This was an awesome event last year. I find travelling with friends to play 40k on the same team very enjoyable and a welcome change from the singles format.
My wife has pre-approved this trip for me, now to find a team^^.

I have a suggestion for a team name for you guys...
BnB Banner Boys - and if you are nice we will let you carry our spiffy blue banner in for us. Might even let you carry our army bags as well if you ask nicely.
It's on like Donkey Kong buddy! All in good fun! Looking forward to having you guys lose to us this year..... Automatically Appended Next Post: Bikeninja wrote:Anything put on by Dicehead and GA is going to be good and done right. I may have to look at trying for this one.

I had a ton of fun last year. It was easily my favorite tournament ever AND there was a ton of problems with that venue. This year will be way better with this new location. I wouldn't miss this for the world. If I had to choose to go to 10 GTs or just the ATC the choice would be easy. This event and Wargamescon are musts for me but Feast of Blades is looking pretty good as well.
You get so much value out of this event. Trying to scrape out just a measly 5 pts of 30 for your teammates is a blast. No game ever feels like it is meaningless because you are competing with your opponent but also you want to kick ass for your team. I would say that their are less rules issues and sportsmanship is greater in this multi-game team format.

+1 to all that. I can only travel to one major event and this is my first choice. Let's see if we can double the number of teams in attendance this year. I'd love to see some west coast teams attend.

The mall is a great location for a tournament - lots of local food, cheap hotels, etc. A bit further from the airport - but not extreme.
Agree with Shinkaze - every game had meaning.....and uber-tough match ups. Especially when you knew you had the tough match - but still tried to scrape some points up somewhere.

I'm thinking Scarab swarms might be really strong at the ETC but will having one on the team matter at ATC? Maybe 5 man teams will be better than 8 because now that army that is looking for a great match up might be a liability instead of a advantage.

If it was mothers day I could see that as a problem. Seems like fathers day could only go in your favor. That and the fact that you know you dont have to observe it on the exact date.

For those of us that live far enough away to warrant flying in, its kind of a bummer that this takes place 2 hours from any major airport (at least from what I can tell). Kinda moot though, I don't think I can get 5 guys that are willing to make the trekk regardless, at least for 2012.
Looks cool though and the synaps3 blogging on regarding last years definitely piqued my interest.

I am so excited for this event this year I had a blast last year.
I already have two tips for the future of this event but I see many things have already been changed for the better. So I am happy already.
First- Venues near Airports are smart. If there really isn't a decent airport within 1 hour drive thats rough for a lot of out of towners.
Second- And most important. The reason the ETC is so cool is because when you have 8 players on a team you get to see some people playing with unique armies and lists...this makes the whole thing more fun and I belive more competitive and more of a test to see who is the better teams out there.
When the maority of teams comes with:
1) Gray Knights
2) Spcae Wolfs
3) Imperial Guard
4) Blood Angels
5) Death Wing
It can get borring. There might be ways to ensure we see a good spread of army types and still remain at the 5 player level teams? Then again that is if anyone agrees with my points.

In the future if the event keeps growing I'm sure it could get moved to a bigger city. Unfortunately for now cost is an issue, I'm sure the organizers don't want to lose money on an event, I know they don't make much money on it. But until there are enough teams coming to warrant it I don't see it moving.
I completely agree though, if it becomes a huge event it needs to move. So make it grow and bring your team!

I totally understand running an event where you live and operate -- putting something together hours away from where you live would be hellish. Still, my issue (issue being a strong word), is these folks have sort of staked a claim as being the ATC by virture of being the first to organize, yet have made it infeasible for anyone living out west to attend.
Its all good though, just a consideration for the future then any real knock on the event or the organizers.

