Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, because I lack the funds, have too many armies already, want to wait for new Tau, CSM, and Eldar codices, and I dislike the direction them seem to have been taken if the latest rumours and leaks are to be believed.
I won't be 'starting' - since most of the kits appear to be plastic I probably will get some to add to my existing force. Slowly over a long period of time!
Nah, I'm actually somewhat interested in the direction the fluff takes, and I'm sure they will be brokenawesomesause of typical Wardian proportions, but the models just don't do it for me.
Commissar Typhus wrote:Ok apparently I missed the memo, but can someone give me a link or something showing the new models and/or rules? Didnt see any thing on GW site.
Maybe. I want to read through the codex before I decide.
So far, though, I don't really like the new models. I prefer the minimalist approach of the current necrons to the blinged out Tomb King look they have going now.
I've got a pretty sizeable force of crons that I'm even still fleshing out now. While I wion't be mass purchasing new models, I'll certainly be using the new kits to complement my older stuff.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the new stuff. I'm actually looking forward to the fluff changes, and love the idea of some of the newer units. That said, I am doing a 2v2 apocalypse game on the 29th of this month as a final huzzah for the old codex. Nightbringer shall feed once more before being hit in the face with the ole nerfbat.
I've been playing Necrons since they were all-metal, bit i'm 90% sure i'm going to sell my force rather than expand it with the new stuff. I want to give the codex a good read first, but as i play for the look of the army (changed), the way the army plays on the field (unknown) and the fluff (Ward'd ) ...
If i do keep them i'll be buying a bunch of the new units and then doing some heavy-handed conversions.
My answer is, maybe. Im not really sure about the models and their price tag, but I might consider harder after I've seen the codex (still waiting for an necron lord who can challenge and beat Draigo )
More than likely I won't even be giving the codex a look. The new models don't interest me in slightest and I fear what may happen to the Necrons in the new codex. I really liked the killer souless robot thing they had going but the new Tomb Kings in Space just doesn't look right to me.
Nah to me the entire range of the models just had that souless killer look to them. no emotion at all. Slowly marching forward killing everything in the way.
The new fluff and new models make them distinctively less boring. Still not interested in actually starting them though. Even if I didn't have too many armies on my plate, there are too many other armies i'd start first.
I'm selling some forgeworld super heavies to fund my Necron purchase on the fifth. Based on wayland games' prices listed I plan to spend somewhere around $400 on release day, but should bring my army up into the 3000 point ranges, with what I already own and such.
Having had to recently buy a new laptop its going to be a no from me as well. Though the new fluff does interest me and I may end up with the codex one way or another.
I'll read the codex and think about it.
Played Necrons before but sold/traded them because I didn't enjoy playing with them and needed some money.
I kinda like the look of the new models, but there not my favourite and if new Chaos are coming out next summer I might just stick with Chaos until then and save up to more more (As many have already mentioned, lack of funds is also an issue....)
I scored an old school metal necron army, about 70 models, on ebay, and I've played them some, but i haven't done much modeling or painting with them... Now that the new models are on the way, I'm kind of excited to start swapping bits and making a unique looking army. Whether or not I'll play them depends on how good the codex is, I may just build the army out and let the dust start piling up again.
Nicking my bros necron army as hes giving 40k up so that with the codex and a few of the new units will make a good army. LIke the sound of the new fluff and also the models
My partners wanted to start crons for a while, but the existing range put them off
We're both erally liking some of the new models, and the expanded fluff takes them in an interesting direction. Ignoring the stale hyperbole of some i'm liking the general flavour of the new list - assuming the rumours are true Necrons will be able to perform some unique feats, and will hopefully drop the razorback spam armies off a cliff, never to return.

