It's well written, has good animation, believable characters, a decent plot, and has created a community that doesn't self-cannibalize at the drop of a hat.
It helps to recapture the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning to watch cartoons. It's a wonderful, childlike feeling.
But mainly, I love it for the same reason I love Doctor Who when I started watching it.
It's fun. It's entertaining. You start wondering what next week's episode will be.

Cause it's aimed at little girls? It's sort of a requirement for that targeted audience.
its not aimed at little girls, its aimed at the family.
ive seen lots of other shows out there aimed at kids, possibly girls specifically, and they weren't cute to me. plus faust has done other shows, and i never found them cute.

What does Imperial Guard ( in your avatar ) have. that MLP doesn't have?
Its just a visual representation, most people are beyond that intolerance xD
You get your lasguns and exterminatus, MLP get sonic rainboom and Buccaneer Blaze
You get psyckers, MLP gets telekinesis
You get your brother saving brother, MLP gets pony saving lots of ponies
Yoy get your drama via Chaos temptations, Rainbow dash fought against hers too.
MLP has everything warhammer has, and a bunch more in form of Parodies.
The only difference is, you take comfort in thinking little soldiers is manly. Which.... I respect the guys that tolerate MLP wayyyyyyyyy more.
because atleast they seem confident in what they like.

I think it's quite awkward when a grown man actively watches a little girls show by his own will.

Blood and Gore and Intensity and Thrill...
People can watch what they want, I just don't see how MLP would appeal to a grown man.
this man needs some links. its been stated that its not made specifically for little girls. im a teen,so not 'grown' but ive said my reasons. i was against the show, but made a bet with someone here on dakka.now look at me,im defending it. its a good show, once you stop B***ing bout the ponies and the girly colors.
Oh, and I did make the same bet klimino made earlier. I watched the pilot episode but couldn't keep with it. I didn't like the unnecessary slapstick, and well, the voices.

she finds some slim evidence pointing possibly to not wanting to be around her,so questions spike,a puny dragon. he lies so he can get some food, making pinkie think all her friends hate her. so she goes all insane. she throws a party by herself, with rocks, dust, and flour as the guests, and gets a split personality for each. one of her friends shows up,and asks her to come with her,but she refuses. her friend then drags her to another friends barn, were they throw her a surprise birthday party. realizing she forgot her own birthday, and it was all really so the surprise wouldn't be ruined, she reverts back to her normal self and they party.

As someone that was in your shoes less than 24 hours ago, I suggest you take the time to watch the show from the first episode. Why do you think it is stupid?
Because its just a basic premise shared by a lot of freaking kids shows. Friendship is magic, seriously they just gave the premise out along with the title in the first place. Then they have constant struggles that test their friendship and they end up remaining BFFs, its seriously oriented towards girls by trying to have characters that they can relate to. Those characters are similar to young children because they are also struggling to determine who is their friend and who is not, it also plays into the psychological aspect of growing up. They try to make as many friends as possible, even with people they've just met or people they're helping or even fighting, but in the end its just reflecting how younger children tend to get as many friends as possible over getting true friends. However girls have their own inner circle of friends which is represented by the tight knit group of ponies who remain friends no matter whatever happens. Its like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in my opinion.

How does that make it a fantastic show to watch? What factors do you have that can prove that it is a good show.
The show is basic and I find nothing that can redeem it in my own opinion. The story has been done over and over and over by other girl's shows so there's nothing new there. The characters are incredibly typical archetypes and that has no interest for me. In fact I can't find anything I truly enjoy about the show because its all been offered elsewhere and in better formats. Xiaolin Showdown was the same way, but the main difference between Xiaolin Showdown and My Little Pony is the fact that I enjoyed Xiaolin Showdown when I was a kid and the kind of show was still relatively new to me, I'm a grown man now so MLP doesn't impress me in the slightest and that's what makes the show stupid to me.

