Hello everyone or anyone who visits this blog! My name is Daniel and I just got into warhammering, this is the story of my first small army.
Everything about this project started when I found the citadel finecast version of Inquisitor Karamazov in my LFGS; and after being lectured on the wonders of finecast by the local redshirts I was hooked.
I later bought the codex, a pack of terminators and got a squad of space marines from a friend of mine. These will be used as Warrior Acolytes.
I plan on posting all progress in form of pictures and explanations, please give me feedback.
Automatically Appended Next Post: On to the pictures!
Please give me feedback!
my own comments on this: The camera is certainly not flattering for the paintjob, but things have turned out basically the way I want them to.
A few points of interest:
1. the power sword - I wanted it to look like a normal sword with an aura of blue power and I think that came out well (in real life more so).
2. The skulls will need some sort of white-ish highlight.
3. The halo effect on the skull decal is more of less invisible when looked at in real life - I consider it a non-issue (for now)
4. I am very pleased with his face and the armor turned out okey - it is not supposed to draw attention from the sword, hands and face, rather highlight them as i made the collar and upper breastplate more golden so as to make the face more central.
More pictures will be added soon, mainly of the acolyte squad I have.
A note on the marines as acolytes -> I am fully aware that they will not technically be space marines, just regular humans that are almost 7 feet tall, wear power armour and uses bolters. They also all count as having a chainsword.
This makes them almost as good as regular marines with just abit higher cost! The squad also contains 2 plasma guns and a flamer.
total cost of acolyte squad? 177 points!
The army list will be as follows:
1x Karamazov - 200 ------------------------------------------------
5x Grey Knight Terminators - 225+ (probably more)
| 1x brotherhood banner
| 2x halberds
| 1x Deamon hammer (just because it looks awesome)
| 1x force sword (on the justicar, because it looks awesome with the =][= logo by the hilt)
------------------------------------------------
5x Grey Knight Strike Squad - 100 (probably more)
------------------------------------------------
10x Warrior Acolytes - 177 | 7x bolters
| 2x plasma guns
| 1x flamer
10x power armor
------------------------------------------------
total
------------------------------------------------
702 points before I bling out the termies and the GK squad.
update! I have more or less completed the inquisitor and have moved on to the acolytes.
That is a carved-up ork head on the base, by the way
The marble shoulder is far from finished in this picture and have since gotten a few more layers and some imagery
far from done as well, he is going to get a parchment-like look with lots of scribbles, I think it will look cool. made with GK terminator bitz, btw.
Now on the the primed acolytes that still need attention
Not going to say much about these now, I am going to save that until they are painted.
GROUP SHOTS!
And another picture of my beloved leader, sadly missing torches (not sure what to do about those as I am afraid they will break any time I transport him... might try some sort of pinning or magnets)
Dear diary,
today I changed the title of my blog since during my research on the internets about the grey knights, I came across what seemed like an animosity towards them.
Strange, I thought at first, how can something so point expensive and close combat oriented be considered ?
Turns out that that was more or less the exact reason; that the grey knights, even though their cost, was ridiculously point-effective and survivable with crazy elite choices able to be made troops with equally powerful characters!
Apparently, if you make the right choices in your army composition, your models will refuse to die no matter what while still bringing almost silly amounts of pain down on whatever enemy is faced.
Now, my force wont be like that, I'm following the Rule of Cool when constructing this army and I pledge to use the most beautifully silly hit-and-miss attacks and powers available to me.
So expect to see jokaeros, psychotroke grenades, suicide rhinos (I want to be the first one to coin the term Stern-bombing" with his zone of banishment), Karamazovs friendly-fire orbital bombard on jump troops (imagine a teleporting dreadknight going into the thick of battle with the sole purpose to get tarpitted and bombed the crap out of by a madman on a dreadnought throne) and of course, Warrior Acolytes in power armour as the shooty support. (not that that is very silly, it's just what I have at the moment...)
see, NO CHEESE, and some day all my dicerolls will be blessed and someone will crumble under the might of the Throne of Judgement!
on to the pics.
The work so far.
Two of my "completed" models, i.e - I cant figure out what more to do on them please C&C
Spike guy and Implant guy (better names in the works, this goes for all the acolytes)
Two more acolytes, the plasma wielding fellow I feel is done, Scribbly, as the other one is named, may see some more attention later, but for now he remains completed.
A close up of the last of the done pieces, Club Guy, based on an angry marine I have seen. Do you recognize the parts that to not normally belong to a marine? (the arm, the club and the shoulder skull thing - better view of that in the gallery)
And to round this post off, another picture of the painted gang, this time with a different focus
please leave a comment, I do this blog so that people may see what I do and get ideas, to get feedback on what I paint/model and (hopefully) get some sort of dialogue going.
Let me try to start some sort of discussion by asking 3 questions:
1. This plan is for a 750 point force to begin with, when I later expand, what unit do you feel would best compliment what I have, based on both tactic and the aesthetic feel I am going for.
2. On my army list I am 48 points short of 750, what upgrades would be most suitable for filling out this void? I was feeling psycannons or incinerators, maybe going MC on the justicars, what are your thoughts? Maybe a dedicated transport would be best, although I'd be happy to keep my money and go for something that is already in the boxes I have. Let me know!
3. How would you guys feel about vindicare assassins? and how would you feel about conversions for one, or the actual unaltered model? I always wanted one that was basically a cardboard box with a sniper rifle. (metal gear solid- type of thing)
They look nice, however I would like to point out that Warrior Acolytes aren't Space Marines, they have a human statline and flak armor. I believe you can buy power armor for them though.
DarkCorsair: Thanks for the kind words, friend. ...and about the whole "they arnt real spehss mahreens"...- I do get that comment alot and I assure you; they are basically male SoB in that they do not have the complete implant package but are still 8 foot tall. I actually had one guy go all "Champion of the Fluff" on me and declare that what models I used were wrong until I asked him to procure a more suitable example of a human wearing power armour than a standard MEQ. He could not. (I try to convert them so that they are more like individuals and wont be confused with true marines, you'll see as the project progresses Basically, why I even have them in the first place was that I had a box of 10 tacs from about a year ago when my friend stopped playing Wh40k and I got some of his stuff (unopened box actually, funny that...) And I have to use them someway, dont I? It is true, a Warrior Acolyte may upgrade to use Power Armour and even bolters at a somewhat ludicrous cost, they also come equipped with chainswords by default unless swapped with a special weapon like say, a flamer or a plasma gun. They are not terrible, but they sure arnt marines.
Brother-Captain Scotti: Karamazov is more or less the sole reason this started, it is an awesome model, truly is.
Thanks man, means alot. You would not believe the amount of time and effort I put into that plasma guy, pheew, way to much in comparison to the results really, but he has become somewhat of my pride and joy.
@Dabedman - I wasn't saying that they didn't look excellent, however, that some people may give you issues as in the army list you posted you didn't buy PA or bolters for them.
DarkCorsair: You are absolutely right, I realize that I had made no indication that the acolytes all were upgraded to PA. The army list has now been fixed. Silly me...
GiraffeX: I am going to go for a quite simple mix of sand, gravel and grass. just your basic old run-of-the-mill dirt plain for the acolytes and karamazov. Terminators may get something of a slightly bigger scale, some sort of road or path perhaps.
My reasoning is this - small bases (especially in numbers) can easily look cluttered, so I avoid a bigger engagement with those. with the Inq, I looked all over the internet for pictures of dreadnought size bases and frankly, the ones that I fell for were the very basic ones that are non-intrusive. The terminators on the other hand have large bases with alot of room for experimentation.
Nightwalker: To be honest I am not very fond of the Ward-man myself, and if I had read the GK codex earlier, this project might have been about a complete different army.
Now, the grey knights as a concept and especially the inquisition, are very cool IMO. In the future this armeh is going to have alot of focus on the inquisition and the henchmen.
About that, I might need to get a cool Coteaz stand in as I dont like his model, but love his rules...
I thank all of you guys for the kind words! But dont hesitate to call out the blatant mistakes I am bound to make.
Update time!
Finished two more models and started laying the groundwork for a few more.
No rants this time, on to the pictures!
Picture was taken before I painted the skull he is holding, so he is actually complete as of the present.
Painted up the first of my terminators, starting with the justicar.
I am very happy as to how this guy turned out, and I must admit that the paint scheme GW has in the codex looks very cool. So I based mine off of that, and the tutorial on www.beastsofwar.com - mine is not an exact copy off any of them, but was fairly quick, easy and looks good. I wont go into detail to avoid a wall of text in this update, but I'll write it up if you want.
To round of the completed models of this update, here is my new aquisition, Acolyte nr. 11!
My friend Richard painted this. For those who want the story, it is below.
Spoiler:
Stay awhile and listen...
The other day I was sitting at the painting table in my FLGS , painting away at countless purity seals and everything in colors I dont own (cheap bugger that I am). Suddenly, a friend of mine appears beside me! Flabbergasted, I handed over my minis to the staff for safekeeping while he and I went out for a fabulous lunch at a nearby Burger King.
I asked him: "What business bringst thou hereabout?" A valid question, in the circumstance.
He looked at me with a perplexed face, swallowed his current mouthful and declared with a voice like an angels' choir: "Why, my old friend, 'twas thine status written in the Book of Faces, I deciphered thine words and made haste to take use of thine offer of a free lunch."
And then all was clear, it came back to me; I had made a facebook status about the fact that I would spend the day in the city. I even offered to pay for lunch because I have a job whilst many of my friends dont...
