Well, I guess now's a good time to get the ball rolling on an Issue...
I've included a poll although I guess the sensible place to start would be with Issue 1 - however articles can be changed/added and the cover can be re-done. Here's the recruiting poster (I assure you she's royalty free) - I've set up the email and will be tinkering with a website or blogger over the coming days:
Here's the editorial positions currently available - it's a rough draft so anyone is welcome to suggest an Editor or Sub-Editor position...(xeno or chaos specialists etc).
At this stage it's first come-first serve, so either post in the thread or PM/email me with your desired position (oh, Matron!).
Editor-In-Chief – warspawned (sorry – I had to )
Editorial Staff
Submissions Editors - warspawned, x ?
Background Overseers - forruner_mercy, Azure, x?
Xeno Editor - x?
Dark Eldar Sub Editor - forruner_mercy
Necron Sub-Editor - Azure

Tau Sub Editor and Tank/Walker Fetishist - Soo’Vah’Cha
Agony Ork/Ork Kontributa - KingCracker
Chaos Editor - iproxtaco (pending)
Slaanesh-y Sub Editor - EvilTim
Astartes Editor - Bloodfrenzy187
Letters Editor - x
Gear Editor - TheNewMexicanGeneral (TNMG)
Comics Editor - x
Fiction Editor - DeathReaper
Interviews Editor - x
Wildlife Korispondant - Malroke
Survival Correspondent - Capitansolstice
(Apologies if I missed anyone who's posted a specific interest already - will update accordingly).
Artists – Whoever does a piece of art – whoever we get permission from etc
Contributors - Whoever gets an article 'published' will be put here
Not to mention the fictional correspondent’s etc…
If you'd like to be involved - you can either PM material to me or else email DEAR.PLAYADEPT@gmail.com Be sure to make the subject clear - if you're submitting please state the article title and the editorial section it would go under - for example: Boom Sticks! - An Underhiver's Guide to Improvised Firearms (Weapons & Tech). Remember to include your Dakka username.
I'm currently looking for articles and in-universe Interviews - along the lines of those on the covers. Articles should be no more than 1,500 words, must come with a TITLE and SUB-TITLE - simply use the examples on the covers as a blueprint. Have fun and let your imagination go wild - remember we're looking for in-universe, satirical fiction - so not too serious but not OTT ridiculous either.
Also if any budding artists are reading this - please get in touch or post your work in this thread. We're looking for provocative 40k images for the discerning adept - not porn!
We'll be doing a fiction section - so if you have a short story/piece, please post it in the fiction section and PM me and/or DeathReaper the link.
We'll also need some cartoonists - so any 40k style cartoons would be most welcome.
I'm sure there's a lot more - but for now this'll do. Thanks again for the interest - let's see what happens over the coming weeks
Original post:
Spoiler:
Hi all, I got bored and having discovered Microsoft Publisher on my computer and Gimp decided to do this:
Issue 1 Cover:
I tend to do random things when I get bored, what does the rest of Dakka do when they're bored? (no obscenities please)
Seriously, you should definitely do more! Dakka may frown on some of the fruitier content though I guess if you did a ridiculuously huge spoiler around it you should around the problem.

Dear Play Adept
I never thought this would happen to me but my drop pod was misprogrammed and instead of landing in the Black Citadel of Lord Barbaricus I landed right in the courtyard of the Sacred Convent for the Correction of Wayward Young Ladies. So I jumped out in my armor, my hot bolter clutched both my fists its barrel ready to spill its load on a second's notice when suddenly all these girls in diaphanous white gowns began running towards me... I guess a whole magazine would be one hell of a creative exercise. Funnily enough I've never bought or read a Playboy - I guess it's an excuse to do some "research" anyway. Let's face it I used to get White Dwarf every month, maybe its time to switch magazines
There's so much good 40k fan art out there, I was looking at random stuff for my rules project and have been stunned by the quality and variety of style's. If nothing else I'll do a few more covers, it's just finding cover images that aren't too lewd, but lewd enough
Me boyz an Iz been readin yer pikture book for along time now. Iz mostly readz it fur da artikals, da boyz......not so much. N E wayz, I got ta wunderin, why all da weedy gitz on da front cuva? Don't start yet! Remember folks....Safety First.
I recommend contacting GW before you get way too deep in. Would just break my heart if you fully completed this masterpiece of Nerdy Nudeness, only to have a sheriff show up at your door and hand you a court summons so that GW's Lawyers can proceed to shove Codex: Suing-you-into-oblivion down your throat.
Just thought I should be the voice of reason in this haze of awesome-fog. But...I know we all eagerly await the first edition
Oh! In the story Gunheads, there is a part that references a porno magazine with what it describes as "hard faced Cadian women stripping out of military uniforms". Might be of some use to know that.

