Hi everyone!
Sometimes you work too much on the same subject and you need to take a break. For the last two (nearly three) years I've been working almost exclusively on converting and painting Chaos Space Marines, leaving my other armies on the shelf.
Last year I found some interesting deals for AOBR orks on ebay and decided to get a holliday army I'd leave at my parents place to play with my nephews when I get back in Picardy (yep, I'm a Picard).
The next step was to build some decent Ork terrain, so I grabbed GWs Ork barricade, some sprue, plasticard and bitz and made this:
It was easily made and fun to build, so I started to think of building something bigger when something popped into my mind:
I had already thought of rebuilding necromunda terrain with plasticard (like dsteingass is doing in his awesome thread:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/399826.page) so it would probably be a good training.
Using my ebaying skills I found some necromunda plastic elements and went to the nearest scale models shop to get as much plasticard as they could sell (that was easy, they're rather poor on plasticard).
After asking for pics and measurements on a french forum I finally had everything I needed to start building the fort last week-end.
Here are the first results so far:
I hope this thread will be useful for all those who are willing to build some classic Ork terrain or to bring Gorkamorka back from the dead.
If anyone needs more detailed info, I'd be glad to help
A la prochaine!

This is as promising as your avatar is awesome. Which is very. I, also, have been interested in the idea of constructing orky terrain for my ork army but I have never built terraint at all. So I'll happily follow this.

Thanks man! Building Ork terrain is a lot funnier than imperial buildings IMO (and easier too ).
The measurements I've been given are divided into sections, each being detailed in order to build the fort clockwise.
For those who are interested, here are the measurements used to build the gate (using metric system and no weird medieval measurement system ) :
-two side pilars 2cm x 2cm x 9cm, each having a 7cm slot centered on one side (which will be the external side) and running from the floor
-the top is 13,5cm x 2cm x 2cm with a 9cm slot centered on two oposite sides (to allow the door to slide within)
-the door is 9cm x 12cm
The Necromunda wall element can be glued, but I prefered to build a removable junction as shown on the pics above. It fite the 7cm slot perfectly.
By the way, I'd be grateful if anyone having the original fort could post pics of it, (these pics are difficult to get on google and I have to work with the info I have and the commercial pic previously posted).
BTW if someone wants to post an equivalence of the measurements in any other system, feel free to do so (I'm totally unable to do it myself)
Cheers!

Interesting project!
I've been working on Orky buildings myself, also for Gorkamorka.
I've been trying to find a quick and easy way to make them out of foam board and papiermache. So far I'm quite pleased with the results.
As for the original fort, I have one but not here in Edinburgh. When I visit my parents either later this month or near Christmas I'll see about getting some measurements for you.

Thank you guys!
@Fox Box: I really like the classic look of your ork buildings, it reminds me of the 2nd ed days
This project is progressing faster than I expected, and I think I have done a third of the whole building.
An important note at this stage of the project: Everything I've shown until now seems too plain for an ork building: that's normal I'm still in the cutting/test assembling phase of this project, so don't worry, scrap plates, junk piles, glyphs and even a squig-hound doghouse are planned .
Here are the latest pics:
1st floor section:
1st wall section:
mock-up:
I've also cut the 2nd wall and floor sections.
This sections are dscribing a 45° angle with the necromunda wall that ends the 1st section:
I hope I'll be able to make more this evening.
Cheers!

Hey there!
I've made a lot of progress this week, and the Gorkamorka fort is on a good way!
I've finished the general building work, and still have to add scrap metal, a watch tower, cover on the 1st floor, a squig doghouse etc...
Here are some pics:
Here's also a pic of the weirdboy I'll soon work on (I have to make a GS sleeve on his left arm)
What do you think?

The weirdboy is an oop weirdboy model from the early 90s. I like the imperial commissar look.

