So I have been figuring out how to do a Plog or more what to put in it.
I have a number of projects that are in various stages, and it has always felt strange to jump in with them. That is not to say that my various other projects won't get some lime light. But I wanted to start this Plog with something new.
So as a belated Xmas gift I received One of Tor Gamings Britananian starter cans
In the can are 3 Grenadiers
9 Troopers
and 2 Dragoons
I am very pleased with the quality of the models. Lots of character and details. So setting about cleaning mold lines and such. Green stuff and pinning just to make sure they stay together. Tomorrow I will undercoat them and start painting.
So a start. Then maybe move on to the pile of recently stripped Guardsmen...
(edit: hopefully Images work!(Images resized!))

oooohhhhhh.... i will follow this with great interest.... i love those minis too...but my boxes are so full already.... so no future buys on relics atm will happen... so i will look forward to see you fullfill my dreams^^

I will do my best Viktor! (More so now I know how to upload photos!) I have worked out how to achieve the scheme I am going to use, using a trusty old Marauder I had in my bits box.
So should get that started soon!

Small up date.
Undercoated
Basecoated for wood and "flesh" (Sackcloth sounds wrong lol!)
Will add more as I complete them.
37798
Post by: alphaomega
A quick update (I have also started the Troopers, but they will come later on!)
More work on basecoats. Blue, white, brass. Yeah I guess a little French styled...
Sack-flesh almost complete! As well as highlights and a few washes applied, mainly to the brass areas.
And showing the start of a Trooper
The flesh at base coat lot of work to do!
The flesh starts with an Iyanden Darksun, then gets a thin coat of Desert Yellow, then a thin coat of Kommando Khaki and a light dry brush of Bleached Bone. Then a thin wash of Ogryn Flesh and once dry a heavier wash of 1:1:1 Devlin Mud, Gryphonne Sepia and Water!

these look really cool already... and funny... and bizarre...^^ somehow your last two updates escaped me... puzzling, as i am subscribed but i didn´t see them...well... now i am up to date^^

I worked my way through the many 100s of updates on yours the other night Vik! Sometimes there are benefits to insomnia .
Glad you like them, there is a lot of work to get done yet and a few more being ordered soon... It is nice to be able to relax and paint for once!

i sometimes get surprised as to how many words i must have already hammered into my and other threads already... i am reaching page 155... who in his right mind (that is the tricky part just there^^) would have guessed^^
i hope you have fun doing them... it wont be too long till i get my dose of these lil fellas too^^

You Plog is a pretty amazing one in all honesty!
Can't wait to see what you do with the Britananian puppets. I just need to decide if I want to get another Starer can or just a few blisters, decisions, decisions...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
ohoh... cant help you decide there.. for me the snipers look very interesting... also i´ve read that new designs are coming along... so better wait acoupla days before finalizing an order... how many minis does a Britananian amry need anyway...?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
From the new mini rules two or more small units (so Troopers 6 to 9 and 3 Grenadiers for example).
Think it my be a Hero and a few other bits to be honest
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well...these then would make sense...only troops would be a bit dull all in all...

So an update. After not sleeping most of the week and having to start packing things away it has been quite nice to actually get started on the Troopers Properly and to start detailing the the rest.
So here we are, Grenadiers and Dragoons with some added details
The same again, but showing them from a slightly better angle! The Grenadiers at least
Troopers! At last you are beyond being basecoated!
Problem with being so pale is you reflect natural light so well :( But on the other hand, all the troopers are now fully fleshed out
Next up is to do the blue coats, white stripes and brass buttons (but for the eyes dark silver I think!)

And another small update. I think I would have got another one done if it hadn't been for the damn snow shower!
Anyway I managed to get all the flesh done so it was on to getting coats prepared.
Okay so first is showing three Troopers from the front, Necron Abyss as a nice thin even coat over all the coats.
Just showing one Trooper from behind, just to give you and idea (and so later on I can remember how I high light them...), one for each highlight shall be added I think.
This last one is a little blury but it makes me smila The look on the Space Wolves face and the little girl looking away from the troopers sneaking up on her...
More tomorrow!