Wait, just because I don't think it's stupid, I automatically think it's fantastic? Slow down, man. No need to speak for me, I can do that just fine without you shoving words down my throat.
For the record, I never said it was fantastic. You've also provided no argument whatsoever for the show being stupid.
You're splitting hairs between friends and acquaintances.
The protagonists in the show all have friends and family. Twilight Sparkle and the other 5 met (as school children do) under circumstances that they usually don't want to (such as going to a new place like school). There, you're introduced to several people, you meet some, you like some, you dislike some. Not all of these people have to be exactly like you.
You haven't given me any evidence saying why you love it, because I would assume that if you love the show you find some positive qualities about it.
I find the show stupid because everything about it has been done in another girls show. I remember this show, Winx Club, that is the same exact show as My Little Pony. I don't find the shows entertaining, I find their humor lacking and the action is meh. That's why I believe its stupid.
The never ending story of a circle of giggling girls saving the world does not appeal to me. I didn't even like Sailor Moon and I think that show had better action scenes in it.
Besides, the character color pallets are similar between Winx and MLP.
So, you're admitting that you haven't read any of this thread? I've posted the answer to that question twice.
halonachos wrote:

No, really. Twice.

Same exact show? Uh, no, it is not.

I don't like X, therefore X is stupid is not a valid logical argument.
Winx Club and Sailor Moon aren't like My Little Pony?
Same archetypes based on character, they all manage to have special powers, they all have about six friends, and they all fight something evil that's trying to change their world. Yes completely different I guess.
I don't find love the show, I find it enjoyable because of the humor, gags, and the animation style... While the overabundance of pastels is grating at some points, the effects in the show are very good for a show designed at little girls.
There are also allusions to other works and myths, namely "ursa minor and ursa major" the artistic style for those two bears was awesome! Two animals based on the constellations. They have an artistic style to them, where they have an outline and made up of points of light, simulating the idea of stars.
Its the little things that make the show enjoyable. Now will I sit in a thread online and discuss how Hasbro is simply doing recolors on their toys to make money? no, but I will enjoy the show as long as it remains so.

A point that doesn't make sense? I don't like the show because its humor is stupid slapstick schtick. I don't like the show because its just annoying to look at, everything is way too colorful in my opinion. The story does not pique any interest I have and I cannot relate to the characters. If I cannot tolerate any of these factors then I cannot tolerate the show, those are pretty simple facts that explain my position well enough. I am not going to say I love a show just because the internet thinks its the next big thing since sliced bread. The show was created for young girls and I am well out of that demographic, the fact that I don't like the show is almost a given.
Also LCK, do you think that you have room for calling someone stupid when in fact you have made bigoted remarks before?

yup. i have. does that mean you arnt also? no,you still are. if anything it means i know what im talking about, having done it myself i know how it works.
however,it also means my words are tainted. but guess what? im not the only one calling you out. ive seen this stuff before, and i know your argument is flat. ive heard better, more belivable reason to not like the show, and have left them alone. but you? no,your just either arrogant, or a troll.

It comes across as very "unlike you, I don't let the internet think for me."
Anyway, you don't like the show. I get that.
So why did you come here and post about it? The OP already had his questions answered by the people he was asking.

You sir are angry that I happen to not like the same thing you do for my own personal reasons. You love a little kid's show okay, I think the show's stupid and I have yet see you say anything that would make me think otherwise besides "You're a troll because you don't like what I like.".

Because he was asking everyone about why people like the show, I responded by saying that I don't and gave reasons why. It helps him get a view of different aspects of the show and the dakka community's thoughts on the show. Now if I was really a troll then I would go to the MLP thread in the OT Forum and reply that the show is stupid and banal, but that's not a thread asking me my opinion. That's a thread dedicated to what you call "bronies".

angry? oh no sir,im laughing quite alot.
another thing, your leaving out details just to improve your argument. ive said twice now im ok with people not liking the show, its how YOU are saying you dont like it that makes you arrogant.

Uh, if you're going to lie, at least go back and edit the posts you're lying about.
You responding by saying that it was stupid, and nothing else.

Then you asked why and I responded and then you said that those points were invalid. Also I could say that the show is stupid because there is no educational growth to be earned by watching it unlike Sesame Street.

so good for you, your as stubborn as me. almost.
You are the one insulting me for calling a show you enjoy stupid, you really should grow up.

Halonacho, I think they are trying to say, they understand you dont care for MLP, which is fine.
But they think its weird how your scale goes from either Its Stupid directly to Fantastic.
Its weird to not have a middle ground ( despite your description of it sounds neutral, yet calling it stupid ), hence why they called you a troll.
I would probably enjoy the show if it wasn't about the most annoying girly toy on the planet. Yes, I find ponies incredibly annoying. And no cartoon will ever change the stupid annoying theme song and the stupid annoying girly products that ruined TV every time the adverts came on when I was little...
If it was based on anything else I probably would've liked it. Sounds alright, though Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends could've outdone it.