Actually Chattanooga has an decent sized airport - and is only 1/2 hour or so from the event. Several folks flew in last year for it.
Nashville (where I live) is about an hour and 1/2 drive away and is a major airport. Atlanta about 2 hours away.
Knoxville is another option - and is about 1 hour (maybe less) away.
One of our team mates flew into Chattanooga from Chicago last year - think is was a decent rate and easy flight for him.
So - net/net - check into your options a little - nothing on the east coast will be CHEAP from the west coast - but if you go through Chi-town/Dallas/etc - you might be able to get a decent connection.
Hotels near the venue may not be 5 star - but are decent and reasonably priced and lots of easy food. If enough out of towners were coming in - maybe the hosts could arrange some kind of shuttle or something (don't know - just throwing it out).
I do think if it continues to grow - that it will probably move to Nashville area pending venues (one of the host stores - Grand Adventures - is near Nashville - just need to make sure that the tourney will pull enough people to at least break even).

While I agree Chattanooga is off the beaten path. Most people typically prefer not to make multiple connections to reach a destination but unless you are always in a major city that is not going to happen. There are a few other major tournaments that I would not consider that easy to travel. But considering I flew in from Switzerland last year and did not find it to cumbersome. I think most would find it not quite as difficult as they would imagine.

Cleveland is getting a new airport next year due to 2 major Amazon warehouses opening. It will be a major airport making flights easier. The plan is to move it to Nashville in the future. I checked today and there are direct flights to Chattanooga from every airport in CA. There will be a 5 star hotel that will be finished by event date that is only 3-5 mins away as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: We did have several players from the West coast that had no issues with their flights last year, so its not impossible.

I agree 100%. 5 teammates means 80% of the field is made of the top tournament armies. 8 man teams forces half the field to play outside the top books. And the strategy behind matching up 8 vs 8 with lots of book diversity is just that much deeper and better than 5 vs 5.
I know 8 man teams are a little harder to organize. But I don’t really think that much more. I know in my area it would be easier to smash two adepticon teams together than it would finding one odd person to add to our normal 4.
Just my 2 cents, good luck this year!
5321
Post by: Aldonis
I actually think the 8 man teams would be a blast.
But...as a team captain - getting 5 people is pretty dang hard to do and get them to stick with it. Both teams from my local club had drop outs and struggled to get teams together.
Also - there is a LOT more parity in the codex's and armies now. With one more Codex most likely dropping before July - you have a LOT more competitive armies than in the past. So I think you will see a wider mix.
And last year had a pretty wide swing as well - lots of BA,SW's, GK's - but a good number of Orc's, Eldar, a couple Tau, lot's of Marines, Dark Angels, Templars, a few Guard....but more variety than you are giving credit for above.
Plus some of those "less popular" lists are pretty deadly to the one's here.

It's hard to answer this - because different people want different things out of a tourney.
If you are "win or not fun" - this is a tough tournament - it has lots of GOOD players and a different strategy element around matchups of players/list. Any team can win on any given day - but it's a tough and grueling tournament.
If you are "play hard, want to win, but if I lose and learn it's still good" - this is a fun tournament. You most likely WILL be playing against highly experienced tournament gamers - many who have won or placed highly at big events in the past. You will face off against highly tuned lists and people that now have at least 1 year of experience in getting the matchup thing going. The extra strategy of the matchups is a lot of fun - but a different element that this tournament offers. You have to have a tight team - one that understands that you may get matched against a terrible army for you to face - to allow your team mates to have GOOD matchups.
If you are "I just play for fun - I like fluffy armies and think only dicks bring hard core WAAC lists" - then this might not be a lot of fun. The tourney organizers expect that sportsmanship is a component - but a fluffy list does not equal sportsmanship. You should expect to face the hardest list that people can come up with - and people that are playing to win - and win all three objectives as they all count towards total points.
Personally, I've done well at major tourney's in the past ( GW GT's back in the day), I somewhat consider myself a fluff bunny, and play mostly to have fun and the tactical and strategic challenges the hobby brings me. This was pretty much the most fun I've had at any tourney. I had 4 of my good friends as team mates - we laughed, joked, reveled in victory, commensurated defeat - and had a great time.