those lil puppets are in some way exactly the the same way charming as my robots are... cuteness with an edge...
and lol... it is funny how some pics get such a scenic character after you can see the whole on screen... that SW chap is very funny to see^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
It is the Look and hear me rawr! expression I think
And I know what you mean. Your robots also have that Neo-Victorian awsomeness! If you ever did get them cast up I would happily pick up a few (maybe add them to some cowboy stuff and find some suitable rules for steampunk gang games hmmm...). Puppets and robots are both very kool
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
Puppets and robots are both very kool
THAT!^^ for me he looks like:" WTF"... who let those puppets of their strings...? well plans are under way to make them castable... probably this will take a while...but i am atm feeling rather good about that idea... and that game idea... sounds like a toystory version of necromunda^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
It kind of does. Mind I think I have been reading too much Steampunk fiction of late. Might have to sit down and write some Stichpunk fiction... Might be a profit in it
And awesome, if you do get them cast I would happily pick a few up, look like something that would be very rewarding to paint
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
make that more...rather easy to paint...they are pretty blocky...kind of a plastic card version of lego bricks^^
as for steampunk fiction... care to name a few you found a good read? i recently only ever read my fist novel... george mann´s "affinity bridge" ... which i will shortly continue to follow in his other two books as well... nice sherlock holmes inspired steampunk story... not that much of a surprise but it has lots of interesting ingredients...
and stitchpunk....you could start by making up some fullf of your recent puppets^^
i would like to read something new like this...will this involve anything voodoo like?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That is an idea on the voodoo and also fluff for the blue coats.
May have to think about names for stuff the next few days.
The series I am currently reading is Clockwork Century by Cherie Priest, American Civil war, Steampunk warmachines and airships. And lots of Zombies too! Good reads. Also the Leviathan Series by Scott Westerfeld, more young teen fiction, but still very well written. Mutant animals vs Steam/Dieselpunk Robots in a WW1 setting!
Heard some good things about Tales of Ketty Jay too. Retribution falls and The Black Lung Captain are the ones that spring to mind.
The George Mann Series look like good reads too!
And yeah chunky models are sometimes nicer to work with (hell one of the reasons Space Marines sell well!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
thanks for the list mate!... will need soon some new food for reading time! so i will then start with a new series... it is always a good decision to outbranch... i am a very passionate fan of terry pratchett...but sadly his productivity has slwed due to his illness...which is really no wonder...
if i could highlight i bet these could look way better...but alas i am still learning... so^^ yep SM sell pretty well...tho they grew a bit old on me...started too with a SM army...but it never got finished...lol...so do my IG...but in a more interesting way^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Ah but your project is an alternate Guardsman army so it is all good. I will return to my Guard in time and get them repainted for the final time! They are just stripping down for now.
As for my Marine army pretty much all completely done, about 3 squads I need to fully finish then army wide detailing. But alas no drive to do them at present!
On the reading front I have been reading mainly Black Library stuff, but I don't know all gone a bit stale at present.
But as they say a change is as good as a rest
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
But as they say a change is as good as a rest
...never fully understood that one...has a very sarcastic ring to it^^
i haven´t read any 40k books yet... always wanted to read the commissar cain storyline, but they charge atm too much for these ar ebay...so won´t happen soonish...
well i was quite ambitious when i first started... went way overboard and tried to make a huge army for my first one... i could probably field at least 3-5 tacticals and then about 20 if not more termies...but i have only one rhino and one predator...they are in desperate need to be taken cared for...horribly job has been done of the previous owner... and then jumppack marines...and lots of bikes...but i lost interest in them...one day i might revisit them too...probably to make them for my sons...
as for alternative guardsmen...well fatty...he insists to use them as count as SM... in a way i like that, but guardsmen i think would be better tho in my opinion...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I always thought it was a statement of sarcasm too. But can't help but feel that I didn't want to give up my hobby, and rather than take a break from it I started something different
Commissar Cain is a good arc of stories, nice with added humour and a bit of passion. Good reads
I was like that with my Chaos Army for Fantasy, thought big and then hated it :(
And what about using the robots as Storm Troopers? They are bigger and badder than normal Guardsmen
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i too have thought of using them as counts as stormtoopers...really it is kind of obvious..the gear atm i give them just screams vets/stromtoopers ...one or the other...^^
yep...bringing too much of a good thing together can later on totally hamper your spirit...so it is a good decision to make a sideproject...even if said side project turns out to be another major one^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I think that would be best. Queen Viktoria's Toy Soldiers (More so as that is trooper slang for StormTroopers!). ^^
And yeah I have been steadidly working on Imperial 40k stuff since 2005. Need a break I guess So Britananian puppets and well maybe more Relic stuff after!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i have to say i am not that into the other factions of relic...they are from a whole different field of artistic ideas... somehow the rest looks like malifaux and hordes too much for my taste... but the Britananian are so unique that i like them for what they are cute and deadly^^
well it is almost past half three in the morning...time for me to take some sleep...^^
cheers, vik

Post by: alphaomega
Okay quite a big update today.
All the coats have been done blue! A fair few layers and the odd wash, but the Puppet army is definitely on the march to completion!
First up we have troopers painted up from last nights blue undercoat, The blue has been done with Necron Abyss, followed by Stormy Blue (Vallejo Game Colour) followed by a Asurmen Blue wash. This has then been highlighted with Regal Blue, Regal + Enchanted Blue 1:1 mix, then washed again. Highlight with Enchanted.
More shots of the troopers.
The same work has been done on the Grenadiers, Also more metal work, highlight to brass and to the botlgun metal too.
The same is pretty much true of the Dragoons, almost ready to be based now. As can be seen I have used some Model Railway Balst, which has been painted grey after the undercoat, I will also be applying green mixed flock over a Khemri Brown Basecoat, to give a highland grass plain look.
And finally we have the Rifles/Muskets for the troopers. First time I have actually worked on wood grain. It still needs a wash to darken it but that is about all. And the threads need to be done too.
There will be a bit of a conversion hopefully by the end of the week too! Automatically Appended Next Post: Do I go all the way to white or stick with the off white that is Fortress Grey? Will post pictures in the morning after I have slept on it I think.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
looking good there tho i can´t really tell for details here as the light is a bit harsh...^^sorry^^
as for the white issue? what for? i am a bit lost it seems...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I need to pick up a light box at some point, lighting is either too bright or dark at present :/ Next time I get paid I think I will pick up a lamp and some materials I think. So no worries on the lighting front ^^.
As for the white, sleeves and sashes. Just to add a little bit of sport colouring
But hopefully these will give you an idea of what the finished army will look like.
First up Grenadiers!
And the Dragoons!
(See what I mean by the lighting, really will have to invest in a lamp and light box soon!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yep...that is truly the right way to go for making good pics... i myself will shortly have to do so too...
and now i see what you´ve ment...
the wood seems rather good from what can be seen of that pistol there in the second pic...
as for the white issue...hmmm...probably first use the grey and then use the white for highlights...
the brass looks very nice! how do you want to do the eyes that are not buttons?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
The eyes that arn't buttons are just done the same as the thread work, Shadow Grey. Followed with the mixed wash it seems to do the job. I did try using Graveyard Earth, it just blended in with the flesh too much. Mind there are a few bits (the odd eye and some threads) I need to tidy up having seen the photos
And yeah a thin white highlight is what I am thinking, just not enough contrast with the blue yet
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
you could even use ice blue as a sort of mixed highlight...i think that could work too as a very thin line...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I like your thinking Vik, I may give that ago. That and I get to play with OSL a little on the Royal Guard (hopefully coming tomorrow or Wednesday!). Also working out what I need for a light box so soon there should be much better photos too!
Very rewarding to actually have painted the core of an army quite quickly and to a not so bad standard... Still think I need to replace a brush or two, some of them have lost the point making small highlights harder to paint.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yep...brushes without points... seems as if you had a goo look into my arsenal^^
OSL... yep that would be nice too... in fact i thought that some of the lil puppets should have some kind of sparkley eye...that´s why i asked about the non buttoned eye in the first place...
and to a not so bad standard
aye
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Why thank you My ego has had a boost
Most of the button eyes got an undercoat of Turquoise which has made them have a slight glow, I went for verdigris but it works well ^^
I have a couple of brushes with points, but not a decent detail one I am going to have to go brush shopping soon! Shame that there isn't a GW round the corner here :( Or a hobby shop. *sighs*
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
somehow i only ever bought a GW brush and it didn´t last very long with me... it is probably the way how i paint that the tips dont last that long...but i am not that sold on GW brushes... have you tried getting brushes only ...ebay perhaps?
when you have set up that lighting tent of yours i want so see some good detailshots of the eyes if possible... i need to geta glow effect for my robts... i think that would help them come along better...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah sure
And they don't tend to last long, I will see if I can pick up some brushes for fine detail, of a fine quality soon. The one I have will last, just a bit of a pain in the arse
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well if it pains you at that place, there is no wonder why the tips don´t last...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
xD That would be true
I guess I might have to go and find some better than GW brush. Might give the Army Painter ones a trial, within my price range!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
it is rather a downer that you have no artshop near you, as you said... i got a nice 0/20 brush...could have even got me 0/30 brush (but i didn´t want to over do it then...) for about 5€s... i bet at ebay you will get someting similar too... well i have to call it a night for now...cheers, vik
37798

