The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2011/12/15 07:04:41

Post by: prime12357

Hey guys,

A few friends and I have decided to pick up Inquisitor and start a campaign, and I've been "volunteered" to GM. As such, I've got a whole bunch of models to convert, scenarios to plan, and fluff to write. I figured that starting a blog would help keep me motivated, and can be used as a campaign resource, too. I'll be posting fluff here, WIP pics, finished models, and whatever else drifts across my workstation. I've found this process to be interesting so far, and figured some of you guys might like to see it too. I don't want to throw down a wall of text right off the bat, but it seems that I must. Wo without further ado, a wall of (fluffy) text.

The Planet of Haemos
Spoiler:

+++Begin Transmission+++
CLASSIFICATION: DEEP PURPLE
DATE: 343.978.M41
AUTHOR: Curator James Rikard
RECIPIANT: Lord Valo Haksos, High Inquisitor, Ordo Malleus
TRANSMITTED: +++RESTRICTED+++
>FORWARDED: +++RESTRICTED
RECEIVED: Astropath Nortana Greene
SUBJECT: Planetary History, Haemos

Lord,
As requested, I have compiled a brief history of the planet in question, Haemos. The majority of the material that I have compiled has been taken from reputable sources, though some of the pieces and blank spots have been filled in by hear-say, or even my own speculation. I fear that a certain amount of my flair has snuck its way into the writing, though I do not believe that any information here has been compromised, despite any subjectivity in the writing.
Your loyal servant,
James

Haemos should have been dead, killed when its core solidified. The planet’s robust magnetic field and high gravity had protected a verdant biosphere, a thick atmosphere, and shallow liquid oceans. Despite its mineral rich composition, the temperatures below the depths of the planet had rendered all attempts at exploiting the bones of Haemos futile. Instead, the few inhabitants cultivated enough crops to get by. Though the flow of wealth was small, it was consistent. Gradually, the population of Haemos grew. Those already in residence found the land fertile, and began to populate it themselves. As more and more of the surface was turned to agriculture, a steady trickle of new settlers flowed onto the planet to farm.

As Haemos began to die, its magnetic field dissipated. The loss of its natural shield allowed the full strength of its star to blast the world. The shallow oceans all soon turned to steam or seeped into the ground. The flora that had sustained the Haemians soon only existed in greenhouses. The cooling of the core would have killed most other worlds, but it brought Haemos life. The mineral-rich crust and mantle had cooled sufficiently to allow for massive mining operations to take place under the watchful eye of the Adeptus Mechanius. The planet’s crust and mantle contain massive ore loads of adamantite, ferrosite, and the planet’s namesake, haemosine. The tunnel mining complexes began centered around the largest colonial and farming settlements, but soon their tendrils pushed all through out the planet’s crust. It is said that one can circumnavigate Haemos without ever setting foot on her surface.

The settlements that housed the most profitable mines grew steadily into five vast hive cities. Elibe is the largest on Haemos, as well as the oldest. Located in the northern hemisphere, Elibe acts as the seat of planetary power on Haemos. Due to its age, most of the main ore lodes around Elibe have been stripped of their minerals, leaving a vast network of uninhabited tunnels beneath the main hive. These tunnels offer refuge to all manner of undesirables, from underhive gangs to chaos cults. The economy of Elibe Hive is based almost entirely upon trade. The top of the spire penetrates the thin atmosphere of Haemos, allowing trade ships to dock with the spire to haul off the goods produced on Haemos, as well as sell materials to the planet below. In recent centuries, more and more ships have been manufactured in the dry docks of Elibe Spire, the Saint’s Revenge class ship-of-the-line being the most notable.

Hive Tellius is Elibe’s sister spire, separated approximately two hundred and fifty kilometers from one another. Tellius arose several centuries after Elibe when an especially rich vein of the planet’s famous haemosine was discovered. The probing threads of the mines sunk deep into the planetary crust, chasing the valuable ore. The deeper the mines got, more wealth was pulled out of the ground, sending the newly formed Tellius Hive into the sky. The tunnels dug deeper and deeper into Haemos, deeper than any other shafts had been sunk. Many of the miners broke into a previously undiscovered natural cavern system that contained +++++records expunged++++ Those miners that came up out of the shafts were broken mentally, suffering to a hiver from some form of dementia, some completely lost their minds, others developed severe paranoid and homicidal tenancies. Most of the exposed miners were tracked down and culled, but many escaped their fate, hiding in the many tunnels below Tellius. The deepest shafts have since been sealed behind tens of meters of ferrocrete and plasteel. Currently, no one dares venture down into the depths of the mine, for it is the realm of creatures best left undisturbed. In over seven hundred standard years, no one who has ventured into the depths has returned alive.

Though Elibe is Haemos’ most prosperous hive, as well as the planetary capital, Spire Jugdral attracts its own attention. Jugdral plays home to the glorious Emperor’s own Stone Gorgons. Founded from the Iron Hands, the Iron Gorgons began life as a punitive force to cleanse the remnants of a genestealer cult from the abandoned mine workings beneath Hive Jugdral in late M37. After the events of the Tellius incident, as well as the ever-increasing importance of Haemos, it was decided that a chapter of space marines be raised in order to better defend the planet from the forces that may wish to see it wounded. The Iron Hands, whilst usually quite jealous of their geneseed, offered to raise the required resources to garrison Haemos. Soon after, the battle cruiser Heaven’s Fist and her escort squadron departed to Haemos, carrying a small delegation of Iron Hands, including Epistolary Caarn, Ironfather Ghorza, ten veteran battle-brothers, and their leader, the venerable brother Zaeran. The Iron Gorgons have differentiated itself from its parent chapter, adopting a slightly more orthodox organizational structure that is more in line with the Codex Astartes, but still maintains cordial relations with the Iron Hands as well as with the tech priests of Mars.

The Iron Gorgons are dispersed throughout the Haemian sector, each small group of marines acting independently of each other into order to keep the sector secure. Due to the cramped nature of the tunnels that most of the Iron Gorgons grew up in and continue to fight and train in, the chapter has developed an affinity for bloody, close range firefights and melees, favoring fast-moving unmounted troops and dreadnoughts to armor. Flamers and melta’s remain consummate flamers within the chapter for their utility in clearing tunnels. Due to their particular specialization, the Iron Gorgons have found themselves effectively deployed into ship-to-ship boarding actions, a specialization that has become part of the chapter’s reputation.