Back at the store, we sat down and spoke of many things, I painting while he observed. A man of musical talent and great creativity, Big Dick, as he was affectionately called by his friends, knew to appreciate sleight of hand and sense of aesthetics and was in good humor among the warhammering crowd even as he did not paint himself.
It was then that a indigenous Redshirt descended upon him, their vision based on movement and interest, or rather lack-there-of, and offered him a free introduction to warhammer painting, including even the possibility of keeping the model he painted.
Ever one to accept a challenge, Big Dick chose from the very limited selection of AoBR-marines and set out to show his colorful worth. He decided he would give his stout marine a space wolf paintjob as he had been quite taken with the idea of vikings IN SPACEEEEEEE!
Our story ends as he completes this work of art in fifteen minutes and hands it to me to do some highlights because as he puts it: "Screw this, I have to use that small brush? that! Lets see what you can do with him then, Picasso."
And that is how my acolyte squad ended up with it's eleventh member. !All dialogues are paraphrased and may not have occured!
On to some other stuff!
Tried some gore-effects of the Ork skull this guy is supposed to have chainsworded, let me know what you think and I might tell you how I did it. Also, It might need more gloss varnish...
Tried out some basing, this is my first army after all - I have to experiment with every thing I want to do! People have told me not to base my models after I've painted them, but screw those guys, I do what I want! (also, I dont have the glue/sand/grass and stuff to do proper basing at home, have to do it at the GW store where they let you borrow their paints and stuff.)
Also, how do you propose I paint bases like this (they are going to have tufts of grass in the end, but one step at a time)
Since I cant spray the sand, how do you think foundation paint works as a suitable base?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and that is me done with the painting section of the update, on to the conversion/creationing!
Acolyte 6 - very much redone. he was supposed to have a plasma gun in the original army list, but he is going to end up with a flamer (oh well, same amount of points atleast)
I might end up remodelling the hat because I messed up the mixing of the green stuff, but that is the gist of it. He´ll get a mainly black and white paintjob.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that section will get bigger in the future....
finally, acolyte 8, painting in progress
Update time! Am soon done with the acolyte squad, only one left to paint, then i'll be moving on to the terminators, which I am considering also doing a bit different paintjobs on. None of them detracting too much on the overall GW standard paint for GKs, but rather various things like a Half/half with silver/gold with alternating details of the other color, or something like an old matte black medieval armor, chipped around the edges from wear and tear.
I also started work on my Vindicare assassin yesterday, now I only need an exitus rifle or equivalent to complete my vision.
Another model I have been staring creepily at is the Techmarine with a conversion beamer to bolster both my henchmen (you get some servitors in the box), my vindicare (the bolster ruins thingy ability) and to provide crazy long range shooty goodness. Ill make the conversion beamer myself from some necron bitz, probably, in the future...
Since I have made some changes to my army composure, I shall make a revised list in this update. In the bottom, so it looks cool.
Before the new pictures, I just want to ask a question: What are your feelings about adding Coteaz as my second HQ and how should I build him (I guess the only things the model requires is a storm bolter and a hammer, and those will be aplenty since its a GK army)
I really do not want the standard Coteaz model, I want a cool pose and a no weird mutant bird. What do you guys propose I do, help me!
anyways, picture time!
Think he came out nice, I felt that he didnt need any fancy colorwork, correct me if I'm wrong
Complete opposite; super fancy paintjob. Dont know what I was thinking really, figured grey and pink would go together nicely and then I gave him an orangy face. Forever dubbed the Oompa-Loompa guy.
Oopma-loompa guy from the back to show off the work I did on the clothing. Another thing about this guy is that he is an experiment on the non-space marine concept, so I gave him an Imperial guard torso and pants that I managed to come across. Dont really think I'll do that again...
Dubbed "flamer guy", the only special thing about him is that he has a tankbusta bomb to act as the tank for the flamer, complete with a valve. He also got a scope because, why the feth not?
This guy will cost me 90 points! Brotherhood banner AND psycannon on a terminator is perhaps the most stupid thing since pre-sliced toast, but it looks awesome!
I had a blast with this base and It is going to look crazy awesome when painted.
Random Items for basing, I want my bases to kind of look like the outskirts of a town or village that was overrun by orks, so there is a bit of ork bitz on a few and a bit of road on others and on this one there is a IG campsite thing I'm going for.
60% of my terminator squad. The others will both have halberds.
A summary of what I managed to accomplish last night.
Sneak peak of the vindicare assassin!
Lots of pictures today because I figured that when I look at P&M blogs, It is the pictures that I like to watch, and the comments by the guy/girl who painted them. Let me know how you guys want me to do in the future:
1. change nothing (do as I feel like every time)
2. More painty, less talky (all business with lots of pics) p.s. there are a LOT more pics in my gallery if anyone is interested 3. "We want more talk and more updates! we can live with ~7 pics every few days, but please write more often!" (It'll be more of a conventional blog then)
4. All of the above! many updates, many pictures and lots of talking!
5. None of the above! come on, that ain't nice! Why do I even have this option?
I need to find something for 9 points or less! It is probably going to be a vanilla 4 point acolyte and something else. Better suggestions would be nice.
Until next time! Bedman singing out
Automatically Appended Next Post: Changed the title to something more amusing any reference to radical movements in present day may or may not have been intended and I do not support their views in any way, shape or form.
MrMerlin & baneofmorgoth: thanks guys! It's comments like that that makes it all worth it.
I'm glad you like the new title
Automatically Appended Next Post: What is that? Too many group pictures? There is no such thing as too many group shots!
Completed another terminator yesterday! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Painted him in a darker shade of metal than the other one because I felt that a guy with a frikkin huge hammer needs to be dark, brooding and awesomely chipped. So that is what he is supposed to look like.
Primed the Bannernator at the same time, I'll start him up tonight and probably whip up the two halberdnators as well.
Experimented with the gold/silver idea my friend proposed. Let me know what you think about using something similar on one of the termies, since I rather not risk ballsing one of them up with a paintjob that aint worth my time
Ok, update time! Didn't do much work during the weekend and am way to tired to write a lot this morning, but I want to mention a few things that I've thought about.
1. Valtrex, Astral Claws master of the forge from forgeworld shall be my Techmarine in the future! He shall be more kitted out with awesomeness than any techmarine before him! Orbital Relay, Servoskulls, Conversion Beamer and as much bling as he can carry.
2. I need to make more henchmen, for that purpose I may buy a Cadian Command squad box in order to make: 1 acolyte and then a few others...
3. need to buy a last box of PAGKs, then my project may be completed.
4. need to sell alot of old orks (this is more of a reminder for myself, I use this as a sort of warhammer diary ) Orks just don't do it for me anymore.
5. I may start a necron army as I've got a few models lying around from a few years back. I have: 1 lord w/ res orb on destroyer body, 24 warriors, 6 scarab bases, 2 immortals (metal), 3 flayed ones, 1 pariah and a C'tan shard (formerly The Nightbringer). These are all very, very badly painted and assembled with bad glue (and lots of it).
However, with a HQ, codex and an immortal box I will have a playable army after they are fixed.
6. There has to be a theme to every army I do, or at the least some gimmick to make it more unique. How would you like to see some necrons painted?
PICTURE TIME!
(all the mould lines will be remedied, do not worry.)
Thoughts?
People seem to like the vindicare-in-a-box. I assure you, he shall not dissappoint.
Do you guys want me to tell you the story behind the 'care-in-a-box? Otherwise I shall save that for when he is complete.
Although I did do an update yesterday, I did manage to do quite alot of work during the evening which merits another batch of pictures.
Especially since the VINDICARE IS COMPLETE!
This guy turned out exactly the way I imagined him and I would like to point out that even though the only plastic part is the necron Deathmark sniper rifle, he consists of 99% Games-Workshop parts. The box was made of a space marine tactical squad paper box, the sign as well. The box is held together with green stuff and GW superglue. the only foreign bit is the toothpick that holds the sign.
I bought a lot of stuff (by my standards) during my lunch hour walk yesterday, namely the PAGK box, the new necron codex and a box of immortals.
You heard that right, I shall start a second project so that I can have 2 armies of corresponding points value.
But before all that jazz, here is a picture of the 3 grey knights I assembled yesterday, bringing me up to 5 unpainted models and 19 unbased models. sigh I hate basing...
more pics of these in my gallery and soon after I paint them. Will probably prime them during the weekend since I work all the good priming hours of the day this week.
Now a preliminary army list for the necrons:
Destroyer Lord - 155 with orb
----------------------------------------------------------------
Immortals x7 gauss blasters - 119 ----------------------------------------------------------------
Warriors x24 - 312 ----------------------------------------------------------------
Scarabs x6 - 90 ----------------------------------------------------------------
C'tan Nightbringer shard - more than 200, outkitted to make the army reach 1000
----------------------------------------------------------------
Total: ~1000
Alternatively I'll scrap both the C'tan and/or the D.Lord and get one of the cool characters and some more warriors/scarabs.
1000 points is because now my GK army is also almost that size with the vindicare.
GK army total: 746 + 145 = 891
Now I have 109 points to spend on my Knights, HOORAY, I can justify a techmarine now. dont know if he can afford a conversion beamer though, will have to think this through.
@tarar2d2: I'm certainly going to have to try to make that happen but I have no idea where to find one... maybe in some old lego box maybe? I'll see what I can come up with.
Over and out
Automatically Appended Next Post: Mini update: I just figured out what I shall do with the stray 109 points for my Grey Knights! (not that many people care...)
The last and final henchman, making the squad a full dozen.
for 24 points he gets power armor and a flamer.
