals a single wound on Marbo in the 3rd combat round without taking any in return. Marbo fails his Fearless armor save, and I now have a Broadside i need to model a bandana and explosive bow and arrow onto... 1st Place: A lone Fire Warrior Shas'la (Soon to be Shas'vre) watched his five comrades around him melt into puddles of armor and bubbling flesh from a trio of Flamers of Tzeentch, but remained firm, lifted his pulse rifle, and proceeded to double tap a Daemon Prince of Khorne right between the eyes, knocking off it's final wound and earning himself the name Mont'lel, the Death-lightning.

Third edition: In an RTT, I ran CSM army led by 2 Siren Lieutenants on bikes, 30 Daemonettes, 6 Daemonettes on steeds, 3 Obliterators, and 1 Defiler.
The other participants wanted to lynch me in advance for this list. In fact, I won the tourney and all participants were pissed off but it was big fun for me.

It may not be mine but I love this. My friend was playing tau as defenders in Planetstrike, and the opponent was playing GK.My friend was using the Aun'va,for an unkwown reason(I dared him to).Guess who drops in to say "die"?Draigo. Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights assaults his Aun'va. Draigo proceedes to roll 5 misses and even his reroll didn't hit. Aun'va rolls all 5s for hits and 6s for wounds. Draigo fails 1 save, and his morale test. Sweeping Advance,Draigo rolls a 1 and Aun'va rolls another 6. My friend was like this

Several of my funy moments
#1: BA (me) vs. Ultrasmurfs
Spearhead
Capture and Control
Using my Assualt squad and tactical squad in my rhino I feinted towards his objective, his response was to mass fire them and drop Calgar with his 10-man tactical marine drop pod next to my objective. What I wanted. Used my 2x 5 Man termi squads (One with captian other with libby) to hit his objective and the defending tactical squad (Now only 6 guys left ) charges Calgar. Eventually after three rounds they were gone as were 2 of Calgar's wounds and his retinue. By this stage i had his objective. Now my rhino turns and fires at Calgar, taking him out winning me the game.
Me:

#2: BA (me again) vs. Tau
Spearhead
Annihlation
Playing against a Tau list with 3 HH and Xv8's jumping around everywhere. Turn 1 my scout squad get shot leaving just the Seargeant with an annoying guy bitching at me for not going to ground. My assualt marines also take three casulties but i rolled a one for red thirst. Turn 2, Mephistion and his 15 DC and LRC deepstrike right infront of hammerhead #1, Assault Marines manage to assualt HH#2 and the surviving scout sarge maanges to charge HH#3. HH#1 get destroyed by the LRCs AC, HH#2 gets ripped apart by Furious charging Assualt marines (4 die in the explosion), HH#3 gets hit with a meltabomb by the Scout and is destroyed. He gets gunned down ny fire warrions. Mephisty and his DC proceed to win the game.
#3 IF (me) vs. Daemons
Dawn of War
Annihlation
DoW deployemnt. Only unit on the field is my unit of Scouts. throughout the eintire game run rings around his plague bearers then act as bait and draw Ku'Gash and Skarbrand into a crossfire. He bloodcrushers hide in a building allowing my scouts the time to pick them off with their SR instead of charging straight for them. On his turn one his Khorne DP was reduced to one wound adn one of my LS sniped a SG. In the end Ku'Gath killed himself with his necrotic(?) missiles. Final score
Imperium:7
Daemons:0
He didn't hit combat once and never inflicted a single wound. I only came close to losing a model when my PC overheated on turns 3 adn 4.
#4 IF vs. CSM (Khorny)
Basically when i started using my LS, one flew too close to some possessed and immbilized dread. Possessed were about to charge the LS when they wiped out by the HF on the dread. ( FF).
#5 CSm (me) vs. Ultrasmurfs
Dawn of War
Annihlation
Same Ultraboys player (Not using Calgar this time) Droppods another tact squad to take out my CSm squad with melta which was in a building. After two rounds of a firefight the CM retinue are gone for 4 CSms. The CM then takes a melt round to the face. He rolls a 2 for his invunerable.