Hive Barensia is located deep in the polar chem-wastes of Haemos’ southern hemisphere. Carved into a lonely mountain that towers above a continent-sized swamp of toxic effluvia, Barensia is only accessible via the massive transit airships that conduct most of the inter-planetary trade on Haemos. The extreme isolation of the spire is not a hindrance to its purpose, for Barensia is an adeptus mechanicus research facility, the largest in the sector. Thousands upon thousands of magi study the various ores of the planet, the topology of its solidified core, and the various chemical wastes that pool at their doorstep. The vast chem-wastes that surround the spire are used as a weapons proving ground, founded on the principle that if an artillery piece can fire in a rarefied atmosphere of poisonous, corrosive, radioactive waste, it can fire anywhere. However, many of the magi descend into the depths of the planet, studying the vast archives of tainted artifacts and xenotech held in stasis vaults in the crust of the planet. These items are held deep in the mantle of Haemos in modified natural caverns that are reminiscent of the accounts of those beneath Hive Tellius. The facility is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the sector, and the vault is considered one of the most secure storage facilities this side of Sol. And yet, one will hear of strange occurrences in Hive Barensia, or hear of artifacts appearing in the sector that seem suspiciously similar to many that the vault records list as “lost” or “destroyed…”

WIP STUFF

A mutie bodyguard/hunter for the "evil" warband of Saint Petyr. "Pens" features some of the first real GS work that I've attempted, sporting a fancy hat and scarf combo.

A shot of his lasgun with a folding stock.

Next, a plague doctor for a herectus warband, converted from a reaper miniature.

I liked the model so much that I couldn't bring myself to hack it up, so I just added a backpack

I'm very open to any suggestion on the models, and would love to hear any comments or criticisms.
Hopefully, I'll be able to update again this weekend.

I love it when I wake up to find a new Necromunda or Inquisitor painting blogs on Dakka

The plague doctor looks just creepy enough to be a member of a hereticus warband.

Pens look cool, like the shield on his thigh.

Good luck mastering the green stuff.

Peter

Thanks a lot, Peter. I've been a big fan of all your work, so the comments are really appreciated

I just got a bitz order in the mail today, so I think I'm going to start work on a truescaled CSM for the campaign. The question, though is Deathguard or Night Lords?

After a bit of a break for the holidays and school stuff, I figure I'd get back to update. I pray that I can get around to this regularly...
Anyways, I just finished up Pens, though now I see things that I need to get back to fix. I've left off basing him until I can get my hands on some more 40mm bases...

The shield could use a little more detail, and the blues look a little bright.

Again, bright blue!

The paint job started off really atrociously. The first layer of washes turned out waaaaay to dark, and it's been a battle to get the skin back up to an acceptable tone. His hat and scarf started off as a matching pair, and both ended up looking powdery pink, quite strange all together. I think he turned out well in the end, though. Thoughts?

Oh, some fluff, too

Pens, The Hunter
Spoiler:

Ishiin was born to a family of mine-slaves deep beneath Hive Tellius. His early life was marked by the tragic loss of his father to a mine collapse, as well as a pox that swept through the mutant camp when he was nine standard years old. Due to the untimely death of his father, as well as the loss of many of his close friends, Ishiin became devoted to his Mother, as well as to his friends that had survived the scourge of the pox. Ishiin vowed that he would never let those he loved to be taken away from him again.
As soon as his arms were strong enough to heft a pickaxe and to operate the mine carts, Ishiin joined his clan’s miners and set to work in the tunnels around the settlement where they lived. The ore hauled forth from the earth was sold and bartered to unscrupulous traders for supplies and medicine, their diets comprised of the fungus that was grown in abandoned tunnels and any wild beasts that the hunters would bring back from long expeditions into the dark tunnels.
When he was close to nineteen standard years old, one of Ishiin’s friends was dragged off into the darkness by one of the things that inhabited the abandoned mine shafts. Hunting and killing the beast that took his friend, Ishiin discovered his uncanny ability to track down the things that haunted the depths, and was soon allowed to leave the ore trains to become one of the clan hunters. It was during one of his long excursions that the third and most painful calamity befell Ishiin and his kin. A newly raised guard regiment, the Haemite 231st, was ordered to gain some combat experience before shipping across the galaxy to destinations unknown. The commanders of the 231st decided that a purge of the undertunnels of Tellius was not only sorely overdue, but would also provide the green troops with valuable experience in battle.
The 231st burned a swathe through the underhive of Tellius, putting those that affront the Emperor to the blade. After two weeks of crusade, it was decided that the new troops had had enough. Swinging around for the return trip back to the main spire, the 231st stumbled upon Ishiin’s home. Setting upon their foes with zeal, the guardsmen began murdering the mutated residents. As soon as the massacre was fully underway, Ishiin, called “Pens,” the mutant’s slang for hunter, stepped into his home to the sight of his clan being butchered. Flying into a rage, Ishiin pulled out his skinning knife and the decaying handgun he used to cull the beasts in the dark and began to enact his revenge. Fighting through to the hut that he shared with Mother, Ishiin burst through the door to the sight of Mother on her knees, pleading with a scarred veteran guardsman. Calling out for the man to stop, Ishiin lunged towards Mother. With a cackle, the vet pulled the trigger of his lasgun, reducing Mother to a slumping corpse and a puff of red mist. Turning to the shocked Ishiin, the vet fired off three shots from the hip, hitting Pens in the thigh. It was too much for him. Ishiin blacked out.
He awoke to smoke, to screaming. The guard had moved on, leaving the wounded mutants to die and their dwellings to burn. Ishiin stood, wincing with pain. His leg had begun to heal, a byproduct of his mutations. Limping away from what remained of his life, Ishiin knew he had died. Ishiin was Mother, his friends, his clan, and they were dead. All he knew was that those that did this to him were still at large, and that the Imperium would pay for his loss. Pens the hunter walked away from the fires, following the trail of Mother’s murderer.

Cheers!

Got some work done on an apostate cardinal. Turns out metal is a lot harder to work with than plastic

Started off something like this

...and a dash of chaos...

Game of hearts, anyone?

I also started work on the truscaled marine. A big chap he is, though he could to stand to gain a little weight. I think he's going to be a Night Lord.

I'd love to hear what you think

Despite an interview and the 49er's game, I managed to get the marine finished. I'm too tired now to try to get a good portrait of him, so pics tomorrow

In the meantime, some fluff for those interested.