that leaves me with 85 points that I shall use for a Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with a conversion beamer and 2 servo skulls (84 points)
Time for another update!
These have been very frequent these last few days (every day) because I started to become a bit bored with painting in favour of building. This means that there is a lot of new stuff completed every day. I am probably going to build the last 2 regular grey knights before going back to painting as soon as I can prime everything during the weekend.
Looking back at my last update and the pictures I took of the vindicare box, I realized that he needed this:
and now he is ALL DONE.
NEW STUFF!
Servo skulls!
The last and final acolyte (with power armor/flamer)
And last, but not least! the Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with a conversion beamer and power armour
Since I have run out of IG and SM legs and can't spare any GK legs/torsos (what I had was basically the front bit of a tac marine torso since you get extras in the tac squad box).
Since coherent bitz were sparse, these two guys were kitbashed together with more or less everything I had lying around. The quite impressive list of bitz that went into these goes as follows:
- Grey Knight strike squad flamer, heavy weapon arms and unhelmeted head
- Grey Knight paladin head, badges, purity seals, overhead-book and various decorations
- Necron deathmark torso back part and sniper muzzle
- Necron immortal tesla carbine
- Ork boyz lower torso and legs and shoulder pad
- Orc (fantasy) black orc legs (Inquisitor only)
- Space Marine torso front part and various decorations
- Inquisitor Karamazov´s spare crotch cloth
- Green Stuff bloody everywhere
Consequently, these guys have the widest stance ever seen outside orks and sumo wrestlers.
I really do think they turned out nice, and will look awesome when painted.
My reasoning goes that the stance comes from them having carried those huge guns all the time and since they are both part of the Inquisition, getting overly extensive bionics and weird armor/ metal bitz is an everyday occurance.
let me know what you think about these guys
should I give the Inquisitor another head or a hat maybe? give me feedback on them as I whipped them up on a whim.
It has been a while since my last update but here it is again, complete with editing some of my earlier updates and a new title. Particularly editing my grey knights list as the second servo skull didn't work out. So I'm getting another hammer, which is never a bad thing
@MrMerlin: Glad you like it, I might do something more on that kind of theme in the future so hold on to your hats @DarkCorsair: Thanks man
PICTURES!
Now I have only 7 more models to paint for my GKs!
INTRODUCING NECRONS!
I am going to make a 1000 point army list for these guys soon.
I think that the Trazyn model works well as a stand-in for Nemesor Zandrekh too, with one of the old metal Pariahs as Varguard Obyron. For variety.
thoughts?
EDIT: Have been playing around with the title, I think I'm done now though
UPDATE TIME!
Who would have guessed? I am sorry to those who even remotely care about this blog, but I have been busy these couple of weeks.
And by busy, I mean of course playing Skyrim. (Argonian mage, if you can believe it)
But I have also been working frantically on my painting and ideas for the future of my armies.
Such as, how to expand to 1500 pts of Grey knights? I am thinking Paladins, like 5-7 of them with all the wound shenanigans, just to be a real male reproductive organ with all the trimmings (and to get to paint the awesome terminator models again...)
But no one comes to this blog to read, so lets get on with it.
Picture Time!
Lets start light, with an objective marker. This is Excalibur (also detachable from the stone, because I am just that awesome)
Moving on to another light one, Karamazov finally has his reading torches and I think they came out really nice since I do not actually own any yellow paint... just snakebite leather and shining gold, but it worked. The rest is just run-of-the-mill scribbles on parchment, nothing too exciting.
You may have seen this guy before if you have read this blog (or just looked at the pictures, I wont judge) but now he has gotten a dash of paint on him along with generous amounts of light from his conversion beamer and he looks quite decent in real life, something that cannot really be said about him here.
Another blast from the not-so-distant past, the flamer kitbash.
Now who is this handsome fellow? It is a try to make a sword in NMM with wetblending. In all honesty, it turned out fine but I need to use more layers with more thinned out paint in the future. But how to learn such things if you never practice, huh? This guy was immensely helpful in studying the techniques i tried, and some day I'll figure it out.
Close up on the sword
Now this little number is one that I am very pleased with. Of course, that ogre head wont hold up to very close inspection, but it is good for what it is, I feel. I might go back and even out the layers at a later date, should I have the motivation.
A close up on the ogre head, I did put a lot of effort into this, and gosh darn it if I don't show another picture!
And here is the gang, together at last! Can you spot the one who doesn't belong? Hint: he is a rather bland and colorless fellow.
LESS SERIOUS PICS!
I have cleverly hidden my funny holiday shenanigans in a spoiler somewhere in this blog-entry, sort of like a treasure hunt.
And if you weren't excited enough, I shall tell you what may be found in the "picturepresent" as it were.
Featuring - Pimp-Acolyte
- Cut-out-Charlie
- Hipster Vindicare
- Smiley Vindibox
(That box is just a bounty of happiness, so glad I came up with the idea!)
Spoiler:
For those that like my work, open this spoiler! Others can look away!
Spoiler:
Christmas present give-away!
I am thinking of doing some sort of christmas present for someone who expresses interest in my blog (defined; Awesome person).
I am not sure what I'll do yet, but it might be a cool mini that I build/ convert myself (with input from you, of course. perhaps a paintjob too, your choice), or a cool drawing of something, or maybe a warhammer themed caricature of the person in question (I am quite good at those, mind you).
Tell me what you would want and the "winner" (I'll choose "randomly" from the comment/ person I like best, this blog is not a democracy) and I can work something out.
I shall trust you guys not to be trolls. To make yourself eligible, give me a cool comment and remember that I am a cynical and biased man.
Guess what I'll like and make the comment before the 24th, and I'll choose on the 25th.
I want to make you guys happy! I want this blog to be somewhere you can come when you want to talk, or have some fun. This is my way of involving you guys in my project.
'Tis the season to be jolly, fala-lala-laaaa lalala-laaaaaaa
Have a nice day.
i just saw that you're from stockholm! Chances are, I'll spent Jan/Feb somwhere 200 km from there (near Katrineholm), most likely in a rented house with my family. Thing is, there lives another 40k freak (my best mate, he got me into wargaming!) and we will most likely visit stockholm a few times, to go to their GW!
Now i know for a fact that my lovely orks love nothing more than smashing Grey knights, so if you came the same day as us you might even get a chance losing a battle against me (im always self-confident )
So if we go to sweden this winter, i can pm you if my clan decides to visit stockholm!
I absolutely love the assasin model. Fantastically creative. Sad to say if I were to win it wouldn't be a normal mini I would want but a box assasin of some sort cause that's just too awesome.
@MrMerlin: That is just too awesome. Do that, PM me and we'll set something up. You are probably going to smash my army, but it ain't about winning for me man it's about having fun.
Also, don't forget to sign up for my Special-Christmas-Present-Challenge-Give-Away.
@runmymouth: Thanks man, I love it when people like my ideas. And normal minis is certainly not my forte, so no worries there. When I make something for someone, I make sure it's both personal and as good or better than what I'd make for myself
That is by far the best idea for a stealth based unit I have seen. The fact he's 99% GW makes it all the more hilarious (and I'd argue the boxes count too ).
Oh wait, i totally forgot to participate in the Special-Christmas-Present-Challenge-Give-Away
Do a veteran in a box, as part of Harkers squad; y'know, those dudes who infiltrate and hide and shoot the enemy in the back Or a Kommando, Ork conversions are always fun to do.
Or a bodyguard for a command squad; you could do some crazy psycho with a brutal and crazy cc weapon
I love the colour on the ogre head. it really brings the Grey Knight's eyes out . And I really like the "occupy box" sign! it made me laugh so much! I have been following your work and it is all amazing. if I was to win I'd like some sort of kommando ork hiding in something like a box or some other thing.
Hope to see what else you can come up with.
@D.Smith: Wow, thanks man! That really means alot. I do try to get a somewhat different style than most other Grey Knights with a more lighthearted and funny approach. I also try to get the feel of a ragtag, dirty-dozen-esque crew, rather than a conventional army.
Glad you like it, there is going to be more where that came from.
@DarkStarSabre: So glad you like it, that was my intention. (That, and I really didn't want to wait forever for a expensive metal model...) The only thing that is not GW is the toothpicks for the signs I payed dear money for those boxes, and I'll be darned if I'm not gonna use them!
Feel free to suggest more funny signs, they take like 10 min to make
@MrMerlin: I do have some plans in those directions, since that seems like what everyone who enters want.
@tarar2d2: Such kind words, warms me to my very soul, it does. The ogre head, yeah, I didn't really have a choice of color there, you see, I am really limited in the colors I own and red was the only suitable one (It was either red, blue or yellow/brownish, and only red/pink would have been a stark contrast to the white of the sword and the white of the tooth/horn/eye) I also only have one shade of red so there was alot of mixing black and white into that to even get any shades. But it came out good, so forget all that!
I am always happy when people like the direction I've taken with this army.
That will be that for this minor "update", I have not really been able to do any work lately, and probably wont be able to for some time. This is all because of many different things, such as constant rain only broken up by snow, a lot of things to do around the house in before christmas. I only have to spray one more guy, but the weather hates me. I'll do what I can, but the progress will be scarce during the holidays.
For those that wish for ork commandoes for christmas, it just so happens that I have scores of orky bitz just lying around. They're supposed to be sold, but until then, they'll be ripe for converting
And to end this with another reason for people to join in:
When I expand from 1000 to 1500 points, I'll get 5 paladins and something else (no tanks) what is your suggestion and how should I equip the paladins?
Merry Holidays, and a happy new year to those who follow the Gregorian calendar.
Holy crap, I want an entire army of Space Marines with top hats and canes. The Emperor's Gentlemen. The Gloved Imperial Fists. The Legion of the Dance. They'd follow the Codex Astaire, wearing mkIV Power Ascots, advancing in a well choreographed tap dance assault.