I have a one similar to this but without the non-casualties. It was against an eldar friend when i think he assaulted me with something and a couple turns tied up yarrick and an inf. I managed to kill them but taking my squad out too. ayarrick then moved just outside the ark of fire the d-cannons he had shot at a unit of dark reapers killed one assaulted killed all of them and consolodated a 6" back out of the firing range. Nothing i had on the field went within 24" of them rendering them useless.

It happened earlier today in fact.
Konrad Curze, using Mephiston's rules, flew into combat with an Ork warboss and his nob bodyguard on the first turn and cut them all down before they could even raise a weapon (using the Sanguine sword power). If that had been it it would have been impressive enough, but after that brilliant Assassination he was mobbed by two Ork boy squads, which together totalled 50 models. I expected that to be it and for him to be pulled down by sheer weight of numbers, but Curze obviously didn't agree. Amazingly, defying all the odds he somehow managed to hold of 50 Ork boys for three turns until he was saved by an Assault squad's timely intervention.
It was exactly like something out of a Heresy novel, a lone Primarch flying into the center of a mass of Orks and holding off the swarm single-handedly, only to be saved at the last minutes by his reinforcements.

My favourite moment has to come from Chaplain Cassius holding back a 2 squads of Genestealers on his own for 3 turns while my Sternguard (the old twv models)dealt with 2 tervigons and a hive tyrant before rescueing the old warhorse and allowing him to flame a squad of termigants into non-existance. A stellar performance worthy of his backstory I thought

Some days ago, me and 2 friends played a small battle, both them against me. It was CSM (me), GK and BA. I managed to wipe out almost all BA, but one damn single BA with a meltagun survived to several rounds of firing from my termies and my blight drones... and he destroyed my 2 drones -.- and survived to the end of the battle!

My best moment in 40k is when an enemy shadowsword fired and scattered back onto itself. Chain reaction, apocolypse explosion. 1500 points of guard lost. the shot's original target: 8 hormagaunts.
(to be fair, they were the largest concentration of units left and the heavy weapon teams should have finished off the isolated 'nids that weren't locked in cc.)

Lets see there are two that come to mind the first is when I was playing a three way fight vs death guard and marines with a big deathwatch squad ally(back in 4th). My army was stuck in between and got wasted so all I had left was a vindicator, but that vindi went on to take out a bunch of plague marines and plague daemons and wounded both a daemon prince and greater daemon. Then turned to the other army and butchered the expensive deathwatch squad and took out some other stuff. I didn't win that game but I went out in a blaze of glory. I even put a gold laural on the cannon for his good fight. The second was when I used my stompa for the first time against a friend in a 3000 pts battle. That thing layed waste to everything in sight it was glorious, and when it finally died it went apocalyptic and wiped out a bunch of other stuff it was a ton of fun.

A squad of Plague Maines in a Rhino got ambushed by a 30-man IG blob with meltaguns. They busted the rhino, killing one, then charged. After a couple rounds of assault there were 9 guardsmen, including one Commissar and 3 sergeants with power weapons vs a lone Plague Marine with a combat knife and bolt pistol.
The combat contined for 3 turns until the end of turn 6 when the Plague Marine finally killed the Commissar, the last remaining model for the IG.
He got a promotion.

i think my "best 40k moment" in memory was when...
I flanked an expensive Battle wagon(with a Deffrola) + (with a MAW and a big boy squad) with an assault squad (+jump pack Chaplin) and a TH captain +command squad.
i wanted to at least immobilize it so it couldn't use the deffrolla on my guys
i assaulted with both squads, it moved about 9' in the ork turn so i needed 6's to hit the thing .managed to surround the whole thing with all my guys and got a wreck result off the chaplain's power fist.......
The boys and the MAW could not disembark because i had the BW surrounded.
all the orks ended up burning to death inside the Wreckage.
needless to say... my friend was not to happy about that.