Thank you guys.
The main difficulty was to work without a proper visual support. I had measurements, general instructions and 5 pics (commercial pic included). Otherwise, it was an easy job, quickly done. Now that I have built the general shape of the fort, the funny job will start, orkifying the whole stuff.
The walkways are the next step.
Since I don't have textured plasticard for the floors, I'll glue some pieces of the plastic net the shallots are sold in:
and add a plasticard frame with flat rivets on it.
What do you think?

I think the grocery netting will work really well. Don't get all tied up about measurements and such, they are orks after all!

Post by: Flamekebab
Don't stress about the measurements. The original fort was a really awkward shape and too big in some places making it rather difficult to use on a 4' x 4' table.
"Inspired by" will probably get better results than "Plasticard version of", if you understand what I mean?

Ok, I'm back!
The core structure looks absolutely perfect and is going to be 100% WIN for the base of your project. You have a lot of options available to you right now, even more so than Necromunda I think becasue (I feel) there has to be some sort of continuity and symmetry. When you get into Outlanders stuff that changes of course, but for the majority of the Underhive there has to be some sensibility to it becasue it was once the center of Imperial society.
I had an idea that I was looking up for you and then it changed a bit and stuck me that I can do this as well.
Self-adhesive drywall tape! Will glue very easily, and look at the squares! Turn them on angle and you have faux diamondplate!
I'm going to try this on my Necromunda stuff at home because it just happens that I finished a drywall project the other day and have tape to spare.
I think it's great that you're doing this project right now, the timing is pretty awesome and the crossref between threads is going to help everyone.

I think wait to glue it until after you try the drywall tape. The plastic on those mesh bags you are using doesn't stick to hardly anything very well and you might be disappointed. I tried the drywall tape on a few things tonight and wish I had tried it years ago. It is pretty awesome and works great!

Post by: Orinoco
really awesome work. what is the thickness of the plasticard that slots into the necro terrain?
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@Skalk: I'll try to find some drywall tape today, I can't wait to try it.
@Orinoco: The best thickness is 1mm, but 1,25 is fine too.
When building the fort "cabin" I used 0,5 (or 0,75 I'm not sure) and tried succesfully to bend plasticard to a 90° angle without breaking it and without any reinforcements required, using a technique to fold paper and cardboard which is basically pressing the plasticard instead of cutting it, following a line with something pointy but not sharp (I think it's also used in scrapbooking but I don't know much about it)
This way I could build it with a single piece of plasticard. I think it's particularly appropriate to build things like the dome/shaft entrance for necromunda. I'll try to post pics for those who might be interested.

If you have good, heavy pliers (no grippy teef) you can bend it with those too, it works like a miniature metal brake press. I like the mesh idea! There has got to be a way to make that stuff stick, there just HAS to be.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@Yggs: Sorry, I promise it won't be too hard to follow
@Dsteingass: Pliers? I'll think of that! I'll make a test with PVA glue to stick the net flat on a plasticard surface.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Ya, I used my new pliers to bend the plasticard around the center pipe on my latest Necromunda tower. Not 90 degrees, but it works. It would probably work even better with a bit of heat applied.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
In fact the technique I've used only works with reasonably thin plasticard (less than 1mm). I'll try the pliers next week, my father must have the right kind in his toolboxes. Is it how you've bent the doors of your tower?
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Yes sir! Automatically Appended Next Post: I think I bought my pliers for $5 or so. remember no grippy teeth! The grippy teeth will leave an imprint in your plastic.

When I'm bending large pieces of plastic into angles I immerse it in hot water first to slightly soften the plastic. Hot tap water will work fine, I haven't found it necessary to boil water.
I've also found this trick works well for creating "damage" like dents, impacts, etc.
For tight angles, try to keep it in the same form until it completely cools to prevent "springback". Sometimes I will exaggerate the bend a bit so if it "springs back" it will still be closer to the desired shape.