The formal cardinal and now self-declared Saint Petyr glared down from the pulpit at the congregation gathered beneath him. Heretics. Every damned one. They had come to see their Archdeacon speak, but he was indisposed. They got Petyr instead. The crowd’s faces turned from adoration to horror as they saw the fresh splatters of thin arterial blood that graced Petyr’s cloak and armor, and the head of their beloved Archdeacon clutched in his left hand, the right held behind his back.
I wish I could burn them all! They all deserve it… Yes, they’ll all go up in flames. Petyr smiled and decided; I’ll burn them to ash.
A suppressed giggle leaked out of Petyr’s grin as he stepped up onto the ledge that enclosed the preacher’s pulpit, allowing the congregation to get a full view of his malign form splattered in the remains of their leader. Several figures in hooded robes appeared behind him carrying the deacon’s truncated corpse. They dumped it unceremoniously upon the tiling of the pulpit as two of them bent down over it, out of sight of the crowd. Petyr’s mechanically augmented voice was harsh as it echoed across the courtyard, cutting through the shocked silence that hung in the air above the crowd.
“Your deacon was a heretic. An abomination! His every breath an affront to all that is Holy!” The crowd seemed to awake as if from a trance. The sounds of protest drifted up from the crowd. Petyr grinned widely. “Don’t believe me? See for yourself.” He tossed the holy head into the crowd, the still bleeding neck raining blood onto the crowd.
A young woman caught the head of the man to whom she and her entire congregation had been entirely devoted. She raised her gaze up from her leader’s cooling countenance to Petyr’s pulpit, spat and said, “You’re a monster! May the God-Emperor damn you!”
Petyr laughed as he drew an ornate las pistol, staining its expensive wooden grip with a hand still bloody from the Archdeacon’s head. “I’m sorry, pretty thing. It is in fact you who are the monster. The Archdeacon was a monster, a heretic. You’re all heretics for following him, and you’ll all burn!”
He cast his look over the crowd as he said this, gesticulating carelessly with the pistol, careful to keep his right hand out of sight. His eye finally settled back upon the woman. Regarding her like a jeweler eyes a precious stone, Petyr smiled and took aim. “Actually, your Emperor has already damned me.” He fired.
The woman’s body collapsed, her head now just red mist and shards of bone. The Archdeacon’s head fell from her limp hands and rolled a distance across the ground before being picked up by another of his followers. As soon as the man stood up, Petyr shot him through the neck. The head bounced a little as it was dropped. Someone began to bend down to pick it up out of the dirt, but thought better of it, straightening hastily.
Petyr smiled warmly at the crowd as the men standing behind him hoisted up the crucified remains of the Archdeacon. He grinned widely, showing the crowd the Archdeacon’s still twitching heart grasped in his mechanical right hand. He raised it above his head and squeezed, lifting his head back to allow the blood to splatter upon his face. It dribbled down his scarred countenance. With his remaining organic eye glowing fitfully, Petyr cackled.

“Join me or die.”

A penny for your thoughts!

Thanks, guys

Also: more fluff! (does anyone read it?)

Rhaaz’s Soul Reaper is a massive power sword forged upon Terra in the darkness before the Emperor’s ascension. Crafted with a power supply far beyond what the priests of Mars dare create and a psycho-attuned crystalline adamantine steel alloy quenched in the blood of innocents, Soul Reaper is one of the finest examples of humanity’s weaponry. The blade has garnered a fell reputation through a long service in the hands of many a heretic. Because of the blade’s psychically sensitive construction, the blade claims fragments of the souls it has destroyed. It is said that each swing of Soul Reaper is accompanied by the screams of those who have fallen before its ever-keen edge.

Rhaaz claimed the blade from a fallen Black Legion marine in the chaos after the collapse of the Warmaster’s tenth crusade. The legionnaire had taken up the relic from an archive-treasury in the Imperial Palace during the Siege of Baat, using it to cut a bloody swathe through the loyalist defenders. Imperial analysts cataloging the losses of artifacts from the treasury could find no record of the sword’s interment therein. Each foe destroyed by the marine caused the disembodied voices of the blade to grow in volume inside his head, overcoming his weak will and pushing him into madness. Thousands fell to the cruel edge of Soul Reaper in the hands of Horus’ Son.

Following the instructions of the clamoring souls within his weapon, the marine made his way to the damned world of Savon’s Hope, Rhaaz’ last known location. Months were spent on the surface of the planet, tracking down the individual whom the blade spoke of. The marine soon succeeded, ultimately confronting Rhaaz. After what could have been a lifetime of furious dueling, the Son of Horus landed a clean blow against the head of Rhaaz’s chainaxe, destroying it completely. The legionnaire began to cackle, and swung Soul Reaper into his own left arm, removing it completely. Still laughing, the marine hacked into his right leg just above the knee. His first blow could not completely part his limb from his body, so he swung again and again. He knelt, and with his remaining arm, drove the sword into his stomach, jerking it sharply upwards towards his chin. Still giggling, the marine drew a bolt pistol, resting its barrel against his temple. Coughing blood, his gaze settled into Rhaaz’s eyes. “The voices…are laughing too…” One last chuckle, and Horus’ Son silenced his laughter eternally. Walking to the corpse of his enemy, Rhaaz pulled his prize out from the body of the demented marine, and began to listen.
“Yesssssss….he will do……”
“Indeed. He will bring us many…”
“We need them…crave them…”
“More souls for…the hungerrrr…”
Rhaaz smiled.

Great marine, one thing you could do is cut a groove at the bottom of his chest and have the tubes running across his abdomen like on a normal marine. You can see it on my marine here:

Got some painting done, but I've lost my camera. (Excuses! ) The Night Lord is coming along well, and all the colors are starting to fall into place. I've also started work on an Ordo Sepultura inquisitor conversion based on one of the new vampire lords. Though as the saying goes, "pics, or it didn't happen." As soon as I find my camera, I promise, there are updates coming!

In the meantime, I figure I'd post a vignette I wrote recently. It's not exactly 40k, but you might enjoy it anyways.

Deep shadows spilled from the contours of the regal face carved upon a once-grand statue. The grey light that fell upon the sculpture seemed to be absorbed by the hard stone, reflected only as inky black. His face scowled down at the decaying existence placed in front of him with the haughty gaze of a mighty ruler. The shadow of self-assured arrogance seemed misplaced, though the shade of a smile that slightly curled his lip served to further unnerve those who glimpsed his likeness. None understood how one so surrounded by his own collapse could look so smug with his body consumed and his bones turned to dust to be swept away with the breeze along with his kingdom.