In a fight against Necrons my opponant had managed to destroy my Vindicator in 1 hit, and I had nothing left after a round or 2 to kill his monolith with anything but a series of 6's. He'd managed to pop one of my rhinos the previous turn and decided to finish the job. Scattered onto himself, 6 to pen, 5 to damage. AP1 for the hole being over the hull made it explode, which also killed several of the necrons close to him. Phased him out a round later due to those losses. We both laughed our butts off after he got over it

Had these two happen the other night, playing 40k with the buddies in a more casual setting.
After their transport blew up, some Grey Hunters were surrounded by three different squads in a Chaos Space Marine list - a full squad of Marines, and 2 partial squads of Berzerkers. On my (the Wolves) turn, I shot and charged one of the mini squads, knocking it down to 1 man without losing a single model. About three rounds later, my Hunters are still in there, whittling down all 3 squads to nothing, until the berzerkers both die, and the CSMs run. At one point he even charged a 1-wound Greater Daemon into the fray, and one Grey Hunter uppercut it in the jewels before it could swing. Twas a great moment
The other one was when my Orks were facing off against my own Wolves, running Njal. The Meganobz squad wreaks some havoc, but one turn they get caught out of combat and Njal is in a perfect position to hit 4 of them with Jaws of the World Wolf. He passes, and hits all four. The initiative rolls go down, and...
1, 1, 1, 1. Never have I been so happy to see so many 1s in a row.

Most epic moments? I have a few, but here's a couple off the top of my head:
My first game against BA using IG...a squad of Veterans get charged by a full unit of Assault Marines. The veterans, with only a Sarge, lascannon, and vox, walk away victorious.
Same game as above - another set of vets nailed a termie Chaplain with a lascannon and ID'd him once he decided he could walk across the table.
Second game against BA, on turn two: my armoured sentinel with a Missile is lanced by a furioso dreadnaught....the furioso rolled snake eyes for the psychic check and failed to glance my sentinel, but blew his own force weapon off due to perils. The BA player proceeds to charge my walker, as well as a tac squad w/ a PF. Two turns later, the Death Company's rage draws them into CC as well. Turn 6, my sentinel is finally killed after managing to kill a couple tac marines.
Billy did his job that day, as 65 points held off 515 points. I still lost that game, but Billy did an epic job.
In a team game with IG(me) and old DE vs Eldar and Chaos, Billy (the sentinel from the above story) fired krak missiles at a Wraithlord starting turn one. At the end of turn 3 the wraithlord was dead. Yes. My 65 pt, BS 3 sentinel made SIX consequtive 4+'s to hit and wound the enemy Wraithlord.
Then in another team game, IG & SW vs the same DE and Chaos from the above story...Turn one my heavy bolter vet squad fires throught multiple windows at a unit of Reavers after getting the order "Fire on my Target!"...all three shots hit and wounded, the DE player passed all cover saves, then rerolled and failed them. The Reaver squad then promptly fails their ld check and flees off the table before even being able to move. That same game, a Basalisk fired indirect at a chaos rhino I wanted dead....the shot scatterd of course....right onto another rhino and promptly blew it up.
And my final story for now...in a team game, DA(me) and GK vs Necrons and Daemons....the GK and I won first turn. So, with no daemons on the field yet, we lay into the necrons. Having nothing better to target, my 3 TLLC razorbacks fired on the monolith. Even after rerolls, only one hit. Expecting nothing to happen, I roll for pen. 6. I pen....so i roll to see what happens. 6. It explodes....i roll to see how far....6. 6...6...6... Three back to back 6's from a razorback....on the top of turn one. My poor necron buddy....he was screwed after that....
In any event, my razorbacks did the same thing the next time i faced my Necron friend. As such, one razorback earned its paint job, and the other has a freehand monolith painted on its side.