A crashed spaceship?
If you can provide me pics, scans or any material I can work from, then I'd like to build it!
I have a general interest in every GorkaMorka, Necromunda and 40K cardboard buildings. Actually, the 40k buildings (imperial bastion and firebase, even the powerplant from the Storm of Vengeance campaign...) would be really interesting to work on. So if anyone can provide me visual material from which I can work, please tell me!

Thanks for the link Fox Box! the crashed spaceship should be easy to build, I'll save these pics for later
BTW if there's any other gorkamorka building that I don't know (I confess I know far less about GorkaMorka than Necromunda) please, let me know!
I've managed to grab some gorkamorka original building but I'm not sure of what it is. I think it's the watchtower from a WD but I can't google a proper pic to be sure.
I'm affraid I won't get enough time to go buying drywall tape until next week
A good point however: I've received some more plasticard sheets and got a free stock of solid cardboard.
Cheers!

There's a scan of the watch tower that came with WD kicking around in a torrent somewhere I think, should you want to build it in plasticard I mean.
In terms of card terrain for GoMo there was the fort, the crashed ship, the Mutie tents, and the watch tower. As far as I know there's nothing else (and I can say that relatively definitively, that's how big a geek I am!).

Sadly lots of the card is already glued, so will have to be carefully cut apart. I will start on this sooner than I might have done, so that I can get you some scans of the card pieces so that you can start cutting it. It'll also allow me to store it flat, which would help...

Now let's talk about orkifying the building. I already have a set of glyphs, at least 2 truks rear platforms, some barrels, ammo crates, wheels... What about an iconic Ork skull above the fort? And if yes, should I stick it just above the door or built a scaffolding to hold it somewhere?
Another question, I really want to build a small squig doghouse, but where to put it? Inside or outside?

Doing an exact cast (meaning slots, etc) I think would be doomed to fail until you are using a more advance casting technique (meaning expensive) but to cast a facade (the front or back side of a bulkhead to use as decoration) is something that would be really easy and I have been thinking about a lot lately. It could be as "advanced" as a modge-podge latex mold, or as simple a a impression pour. Either way, bulkhead facades would be extremely awesome.

Skalk, I really like the small rivets method you've posted in your thread, I'll have to use it on the walls.
Dsteingass, I've tried to build rivets like you've done with RSJake method here
But I've failed to produce more than two correct ones , so I'll try to make a GS mold to produce them in quantity.

Thanks!
To be honnest I didn't use Drywall tape since I couldn't find the right stuff at my local hardware shop. Instead, I've used tulles ribbon (I don't know the english name of tulles). Basically it's this:
I'ts mainly used for wedding decoration and I found a small piece of it at the bottom of a drawer.
It's really cheap, and, while it's not self adhesive like drywall tape, it's rigid enough to be easily glued with half dried PVA (plus if you're not married yet, your fiance would be glad to make some hobby purchases with you for once )
I have 2 free days home ( no wife, no kid, no duty) and I'm really trying to atke the best advantage of it to work on the fort so...stay tuned

I re-measured and fixed the drawing, I still seem to be missing 1mm somewhere I can't quite figure it out, so I split the 1mm on either side of the ladder, more room to fudge the numbers there I supose.
This was a good excersize to reverse engineer the thing, I can tell that the GW Studio guys at the time must have had a bunch of metric strip material when they designed the master. The orkification of the fort is in progress. I've started to work new rivets making techniques (I mean, new to me, I guess the rivets masters did it in kindergarten )
Basicalli i ct a plasticard tube in 1 to 2 mm pieces and put it around a thin plasticard rod like this:
then, a point of glue at the end of the rod, and cutting with an exacto knife leaving a small length of rod out of the tube and, ta-dah!
Orky rivets:

I would be willing to build the master bulkheads, we just need someone to make molds and cast them. My hobby budget has been blown (or rather capital invested) in my new hoard of styrene. This could be a collective community project, Who knows, maybe we could sell them? It's technically not GW's IP anymore if we build the master.

