Perhaps, if I can find ways to represent them beyond psyker battle-squads.

Aye /tg/
Figured I needed to bring it to beyond /tg/ for proper feedback.
Thank you.

Updating my blog with my latest failure(?)
Tried to use Necrons to make a Heretek squad for use as Stormtroopers (Tech priest w/ Men of Iron salvaged drones) ... did not come out as I wanted. I have some people saying finish it up, but I already cut one Necron leg set up to the point its unuseable. I know bulking it up might help "lose" the necron look, even if I cut the shoulder pads off...but I still don't think it will work. Opinions?
Heres what I've done as a rough concept prototype... Don't feel to happy with it, I do like my discovery of the "50s/60s" robot scanner-eye head...hidden in the upside down of a marine head!
But I don't think any ammount of GS or Plasticard work would make them un-necron-ish. Even if the actual MoI look necron-ish. I would literally need to find something else I guess...
I think even giving it a chain-sword arm (even if well converted) and a weapon arm, will make it look like Necrons with bits thrown on.

Post by: dsteingass
Awesome! I think you should use the necron test for more aof a Cylon-ish force of stormtroopers. Keep it up!

The back. I will run guitar wire and stuff and form an actual neck...and remove the obviously marine face bit too.
I decided since waking up to continue based on some of /tg/'s suggestions.
Also, the knees not having any real kneecap throws it off too. maybe keep the side part where it looks like a mechanical joint, but steampunk it up with a seam like the top of a screw?
I'd say to make sure that the arm that holds the gun is more servitor-like so it appears to be Imperial and nothing else. Maybe have a rectangular peice come down from the join to the elbow and a round rod on the back side along with a small cable of sorts representing a power feed to the gun. The gun could be las gun without the stock on it and a powercell made from a sentinel mulit-laser pack cut down. You may also consider simply adding some crude rectangular plastic armor plates to the front of the legs. It will look similar to really tiny titan but it should do the trick.
It will lose the Necron look if you cut off the shoulderpads. If you didn't, clear of the spines on the back too.
Try fitting some guard shoulderpads on instead.
No need to bulk the legs up, just use some greenstuff to make the lower half of the lower leg as thick as the upper half. 'Skinny' is fine; it's 'skeletal' that's making 'em look like 'crons.
At some point you ought to glue some knives, pouches as grenades on em.

These images inspired me to buy 10 DKoK Rough Riders to convert with FW Renegade torso/bits...you read that right.... my wallet cried a single tear - but I think it will work.
These will probably be my only rough riders, if I do more, they wont be forge world... (240-ish dollars a squad?)
I have 30 conscripts, 26 are primed. I'll have pictures next week of their progress.
I also acquired two Leman hulls, unassembled, for a Dark Mechanicus project.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!
I got me some Death Riders!
Time to convert.
Also, yes, these come from internetz. Yes, I wonder if they are 'Legit.' No, they have ONE caste line. They came with copper pipes, counterfeit doesn't usually do that. Yes, their detail is perfect and forge world quality compared to the things I've ordered directly from FW...so I'm confident I got legitimate products. But again...buying not from FW, there is always the risk.
Personally I don't care. I'm going to have a BLAST making me some chaos rough riders.
Eitherway... I am happy.

New zombies! Been touching up old ones (adding in necks with GS) and making new ones.
I also gave my old zombie a delvin mud wash, I think it brought him more into "line" - maybe not perfect, but good enough to move on with.
Platoon Standard. WIP. Need to add green stuff ripped fabric on the arms, etc.
Wash'd up!
Something I must admit. I've been color-correcting all my photos. I accidently bought a yellow light and have not had a chance to get a white one. Its been good enough as I have not been doing extensive painting-shots with it...

The Deathrider looks badass can't wait to see the full unit completed. How do the zombie and guard kits fit together scalewise, yours look great but do you have to file them down to get a good fit?