hell yeah, great idea! but do it as an ork intead!

Why not both?
Only problem though, is that top hats are a major pain to make. The way I did it was; first you make a disc out of plastic, then you try to sculpt a cylinder out of green stuff.
Maybe if you had a length of copper tube or similar, of the right width, cut it up and filled with green stuff. Then you could really get cracking. Just remember to flatten the helmet so you get a surface to glue on to.
Canes are as simple as drilling a hole in a hand, shaving a toothpick to the right width and gluing a skull on the top.
I want to figure out how to make a good looking pipe so I can have a tweed wearing librarian with a monocle and a moustache.
There certainly needs to be more class in 40k
@natoRious: Thanks man, let me know if you want more stories
In the grim darkness of the far future; there is only crumpets and afternoon tea!

haha this made me lol hard!
I was just sitting at work, thinking about terminators and my army list when it hit me. 2 boxes of termies for christmas, 5 paladins, 3 regular termies, Thawn and a Apothecary. This is so I have something to swap around in the future and can expand to 1500 points, use the leftover bitz for a Techmarine and maybe the christmas present give-away.
Both Thawn and the Apothecary will have TOP HATS and other gentlemanly bitz, as is customary for immortal badasses.
if you're quick about it, you can start a new post about the give away somewhere..... kepp in mind that its still early in the us, so the 24th will last longer there....
DISCLAIMER - The winners were MrMerlin and runmymouth - I still have yet to hear from runmymouth, I am going to give him (you) one week to PM me about this, or I shall roll again and choose a new winner.
- For Merlin, I am going to build a Gentleman Sly Marbo, Sir Marbo, with a top hat and cane and all the accessories. No pics yet, still very early in development.
- I just finished my last GKSS member, giving me a total of 1000 points painted! yaaaaaay [ /Disclaimer ]
On to my new personal project, more power armored Grey Knights, one Crusader and a Grey Knight Librarian.
PICTURES
They say a picture can say a thousand words... This picture makes a 1000 points! IT IS COMPLETE! What do you think of that, huh? Pretty fancy in my opinion! Took me hours...
These are the members of my next Strike Squad, made with the Dark Angels Veteran box and the leftover bitz from two terminator boxes (hint, hint) and the Strike Squad box. They look both original and awesome! Remember, these are all very WIP.
This guy was made from a AoBR marine i scavenged from the painting table at my local GW, casual painters who take the intro course/ mini are generous!
The shield does not give anything rule-wise, it is just cool (and I ran out of arms...)
Another intro mini someone gave me, now he is a Crusader Henchman (storm shield/ power weapon/ flak armour)
The Justicar for my new squad, he was built to the exact specifications of my friend who lives by the rule of cool. The assault cannon is a Psilencer and the power fist is just for show, it is just a big glove.
Introducing one of my favourite models in my army to date, rivaling both the Vindicare and Karamazov. How do you like him? For the moment his name will be Chief Librarian Kitbashius of the Eternal Silence and Categorization
If you like what you see, there are more pictures in my gallery.
For the Next update:
I will continue working on these and when you next see them they will be completed. Probably not all of them, but maybe a few in the next update...
I will assemble some things from the other box that was hinted on somewhere else on this update.
And there will be pics of the work in progress on the custom mini Sir Marbo.
And maybe, just maybe, there will be news of the other custom mini, should runmymouth choose to claim his prize.
See you guys later, let me know what you thought of the contents of this update and happy new years!
I just read this whole blog and I must say I loved it! The GK are full of interesting colors, That vindicare is awesome! and finally the paint schemes are suitably grimdark!
Completed the Grey Knight Librarian and he is so awesome! Now I just need to figure out how to field him. I was thinking in a squad with my upcoming 4 paladins. But I am going to have to sacrifice some Inquisitorial stuff to make that happen.
I just realized that since he has terminator armour, he's got a wrong sized base... That'll be a pain in the christmasballs to switch... *sigh*
And I want to thank all of you guys for your kind words, it really is what keeps this blog going. Of course, do not hesitate to strike up conversation, this is such a nice community and I'd love to bring it in here more; to my little corner of dakkadakka
Awsome model, your Librarian! Anh ooooh, yes, getting him on a bigger base will be hell of a pain in the A**, *ahem*.... arm. I just noticed the knife on his stormbolter is hanging below the base......
I am going to add more lists as I think them up. This post will be subject to change because this is where I'll keep track of my various army lists. I just need a place to write these down. So this miniupdate is just for me (although you guys may tell me your opinions)
There will unfortunately not be many new pictures up very regularly. This is because of an influx in work burden (at my job) together with a temporary loss of inspiration.
I vow, however, that Sir Marbo will be completed before the end of this month. This is quite a long deadline especially since he will be more of less the only model I'll work on, but things have gotten a bit complicated on a personal level...
I just wanted to give a heads up to whom it may concern (not as many as I'd hope, probably) but I don't think anyone will be particularly heartbroken over this.
I'll still do roughly weekly updates with ideas, army lists and thoughts, but there wont be quite as many pictures.
As always, if you want to speak your mind, feel free to do so and know that I'll definitely see it. Please comment and critique, if you have any ideas, suggestions or you want me to do anything special on/ with the blog, just say so.
This is sort of like a personal document on this project, but it is first and foremost intended to be a forum where I do what you guys want. I am here to entertain, help me do so better.
nice to hear from you again. Im looking forward to seeing the model, but dont rush it. I completely understand that there are other things that need to be done first sometimes......
Work is almost finished on the give-away to MrMerlin and in later on we are going to have a second give-away because I promised two winners for the Christmas-roll, but Runmymouth did not claim his prize.
Spoiler:
I could have contacted him about it but I feel that the spirit of the thing was to have dedicated visitors get rewarded, thus, if you do not visit to find out if you won, you forfeit your win.
NEW GIVE-AWAY (explained above)
Until the 1st of February 2012, ANYONE (except MrMerlin since he won before, sorry man, I hope you understand) can enter by expressing interest in the blog and the event.
Those who do this will enter into a random draw where ONE winner will be chosen. The outcome of the draw is done through random.org but ultimately I have the final say. This means that someone can sway the rolls by appeasing me, lets see what you can come up with.
The Prize A model of your choice (must be able to fit on a 40mm base, so no really big things) converted and painted by me in a style of your choice, with my personal spin on it.
I will not contact the winner and am going to be expecting to be PM:ed within one week of the draw, or yet another draw will be issued.
On to the regular project! This has been a busy week, I found motivation to start painting heavily but I am daunted by the number of models I still have to paint/ glue.
That said, I now have enough to be able to play 1000pt games, so if any of you are Swedish or in Sweden and live/ are in a vicinity of Stockholm, give me a PM and we could try to set something up!
The robed Strike Squad is nearing completion whilst my Librarian is completely done. Karamazov finally got his basing finished and more than half of Sir Marbo is fully done and painted, could be done in a few days even, fancy that!
I have been thinking of writing up some entertaining fluff for my army, but I want to see what you guys think of it before I start. An example of my story-writing can be found of the first page where I tell the tale of my friend's first mini. And you can be sure that the writing will be grammatically flawless, as always. So tell me if you would want to read some fluff, and also what kind of fluff you prefer; be it short stories or background for the Krew.
Pictures!
Karamazov finally has a complete base, now my flagship unit can be called complete!
The Librarian has a base that was NOT easy to do. I wanted him to walk away from a hellish bloodbath so I took all the Deamon bitz from the GK sprues, an Ork arm, Ork head, Ork choppa, GK termie hand and a servoskull. Then I painted Scab Red where I wanted blood, as a base, then PVA glue with red in it on top for texture and lastly, pure PVA for a shiny finish. It looks slimy and grimy and awesomely gruesome.
This is him from the front, I gave him some shrubberies to show that the carnage is behind him and he is walking towards the next fight unscathed.
He also has a name now, Greg! He is Grey Knight Librarian Greg, Keeper of the eternal Silence, Lore-keeper of "secret tomes that can be borrowed for a time, assuming that you turn them back in a good condition" and Hush-er of loud deamons.
I love hammers, does it show? Yes, it shows...
I still love the simplicity of this guy, and the Asterix-style wings do not hurt either. Converted AoBR- marine, if you didn't know or notice.
The Justicar completed, his robe came out awesome. Still debating if I should make the chest-aquila golden to centralize the attention of the model and balance up the big thing on his backpack, or if that + his eyes are enough. Let me know.
And last, but in no way least. In fact, rather the opposite, Is the completed Sir Marbo's Murderous Robotic Luggage. It has; Advanced A.I (actually, it is the consciousness of an inquisitorial gun-servitor bound into it, don't tell anyone...), Remote Control possibilities, two highly adaptable legs with sharp claws, integrated Explosive Launcher hidden within the side (among other weapons such as, sniper pistols, demo charge launchers and poisoned pointy bitz), a headlight, vast amounts of storage space within (storing such vital things as warheads, guns, top hats, fine whiskeys, 12 year old brandy, mustache cream, side-burn polish, canes, cigars and a large selection of fine formal wear)
The only thing missing now is Sir Marbo, and he just needs some Green Stuff touch-ups and a few (dozen) coats of paint. Then I have to figure out how to get him onto the base... but that shouldn't prove to hard.
Oh, and the lid opens and closes, which is awesome.
So, how do you like it?
Nice! Luggage marbro. You have fantastic blending sir!
Also congrats on 1000 points, Its too bad Im in the states.
Everything is looking good, even the shrubs on gregs base!

This story made my day Looking forward to read more from your adventures at your FLGS.

Chapter 5
What were they doing here? It seemed as though the very city itself resisted their presence, not just the citizens but also the ground and even the air felt wrong.
They had made camp a few leagues outside the city's borders, these had been the Inquisitor Lord's orders and it wasn't as though Acolyte Tiberius could have any objections even if he wanted. He had heard stories. Not officially of course, but some of the lads that had been in the retinue longer would sometimes tell anecdotes, and not the funny ones like the ones about his former employer's amazing tactical genius and the ironically entertaining ways he had used it. No, these were stories that had to be spoken in hushed voices in the hours of darkness in fear that you may get less than comfortable insight into the more unpleasant details, should anyone hear you.
His new boss was a maniac, that was for certain. But there are many kinds of maniac, he told himself reassuringly, and some of them are better to have behind you rather than in front of you and by all accounts, Inquisitor Lord Fyodor Karamazov was one of these people. Or so he told himself, atleast.
*Smack!*
Warrior Acolyte Tiberius came to his senses just in time to cover his face before he hit the ground.
"What in the eye of terror did you do that for?!" he protested as he got himself to his knees. He got up and turned around just in time for another armoured fist to connect with his helmet, this time he managed to stay upright.
"The first one was for daydreaming, the other one for cursing. Be glad, I could do you in for heresy for that `eye of terror´ remark." a metallic voice said above him.
Tiberius' eyes instinctively homed in on the source of the voice but all he could see was a massive silver tower right next to him, obscuring the sunlight. When his eyes had adjusted, he could just about make out a vaguely helmet-shaped outcrop on the hulking figure.
Oh, one of them, he thought as he quickly backed away, head bowed in frightened reverence.
"Round up your comrades, we are moving out." said the Grey Knight. He was wearing ornate terminator armour, almost white in the heavy sunlight.
"Y..yes, yes of course my lord."
Tiberius scrambled away on unsteady feet.
Inquisitor Lord Fyodor Karamazov opened his eyes as a servitor entered the tent. He always slept sitting, in his armour and his ancient power sword in his lap. History had proven this necessary. Anyway, a new day, and lots of things that had to be done. With extreme prejudice. Oh, and fire, of course.
And don't forget the sharp objects.
This had all the workings of a wonderful day in the service of the Imperium.
"FIRE UP THE THRONE! WE HAVE WORK TO DO, THE ENEMIES OF THE EMPEROR SHALL RUE THIS DAY!"
To be continued...

Let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions as to the plot, feel free to contribute.
A real update with more story and of course pictures will be up later this week.
I want to thank all of you who left comments. It was such a delight when I realized that I haven't even posted on page 3 yet.
There were a couple of comments about my short little story on page 1, so I am definitely going to write more. That is something that I can do at work when things are particularly slow. There will also be a few funny pictures that I draw sometimes, coming up here in the future.
Thank you all again, without you guys this blog would just be me awkwardly talking to myself.
Til next time.