You know we're as cruel as little children, we'll ask anyway.
I can't wait to finish the fort and to start making and casting my own bulkhead.
@ Dsteingass: I have gathered all the material to make a mold, but must still find resin to pour in, and good casting resin is really hard to find here in France.
I like the idea of a community project, I think it's something we should discuss further.
Looking at the wall I felt something was wrong, and after two days, I realised what it was... The scrap metal plates are too regular! I should have filed them before glueing
I'll have to use my dremmel tool to file them on the wall...
Pics to follow as soon as I'll be satisfied.

I also went to the nearest DIY store to get some more silicon and bought some cheap resin (probably not the most adequat but it's probably fine for a first attempt -besides, it's the only one you find in stores around here-)

Functionally, the bulkhead ladders will be used to quickly climb in-game, but more ladders can't hurt.

Yes, and make some in illogical places. Orks have "good idears" that we zoggin' Humies just don't understand. Like a ladder leading to the top of wall that has no platform on top, or something like that. Adds a level of detail to a plain wall piece as well.

Be warned, these two take something like 28 bulkheads between them!
Sadly lots of the card is already glued, so will have to be carefully cut apart. I will start on this sooner than I might have done, so that I can get you some scans of the card pieces so that you can start cutting it. It'll also allow me to store it flat, which would help...
I'm going to try and work out a way to change it to being a flat pack kit for both when done in Plasticard, not sure how that'll work, but better to try than not to.

Now guys, I'd like to share with you the joy that was mine today, when I received my latest acquisition on ebay. I won an auction concerning the Digganob supplement, and since I had just been looking at the title of the item and the picture, I was just expecting to get the book...here's what I got for 0,99£ (don't look at the mess around ):
So now, it might not just be interesting to try to rebuild the digganob terrain, I will rebuild the digganob terrain! (and make scans!)
You can also notice an exemplar of the WD watchtower I mentioned earlier came along, that was an extra bonus! Hurray!
I'll try to get some work done on the fort on Monday.
Cheers!

Time for a small update;
I found some time to file the edges of the plasticard scrap plates (at last).

really, there's no big change to the previous pics of the walls , the scrap plates are just looking, well...more scrappy.
However, I promise I'll post new pics as soon as I'll have done something new on the fort.
Quite anecdotic, but I broke the flexible of my dremmel like tool while filing the plates

Post by: dsteingass
you broke a flexi-shaft? How the hell do you do that?
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
In fact the cable whithin the flexible broke at the level where it gets out of the locking device of the tool. Now the cable is about 1 inch shorter and the flexible is out of use...
I'm looking for a new flexible, but since it's a Ryobi and not a proper Dremmel brand tool, it makes it complicated (anyone knows if the flexible are compatible?).
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Yeah, they should all fit the same collet. I have a cheap Milescraft flexi-shaft. Ryobi is supposed to make quality stuff? I would ask them to replace it, good tool companies will have a good lifetime warranty.

I really like those strut bitz, personally, they look too cool to not be front and center. Maybe just hack and chip edges of scrap plasticard and have it bolted and riveted on haphazardly. Don't feel you have to follow the original graphic art 1:1, you'll drive yourself nuts...Trust me

Well, the more I progress on this project, the less I care of the original cardboard fort. Now I'm trying to make as orkish as possible
I'll try to use some of the structures as you suggested, but there's not as many left as on the pic above some have already been used for the interior walls (the bottle of wine I spent a part of the evening with told me it was a good idea ) I'll post some pics soon.
Tomorrow is a public holiday and my wife declared it would be a thematic day, the theme being "cleaning all this mess"... I hope I'll manage to get some time to make more rivets (I feel the rhino bits are missing rivets) and to finish the exterior walls ( TBH working on these walls is starting to get boring - but good work need patience...)