I like what you have going here! I am particularly interested in the "heretek" stormtoopers! I am always all for major conversions!
If you chopped the skeletal part of the legs off, and just glued the upper shin to the anlke, and then removed one of the vertebra of the spine, I think it would make it more IG height, and look less like a necron.
(See the altered photo attached.)
I love the head idea!, and always more cables and wires!

Actually other way around! The heads fit fine, but theres no neck, you have to green-stuff in necks. I glue the back of the hair or skull, or sometimes the lower jaw if it is open-mouthed head...or depending on how I position it. Then just GS in the gaps.
Arms are smaller than guard arms, and shaving off the end of them allows for different but solid arm positioning. One just needs to use some greenstuff to add some fabric or something to hide the fact that its a slender arm glued to an open, empty, guard joint.
Overall it fits very nice.

I found ways to do this better, however... Necrons were making so much on ebay, I put them in with my scarabs and made a good chunk of cash to pay bills. I still have the one in the photo however and, in the future, will continue to try and finish him. Someday, I will make a proper squad of them, but I have enough projects to do now that it might be some time.

Sluggaslugga... we will need to fight sometime, it will be the be the battle of the century! Forgeworld open day. We'll get GW in on it. 2015 at soonest... lol. Apocalyptic siege of vraks.
But yes..I just finished cutting up 3 more riders. I'll see if I can't get them base-assembled tonight. Maybe some of the chaosification of the horses done by Sunday. I need to add some brands, marks, etc. A simple torso swap is good and all...but the horses need the right "flair."

Also for those who might notice - I have not washed my resin.
I decided to just assemble it then wash it, I use crazy glue on my joins, I shave them a micro-layer down, scar the surface a little bit, stick with crazy glue...it will hold even if you throw it. In fact, the model will shatter before it breaks. Once settled over night that is.
Washing the whole figure rather than 50 pieces is much, much easier.
EDIT: Also there IS a resin color difference...makes me suspicious but then I refer myself to some renegade torso's I got from the Battle Bunker in Seattle from 2008 - they're a similar yellow - but the SAME bunker also sold me those gray torsos.
Anyone know why FW varies so much?
21696
Post by: sluggaslugga
FW moved onto a new sort of resin...
anyways, why bother washing FW miniatures at all?
I just spray a very thin coat of Matt Varnish on them. That does the trick.

Pussalicious. New special weapon is done.
I run these guys as special weapons. They ALL are the same special weapon, so there is never any confusion, but I vary that depending on list/points/wishes. Almost always they are Plasma though. Roll of 1? Zip on their back/body popped! Melta? Super corrosive pussy fluids sprayed out all over! Etc. Etc. Etc.
But they are always all the same type in a game to prevent confusion.
I may go to permanently using them as plasma though.

YES.
MOTHER OF GOD DOES IT WORK. I just went out and bought 2 more bottles and dumped like $1,000 worth of sisters, orks, and IG lol.
8 hours in the stuff? Paint came RIGHT off the sister of battle model, and was mostly coming off the plastic ork. I put everything I wanted stripped into it. My god does it work.
I'll pull them out tomorrow morning and clean them of as much paint as I can. Those that don't get done go for a 2nd ride.

Also...metal it lets go of easier - if the painter did a good job. A good paint job comes off easier.
A bad paint job? I have some guard and some of the sisters that seem to have 5+ layers of paint...and on some models...not just GW paint...but cheap spray paint, nylon paint or w/e its called...when it eventually lets go and falls off, it comes off like a rubber mold rather than paint.

Well then, wish me luck! I have some plastic Berzerkers I bought off ebay and some of them, the paint disolves in water, and some are STILL soaking in Simple Green. I put them in there 3 months ago! Also they used some wierd glue that is harder than rock, and won't even chip off! I don't know what I am going to with those, but hopfully I can get the paint off.
Let this be a lesson to others, don't buy painted minis online unless the price is so good you don't ind spending extra time to clean them off!