Sorely tempted due to the models and potential for a new army dynamic but current projects prohibit it. Perhaps in the NY after the dust has settled. Not keen on the snippets of lore change thats taken place however =/
I'm very tempted to. But I'm stuck between the orks and the necrons. I always wanted orks but the necron stuff looked pretty cool. so i will have to wait and see what the community says about the new rules for them.
Restricted by cash though, and I want to make sure my main army, DE, is largely painted first. I also an yo-yoing between wanting Tau and Necrons as my second army, and I already have some Tau. That said, if what the rumours are saying is true I'm really liking the new Necrons. Necrons were the first army that I wanted in 40k, but were put off by the lack of variety in models and weapons.
New models (except flayed ones), rumored new rules and even fluff sounds awesome to me, so yeah, I'm sold. That storm lord character sounds too cool not to use.
I have about 1500 points of necrons that I've never really used. I plan on picking up the new codex when it comes out, and, as time permits (I'm working through a bit of a modeling backlog) I'll likely add to my collection. I liked most of those leaked photos, though I really hope they don't get turned into yet another mechanized army. I've got an open mind about the new fluff: I suspect I won't be crazy about the end result, but I also think that the current Necron fluff is a bit underwhelming so I'm glad to see they're at least taking a crack at making them more interesting.
I was only turned off by 'crons at first because they were an old, crappy dex.....but sense their getting a new one....the galaxy is going to burn under my metal minions MWAHAHAHA

I already have ideas for Necron armies. I may not be building an army right away, or even this year, but the Codex is a day one buy for me.
What do you think, The Silent King, Hahkem the Risen, or Khepra the Dawn Lord.
Well, I had some before, but after reading yaks reviews, I don't think I want to play monoliths at all anymore, so I will have to get almost all new stuff.
I love the new look.
I am intrigued by the new rules and aproach.
I do not think this will be an A list army, not good enough troops, and essentially no solution to the massive melee deficiency.
But so many awesome new models! Seems like a tougher dark Eldar army with flying skimmers and less stuff, and sucky in melee. Over generally stated of course, but looks awesome!
i won't be. I have decided to stick with my Eldar/Dark eldar, and Daemons (i have way to many points in those, and look forward to new models (eldar anyhow)
Besides i allready know 3 necron players and wont take from their thunder....just enjoy getting shot down by them
I, for one, will be jumping all over the bandwagon and expanding my old and tiny necron army(It was a lord, 20 warriors and 2 destroyers for a laugh) The new models have me excited, the vehicles I'm looking forward to and if the rumors I hear are true 'crons are still going to be very teleport happy in their play style. Though I will just get the new codex at first and see what sort of army I want to build up. And come on people, any break up amongst the endless marine armies will be a welcome reprieve.
Starting a Necron army? No, since I've been playing Necrons since they were just an army list in the WD.
Adding to what I have? Oh yeah. Planning on pre-ordering the codex and 4 boxes of Immortals then, after giving the codex a read, filling out slots with the cool stuff.
Yes. I ended up deciding on starting a Necron army a few weeks back and have been painting my first couple boxes of warriors. Nothing I've seen in the rumors sections has bothered me enough yet to prevent my going through with that decision.
I'm starting with 3 doomsday arks. I don't care if they're not particularly good, they just look cool...
I'm thinking I'm going to shoot for about 80 warriors, because that only costs 960 points if rumors are to be believed
And from there I'll add more necrons to taste, especially scarabs.
I already have my 'main' and 'second' armies so no, i won't be playing them. If I only had one army then I would be very tempted as I think they look pretty cool.

I look forward to the new release, as the fluff change will validate my idea for an army theme I've had floating around. However, the vast majority of my models will be converted. So, new army + new codex + many conversions = cheaper, yet awesome? We'll find out.
I'll probably be playing against them via Vassal, but that's about it. I don't start new armies on the principles of "they don't interest me" and "I have no money".
I doubt I will be starting a Necron army. This is mainly because I've already got several armies to finish and I won't have the money for a new army anyway. The new models don't look bad though.
No. Spending money on other games. Have had the desire to get a Necron army for some time, so it is possible that I might start one eventually, but not at least for six months.

ing Windows 41E!
Still better than a Mac, that thing can't even run phalanx software.
I have 9 armies for various games as it is - and limited storage space.
In order to start Necrons, I would have to replace on of these 9 with them - and I don't like enough of the models more than I like the existing armies I have, in order to do this.
The same for Dark Eldar. Much as I like the designs and models, I don't like them more than my other armies. It was too little, too late.
If they had STARTED out like that, then things would have been different (I would perhaps not have started GK).

