This thread is slightly inspired by the best of the bad. But what about the mindless hulking creatures that are kinda of not evil but still want to destroy the human race?
Choose which one freaked you out the most and/or gave you nightmares/ or you thought was just awesome.
Well basically what is your favorite/most loved monster from TV, Movies, and Video Games?
Of course I am going to start things off with 5 monsters. 2 of which are from doctor who...
The Silence
The Weeping Angels
EL- Gigante
Reavers from Firefly...
And last but not least.... The lord of terror himself.
I don't know why but he is a great Monster himself and an Evil Jerk...
Diablo

Godzillia may be the biggest. But not everyone will agree.
Godzilla is clearly the most awesome.
Agreed, Godzilla can cause millions of dollars in property damage just by turning around...and that's before he even really gets started wrecking stuff.
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and in stranger aeons, even death may die.

AND he fits in every fiction genre ever. Fantasy? Throw in some Cthulu. Sci-fi? Throw in some Cthulu. Noir fiction? Throw in some Cthulu. Historical fiction based on the English Civil War? Why, everything is better with Cthulu!

I have some skeptikism on this one. Because he was defeated by strawberry short cake.
plus he only appears on southpark twice. So my question is does he really count as a monster because he is a god. not a monster. So Blam.

Have you ever read the Call of the Cthulhu?
thats not a movie, nor a video game nor in a tv show. So does not count

False. There is at least one Call of Cthulhu video game, and they have made Cthulhu movies. He has also been referenced in countless games, movies, and tv shows. Besides, you go and tell Cthulhu he doesn't count. Oh, wait, you can't because as soon as you catch sight of him, your sanity is completely obliterated and you die instantly.
Cthulhu wins. Nyah nyah na boo boo, stick yer head in doo doo.
Also, Cthulhu is not a god, technically, but compared to us humans, he is. As we might treat an ant colony, so does great Cthulhu view us mere humans.
Cthulhu is beyond petty concepts such as "good" and "evil". Cthuhlu is, was, and shall be. He was ancient when the world was young. He ruled the earth aeons ago, and he shall reign again soon. Those who recognize his supremacy will be granted a swift and merciful death. The rest.... not so much.
Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Cthulhu is so horrific that looking at statues of him is enough to drive you insane.

At first, I thought the Cloverfield monster was supposed to be Cthulhu until they started showing more shots of it.
The cat in the hat has always honestly terrified me ever since I saw the one with the austin powers dude in it. Then again though, I think that Dakota Fanning was the monster of that movie
Though you never directly confront him, and he isn't very imposing, the fact that he's subtly pulling the strings and controlling most of the occurances throughout the game makes him one of the most terrifying creatures ever conceived.
That, and his design in itself is incredibly unnerving.
Either Cthulhu or Dagon, Cthulhu more though. And yes, he does count. 4 movies, (with about 6 based on his premise) 5 books, a whole stack of video games and tv show references. RPG games, and even a musical.....Why yes, there sure is a Shoggoth on the Roof.

Agreed, and props for throwing in some Metallica lyrics too!
And oh so many more! the first couple I love now, but it took me a while to find it! one of the best franchises i've had the pleasure of following over the years! although number 5 did make me feel 'odd' and i still won't watch it alone!
I'm sure I recall seeing an interview with the guy who created Godzilla a few years ago. When asked what he thought of this modern film version, he said that was what he had originally envisaged Godzilla to look like, but he (Godzilla) ended up how he did because they needed a design whereby they could dress a guy up in the appropriate custume (obviously no computer generated effects back in the 50's when Godzilla first hit the screens) - I should also point out that the guys who have acted as Godzilla in said costumes and went round crushing model cities officially had the coolest job ever!

possibly on of the coolest jobs ever...the coolest being doing that while winning the lottery and getting to swat remote controlled planes!