I know you guys think that Chattanooga is a big city, but it really isn’t.
Flight on the ATC weekend from:
Phoenix to Chattanooga $464, 1 stop and 6 Hours 53 minute coming, 8 Hours 50 Minutes going
Phoenix to Atlanta $349 Non-stop 3 Hours, 35 Minutes
I would say that is a bit of a difference.
And renting a car and driving for 2 hours is not a good answer and adds a lot of time and $$$

It is indeed expensive to fly from one end of the country to the other.. This is not news.
The drive from ATL to the tournament venue is not a bad drive at all.
Seems like if you rented an SUV type vehicle between the whole team or tried to communicate with a local for ride up it should help really cut the travel expense.

I don't think anyone has said that. I live here and I have no delusions about that at all; not sure where you're getting that.
There is a direct flight to Chattanooga from Washington DC and there are plenty of flights to and from DC if anyone is upset about driving.
Also, for the record, there will be no major aiport in Cleveland; if there is one it will be a shipping/private airport for Amazon/Fedex/etc.

Cleveland - or Chattanooga for that matter - is far froma Metropolis - which is good and bad.
It's a little harder to get to and a little more expensive. You'll either pay more to fly into Chattanooga - or less and rent a car from ATL. Sorry - but that's a fact.
But - the rooms will cost less, the food less, you won't pay for parking, it's a small town and easy to get around in (relatively), there is a lot to do siteseeing wise in the area for those not into gaming, and the guys that run it do a STELLER job of putting it on.
So...it's a matter of personal choice I guess.
Personally, this tournament had more overall experienced and top shelf players at it than pretty much any I've seen before, the format is a lot of fun, and the comaraderie that the team format brings is a blast.
Give it a shot!

To answer the question anyone might have about top tier armies this is what the top 4 teams brought last year in order of placement:
GK, BA, IG, SW, BT
CD, IG, EL, DE, SW
EL, GK, we didn't play them so I don't know but I know the Da Boyz were intentionally bringing unusual list to prove a point
and out team in 4th had Sisters, BA, CSM, Orks and SW
Many of these lists were unusual creations that could have a much better chance to do well for the team than they would have to win a major event on their own
Automatically Appended Next Post: I could see where someone would say well look at the armies that were fielded by the team that won. I would reply that team arguably had the best mix of players but only closely followed by teams 2 and 3 and just a little less closely by the team I was on in 4th place who doesn't play very often these days.

Nay.
The core of the team had to choose between wargamescon and ATC and they chose WGC. I did get an offer to fill a spot on another team, but I've got a little ankle biter now and the timing wasn't good.
Maybe next year! Come out to DaBoyz GT if you wanna see the DE

B-rad wrote:I am so excited for this event this year I had a blast last year.
One way to get a spread of army types while at the same time keeping the teams at 5 people would be to group exsisting army books into 5 catagories. Each team picks an army from each catagory. You can spread armies around the catagories to get a more varied distribution of armies present at the event.
Catagory 1 (pick one army from this list)
Blood Angels
Dark Angels
Black Templars
Catagory 2
Grey Knights
Space Wolves
Imperial Guard
Catagory 3
Tyranids
Orks
Eldar
Daemons
Catagory 4
Dark Eldar
Tau
CSM
Catagory 5
Sisters
Space marines
Necrons
Now don't kill me because of the catagories. I just did this off the top of my head and didn't give to much thought to the armies in each list. Though GK, SW and IG all together was what got me to think of this. I don't think a complaint of "but my team only plays GK, IG and SW" will hold much water. Most guys have more than one army and if they don't, then this event filled up anyway so it can stand to lose a few teams and not get hurt numbers wise.
Jst a way to promote army diversity while keeping everyone in the same boat.

I think restrictions are bad in general. Tournaments are tending to move away from that (thankfully).

Is beer allowed at the venue?
24717
Post by: Shinkaze
It's an interesting idea but I don't put as much into tiers as other people. In BP you want to win big and I find it difficult to do so with even the supposedly god like GK. KPs are a son of a gun when you want to go 30-0 with a high # of KP in your list.
@Eidolon Brilliant question! We will have a cooler if so.

Sat around and talked rumour mill with visting teams, established a team from Cali was the farthest out but someone from Switzerland was present. Many spectacular conversions, I believe the Guard army dressed up like a World War I army complete with Krieg models was bar none the best. The trophies though are spectacular devices, especially Numero Uno's.