Glue might not come off entirely, something I noticed is super glue actually leeches the pigment from ink...and will stick tight. With totally awesome, with a 12 or so hour soak, most glue will let go. I got a boy in similar shape to your zerkers...so Ill be finding out if a multi-day soak works on the glue like i heard. If it does, your in luck.

I await your results anxiously! Good luck!
P.S. I'll be getting the Jug of Awesome whether it takes off the glue or not. I'm running out of Simple Green, and this stuff is less expensive!

7654
Post by: JoeyFox
Update!
While stripping a chimera...I stopped half-way brushing it. I need feed back! Do I finish stripping it...or leave it as is, and use it for Zombie Platoon Command Chimera? I figured the paint mix (and some of it bubbled, twisted, textured, and messy) once primed, would give an interesting texture. GS some other extra rot in maybe, glue some very fine sand for grime and grunge... then paint it back up. Should look appropriately nurgly...do you agree?
Also some strip examples.
Stripped. I noted some things WOULD NOT let go of paint color. Whatever they got based with stuck to it. A friend said it was because the models got hot in cars, the pigment baked to the top layer of the plastic... maybe it is true, as everything but some black would come off... but it is thinner than you can actually paint. So re-priming over it will NOT be an issue. This is after a 36+ hour soak, I still have more models going. I figured these were good enough to move on with taking them out. A few solid black guardsmen seemed to have been primed with off the shelf spray paint............
Old Immolator pre-strip in background. Rest of that army is stripping now. Its honestly ready to come off...but I can't brush anymore today!
Beast Men - Guardsmen conversions. They were nice but not mine, so Im stripping, reposing some, giving them all lasguns/special weapons, repainting. Make them my own. These guys WOULD NOT let their black up.
I have..photos somewhere...trying to find...will update this post with them when i do.

I have a totally awesome update however.
On my metal sisters, it seems to literally dissolve the paint off the figures. :O I don't really notice any loss of detail, but they have been in there nearly a week.
I've added some chaos marines too.... expect some nurgly goodness sometime soon.
(Also I am sad, metal chaos terminator is smaller than the others :( I'mma have to up scale him...uhg...or just get rid of him.)

I got my Awesome last Saturday! My Mk I Rhino has been sitting in it since then. I will be taking it out hopefully tonight, and we'll see how it looks!
As for Metal Termies, just add a 1mm layer of styrene on the soles of the feet. If that doesn't work, cut the middle of the thigh with a hacksaw, pin the legs back together with paperclips, but leave more space then the saw cut out, and fill that space in with GS and sculpt it to look like it did before, just longer! See? Simple!

LOL, no but it's in the same shape. The one you sent is the one I am making the working doors on!
That one is gray plastic, and my two are this tan colored plastic. Not sure what the difference is.
The gray one was stripped in Simple Green, and has a lot of scratches now due to the paint not coming off. Simple Green, how I trusted you! Never again!
*ahem*....sorry to jack the thread, back to the regularly scheduled topic.

Post by: JoeyFox
Jake its okay I enjoy seeing others totally awesome work.
Chimera is sliding off paint right now too, just a little more soak needed to complete the deed, same for sisters.
The only problems I had so far were: long soaks staining metal darker (due to 150+ models worth of black ink maybe? LOL), not an issue issue but yeah... and some primers just WONT let go no matter what...but it strips them to thinner than rice paper so that will be no issue.
Within this dark tub resides $900 worth of sisters too.

God help me. I picked up Eldar....
So, my sisters are almost done. I can only brush so many clean in the holidays!
I also found from my FLGS, that all the tourny players left. PRAISE THE RUINOUS POWERS! All fun-play people left! WOOOOOO
I am super remotivated, and expect updates this week with photos of the strips, the Eldar, and possibly more rough riders.
Oh and I'm designing my own game... 1:285 using GHQ models, likely.