No waiting needed, if they throw a fit we shall make it an underground publication, they will not be able to stop us!
If you need someone to do some writing, I aspire to be a creative type.
H.B.M.C. wrote:I hope the next issue has a safe guide to Power-Fisting.
LOL - consider it done
I don't think GW will be too concerned - if anything they should approach us and buy the idea so they can replace the waste of paper that is White Dwarf with something worthwhile
Images, and a lack of cash to obtain them, will be the main problem - oh for a big lottery win
If only one had the money and access to their IP - I think a true fictional publication (cosplay photoshoots and all) would be immense and (as far as I'm aware) groudbreaking - I know I'd buy it over WD anyway
In the mean time I've been looking for a lot of cosplay stuff and found this piece of epic win:
I'll update my first post/the thread in due course, with a recruitment poster, and the various editorial positions up for grabs - I see no reason why we shouldn't have a go to get at least 1 issue made
I thought it might be cool to have an underlying story line with the Inquisition pursuing the producers of this licentious & heretical material, I've already got some ideas for regular features and look forward to any and all contributions
Basically it'll follow the Playboy format - not too difficult really...
I'll set up a dedicated email address and start a wordpress site or something when I can
Thanks for all the feedback and interest guys - it means a lot to me
One question: is this going to be a semi-serious attempt at creating an in-universe magazine, or is it going to be something Kid Kyoto would find funny?
AlexHolker wrote:One question: is this going
to be a semi-serious attempt at creating an in-universe magazine, or is it going to be something Kid Kyoto would find funny?
If it's the former, I'll contribute.
I'd say semi-serious - the actual content is obviously a satirical look at 40k - but would be feasible enough as well - just imagine a very disgruntled, knowledgable staff - ex-guard, perhaps ex-adepts - who knows, perhaps it's even funded by a chaos aligned Governor or the like - it'll be fun to work out a fictional backstory for the editorial staff and drop hints of it within the publication.
I think the general point is that humans are human, even in 40k, and even under the harsh rule of the Imperium. So there's still going to be (and is) political corruption, pornography, general interest in the forbidden (which in the Imperium is a lot of stuff) - so where there's demand there's always going to be supply. Which is where we come in
It's clearly a heretical publication - thus the Heresy stamp on the cover. I had some idea that the producers would be like pirate radio - perhaps travelling around on a space hulk? If you look at the years on the covers you'll notice a significant gap between some of them, several years at least. It would take a long time to get articles together, given the distance between systems and with an Inquisitorial pursuit to boot, not to mention some of the reporters who would get killed. I imagine a lot of subterfuge and con-artists - posing for the local propoganda machine to get interviews with the higher ups of the guard etc...
It's hard to figure out exactly what it'll look like - obviously lots of ads and propoganda and the like - but also lots of odd articles - I like the idea of some Bloodaxe Ork discovering a copy and then writing in and the publishers going "Why not?"
I'm still working on some particulars but all ideas are welcome at this stage.
@marauder6272 - That's not heretical - it's content!
Here are some column ideas for the 'zine :
- Ork article (written the ork way of course!)
- babe of the month (some sexy fan art -dark eldar, sister of battle, whatever- with maybe an interview?)
- "matt ward"-esque fan fictions
- real news turned into w40k news by changing some words (like, some president -> chapter master or something)
There are probably tons of silly stuff we can find
Warpspawned you are a genius. I'd love to be able to contribute to this in some way but im neither witty nor talented in the drawing department. Need a proof reader by chance?? Oh how about a food review type thing?

Gotta ask you. Id love to do some gear stuff for you but if I do id prefer to do it from the Orky point of view. I allready have a title for the segment just need to know if its cool then will start a article up.
Add in those goofy full page ads.
ie 1)turn those stupid almish heaters to almish heat gun made from shabby wood
2) Crazy Calgar's Used Rhinos
3) Instead of the safes with coins: safes with ork teeth
4) New nid slurpie at the Hive11 but same bio mass flavour
5) Goofy mail order gadget page like in the back of old comics
Build your own hovercraft! Plans by Adeptus no wonder it never worked they didnt even know. Make your own tesla coil by necro maybe illeagel in most sectors. Have fun with the eldar( empty box) "Karma sutra, a DE way of life." Faces of the Galaxy: Today Im with the iinfamous Khorne. Khorne just how much fun can you have with liquids? Khorne: "Well Jim let me just show ya!"
You know I'm pretty sure no matter what species is on the cover the Emp has already looked in on it while on his golden throne. The guy is the biggest pervert in the Imperium. How else do you think he didn't see the heresy coming, He was to busy lookin in on the Dark Eldar pleasure rooms. Now he'll finally have some worth while bathroom reading.

