And now, with the start of the new year, I finally start my Hello Killy project log.
As one might expect, the army is a Hello Kitty themed Necron army.
Here's the models I currently have constructed to a point I feel comfortable sharing, and more will crop up in this thread from time to time as I finish them.
There are also more pictures of most of these in my galleries, so if you can't see a detail of a model, see if you can find one in the gallery.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/user/47990-Crackgnome.html
Models as of 2/2/2012
Current Plans:
Modelling To Do List (underlined items are completed):
HQ's:
- KitTrazyn
- Command Barge, KitTrazyn's
- Crypteks, Trazyn's RC:
- HoDespair
- HoDestruction
- HoE
- HotS
- HoT
- Nemesor [Name] (Counts as Nemesor Zahndrekh) OR Anrakyr
- Command Barge, Second HQ
Troops:
- 9 Warriors (Lower grade beads for heads, to reflect quality of biotransferrence construction)
- Ghost Ark
- 15 Warriors (Lower grade beads for heads, to reflect quality of biotransferrence construction)
- 10 Immortals (Hello Kitty heads)
- Night Scythe
Elites:
- 10 Deathmarks (Hello Kitty heads)
- 5 Lychguard (Hello Kitty heads)
- Deceiver Shard (face will be molded over and carved into, either classic Hello Kitty, or Octopus face O
Fast Attack:
- 10 Scarab Swarms ( 7 done, kitty ears similar to KitTrazyns)
- 5 Wraiths (Hello Kitty Heads with mittens instead of claws)
Heavy Support:
- Doomsday Ark
- Monolith (With Laser-eyed Hello Kitty Head in place of the crystal)
First we start with KitTrazyn:
Fairly simply conversion, just a Trazyn kit with ears carved from finecast sprue. Some minor casting issues, but nothing hot water and patience can't fix.
Next in line are KitTrazyn's Royal Court of 5 Crypteks. Yet to come up with a clever name for them.
All five were made from a Lychguard box, and each has a custom staff, as well as a head removed from a squishy Hello Kitty figurine from Walmart.
I made one of each of the Harbingers, though I may run them differently as the situation calls for it.
I still need to make a cloak for HoD and HoE, as well as a Crucible and Harp for HoT.
Harbinger of Despair:
Abyssal Staff made from warscythe handle, Bloodcrusher collar, backpiece from lychguard box, piece of a rod of the covenant, and skull and chain also from Bloodcrusher box. Shoulder decorations made from another rod of the covenant. (Better picture of staff in the Cryptek staves gallery)
I chose a mouse head, because even giant elephants are scared of them
Harbinger of Destruction:
Eldritch Lance made from two warscythe blades mounted on a single handle, with a small bit from the back end of the warscythes mounted in the middle. Shoulder decorations made from sharpened back pieces from lychguard box. Bear head because his little bow rocks. And bears are scary.
Harbinger of Eternity:
Aeonstave made from support column of Dispersion shield, warscythe handle, two hyperphase sword blades, and assorted small bits on the top from all of the aforementioned bits. Chronometron (on left hand) made from small orbs found on the bottom of lychguard torso backs, mounted on half of a particle caster. Teacher head because time manipulation requires super smarts.
Harbinger of the Storm:
Voltaic staff made from warscythe handle, a random piece of metal I found in a parking lot shaped like a pincer of some kind, and the back half of a particle caster. Monkey head because it's adorable and uh... monkeys... use tools...?
Harbinger of Transmogrification:
Tremorstave made from warscythe handle, and pieces of three Bloodcrusher collars. Sheep head because Transmogrification reminds me of polymorph and similar. I broke the model at the knees so it could be smashing the staff into the ground.
Deathmarks:
Still looking for a name for these fools.
Regular Deathmark models, minus the heads. I found a pair of Hello Kitty stud earrings, which I plan to use to make a mold with which to make heads for all of my Deathmarks, Immortals, and Necrons of similar rank.
Badly mounted earring head:
Assorted bits:
Standard Hello Kitty squishy from the box the Crypteks' heads came from
In Progress:
- Monolith:
Laser eyes almost ready to be installed. Debating magnetizing laser-head to swap out with spinning head.
- All warriors constructed, simply awaiting beads for finalization.
Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, insults, and rage

I like the idea of slightly chibi-ish heads for the Hello Kitty forces anyhow, so I figured they'd work well

They remind me of the Hello Kitty marines which went with the same type of heads and worked well.
Would look great once you have a full squad up and painted.

The Garden of Necrons army was actually kind of an inspiration for this.
My Monolith will be standard black, but will have pink trim instead of green.
I also have the working for a laser-eyed Hello Kitty head to replace the crystal, which will contain functional red LED's in place of the normal eyes.

Since the beads for my warriors are still en route, as are the blue acrylic rods for my Monolith, I've been working on the electrical components of the laser-eyed Hello Kitty head.
I'll post pictures of the basic wiring and mechanisms soon.