Thanks for the brush tips Vik Will head out to Northampton at some point
Have a good sleep!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
So Re-enforcements came today
Another starter can and a Royal Guard. This has led to some conversions, a banner bearer and a drummer and some arm swaps on the Royal Guard.
In total I now have 16 Troopers, 6 Grenadiers, 4 Dragoons, a Colour Party and a Royal Guard. Not a huge army, but it is one that I am going to work hard to complete!
Will post some construction pictures later! Automatically Appended Next Post: Home made Banner, and Drummer with converted Royal Guard
Not managed to get much painting done today, been too cold, but did manage to get command models started
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
that standard bearer looks very fine!! one thing tho, the ball at the end is a bit too big...maybe a tip of a spear?
and the drummer...lovley!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That is what I was thinking. The ball was more a counter weight while the green stuff cured Going to be popped off in the morning and replaced with a spear tip... I think I have a few in the Empire bits box
And thanks, the drum really came together nicely Strange things you can do with a spare missile launcher end, some sting and green stuff ^^
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
ohhhh...this now needs some closer inspections... namley...more detailed pics^^
Going to be popped off in the morning and replaced with a spear tip... I think I have a few in the Empire bits box
YES!!!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Detailed Pics I will try in the morning should be able to get some close ups of the Drum with some better light! And I found a spear tip (I used most of them seeing as I have a block of spearmen...) So I shall replace that tonight
^^
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
good! something to look forward to tomorrow then^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I hope it don't disappoint! I guess it might work if I took pictures in the Daylight... xD
Mind I also have more Troopers, Grenadiers, Dragoons to build tomorrow too! Fun times
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
looks that way...^^
and i don´t think disapointment is heading my way from your direction...
anyway... need to call it a night again...*yawn* cheers, vik
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Night Vik!
And an improved Standard
A little bit of a mould line I missed but that will be cleaned off come spray painting.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
with that speartip he could not just be a standard bearer but also a sarge as well... they did carry a big spear with them to strike down any retreating soldiers for that purpose... in germany the quartermaster is also named "speiß" which translates into spear...because of that use...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That is useful to know Viktor
The empire bits get such a lot of use. Very versatile kits for making all sorts of things, from personalising Guard Vets to making Henchmen and adding much needed details here and there
Will take some up close photos of the drum soon, been a little busy cleaning the rest of a starter can worth of models for construction Automatically Appended Next Post: And update time!
I promised that I would get some close ups of the drum and have tried my best (and then discovered that more filling was needed so the one that will be posted is not the final version, the final is a lot smoother!)
So here it is. Built from the end of a IG missile launcher tube, green stuff and some black cotton, I think it has came out rather well Should look a million times better when painted (more so as it has been filed smooth!)
Because the lighting was a little better today I decided to take some pictures of the finished stuff (mind You only notice bits you have missed when you take photos! So a little bit more work too do...)
Grenadiers
Grenadier 1
Grenadier 2
Grenadier 3
Dragoons
Dragoon 1
Dragoon 2
The troopers are occupying my painting time mostly, getting details and guns finished, so hopefully tomorrow some more bits painted.
Then there is more construction to come...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
lol...look in my sig...the quote from tortured robot...
amd the soldiers are really cute... tho now i have to ask ye...you as an english man...why did you not choose to make them as redcoats? or if that is a no go...why not at least make them greencoats like irish^^...
they do look all in blue rather like "frogs" ...(thought that was a slang version of french...)^^
for the drum i would suggest adding a sort of ring to the upper brim...
otherwise it is a sweet work...those minis could replace for sure the ever trusty stampcollection to draw women into your lair...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Tortured-Robot is very right there!
And yeah I plan to add a bit more to the brim edge Just had to let it all set first. And with painting many things can be covered up and altered!
And yeah "Frogs" is the idea I like the more French style uniform (plus blues do seem less of a used colour in my collection). I did contemplate the Red Coats, as well as Yellow (Dutch?) Uniforms. I googled them before and there are some interesting Uniforms.
http://www.rafaelpardoalmudi.com/images/figures/odd_grossbe/hessed2.jpg
http://www.rafaelpardoalmudi.com/images/figures/odd_grossbe/wurzburg02.jpg (White and red, would have been interesting I think )
But I just had to do the blue Mind I may do some alternatives in the future
Mind it all depends on what I decide to pick up after I have finished the Britanans.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
the white reminds me of austrian troops...they had nice tophats in those times that would look very much like the britanians have... and yellow...hmmm...rather white than yellow in my view...but it all boils down on this...there is only a limited range of possible colors for this army... blue, red, green is even too dark, and yeah white and then yellow...not much more really...brown would have looked shabby... so all in all a good choice!
And yeah I plan to add a bit more to the brim edge Just had to let it all set first. And with painting many things can be covered up and altered!
yes and ...yes...^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah I figured Yellow would have blurred too much with the flesh. Grey and Brown just seemed to shabby and dull for them. Red, Blue and a midtone Green I think would have been good options, even a midtone Purple would have worked (more so with the pale yellow flesh!). White was my second choice, but I figured it made a better edging colour than main one (not because it is a had colour to get a decent coverage and effect with at all.... ^^)
I do think I may try the green on my spare trooper. Just to see what it looks like! Will do that this weekend
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
didn´t you want to make some characters for your army? i think green would be a good character color...
lol...i tried to make a crisp white...took ages and with only very thin paint...but in the end i was rather satisfied...but then my paintscheme would need to do this over and over again...er...^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah I have done it on Apothecary and that is about it xD I tried white army once, never again!
I plan to do the eye the helm of the Royal Guard, in green, might do the helm white too... Would stand out from the troopers a bit more Thanks for the idea!
I think I might do the banner in an inverted Union Jack (so Blue:Red and yellow Cross, maybe!) shall hopefully get that started soon. Just need the temp to be higher :(
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yeah...the priming issue...:(
the differnt scheme will be interresting to see...
i tired a DA deathwing army...well now they are all brownish^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Still not bad to have a DA Deathwing!
And yeah the paint comes out like a sneeze :( so no good for priming till the ice is gone. So hopefully soon.
And I guess I will get the Storm Troopers done too. Just because they are one of my favourite Guard units
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
are we now talking IG´s or the puppets here?...
and yep, the army is still there it is but only neglected so far...^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
IG I have way too many projects :( Need to stop starting new ones in the future xD ( I never have learned that form of restraint!), but yeah IG Storm Troopers are some of my favourite models and as they are on the tray to be sprayed they are going to end up in here! Not just Puppets, even if they have got the painting firing on all cylinders
Haven't felt this enthusiastic about painting/modelling in years (not since the Valk arrived for Xmas haha!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well something like a valk would be nice on my desk too^^ one day i need to scratchbuilt a flyer too...
restraining...how to? lol