Lol Man, this stuff is gonna be so bad the IoM would have to mind-wipe whole sectors!
"Lord Protector, ever since this new magazine "The Playadept" came to our planet we have a mass shortage of hand lotion. What shall we do?" (random office flunky)
"Go away I'm busy and get me some more lotion from my personal stock!" (Lord protector through the bathroom door)
I thought I'd take a moment to describe how I see submissions/editorial positions working: When I get a submission I'll forward it (either by email or PM) to the relevant editor for appraisal (although at this stage we'll most likely publish anything that isn't cringe-worthingly "terribad" - just to get up and running) - we'll chat and most likely 'print' said article or else work on it with the original author until all parties feel it's 'right'. Of course, before I post up the edition for download I'll post it to all Editors first - for comments and if anything is glaringly bad, so that it may be changed. I also thought a deadline might be of use (although this is at a much later stage - we don't even have an article yet )
We welcome articles from any races perspective - so if you have an article or even a humble letter (please keep Letters to no more than about 500 words), be it from a Necron Art Critic or a Chaos Lord hell bent on domination with a penchant for "gentleman's" magazines and hobbies - please feel free to PM or email them to me.
Also:
Our new Fiction Editor, DeathReaper, feels 'Playadept' is a good title, but also feels it could stand out more and might be changed to better serve the magazine.
Personally I think it's a slice of pure win from the pizza of genius - but I would say that What about you dear reader's/contributor's - should we change Playadept's name? And if so, with what?
+++ANNOUNCEMENT MODE ENDS+++
I think you're all right about the page length ads - I've been working on a few (along with the usual Imperium-tinged Propoganda) but all ideas/concept sketches are welcome. I was also thinking of doing an Ad for Dakka, as a nod and self-aggrandising gesture to its pure awesomeness
I'm currently having trouble with the general layout of the magazine - its 'style' so to speak, although I think the Covers are spot on (if I get permission from the artists of course). It'll be fairly easy to duplicate Playboy - but it needs a 40k edge to it as well. I'll experiment and post some examples up - if anyone has any comments/suggestions please feel free to discuss them here.
Finally a word on quality - I'm not exactly a photoshop wizard - in fact I'm not even using it - so do you think such a publication would 'need' to be high quality, or do you think it should be relatively 'rough around the edges' as it's often published on the move, away from Inquisitorial pursuit? I have the time to put it all together so that's a positive, but it won't be pristine (until/if I get better at doing it).
Personally, I reckon from what I've seen so far the quality is fine.
I don't wanna take away from the feel or awesomeness of the mag but a teensy weensy suggestion that you can feel free to ignore as not being in the spirit of PlayAdept, but it always makes me a li'l sad when the 40k veterans talk about how players used to be able to get their army and their army's fluff featured in WD. What if the very last article of each addition was that, pics and background for someone's army?
As for style of mag. Layout follows:
Cover
Letter from Editor- Full Page
Issue specific table of contents- Partial page( For the rest of the break down FP=Full page PP=Partial page
News and rumours-PP ( Have 4 or 5 PP and FP Articles that are always in each issue for the most part, ie How to ______ or your gears stuff.
Issue specific Large feature- Multi Page 2 to 3
Every issue section 2-FP Issue specific small feature-FP Continue to alternate between Issue specific and Every issue articles.
Put the Ads and Propaganda sprinkled in randomly ( one to three ratio sounds about right)
You will need lots of Partial page stuff this will help fill in the cracks at the end.
Hope this helps

Well, that's not quite what I meant - I've got that covered - I meant more the general aesthetic style (what it looks like) rather than the content format. You are exactly right in your content summary though
The problem I'm having is to make it look 40k-ish, without making it too busy - or should we make it look like Playboy but with 40k content (as the project is as much a parody of Playboy as it is of 40k)
How about a battle report spoof in which a 40k character (that wed create) reports on 'fictional battles' that they play out, based on real world our earth news and wars. For instance "player x and player y have been at this game of Gaza strip for 2000 turns now, no ones quite sure how its happened...etc etc".

Yeah, why not? I think it'll be best as a side column thing entitled 'In Other Events' or the like. I think it'll best to keep it restricted to a little bit, rather than a main feature though
AlexHolker wrote:I've started work on an Escher centerfold. I'll let you know when it's finished.