I think I remember that one. If it was the ones with the mountains in the back ground I do then. That was one of the ones I thought was neat. The guy did a really good job on his display board, it was def a top board IMO. I saw one army that had the best looking blood angels scheme AND painted army or miniature I have ever seen in my life. The fellow did not enter into the painting competition out of respect for others and his awesome integrity. I have so much respect for the guy, and I also had the greatest privilege of my warhammer career by playing against the army. Not only was the guy really nice and humble, it was one of the best games played for me because of the precious models on the table.
Also thank you for the website addy I heard the ATC.org part but the WH blended into the rest of the commotion going on in the area.

yeah, my team was on the same set of tables for 3 rounds. So I played on the table next to him round 1, and then on his table round 2. Went for food, came back and it was cleaned up. $100 shoes walking around in that.

Kel-El (Tony) had the best looking army without a doubt. Glad he won best paint. i hope to see a picture of my finished missile launcher guy after he gets done changing him into a Space Wolf from a Blood Angel!
Also, I'm gonna jump on the band wagon of how this tournament was the most fun I've ever been to. There was almost 0 douchbaggery. The fact that you're even there means there are 4 other guys who don't hate you and that they'd want to hang out with you for a weekend. This cuts down on jerks.
(except the wrecking bols team with the magic reserve dice and firing Mantacores 7 times.... woops)
All in all I can't wait for next year.... Really a great tournament.

Going to go ahead and chime in that this was quite possibly my most enjoyable tournament experience to date. NOVA is awesome in its own regard but the fact that there is so much variety, commraderie and fun to be had puts this event at the top of must attend if you're in the Southeast.

Hey Andrew! It was a pleasure playing you. I was way over agressive on my strat against you...overlooked Mesphipon or w/e his name is lol on the right side of the board. Yeah the tournament was really good, no jerks in my games! I am prob going to take a couple of weaks off from painting since I painted as a full time job 6 days a week for 5 months lol. The guy you replaced actually turned up later at the tournament and is in my possession. So because of your generosity PM me your address, and I will paint the guy in a Blood Angels theme for you and return him to you. (unless you want him as is.)
Also thank you for your comment about the best looking army!! I don't want to take any credit from the guy that won best painted - the DE army. I got the Best Painting Theme, but they are pretty much the same imo. Thank you again.

Have to say Kal-el that Wolves army was PHENOMENAL!! I think after I finished my game against the guy on your team playing the Nightscythe army, I spent a good 20 minutes staring at your miniatures on the table against monolythic.
As for Steve's army, it was one of the most gorgeous things I have seen in a long time. I had to opportunity to play him and I would say it was a blast but man did he end up with a raw deal. He dropped in a 10 Man Assault Squad, blew up a Razorback without injuring the occupants but ended up killing 3 of his own models and they proceeded to Fall Back off of the table...
Pretty impressed with my Standing personally being around 39 or something...didn't think I had done that well!

The medical concern in question was part of apparently a thyroid condition and is called weeping. It's not contagious or infectious or even truly harmful (doesn't make it unnerving though.) The guy was in the hospital on day two so best of luck to him. Anyway...
The event was an absolute blast. Even better than last year (with A/C this time!) I really enjoyed playing all my opponents and even got to play a different army every round!
@Garron: Which one where you? we played you guys round 5. I was the Dark Eldar from Karmic Justice, just putting names with faces.

LOL thank you! Yeah Steves army was fun to play but I hated shooting his guys and killing them...I would have rather have let him keep them on the table lol. I went to the linked website to look at his army again...so awesome. I am striving to get mine to look like his. O and thank you to the person that found the ML guy on the ground and gave him back.

I knew it was going to come down to your SW and that DE army that was so amazing. Glad you got best theme though. That display was awesome, and good work with all the LEDs in that thing. I was the SW player next to you in the last round wishing my army looked that good. I am glad to hear your long fang turned up. Also props to the Ogre converted Nurgle demons army I played in round 3. That was one of the best conversion armies I have seen. The counts as Epidemus mounted model he used was the tits.
Amazing armies aside it was a great tournament, with great organizers, that ran as smoothly as anyone could have hoped for a tourney that size to run. I am definitely looking forward to next year.