i have ebay on my favoritelist and bookmarked on the toolbar...whenever i feel lazy or bored i surf there...and boy there is always something on...my responsibility as a father keeps me from wasting the kids piggybank^^
where does your GF lve that this is a major money drain for your hobby?^^
feedback is the best way for me to keep motivated and focused on a project...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
She lives down in Norwich lol At present that is not so bad money wise, but being unemployed it takes its toll. And with a move to Hereford things can only get harder :( Just will keep looking for work near her I guess.
Mind I seem to have given her the painting bug. Now to just get her into Relics and I will be a happy person
As for feedback I find it helps give you advice where it is needed, and it can help to improve things. Failing that good banter and conversation makes wargaming a very worthwhile pursuit Not just a value for model but a massive one for hours and it does just keep giving
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i think getting your lady into painting relics minis is just plain cheating... i think these are way too cute to say no... heck if i had them at hand now i could probably get my wife to it too^^ and she is literally not into painting and wargaming...
and yep...the odd part of conversation has sweetened lots of nights for me^^
so now i have to ask where do you currently live...and how far the distances are...long distance realtionships never were my cuppa tea...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Northampton, so it is like 100 miles (160 km) away :(
And Hereford is another 100 odd miles.
It has and will last
She likes to paint (there is some models she painted, as her first time http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/428015.page#3882685 ) Not bad and Sarah has a bit of an interest in LotRs... Just need to find her an army she likes (something Elven or Fairy based!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
lol...where she can use up all the purple and pink you never use^^ lol... choasy demons or traitor guard i guess would be a good use for that... or of course pretty eldar...^^
boy...that is a huge distance... *shudders* my wife always said i should have thought about aplying for outside jobs too... but if i would be away from her and the kids...where would be the point of working for a living if the living was somewhere else?... how do you cope with that?

But yeah Elves I think Be they space elves or elves xD
We have both coped with it quite well. Just a small update today.
Finished adding and altering the Colour Bearer. Added a Standard topper and some details, and filled in a few holes!
The rest of my time has gone on the construction of more stuff. Here is hoping that I can get them sprayed before it snows again... ¬_¬ I hate snow.

interesting knob on the standard...