I still live! Maybe... Surgery is tomorrow. Yeah it took me 6 months to sort this crap (for those who have seen my whining about it earlier...)
Week after I will be off work. If I feel up to it I will try to get my other 6 riders done - or continue paining/assembling my regular chaos guardsmen
With 6th Ed. I am going to be making 20 more riders, using plastic horses from chaos fantasy... can't afford 20 more FW riders... but that is a "down the line" thing for sure...

Nice group shot! Glad to see this back (I'd forgotten what the thread was until I clicked it).
Good luck in surgery, I'm sure you'll be chopping up little toy men in no time!

What do you do with the waste Chemical from 'Awesome'? do you chuck it in a river, plant it in your worst enemy's tea, chuck it down the loo. or leave it for tomorrows strip (Not the context most of you will probably have jumped to.)?

As long as it isn't considered "caustic" it should be completely safe to dispose through the public sewer system.

It is a soapy-material that is safe for mopping floors. I dump the waste water through a strainer into the toilet. Strainer picks up any particles that might help add to clog, and flush. It is a fairly safe material, its pretty much just concentrated soap I think.

Here we go! After so long without work... Two down, 3rd to go. So far only a few minor breaks...all fixable.
IT IS SO HARD TO DO THIS. I practically had to wait to be drugged up to do this because, when I was not this relaxed? I kept fretting over how I would break them...now I'm like "eh I can fix that! Who needs the tip of a horse ear?!"

Alright... I really really really am stumped. I also couldn't think of a better place to ask this.
As I mentioned a while back I picked up some sisters of battle...and well, with the new allies rule, I also brought out something else I can use... my Tanith.
List of what I got.
I can not, for the life of me, figure out a way to organize this into an ally for my Sisters of battle and still keep the Tanith feel. I don't want to model on these guys until I know what I'm doing with them. I need to strip 3 of them as you can see.
CHQ: don't know..
--Priest stand in with Dorden? Just to keep him with the tanith...
Vet Squad: Gaunt, Mkoll, Milo, Plasma, Nade Catachan, regular tanith soldiers.
Ratlings: 5 Snipers including Larkin
Or...
CHQ: Gaunt, Dorden Medic, Milo standard bearer, Plasma, Nade launcher.
Vet: Mkoll, regular tanith, 3 snipers including Larkin...
Eitherway I'm going to have to model some extra tanith to fill the ranks...

Oh boy oh boy! Here we go...
Now I just need to figure out how to base them.... and gap some GS in.
Also while I was at it, I finished up my Vraskians too.

The Tanith should always be a scout platoon, preferably Veterans to take advantage of the BS4

Those RRs are very beautiful! I want some now...my wallet hates you!

Post by: JoeyFox
I need to figure out how to base those RRs....they came with the big HWep bases, great for dioramas but that isn't the proper IG Codex RR base...and it makes their assaults less concentrated in 6th.... problem is I have no long bases, I would have to make some.
As for Tanith. I'll be going with veterans.
-Lord Commissar as Gaunt
-Dorden as Priest [to keep him with the group]
-Scout Squad with Corbec having a shotgun (assault lasgun, so I don't have to remodel)
-Ratling Squad (5 snipers includng larkin)
-Admech for the hell of it :3
If I ever need a 'stronger' alliance with my sisters for competitive play I will simply put another platoon in or what not.

Ayanti zweil is the crazy old man priest, dorden can stay as a medic

Yes but I don't have medic option in veteran squads... I don't mean fielding Dorden as an actual priest, just taking him under that to keep him present on the table.
Also no room for Marbo, as the ratling-snipers will fill the 1 elite slot I'll have.

You should base the cavalry on 40mm round bases.

Desperate measures for my eldar. A week of soaking...it seems these wraith lords were sprayed with a generic spray paint to base them. Then sprayed again with another paint color. Looks like someone tried to strip them before too. A new brush didn't work...so I resorted to desperate measures.
Rough. Kitchen. Sponge.
It doesn't seem to be damaging them... I will be careful... but the paint is thick. If I can get it going, the brush can finish the rest I hope.