Okay, I'd like to officially welcome KingCracker as our all Ork-Ork.
He'll be doing our Agony Ork column - so if you have any personal issues you want to lay down to our resident Ork, ask the questions here or PM either myself or KingCracker, to have them solved...well...sort of
For some reason Playadept sounds off to me. it does not seem to fit with the seedy nature of the material within.
Maybe we should try to come up with a different name.
like: Underhive (Or Underhive monthly, or Underhive quarterly, how mane editions we make in a year will determine this) or something.
Also there should be a section titled Archeotechtural digest, it could be the "Tech beat report for all the latest and greatest gadgets of the Imperium"
On the contrary, I like it ! Remember that this isn't p*rn in the 40k universe, it's an appreciation of various figures in the 40k universe, in the same vein as playboy is in our world. I wouldn't call that so much seedy as appreciative (I mean, it's not a XXX Hardcore ******* magazine or anything )
Playadept plays on the Playboy spin quite nicely, suitably 40k, suitable real world, whilst giving the reader a bit of an insight in to the contents just by the name (with the help of the front cover subject titles!)
I'd like to welcome TNMG (TheNewMexicanGeneral) as our Wargear Editor - so if you have any Wargear articles or things you'd like covered, either send it to the email address or PM him with the material
Also a big welcome to Soo’Vah’Cha - our Tau Editor with a penchant for all things mech - so if you have anything/suggestions for the greater good, either PM him or myself - or else post in thread as normal.
We now have a Wildlife Correspondent - Malroke, who also gets a big welcome, with his 'living-on-the-edge' Ork bringing us all sorts of beast and lethal forna from across known space. He has a rather long, incomprehensible Ork name - so we all just call him ''Steve''.
I've started formatting the issue and have started doing a few feature articles and am hoping to get some artwork permission soon - as that's a pretty essential part to this whole endeavor
The poll at this stage puts the Sister's Repentia as the 'issue' (or at least main feature) people would most like to see (could that have anything to do with the bare-breasted cover and talk of Mistresses he ponders?) - still I'll leave it until Monday morning and see where we're at (honestly I think they all deserve to be covered so it's almost a moot point).
I'll likely post some sample pages at some stage. It's looking like we're going with a 'real-world' format, only with all 40k content at this stage - honestly it's less of a headache for me and I think it has a certain charm to it. If 40k is all grim-dark, think of this as a source of 'attractive-light' (which is as close to the opposite interpretation of grimdark that I can get to)
Finally it seems we're lacking Imperial Editing positions - so if you fancy being an Astartes/Sororitas/Inquisition Editor feel free to PM me - I don't think we need Editors for individual chapters as yet though.
+++ANNOUNCEMENT MODE ENDS+++
Regarding the Title:
Well I think it's going to be about finding a balance between the familar (our world) and 40k. I think the blend of the two is good in one way, as you see 'Playadept' in the Playboy-esque font and you know what you're likely to get from it - and I think that's part of the fun/charm of it all - this is only a semi-serious attempt/experiment at the moment. I agree it is not 'all' 40k though.
I think Underhive (in relation to a "men's" magazine) is a bit too seedy (if not seedy then you just think plain dirty - at least I do anyway ) and too 40k (if this makes any sense?). I'm thinking 'Girls of the Underhive' would be a feature or regular thing though.
I agree about the tech aspect - but don't know if it would be a regular thing - as how often are new gadgets actually made in the Imperium? We're definitely having a 'Wargear' style section - and will definitely have pieces of Archeotech covered.
I hope none of this is too contradictory - but ultimately this is a humour piece with a very strong background for a base. I'd like to adhere to the background as close as possible, whilst making it fun and 'silly' enough to be worth reading for a bit of light-hearted comedy relief. If it's too serious or too silly then it's likely to fail - so think of grim foundations and frame work but with silly decor - like a catherdral with comic-glass stained windows, inflatable clown tombs and statues of scantily clad martyrs.
That's pretty much my thoughts on the title and the direction we'll be taking to start with.
The title is still open to debate though - suggest away folks and we'll see where it goes...
Well it's looking like the cover for the 'official' first issue will be Issue '3' - with the OH MISTRESS! feature - no sense in changing a good thing
I'll be making another announcement tomorrow where I'll outline what the issue will be including at this stage (to keep everyone up to speed as well as to highlight what's missing/vacant features/articles) and also announcing the latest additions to the team. I will probably post a snippet of the work I've done so far as well, just to inject some visual material into the thread.
Now I'm going to bed on my brand new memory foam mattress, where no doubt I'll dream about formatting and copying and pasting text boxes
AlexHolker wrote:Here's a bit of a teaser for the picture I'll be submitting. Any idea when you want the content for the first issue in by?
Really my only suggestion is to make the grip a bit thicker.
I suppose it's a good sign that your only suggestion is something I'd already planned to change, the sketchwork just doesn't show up very well in the lower resolution picture I posted.