A big button
Seemed fitting, for an army of puppets Plus it gives me more of a chance to do some verdigris effect
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
lol...i bet it is not that big... probably from a shirt?^^ on that scale everything starts by looking huge^^
i only ever done this effecxt by accident...and then forgot how i did it... what is your mixture?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I am not sure, I think sometimes you are doing something mundane (in this case Sorting laundry and found the button in the dryer ) and well what is small in human scale is huge at 25mm!
As for the verdigris, I use Scaly green ( OOP but there is Scruf Green Vallejo) followed by Hawk Turquoise. When dry it gets a coat of Brass, then a Mud wash followed by a tiny highlight of Brass after. I think there is probably other ways, but that is the one that I find works
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
ok, that definatly was not my way... i think i used beastly brown, followed by a drybrushed mithril silver... then i hit all with oop ork flesh wash...the green one...drybrush metal again and after that it gets a bit blurry to remember...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That is similar to how I tried in the past. I think part of the fun of painting is experimenting and find what works
Part of the rewarding part for me at least
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
rewarding and frustrating at the same time.,..to try these ideas for new mixtures one has to thank the god of metalmakingminis^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
It is so much easier to deal with Metal Minis! It is a shame that GW has given up on them :( Mind I do have plenty of stuff to work through over the next few months if not years....
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
mind you... too...i should paint up minis, instead i build robots..lol...and my minis collect dust...if i stop now hunting down new minis i might be able to finish the amount of already collected minis during the next decade^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I tell myself that... But I have already worked out what I plan to add to my collection next. Perhaps some Warmachine/Hordes stuff.
At the end of the day steampunk (or any other Retropunk) and Stitchpunk are very kool ^^
So many nice models, so little money and time
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
warmachine is very beautiful too...good choice...
did you make that word up jsut now? retropunk? sounds good...
and a totally true statement... there is never enough of both available...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I read it on a Facebook group. That Steampunk is basically 18th+ century Sci Fi. And that disealpunk etc are sub-categories of a bigger genre of Retropunk I think it sounds pretty kool too
Warmachine has a soft spot in my imagination ^^ Mind then there is Malifaux too which is an interesting looking game.
I just love retro style things (part of the appeal for 40k too, Retro Future) and alternative histories. And a little bit of horror seems to help too
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
you do realize that retro future is an oxymoron...?
and yeah.,.. i follow the malifaux thread too and they have lots of very nice models there... lot´s of creative ways to waste money on... tho i have to say dieselpunk has a quality of its own but it doesn´t ring the bell as steampunk does... the archaic theme there is better than the all too easy remebered timeline of the WWII scenario...beside... i live in berlin...you have many dieselpunk buildings still here... it is most vexing some times... that is what i like about london in particular...you can easyly tune your mind to steampunk in these surroundings...
and even if i am in possession (works both ways^^) of oh to many minis ...one day i wanted to make a mass of zombies too...there is never enough of these too^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah Sarah keeps telling me that retro future shouldn't work But I do think it has a point.
I get what you mean about Steampunk vs Dieselpunk. London (York, Hereford, Chester and a fair few other places) in the UK have such massive variations in architectural designs. You can find ancient stuff alongside modern and everything in between ^^
And I get what you mean about hobby projects taking possession. It can be a mission, one either loved, hated or even respected for its never ending quality...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well here in berlin we too have occaisionally in some spots some more victorian looking buildings...but since the city took a heavy beating during the last war...well they built it all up...grey and dull...i guess smaller twons with less peeps in them have a better view...
and of course it has a point...was just pulling your finger here^^
40k´s apeal is the not streamlined look...wellactually you have to exclude the tau to say this but...^^ thus it draws our attention...heck this is waht made the first Star wars movies so artistically apealing...and in the same aspect ruined the prequels^^ Automatically Appended Next Post: today i will go early to bed...i am a bit rusty from all the last long nights...fare thee well matey!^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah, the fact that people still fight the old fashioned way! I think that in a setting such as 40k where combat is very important and soldiers carry swords and other combat gear (and the mad mix of robes, candles, scrolls and wax seals mixed with Technology) is just so historic yet so futuristic, which as you said was the amazing thing about the first Star Wars films, Knights in space!
I get what you mean about cities there are places here (brand new places like Milton Keynes) which are so dull and without a good feeling.
It is reasons for loving history and sci fi that I do love museums mind. You can experience many things (and sometimes get lots of inspiration too!)

Not much today mainly due to a massive and painful headache.
But I did manage to get my army fluff typed up.
The boat rocked slowly, as its keel dragged along the coast bed. Commodore Godfrey. A moan passed over the patchwork sail, faces of cowards and deserters looked aghast at the sudden cold chill. A cruel smile passed over the Commodore’s face, he would not tolerate cowards in King Jorje’s Navy. His blue coat swirled about him as he rose to leave his quarters. Staring up at the main sail, he smiled crookedly as he saw the effects of his Maaj on the most recent cowards, two fresh troopers, who had decided to run rather than die with honour. Their faces now showed fear and aghast at knowing they had become part of the ship.
The ship herself bore the name H.M.S Drop-Stitch. A vast galleon held together with Maaj and think hemp rope. The hull had become infused with Maaj to the extent that it took on the colours of its Captain, moulding itself to his whim. As a member of the Royal Arcanum Guard, Godfrey knew full well that his King was pleased with the crew, the ship and more so himself. After all the king could see everything Godfrey did. As he strolled out on deck, the constant creaking from the waves had nearly died down, replaced with the tap-tap-taping of wooden legs on the deck and the creaking of ropes as the sails were pulled to and the ship tied to mooring. The two Sergeant Majors had already gone to the cost and had begun the directing of the mooring.
Teams of Trooper Puppets moved across the deck and on the coast. Elite Grenadiers marched down the recently dropped ramp, each carrying a huge and heavy grenade launcher. Dragoons swarmed out of the hold racing there way in groups of four to the staging point. A group of Highlanders flanked by a pair of Marksmen left the cabins below decks, followed swiftly by a Ranger company. Last of all came the hound-master and his hounds. Godfrey surveyed them all like a prince from the top of his quarters. His army had split into the small groups. While he watched them gather on the coast, he moved his gaze to the tower on the cliffs. An old Britanan fortress, the tower had served to watch this part of the coast to protect the homeland. The Royal Guard who was in charge, had vanished into darkness, something that concerned King Jorje. As such the 18th Royal Marines had been dispatched to investigate. Godfrey turned to Trooper Kuff and Trooper Payton, his Colour party. “Raise the banner”, he ordered drawing his fine cutlass in the meantime.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
nice read...be sure to write more of that!
and, could you explain what Maaj is?
well i am off for now... too late already...keep well mate!