Excellent work and conversions here dude! I love the fluff and congrats on your 1000pt force! Can't wait to see more!
Figured I would write some more fluff as I haven't been able to paint much on account of work and not being able to keep my paint station established at home. SO CLOSE at being done with Sir Marbo. A bit of a change with the model though, the top hat didn't work out (his IG head is so freaking tiny!) so I gave him a bowler hat instead. Looks great and makes me more comfortable for reasons as of yet undisclosed on this blog (you'll see when I unveil him).
I started working on making Justicar Thawn. Now I don't care about him being a waste of points as such, he is frakkin immortal! Reasons for me to have Thawn: - I get to justify an even more awesome terminator model with all the goodies from all the boxes I have. - A character is always more engaging to paint. - I get to make a cool death marker (lots of fun to be had there, I'm thinking various death puns and references on interchangeable gravestones/ signs) - Actually cool fluff, though not a lot; it is an awesome base on which to build your own hero. ( As it should be, IMO) - I get to have an even more elite army, the like of which have never been seen! This will certainly challenge the claim that the GK codex is so overpowered that you could just choose everything you want and still have a competitive army. WELL, I don't think many people have seen an army consisting of Karamazov, a vindicare, Thawn, a Librarian (or an Ordo Xenos Inq. with conversion beamer), some TEQ, some MEQ and guardsmen in power armor. All footslogging (because I abhor vehicles, an army that is not like LOTR is not an army at all!). - Have someone to inconsequentially orbital bombard to avoid scatter.
Reasons to NOT have Thawn: - Not a point efficient unit, bad for score maximizing builds... LIKE I CARE!
FLUFF
++++ Chapter 6
"Blinding" was not in any way sufficient to describe the pain, it was like every bone in his body was trying to turn into molten lava inside of him. Apparently, he observed skeptically, with some success. The wound on his shoulder had only gotten worse these last few days since the battle. He would agree, though, that it had been a good one. Casualties had been had but fortunately most of them had been on the other side. A very good battle in fact, Tiberius had a medal to prove it and now he was lying on a stretcher among the corpses of his more mortally challenged colleagues. That was not where they used to keep the wounded in his old employment, but much was different with these inquisitorial people and he was new, so he was not going to complain.
"So where'd they get you? My shoulder hurts like an ork with a sledgehammer." He turned his head to the stretcher on his left, hoping to get a bit of clarity in what was a slightly fuzzy memory only to be met by the blank stare of someone who is, well, less than alive. He turned his head to his right, a ball of worry forming in his stomach. "What. In. The. Emperors. Name." This was bad.
The sun rose over the battlefield and the victims of the battle. The Throne of Judgement trudged onward on heavy metal feet, spewing thick smoke from its exhausts and torches. White marble glinted in the sunlight, outlining the dark gold armour of an old man with a white beard and a large sword resting in his lap. Beside him, in utter silence, a scribe was diligently working away on a crackling scroll. On the other side of the old man was a large multi-melta directed by a mindless drone, more machine than human, devoid of free will, its' humanity long since gone in the service of the inquisition. Slowly, but with an air of complete finality; like the advance of a glacier, the Throne closed in on the city, trampling the corpses of heretic and loyal alike, its driver indifferent to those who could no longer serve.
The men on the barricades could only watch in stunned horror as this visage of unnerving calm got ever closer for every second. Behind it now, silver shapes began fanning out on either side. They hadn't asked for this, the rebellion was supposed to bring peace to the planet, and the inquisition was not even real. The Leader had assured them that it was simply a horror story from the days of the Heresy, when the universe was in chaos, literally. This was a doomed cause ever since the envoy to the outworlders had come back in more pieces than when they left.
The battle of the plains had been a disaster, too. The silver reapers were way to well armed and nothing seemed to penetrate their shining armor. There had been others as well, bigger than normal men and clad in thick metal, but these were subject to fear and cowardice just like the rebels themselves and when the Leader had the Gate opened, they had died just like the humans they apparently were. But that is were it all had went wrong, when the gate opened. That was three days ago. ++++
NOTE: The thing I want to achieve with the fluff is that of a continuous story, which is why it started on what I called chapter 5. This also gives me the freedom to jump in time when I want, just to make things sound cool and make what I write a part of something bigger that you guys have to imagine for yourselves. I only want to flesh out the characters in my army, not write a "historic" document. If there is any suggestions about the fluff, please comment.
(And I lied actually, the real update never came... but it will in the beginning of the new week.)
Marbo was given a bowler hat by reasons later in the post, I think it was a more personal touch.
Here are the first EVER pictures of the COMPLETE couple.
Some of the Luggage itself, me being a huge Pratchett fan, there is no other name I could give it.
MY NAME IS DABEDMAN, AND I APPROVE THIS POST!
And lastly, a few pics of my Thawn WIP.
Spoiler:
GIVE-AWAY The Give-Away is still in effect until February first. It works this way: Start following the blog and leave a comment about your interest in having a mini made and painted by me, for no money at all! The only cost is that you start following this thread and contributing from time to time, as well as spreading the word.
Lots of pics, scarce on text. Well, we gotta have some of those, right? 'Til Later DaBedman
(Oh, and MrMerlin, throw me a PM with your info so as I can post this bad boy!)
HONAW wrote:That fluff is awesome! I was really getting into while reading it and was disapointed when there was no more! Great stuff!
Oh, there is going to be more, maybe in bigger chunks but that wont be often if it happens. Glad to see that I can hook someone with this kind of story format, the best thing is when people get both interested and yet disappointed that there isn't more of it. Hehe
He doesn't look too sneaky like other Marbo conversions I have seen, but I still like him.
Actually, come to think of it a moustache is the perfect disguise, no one expects the moustache guy!
Any objections? No? Ok, then let's draw! I always use random.org for this, but you are going to have to trust me since I'm not going to bother with a video or screenshot. And the winner is!
Spoiler:
Number #1, A1rebirth
CONGRATULATIONS! Who would have known it would be you? Please contact me within the week with a PM to claim your prize -insert winners name here- and some thoughts on a model you would like me to build for you, and I'll start planning.
Oh, and another thing, I'm not going to be able to do anything more warhammer related until atleast next week. This means that I'll have to delay sending the package to MrMerlin for a week from today. Sorry about that, but Wh40k stuff is actually quite far down on my priority list (it's a hobby after all) and there are some things that just has to take precedence. But the thing about this hobby is the wait, isn't it? And it's not like I'm keeping anyone in the dark, am I? Just reassuring myself... I feel really guilty when I have to push deadlines, but it is out of my control, I am afraid. The least I can do is then to at the least keep you guys updated.
FLUFF time!
++++ Being on missions alone was the best thing Anval knew, no other people to worry about, no one to keep alive but himself. Which was important, since he wasn't very good even at that. But it helped when that was the only problem because he was not sure how dying was for others, most of them seemed to like being dead so much that they apparently chose to stay that way. That confused him, whenever he died he would just not be able to get any rest at all for all the guilt that gnawed in the back of his mind. He felt like being dead made him neglect his responsibilities.
"The Emperor sacrificed himself for our faults, but he never let that stop him from His duty, now did He, Anval?" His mother would often say when he was a youngling. "Are you going to let something minor stop YOU from YOUR duty, Anval, my son?" The harsh training and indoctrination of the Grey Knights had all but deleted all of his memories from before Titan, but for some reason this had persisted. "No, mother." "Good, now pick the broom back up and stop whining, it's just a bruise." It seemed like an eternity had came and went since then, things had been easy back then. Life was simple, now it could be ever so complicated.
Very complicted, even, at times. Such as now. There were questions that needed to be answered all the time, and many of them didn't even make sense. Another thing about questions, Anval reflected, is that more often than not, they have no answers. And no one tells you! But right now they had tentacles. Emperor-damned Chaos! That is another thing he couldn't remember from his childhood. Had there been quite as many tentacles and pointy teeth back then? Probably not.
Although, he was certain that there had also been fewer purity seals, and he did love those purity seals. I'm glad I was there when they invented them, he thought as he nonchalantly dodged a barbed spear thrown at him, trailing poison from the tip, and ducked behind a chest-high wall just as a hail of sizzling bolter slugs passed through the air that his head had occupied not a second earlier. Aw man, cursed bolts? These traitors did not beat around the proverbial bush, that much was for sure. He chucked a handful of assorted grenades over the wall and waited for the tortured screams before he broke cover and charged across the plaza toward his demonic prey, a writhing mass of agonized flesh and metal. So, a few bloodletters and a few traitor marines, nothing special.
There was no chance to parry when the halberd descended like the wrath of gods. A brief shriek and the deamon disappeared into a cloud of dust. Anval swung again, this time a deamonblade provided a flicker of resistance before another explosion of dust and then the deafening sound of silence as the onlooking traitors held their breath and hesitated for just a fraction of a moment before their chaos-induced insanity got the better of them. Chainswords and knives drawn, they threw themselves at the lone terminator, intelligence not a factor in a mind ravaged by madness. They clashed with great ferocity but the by-now-not-so-silver-anymore-but-actually-really-Grey Knight stood his ground, force halberd a blur at this point. Any passers-by would have serious problems telling who was on which side in the melee that ensued, crazed battle-cries and laughter saturated the plaza as the five superhuman brawlers fought tooth-and-nail for domination, weapons and wounds no longer a concern for any involved, just the thrill of battle and steely conviction were of any matter. Or, at least, so would someone with a way of words describe it had they witnessed the fight, preferably from a very long way away.
In reality though, it was fairly one-sided. Actually, it wasn't fair in any way, shape or form. It was a slaughter, and the traitors got the bad end of the bargain.
"I find your lack of face disturbing" Was the last thing Word Bearer traitor marine Farros Gaile heard in this life before the storm bolter three inches away from his helmet blazed and the darkness conquered. ++++
Want more of the whacky adventures of Justicar Anval Thawn? Let me know!
Just trying to bump this up because of the give-away, since I gave the winner a week to contact me and it would be more fair if he actually could SEE that he won before his week passed.