After quite a wait due to the start of the school year, my laziness, and a general lack of energy, I bring you (most of) my Kittylith!
This is the head. I removed it from a McDonald's bobble-head figurine, and viciousl- I mean carefully removed the eyes with a power drill. I widened the holes a bit more and implanted two 2.6V Red LED's. A bit of glue finished the job easily.
Here is the internal view:
The lights were soldered together, and a basic power supply/button setup was added. A 9V battery and a 220ohm resistor made for a simple wiring job that wouldn't blow out the bulbs.
I cut access panels in the center column of the Monolith, and a hole in the crystal assembly, then fed the wires through.
Here is the nearly completed result (a slightly warped Monolith kit called for some green stuff to keep it in line):
I mounted the button on the bottom of the monolith. I simply cut a hole in the bottom and widened the bottom hole on the central column to accept the back section of the button.
Here is the internal access panel. The outermost two wires come down from the head, and the other two come off the button. I figured it would be easier just to solder everything together in an open space than try to attach it inside the column.
Solder the last wires in sequence, add a battery, press the button, and you get a very angry Hello Kitty.
Hello Kitty will receive one(1) plastic-wrap helmet for the duration of the priming process.
The rest is assembled as of last night (including custom blue rods for the guns) save for the rods that I'll put in after painting.
Hope everyone enjoys this, and I'll keep working!

The Kittylith is pure awesome.

It looks even better with the other walls and the upper pieces on.
I dunno what to do about the big rods on the sides, since I don't have the right size rod for it. I was thinking maybe heating two of the smaller rods and twisting them together, though I dunno how well that would work, if at all. The other option is to haphazardly stuff them with some of the beads I got for my Warriors' heads, maybe paint them a similar color so it looks like Hello Kitty heads are the power source.
On a different note, I'm starting to get some fluff ideas for why this army exists. And I'm putting a Hello Kitty miniature into what would have been the Monolith crystal, and it can serve as Hello Kitty in a stasis tomb from which my army draws its power and prototypes.
So y'know, objective marker.

Stop being a stick in the mud and accept that not everyone has the same sense of humor as you. Making the serious ridiculous has been a popular form of humor for thousands of years. They were doing it in roman times for heavens sake. It is OK if you don't find it funny, but why do you care that others do? The fact that they enjoy it is enough reason for it to exist.

Construction completed on the Kittylith, just have a few things left to decide for detail work.
Did a rough highlighting of the main sections, and here are the results!
Please ignore the rough paintjob and slight soldering iron melting of the front faceplate <.<
I am a little scared of this picture D:
I'm starting to lay down some more detailed fluff for why this exists, most of it involving a Hello Kitty AI launched by Japanese descendants in the year 5000 or so to guide a colony ship, it goes crazy and creates a planet of Hello Kitty-based mechanical-lifeforms.
Long story short, Trazyn discovers it on some backwater planet near the Galactic rim in his search for technology, and is subsequently infected by the Hello Kitty master program, during which he transfers his consciousness to another body and flees the planet.
The master program cannot overwrite the base commands implanted by the Silent King before his exile, and thus infects a small Tombworld nearby in an effort to "restore" its "dynasty."
Thinking about painting the leftover warrior/deathmark/immortal heads I have and putting them in tubes that will replace the side rods on the Monolith, like they're somehow being used as fuel.
On a related note, my army is doing fairly well when it come to gameplay, though it seems to perform better when the Monolith's eyes are lit, which confuses and terrifies me.

It'll just be an objective marker most likely, or I could pull some silliness and call it a C'tan Shard since the thing I'm using for the base is MC size.

About the other necron, I feel a bit that it might look better if the heads where smaller than they are now, but still bigger than the necron heads... you know, about an inch in size. Now, while funny, they look like they are about to fall over.

Rules for it posted here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/429172.page Automatically Appended Next Post: Finally got around to photographing my most recent work.
First we have the Ca'tan Shard (see what I did there? Hyuk hyuk)
Fairly simple conversion, just trimmed down the face on a C'tan Deceiver, cut a bead in half, and mounted it with green stuff. I purposely left the little rim around the top of the head, to make it look like a little hat, and I plan to paint it sorta like a jester hat.
Ignore the small pockmarks on the face <.<
Next are my warriors.
Very simple here, take a warrior, trim the neck a bit to fit, greenstuff over the features and holes on one side of a bead, and mount.
Warrior before:
Heads:
Warrior after:
And by far the easiest conversion, my KittyBlade (Tomblade conversion).
Take Hello Kitty on a tricycle, drill a hole, mount on flying base. Laugh at silliness.
Hope you guys enjoy, and more conversions are still underway

Started working on some actual Necron Lords, as I keep finding need for them in my lists.
I bought some beads specifically for higher-caste Necron heads, but they're taking their sweet damn time getting here, so I may just end up using the same heads as my Warriors, or perhaps doing something similar to what I did with Trazyn.
Also, I came up with an idea for Resurrection Orbs. I'll be using balloon-shaped peridot beads like these:
I'll mount them on little string-wires and make it look like my Lords are holding little balloons, which I will paint appropriately res-orby.
Again, thanks for all the support guys, and I'll keep posting as things get finished!

