Just wondering how many people have considered selling their warhammer collection...
Say everything went well, you fetched a fair price etc etc.

What will you spend on instead?

Hmm, a "fair price" for a 3500+ point ork army would probably be around $1000-$1500 (cant charge as much as GW can) so i would probably spend it on a micro-vacation with my wife.

Have considered selling the GW stuff save for a few bits for converting for skirmish games to help fund other games

There are a lot of really nice sculpts by smaller studios that would be worth getting

If i sold all my stuff for 50% mrsp i could probably buy a decent car, or put a hefty downpayment on a house...

But who's kidding.. i'd go buy a different variety of plastic crack (or metal meth)...

I may have a problem there...

I'm guessing more warhammer is not an option.

I prolly would buy an ipad and read BL books and get hooked right back into it.

Or maybe save for some dope klipsch speakers.

Honestly, although I could probably fetch a fair price for most of my stuff, the Truescale Marines would never sell. Too expensive no matter how you put it. Considering the parts and time that actually went in them, I'd put them at at least $800 (roughly $500 just for the parts, and another $300 for the work that went into converting them), but no one would buy 16 models for that price.

But with that in mind, I could probably buy a car with all my 40k stuff. Not a great car, but a decent one. Granted, I already have a fairly decent car... so I'm not sure what. Probably just save it for booze.

Even my bitz cans? That's a sadistic choice. Well, if I did that, I'd use the money to fix whatever disaster caused me to quit, and toss the leftovers in a CD or something.

If I did I'd probably get out of the hobby for good and sell absolutely everything. This is hypothetical though, since the idea of selling an army, let alone my entire collection, is one I find appalling.

I'd pay my rent for the next 6 months probably. Gotta be practical for the time being.

rofl at this.

Thought about it a couple of times, obviously depends how much is in your collection so its a pretty open ended question.
I'm glad I havent as I find myself pulled back into the 40k world on a reasonably regular basis.

Here's hoping they don't screw up Necrons and then we have to wait 6 months for an FAQ...that really turned me off with the ruling issues from the Tyranid codex and no rush at all for GW to correct the rulings.

Go back to playing rugby. Its the only sport you can be a hooker and not be looked down on

I've seen a few Rugger Clubs for the 30+. Only problem is that you have to either drive 2-3 hours for a game or play the local university (which means against the 18 - 20 year old "HS American Football" kids who don't know how to properly make a rugby tack and will lead with their shoulders which usually result in more injuries on both parties).

It would be that or I would end up doing more family stuff. Right now I only game once a month. Its family first. That keeps a happy wife

If I ever got rid of the stuff, I'd probably donate most of it to the store. The resale value is generally so low I'm not sure it would be worth it. Also depends on why I was selling it. Needing the cash is one story, but if I just didn't have time/space anymore? Well, I'd rather it get passed down to someone I know who would care about it rather than just sold to someone. I mean, it's MY work that's gone in to it, however untalented it might be. It's not just some commodity item.

Already doing it and spending in on other gaming options that arn't trying to ... not be worth my time, anymore.

Playing a little more PP and looking hard at Golgo Island, Cutlass, USX minis and 10 or so games that don't cost me over 1000+ bucks to get into. Rafm Vs pulp City.... Muh ha ha ha....

Deep Ones and some zombies Vs some Heros gets a bit of attention. ( because everything goes better with zombies.)

With one army, I got into three different games... figure that one out.

Battletech is next on my list... again.

Selling my 'Nids, Grey Knights, Lizardmen, and 3 (or 4)Necromunda gangs I would hope to get more than $3K. I'd pay off some bills and give myself a nice little padding on my bank account.

Well, I have effectively quit GW games. If I were to sell all the stuff I have for 50% of MSRP, I'd have about $900. I'd invest this in other non-GW games, or musical instruments... A low-end Roland synth, or an Ibanez 7 String guitar and an amp, or some music production software.

What would I do? Well, I would apply the funds gotten to some of my other hobbies. My kids, my house, kayaking, rifle shooting, some other things.

I have approx. 60,000 points of 40k split between IG, BA, SoB and Tyranids. I have no way to estimate value of all this crap. Assume I could get 10,000 for it all (which, hopefully, would be a low value, but one I would actually consider if I got the offer), that would buy a lot of things I would really use. That heavy bag would go up in the living room, for sure. Some improvements to the back yard would be next. The remaining funds I would split between a new rifle I have been eyeballing for a while (or maybe some cartridge loading equipment, or maybe both) and maybe some investments, a bit of a hedge.

Decade...

...44-51 (modified early 50's P-style)...

...or a Hollowbody.

If I got a really good price for all my wargaming stuff, I could probably afford one of the above.

However, I like wargaming, and I've already got enough quality bass gear, so I guess I'll keep my Wargaming stuff!

I would probably end up buying more models. I've done it a few times...

1. Sold off all I had in college because... well, I was in college ... a Good decision. Needed the money, used for expenses.

2. Sold off my tyranids after cleaning the mold lines off 100 gaunts, trying to get back into the hobby... a Mistake. Should have just put them to the side and picked them up later after not being so burned out. Put the money into fantasy, which was a good thing.

3. Sold off all my random fantasy projects to buy a single, already painted army... a Good decision. I was teaching and didn't have time to paint. I was able to play a lot of games of fantasy with a unique army, and start to learn the rules of a game I'd never played (having been a 40k player before) and even participate in painted-only events.