Time had weathered the features of the statue, rounding the harsh edges of his countenance. The strong, high cheekbones typical of his dynasty had fully manifested in their last son, though now time had blunted their stern set. A goatee that betrayed the greys of aging in amongst the black sharpened a pointed chin. It was paired with a meticulously groomed and equally pointed moustache that jutted to either side of his mouth. His lips were as the stone they were carved in: hard and unforgiving. The pronouncements of his rule weighed most heavily upon them. All who looked upon him knew what breed of king he was. His face was regal, arrogant, ruthless.

His stone-frozen robes were now frayed around the edges. The folds of the fabric seemed threadbare, the grain of the granite showing the weave of the fine cloth. Though now ancient and decayed, the robes still cast a royal air around the king. Carved into grey stone, the fabric in royal color and golden thread embroidery were fully evident, regardless of the statue’s pall.

His throne was simple yet grand, its strong lines and hard angles cast a sense of stern majesty and power around him. It pooled in the hall around him, clinging to the walls and columns with the shadows. Death and Glory sat upon the arms of the throne. Though they sat just past the veil of sight, all who set their gaze on the statue could see them. Through the weight of eons, the might of the king was palpable, just as powerful as the day his image was carved into the stone.

The king cast his stony gaze over the ruins of his palace and empire, watching their slow crumble into the embrace of oblivion with an unblinking gaze. Large avenues and courtyards were guarded by the likenesses of the heroes the empire had spawned. Now weathered beyond recognition, the heroes watched mournfully as their city was worn to nothing. The buildings of the city were dead. Each dwelling and shop slowly slumped into themselves. Wooden ceilings had long since been eaten by rot, stealing away the integrity of the buildings. Their walls fell in slow motion, the rubble profaning the once immaculate streets outside and crushing once-lush gardens guarded jealously within courtyards. Grand temples dedicated to forgotten gods towered over the city, casting their shadows over the places where fearful worshippers used to pray. Each temple was protected by a legion of gargoyles and demons petrified in stone. Despite their divinity, they were not spared. Like the rest of the city, the temples were slowly being pulled down, back into the earth.

The king almost laughed. The futility of his rule was entirely apparent to his carved eyes, as all his kingdom’s holdings were slowly ground into rubble and dust. Despite the decay, the king knew he had succeeded. He sat immobile in stone upon the throne of his empire, still casting his inky shadows upon the earth. All who saw him shuddered with his might; they all felt the potency of his rule. None who saw him could ever shake his arrogant stare from out of their minds. Though his name was long lost, the king would never be forgotten. Those who had beheld his presence could never forget, and they spread stories of him, sketched his likeness, wrote of his power. Time would slowly crush the king beneath the weight of ages, but it could never destroy his memory. A stony smile seemed to spread across his likeness, for he knew that he could never die. He had won.

Finally! A picture update. Take a look!

The lightning effect on the sword turned out a lot better than I expected it to.

And the body

I also blocked out some of the colors on the Saint. Red for his robes, white on the hat and mantle, wood for his necklace thingie, and then bronze and oily metal where appropriate.

Cheers!

Ladies and gentlemen, Rhaaz, the Destroyer.

The lightning turned out really well.

A better look at the base. Seems a little minimalistic, but I didn't want it to distract from the model.

I love the blending on the bone “horn?” sticking out of his back pack, its very nice. What colours did you use?

And the lightning effect on the sword looks great, its nice to see it in purple.

And of course you cant go wrong with a bloodied limb on the base

Thanks

The horn started denab stone, over which was painted lines of bleached bone to add some texture. The blending was basically just scorched brown and black "watered down" with gryphonne sepia wash in changing quantities. I'm not perfectly pleased with the blending though, so I think I might go back and redo it.

I've also started work on a female inquisitor based on Isabella Von Carstein. I'll have pics soon!

I think that Night Lord's size is comparable to his Awesome rating! The sword is cool, and i dont know what it is about chain fed bolters i love, i just do =p 1 thing i would do which would be really easy... add small blotches of black wash to the blood, especially where there is alot of it.

Cheers

Nice idea for the blood. I'll give it a shot. Also, I'm really glad you like the bolter, as it took waaay too long to finish. I had to cut each round out off some ork bit, shape each individually and then glue them together in a way that wouldn't see them falling apart. Turned out well, though

Wow, that night lord is amazing. As they have always been my fav legion from way back I am a sucker for anything NL.

Great job on the conversion. I love the look of the model he just feels and looks right to me. The sword is great, and yes I do read the fluff. It's what made me continue reading this plog. =o]

Keep up the good work please. Also since you have one night lord while any others maybe make a appearance? Like maybe Talos the Soulhunter and his crew?? Altho honestly this guy reminds me of Shal from Lord of the Night. Which is a good thing as I rather liked him. Even kinda felt a little sorry for him once his 'brother's' appeared.

I've been putting a lot of my time into a new DE army, so have not had as much for =][= as I would have liked, but thus is life. I did manage to find some time to work on the female inquisitor, Lady Louisette of the Ordo Sepultura. She's based on Isabella von Carstein, as I've mentioned. To begin with, I wanted her to have a melta or plasma pistol and a power sword, but that fell through due to a missing arm on the sprue. Now the plan is to have her with a bolt pistol and las pistol, in addition to her psychic powers. No plan survives contact with the enemy, as they say. I thought that I'd use empire pistoleer arms with weapon swaps, but it turns out that the hands are gigantic, completely out of proportion, and unusable without me having to re-sculpt the hands entirely, which is thoroughly out of my league.

"If your hand is bigger than your face, you have cancer."

An original arm for scale

Casting around my workbench for some solution, I happened upon some of the aforementioned DE bits, which are slight enough to be within proportion. A few cuts later, and we're in business.

Much better!

Here's a look at where she's at now. She'll have a backpack added, with a cable running to her temple. I also need to clean up some of the casting shenanigans rampant, i.e. sculpting a front to her dress.

The problem now is whether or not to sculpt over/file off the ridges on the arms. They look very "eldar," but at the same time, seem to fit into the texture of her bodice, so I don't know. Thoughts?

I've also done some painting work on the Saint

Still need some touch-up work on him done, but that'll be quick. I'll have better (completed!) pics up soon.

Always glad to hear what you have to say!

Great work on the Lady Inq Prime! Kudos to you for using Isabella...I mentioned this on PDH's thread, she's super, super tiny...I took one look at her and thought; "I've got no chance with this! Even if I managed to convert her, I'd never paint it well!" Haha but you've done a really good job!

I love that particular las pistol, have one I'm waiting to use for a character myself. I wouldn't stress about the DE plates, I had a lot of people comment that they didn't like them on a few of my characters so I did rework them...removed glyths, spikes, ovals etc but on my vampy rouge trader countess they just seemed to fit her so kept much of it unchanged (WIP pic below if you haven't seen her) As your gal is an Imperial Inquisitor I'd say just slap a few p.seals over the odd bit and job done!

