This is the P&M for my newest and most time restricted project! "The Lost Children of Isstvan V" A 1500 Warriors of Chaos army by summer (Hopefully)!
This is because I want to play in my FLGS's Fantasy Campaign they run and have really liked the look and feel of the WOC army. I have not played Fantasy in a very long time, but with the help of a ton of people from here on dakka, I have been working on a possible list and have decided to slowly pick up squads piece by piece and try and complete them and post the progress here on Dakka.
The kind of things I will be working on shall be Chaos Warriors, Trolls(Of which i will be using the beastmen Minotaurs as a counts as unit and Doombull as Throgg) a Lord of some sort and Chaos Knights...I will also be including some other things but have not decided 100% what will be going into the army.
The Paint Scheme I will be going with will be something more of the Darker Purple Variety as I want something a little different then Khorne Red or Nurgle Green...I also think the color Blue leaves a bad taste in my mouth thanks to my days playing 40k and having to face so many Ultrasmurfs! The following pictures are some models I have been working on and show the basic paint scheme I have settled on, which is a dark purple/dark gold look
I hope I am able to keep everyone interested and will do my best to keep up with this project to the best of my ability (Even with 21 credit hours)
The Things I have currently;y finished include
-5 Chaos Knights ~Squad Complete~
-11 Warriors
-7 Minotaurs (Counts as trolls) ~Squad Complete~
-10 Warhounds
-Sorcerer Lord
What I still need to finish
-Throgg
-11 more Warriors
Is that bronze or do you think its a darkened gold of some sort? I was think a Leviathan purple with maybe some lightened highlights? and just darken the recesses? Any suggestions?
Cutthroatcure wrote:Is that bronze or do you think its a darkened gold of some sort? I was think a Leviathan purple with maybe some lightened highlights? and just darken the recesses? Any suggestions?
I cut every piece from the sprue and filed down and removed all mold lines to make them look a lot better.
I have chosen the horse in the last picture to be my first subject...Any ideas on what role he should play in this squad? Musician, Banner, regular knight?
So after spending some quality time with the lady and her family, I found myself with some extra time to make some major progress on the building of my Chaos Knights.
So with my tube of Testors (Blue) glue, toothpick and the 7th season of "Weeds" I was able to finish building all 5 horses and get them glued to their bases!!!! Huzzah
I then found a little more energy and then pushed forward and put the riders legs together just to put just a little more of a dent in the work I have to do to finish this army, now tomorrow I will have to make the important choices of what to model them with and who will get the horn and who will get the banner, as well as do I like the axe or sword better...If you have any ideas or want to cast your vote as what I should do please feel free to do so!
So another day has passed and it is time for me to show the bounty of today's labor!
It is nothing much but now at this point the only thing left for me to do is to start painting. Today I glued the riders together and put their shields together as well as pick out the weapons I intend to use. I have put together my general plan for the armor and I have also been working on a complete back story which i will write up and post on here tomorrow as I may not be able to start painting till I get white primer.
Thanks for looking and see you again tomorrow!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also This was my 900th post on Dakka!!!!
I'm also in the process of building my Chaos army. Those Knights sure do take a while to build properly don't they? So much detail to carefully scrape mold lines from.
If you are going to play WYSIWYG games, I would suggest not using that lance while the rest of the squad has the regular ensorcelled weapons.
I would also suggest not gluing the knights to the horses until they've been basecoated, it will make painting much easier.
I am going to leave them unattached until the painting is done as I know they will be a pain,
I have given alot of thought to just leaving them unattached but I also have some really nice foam caring cases so I may make some special cuts in those.
I have been going back and forth with that lance, I do play in tourneys but I really like that lance, maybe it can be just a very long ensorcelled weapon..LOLZ
-Shadowsnip- The paint scheme I am looking at should not give me too many issues with being done by may, I don't own an airbrush and have not had enough practice to use it to the best of my ability where this is kinda a test of my painting skills.
Thanks all for looking and feel free to throw any comments or criticism my way. I am hoping to have my back story finish tonight and then if I can snag some white primer will start working on my test subject!
Thanks, I hope I can keep you fully interested in this project and if I ask a question or you think something would look better just throw me an idea and I'll try it out!
So today I was able to borrow some White Velspar Primer from some friends since I am super low on funds right now and was unable to get a can myself and prime my test model!
