Note: I realize that a lot of people will immediately think draigo, so I will ask to leave him out unless you really really really need to say him.

No, he's the reason it has held together for so long. He can't be blamed for his followers' actions since he never wanted to be worshipped in the first place.

There is a sentence on 4chan that ideally explains the main reason why is Imperium falling apart:
"Unfortunately, the Emperor was seven kinds of fethed up by the fight and had to be attached to a life-support machine known as the Golden Throne, where he has remained for ten millennia as a super-psychic vegetable.
Cue grimdark.
During this time, humanity did everything in their power to feth up the Emperor's vision of the Imperium of Man. With the Emperor no longer in charge, the total IQ of the Imperium's leadership dropped by about 99%. The Imperium is now a bureaucratic militaristic state governed by force, religious fundamentalism and good old fashioned ignorance. At some point 'heresy' was reinvented by the Imperium as a blanket term to cover every single act a human being could possibly commit for good or for worse that any amoral Imperial Official subjectively deems as counter to the interests of the Imperium/whoever is in charge. Disagreeing with this treatment of heresy is not only heresy, but probably treason. Treason is heresy. Heresy is punishable by death."
I hope this clear up a bit

The Emperor, and I don't care how he dies. I think it would lend to the story of why so many effing marine armies are fighting amongst each other on the table top. If there's no single diety unifying the Imperium together, each chapter, and each Imperial Guard plant for that matter, would be loosely maintained alliances and rivalries competing for resources. A non unified Imperium would open the doors for other Xenos races to move into Imperial space and become more a part of the fluff of the game as well, and possibly open the doors for more races to emerge. The shear size of the Imperium is what limits new factions and races from being introduced into the game.

To sum it up: He's the reason mankind has gotten so far and why it has been successful.
But you should note that he betrayed the Chaos gods after they did him a favor, which is the reason the Imperium is in such a mess.

He made a lot of stupid and kind of jerkass choices.
For instance, his rebuking of Lorgar's spreading of the Imperial Cult. It wasn't the fact that he did that, it's the fact that he waited decades to do it (Lorgar never hid his spreading of the Imperial Cult, and had been doing it for years, Lorgar points this out to the Emperor as well) and did it in the most heavy-handed way he could, having the Ultramarines destroy a world that meant a great deal to Lorgar and his Legion, then mentally dominating the Legion and forcing them to bow before the Emperor, Malcador, and Guilliman.
His handling of Angron as well. When the Emperor landed on De'Shea and offered Angron a Legion, Angron actually rejected the Emperor's offer. He and his fellow gladiators, whom he considered brothers and sisters, had overthrown their slavers and he didn't want to abandon them when they were about to head into battle against a much larger force. Does the Emperor bring his own vast powers, both personal and military, to bear on the slavers, helping his son and making a good first impression? Hell naw dude, he teleports Angron to his ship against his will, forcing him to watch his brothers and sisters be slaughtered by their former captors. Angron never forgave him for that, and made it easy for Horus to drive him against the Emperor.
How about his handling of Magnus the Red? It wasn't just that he banned the use of the Librarians in the Legions, that part I can sorta get. But after Magnus used sorcery to warn the Emperor of Horus' betrayal, the Emperor says "Nah ah" and proceeds to sic the Space Wolves, who hate the Thousand Sons as well as books, both something Prospero has in abundance, on Prospero. Now, sources contradict on the nature of the Emperor's orders. Index Astartes says that Leman Russ convinced the Emperor that the Thousand Sons were the traitors, and the Emperor sent the Wolves there to destroy the Legion, but I've heard that the Emperor only ordered him to "arrest" Magnus the Red, with Horus changing the order to execution. The first one makes him a dick. The second one just makes him stupid, you don't put out a fire with gasoline, and Fulgrim even questions the Emperor's wisdom in sending the Wolves to deal with the Thousand Sons.
In a more general example, the Emperor could of avoided the Heresy entirely if he just told his sons anything, but no, he deliberately kept them in the dark.
But that's enough nerd-ranting and derailing of this thread on my part, if you want to know more on why I think the Emperor was partly to blame for the Heresy, you can PM me.

Sicarius should die doing something stupid. Falling down the stairs after tripping on a mislaid copy of the Codex Astartes.
After hearing of the incident, Calgar face-palms himself, without realizing that his power fist is still turned on. Sgt. Telion is then put in charge of the Ultramarines, because Sean Pertwee is too busy that week.
Abaddon, taking advantage of the confusion inherant in a change of leadership, leads an assault on Ultramar in an effort to wipe out the Space Marine-iest Space Marine chapter of them all. Unfortunately for him, he gets stopped at Cadia again, and gets mired down in another war of attrition without ever seeing the Ultima Segmentum. As a result, one of his followers (any one will do) decides he's had enough of this bullcrap and kills him, citing 13 of 13 failed Black Crusades as cause for the betrayal.

That all stand, but still - he cannot see into the future. We can all assume that if he knew what would be the consequences off all that - he would never done it in the first place.
So your statement of "The Emperor wanted heresy to happened" is wrong. Also:

See here's the thing: The Emperor did have foresight. Most people seem to be under the impression he did not, and while he likely did not have it to the same extent as a Farseer, he did have it, he used it to know that a technologically advanced people would go to Mars, and that's the reason he sealed the Void Dragon there.
I wasn't speaking literally, I don't think the Emperor literally wanted the Horus Heresy to happen.
The Emperor was human, yes, but for someone of such apparently colossal intellect to make such stupid and dickish mistakes in his attempt to run an Empire can't be glossed over. He's either a dick, a bit of an idiot, or both. Probably both, to an extent. He was a dick who didn't realise being a colossal dick and demanding mindless obedience from others without ever telling them "why" they should do what you say is not how you run an Empire. I personally believe Lion El'Jonson inherited that aspect from his father: His lack of real charisma and his inability to read others (Short of actually mindreading them).

Auri'va by a misplace EMP grenade turning his hoverchair off, causing him to fall to the floor and be trampled to a bloddy grey mush by millions of fanatical supporters. He is then swept of the pavement by a dustpan & brush, before his putrid remains are eaten by Kroot. Truly a fitting death.

Chapter's Due and Assault on Black Reach books to be precise.
I'm not sure why but Cato seems to hate Sergeant Scipio...

Wrong, the Lord of Irony would obviously be made of wood.
You are genius.

This. We're doing it. Link will be added shortly.

I'll say then <insert dark eldar character> in a terrible sado-masochistic masturbation accident

I hate the Tau special characters and since Aun'Va has been done I'll do Shadowsun and Farsight. *Note, I don't hate Farsight that much, it's just that he's not good on the tabletop.
Shadowsun: After wrecking a Land Raider, the Terminator Squad inside charges out and crushes her, and because of her Stealth Field, no one notices her. When the field finally turns off, she gets eaten by Kroot.
Farsight: After finally ridding his enclave of the Ork threat, he takes a step out of his suit only for his sword, which was loosened after blocking a particularly powerful Klaw strike, falls off and impales him.