Go netflix The Never Ending Story.
ineptus astartes wrote:I seen stuff by Metallica! it was all pr0nz and puking and beer and gak!
None of that has anything to do with Metallica. Go youtube One, Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam, or some of their earlier stuff.
it was when they mangled 'whiskey in the jar' I was offended! My ancestors sang that while they got drunk! Toastedandy probably still does!
Dude, that cover was one of the best I've ever heard. If you wanna take on who mangled it, take it up with Thin Lizzie!!
Anyways, back OT....Not sure if anyone has mentioned the Pirahnas from the film of the same name.... Great, mindless killing machines. Not to mention Kelly Brook in faux lesbian action!
Automatically Appended Next Post: @Ineptus, no mate, that's a Tremor Worm from the film Tremors.
IIRC they could follow vibrations made by footsteps, cars, even loud voices and follow them. Then they would pop out of the ground and WHAM! You are worm food....
Ive got a couple that scared the outa me as a kid and seeing as the earth is mainly water given enough time it could eat gojirra or cthulu
I was afraid to swim at camp cause i thought this would happen
Spoiler:
not sure why but he always gave me a good scare too.
Please do NOT watch Nancy Grace I'm warning you. You immediately feel your face melt off as you become a zombie of the "OMG a White Kid in suburbia was killed and OMGF the mom did it" cult.
Ineptus the one thing you posted was from a book, and what monster are you saying zombies? Zombies are the ultimate badass? Good book yes, and soon to be crappy movie also true but i fail to see where they are "Greatest".
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die" is, actually, from Lovecraft, which Metallica (quite appropriately) used in their song. So technically I was either quoting Lovecraft or quoting Metallica quoting Lovecraft. Still an awesome song.
And dude, that tar skeleton guy from Return of the Living Dead, or whatever... I actually hadn't seen that movie til maybe a couple years ago, like a recently enough that I was an adult, and I still found that guy really, really, really fething creepy.

Cthulu is cool, but he's just an elder priest and the stars are always wrong so he never does anything ever.
And for the record, Metallica kick ass and Kiss are just plain ass......
No Im with ineptus astartes, Metallica sucks ass. They made maybe 2 good cd's and thats it, and both those are pushing near 30 years old. Seriously, they suck, search your self, youll realize it eventually
And to add to the thread
From the first Jeepers Creepers. I say that only because like most decent monster movies, the sequels really fell off the shelf as far as being good goes. But the first one, now that guy was pretty classy.
And there was that bit in 'Amarican Gods' where the LA hooker swallows a man alive with her fanged sexual organs.
This is a good one. Creeped me the hell out. But a good omen of things to come in the book. She's the queen of Sheba, right?
Here's some nasty buggers:
I'll post more of mine when I've got more time.
God, I remember when those first appeared, I flipped out when Drake had to go into the dark, damp, cramped corridors of the submarine bunker.
I have a friend who will never, ever, ever play the COD: Nazi Zombies (Which he loves doing) unless there is a friend over, first time he played it he was freaked out of his mind.
The Biggy Man, while not terrifying, is definately a pulse pounding fight in Splatterhouse 2010.
WARNING, NSFW
Spoiler:
just some FYI, Splatterhouse is based on Cthulu mythos, for those of you whom that matters. Also, despite this dude being full health/Necro Meter, he is damn terrible at the game :/
Based on a turbo graphix 16 game that featured a Jason rip off. I could be wrong tho.
I have heard my whole life how good HP lovecraft was , so i just recently read most ........taking into account the age still kinda sucked imo the only one that i kinda liked was
Also somebody put up the concept of the silence out of Doctor Who. Nicely designed, like most things in Doctor Who. But the choreography is frankly crap. All that curling up and chattering, so typical of doctor who. If they changed their choreographer they would be much better off.
Deathshead420 wrote:Based on a turbo graphix 16 game that featured a Jason rip off. I could be wrong tho.
No, your not wrong, but to be fair, Castlevania started out where they didn't know which evil creature to throw at you, and so had you fight them all, and now it has stuff like Legion in it. Warhammer 40K started out as a joke, but now is incredibly grim dark, and Bioshock was conceptualized as you being on an Island fighting Nazi's... Things change.