Hello again, everyone. Bit of a fluff update again, no pictures this time either unfortunately, but nothing very exciting has been happening with the army lately. I've been planning out my 4 paladins and started to workshop the new give-away model.
This time it is going to be a special weirdboy, I a Hannibal Lecter-esque fashion. Lots of chains, possibly restrained, maybe a strait jacket. We will see how it turns out when I get to building.
@Hmelrose and captainsolstice: Don't fret, there may still be more chances in the future. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
@Flying Pooo and Knightley: Glad to hear you like it. I feel like he could be quite a cool character based on what is in the codex; very mysterious and with lots of room for anything, yet the things that are said about him: Impossibly old, unable to die, birthmark aquila on the forehead and some crazy psychic potential, these are all mentioned in the codex and then forgotten, and all of this was present before he was reqruited and treated to the Emperor's genes.
And still he is just a footnote in the codex, seriously? And just an upgrade character? With 1 wound?
I want to expand on him as I see fit and give him the attention he deserves. Because true immortality is something fairly unique in wh40k and a cool concept to write about.
I guess I'll have some pictures ready by the end of this week atleast, and those will be of my progress on the Thawn model, a mini or two that I am going to use to teach a friend how to paint, and possibly something on the Hannibal Lectork.
FLUFF

"And so the mighty Lord Draigo, using nothing but his mind and a plastic spork, banished the fell bloodthirster whilst he himself actually was in the warp!" This met with a cheer. "And then, like, he stood above the corpse of the deamon and reforged it's axe into a superpowerful sword, fighting fire with fire; deamons with a deamonblade!" The speaker flailed about with his laden fork to illustrate.
"And they say that even stuck in the warp, the ruinous powers don't dare touch him and one day he'll return to rule and close the Eye of Terror with mind bullets!"
By now the speaker had climbed atop a table and was striking heroic poses with his fork as his sword and a blanket as a cape. The tavern cheered as one man. Various alcoholic beverages sloshed around in the air as the patrons started dancing and and singing, swinging their large mugs to keep pace. Only one man in the entire bar seemed unaffected by the jollymaking, but no one gave him as much as a glance.
That is, until he left his seat and stood upright.
Only then did he get noticed, as many had in their drunken haze not even realized that the massive hooded shape in the dark corner was something other than a pile of robes. And who could blame them? It is not as though humans often are twelve feet tall.
He coughed politely. Silence ruled as everyone in the room wondered where the thunder had came from.
"Where did you hear that story?" The hooded figure demanded. On the table, the caped hero with the fork sword became suddenly self-aware and instantaneous sobriety hit him like a ton of bricks.
"Aaaaah. Well, ugh, you see, I-" He began, feeling extremely lonesome.
"That is fine, come over here. You look like you've seen an Ork in a suit, I'll help you get home." The massive man extended a metaphorical hand.
"T-t-thanks."
Thawn hated to have to silence knowledge, but what can you do. Orders were orders; anyone who knew of Chaos was to be alive no more.
And no doubt this planet was infested, just the other day there'd been actual deamons and traitor marines, and the boss was having a war on the capital hive even now. What had happened was, apparently, that some sort of preacher of Chaos had come here. Or a psychic preacher had been tainted, Thawn didn't really care which. This person had then managed to sway a lot of the population without them even knowing, got them in conflict with the PDF who sent a distress message and the Inquisitor had been closest.
Inquisitor Karamazov had then called on the Knights that also were close. This had been Thawn and his friends, currently assisting Greg the Librarian with gathering books for the chapter library and keeping the general noise level in the sector acceptable. Greg had been all over the mission, he and Karamazov went way back. They had been in inquisitor college together, or something. Anval had forgotten.
It got hard to remember details about others when you got so old that you forgot how old you were. And he was old, Justicar Anval Thawn was just as much a part of the Grey Knights' foundations as the floors and pillars on holy Titan, probably more. Floors actually had to be replaced every few thousand years...
So had it come to pass that he ended up in old Fyodor "No Innocents" Crazypantsoff's employ. Not long after that they made landfall only to find that not a single man of the PDF had made it out alive. Actually, not much of a surprise really.
And then they had gotten into a war with an entire world. It wasn't fair, Anval caught himself thinking. Those poor sods wont stand a chance.
Now though, his "special skills" had apparently been reason enough to get him sent on a "top secret misson" where "Superglory" and "Megahonor" was sure to follow, he'd been told. It was undoubtedly a suicide mission, so words like that often got thrown around when you fished around for volunteers.
Well, Thawn, who had way more experience with suicide missions than most, volunteered on the basis that it was nice to get out into the countryside for a while and clear his head. The mission officer had laughed at him.
"I'll have your salary ready for you when you get back, shall I? Haha, you're a funny one, you. Mind if I have your dessert if you happen to not make it?" And so on. You could have cut the sarcasm with a knife and used as a building material.
And now he prowled through the busy hive city hunting for a renegade Chaos priest. He was wearing terminator armour and carried a nemesis force halberd almost twenty feet long, but still managed to remain unseen by the general population. All he needed was to cover up any shiny bits of himself and his weapon with baggy cloth in brownish cloth and done; invisible. The fact that he was roughly the size of a small building mattered not, people simply choose not to see things that shouldn't be there.
His target would no doubt be protected by the most horrible things imaginable, deamons and traitor marines, the priest could open portals into the warp for lesser beasts to travel through.
But Thawn had a very particular set of skills; skills that he had acquired over a very long career. Skills that made him a nightmare for people like them. He would look for his mark, he would find him, and he would kill him.
This is going to another fluff update, because that is what I have had time to do lately...
But do not fret, I have recently gotten a revival of inspiration in the area of painting, so on Monday the 20th, there will definitely be A LOT of pictures with updates on my various new projects.
I also went through the whole entire blog to try to get an overview and I realized that I have not updated with progress pictures in about a month! Sweet Mother of Kittens!
There is not much that shames me greater than finding that I have not been interesting almost since the new year.
Therefore I am going to announce a major update due this Monday. This will include but will not be limited to: personal WIPs, Hannibal Lectork wip, thoughts and ideas (give-away prize), upcoming army additions and questions. There will of course also be TONS of pictures, so before monday, tell me if there is any part of my army you would like to see clearer or just more pictures of and I will do that.
I want this blog to be fun to visit, and for this I also turn to YOU, the reader, and I ask:
What do YOU want to see and read? No answer is too stupid, no question unnecessary.
Tell me if I suck at painting, tell me how you would do the minis, tell me how you want the fluff to turn out, tell me what you want to see more of. What you want to see less of. In my mind this project has still only just started and I want it to be as good as it can be in the future.
FLUFF
Some more story today, picking up where we left off with Thawn stalking through the streets of an unnamed Hive City in pursuit of a mysterious man. Powers from the warp getting stronger and stronger around him, all the while the general population seems to be indifferent to both him and the rising chaos around them.
This is a time when everything and anything might happen.
To one individual in particular, this might be the most dangerous and thrilling adventure ever. Or at least since last Tuesday.
++++
If you are eye-catching enough, then no-one will remember you. Sure they will notice you, but they won't see you. Humans are by nature paranoid, a trait developed over millions of years to make sure only those smart enough not to feed the big, hungry kitty cat with the huge teeth or eat the colorful beetles and frogs, would carry on their blood line.
Predators have always used tactics and subterfuge to catch their prey and so the prey gets very good at spotting traps and moving shadows.
Justicar Anval Thawn knew this because he had often been the predator. But eventually, he realized, the prey starts to expect traps and ambushes; becoming blind to that which is painfully obvious.
So Anval Thawn made no effort to be invisible, the trick was to be so visible that no one looked for you in the first place.
Still, a robe was useful, the " =][= " made people nervous.
So he walked through the streets unseen, tracking this "leader" as they all called him. The air tasted a bit like rusted metal, as unnatural powers often do, so he decided to follow his nose. No doubt his target would be found at the epicenter.
Directions from a few tortured citizens and a renegade PDF-soldier, in fact the last surviving member, gave him the last of what he needed, the trail was hot now.
And the PDF had finally been killed to a man, as is custom.
This slow, meticulous and sometimes violent journey would go on uneventfully for a few days more before anything more worth noting happened.
So we skip forward.
A swift cut split the oncoming chair, causing the wood to catch fire as it flew past and hit the wall behind. Thawn had barely even entered the room when this happened, so someone had been expecting him. A quick look around the circular office revealed a massive metallic desk with a, most likely, bolterproof window behind it. There was also an absence of chair, a few diplomas on the wall, flower pots, small tables, a sofa, some lamps, Valhallan hand-woven carpet, small man with a plasma pistol and ethereal energy crackling around him, a rather nice painting, striped wallpaper, powered off servo skull and hold. on. just. a. moment...
Plasma scorched the wall as he just managed to throw himself to the floor.
He raised his head only to have his whole world enveloped in blue energy before everything went white. Because that is what happens when you get hit square in the face with pure light, even your corpse gets blinded.
Oh c'mon, what kind of end is that? Hurry up with the next chapter!
I really like your fluff. Your writing style is great, I had to laugh out loud several times when I read the last three chapters! More!
You know Merlin, cliffhangers are what keeps people coming back. Just look at Lost.
And anyone who wants to make suggestions as to the story, PM me with your ideas if you don't want it to be "public".
That would be awesome, because I just make it up as I go along with a plan behind it it would be several times better, I expect.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I have decided to make a separate thread in the Dakka Fiction section for the fluff that I write.
It will still originate in here, but I feel as some people have come with very positive feedback, that I should gather all of my stories into one neat post.
Now, I know I promised a major update today (monday) and the thing is... That's what is going to happen! I have twenty pictures ready for you guys and some good ideas for some transitional fluff.
I also have a few projects within the project to talk about such as:
- Turning a Leman Russ Battle Tank into a Rhino or Razorback (or super-tiny Land Raider).
- Ideas for the give-away model, it has been slow on this one but I think I am gaining speed on it. Hannibal Lectork shall rise!
This update will be in these segments:
- First pictures of the last members of my esteemed Grey Knight Strike Squad. And some thoughts and group shots.
- Leman Russ project and thoughts.
- Thoughts about some Heavy Support (dreadnought or dreadknight?)
- Hannibal Lectork
- Fluff
- Thawn
Thawn is the big thing for the moment, but it has soon run its course. I think I am closing in on the end of the Thawn spotlight fluff. Which probably means another half-a-year, we'll see.
PICTURE TIME!
Strike Squad I wanted this guy to have a very shiny sward while the rest of him was quite dark, to get a cool contrast. I think I pulled it off. Also, the point behind some of my force weapons actually being regular swords is that they would actually not always be powered on, so I take that as an excuse to do whatever I feel like with them. Mine is an army of individuals and I refuse to paint something in a way i don't want it painted.
The thought behind this guy was that I decided on him having a shield as I ran out of normal arms when I was going to build him. The special thing about him became the lantern on his waist, where the OSL looks very cool from afar if not from this up close.
These are the regular Grey Knights with swords that I have. This will be the squad I enter into a competition at my local GW for the anniversary. It is a 2 versus 2 tournament, 100 points per player and only troops. Hopefully my friend can come too or I will have to join up with some random kid, which is okay, though not quite as fun.
Leman Russ Project
Now this is where things get weird. I have had this badly converted Looted Leman Russ for the longest time and finally it shall actually have a real purpose.
Now, Grey Knights can not use Russes, unfortunately, but they have Rhinoes and Razorbacks. So since I already have this thing, I shall try to Inquisify it as best I can.
Shouldn't be a problem really, if you look at the concept art for the inquisition; there isn't too much of a difference from Ork design...
Yea, so there is a lot of work to do on this one...
Hannibal Lectork
Very much a work in progress...
Black Orc heads for head, string and chains to keep him restrained. Should look cool, thinking of having a GSed straitjacket and a stretcher.
Humble beginnings, huh?
FLUFF and Thawn
++++
They say that no one knows how old a Space Marine can get because no Astartes ever get to die of natural causes. However, they also say that Orks are creatures with no grasp of higher technology whose very society is built on violence and scrap metal.
Which is true, but the fact that many interpret this as Orks being a stupid and lower form of life is actually one of the major reasons that marines rarely get to be very old.
Thawn knew this to be a fact, alone among his peers, owing to his rather unique experience of many things more deadly than commonly thought.
Plasma guns, however, everyone knows they are deadly. And Justicar Anval Thawn had, when we left him, just gotten a reminder.
We find him now in a plaza, his armor still on but battered and broken, his lifeless body hung up publicly as a statement and a warning.
Okay, he thought as things started to buzz into life inside his head. Time to go through the good old checklist.Fingers? Yes. Toes? Fine. Ears and eyes? Yes , and... Yes. Blurry though. Sense of pain? Yep, very functional. Wounds? Healed, as usual Now, can I get down from this pole? Let's find out!
Five minutes later, after much struggling and wriggling, a scream and a thud confirmed his success. He scuttled away into the darkness, scornfully rubbing his chin.
As our immortal avenger continues his pursuit, the eye of narrative moves across the plaza and over to a pole by now only decorated with a note stuck to it with a knife. The note made of canvas, read:
Dear Murderer,
You're pissing me off.
You do NOT want to see me angry!
Yours Sincerely,
Me.
As he hurried through the streets on his way to the local inquisitorial watch house. No doubt it would be abandoned and looted in these circumstances, but it would make a good base of operations.
It was painfully obvious that he would have to enter a whole new level of commitment. Now it was personal...
Anval Thawn, Justicar in the Grey Knights, decorated with terminator honours, would have to go into SCOT MODE!
As this process is going to take some time for him, we'll join him again when he is done.
++++
'Til later