For real? How?
Do tell, do tell!
I'd love to but the useless git has knackered his phone and is not responding to mails right now. He says he has got it and he certainly got the GK one early. He got a version with the unit write-ups and the army list but without the artwork and the fluff or special rules. No idea how. I should see him tomorrow night and I'm supposed to be fighting him on wednesday so I'll try and see then. As I said, it might be a blag but he has form for getting them early. No idea how and I don't ask!
Starting them? No Ive got my tau to finish, and Im waiting for the new codex before that happens. So possibly after I finish my tau
But I do absolutely love the new fluff for the necrons. It really does give their race depth and purpose in the 40k universe. I'm expecting the new Tau codex to do the same

Nope he's been taken for a ride, got hold of some fandex, thought he'd repeated the GK trick and spoke too soon, as did I! Apologies, I think we'll have to wait now.
Been down to the store, got the WD which is currently in my b/f's vice-like grip, multiples of boxes have been ordered. Now just remains for him to choose which faction, whilst my IG are looking exceedingly unimpressed and put-upon at the prospect of sharing the house with filthy xeno.
He's spent this week assembling all his old necrons he hadn't gotten around to yet, so he can concentrate on assembling the new stuff next Saturday.
Why yes I certanly am. Already found a nice place to get them at half price.
I live in Aus, so its not that hard.
Already pre-ordered $200
Birthday and christmas coming up, so hopefully getting even more.
Pity I have to wait for it to post after they're released, but I can manage.
Have been looking forward to new Necrons for years, and its finally happening!
The only reason I am is because I have already spent so much time to do the fluff/color schemes and conversion for the army. I was uber excited for this, turns out that it became sort of a flop. Not happy.
Whats sort of a flop?
The models? The fluff we have seen so far?
I was surprised, but pleasantly so. I really like most of the new models.
Only flop for me is no new Necron Warriors.
No. There was little enough appeal to them back when they were knock-off T800s, and their transformation into Tomb Kings in space has only lessened my opinion of them as a concept. They're still tacked-on irrelevances, diluting the setting rather than adding to it.
I am seriously considering it. It may not be super competitive but it looks like you can make some really fun builds. Anyone interested in buying some DKoK models? Properly prepped and primed in black on scenic bases!
Ogryn wrote:Hi, Dakka. Now, will you be starting the new Necrons on November 5th?
After reading through the new book I will possibly make a new Necron army after I finish buidling my Chaos renegades and finally finish putting together my Dark Eldar. I really like the breadth of options available to the army now. Like that heavy destroyers are fast attack now. I am annoyed that there are 6+ different elite options, but still only *2* Troops options in the list. I like that Immortals are now troops instead of scarabs which actually gives better choices for troops, but would have liked to see one more troops option in the list as well.
Envisioning in my head a force of Necrons made up of some necron and some tomb kings minis all painted in that tarnish metal and turquoise paint scheme.
I've only been bothered to read the first page - I was put off by the amount of times people were saying 'No'! I for one will definitely be expanding my current army with the new Necrons - I have one or two thousand points already. At first I did find their Egyptian/Tomb Kings look annoying, but I've kinda got over that...
However, the one exception is the new flayed ones... I hate their new models (okay, maybe a bit extreme ), they look so odd... I'd prefer the old models made slightly bigger.
I must say, I won't be starting one simply due to cost and time, but I like the new fluff a lot more than the older editions. The necrons have more character to them, and while still souless automatons, there are a lot more, far more interesting, stories that can be written, as opposed to simiply creating an army of T-800 knockoffs. I like the character they have now, and that they really drew on the Egyptian heritage in designing their new necron fluff. I find the whole notion of "Tomb Kings in Space" to be laughably hilarious, since that's exactly what they are. But how could you really create two armies that revolve around an army of skeletons and not draw on the ideas of Egypt and such lol. Besides Necrons have more of a Stargate feel now, and GW's best stories are always when they shamelessly steal their ideas from other people.
Adam LongWalker wrote:It seems that the majority of answers involve the price of getting a new army.
Pity that the corporation did not think about the cost of playing this game and how many people are not going too.
It is that "get the kids to convince mom and dad to drop the cash for a new army and who cares if they keep playing it" mentality of marketing.
Of course as long as they have employees they'll have a ready market for their figures as the employees will keep buying stuff to keep their armies fresh. I've wondered if there is a rotation in the staff of a GW store: OK I bought the last army, Bob it is your turn to buy this new army and Dave you are next in the queue. Someone has to buy all the new armies and make them exciting for the customers. Or maybe I'm just being too cynical.