Eh... found an error on the round based prizes.
For those not in the know, whichever team won a round (most battle points), that team got a battle force. Nice deal, except for round 4, which was sponsored by Warpath, that team got Warpath stuff.
Shane had Karmic Justice (my team) winning round 4, but we actually won round 5. Doesn't bother me (didn't plan on winning anything) but some guys on my team are kinda upset as they don't want and don't care about Warpath, but would have loved the GW battle forces. Eh... to each their own. I actually really like my new Ork (Marauders) army.

To be honest I never post anything on forums since complaining online doesn't fix anything. I am 100% a lurker when it comes to online chatting but I feel the need to get this off my chest.
I just had to vent my frustration with one team we had the unfortunate experiences playing. The Jack Booted guys from Chicago where absolutely there to win at all costs. I understand that it is a tournament but the sheer level of douchbaggery did not go unnoticed. I hate to blame the whole team since not everyone had a bad experience playing them from our team but there Guard and Blood angel payers where almost unbearable.
Day two I over watched some of their games and saw the same attitude issues and on top of that I caught their space wolf player cheating with dice pick ups!! I couldn't believe it. I was glad that they did not win the event. I think their Ork player won best general but he seemed to be the best out of the bunch so congrats to him. He should get a new group to play with.
I am not sure if anyone else had a similar experience maybe it was just that round?