Agreed.
I'd much rather have my own style than try to emulate something that's been done hundreds of times.
The point of a hobby, for me in any case, is to have fun and gain a sense of accomplishment, which is much more significant to me when I've made my own thing/design/etc, as opposed to just making another thing that's been done many many times before.

Played this army in a 1500pt tourney yesterday and got third place! Played against my roommate's SoB my second game, and we tied (he won by ~100 pts technically, but since it wasn't more than 10% difference, it was a "true" draw, not just a draw by Kill Points). First place had 3554 total victory points, my roommate got 3546 ( lol 9 point difference), and I had 3437, fourth place had 2600 <.<
Had a lot of attention for the SoB game, people enjoyed the Monolith quite a bit
Made a couple of ResBalloon lords (pictures forthcoming sometime this week) for the tourney, and they turned out pretty well.
Starting work on some magnetization for my Barges, as both the gun and the railing are IMPOSSIBLE to keep still during games.
Also found a couple of Destroyer sprues, so I'm working on making a couple of Destroyer Lords to use with Wraiths at some point in the future.
Hope you guys are still enjoying my work, and I'll most likely get Deathmarks and Immortals going here soon, since my beads for their heads FINALLY showed up.

Amazing! I'll admit, even with your super awesome drawing, I had some doubts about how this was going to be accomplished. But....now....forgive me for doubting!
Also, I think an epic battle diorama between your kitties and my Angry Marines would be pretty full of win. Oh, to have infinite time and money....

I love the crab chariot. I don't think I have seen such a fun conversion for a long while

Agreed, that might be pretty amazing xD
As for infinite time and money... I dunno, I'd be tempted to build full-scale Kittycrons :B

I am incredibly lazy, holy crap. Nine months without an update?
So I finally got around to building more wraiths, and actually painted a couple after they won me a small tournament at my FLGS (the winnings went to paint and supplies).
This marks my first fully painted model for my Necrons (not based yet, but soon). Basing ideas thus far mostly include my blue acrylic crystals, happy green grass, and some flowers. And maybe some blood. Body parts are also encouraged.
After I finish the squad, I'll probably follow it up with my Ladybug Destroyer Lord, an homage to the Garden of Necrons project.
I've changed my basic aesthetic from the Tron-esque painting I did on my Monolith to a more classic Necron metal, with pink washes and possibly pink mold on vehicles (coming from some kind of dart maybe?) representing the infection that must surely have befallen the Necrons for them to become so adorable.
Without further ado, Canopkat Wraith!
(paints listed at the bottom)
Pink wash is slightly less coherent in person, phone cameras are only so detailed
Side view
One of my sloppier head mountings. I'm considering doing a wraith being infected with one from the next box I build, with tentacles coming out of the head and latching on to the Wraith's face as it tries to pull away, possibly with the pink wash only partially down the body. Maybe also green energy at the bottom, with the blue working its way down from the head.
Hello there :B
Whole body drybrushed with Ironbreaker
Washed with Carroburg Crimson
Detailed with Lothern Blue
Details washed with Drakenhof Nightshade
Learning to actually paint better will inspire me to actually paint my whole army. Theoretically anyhow. Hopefully more updates soon! Or at least, Soon( tm).

Finally got around to basing my wraiths, and FINALLY painted my Destroyer Lord.
My girlfriend wanted to help with my project, and volunteered to make an ADL, which we substituted white picket fence for. Made 4x 5" sections, and 4x 2" sections, as per specifications I found somewhere online and didn't really check that carefully.
Again, paints and materials at the bottom of the post.
Models done this weekend instead of laundry:
Some wraith basing examples:
My Ladybug Destroyer Lord:
Oh no! Mindshackle Butterflies!
Aegis DeFENCE Line (get it, get it?)
Fence was made out of bits of stiffer illustration paper, cardboard, and electrical tape.
Destroyer Lord was painted with a Candy Apple Red model car paint I found at an art supply store, which ruined one of my more terrible brushes, but came out looking nice and smooth. His metal bits are done with the same colors as my Wraiths: Ironbreaker and Carroburg Crimson, as well as Lothern Blue and Drakenhof Nightshade for blue energy bits. Abaddon Black and various other tiny colors for detail, and I used wire with green stuff for his antennae.
The flowers were small metal brads, and the butterflies are just stickers on wire, both found at a local art supply store.
The crystals I bought from Anarchy Models ( http://anarchymodels.co.uk/), and the guy was super awesome. I made sure to put aluminum foil under the crystals to give them more color, as they tended to look more dull if I put them on flat black bases.
Hope you guys enjoy my work so far, my next project is a Doom/Night Scythe, which is going to incorporate some new ideas I think.

I play a lot against people who are highly familiar with my work, as they've been there from the beginning.
Against new people though... I get some pretty awesome faces. Phones usually come flying out of pockets to take pictures to send to girlfriends, with attached messages saying "Hey, if you start play 40k with me, you can make an army as faaaaabulous as this one O:"