Bloodfrenzy187 is our Astartes Editor, a burdensome title if there ever was one, and is busy preparing a Thunderhawk to drop us in another feature article.
Capitansolstice is our resident Survival Expert, he'll be busy dodging choppa's and surviving within a seedy Hive City.
Finally iproxtaco is our Chaos Editor (pending confirmation), he'll no doubt be busy feeding on your souls and opening up a warp storm near you shortly.
I thought I'd take the time to update you all on content, and see if we can hash out a close approximation of what this issue will involve/how long it's likely to be. Here's what it's looking like we'll get so far:
The year for the first issue is 996.M41 (or thereabouts) - so fairly late and the Imperium is well-into 'The Time of Ending'. The date can always be changed accordingly - it all depends if this is the only issue we do or not
The idea is to have an underlying hint of a story between the Magazine and the Imperium, fleshing out some of its reporters as we go.
Cover Story: Article on the Sisters Repentia - and what really goes on behind convent doors! (myself)
Feature 1: Article on Choppa's and why Ork's are the best (TheNewMexicanGeneral & no doubt KingCracker will have little bits to add)
Feature 2: Article on the biological creation of an Astartes, including interviews with the surgeons/marine initiate in question (Bloodfrenzy187)
Feature 3: Article on the notorious Sapphic Hive (myself)
Feature 4: ?
We have enough Orky content this issue, an Astartes feature, Repentia and a 'general' feature - so if any of our Editors has an article suggestion they'd like to take up with their chosen faction please PM me. If anyone else who reads this would like to write an article please do so - PM me with your idea and we'll work from there.
Anyone is welcome to submit an article - if you're not sure on what we're looking for simply use the titles/descriptions on the covers I've posted as guidlines.
These articles are (hopefully) going to be about 3-5 pages long each (with a single page devoted to the 'cover' piece of each). So this lot is anywhere between 15-25 pages long.
Regular Features
Vox Caster: Our double page news spread. Bloodfrenzy187 has already sent some latest Astartes information. We're looking for brief news snippets, no more than a few sentences, like a cross between a News Bulletin and the timeline events in a Codex book. I'm thinking about setting up a Twitter account for this feature, as it's almost perfect for it - who knows, maybe after this issue? For now I'd like to ask all Editors to maybe write two or three for their chosen race - so we get a nice even spread of galactic action! Also if you're reading this and fancy doing a few, please feel free to post them here under the introduction: 'This just in' or the the like.
Ask Gitcracka: KingCracker has filled out a few responses to some letters/questions I sent him. I'll be starting a new thread where you can ask him anything you like (within reason). It'll best be kept to 'in-universe' writing - I'll post actual guidelines in the thread once I set it up.
Letters: As this is the first issue, I'll be doing an editorial piece no doubt congratulating everybody in self-appreciating smug platitudes and will be doing a brief statement from our mysterious (no doubt powerful) Benefactor.
Pages from the Ratling Cookbook: This issue we bring you recipes for Grox Frontline Stew & Catachan Jungle Soup - Malroke (or rather "Steve Orkwin") will be adding a little piece about some of the ingredients of these two great dishes.
Entertainment Oddity: Our 'entertainment spotter'. This issue we receive an anonymous leak of a scripted musical - destined (by our reckoning) for greatness! (Azure Phaeron)
Adeptmate/s: This issue we have two anonymous Battle Sisters - exposing a bit too much (definitely NSFW Heresy!)
Girls of the Underhive: AlexHolker's no doubt epic Escher ganger, getting all cozy with a very big Bolter
Ads
I've got about 5-7 pages worth of ads. We need about 12-15 more. All ads will be full page and some perhaps serialised as 'filler' material. I've seen the suggestions so far in the thread and will be working on one or two of them. If anyone has an ad they'd like to make please do so and email it to me - if anyone has more sugestions for ads, please post the here. Here's an example of an Ad - a big thank you to Varakir over at Heresy-Online for producing this classic piece of 40k humour:
Spoiler:
Fiction: I'll be PMing DeathReaper about this - if you have a short story (anything between 3000-7000 words) please submit it to the email, or else PM the link to DeathReaper and/or myself. I think fiction is best left 'out of universe' (but obviously written in-universe ) - as we're unlikely to find a piece written from a 1st person perspective or from an imagined Imperial citizen publishing a Grisham-esque novel (or the like).
There's still room for Fashion (although it's not essential) and Soo'Vah'Cha will no doubt give us a piece on Tech for this issue.
For ads/regular features that's about 34 pages (not including the Fiction section) so it's likely to be 40+ pages by the end, maybe more if we come up with more regular features/material.
In total it's looking to be a respectible 60-70 pages worth of content. This would go up a lot more if we had more images of lovely ladies to use - but for now I'm satisfied with this outline for the test issue. If it's successful we'll see about getting commissions done - I'm sure there's more talented people lurking on Dakka who could help us out on this front.
As usual if anyone has anything to add/ask please post it here or PM me.