Yeah I was the one - was found on the floor and returned. Prob knocked or something in the close proximity of everyone...no shoe damage! lol I was so sick to my stomach because I spent $80 on the ML bits and did no thave any at home to make a new one.
Cool I am glad the system caught it. I did not even realize it until today when I looked at the scores and I readded the points again in a room with no one in it lol. I guess we can all be a little special at times lol. Just ask anyone I played when it came time to do a scatter template. It appears that every time I pick up a scatter dice and 2 D6 I instantly get stupid and can't subtract the result buy 4. I think it is how my bRain registers the dice as 2 numbers that I'm trying to subtract buy four but think what my bs skill is but get messed up because I hit on 3... Hey peoples. Like Kramer I am more of a lurker since getting into internet flame matches was a waste of my time, and so now I just read and troll the blogosphere. Also like Kramer I have to agree with his sentiment on one particular team and feel that something should be voiced. I was on the road all of yesterday and during our trip I was ranting and fuming over the same team, my game and what I saw there. I am glad someone else posted about this before me because it curbed my defamatory flame into a rant. At least two of the Jack Booted Thugs were quite honestly astonishingly poor sportsmen. I understand the tournament argument, and the win-at-all-costs ideology, but there was no reason for the manner in which they conducted themselves during gameplay.
I played their guard player, and I have to say, it was one of the worst games I have ever played. He allegedly pulled some rather shady moves during the game I played against him and I didn’t realize it until after the game was over and I was bemoaning my experience to my teammates. They were rules I should have called him on, but I thought I knew them fairly well, apparently I did not. Now I am a very easy going person, some people told me that they would have given me fours or fives if possible on sportsmanship, and I get along with pretty much anybody, but this kid just had no desire to have a fun game, and didn’t engage me in any other way except wanting to kick my army’s ass.
Their blood angel player introduced himself as “Ok, now who wants to lose?” That was followed by frequent attempts at asshattery (which was caught each time) on one our team members during play. Issues regarding targeting and shooting, cover and the like were so blatant in most cases that when the judge came over to investigate the claim, he simply looked at the situation and ruled in favor of fairness within a few seconds, as if the question itself was foolish. For things as simple as distance, cover saves and line of sight, a judge had to be called over to their table four times, each time ruling in our favor. The player was being slightly ridiculous. Not to mention almost all of his army was barely partially painted and most was not painted or even primed. I will however say that by the end of the game, the two players were fine with each-other, but the shenanigans had left a lasting impression.
The space wolves player, I heard, was trying some old school dice rolling method: “Rolling-a-two-behind-terrain-and-telling-you-the-result-was-a-six” with one of the guys I talked to and played earlier at the event, but he clearly saw the roll on a few occasions and called him out on it. My teammate didn’t have anything incredibly bad to say about him but I don’t think he cared either way to comment as he didn’t experience anything horrible first hand.
Now this is conjecture, but I have to disagree with Kramer’s opinion about their Ork-player. I have played in a few tournaments over the years. Mostly singles a few doubles and this one. In my early ones (back in third ed) there were some events that had time limits imposed upon a player turn. People didn’t generally bring a bunch of Tyranid, Ork boy, or I.G. models in excess of sixty or seventy because it would put you at a disadvantage time-wise. This Ork player had well over a hundred-and-fifty models in his army. Taking into consideration the company he keeps, and how three of his games went (hearing from two other players that had played him, and the one that was on my team) it is my belief that he built a denial army that was by its very design slow to play. It is important to note that I am not saying he deliberately played as a staller, but that the impression was that his list by its very makeup was built to do so. This is legal, but seems to me like a douchey thing to do even more so than anything Grey Knights. I know there were other Ork armies there but I don’t know their makeups or anyone who played them.
I played on the table next to him, and from frequently looking over at it, they barely moved along in their turns and never even made it past half of turn four. With a mob of thirty boys, unless you are dealing out twenty-one-plus instant death attacks or have a huge amount of flamers you are not able to kill those units. It just seems too obvious a tactic to me that all they would have to do is pit him against armies that could not physically stop a unit of ork boys in two turns, and the players would then never get very far in a game for it to be a themed above the board list. Against our player, he took twenty-five minutes to deploy for a two and change hour game. Was he a nice guy? Sure, but it’s easy to be nice when you are winning every game because there aren’t enough turns to kill your models and you can easily dismiss any accusations by just pointing to the size of your army. He conducted himself rather well, and we’ll see how this pans out in sixth. I think turn limits would be a great thing to add to this kind of event considering what I witnessed and heard of.
As a side note, I think that prize support should have gone to the overall winner brackets and not to best-of-round wins (or as well as). I have never been to a tournament that the top two or three players or teams didn’t get some form of prize support in models, gift certs or cash. The message I took away here is that if your team trounces their opponents in every game getting an amazing amount of wins then they deserve more than the overall winners of a two day event. I am not sure (other than the skulls) what the BoLS team got, but 2nd through 5th received counters that everyone got a version of simply by showing up to the event. So I essentially paid $8 per counter, and we had to place in the top five to even get that.
In summation, I played a few good players, one really great one, and one person who should stop doing anything involving other human beings. I had a good time, even though it was exhausting, and our team placed, so I am happy with the event overall. It would have made it worth our while though would there have been some prize support for the actual winners as well, considering the amount the event must have cost, and what it cost for us to participate. I appreciate all the hard work done by the organizers, and I really do think that with an event as large as this, and with the amount of logistics involved in scoring between players and teams, that it was run rather smoothly. Thanks guys and gals for all the time and effort.

With regards to the prize support, I am going to have to throw in with Clan Company Captain.
While it was awesome to receive a Battleforce for being the Round Champions, I felt a little cheesy seeing the placing teams walking away with counters of some sort.
If anything, I would probably be willing to pay a little more for the event if it means more parity when it comes to Prize Support.

Hey guys, just touching base every few comments or so here...
The sports issues are being or have been dealt with and we strive hard to make sure that history does not repeat itself in these situations. Be careful to not let one or two players form your view of an entire group though please. Especially in an event where its several on a team. I know that many of the teams had players that barely knew each other before the event.
As far as prizes go, we honestly thought that at least the top 3 teams would have been teams that finished best overall at least one round during the event...but much to our surprise after rd 6 we were wrong...
In the future we will make sure there are at trophies and/or prize support guaranteed for the top 3-5 teams.
But if those trophies and the title of "Best Team in America" isnt enough of a prize, is adding a Battleforce going to really be the thing to make it "worth it"?
24514
Post by: Unholy_Martyr
I don't really think a Battle Force would be Worth it so a valid point there.
Also, another Valid point on the battle force comment. Would I be mistaken in thinking that none of the top 5 teams received Round Champions after all?