I know the picture is not the best but it gives you something visual to look at along this road you have decided to travel with me!
Now begins the long road of Painting! I hope this comes out as nice as I am hoping and will update with pictures of the next stage for some C&C on how it is looking and what you all think may work better!
So I will end up posting again later today with some more updates, but this is what I got done at 3 a.m this morning as I could not sleep and wanted to try painting a little bit just to see what would happen.
My knight was a little camera shy in his new(Purple) armor and wanted his faithful steed in the picture to make him seem more manly.
Just thought I would give you all a Sunday morning update to give you all something to look at until later today!
Afternoon Update because I am home alone and have to do something while I wait for the rest of the army's primer to dry!
I got the basic idea of my armor palate done and felt confident enough to prime and prepare the rest of the squad for their step into my painting shop while I watch Greek & paint.
The pictures are a little rough but you get the general idea of how dark the armor will be. I need to pop a highlight or two onto it but otherwise this armor is what Ive got!
I also want to throw a major shout out to my friend GuitaRasmus for giving me his purple recipe and letting me use it on my army, and if you want to see a real painted Chaos army you should check his P&M out! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/395043.page
But without further ado here is the test subject with his darker armor! Test was a Great Success!
So here is the final color of the armor after a ton of tweaking on the test. I now have the recipe and method down to a science and am very very proud of the results!
Thanks Guita!
I still have a good bit of work and was thinking about doing the random symbols and edgings in a gold darkened by Devlan Mud but I am not sure if I should use burnished or shining, or if I should just use a Bronze/Tin Bits mix? Any suggestions would be welcome. I am going to try to have the entire squad 100% painted by Friday! After the knights ill get the horses done then the weapons and shields!
So here is what I have at the end of the day! (Test subject is being redone to match up with the finished results of everyone else!)
So was able to get a little work done on one of the knights and with a little more detailing and a few finishing touches I will be complete with my first knight (Minus the horse, shoulder pads or arms)
I should be able to nail out the rest of the squad pretty quick tmrw and if I am able to sit down and get that done then Wednesday I should be starting to paint my first horse, or basing and painting appendages, so fun fun either way.
So as promised after a little sleep and a day full of college classes, I bring to you pictures of the progress of the Chaos Steeds I have been working on.
I am quite happy with the current results but understand I still have a ton of stuff still left to do before they are complete but at least I have my basic color scheme down lolz.
I know it is not a lot but I have done the steeds skin and I have put the starting layer of paint onto the armor to get that process on the right track.
So tonight I decided to watch some Freaks and Geeks and Forgo sleep while I got into the mood of painting and got a ton of work done on one of my Chaos Steeds.
I still have to highlight the saddle, hooves, metal parts and a few other areas, as well as finish painting the horned areas and doing a few bits of detail work to the overall model, but for the night I am supper stoked at how it came out!
I need to work on the mouth as well and have noticed my knights are a little darker but with anything it is all trial and error and I am hoping they wont look bad together, i just will have it all done pat before I do my warrior troops and will be able to make the major chunk of my army fall into the full color scheme I have grown to love.
So at 3:00 a.m my time I make this post and hope it finds you all in good spirits.
So as I promised here are the pictures of the steeds and the current work I have completed.
I still have some work to do such as the bases, highlight and outline the saddles, do some highlighting on the metal, finish the tails and get the skulls painted. Which If I would just sit down and focus for an hour or two I could easily have done and then I would be able to move onto the riders and be just that much further to finishing my project!
So here they are in all their purple(unfinished) glory
That gold and purple works so well together, really nice stuff. The knight set is definately quite intimidating and as said takes a damn long time to put together, but the reward in the end will be worth it.
It has been done, one steed is fully finished and I wish I had a better camera to capture half of the details and no matter how many photos I took none of them looked as good as the model in person, blarg!
But either way, one is finished and tmrw I am hoping i will take the time one by one and finish the rest of the steeds....Pretty stoked!
On a side note just to get opinions, what color should I do my ensorcered Weapons? Light blue, turquoise, red or any other colors? I am open to suggestions.
I love seeing other Slaanesh WoC blogs! Really gets me motivated to keep the ball rolling on my own. Very nice stuff so far, can't want to see the warriors.
@buttlerthepug I am going for a Tzeentch/ Slaanesh army leaning more towards the lord of change for back story and Army play but using the fun Slaanesh colors.