You're only worry would be bending a limb or breaking something off the wraithlord

Post by: JoeyFox
Yeah, its working out. By next week I should have paint-less wraith lords. Its taking that long to get the paint to release. After a week of soaking in a material thats yet to truely fail me.

I've begun using a dental pick to gently remove paint from nooks and crannies like on these sisters of battle seraphim. I'll post a larger progress picture soon enough along with making a list of what is currently being worked on (a lot.)

Working on a base to get an idea of "what i want"
I'm going for a boggy-swamp feel...and I do know the colors are a little muted both on the zombie-guard and the base...but I really think LOL NEON GREEN nurgle is NOT good looking for 'the rot' - perhaps for some things...but not this.
The plan: Soft-glue everyone to basic bases, do not color said bases. Then when I feel like doing hand-made bases I just yank one or two off their bases, and do it. This allows me to have a playable army and base them at my leisure. Bases are not as important as my army projects for the most part, so I don't want to bog down my already massive project by hand crafting bases before doing my actual models.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Did a test in a bottle cap with the quick water...it shrank way more than I thought it would, a little shocked... and the dye pooled in the corners (quite alright.)
Anyone got any tips on using water fx, let me know. I'll have a photo soon, my camera lens is not connecting for some reason... got to repair it.

I am humbled you have interest in my work. Yours inspires me greatly. I envy some of the things you've made.
Also update!
I got excited, and chanced the water without seeing how my prototypes would work out. It is looking good. The prototypes have since dried enough to tell me: I made the right choice.
This photo represents the base in it's near finality. Just drying. Tape = cheap retainer for resin. If this works fine, I may cheat and not "dig into" the base next time (it is a lot of work...for so little reward.)

It looks really well detailed, but the dark shades should keep the base from outshining the mini using it. Very well done.

He isn't done yet, in the sense that I have yet to glue him on. I'm debating on how I'm going to do that and what position (this is my favorite.)
Base without him.

WIP ofc, stumbled or injured officer of some unlucky loyalist guard force.
Will be based in the swamp base similar to my test base earlier.
Planning to have one upright zombie, another one or two emerging from the swamp, and some hands. Possibly a nurgling sneaking up.

I'm back in action after a long hiatus.
I'll have images up soon.
-Report on the eldar stripping: 4 months of stripping and some of the paint will NEVER COME OFF. Turns out things like the Eldar Guardians are pretty much ruined, if they are anything like the 2x Wraithlords. The yellow walmart paint fused with the plastic... the lords are salvageable though due to large surfaces...doubt it'd work for the guardians. Most of the metals are saved but they need a lot of manual cleaning to get cracks clean. Not sure if I will fix them or sell them at this point, just to much to do.
-Sisters are being cleaned again by hand. Tanith are ready for paint.
The primary project is still my renegade guard - and with the advent of 7th, I will include two major projects on my table soon.
Good cam damaged this will have to do.
Currently working on NDP here, had to re-do some of the paint so he looked a bit scraped up - don't worry! He will be getting the same "base" treatment that my nurgle guardsman had - you can't see it clearly right now, but there is depth to this base. His left foot and some of the nurglings will be sunk into the swamp mire.

WIP Leman Russ paint job (Received from ebay. If you are the seller, I'm sorry for painting over your good paint job.)
Going to do most my vehicles like this, but I just made up a lot of the paint work as I went along, so each may be uniqueish... I still need to get some depth into it maybe, but I am wary of making it to bright...

Got 12 of these guys off ebay - some of you might recognize them as Doc Thunder (if I recall right) 's old Rough Rider Birds. (see 1st image)
I'm torn on what to do with them.... chaosifying them wouldn't be to hard, someone suggested a Bearded Vulture scheme (see 2nd image). Suggestions?