4. Sold off my painted fantasy army to purchase a Hordes army, and to motivate myself to paint my unpainted one... a Good decision. I was able to get into Hordes, which I love, and I actually did paint my own army for warhammer, so the motivation worked.

At this point- I don't plan to sell off anything that I've painted myself (note that the only time I've done that is in college, when I was in dire straights) or even probably assembled myself . It's more valuable to me because I did it. To this end, I haven't gotten as many models second-hand recently... I seem to value them so much more when I build/paint them myself, and it's rewarding.

So, yeah... if I were to ever sell things again, it'd go right back into the hobby! Oh... I left off that I sold / traded-in some Dark Eldar I'd purchased, thinking of starting 40k, to get Dreadfleet... at this point I plan to do smaller skirmish level games and not start any more "full army" projects. So future funds will likely go to that, after finishing off my Hordes faction.

Much of it is older figures from 1st-3rd ed WHFB, so one has to assume people would want mismatched inferior sculpts from Citadel/GW's early years. Initially, I'd put the money into an automatic investment program, but I'd probably withdraw part of it for either a big terrain project for Malifaux (which is what I'm currently playing), or more Malifaux figures. Probably more figures, been looking at the Viktorias and von Schill's Freikorps after I finish Ramos and his clockwork automatons. As it is, to get all the figures I'd want for both crews would cost $107 straight retail, so there might still be money left for homemade terrain tiles.

I've sold or traded most of my GW collection over the past year. I still have several bitz boxes, some Grey Knights, and some Eldar, including the Avatar that was my first purchase going on 15 years ago now. The trades were for more WM. I've never fully quit 40k before. I've always kept at least one army, even if it was only partially assembled. This time I'm done I think. I'll probably keep the Avatar, because it's very nicely painted (by a friend a long time ago), but the rest will slowly go to Swap Shop or eBay.

I did that, I sold a rather large SoB army after I saw the dire condition of the WD dex. I haven't liked the way the company has been going for a long time so I decided to pull out while I still could.

I have since moved on to modern historicals (Ambush Alley Games) great system, great rules, awsome models from a varity of companys that actually help eachother and want a strong community of gamers.

To each there own though, the only thing I really miss from GW is the Ad-Mech and I have to scratch build that stuff anyways.

I have spent the last couple of years selling all my GW stuff. I was getting very tired of the whole GW "Scene"

The first wave- all the extra armies- went to pay bills. I was in a bad way. It was at that time i realized that I would not self destruct if I got rid of stuff. That was about 2 years ago.

These last few years I have sold off various remaining 40K armies as well as most of my specialist stuff. All I have left is my first army, SW which I have been playing since 3rd, and my first BFG fleet. those are looking more and more likely to go.

I am lucky that a FLGS has an auction every 6 months or so. They sell it and you get store credit. After 3 of these, number 4 is happening now, I wave gotten into Malifaus heavy, and many smaller HIstorical games, Force on Force and GHQ being the biggies. This time around I am going back to my first love- boardgaming. not the FFG brand, the games in the old(real) Avalon Hill variety. Lock and Load games and GMT mainly. Also doing some playing with Federation Commander.

I don't think I could ever give up on gaming. Been at it since 1976 so it is a large part of how I relax. Although Hookers and Blow might work

Say everything went well, you fetched a fair price etc etc.

What will you spend on instead?

If I sold all my warhammer stuff, I could probably get a celebrity love doll. They're only about $9000 right now, and they come in Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, or Miley Cyrus flavor. It's amazing what you find at 3am when you're bored and your brain is no longer working correctly.

I would have a hiatus of perhaps a decade, then be pulled back into miniatures wargaming by Warmachine. Er. No. That was a decade ago

I would probably waste it on weed.

Wargaming was instrumental to me gaining control of my habits I can honestly say that I would not be in a good postion if not for wargaming it provided me with a way to occupy myself and now I hang with nerds who are by far the most gentle and enjoyable class of person on the planet.

I just can't envisage ever doing it. I sold some bits to someone once but I had to think long and hard about that in case I ever needed them for some unimagined project.

I guess I'm just lucky not to be in the position where I have to.

Really??? Gentle and enjoyable??? I guess you have never been in the middle of a nerd fight between waring partys deciding for the good of all man who is hoter Gillian Anderson in early X-Files or 7 of 9 from Voyager...wow I tell you those nerds can get rather mean and testy

edit and you can never 'waste' money on weed...it's always a good choice...although drugs are illiegal and I do not condone or suggest people pruchace them.

I would buy an X-Box 360 and some games and spend the rest on booze, because when you're drunk, you're not sure if you're winning or losing and it really doesn't matter!!! .

A H&K USP .45, a box of mags, and ammo. After that, beer and rent.

Im planning to sell of my army but i am not getting out of WH, just out of GW Minis. Any army can be made with any models (its part of the hobby), but i am feed up with constant price hikes and now this embargo thing. So i am lookin forward to either re doing my empire army once Mantic releases their humans or turning undead or dwarft if i dont like them.

I like the Guitar guys dream the best!

If I sold out of gaming forever, I would get my house remodeled! I want steel bannister railings in a modern style, hard tile floors and my 2 story indoor chimney stack re masoned!

That'd be great!

This has me thinking. Might throw my collections up on eBay just to see what they would fetch.

I'd spend it on hiring a private detective trying to find out why people are interested in blowing hookers.

I have thought about selling my warhammer stuff due to the the overall attitude from GW, though I've settled to not buying anything new for now.
I guess I'd spend some of the money I would get into Dungeons and Dragon rulebooks, always wanted to play it but don't have the funds required, for now.