I am excited to see someone else working on WOC as well and will keep me in line to get these puppies done.
Also for anyone interested this is the 1500 point list I am working towards (Credit to Boss Salvage and Johnny-Crass for their help)
Sorcerer Lord - level 4, talisman of preservation, infernal puppet = 350
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also a few more points to touch base on, I am a huge reader and love armies based on old lore and since this is a Fantasy based army, I am going to base them on "The Lost Children" of Isstvan V....Making them sort of a forlorn army passed thru the ages who were very unsure of how they fell and without knowing fell into the dark graces of the Chaos Gods for reasons of their own which will come into play later.
What do you all think? I really enjoyed the story think i could use my own creative mind to explain the spin on why they are the way they are and what may have been the cause of their fall.
I like your Lost Children of Istvaan V idea, and it does make sense. Chaos does weird things, even if they are in different dimensions or time periods, although I think your moreso running for the good intentions but evil ending. Me I'm splicing in a little old fluff by having my army led by a chaos astartes. Also excellent painting of a dark purple, never thought about using washes in such a manner.
@Aegis I am going for more of a slow turn towards chaos with my storyline touching base on just how the entire army happened to fall into such power and out of favor of the beloved home.
@Eirikr I can not take all the credit for the development of this paint method Guita was the one who I got the original idea from, but the recipe is base white, the wash all the areas you want purple with Leviathan Purple wash until you
have your desired shade of purple (be somewhat generous with the wash) the go over the entire ares with Devlan Mudd Wash for the darker look then hit the recesses with Badab Black Wash and you have this desired look!
@Logg_Frog Thanks I really have been trying
@Skalk I will make sure to get them done so you can see the finished product.
@JD Thanks man, I want to see your necrons up soon as well!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I was thinking since the "Lost Children" happened in lore of the 40k universe it would make sense that it happened in fantasy. Therefore it would make sense of why there is no real record of it happening and only exists in stories..I am under the impression that Fantasy happened Aeons before the 40k universe. (Or that is how i like to think it happened)
Aye those were the good old days. YOu could really do some crazy stuff with chaos back then. From the rumors such things may be returning soon. I personaly am getting ready to start a WOC force my self and am loving your progress here.
@Thenewmexicangeneral Well good luck, the knights can be kind of a B**** to put together but are beautiful models and I am excited to see what all happens with Chaos!
So today on top of getting 2/3 of my army in the mail and getting a few packages out to people I have traded with. I was able to actually finish another one of my horses and if I can finish my Graphic Design homework then should be able to finish the final 3!
I had a few details and highlighting to do and after taking pictures went back and fixed a few things I saw wrong (Sadly I was not able to take pictures after the repair)
This weekend I should have most of my work done and should not have too much of an issue starting the finishing touches of my riders! Yet I will say I always plan for the stars and usually barely clear the ocean since I have so many things I always find myself halfway focusing on.
I am also working on putting down some new ideas into my back story and should have a written copy of the basic Idea posted soon.
As usual I love all C&C and welcome it.
I also need some ideas on how to do my swords for my riders because I want them to have a magic color to them.
@Buttlerthepug I am going to do it in a charred forest/wasteland motif so dark gray rocks with pieces of wood that looks burnt, but ill wait a while till I am able to do the bases so I can have all the materials!
So a little update on my work...I was able to beat the odds and fully finish all 5 steeds and will post pictures tmrw for you all to see! I am really happy with how they all turned out and will be working on the riders tmrw...Super stoked to have made so much progress!
So as I promised as soon as I was finished with classes today I came home and set everything up and took pictures of all the finished steeds! I need to find a better way to take pictures or something because I just don't think it is throwing out the detail and feeling behind each model, so if anyone has any suggestions throw them my way please!
So here are the 5 finished steeds and tonight I will be working on the riders!
I also want to throw out a shout out to jmpnfool for a successful trade and recommended that if you have a chance to trade with this guy do it because it was very easy and done quickly!
But otherwise here are the photos of my babies all painted and stuff!
So I am gonna be unable to post pictures for a little bit as we are switching internet providers and have yet to get them to hook us back up so I will have to check via phone as I am now, but that is going to limit my ability to update photos :[/i](
But the good news is that tonight I finished the riders bodies, [everything minus arms and pauldrons) and will be glueing the, to their respectable steeds and should be able to finish the arms tmrw at least for a few of not all of them.