I think that they meant 2nd through 5th place only getting tokens instead of battleforces (provided they didn't win a round), while some teams did poorly but won a round and walked away with a battleforce.

Post by: Unholy_Martyr
Looking at the spirit they were going in for the Champions, had a team really gone balls to the wall, you'd expect the top performing team to walk away with at least 2 Battle Boxes to come out on top.

Yeah it was crazy, we really thought that the top teams would win at least a round. But only Chicago Jack Booted Thugs walked away with battleforces. All the other teams that won rounds finished like 7th place or lower. Crazy LOL

Goatboy from Wrecking BOLS here - as usual this was a great event. I had a lot of fun and we were lucky enough to get the win in the end. We got beaten up a lot in some of our match ups.
I was just happy to come home with a Skull. I know a Battleforce would have been nice but do I really need another one? I think spreading out the prizes is the best thing to come to events lately as everyone walks away feeling like they got something.
Shane I had a great weekend and look forward to what 6th brings to this event next year. A big thanks to Paul for putting me up and driving my stanky ass to the event. A big 80's high five to Casey for helping us win. Rob and Kenny were also great as well.
I was happy to hang out with people I don't get to see all the time and meet a bunch of other players. It's the chance to meet up with people that really makes these events for me.
Thanks again Shane and hope to see you next year so our team gets a chance to 3 peat.
(And truthfully I just wanted that skull trophy more then anything else heh - it goes with my Shield from last year and the big metal Hammer from Adepticon a few years ago).

year one we handed out prizes based on top players and this time we didnt which was a mistake on our part thinking they would be the top players anyway. Next time we have decided to go a different route which is the best of both worlds. We will do trophies as before and also Battle Force to each team member in the top three teams. each round we will also do the medium sized GW boxes (terminators, command barges, etc...) for the top scoring teams each round. So each team member each round that is from the top scoring team will choose from them.
I apologize for any issues that may have come up during the event. We are working on fixing any of these for the next and future events.
please feel free to send any concerns and or suggestions to improve the event to either shane or i.

Automatically Appended Next Post: The tokens werent meant to be a prize per se. The Battleforces and trophies along with saying your the top team was the real prize. We just made the mistake of thinking the top teams would win rounds to get prizes but as stated above it will no longer be the way we do it.

Kenny here from wrekingBOLS
It was an awesome event, i enjoyed all my games and had a blast. seems like a strength of schedule mechanic would be awesome! We played some some great teams!
Blade N Bolter(my personal friend Aldonis and his club mates)
Codex Toledo (Greg Sparks , and our friendly rivals from Toledo)
Quality Control(Never met these guys but ...damn a serious match up)
Chicago Hot dogs(Allan Pajama pants and most of the kamikazes)
I really wish we got to play the "thugs" lolz
Great Opponents all weekend!

One game for vengance completed and there is one left to claim. Thats you Kenny.....
The Chicago Hotdogs had a great time down in Tenn for the big ATC. I definatly enjoy seeing friends from all over and getting in some great games in against the best of the best.
Teams we played where:
Front Armor 15
19th Company
BOLS Wrecking Crew
Blade and Bolter
Tony Kopach's Team (Not the correct name)
General's Staff
Reccomendation for next year:
1) Have team battle points score printed on the round parings each round. This way we all know where we stand.
2) I like the idea for prize support already voiced it was what I was going to reccommend.
3) I would like to see a 10 Codex Max next year with no duplicates of any kind. This would be interesting! So you have to decide what Codex's are main army picks and what codexes are just for Allies.
4) I would steer away from the raw Battle Point System: I like the ETC round winner system better. You could make it be 1 Pts for a team Win and 2 Points for a big team win so slaugther's are still rewarded but not as much. I think this would lead to better team dinamics and more tactical approaches. Otherwise I think the event just favors the team that obliterates everyone each match and it seems that is not the approach you guys want to take.
5) Great improvements and awesome trophies this year! I am looking forword to the third ATC event.
Thanks,
Alan Pajama Pants Bajramovic

am I the only one who thinks 9a-9p instead of 7-7 would have been better?