AlexHolker wrote:Here's a bit of a teaser for the picture I'll be submitting. Any idea when you want the content for the first issue in by?
As yet there is no deadline per se - it's slowly coming together and I'm doing as much formatting as possible, as and when I receive material. She's looking great though - can't wait to see the finished result! Would it be possible for you to submit a final version to me with a nice, clean, unobtrusive line down the middle - so I can spread her evenly? I'm working on a standard, full page, A4 format.
If you want more content I could do 'new tech reviews', imagine a veteran guardsman that's too wounded to fight but too valuable to drop, working with the mechanicum on new weaponry, then releasing snippets of information on them over a couple of pages per issue. Could do one offensive piece and one defensive piece per issue...?
Let me know if you think that's a go-er and I'll get to writing up some content
What about a semi-/regular piece on the Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, where people can send in their own homebrew chapters Index Astartes and have them featured over a couple of pages?
Just a thought, be interested to see what you think!

Okay a lot of people want more stuff on tech - I was thinking of keeping it to one article an issue, but as it's quite an important part of 40k we could widen that. I'd welcome anything I can stick in a column and attach it where needed - so 100-300 words. Rather than a veteran guardsman I think a tech-priest would be better (as anyone could get them talking about tech if they showed an interest) - and so long as the tech isn't too 'new' or radical - anything you (or others) come up with should be fine. I like the idea of offensive and defensive pieces - as I can place them opposite each other

We could, but again I'd like to restrict it to an odd short column or single page mini-feature here and there, rather than a full-blown Index Astartes article - we all want them back, but I don't think it's suitable for this project as it seems more 'hobby'. This would leave room for full Chapter features where perhaps we can get some ladies posing in faux astartes armour pieces (as marines will be unlikey to pose for a pict ) - should we obtain the art we'll need. It'll be quite easy to do and will help flesh out the magazine more and we could always do a similar thing for Imperial Guard Regiments etc...
I'm giving it the go ahead, we can have 2 this issue and if people could provide the chapter badges and/or a colour schematic that would be great. If you'd like to do this, PM me the material or, as ever, email it to DEAR.PLAYADEPT@gmail.com
Obsidian Raven wrote:What about adding a section for a sort of in-universe comedy single panel comic or comic strip or something similar?
Well we are looking for single page comic bits, single panels or comic strips - there's quite a few online I could throw in but I'm hoping someone, somewhere, somehow, submits new material - although the comics are often linked with articles that feature etc. The aren't a priority at this stage, but they are most welcome.

Oh man, can I put this in my sig? That was so win.
I'd like to welcome to Wim, over at WobblyModels http://wobblymodel.weebly.com/ as our in-house comics writer. If you haven't checked out his work, I strongly urge you do so. I've thrown Wim a few creative bones concerning the test-issue and personally look forward to seeing what comic-delights he comes up with. Thanks to forruner_mercy for pointing me to his direction
AlexHolker has sent me an update of our lovely centrefold and she's looking even sexier
Hopefully I'll have my two articles finished by the end of the day and am looking forward to seeing everyone's work - it shouldn't be too long before the test-issue is ready. I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions and suggestions so far. I'll be sure to send the rough-draft to any Editorial staff who'd like to critique it before 'publication'. So, dear Editors, PM me your email addresses or shoot me an email and if you like I can send you what I've currently worked on. It's still very rough but I see no reason why we can't, between us, critique as we go in order to get the best product as is possible at this stage.
I am pleased to accept the role as Writer for all things relating to Slaanesh; and hope to accurately shine a light on the Bliss in which my Lord and Saviour allows.
I await your instructions pertaining to my first articles.