Thanks for your interest, man!
To avoid to get the fort damaged at home (because I don't have a proper storage capacity) I left it at my parents' place with my ork stuff and my airbrush.
It's been primed with a GW grey textured undercoat and I'm planning to airbrush it within the next months. I've added tank traps and I'm planning to add shooting positions from the trukk on each side of the main door.
Since I'm not often at my parents, there won't be much done in a while, but as soon as I'll have paint all my currents CSMs projects I'll start to build Ork Bulkhead using dsteingass' awesome measurements and the Gorkamorka watchtower realeased in an old White Dwarf.
If you wish, you can post here pics of your own fort, I'd be really glad to see how you're working on a similar project, and it could be motivating for me to

I think 1995/1996 was too early yet for Computer-designed injection molding, but I could be wrong.

I've nearly finished the rear pillars, but my plasticard cuttings are crappy and I'll have to fill some spaces.
Considering the lack of time I have to work on it I've decided to build the last pillars my own way.
When the pillar supporting the "nest" will be done, I'll work on the platforms and cover.
I'm planing to put a large searchlight on the main platform, and a rather chaotic ladder (or rather an mix of various ladders) on a pillar. Anyone has a fun idea of what I could add to the watchtower?

This!!! That is an excellent idea. Although I would suggest it be a piece unto itself so itdoesn't take up space in the fort. The should land in a big mud puddle. I can see an ork going down the slide shooting 2 sluggas in joyful glee ala yosemite sam. Orks do like rockin' and lootin' but every once in a while they need to do some muckin' about.

OK guys, time for an update!
While I've had a crappy week-end (wedding anniversaries and ill kids are not compatible!), I miraculously managed to make some significant progress on the tower, filling some empty spaces on the pillars using liquid GS and rivetting for hours, before starting to work on shooting positions.
I've also quickly built a platform using a trukk rear platform that I initially ordered when I was working on the fort.
Here's the result so far:
The next step will be to finish the shooting positions ant to add a boarding plank for a stompa and a water slide (or a diving position above an oil pool).

I think the water slide should go into a small pool of water with squigs drinking out of the water and grots playing around and a nob chilling in a lifeguard chair. Of course all are armed and perhaps "defending da pit from dem umies." oh and you need a "no umies allowed" sign. Dis pleases da orks.

My very own -=]_,=- Badge! I swear to wear it, cherish it, and to bring rivets to the unriveted terrains!
I know how you feel about the old cardboard terrain. I'd like to rebuild everyone of them (if possible)

Yep, I needed a break from my CSMs but I'll get back on them soon.
I haven't had much time for modelling or posting lately, but I keep an eye on the friends' threads and update mine as often as possible.

@Dave: achieving the impossible is just a beginning.
@Vik: answers with the appopriate salute Thank you for welcoming me. Of course I'll paint it, but this might not be before some time (I'm waiting for my birthday gift - a compressor- before starting any paint on my various terrains)
@Daemonfae: Thanks man! Your own work is impressive.
@Skalk: Thanks! I might be obliged to put my terrain building projects aside for some times, because I might have to move from my appartment soon. So I'll probably be back on my CSMs soon.

No, a rivet is a rivet, we just call it " le rivet"

le rivet...yeah...by the way... tried to translate rivet in real french... none the wiser... care to help me out on this?

Rivet is a perfectly french word (we just don't pronounce the "t"). It was made from the verb "river" (again we don't pronounce the last "r" so it sounds exactly like rivet) which means to thighten two elements against one another. Later the verb "riveter" and the adjective "riveté" appeared (same pronounciation for both).
The earliest ethymological sources about the word "Rivet" in French are from 1260.
I hope it will help you

OK folks, next time we'll talk about the progress of metallurgy during the 19th century and it's impact on the betroot production in the north of France!
@Vik: I think it's time for you to become minister of education, and to give rivetting its right place in the study programs
Now back on topic, I will try to put the tower and the waterslide on two separate bases this week-end (so that I'll be able to use the tower separately).
I've not done much for the -=]_,=- terrain contest. In fact, my daughter crushed the lid I was going to use to build a dome like this (with less details):
I was thinking to turn it to a memorial of some kind, but I can't find a good replacement for my lid... and since the real life doesn't leave me enough time to think of an alternative, I'm affraid I won't be able to participate this time...

and head of education...hmmm... career agenda... well i soon start an apprenticeship to become a nursery nurse...in a school...so you aren´t that far off the actual plan^^
and that is a cool concept mate... don´t put it too far off your schedule... there WILL be a league competition part II for sure!