Maaj is the name for Magic in the Relics world
And I plan to when I get a game or two in and maybe once I have the Sergeant Major he will get some backstory too!

I love the conversions you are doing on these guys. It is also nice to see something different in P&M other than yet-more-warhammer.
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Thanks Silver. I am currently contemplating how to make some more of the as yet released units... Broadsword wielding Puppets in Kilts are currently bouncing about in my mind, A few Empire Swords and some more paper clips may be the place to start.
I know what you mean about the Warhammer P&M Blogs, There are many of them (some unique ones like Vik's) I just get the feeling over the rest of this year I am likely to pick up more Relics Stuff and some other similar game systems, do like a fair few of Wyrds miniatures too!
As for updates today, I have finished the second batch construction wise and they have been undercoated.
 The army is increasing.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
in the background i see some stormtroopers and even a cadian officer...^^
nice idea to make some of the cute puppets wear kilts...i hpe you do that!... briadswords would be a nice option too! heck they could even wield wooden ones...might look even fluffy...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I had contemplated wooden swords tbh... Just need some ideas how to make them... As for kilting the puppets trying to figure that out. It is the heads mind. The Grenadiers heads would look best I think (thinking the Queens Palace Guard here in old Blighty )
And yes the recently striped Officer and Storm Troopers (now sprayed black ^^)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yep, the grenadiers would be a good choice... and as for the wooden swords...you could add a layer of PVA over the swords...after it got cured a bit then you use a brush and create a little surface distortion ....thus creating a texture for later on drybrushing over... did that a coupla times
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Hmm that would work nicely. Otherwise I think I may see how big the wooden coffee stirrers are from Starbuck ^^ they are free after all Might have to order my some more Grenadiers... Or see if there is a way to get the heads at least...

How is one meant to be able to start a job if no one will give you a chance

xup! thats totally the point...the point i wouldn´t want any more to work in that field of the industry... i have no expierience...but i am creative...but that doesn´t count for anything... you gotta have at least 5 years worth of exp... in a good position to be able to get this job...yeah...right...

Not much of an update, but the last of the mail orders came this morning.
The Sergeant major comes with a nice mix of weapons and extras. I just had to go with the pistol and spear!
And to finish him off and make him stand out from the troopers he will lead, a couple of feathers from the Empire State Troops Sprue. (Empire components are so useful for so many little jobs xD)
That is probably it for the next week or so. Everything is being packed up now
But when I am settled into my own place, I will get on the ball again Automatically Appended Next Post: Hmm.
So it seems that I was left with white spray, hence the Major getting a white basecoat. I am trying to decide if I should make him "cut" from different cloth. Maybe doing his flesh in darker browns. Any input?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
that sergeant mini remnids me of donald sutherland in revolution...he played a truly mean one...but greatly so...
and i am a total imperium bitz addicted... i wouldn´t have completed half of my conversion without some or other bitz of these range... and today i even got another 20 heads from the imperiums bits^^
i hope everything will turn out to your best expectations! i cross my fingers for you...as long as possible^^ Automatically Appended Next Post: oh.... that was a quick inbetween update... hmmmm... darker "flesh"... welll it is a metal one... so any thing can be mended afterwards... could be a good idea to make him stand out of the crowd...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I know the film you are on about, he is a respected man for being aggressive, kind of what Sergeant Majors are known for.
And yeah being metal means if I am not happy it is an easy job to fix Think I am going to have him made from a different cloth, so shall base coat him with Dark flesh I think. :p
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
good luck... what you could do is built up the cloth /sackings with devlan mud... layer after layer...this would gie a nice teint...^^
as i recall sutherland was an evil and murderous bastard...but then i think i am a bit of an authority hater^^ (if i am not the authority of course^^)
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Devlan mud is godsend for painters! But yeah many layers of mud, Dark Flesh and Terracotta, then a light drybrush of graveyard earth followed by you guessed it more Mud wash
Should look pretty good I think
You are at least the authority on riveting