I've had several of you express concerns over writing content - awaiting my command to do so. Although I find this all-powerful & flattering to my ego, it is quite unnecessary. I included the plan for the issue as I wanted to update you all on progress. However, it is not concrete - think of this issue as a brain-storming session. I welcome any ideas/articles - although at this stage all the main feature articles are spoken for. I feel it is necessary to have a 'cut-off' point for such features, otherwise the issue could end up being a silly length and I'd hate to exhaust all ideas for the sake of eagerness.
Although the restriction on main features may leave some of you with little/nothing to do - I hope you can understand that we can't possibly cover every race/faction within a single issue. If we go beyond this issue and do more I'd like to try and rotate editorial features - as well as keeping some regular columns/features ticking over. Again ANYONE can write for ANYTHING - any article written will be shared with the relevant editor - this includes any articles I write myself. This is very much a team effort and I'm trying hard to make sure no one who's interested in the project feels left out or ignored.
I intend to release the finished product to all Editors/contributors before it is published here - so everyone can have a say on the final product and what changes can be made for it or improved for later issues. I'd love to have all of us sit in a big board room, going through images and individual articles with an abundance of Scotch and Cigars available before visiting the nearest gentleman's establishment - but sadly this is an impossibility
This leads me to what I see as the purpose of this issue and what my thoughts are on possible future plans. If this issue is good enough that people would like more from it - that's great.
I still have concerns over art - as the project in its current PDF magazine form wouldn't be worth doing if we could not secure enough decent images. I'm thinking of fund-raisers if the Dakka (and rest of the 40k online) community wishes to see more to afford said commissions/a nice website etc.
If this doesn't materialise/there isn't enough interest - I'd be more than happy to start it as a blog (sharing the login details with any who would like to maintain the project) - where people could submit articles/artwork to it and perhaps we could put togther the odd issue from a collection of said articles/images.
I'm pleased to welcome Ancre - as our Tzeentch Editor and his most excellent idea of Tzeentchian themed Horoscopes
Also BloodReaper and I have come to an agreement regarding fiction. We would like either good, solid pieces of fan-fiction to include or else 'in-universe' writing, we'll accept short stories, poems, haiku's - pretty much anything that isn't a novella or more. So if you have anything or come across a piece you rather liked, please bring it to our attention
Finally the last article is going to be a Catachan Guide to killing Orks- including how to do so with your bare hands. If anyone reading this would like to write this article, let me know. Our comic guru, Wim, is doing a full comic bit for this feature and I'm quite excited for it.
Once again I'd like to thank everyone (including all you lurkers) for their interest/ideas/articles/input and hope we can deliver a good product soon - be it a one off creative piece, the start of a fan-blog or a new ezine for the Dakka community/anyone else to download.
Thanks for your time and if you need any help/guidance with an article or would like to suggest anything at all for the project, please PM me or post here
+++ ANNOUNCEMENT ENDS +++
Wow, that's a long post (apologies - I tend to ramble). I'm off for a cup of much needed Tea
Warspawned's got the finished version of my first pinup, and I've started work on a recruitment pic using the same character. I won't upstage the magazine by showing the centrefold early, but once it's released or my next one's finished, I'll see about getting ideas for future pieces (commissions would be nice, too ).
Namica wrote:Need Necron playadept.
I'm not Warspawned, but I don't think we do. Necrons, Space Marines and non-Genestealer Cult Tyranids seem out of place for this sort of magazine.
Thanks Alex, I haven't looked at her yet but I've no doubt as to her talents
In regards to Necron themes etc - I have some ideas but we'd mostly be sticking to feature articles on them. The magazine is starting to come together nicely - I'm visiting my brother for a day or two but will commence with the formatting when I return home. Hopefully it won't be too long before I send a draft to the editor's for their input/approval.
I think Astartes themes are possible - we just get ladies in pieces of mock power armour and holding chainswords in a suggestive manner etc
I think we can all agree the possibilities for content/themes are pretty endless. We'll get this issue finished and then we can start thinking of the next one, ways to improve etc. I'll try and contact lots of artists and get quotes for commissions - to see what a typical issue may cost
Now that I've thought about it a little more. A little page or two on necron ladies would actually be a decent idea. More as a joke really, like tongue in cheek "Look at the chasis on her!" sorta thing. It would work, especially considering the Necrons do trade with other races now.

Definitely something that has to be seen to be understood I think...!

Due to certain educational issues (finals) I haven't been able to write anything, but I'll try to write a few articles when I get free, maybe for the second issue. I'm thinking either journal entries from a PDF trooper or a letter from a former Dark Eldar captive.
Also, I'll try to contact some artists I know and see if I can get some nice pics for the next issues.

It appears that my computer was done over by the bad idea gremlins again, don't worry, I've taken a mallet to them since.
I would love to be a either a Chaos article writer or anything Chaos. So I need to submit something then I can or do you just assign the positions? There would be no better way to serve the dark gods then by filling the gap that is the lack of nudey mags in the universe.
I'm pretty busy IRL but if you want, when I can, I can do a "for the ladies" column. Like "how to wear your fatigues to best effect" and "how to keep a frontline man interested".
Cute. However, instead of having to look at some drawing and gawk, find an actual girl. Much better in reality and you actually get something out of it. Plus, its FREE.
I'm gonna have to go with the Howling Banshee, since I'm not into bondage, which the Dark Eldar, Daemonnettes, and maybe the Repentias are into. Still good work.
So, a question. Do you guys plan on doing a monthly issue, or what not? (I know you are still putting together a test issue, so only a rough idea would be nice to have).
Also, if more issues are going to go out, how do I subscribe? This gak is hilarious. Maybe a mass email PDF file to all subscribers upon release?
Yes, I'm back! Well I planned on having a weekend focusing on this but I got a random invitation to visit my Gin drinking Nan - she's getting on now and I hadn't seen her in a while. I lost terribly at Scrabble - the first game I only got about 6 vowels to use She lives quite a way away from me so the journey was quite epic (for us english folk anyway). My sister-in-law decided that on our way back this morning it would be a good idea to go to the Ikea in Tottenham - it was for about an hour or so until she went off on one at my brother and I for no real logical reason. They argued all the way back and her sarcasm, insults and general non-stop childish antics almost made me take off my seat belt and throw myself into an oncoming truck Luckily I had my iPod - so the argument was reduced into a noise in the background - I felt sorry for my brother (hope you don't mind me ranting about your personal life bruv but catharsis is needed ), but he's the one who married the crazy woman. We left at 10 this morning and I've only just got back - ordinarily the journey would have taken us 3-4 hours
It was good to see my Nan again but I don't ever want to get married based on the bull arguments I see all couples I know have/have had. Maybe it's me Like I give off an argumentation aura or something? It's not all bad - Wayland finally have got the stock in (when I ordered everything was "stocked") and have dispatched the few bits I need to polish off a 2nd Ed Daemon World army
Sorry all - not really an announcement, more of a purging rant - maybe I should re-word it and send it to Gitcracka?
Anyway I'm back now and will be finishing off some articles and working on those that have so far been sent to me (though not tonight).
I will be taking some of the suggestions made in the thread onboard and will sneak in a credit to the originator within the final publication