It's been a bit of a nightmare working with Isabella. Not only was the sprue full of flash and the model full of wonky details and bubbles, but the arm holding the chalice of blood was missing. Coupled with the fact that she is absolutely tiny and that the resin medium is as brittle as sin, it's been quite a project. Fun, but hell, too.

Also, nothing fixes modeling problems like purity seals....

You should have returned the model and got a replacement if it wasn't complete when you bought it.

Good start on her so far....and great minds and all that!

The priest is cool...really like the bionic eye.

Night Lord is great...like his ruffled collar and ceremonial helmet. I hope you've read Soul Hunter and follow ups.

PDH wrote:You should have returned the model and got a replacement if it wasn't complete when you bought it.

Yeah, I really should have, but I didn't get around to it. Didn't need the arm, and I bought it from a 3rd party, so I didn't want to jump through those hoops. (Read as: Too lazy...)
Good start on her so far....and great minds and all that!

Hah! Thanks I'll be looking to see how your version comes along.
The priest is cool...really like the bionic eye.

The priest has been a blast to do. I don't really have much experience working with and trying to convert metal models, so there was a bit of a learning curve, but still, he's turned out a lot better than I though he would. As for the eye, I ended up seeing another pic of the model (unaltered) and thought, "Hey! That one doesn't have a bionic eye. Did I get some sort of recast?"
Night Lord is great...like his ruffled collar and ceremonial helmet. I hope you've read Soul Hunter and follow ups.

The ruffled collar was a bit of a lucky accident, so I am tickled pink to hear that you like it And yes, I have read Soul Hunter, and quite enjoyed it. Will probably have to read it again now that you've mentioned it

I'm going to try to have the Saint painted and the Lady converted by Friday, so keep an eye out for updates by then
Cheers!

I got some more work on the Saint done, mostly touching up his hat and sash thing, as well as doing his base. The problem is that I look at the model and can't really see it as done, like it needs something else. Of course, I have no idea what that is What do you guys think?

I've also done some more work on the Lady, namely starting a backpack for her, and the beginings of resculpting her dress. My experiance with greenstuff is limited, and this is the first time I've tried to sculpt fabric. It's harder than it looks! Anyways, on with the pics!

The fabric is really, really rough now, pending another few layers of green stuff. Still, it probably won't ever get that smooth. Tips would be really great, if you have any, I'd love to hear them.

...And her backpack/head hose. Guitar wire doesn't like to play nice, but a few minutes spent wrestling with it seems well worth it. Looking at the picutres, it becomes quite evident that I really need to clean up her robes some more. finecast...Oh well. It's nicer than metal

Feedback is always welcome, but would be especially nice now

Take it easy

Prime don't wrestle with guitar wire. Once you go zinge industries you'll never go back. His wire wrapped cable is the best thing since sliced bread. I do like her backpack and that you've given her head cabling. You really do need to clean up her robes though.

Ah and on other thing I missed it last time...I really like the handle on the priests chainsword.

Long time, no update. I apologize

@smiler, Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I hope I can keep providing
@PDH, I took a look at zinge, and they appear to be cheap as chips, so I'll definately try to get my mitts on some cabling as soon as I can. Thanks a lot for the sugestion

I've been swamped with schoolwork and university application shenanigans, and so have been kept quite busy of late. I have had a chance to get some modeling done, though. I added another (smoother) layer of GS to the Lady's robes, but it's not really remarkable enough to warrant pictures.

I've also started working on a hunched little mutant who will be accompanying the Lady, cleansing the unclean with his trusty flamethrower, or so goes my idea. I've started with a WFB ghoul as a base, but I'm at a loss for the arms. I think I'll be using the standard cadian (or even better: DKoK)flamethrower as a base and try to get it to fit ghoul arms, pending the acquisition of some bitz.

Anyways, here's the progress. I've started a pair of boots for the chap, as bare feet seems like a bad idea in the underhive and mines of Haemos.

The sculpting work is really really rough, but the idea is to have a pair of steel-toed boots in the end. I'm dreading sculpting laces (I can hardly tie my own, let alone sculpt them in miniature) so I'll leave the boots flopping open without them.

I'm also going to give the character (no name yet, suggestions?) a Phantom of the Opera style mask, but I can't decide which one I like more.

I think the closed-jaw head with a nose may be the one I go for, with an added cigar, of course.

Anyways, that's that. I want to get the Lady done soon, so that'll probably be the next update

Until then, I'd love to hear from you

Hah, thanks! I can't say the idea is completely original, with the inspiration for the mutant based on a ghoul "borrowed" from PDH's, well, ghoul mutant.
Spoiler:
The mask idea is a sort of conglomeration of some of the stuff from over here. http://footoftape.blogspot.com/2010/04/burn-witchand-such.html (an awesome blog, by the way)
The general layout of the masks, especially the one on the right, is LOTR berserker all the way.

As Einstein said, "The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources." Of course, that never seems to work on my term papers.

I've just been using a hobby knife and sandpaper, but I recently carved a little shaper tool out of a spare bit of finecast sprue, so I have that, too. It works dubiously at best, but it's better than just the knife.

Hey guys!
I've just gotten off of spring break, which was a well deserved and sorely needed vacation from school I managed to make a trip out to Boston University, which is probably the school that I'll be attending next fall. (anyone from around there feel free to PM me )

Unfortunately, the break did not allow for much painting time, and what little there was needed to be used on my dark eldar (another blog, I think, tba) I did get to do some work on one of my favorite models, a witch hunter acolyte with a torch and a book. Enough chitchat, pics!

...and some of his book. A good read, I hope.

Pending some feedback and a few retouches, I think I'm going to call it a job well done.

Hey, you! Yes, you. Come here. You like dreadnoughts, right?

The forgeworld chaplain dread for use as a furioso or perhaps a death company dreadnought. I couldn't figure out how to paint the purity seals, thinking that the parchment color would look exactly like the bone, and the wax would look like the wings, so I decided to go with orange for the cloth and blue (maybe) for the wax.

The base is done, too, so I'll get pics of that up soon. Also, I've started a blog for my fledgling dark eldar army, so check that out too!

I love the Isabella model, I am using it in an upcoming Chaos Necromunda gang as a fallen noble woman corrupted by Slaanesh. Though I bought the best one in the shop it still had plenty of defects, maybe as she is so tiny she is more susceptible to bubbles and things. Have you tried using liquid greenstuff to smooth out her robes? I can't tell if that is what you have used already but I think with a lot of thin layers you could get a smooth finish.