P.S. I'd love to hear some suggestions on the Leman Russ thing, what should I do?
Story Ideas would certainly be very welcome as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: And the update continues.
I want to hear you guys' thoughts, Dreadknight or Dreadnought for heavy support?
DreadK Pros:
- Real weapons ( sword, hammer)
- Easy magnetizing
- Lots of conversions to take inspiration from.
- Good in game, feared on the battlefield.
- Awesome for "gentleman" conversion with hat/ cane etc.
DreadK Cons:
- Kit is hard to put together.
- Hard to pose, kit is fairly monopose.
- Bad rep, in game and due to Wardhate.
- Mainstream.
DreadN Pros:
- Classic.
- Awesome kit (I get a venerable dread kit, just because it is more awesome)
- Also good in game. But shootier and slower.
- Easy to switch weapons.
- Also a lot of conversions to grad inspiration.
- Cheaper.
- Easy to make detachable hat/ mustache. Maybe magnetized cane.
DreadN Cons:
- Fridge on legs.
- No sensible/ supercool weapons ( swords, hammers)
- Monopose, because of few possible positions.
- No baby carrier jokes.
- Worse in game ( I want it to be kitted as a CC machine)
Your opinions? I am leaning towards a ven dread to use as a regular dread. ( Or actual Ven. Dread if list allows)
And to round off this evening, here are some funny pictures that I have made and can be found ( among LOTS of other funny things at my deviant art)

Self-explanatory...
Baconmarines chapter
I play SO much Team Fortress 2, this was of course a given.
Pyromarine!
Might even do an actual Team Fortress themed Tac Squad.
If there are any other huge TF2 fans out there, PM me and we can get together on steam
The strike squad is looking good. It will be interesting to see what you do with the Leman Russ and Hannibal Lectork.
I'm really liking your fluff. It's not like stuff you'd read from BL... It's something better. the Anval Thawn mini is so cool too.
If you're leaning toward a Dreadnought then get one. However if you want it kitted out from they're not as good as Dread Knights. My favourite Dreadnought weapons load out is a twin linked autocannon. They can just tear almost anything up!
I LOVE the bacon marine. maybe you should make a bacon marine tactical squad instead of a Team Fortress themed Tac Squad. I've Never heard of Team Fortress Sorry. I might check it out though!
Now THATS an update! I love the look of Thawn, and the fluff and drawings are hilarious! More of these please!
As for the Russ, imo its lacking a big, brutal (preferably multi-barreled) gun. I'd love to see the fina result no matter what do make of it though!
Dredknight or Drednough?
Well, if you prefer the drednough id say go for it, but personally I think the knight is more fitting (and cooler, if it wasnt for the baby-carrier....)
And I also really want to see how that weirdboy turns out, so bet busy
Discovered a fantastic new way of getting steadier hands. Origami! Cranes in particular I've found to be seriously beneficial to my painting precision.
The trick is to try something quite simple and then make it smaller and smaller. I started with post-its and then started to divide them into smaller squares as I got better and more bored, until I hit my size cap at one sixteenth of a post-it.
Try it
Dreadnought turnout I bought a venerable dreadnought yesterday and started assembly today. I was not disappointed!
I figure that if I use blue-tack or blu-tac or whatever it is called, and then use glue sparingly, I can have a dreadnought with a thousand faces and six load-outs from the kit alone.
It also means that I can use one of the front panels to make a detachable top hat/ monocle/ mustache. You'll see...
However, I will not go down the route of a regular old psyfleman dreadnought, that just feels dirty. I want it crunching people in a brutal melee like in the DoW games, all the while going; "Cheerio, good chap! Mind if I butt in? Oh I do say the weather is quite lovely today, For The Emperor and crumpets and all that."
SO, Current projects are!
In order of importance. - Hannibal Lectork ( still in planning stage, need to buy small chains and devise a way to make a stretcher and warp-powers)
- Thawn ( 85% done, just the banner left)
- Paladins ( 4 of them, assembly soon)
- Dread ( under construction, couldn't keep my hands off of it)
- Russ ( least important, will have to do some major work on the turret in order to get some sort of mean looking cannon)
Til Later in the week, where I will answer to the wonderful comments you guys have made, warms me old heart it does.
DaBedman
Must admit I haven't read everything yet, but have looked at all the photos, and this is full of win The GK paint jobs look really nice, I liked the Acolyte conversions on page 1. Great work
Thanks guys, it's really nice to know that people like what I do. It's what keeps this blog going.
@rodgers37: Thanks man, glad you like the pics. Incidentally, though I don't know if you actually mean the fluff, but if that is it then I have just made another thread dedicated to JUST that.
Also, my new dread will get a special conversion treatment along with it being VERY customizable.
@MrMerlin: Thanks again man, I'm glad to have you as a regular. Also, I might even do another quickie tonight with fluff and some dread WIP pictures.
In the next update I will tell my tale of my day at the local GW store.
Among other things I won around 130 dollars worth of Wh40k books in a small tournament.
I played my first games. A free-for-all special character brawl with Karamazov (didn't go well)
I won four games in a row with my 100pts of Grey Knight strike squad. The tournament was max 100pt, only troops, 1v1 on a very small and square board.
Games (so I don't forget):
#1: versus Immortals (my own models, as a matter of fact...)
#2: Immortals again.
#3: Eldar Guardians.
#4: Crimson Fists space marines.
Also won best painted squad.
There will be pictures and some fluff about the victories! Stay Tuned!
This is the Games Workshop Anniversary update, from Games Workshop in Stockholm!
I spent the entire day at my local GW and it was awesome. This is the story of my anniversary day.
Lottery in the street. That is me in the turquoise Tobuscus hoodie, and some people I made friends with during the day. Came so close to winning, just a few numbers to high, had fun though. But it was freezing outside.
Arena of Death Next up was the Arena of Death Special Character Free-for-All that wasn't so free-for-all after all. I ran Karamazov, the only sensible thing to do, and was randomly deployed next to a Tau commander whom I dispatched fairly quickly. I decided to team up with Crimson Fist character Pedro Kantor versus a death squad of other characters across the map, who were also teaming up. Before I could get into bombarding the living hell out of everyone, however, I became tied up in a deadly duel to the death with Cypher, the fallen angel. He was the brother of the Tau commander I had just devastated, and wanted revenge. Gentleman as I am, I cannot refuse a man the right to a chance to redeem his brother's honour. This battle became one for the ages, blow after blow was dealt but none would relent. Fierce swings narrowly missed the agile Space Marine and in return; attacks would bounce off of the massive hulk of the Throne of Judgement. After 3 turns, we had each dealt one another 1 wound, Karamazov was hurt from earlier, so each also totaled 1 wound left. In the end, Pedro Kantor charged in and dispatched the pesky Dark Angel. Joy to all but to Cypher, Karamazov was now free to fire his orbital strike relay and promptly got his brain fried by an Eldar Farseer. Feth it. Statistics would have had me kill him 3 times over. The dice did not agree.
100 point mini tournament
Setting up. Games were played on a roughly 30x30 inch square. Rules were: Deployment - Roll to see who goes first, this person picks a side and deploys within 6 inches from the edge, in squad coherency. The other person deploys on the opposite side in the same fashion. Rules and Restrictions - No terminator armor (kind of bummed about that, would have loved to see my termies go to town). Only troops and nothing else. May take upgrades if points allow. Not a single point of leniency, 102 points is not acceptable. Winner is the one who has the most points on the board after 20 min.
Game one:Grey Knights vs. Immortals Immortals won deployment and first turn, sets up in a tower so as to deter me from charging. I set up for a shooting game and we duke it out. Volleys of gauss energy tears the ground around our heroes as they prepare to return fire from behind a chest-high wall. Expert reflexes do what shining armor cant and not a single shot finds a mark. Now it's their turn. Storm bolters flare in the rain, psilencer starts warming up to fire with a low humming as the knights take aim and fire at the skeletal outlines at the top of the tower. One immortal falls but returns, true to his name. As if that was not enough, the necrons' next volley reaps the life of one of our shining heroes. Morale is low, things look grim. That is, until the psilencer can bring its power to bear and end the existence of a full pair. Immortals... we put their name to the test.
With renewed resolve, not even the loss of another battle brother deter the Imperiums' Finest from easily wiping out the remnants of their foe. *Brofist*
Game two:Grey Knights vs. Immortals Once again my opponent wins the roll and deploys on high ground. I try for another shoot-out until I lose a man to the first barrage while not actually managing to kill anything myself. I decide to do a suicide charge, death or glory! Psilencer carrier stays behind for covering fire and manages to pick off an immortal as his brethren advance, swords at the ready. Armor gleaming in the sunlight and gauss igniting the grass beneath their feet, they press on, losing a second brother to the unearthly fire. As the end of the game draws near, clock ticking, they descend upon their prey. Two swipes each makes short work of the lumbering robots and the retaliation does nothing but scratch the metal of their blessed suits of armor. A desperate gamble and yet another glorious victory for the imperium.
Game three:Grey Knights vs. Eldar Guardians I win deployment on a map with a big building on one side, standing on this building will give you a 3+ cover save, so no boon for my marines. But I figure that I can lure my enemy into a trap. I deploy so that if he chooses to set up in the building; only one of his units will be in range to shoot me at a time while I can shoot with all of my guys. Should he choose not to deploy in the building, then he becomes extremely vulnerable to getting charged.
He deploys in the building and gets shot to bloody Eldar chunks.
Game four: Grand Final, Grey Knights vs. Crimson Fists
There was an unpleasant chill in the air as the two former allies lined up on either side of the forest. Although the enemy was only an outline in the early morning light, there was no doubt as to their identity. The inquisition had since long had this particular squad of Crimson Fists pinpointed without their knowledge. It had been deemed that what these unfortunate souls seen during their recent and successful campaign against a deamon host in this planetary system, was far too dangerous to let slip.
As Justicar Caestus the Aeigs performed his pre-battle customary armor-maintenance rituals, he admitted to himself that he would actually wanted to think that the purge of his fellow Space Marines had been a difficult decision for those in charge to make. But his highest superior was Lord Inquisitor Fyodor Karamazov. During the briefing; Karamazov hadn't even cared to listen to the finish, he'd just shouted "PUUUURGE!" and waved his sword, which he incidentally also used as a walking stick when not carried around on his throne.
They could see that the Crimson Fists milled around apprehensively, not quite convinced of the threat, but still keeping their distance. Thus first strike went to the Grey Knights, reaping a casualty before the prey even had the time to react. Scrambling to retaliate, the red hand marines started to charge forward through the trees. As a stray bolter round managed to pierce Justicar Caestus helmet, his brothers went into a righteous fury. Flames of vengeance burning behind their eyes, the Grey Knights also began to charge, force swords flaring furiously in sympathy.
All caution thrown to the wind, the melee became nothing short of a bloodbath, chainsword wailing and biting into power armour while glowing swords sliced the very air and set fire to the rain. In the end, only two were left standing. Standing tall above the slain, two Grey Knights; their armor sullied with the blood and gore of both brother and foe.
I also won on the painting side of things, bringing me up on a uncontested 16 points (3+3+3+3+(4 for painting))
This is what I won.
So. Many. Books. That. I. Won't. Read! Though I AM very happy with this, I am painfully aware that Black Library isn't really high literature and it's certainly a bit sour to think that I could have gotten a 1000 point Draigowing army for the worth of these books... First world problem... I guess I'll read them and then gift them to friends on birthdays.
And lastly, a quick picture of my Dreadnought in progress.
I dig your work. The lantern OSL seems just very fine.
On a side note, and I hate being the bearer of bad news, but I am pretty sure Thawn is wielding a halberd. But does that beat wearing a kilt? I am not sure. I like the kilt.
Awesome awesome awesome! This is my favorite blog.... I will be back waiting for more updates and the fluff...... one of the most entertaining reads I have read yet! Keep it coming man! Best blog out yet!