Well, I can't blame my daughter, I shouldn't have left it in an accessible place. I guess it's a collateral damage of the "War for the Dinner Table"...and, Vik, as far as I know a career can take some surprising turns...we'll talk again about this in twenty years when we'll both be ministers
I'll keep my project in head for later (as many other projects which will have to wait until I know where I'll be moving to, and if I'll finally get a hobby room...)

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow riveters.
I'm happy to announce that this thread is going to enter a cryogenic stasis for a period of two or three months. The reason of it being that I've found a new job and I'm leaving the hole that is the Parisian region to get back to my homeland, Amiens, and will be quite busy packing my stuff, selling my appartment, finding a rent, and other funny administrative duties.
Of course I'll keep my toolbox accessible (to avoid turning mad with the lack of modelling), and will try to have some little things done, but nothing big before a long time.
The greatest part of all this is that I'll be close to all my gaming friends, and that I'll probably get a gaming room!(a last)
For those who ignore anything about Amiens (and something makes me guess there are many), here are some elements:
We have the biggest gothic Cathedral in the world (Nottre Dame de Paris? Pff that's a hen house)
Jules Vernes lived there for half his life, and is buried there.
In the countryside, military cemetary from WW1 are (sadly) as common as betroot fields
And, Amiens is in Picardy, so its inhabitants are:
PICARDs

Hey guys! Guess what? The move is over!
After nearly four months at my parent's place with my wife and daughter, I've finally moved into a new house. There's still a lot of things to unbox and I have some work to do in the basement to get the gaming room of my dreams, but it's on a good way.
I now have time again to work on my projects, starting with this one.
Do you remember the waterslide? Well, I've started to work on the pool in which the happy grots are ending!
Here's the beginning:
More is coming soon.

Thank you guys!
Having enough room to store all my stuff and to keep it accessible is an incredible progress. Soon, I should get a painting desk where I will install my airbrush and my magnifying lamp.
Next things I'll be working on are the grot pool, painting the ork fort and the tower, then building the crashed hulk from the Digganob supplement, and the Ork Stronghold (a generous hobbyist grabbed an unpunched one on ebay and scanned it for me ) after that (or between two ork buildings) I might turn to the imperial firebase and the imperial bastion.
Here are today's progress on the grot pool.
First the pool itself:
Then the lifeguard's chair (mailnly made out of sprue, not the most esthetic material, but perfect to buil metallic structures):
I'll try to work on the first grots and on the lifeguard this evening.
By the way, I'm not used to work with artificial water, anyone has an advice on how to make liquid surfaces?

Hey guys!
Just a small update to show you my progress on the first grot to be ready to enjoy his time in the grot pool:
Yep it's a squig-buoy!
Another lucky one is on his way.
This proves that sometimes, it's fun to be a grot in th grim darkness of a far future
Cheers!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
actually i think sprues are a totally undervalued/ overlooked material... that chair is looking very good! and the pool is coming along very great! those barrels... quite a challange for yon grots to swim in^^
the squig-buoy... will the head get placed on the neck soon or am i too dense to understand this mini? oh... just realized it is one of these inflateable rings , like a life belt... cool sculpting mister!

Hey guys!
I''m ashamed for not being more regular on the updates! There are so many things I want to do, so many things I have to do, and so many things I couldn't do before...
It starts with my (still WIP) gaming room:
Then there is the imperial sector I've had for almost three years and I had not opened because I had no room to store it, and the demonstration gaming table I got from a GW store:
I promise I'll get back to orkish terrain and Chaos marines soon...
Cheers!