I did have to lighten my riders up alot because I had gone a little too dark when I painted the, so I made a mixture of 1:1:1 leviathen puprle, bleached bone and water and applied it to add a little pop to the models before I washed them again and got a pretty good turnout, the colors seem to now match and that makes me alot happier.
Well I hope to be able to upload photos soon but until then or my next update thanks for looking
Those steeds are amazing. Such great work here. Sorry to hear your ISP switch has you offline at the moment... but that's just more time to work and post a *huge* update when you're back up and running.
Well for a textual update 5/5 Knights are complete [Minus bases) and I will be begin building the next part of my army tmrw or Wednesday...I do start work again tomorrow so I will be losing a few hours of painting time but I should be ok.
One question I will ask is do you all think I should start worki g on warriors or Hounds next? I am at a stalemate for which to begin next so which would you rather see next...
Also internet should be back up tmrw so I should be able to put up pictures of the finished knights for all to enjoy.
So in celebration of this and the fact that I have had to keep you all in the dark for far too long I am going to do a MEGA post! Complete with pictures and small blurbs from this dark time!
So I am going to do two posts, one with the work up to my finished products and one of the kinda artsy photo's I took today to give the knights the real zeal they deserve.
So this last weekend was all about me going thru the steps and putting in the level of detail work I wanted people to see on my army. I decided after much debate to go with a sort of "Changing" Aspect to the weapons & Armor to give them a supernatural feeling and show somewhat where the faith of this army lies.
I went "Hawk turquoise" and decided to thin it down 1:1 and at points mix in a little "Bleached bone" for a light touch in certain areas. The Demon shield was one of the areas I spent most of my time because I had high expectations for how I wanted it to look in the Finished Product.
I got one knight finished my first knight and then another three done the second knight, I first thought I had finished all the Knights, but upon further inspection realized the musician was not up to the same level and was missing his pop I tried to give each of them so I placed him back on my workbench where he will be getting a little more attention before he is photo ready!
Ok now for the finished products of my blood(There was blood) Sweat, and plenty of tears!
I wanted the pictures to kinda have this were off to war feeling so after a bit of walking found a rock wall with a little ledge on it and began to take some shots of the Knights as if they were riding along a mountain pass. I also wanted them to be seen with some natural light so you would have a good Idea what they would look like when they were seen on the table top.
I want to thank you all for following me this far and hope you Enjoy!
@Johnny-Crass I have had serious thoughts about what to put on there, but i do not have the best faith in my free hand to not just totally F*** that banner up sadly :( I thought about a roman numeric V for the banner, but as I said I am not sure what to do about it and it came out so pretty with its original color!
@Selvaggio Thanks, I really have been trying to deliver good work, I know it could be alot better and I just need to work harder to get there
@th3maninblk Yeah washes are sometimes a little crazy to work with and it being my first time working with them to this extent i expected a little issues, but I was not at all upset with the way the colors came out.
Do what I did with my empire banners (shameless plug as I just posted updates two days ago). I needed anchors on my banners so I got my idea then painted about 30 of em on the bottom of my movement tray. By that point I got the shape and feel down and they are turning out great.
Tonight before I went to bed, I was able to put the finishing touched on the horn and last two pauldrons and finish the last knight and officially complete my first entire full squad!!! A full 240 points of my 1500 have been finished and now sit nicely on my shelf!
I will be starting my first 12 man box of warriors tomorrow and will be cutting from the sprue and filing away unwanted notches and lines.
I will upload some photos of the work and will see you all tomorrow
The purple is looking really good and I like how the metallic trim contrasts against it. And I have to say that even though I'll never switch (becasue I have ... 30? painted Chaos Knights) I like the new scale a lot better, they seem more realistic than the older range.
So before I jumped into some Stats Homework that's due tmrw I decided to take a break and get my warriors started so that I had no excuse not to start building them tonight and keep my progress with the project up.
Hopefully I will throw some more photo's of my progress up later tonight if I can finish this work and ditch this headache
@Johnny-Crass Basing will come when all 1500 points are finished being painted...I have a bad habit of changing my basing theme halfway thru an army so, now I wait till they are all done and then base them in one fell swoop!
I get the same color and texture across the entire army and keep myself from changing things!