High praise indeed, I feel honored. It is feedback like this that keeps me inspired, it really is. Thanks!
I bet they are not the best read....... but they might be better then Charles Dickens. I said "might" as I am reading "Little Dorrit" right now to see and to prove to my sister that I can read classic literature.

I´ve never actually gotten around to reading Dickens. But I do read tons and tons of Terry Pratchett, and that man uses the language like no ones business.
Also, YAY on breaking 5000 views! Celebration by update tomorrow!
Thawn is now done! His whacky adventures can now continue! Here are the pictures of the final results. A slight discoloration on the cloth next to the pole, something that isn't actually visible in real life. god dang it. You can see that the Weapon is clearly of halberd length, which is really the only reason for the actual halberds to grant +2 Init. The sword with the inquisition mark just looks to dang cool.
Two pictures in slightly different light. As I still do not have a photobox, this is what happens. I am very happy with hoe the T came out in the end, I had set my sights on a more complex pattern but eventually settled with this simplistic design as I realized my own limits. I played it fairly safe and I think is was a success.
Dreadnought is ready to be primed, I greenstuffed a mustache/ beard combo and gave him a headlight to act as a monocle. I think that the headlight is a nice touch as it lends a bit of credibility as to the presence of a monocle in the first place.
I then managed to succeed in sculpting a beautiful and smooth top hat to go with the overall gentlemanly style of this ancient warrior/ lover/ dashing fellow. It is however not primed, so the plastic rim looks a bit funky at the moment, but it will all work out in the end.
@A1rebirth: Darn it, that weirdboy is proving to be quite a challenge, of both execution and concept. Please bear with me. And yes, this dreadnought will kick so much ass that Khorne wont be able to sit straight for weeks.
@SelvaggioSaky: Indeed, I have learnt more English from reading him than I ever have from school. I have about 35 Discworld books in on a shelf in my room, and I'll be darned if I don't manage to break it some day just by sheer weight of words alone. He has been a great teacher to me, I actually have a B+ in the Cambrige Certificate of Proficiency in English owing to him. He is the reason I write as I do, because I try to emulate his style and fluency in structure; hardest thing I ever tried. But I'm getting there!
@bigfish: Thanks man, but I must admit that I may have made everything sound slightly more heroic than it actually was. Mostly my opponents set up so that charging was difficult and then we just stood and hurled dice at each other... But don't tell any one!
HA, the Dred is GREAT! I love the gentlemany feeling of it!
The only things I'd do different would be to work on the mustarche a little more to make it look more...well.... mustachey.....hairy....
and he needs something to smoke! A cigar or a pipe!
Well, I was thinking that since he is a robot, the mustache wouldn't actually be hair, thus not requiring the much more difficult task of getting the texture right.
I will do what I can though with the paintjob, you might be surprised... I may have some plans *taps nose*
Not so sure about the pipe, however. It is something that would suit but I'm not so sure of how to make it and then make it work on the model. I think I'll play it safe. Might add one on later if I get inspired, but I've always been conservative with extra gubbins.
HONAW wrote:That is going to be one fun dreadnought! Bringing some happiness into the drab and oppressed world of 40k.
He will also bring class and politeness, along heavy armament and immeasurable pain.
bigfish wrote:i think these greyknights are my favourate, they are just so fun
Thanks man, they're actually my favourite grey knights too And this blog is so much fun.
SelvaggioSaky wrote:Great Dred!
I also have all of Terry novels, even Nation and Good Omens (love them a lot)
I've got those as well, and while they're good they are not as good as some of the Discworld books. There is no real sense of coherency in the world they are set in, not compared to Discworld. Which disappointed me greatly, kind of like how some of the stories in the Grey Knight codex felt detached from the actual universe.
And before you round up the villagers with the pitchforks for even daring to compare such an accomplished writer with the Wardman; I've been thinking about having a go at some of the texts in the codex. To rewrite them as I actually think I can see a working concept behind them, although lost under the bad writing structure.
So what do you guys think, should I take a swing at rewriting the Draigo fluff in my own words, to at the least try to redeem the story in my own eyes?
Do you think I should, do you think I could?
Back from a LOOOOONG hiatus. Sometimes you just need to take a break from things until enthusiasm comes around again, I'm sure any and all of you have gotten this some time or other.
That is no excuse however for not saying anything for ages, and I beg your forgiveness for that. I am however in this hobby for the long haul so what does a few months here and there matter?
The story so far: 1. I am truly sorry, A1rebirth, but your weirdboy may never get completed. I hope you can live with that, and I hope I can too. This is in part because I sold most of my ork stuff to a friend who was starting up a green tide list, and in part due to me completely blanking out on how to convert it. Seriously, I spent weeks but couldn't settle on anything I liked. I may pick it up at some point, though, but don't quote me on that.
2. The fluff will be restarted. Thawn's story will end with him gearing up. We will never know what happened after that, but he is immortal so I wouldn't worry to much.
3. The new fluff will be a more general outline of the army, from Thawn's perspective.
4. I bought a dreadknight.
5. I bought some Scibor minis.
6. There will be a lot more necrons in the future.
7. I have figured out a way to take somewhat better pictures, as can be seen from my Lord Commissar/ Ordo Xenos Inquisitor dude. Would love some feedback on the photo quality on those.
8. This blog will continue, although the title will change based on the current projects. Please give me suggestions on general titles. Karamazov's Krazy Krew is perhaps not that of a good way to go.

Pictures and Comments
- I have completed the last of the terminators. I now have a total of 10.
- The LC - Inquisitor pimp guy needs a name. I made him because I wanted to do a silly but high quality paint job, he was a lot of fun to do. 40 points for him and Psychotroke grenades. Sometimes you may want to get just a very cheap HQ on the table and he will be an excellent way to do that while empowering a terminator squad immensely with his LSD grenades.
I am also looking for a way to symbolize the grenades on the model, but that can wait unil I find some cool bitz for that.
- I also did a complete overhaul of the way I do Power Weapons. I now do a blue-white blending that I think comes out very nice, please give me feedback on the new weapons.
- The Moustache-nought is done. I would love to hear you thoughts on that. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on it in my local GW store.
And now to something completely different; a picture dump. All of them put into spoilers for your convenience.

Inquisitor

Terminators and the new weapon design

And now some pictures that I took at the "tournament" we played to celebrate 6th edition being released.
It was 750 points, doubles. I played with a dark eldar player and we managed to snag second place actually.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your new fluff, and minis!
I dig the Moustarchenough, love the paintjob! The Inquisitor looks fantastic, dude! Love the "pimp" color choice. Only point of critique: there's a mould line on his arm....
Also digging the new weapon design!
As for the blog's title, I actually liked the Krazy Krew. Keep it.
Oh and that day in the GW store looked like a lot of fun! And I recognize that store !
About the mould line, I tried to make it go away but it is a right pain in the bum to do that on such a delicate piece of cloth.
I didn't want to risk ruining the folds and frankly you can't see the mould line in real life at all, what with looking at it from another angle and all.
No problem man, good to see you back anyway. My orks have been shelved due to them being on the ofther side of the world.... But im about to start a small chaos space marine nurgle army with the new codex on the horizon. I have told my self im buying one unit at a time and no more untill thats converted and painted haha, see how far i make it T_T
@A1rebirth: I hear you man, it is very hard to just do one model at a time. I have also longingly looked at nurgle marine lists and the new nurgle stuff but promised myself not to cave in.
In other news, the update will contain pictures of my new stuff whích contain some interesting things such as:
Scibor minis, Victoria Lamb minis, completed Trazyn, repainted necron warriors, battle report, dreadknight and some inquisition warband stuff.
Not much of it have been painted but most importantly I have found my mojo again. Stuff will finally be done!