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/04/29 04:08:30

I only got some recently and I love it so far, I plan on using plenty on my Isabella to hide the areas where I have scraped off the roses. I've had some great results using it to hide the cracks where arms join to torsos etc, seems like a really useful item.

Hey guys,

I've had a fairly productive weekend, despite a formal on friday and Mother's day today. I spent the day making my mom spaghetti, which was fantastically good, despite the evaporated milk (in spaghetti? Heresy!) curdling a bit. It was really nice to be able to spend a day just cooking for my family, something I love doing but haven't done in a long time. Definitely felt rusty, though. Managing five pans at once whilst simultaneously chopping vegetables is just about as hard as it sounds, though it's much more fun.

But more on topic, I got some work done on the mutant flamer guy, who I think I'll call "Boots." I managed to mooch some guard flamer bits off of a friend, and made a fuel tank to go on his back, as well as get the first layer of GS straps down on him, too. I...don't...actually have pictures, but I'll snap some tomorrow in the daylight.
My last AP exam is tomorrow, too. Biology, ugh...

Hug your mums!

I hope you're ok with it, but I "hugged" your mom last night, so....
As for pictures, I could take your que and tease, but no! I am a benevolent lord "Let there be pics!" and there were pics!

Boots, the mutant

I need to figure out some hose arrangement for his flamer. Origionally, I was going to run a line from the bottom of the wand to the spigot on the tank, but that would require a lot of awkward cabling, so I think that I'll run the hose from the near end of the tank to the top of the thrower. All in all, I'm quite pleased with him. There are some more things to do for sure, but he's complete enough to see the final product. I'm suprised at how much my sculpting has improved over time and with practice, but it's still pretty bad

As always, I'd love to hear what you think!

is that a socket wrench on top of his fuel can?
on a completely related note looks good. do you use any thing to sand down your gs?

Post by: Bruticus

He looks cool, I love his overabundance of things on his back. It looks like he would reach behind him and turn the wrench to start up his flamer which is a nice touch, that or someone opens it up for him.

If you need cables, try the pewter ones from Dragon Forge (although I think I got mine on ebay), they are really easy to work with.

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/05/15 01:38:37

Post by: prime12357

Thanks Bruticus! I'm glad the valve works out. It's an old handle from (I think) the old metal deff dread. I needed something to break up the top of the tank, and it seems to make sense. You know, having a big release valve on your pressurized tank of promethium, which isn't pyrophoric or anything...

His boots and mask have not been sanded down quite yet. The GS is still curing on his boots, and I've been a touch lazy with his mask. The small little areas like his bracelets probably won't see much sanding as they're almost too small to notice. Of course, the truth is that some sanding won't really fix poor sculpting

I've been meaning to buy some good cabling, and I shall! Soon...

I like it, though your greenstuff could still use a little work. I remember back when I was at the stage (still am, often enough), but it was really improved when I got a sculpting tool or two. One thing I do is smooth everything out while it's still very fresh and carve off extra bits. You would be surprised at how smooth an edge you can get from craving and filing an area.

Also, you might have stated this earlier, but I may not have spotted it. Do you put vaseline or grease on your sculpting tool(s) to prevent stickage? Also, do you have a rounded tool or equivalent you could use for the round parts? That would help smooth the stuff out a lot too.

Kaesar II, arrogantly offering advice since 1744. Hope it helps

I think your green stuff work looks good. Nice use of the ghoul.
GS is not all that easy to work with. IT takes practice and learning over time. The only way i have gotten good with it is by going through four or five ounces of the stuff sculpting on different projects. Keep practicing and working with it. A hint that i got early on is to not over work. Do a little bit at a time and try to do stuff that is really detailed in multiple stages. I found a tutorial somewhere that showed how to sculpt a Gimli, in about 9 stages. Look around and see if you can find it. it was a good un.

Thanks guys for the tips! It's true, I'm really not all that talented in GS sculpting. At all I've been using a tool that I made myself to sculpt as of late out of a bit of sprue, as I've mentioned, I think. It works out pretty well, but I really just need to pony up and pay for real tools

That's about what it looks like. It sure beats an exacto and one's fingers, for sure.

Speaking of green stuff, I've been able to get work done on the mutant, basically just adding a hose from his back tank and his flamer.

Not too groundbreaking, but I think he's finished well enough now and ready for paint. Last chance to get your suggestions in

Of late, I've been sorta stuck on the Lady. As it turns out, cloth is really hard to sculpt, and my difficulty in producing a product that I liked really clouded my perception of the model as a whole. Going back to her, I added a little more detail to her robes, and then basically covered her in bits and things I think I'm most proud of the seals I sculpted on her front to fill a blank space. Though not great, they work as a proof of concept and look decent to boot.

What's that? Yes, you there in the back. What now? More pics? You got it!

The more I look at them, the more I like the seals, which is a rare phenomenon for my sculpting.

I added a little scope or lens thing to her laspistol and added some gear to bulk out her waist.

Again, more stuff around her waist and some backpack detailing.

Let me know what you think. I'd really love some feedback on her. She seems just almost done, but I'm afraid to go to far.

Also, extra special bonus!
I just started working on a chaotic bodyguard for the Saint and his warband. It's really really rough now, but It's enough to get the idea, I think.

He'll be getting some more armor on his right arm, and detail scattered throughout.

I've got five final projects to get done for this week or next, so I'll probably be avoiding those by sculpting and painting

Always eager to hear your thoughts,

J

Too many damn years of book learning finally paying off No, it'll be really nice to get done, enjoy the summer and then head off to university. It should be fun, but packing up and moving cross-country has me a little worried. Hah, we'll see how it goes!

GS is really scary, but if you work in layers, it keeps your fingerprints out of it. If you poke around online, you can buy the stuff by the pound. I've only ever used green stuff, though. I've heard that some people swear by brown stuff, miliput, or kneadnite as you mentioned. I think it would be good to give it a try, but I still have a lot of GS left, and I'm a little hesitant to try out some other medium. Of course, I don't really know much about the other mediums, so they're worth a try.

Heyo!

I've got some of the colors blocked out for both the Lady and the new mutant, but need to take pics Look forward to them!