7-7 gets you out in time to find a restaurant, eat and sleep at a reasonable hour in my opinion but I have to say, 4 games a day is grueling either way.

I recognize the desire to get out early on sunday, but why not split the games 3-3
Personally, I'd rather get home a little later than be constantly rushing.
No complaints though. The ATC was awesome. I'll be back.

I'm down with splitting games to 3-3 as long as the venue allows it...they may have had to wrap up early due to the mall closing early.

To the guys that had a bad experience. I am really sorry you had those. The major thing we all have to remember is that there was 160 players there for the tournament. Of those 160 players it sounds like only a small handful of people had problems with someone. To me that is a huge success! I understand that you might have left with a bitter taste in your mouth over a few incidents, but please don't think the entire tournament was like that as most people had a lot of fun with their opponents.
As far as the Ork player that got 175/180 points - no matter how you look at it thats HUGE, and stalling does not seem like a tatic that would net him that many points...meaning he won KP's, got squads to the other side of the board to contest the base, and took the 3 objs, or contested 2 and held his. A lot of times people are often put into a cateogory with the company they keep, but that person may not be like the company at all. Another thing to consider is that he or their team may not be best buddies or what not. My team knew each other but we were not really good friends per say...as we don't hang out or anything and we are each our own player not like minded.
Again I am sorry that some people had bad results with their opponents, but don't throw the tournament under the bus because of that, and please don't automaticly assume that someone is like their "team" just because he is on said team esp when no one has anything bad to say about the player. I understand the frustration, but let the man enjoy his win because he almost played a perfect tournament and I feel like he deserves the trophy no matter the accusations based on his teammates.
The TO's and judges great job and I am looking forward to next year.

.
This is absolutely true. I only had issues with 1 out of the 5 people I played. And 2 of my games, against Andrew Oneal from Sons of Vulcan and Marc Parker of Wrecking Crew were absolutely fantastic, so its a good trade off.
Something to keep in mind, a lot of people come to GTs with unrealistic expectations, and as soon as something goes slightly wrong game 1, they feel the whole weekend has been ruined.

Being a fellow Horde Ork player two years in a row at ATC, I can tell you that the ability and opportunity to slow play is there. I finished all of my games by turn 4 or 5 this year, and had no complaints that I know of; I had 193 models this year on the table.
Horde Ork is arguably a great army to use in the ATC format in the 5th. Especially with all the objectives, low KP and attrition. So it's not always a slow playing team tactic. I've been slow played by IG more than anything else, and it was not in the strategy to do that ever for our team.
Last year I had a really great time despite the amenities issues. I also had a great time despite a WAAC Internet Famous personality that I played the first round, and another 'modeling for advantage' player another round.
I now take pictures of where the objectives are at the beginning of the round, and I take pictures before 'game changing' situations are about to occur. This keeps everyone honest, even if they are already.
I also discuss my intentions with my opponent (and ask them theirs) at key times to help them insure they achieve what it is they think they can achieve, either through movement or shooting or assault. This helps in so many ways, one of which there's no (what I call) indecisive-Movement-gain. Another is the assumption of assault order of operations and capabilities. This conversation lets my opponent know that I'm ok with them winning, and/or capitalizing on any of my errors that they might be able to take advantage. I don't hand it to them, but if I ask, "So, what are you thinking tactically right now?" every time they have honestly answered, and that facilitates a great damn game, every time.
I also will never again, not call a judge over. From that point on I learned to scream "shenanigans", for any hint of shoddy cheating, whether intentional or not. And I'm talking about the guys who should know better, not the guys who obviously don't know the core game mechanics that truly come out to just talk and roll dice. I came much more prepared for crap players with a reason to impress their friends with winnings.
This year however, every single player I had the luxury of being paired against was a great sport, and competitive at the same time; I know, a shocker!
The event location, amenities, and terrain were all outstanding. It's an event everyone should get the chance to attend.
We wanted to win the Battleforces but missed out. We chose the wrong round to be good, ha! I understand the oddness of none of the top ranking teams getting the option for some loot, but if any of you skull winners wants to trade it for a Battleforce just let me know, I'll throw in and extra just for good measure.