I am working on my WOC army and wanted to go with a dark rock look for my bases that kinda gave the idea of the army walking across a wasteland, I wanted like bits of dead looking wood to set on the bases and just some small rocks to base with.
So any links or tutorial you all may know of please throw my way because as much as I have looked I have found nothing of real substance. Also anywhere you know where I can buy rock basing material for cheap that is of good quality would also do me wonders!
So my Friday has been pretty productive and I thought I would give an update to how much I was able to get done while watching the last season of Greek.
@Johnny-Crass Thanks, I still have a lot to do but I was happy with their progress tonight and hopefully will get this 12 done relatively quick so that they can stand beside their Knightly Brothers!
I was not able to get any where near as much done as I would have liked but I did make some progress. I darkened the Pelts and took a shot of what I have in mind for them to look like.
Loving the look of the pure wash purple. Very tempted to try that out myself. I did something similar when I did Army of the Dead for LoTR. Only difference is I did washes of Purple, Black, and then Purple again because I liked the darker look.
You've progressed loads since I last looked in, everything is looking very nice.
For rocks you could use small bits of cork or slate. For the slate wash before glueing and don't apply the glue to the slate only to the base, I found out the hard way and got some dust in my super glue and it went rock hard
I've not tried cork myself but seen loads of people use it for small rocks.
I was looking at Chaoslords Army and I love what he did with their bases and as soon as he gets back to me hopefully he can throw me his Recipe.
But worse case I am going to go with cork, I may even use it to make the bits of burnt wood that will litter the larger bases. I also may put just a wee bit of static grass just for an offset.
Throwing up my update on the status of the warriors. I have most of their armor done but I still have to do some highlighting, details and a little touch up work. After I finish that which should be tonight I will prime and move onto doing their heads. Which I should be able to crank out in a single night of dedicated work/painting.
Been the doorman for raves and parties 6 nights in a row and the tournament is in 21 days. I only have 50 halberds and a warrior priest left but it is going slowly.
@Johnny-Crass I do when I have to work directly after wards. I am a Business Major and our rule is appearance is everything in the eyes of the customer (and the manager)
But on a better note, i was able to jot done the build-up to my fluff and after a little tweaking will post it tonight. It is not much but hey its a start.
Here is what I have so far, I would really like to hear what you all think because this will be a very fluff driven army.
Spoiler:
The Lost Children of Istvaan, The 5th Legion
"This is not a story told often, for those that speak of it are usually branded a heretic and carried away to some unknown fate by an Inquisitor. I myself had to read this story in the dark passages of the library located near the bottom of the ship to avoid being caught and even now by retelling it to you risk the fury of the Ordo Herectus, but I shall continue regardless for we have already seen what happens when knowledge is kept secret and a blindfold is put over the eyes of those who are here to protect us. This is a story of retribution and power that sets the stage for the divide of the Imperium thousands of years before our own Horus fell from grace and betrayed the God Emperor. I speak of that horrid place we have heard of only in nightmares where brother fought brother and covered the land in betrayal and blood. This is the story of Istvaan, "Lost Children" and the 5th Legion............"
Iterator Dominicus Solen
What once was a beautiful land full of wisdom and grace, would one day become what many different tongues would translate too "a desolate wasteland", one of fear and destruction, one littered with corruption, because at one point or another everything Changes.
Istvaan was a land of prosper, some would even call it "The pinnacle of a peaceful nation" and it was the truth. Not that you would know it when looking at it now, but where most kingdoms sought to concur and command Istvaan stayed different and kept its self very accepting. This ideal and prosper the land shared under this rule was rewarded by city after city, and village after village joining the kingdom extending its reaches and allowing even more people to feel the safety of a full belly, heavier wallet and a real feeling of peace with thy neighbor.
Yet with every story there is a catch and this one is no different.
The kingdom grew very large very quick quick because so many people were ready and willing to cast away the shackles of fear and embrace peace, but with the rapid growth the monarch needed more people to help him better run the country and watch the different regions. Yet as any one knows, the more you have of something, the easier it is for something wrong to avoid your eye.
Also Here are the pictures of the finished bodies!
Went home to Virginia for the weekend so I was not able to paint any, but I was able to stop by my FLGS while home and grab all the stuff needed to do my bases.
I just have a question, What would be the best way to paint all my Ballast Black?
Cutthroatcure wrote:I just have a question, What would be the best way to paint all my Ballast Black?
