Post by: Xenocidal Maniac

I've posted this army on another site, but thought I would share here. I am a new member here. Inspired by the vicious fluff for this chapter, I got started on it back in April. Here is what I have so far.

A little bit pic heavy, but I like to think it's worth it Hope you enjoy. C&C welcome.

Assault Squad 1

Sanguinary Priest

Razorback 1

HQ - Librarian or Counts-as Mephiston

AOBR Dred

Assault Squad 2

Razorback 2

Death Company Razorback (I am painting the Death Company now)

Blood-crazed Assault on an Unfortunate Loyalist Militia!

Sweet work! I've always had a problem getting dark red to pop. You did a great job with that. Also love how you inverted the black and red on the death company razorback to keep with the saw theme. Awesome!

You should post these pics as a gallery to be voted on.

Thanks everyone!

Gallery now up!! Votes much appreciated!!

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-48454-20157_Flesh%20Tearers.html

To those who asked for painting tutorials, here goes.

The red is very, very easy. I prime black. I base coat with P3 Sanguine Base. I highlight with GW Scab Red, and then a very fine highlight of GW Blood Red. Done.

The black is also super easy. I base with GW Chaos Black. Highlight with P3 Greatcoat Grey, extreme highlight with GW Codex Grey.

The skin is also easy. I base with P3 Cryx Bane Highlight, and then mix in white for the successive layers. I usually do about four highlight layers.

The bone, also super simple. Start with P3 Beast Hide, highlight with P3 Hammerfall Khaki, highlight again with P3 Jack Bone, extreme highlight with GW Bleached Bone.

Are there any other questions I forgot to answer? Please let me know.

Thanks for all the kind words!

The Chappie's helmet is a slightly modified Chaos Space Marine helmet. I just filed the arrow on the front down a little to look less "chaos-y". Then I snipped the halo off from one of the Sanguinary Guard helmets and glued it on. Voila!

Thanks for all the compliments, guys!

Fantastic painting man good looks! Loving the buzzsaw decal on the tanks is that all freehand?

The only thing i could suggest as critique is maybe throw some brown wash on the gold eagle on top of Chaplain Arjuna's staff, everything you do has great depth and that's the only thing that stands out as looking like one solid color.

Amazing stuff though keep posting!

Great work on the Seth conversion, you've captured the feel of him spot on, you certainly won't have to explain to anyone who he is!

I really really like your death company and chaplain. They have a (dare I say it) 'chaos' feel to them but that's definitely a good thing here. They look a lot more gothic than the standard builds.

I like the Termies too, I do however agree with the others about the chalice being a little too big but I don't think it's a major issue. Is it from Space Hulk?

One thing I would do is put some white on the TDA priest just to make him really pop out from the squad. Maybe his helmet and p/fist?

But keep up the great work, you've really captured the Tearer look.

Will be watching for more!

I agree and will be substituting the model when I get the time. I had a bunch of AoBR termies laying around, and just went for a quick conversion that was immediately identifiable as a Sang Priest. Thanks for the comments.

The buzzsaw on the tanks is indeed freehand. It's actually not as hard as it looks!

Thanks for the criticism on the gold. I agree with you. It actually does look better in person, but, I think it would benefit from a black wash or something to tone it down a bit.

Yeah, agreed on the chalice. It's not from Space hulk. It's actually the bell from the Vampire Counts Corpse Cart kit turned upside down, and then hole-punch plasticard on the bottom. It's a good idea on picking out some parts of his armor to differentiate him.

Thanks so much guys! It really makes my day to see the nice comments.

Just when one thinks it can't get any better...

You've very much captured the essence of the buzzsaw marines. These are the scariest 'good guys' I've seen. If somebody does a fandex for FT, then you really deserve to be in the gallery!

Another bitz question: how did you build the TL flamers for the razorback?

Very well executed style of conversions/painting throughout the entire army. The only one I was 'meh' with was Mephiston. I think the armor/robes get a bit muddled as they are the same color. It's well painted, but think a different color should have been used on the robes or armor to make both stand out more.

Overall, great work and thanks for sharing.

Thank you! The flesh is SUPER easy. All it is is P3's Cryx Bane Highlight paint used as a base. Then I just add straight white and layer it up about 3 times. Bam. Done. Then I will give the eye sockets a purple wash, and then the eyes a red wash. Easy peasy and it looks great.

Thanks! Yeah, the priest's face is weird just because that particular head is weird. It's from the Berserker sprue, so it's a pretty old model.

Peredyne wrote:Question: Did you do the chapter badge by hand or is it a decal? And if it's a decal, where did you get them?

Some of the chapter badges are by hand, but most of them are decals which I printed myself. You can find the files on The Bolter and Chainsword forum, although, I believe that GW now sells Flesh Tearer decals, so definitely support them if you can. Printing the decals is kind of a pain, to be honest. I will buy them from GW from here on out.

Really good work mate.

Thank you!!

Thanks! I stole it from Aghast on Warseer - all credit to him!

Thanks! Yeah, believe it or not, I do not use an airbrush. It's all brush work.

Darth Bob wrote:Bloody amazing (hehe, pun) Flesh Tearers, dude. Could you please give a tutorial for how you did the skin tone?

Sure, please see my response above.

reps0l wrote:Sanguine Bases, huh? I'll give it a shot. It looked a little too brown for me when I first saw the bottle of it.
Fantastic looking army, dude!

Yes, I use Sanguine Base straight from the bottle, no mixing. It does look a bit brown, but that's why it works. The Flesh Tearer red is supposed to be kind of a brownish "dirty" red.

Thank you! I have an update for you guys now!

Amasai looks really sinister. I love the helmet, I think it's a converted Chaos helmet.

May the Angels of Death watch over this project!

Thanks! It is, in fact, a Chaos helmet. If I recall correctly, it's the helmet from the Rhino gunner.

Wow! These models are sick! I love how all your converted characters, although plastic have resemblences to the original minis. Reds and gems look great, fantastic blog!
Shame you had to paint the SM casualty Ultramarine colours though

Yeah, thanks! I try to use the existing model as a base so that my opponents can easily tell at a glance who the characters are intended to be.

I was tired of painting Flesh Tearers and wanted a break when I made that SM casualty... when I was thinking about which chapter to do, well, it seemed fitting that an Ultramarine would need to be bailed out