Your absense is ok w/ me since I just got back myself. I didn't miss anything here! Yay!
Nice digs w/ the 'soon to be game room'. Central heat = no problem Vik, unless he wicked cranks it and I think he'll be ok, France doesn't get that cold.
Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

HA!... watched the tv weather news of europe latley? we are in the middle of a "snowdrift"
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Nice room! Lots of potential there, just needs more shelving
The 10+ inches of snow we got last week has finally melted here.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
Don't worry Vik, it's only the hot water tank, however I must admit that the two bottles of gas hidden on this pic are making this room a strictly non smoking area
@ Cormadepanda: thank you! I'm glad you like the water slide and the pool. I still have a grot roundabout in mind, but I won't add another ork terrain to my to-do list (which is long enough, believe me )
@ Skalk: I was waiting for you to come back before updating anything
The room is already great because I just have to get down the stairs to start painting and converting while for years I was forced to set up everything before painting, and to store away everything after...It's a revolution for me
@Dave: It seems that your 10 inches of snow have found a new home (and I have three more shelves waiting to be assembled)
I have had more free time lately. I've had enough time for painting nearly a hundred WHFB night goblins, to build some new Dark Angels termies, to assemble some GW buildings for my city fight table, to strip and reassemble 5 eldar vypers, 20 guardians, 1 fire prism, 1 falcon and 1 wave serpent.
I thought it was time to get back to my ork terrains.
Here's the Watchtower, painted with an airbrush and on which I've tried salt weathering for the first time. I know some more details need to be done, but I'd like to have a feedback on it.
Next thing is a lucky ebay find: A GW hardfoam ork terrain!
I think I will work on it a bit (adding a shooting platform for example).
I've also sprayed an orange paint on the whole fort as a rust base for salt weathering, and I did the same on some resin Ork barricades.
I'll try to finish it soon enough to start working on the crashed hulk and the Ork stronghold.
Any advice, especially on salt weathering (which is new to me) is more than welcome.

But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Guys it's a real mess in the northern half of the country! We're still under the 3rd level of snow alert.
I still don't know if I'll be able to go to work tomorrow too (which might be problematic since it would mean less working time this week to do all the work I have to do)
Anyway, I've been trying salt weathering on the barricades and on the fort, and then tried to airbrush it.
Some times you have to call a fail a fail
I think I'll re-prime the barricades black and start all over again.
The fort is not such a failure as the barricades, but I'm not really happy with the way it's turning and I don't know how to save it:
My main problem on the fort is the choice of colours. I really don't know what colours to use on it and I desperately need help on this point.
So please guys, tell me your opinion: how should I paint the fort?

I think it would come out fine if you keep going the way you have been. the odd ness of the oversprays and other "pale bits just need a good grime wash to bring detail back out. Automatically Appended Next Post: And then when you weather it (rust and other gunge) it will just need a touch of detailing (checks, glyphs, and posters come to mind) then more gunge to make the posters and such look "worn in" it'll be great.

well...brown and orange hues would have been but you´ll know what´s what when the salt comes off...

Thank you for your comments guys, I'll think of ideas of posters for the fort.
What do you think of painting the various rhino parts in different chapters colours?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
that is a good idea! tho probably choosing only one chapter would be as sound a cancept either way too
26139
Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe
I agree w/ Vik about the Chapter colors, it would indicate recent acquisitions. . I can't imagine Orks keeping a Looted Wagon around for very long. To me they seem like they are the 'good ol' boy' mud-stompin' monster truck rednecks of the 40K universe and abuse their vehicles every chance they get.
That's so very awesome about your new permanent work station! Keep it clean and well organized. Vik and Dave will try to tell you I'm wrong, but I know from experience that a clean / organized space is a more functional space.
Your weathering is looking really decent!
And no, I haven't forgotten about what we talked about. I just haven't done it.