Not intended to sound sarcastic (preemptive disclaimer because text is the poorest for of communication)
Buy black ballast. I buy mine at a craft store called Michaels and it was a MONSTER bag that will likely last me the rest of my life for like $5. All of my Necromunda, Cult, and newer Death Guard are based w/ it. I cover the base in super glue, takes a few sweeps through a pile of ballast, let dry, drybrush gray, done.
...or did I completely misunderstand the questions?
My issue is I could not find any Black Ballast at my Local craft store and I picked up this set of ballast, so should I just save it for a rainy day and try to find some online or is there a way I could paint it?
That's a tough call. My inclination (becasue let's face it, I'm lazy and want instant results w/ immediate gratification) is to buy some black ballast online, but if you want to make the most of your investment you could try a test of soaking some of your ballast in a homemade (meaning inexpensive) wash of (just guessing) 3 parts black paint to 1 part water? If it doesn't work you're not out anything except a few dabs of paint and a spoonful of ballast.
I made something with some Wash and black spray Paint, Seems to look good and kinda has a unique burnt ground look to it!
I will be uploading some photos soon, My one Knight i decided to test on did not come out the best before I made the mixture so I am doing some repairs to his base first!
Ok Ladies and Gents, I have been super busy with the GF, school, and a business deal i was working on and fell through so I have not had the ideal amount of time to get everything done I was hoping for, but I did get some progress done and I am happy with the results
Also if anyone is playing SWTOR and wants to play with a fun bunch of people PM me and Ill give you my Server..I play Empire only.
So Today I set the goal to finish at least one of my warriors 100% so I had something to go by as I power thru all the rest and I must say it did not come out to shabby IMO.
I got the basing down to where I want it and was quite surprised out how easy the bases should be to do.
Looking good. My only suggestion would be lightening up the horns since at the moment they seem very similar to the leather and fur. Having them pop out more would work wonders I think.
Not extremely white, it just seems like it is almost the same color as the other browns (this might just be the pictures, however). Maybe it will looks different when you have them all lined up and together. Regardless, they are coming along great.
I think it is the camera and lighting that does it, I do have some highlights on them but they seem to get washed out by the lights, I need to invest in a light box.
So after work tonight I was able to get some work done like I wanted and even pushed thru all the way to basing just so I did not just have one lone warrior alone up on the shelf and now I can really see their bases coming together.
I am getting better at doing the V on their shields and think that it really shows that they proudly belong to the V Legion.
I should be able to finish another 2-3 tomorrow and some bases depending on homework since I don't have to work!
Ok guys, been trying to do some serious work on the warriors, got the Warrior Champion finished and set into the ranks.
I just have to finish the weapons for the warriors and then they will be ready for basing and then completion. I am hoping to get them finished today and post an update.
I also tried to do a freehand symbol on the Knights banner and am pretty excited with how it turned out.
So I am here to keep my promise, work/school has been keeping me pretty pumped and with V-day the lady has been a main focus.
I finished my Knights 100% and all I have to do for them is paint their movement tray after I magnetize it. I have all the warriors painted in my first 12 man batch but I still need to base and should be able to do that soon and post pictures.
I am trying to decide whether to do War hounds or Minotaurs next.
I decided to try and freehand the banner, and put their legion on there.
Hopefully now that our chapter of HvZ is done their week long semester game and I am not hunting humans every day, I can get back into some serious painting.
Tonight after a very muddy/rough final mission of HvZ, I was able to come home and finish my first group of warriors!
I did their bases in my theme and am quite happy with how they look all together and after a while I will get around to doing the movement trays once I get the magnet sheet placed in it.
As for the warriors, they signal 16/43 models being completed which only leaves me 27 models left!!!!
All the warriors have their bases magnetized and their legion symbol painted on their shields.
My next step in this project tonight will be to move on yo building my minotaurs and making sure that all the mold lines and edges are filed and presentable. Tomorrow hopefully will turn out to be a somewhat warm day that will allow me to prime them and start the painting process. Even if I just have to get the weapons done while I still develop my skin tone and recipe.
Busted my behind tonight and got my Minotaur Paint Scheme finished...Took me longer then I first expected but after a ton of testing and working it all out, I feel I have a good palette for them.
I will post pictures tomorrow, just been so busy with Stats homework and SWTOR, I have been falling back in my recording and posting duties.