I've been roped into some Necromunda with a group of friends, and have decided upon an admech gang. We'll be using the inquisimunda ruleset, here, supplemented with the community rules, here. We'll have a total of five gangs to start out with, and more may add in, so it's a good sized group. We've got a chaos coven, probably tzeentch, a genestealer cult, an imperial salvage team, and a good old-fashioned underhive gang, Orlocks, I think. Because the modeling will take up a fair amount of time, and because some of the characters might find their way into our inquisitor games, I'd figure I'd post this stuff here, too.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

The campaign is set upon a space hulk that has been colonized by a small group of humans after its clensing several years earlier. The settlement grew out of the salvage operation that followed the space marine purge of the hulk, Baptism of Fear. Now, several hundred years later, the hulk is being used as a massive freighter, shipping thousands of megatons of goods from planet to planet, as well as transporting pilgrams and missionaries along pilgrimage routes, dropping them off at holy sites along with cargo. The many members of the original salvage crew stayed upon the hulk, eventually raising families along with the first crew to pilot the hulk in millennia. The pilgrams and other passengers contributed to the population's growth, and after many years, the hulk boasts a permanent population of several million, rivaling that of a small imperial hive.

By nature, space hulks are gigantic and convoluted structures, formed of hundreds or even thousands of ships fused together by the fickle tides of the warp. Try as they might, humanity's finest warriors, the space marines, could not completely cleanse the Baptism of Fear. After years of quiet, the things that remain in the bowels of the hulk have begun to stir once again, stretching their malign tendrils up into the humanity residing above....

======

The Adeptus Mechanicus sent a contingent of techpriests to supervise the original salvage operation, and to recover what technology they could themselves. These first adepts remained upon the hulk, establishing a research outpost within the Baptism of Fear. The conclave grew with the settlement, producing the basic goods needed by the colonists. The outpost finally drew attention from Mars when an intrepid adept stumbled upon the remains of an ancient forgeship. Hoping to discover new STC plans or other archaeotech, swarms of new adepts arrived upon the Baptism Though only unusable fragments of STC's were discovered, the manufacturing capability of Mechanicus outpost Δ18-33 was increased by several orders of magnitude. The once-adventurous explorators turned wholeheartedly to the construction of tanks, guns, ammunition, and whatever else was needed on the planets frequented by the hulk. Because no remarkable find was made upon the Baptism, the attention of the Mechanicum shifted away from the hulk, and Δ18-33 went back to being a little backwater research station and forge.

After nearly half a millennia, a young boy, Orionus Rei was born to two menial parents working within Δ18-33. The boy was taken, as is custom, to the seminary established with the first wave of adepts for his education. He spent his childhood learning the basic workings of the holy machines, of holy chants to the Omnissiah, and of the exploits of the first explorators to arrive on the hulk. Like every young student before him, he became enamored with the tales of Magus Asa Bei, Adept Leonus, and of Enginseer Caius' discovery of the Forge. After showing promise in art of weapon crafting, Orionus was inducted into the Cult Mechanicus. After years of study and work, Magos Rei began to grow restless of constantly trying to improve upon the plasma channels of the Mk XIX generator, or of searching for the secret to making Magos Oren's revolutionary auto-cycler functional. Before any of his superiors could protest, Orionus gathered his subordinates and set off into the shifting depths of the Baptism of Fear.

Anyways, here's the list I'm starting with, led by Orionus himself.

Bellatrix is a young and promising enginseer apprenticed to Orionus. She, like her master, never lost the youthful yearning for adventure instilled in her during her time in the seminary. Her quest for glory knows no boundaries, and it is her dream to pilot one of the god-machines of the Collegia Titanicus, the bigger the better. Orionus just smiles at this and keeps his mouth shut.

Bayer has served on Station Δ18-33 for longer than anyone can remember. The cogitators, however, have not lost the date. Bayer has served for exactly 827.4 years, arriving with the first contingent of techpriests. Possessing no real ambition for advancement within the order, Bayer is content to spend his years perfecting his creations. When Orionus first ascended to the ranks of the Adeptus Mechanicus, it was Bayer who took the young aspirant under his wing and taught him the skill of the trade. Knowing that his former apprentice was setting off into the hulk, Bayer decided it was best to come along to keep an eye on the lad.

Cool fluff. How come some of your guys have skills already? Is your gang made with the AM explorator rules from the inquisimunda rules? My brother is running a necromunda gang using those rules and it looks pretty different. Good luck with your campaign, are you using any other custom rules?

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/05 20:44:57

Post by: prime12357

Glad you liked the fluff Some of the models have gotten skills from their first round of experience rolls. I really have no idea what I'm doing, so it could very well be wrong As for custom rules, we'll almost certainly come up with some along the way, as happens quite a lot in our campaigns. Do you have any suggestions?

Well it looks like your leader has a lot of upgrades, I don't think that can be right! You'd have to play about 5 games at least just to get those 3 skills. He starts off at 60+D6 xp, but doesn't have any skills/increased stats until he goes up to the next level.

As for custom rules I can help I think. We use all Anthony Case's stuff, including the skills.pdf and weapons.pdf which are pretty significant changes over the rulebook. I have an extended rare trade and outlaw trade chart I made that includes all the extra kit if you want a copy?

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/06 00:16:05

Post by: prime12357

So you don't roll any skills and stuff until you go up an experience bracket? Hmm, I suppose that makes sense, but I'm going to miss his T/W 4...

Anthony Case's stuff seems pretty solid, but what do I know I'd love a copy of the trade charts. Could prove useful during the campaign! Thanks

yeah sorry, no rolling until you go up for the first time, everyone starts out pretty weak.

Here's the rare trade we use:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4966868/Rare%20Trade.pdf

This has all the items mentioned in the additional pdfs on Anthony's site (otherwise there is no way to get hold of them). It doesn't have all the Inquisimunda items but we use those very sparingly.

Great, thanks for the trade charts. The list (for those interested) has been revised to the following, as it should be I've heard of necromunda's reputation for being a meatgrinder for characters, but after generating a roster and taking a closer look at the rules, I see the truth in the rumors I think I'll be able to get a game in today with my friend's genestealer cult, so I'll let you know how that goes!

Yakromunda is really good for making rosters, you can update it to have custom classes like enginseer and other custom rules without too much difficulty. It'll keep track of everything like letting you know when you are meant to roll for upgrades.

You've picked a tricky project to do for your first gang but it ought to be a lot of fun. When we were trying to adapt Inquisimunda rosters for Necro we tried to limit access to items that a house gang couldn't get so it wasn't unfair on people who want to play regular old Orlocks. For example, Inquisimunda gangs can all take armour and special ammunition while Necromunda gangs can't which might be considered unfair. To be honest, armour sucks in Necro anyway, I would ditch it all.