Yes I did - thanks Along with the others that should be enough for a page or two of Gitcracka's Letters.

I'd like to do a monthly issue, but the that would depend on how many people write and if I can get a regular supply of commissions for art. I think it will still exist in Blog format if all else fails. I could always set up an email address for subscribers and then send the finished PDF publication in bulk - which would probably be best. Thanks for the interest and support
runmymouth wrote:I think its the teeth you have a problem with.
Well... 40k did start in England didn't it...?
JUST KIDDING!
No need to kid - you speak the truth!
Nice work Alex All she's missing is a baton
I'll post an update on the status of the issue shortly, I'm still polishing up some articles but seem to get interrupted all the time by family (curse them!) & my models arrived so I got a little distracted by model-build syndrome last night. Today's looking like it's mostly occupied already
I've added the suggested chest tattoo, and I think I've fixed the smile. Just going back to the full size picture helped, and I've changed the teeth a bit so that the slightly open mouth doesn't give her a gaptoothed look.
I'm going to leave the stun baton out of this one since I can't think of a good way to include it. Things like bolters and commissar's caps work well for the sort of modest nudity I've painted so far. A stun baton seems to ask for something cruder.
ETA: While I've still got other projects to work on, I'm open to suggestions from Warspawned or anyone else for the next of these pinups. PM me if there's something you'd like to see.
Believe it or not, it's the former. All of the props are meant to look like they're there for a reason, and it would be difficult to have her doing anything with the stun baton other than just holding it without completely redoing the pose (or starting a new picture).
CadianCommander wrote:PlayAdept still going ahead? Been a while with no updates.
I think so. Warspawned is probably still waiting for people to get stuff in (including me I am sorry to say; just have not had the time), and he might not have as much time as he would like.
I've tried to contact Warspawned with no success, and it looks like he hasn't been active on DakkaDakka for over a month. For this reason, I've decided to post the centrefold I painted for the first issue rather than just sitting on it for the indefinite future. Enjoy!
I'm afraid this a rather sour announcement. As some of you no doubt know I haven't been on here for a while (though I didn't think it was THAT long) - and I thought it was time to explain why this project has epically stalled in the manner it has.
I would ramble on but I'll get to the point - I haven't been at all well in the last few months or so (well probably the last few years TBH) and have been diagnosed with severe depression. In short I have felt little to no enthusiasm for anything for quite a while and am trying to focus on getting my health back. I would have announced this sooner, but I wanted to give myself time to see how things went...and they haven't gone well
I've been considering my life in general and think I need a break from the hobby (although I'll still paint the odd miniature here and there probably) - if only to try and decide (much less act) what I ought to be doing with it - so you can expect a bunch of bargains on Ebay soon
So if anyone would like to take this project forward, they are more than welcome to do so - I'll happily forward all the articles/passwords etc and offer my sevices such as they are, but I'm afraid my initial enthusiam has dropped away significantly to the point where it's almost non-existant and I struggle to do everyday things.
I still think this project has a lot of potential but I'm afraid I'm in no position to be the one who brings it to fruition and if I tried it would be an empty, 'fake' effort - at this present stage anyway. I'd like to thank and send my humblest apologies to all those who have put input (and their time) into the project - I hope it has not all been a vain waste
Who knows? After some drugs and, most likely, extensive therapy I may be able to come back with genuine enthusiasm and a bunch of articles...stranger things happen...like Diablo 3 might be released before the world ends this december
So if any of you would like to take the project forward PM me to let me know so I can send you all the relative data/offer any advice - I'll no doubt be around over the coming days in order to plug my Feebay wares to the Dakka community.
Thanks again, I cannot apologise enough to all those interested in the project - I hope you can understand my reasons.