The Minotaur looks boss. And I like the extensive use of washes on the Warriors. The darker purple mixed with the lighter colors of the horns and leathers give them a sort of ethereal look that comes off really well. Unearthly is the word I'm looking for I think!
And then the richer color of the minotaur makes it stand out, but still fits the color scheme with the bits of armor here and there.
I'm looking forward to seeing them all together for the full effect.
I love those minos as well... but I can't help feeling that it would look better with the shoulder plates in that same purple color. Almost seems inconsistent with part of the armor being purple while other parts are metal.
Well the shoulder parts look like they are made of a metal substance where the loin cloth is made of well cloth and the bracers seem made of leather. I just thought that making sheets of metal purple would seem beyond the minotaurs thinking...They only have access to purple cloth because of the warriors, but metal is metal.
At least that was my thought, today I will be finishing my 2nd minotaur out of 7, I think he is looking somewhat better as I am getting the hang of painting them.
I spent my night tonight not only finishing the base of my second minotaur, but also picking foam out of my pluck-able army transport so what I have complete have their nice safe foamy transport ready for them to show my friends back home!
They will look even better when I drop Throgg in with them!
@Git I really enjoy using it and I have gotten it down where I can fly thru some basing!
@Casey I would love to have painted some this weekend but I have been doing a drug study that requires me to be in the study house during the weekend, This is the last weekend though.
@Giraffe Thanks man, I am getting excited, once I do their movement base I will be even more excited, I just have to prime the rest and start slamming out the paint time.
Did a few steps on all the warhounds, I was able to lighten the skin and begin the highlights on the fur, Then I got half of them done with the base for the bones. Tomorrow I should be able to finish the bones and highlights and possibly start on the bases for the more brightly colored parts (Spots, Worms, ETC)
I may not finish the entire army by summer now but I sure as heck am gonna try to get as much as I can done, When I get the hounds done, I intend to have a "Whats done so far" photo taken and posted for all to see and to follow up with my heading at the start of this P&M.
I apologize for the crappy photo quality, but it is 2 a.m. my time and I am using my droid phone and a desk lamp.
So finally I was able to get some photos up of the work I have been doing lately.
I have been so super busy with both working 7 am - 3 pm every day, moving an entire house and dealing with the issues of my family. Regardless I have been in a super hobby mood lately and have been trying to do a little work every night whether before bed or simply right after work to just keep progress moving forward. I went to my FLGS and they finally had the magnetic strips for the movement trays so I was able to finally begind/finish some work on those. I am planning on taking a full army set of photo's with the finished based and finished models up to this point, I hope to do that soon but life has a habit of getting in the way.
This is the first flocked movement tray I have ever done and I don't feel like I did a horrible job with it. The one thing I do hate is that the Warhound models in the photos show where they were connected and that annoys the piss out of me.
I also have been working a ton on my Diablo III characters so that has also been a time sink that I do not regret
I am working on some Malifaux models currently, but I did prime my Sorcerer Lord and should begin some work on him soon. When I do I intend to grace you all with some more photos. I have been doing some make shift photo sessions and have been using the sun out side and a local grill for a stand. One day I hope to have a much better camera then the one on my phone that I currently use. (Which is not horrible in the first place)
I really like the color scheme on the Warhounds. I have somehting very similar on my Chaos Warriors. It's a very solid color scheme and it works every time. Clean lines and excellent contrast. Those are well done and I like them a lot.
Hey, CtC, just had a chance to look through some of your blog. I'll have to come back and look a little more closely, but I can tell you that I like your use of purple on the warriors. I don't really think of purple when I think of chaos, but I think it works really well in your army. And I really like the hounds. Very nice job painting and the bases look great!
Hey guys been super busy, I have been doing some model work but real work has been draining me.
But in order to keep some stuff moving forward in the hobby world, i have started a Malifaux Painting Competition that
I would love for a lot of people to participate in!
So spent almost all day Sunday finishing the Alien Quadrology with the GF and painting my Sorc Lord!
I have finished a lot in this army and to complete my 1500 point list all I need to do is add/ paint Throgg and do 11 more Warrior + Standard Bearer so its doable~
This is Taladar - a powerful Sorcerer who helped damn an entire town and led them on their quest to purge the rest of Istvaan V of its inhabitants and give the land the dark history it is known for..