and i dare say, welcome back! ^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Okay so I have been working hard and have got some parts down so when I have some nice daylight I will take some well over due photos.
Currently I have 9 Troopers that need rifles stuck on and basing then I have 2 Dragoons to finish, and then I have completed 3 squads and two heroes.
This then leaves me with 9 Troopers, 4 Dragoons, 3 Grenadiers and 2 Marksmen to complete. The Colour Party is part way done, mainly the detailing on the banner and the flesh.
And then I am going to attempt to learn how to sculpt. The plan is to create 4 Puppet hounds.
So we shall see how things go over the next few weeks (and expect many photos to come!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
good to hear from you again...
seems you have been productive but quiet
that pupppet hounds sounds really good!...if you go for the same look as the other puppet troopers are then this will be mostly just bigger sausages of GS that later on will be looking like sacks stuffed with hay.... so i think that is quite a clever idea to start sculpting! by the way... make sure you get a cheaper material for making the groundworks... wire or plasticcard to get the basic shape... PC tubes would be good for that as you could then cut them to support the pose you like...
i cross fingers for that project!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Why thank you Vik!
I have picked up all the bits I have had suggested to me, wire, paper clips, a sculpting tool and a block of superfine grade modelling putty. Going to get some practise in both with wire shaping and to figure out how best to use the putty. Think I might start with something very basic in shape, and having had a think the most basic thing I could find in nature is a swan! So I will post photos of how that goes.
And if I can get some good practise in then I will try the puppies and then there is the other idea that I have, once I have had a bit of practise. I will have a go at building a Highlander company (equipped with huge wooden broadswords!
And to add a photo a rough concept
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i like the concept for highland troopers even now...also! if this goes as planned you should condier having a neat talk to tor gamings for maybe using that work of yours then... i think that is a very good idea to add to the faction!
but i have to say... starting with a swan? well...i am intrigued...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I was reading a lot of advice on sculpting and a lot of it says when you start out to try something with a simple shape, and a swan or duck as a vaguely "S" shape. So it seems easy to try.
I have been playing with wire today and I am starting to get the hand of making wire skeletons. When I am happy with the four dogs I will take photos.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
funny that you mention wire skeletons... tonight i have done the same... isnpired by a friend here...(not_U) i tried myself in a bit of demon making... i think i will later on ...maybe tomorrow after a bit of resculpting and touch ups show what i did...
and when you put it like that i understand why the swan!
by the way... my own attempt looks already quite as a good dough- man
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Ha
The first time with putty is always the hardest. I am going to try my best and learn as much as I can to make the best models I can.
Wire Skeletons look quite funky. And mine somewhere between Starfish and Dogs, hopefully the putty will make them look more like what I am aiming for!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
and here is me...hopeing you made some step by step pics...fat chance of that going to happen... could have done that today too...but when you are working there is mostly no time for me to pull the trigger...beside my hands are not really what i want on my cam these moments^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I have completed one so far.
So when I do the second one I will do a step-by-step for how I do the wire skeletons, and I will try and do the same with the putty construction too! Don't worry Vik I plan on sharing the baby steps of learning to sculpt with Dakka!
Besides how else will I get told if I do something silly or that my work looks good!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
hmmm...that remains to be seen^^ good or bad...^^
but as i tried to make my own wire skeleton, and failed three times prior...even smashed a base^^ , i am very much interested^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Okay so the first of my Wire Skeletons for the Britanian Hounds, 3 more to build and then I can start to bulk them up!
The basic shape is made from a length of a thick paperclip, the legs formed from 0.5mm wire. Super glue ws used to hold the legs to the spine and then covered in Liquid green stuff, to provide additional structural strength.
After filling the gap on the base with green stuff the Skeleton was glued down. A head made from thin card was applied before a layer of liquid green stuff was applied to provide rigidity and to give me a surface to sculpt on later.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
looks good...interesting way to work to get that skeleton...me, i only ever twisted the wire to make up the shape... superglueing the parts together somehow was totally out of my ideas...??? hmmm... well i have planned to make some more sculpts soon so then i will try out your idea! thanks for sharing and good luck with the build!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I tried wrapping the wire round the spines but it just kept moving and I started to get angry. So I looked for a better way to get the wires to stick together and it has worked.
as you can see I have managed to build the other three and I also have some finished works.
Royal Guard
Sergeant Major
Grenadiers
Two Dragoons
Currently working on my Colour Party and Marksmen, then there is the next two dragoons, will hopefully get a fair amount of work done this weekend
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
oh yeah... these look lovely...nice glowy offect on the royal guard! the others look all very good!
and i see you even changed the poseing on the new skeleton! i like those!
and yes... wire tends to shift and slip on wire... it was most vexing for me too...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Thanks
Each of the hounds has been made different. One standing, one running, one leaping and as they are hunting one pointer
Sometime it just helps to have a lot of green stuff on hand for every job
And thanks for the complement on the paint jobs More to come 9 Troopers, 2 dragoons and the colour party to come this weekend.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
the pointer i now see too^^ lol... will there be big looling tongues on them? well actually there would be no point for that but i guess it would bring forth the dog-ity of the minis much better^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I had the idea of them having "felt" tongues I hope that you will not be disappointed when they are done
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
oh...that actually sounds quite promising...

Post by: alphaomega
Not a lot of work been done, I blame my older brother for sending me a belated present that led to the buying of Space Marine. And the loss of about 12 hours playing it between hanging out with my partner, so little time for painting (health issues raising their ugly heads too :( )
But I am feeling like starting my next project, Probably going to be the core of my Carapace Armoured Guard army, it used to be my Daemon/Witchhunters army but alas they screwed the codex over. So 60 Guard to paint, probably in a similar scheme to the puppets.... Photos to come! Automatically Appended Next Post: Mind I have done some sculpting on one of the hounds.
And probably going to get the troopers finished tonight before anything else. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Still got a lot to do. many small layers and all that to build up. Green stuff is easier to use than the modelling putty, but I will just keep going to they are bulked up and then work on detailing them.
And troopers are now based! Just the string to do on rifles and then they will get up loaded at long last
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
sorry mate... not much to be seen on this pic...to dark too blurry and too bad an angle...
i hope health is not threatened by something serious tho?
when prices might fall i probably will give the SM game a try too... Automatically Appended Next Post: oh...and cadians done in the same scheme as your puppets...that´s going to be interesting!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah I will take a better one tomorrow photowise.
Just as the doctor keeps telling me diabetes issues :/ but it is causing me to be in a lot of pain.
And yeah there will be some more photos in day light lol
As for the Cadians I am thinking Blue armour, Black boots and weapons and off white fatigues I am thinking. Mind I will need more Kasrikins (I have 72 so far...) to build a command squad. Then chimeras...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
you have 72 Kasrikins ??? and you need more? whoa....^^
the scheme sounds nice...but must be seen on the actual mini...
diabetes is bad.... if this ever hits me i will propbably die due that desease... i am way to dumb to keep diets through and will probably ruin my live due to some stupid eating ebahvior that i am not able to correct...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I have had diabetes for 22 years and it is the first time I have had a lot of complications :/
And yeah I need 6 blisters of Melta/Plasma Kasrikin, some to make a command squad and probably the Captain with the Sword to lead the army Should be tidy and there are 10 on my table waiting for some paint to hit them Hopefully tomorrow or the day after I should have a squad done!
10 of them are used as Stormtroopers in my general IG army (which is under going its 4 paint job) in green so different enough
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
your profile states you are 24? and then 22 years of diabetes? man that must be a hard childhood...
do you just like the look of kaskrins or why did you end up with so many of them?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
It has been different. But you have to deal with the hand you're dealt. Me and my Girlfriend are an interesting pair, she has epilepsy so it is a bit of a case of sick taking care of the sick at times! But we manage and look after one another.
And if I am honest the Kaskrins are my favourite models that GW make! (And the Imperial fleet for BFG!). And I used to run an Inquisitorial Storm Trooper army, I have 62 of the troopers left over from that (and 8 inquisitors and many henchmen). I think at some point I may have to make a completed model thread... I have a lot of them :O
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i second the need to show more of your stuff... wether that be in a new thread...choice is yours...
my father has epilepsy too...which led to many other smaller and bigger illnesses ...so i know that is also quite a frustrating setcard given to you... but yeah... what else is a real partnership essentialö meant to be then a coupling for looking after oneanother? at least i like to keep it that way...
37798