Your list doesn't have any heavy weapons? Admech can take up to 11 in Inquisimunda I think... we limited this to 2 to be fairer. I would try and get a heavy stubber, they are both amazing and really good fun to use.

If you count Menial as juves (can't work territory) and Enginseers as heavys (can't work territory) then you ought to try for 5 gangers that can work territory because you start with 5 and it is good to be able to work them all.

I've checked out yakromunda, but have yet to enter the roster. Turns out my gaming mate is busy today, so I'll have some extra time this evening to do that.

I think that everyone in our group is playing at least some flavor of inquisimunda gang, so I'm praying that it balances out ok. Of course, I've been careful to not take a whole bunch of ridiculous stuff on the roster. Once again, I really have no idea what I'm doing, so I'll surrender to a higher judgement. As for the armor, I guess I'll take your word for it, the points will be nice.

I never actually gave conscious thought to the inclusion of heavy weapons. I was thinking about taking a praetorian or a gun servitor, but I might drop the close combat enginseer for a heavy.

On that note, yes, I have been considering enginseers/secutors as heavies and menials as juves. With the points taken out of armor, and with some trimming, I think I might be able to cram in another ganger....

Post by: Bruticus

The thing is, unless you buy a heavy weapon at gang creation you are quite unlikely to get one for ages, if ever. You tend to spend all your money replacing losses. Heavy Stubbers are a bargain for the first half of a campaign (until lots of people get T4 and multiple wounds, then you need a heavy bolter). For value they are the best weapon in the game I reckon, and just good fun (sustained fire dice are always fun). I really miss them with my gang. Plus if you get one early you can start getting xp on your heavy.

Armour is sometimes ok, but a lot of weapons will have -1 save and that negates cheap armour. And heavier armour is meant to be a rare trade item rather than available to every gang.

By the way if you are interested in Necromunda I really love this thread: http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=215599.0 - it's a great read and has some tactics advice in there too.

Yeah, the heavy stubber makes sense when you put it like that. I think that I might just run one of the house gangs as a counts-as admech group. It certainly eliminates a lot of the wackiness, and should streamline the process, I'd miss out on the exotic wargear and stuff that fits so well with an admech group, but that's the price, I guess.

Of course, if I do chose a house list, I have no idea which list to use. Pitslaves make sense in a way, with implants acting as...implants, the downside is that they are purely combat, and I'm leaning towards balance. Van Saar makes sense with the techno, but they seem pretty skewed towards shooting, so also not good. Orlocks seem like a fit, maybe?

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/07 03:00:28

Post by: Bruticus

Pitslaves aren't a house gang, they are Outlaws and are pretty wacky themselves. Van Saar is your best bet I'd say, all house gangs will have some combat elements and some shooting, though Van Saar do tend towards shooting it's true. Orlocks are a pretty great all round gang.

I don't think you would have much trouble with your admech gang though, I don't want to put you off. Anthony Case's Spire Brat Pack rules might work too (all about gear), never tried them myself.

All right! Here's my friends preliminary genestealer cult list. Feedback would be awesome, as usual.

Magos: healing hands, embolden, precognition, shotgun (manstopper), chainsword
Neophyte: third arm, heavy stubber, sword
Neophyte: tentacle, flamer, sword
Neophyte: extra arm, evicerator, autopistol
Brood Brother: lasgun
Brood Brother: lasgun
Brood Brother: shotgun
Brood Brother: shotgun
Brood Brother: sword, autopistol
Brood Brother: sword, autopistol
Initiate: autopistol
Initiate: autopistol

The idea is that the two lasgunners babysit the stubber heavy, whilst a shotgun, sword/autopistol, and autopistol accompany the flamer and the evicerator. The leader accompanies a group as needed, providing healing support with healing hands and allowing early pinning recovery with embolden.

Should be pretty difficult to take down

Don't they come with a "free" knife at creation? Well it looks good i just didn't know that Genestealer cults could get mutations. Or will this be a fluff reasoning either way I'd like to see so maybe i can glean some knowledge on how to do so crazy stuff.

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/11 02:22:10

Post by: prime12357

Yes, everything comes with a free knife, which is why I didn't bother including it. The neophyte class, which is analogous to a heavy, (just that you can get four of them ) must take a mutation, but they cost -5 credits. The cult should be murder to play against. With quite a few models and awesome combat potential, coupled with magos' ability to redeploy d3 models after deployment, and then the fact that he ended up rolling a set of vents for territory....brutal.

That's a really strong list, couldn't really make a better one.

You're using Inquisimunda rules again? I just wrote up a simplified set of rules for genestealer cults so we can have them in our games, I think the Inquisimunda rules are generally a bit powerful when played against Necro gangs (eg the fact that the cult can get up to 3 genestealers, and can have a bunch of neophytes).

Not been tested yet but should be pretty balanced as it is very similar to a standard house gang, just with a few extra perks: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4966868/genestealer%20brood.pdf

Yeah, the stealer list is scary, to say thee least. The inquisimunda ruleset seems like it might end up a bit over powered, especially with the possibility of three genestealers running around. Apart from that, I'm hoping that the reletive strength of the other inquisimunda lists balance out the cult. I do really like the idea of a rating-based genestealer roll, but the cult player is pretty interested in running actual stealers. I was thinking of making some sort of hired gun style ruleset for the genestealer itself, but I think that we'll just run the rules as given, and see how it goes. Gives me an excuse to melt xenos with my melta-lance

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/12 13:55:46

Post by: Bruticus

There's a ruleset on Yakro that lets you buy stealers but it looks horribly overpowered. The Inquisimunda rules ought to be balanced againt each other fine, but theres no chance a fresh Necro gang can beat that list if they get 1 or 3 stealers showing up. I'd value a single stealer at about 400 rating, so 3 at 1200 rating is about the same as a fresh gang on their own

But then Necromunda is rarely very well balanced, as long as you have fun it doesn't matter.

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/13 02:37:40

Post by: prime12357

I think for the first few games, we might just say that one is enough. Also, with the other gangs calling on help, we might just decide that if either side takes an ally, the other side gets theirs automatically, too. i.e, the guard player rolls a marine, I can take an assassin, too.

My vote is to just do away with them all together, but I don't think that's very popular.

The Inquisitor Project - Necromunda: genestealer cult @ 2012/06/13 03:07:16

Post by: Bruticus

To be honest you might find the special models utterly unbalance the game, hell in early games a dude with a WS of 4 is powerful enough, let alone what a Genestealer has. Maybe you could limit them for a few games then bring them in, I have a feeling that a novice gang with a space marine ally is just going to be sitting around while he does everything.
