Some news by Romanus over at Warseer:
Can confim no Necrons or Nid next month, however there is the release of the Necron and Vampire Counts Battalion Box sets along with something called the Deathknell watch for fantasy, other then that some interesting Black Library releases and some 40k combo kits (Tac Squad and Drop Pod etc) for 40k, all the rest is unfortunatley LOTR.
Cheers,
Rom
Deathknell seems to be the rumoured new Fantasy Fortress:
Eldargal wrote:There has been a new fortress kit ready for some time, apparently. I've heard of its existence from a couple of sources but nothing about an imminent release. There is a lot of terrain ready to go into production that hasn't been released, apparently.
Harry wrote:I heard there was a new much more warhammery 'Mighty fortress' coming... heard that over a year ago .... then heard it was done. Then didn't hear anything else about it.
Not sure skullvane Manse wouldn't be described as a much more Warhammery fortress?
(So have wondered if that was it?)
I heard they would be making more individual pieces rather than one generic fortress.
So maybe Skullvane is the first of a number of similar pieces?
But then again you cant play a proper siege game with Skullvane Manse. (Cool though it is.)
I heard that the Blood in the Badlands was released earlier than expected and that it originally had another scenery kit planned for release with it.
I heard that it was originally planned for March next year (2012)
I heard that is when the next scenery is still being released.
I heard a name for this scenery (from a top quality source of fine rumours and an all round good chap ) ...
... it sounds like a 'fort' to me.
Or at the very least a Watchtower of some kind ..... maybe with a bell ?
Maybe that's why the Skullvane Tower has a bridge leading nowhere: Combines with this kit. Just a guess though.

Combo-Kits?
Curious ... I was just recently talking to some GW-staffers about that. They said they dont see those coming back in the near-future. I wouldnt mind seeing some cool ones though ...

One point someone on Warseer raised was that these peices might all fit into one huge terrain peice. Like, the Skullvane tower has a walkway to nowhere. Which might 'plug into' the Fortress, the Garden of Morr might fit inside it, etc.

Actually, the "bronze guardian" is a signalling device. The army occupying the tower is allowed to reroll the scatter dice 8only this dice, not the d6 or artillery dice), enemy scouts can't be started within 24" then. There are some other nice rules for the tower.
The skull well is on the bottom floor. Can be used separately if you don't glue the tower to the floor.

GW seems to always release the same total volume of things for any one of their games in any given year. In years like this 40K year, its like any other, delayed gratification with release for any one game just more tightly clustered and larger periods of nothing new.
GW rejected my concept for a terrain piece, they said there weren't enough spikes:

I am very disappointed by the lack of skulls on this one. And I wish they would come out with a sprue to chaos our fantasy buildings with spikes and more skulls!
All kidding aside, I hate the GW design philosophy of "More SKULLS!" Its like the SNL cowbell skit, just substitute cowbell with skulls. As mentioned earlier, how about some elven towers? Or a dwarven piece? Anything, but yet another skull laden, uninspiring empire piece. How about a lizardman temple? Please?
I can't wait for the new castle walls and keep that come mounted on a skull so big they have to make a special skull laden realms addition to fit it. That will be skulliscious!

Post by: aka_mythos
What bugs me about the terrain is that so many of them are just towers. The graveyard was a cool set, but how many towers do we really need? In the least GW could have come up with actual themes for the different towers... like have different ones themed to a couple of different races. Or even a set designed to interconnect to build a fortress.
44067
Post by: DarkStarSabre
Dear GW.
If reading this, please produce Lizardmen scenery.
I would give you all my monies. For life.
As much as I appreciate fantasy scenery, the skulls are a bit OTT on everything as of late. What happened to things like the chapel? Where there were no skulls! Why can't we have some generic, non-Empire, non-skull bits? Surely every battle isn't in the Empire....hell, even the starter box isn't set there. I can't see half this scenery being remotely useful or thematic with the IoB armies...which is a shame because Game + Scenery is a logical step for a buyer.

That is one bad piece of terrain.
What really annoys me is that GW claims that they have a very limited ability to produce plastic models because they only have a few plastic injection machines and the molds are very costly to produce. Then they produce stuff like skulltower. I think in reality they just want to get you to spend money on aspects of the hobby other than miniatures. I hope that they find that people will not buy this junk.
Also I have heard BS excuses about the prices of plastic figures being high because plastic is an oil based product and is thus expensive. We can see this is blatantly false as there is an enormous amount of plastic in kits like the tower and the price is not much more than a box of 10 troops.

Doesn't everyone adorn their towers with the skulls of slain giants? And if you have slain no giants, carve some skulls out of solid stone so you look intimidating.
Wouldn't you all rage if you found out that Matt Ward was responsible for all the skulls! It's almost too funny to be wrong.
I'll stick with Hirst Arts molds. Infinite customization, a proper realistic look, and a lifetimes worth of hobby to do.

What are they thinking with all these useless towers and bulk pieces? Sure, cover is great, but I can use piled up text books if that's all I need. Ruins are what I imagine to be a common sight on the battlefield, and they're much harder to make.

This terrain inspires me to like their older range of scenery simply out of spite for the new stuff.
Honestly without the two-inch skulls on the side of that watchtower I would buy it as generic terrain but unfortunately GW feel the need to watermark every new piece of terrain that comes out with massive bloody skulls. That is all the skulls are: watermarks.

Yep. I bought the Skullvane Manse thinking I could probably just sand down or cover up most of the skulls and have an interesting terrain piece that was a bit different. I knew it would be a fair bit of work... But as soon as I opened up the box and saw just how much surface area the skulls covered, and how they were just effin everywhere, even more than I had seen in photos. Well, it's still in the box.
Now seeing this tower made up of recycled parts has confirmed my feeling that I won't be getting anymore GW terrain unless there's a major change in their design department.

Guys, you got it all wrong. All that is on the tower is needed. Skulls on the side to say "THIS IS GAMES WORKSHOP!!!!!" and the skeleton on top is the most important part. Not sure skullvane Manse wouldn't be described as a much more Warhammery fortress?
(So have wondered if that was it?)
I heard they would be making more individual pieces rather than one generic fortress.
So maybe Skullvane is the first of a number of similar pieces?
Well this piece IS fairly similar you have to admit.
I am not sure what to expect.
As I said Skullvane could easily be the more 'Warhammery fortress' I heard about.
I heard about it at roughly the same time as the grave far which we have seen.
As far as I know there are no plans to replace the current "Mighty Fortress".
But I am still expecting some more scenery.