I think I will just add the Photos in here ^^
And yeah love is about caring and looking after each other
24297

i totally agree with you on both accounts

Oh dear, I have been working out how many models I own.
Over 200 Guard, 140 Marines, 120 LOTR models, 36 Britanan models, 140ish Empire, and many others O.O
It is scary when you look at it all (and only about 45% is actually complete...).
24297

hey...45% is almost the half of it...not too shabby i say! if i come close to 1% :`(
and i don´t even want to count the minis i atm have^^

Okay so big update time!
I have finally managed to get the Troopers fully complete
And as you can see guns on and based!
The Colour Party is very nearly done now too! Got a bit of detailing on both and a few more large areas to do on the Drummerdoll but getting there.
Close up of Banner
The almost completed Colour Sergeant!
Next up we have the re-enforcements, the 3rd and 4th Dragoons and the Marksmen!
Work to do but with the Drummerdoll hope to have them done by Tuesday Best laid plans...
Finally right now we have the update of nearly completed army shot!

as for the puppets... lovley bunch...! the one with the upside down mustket! he is my favorite! and the bannerbearer... looks very nice! the banner you have done really good! tho the banner still looks a bit too bright in my view...but that is the theme you have choosen...so very good work there mate!

The Libby is the standard SM one, but converted to have a storm shield Because nothing says Custodian of books like a big shield
Yeah I thought it looked a little bright at first, but mixed in with the rest of the army it does seem to come together. The tagline is "Play time is over!" Mind the Drummerdoll and the Marksmen should hopefully be done over the next few days. And then I will post my Stormtoopers

Just a quick update (Will do more work tonight but that means no decent light to take photos in ).
But I have started to actually build the hounds up (bar one that had an accident [Got stood on because he fell on the floor!]) They are starting to take shape but as always advice and constructive Criticism is always welcome!
They are starting to become vaguely dog shaped, think I may bulk them up with a bit of a string wrap round the torso.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yes, the basic shape is now much better to recognize... too bad one got ruined and needs now to be rebuild...but accidents happen... will you use GS to the very end with these? i think milliput would be good for these too to get those sacklooking bodies in shape... by the way... will the feet get any form of stronger substance look? because the other puppets have all peglegs and the hounds? just a thought...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Going to try and give them peg legs (if I can sculpt the details right!).
I have tried with milliput, but I am still not completely comfortable using it, But to bulk them up and make them look made of sack cloth, I am contemplating bulking them up further with green stuff and cotton wrapping.
As for the 4th hound, it was a shame :( But I have rebuilt the frame and will bulk it up, and then start doing similar things such as cotton wrapping to help get the lumpy sack style. I hope that it comes together nicely. And I am thinking about the Huntsman himself. Starting with the spare trooper and my empire bits box. Should be be kool if it works.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
hmmm... get something that looks like a dog leash... i know there is such a thing as a roll of rope in some mortheim stuff iirc...or possibly some DE stuff could be of help here too...if you have access to such bitz...
the sacking...hmmm... i think somewhere i have seen someone using the slipguard of an exacto knife to be used to create that sadbag structure... or you could use actual cloth for pressing it on oiled GS... so that you are able to get it off afterwards...
peg legs should be fairly easy... RS jake in his thread of sculpting has recently sculpted one... maybe you should have a look at this work and if not really helpful by just looking at ask him how he did it...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I will check that
I have been thinking how to add details to them. And looking at some techniques for how to make them look like walking sandbags haha!
Mind I think that with a mixture of techniques they will (fingers crossed!) look good But I will leave that debate to the peoples of Dakka
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
walking sandbags you say?.... thought they are more like stuffed with straw....actually a bit of straw leaking out would be a cool idea... maybe an objective marker with a slain puppet... straw coming out of a huge wound....
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That would be a kool idea might nick it

Watching the film 9 while working on my Puppets is quite rewarding.
Mind that machine thing seems like something that should be in your Plog Vik!
Still the Drummer doll just needs basing and the little bone on his coat painted, before a wash of Devlin Mud and then the first half of my army is complete. Shame I feel ill.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
erm.... that movie has escaped me... needs closer inspection^^... but as i just googled the movie...and only saw the puppet like main char... what machine do you refer to?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Both the sentient Master machine (it looks like a robotic squid!) And the cat one. The snake one is pretty creepy too.
I think I may actually have to be mad and make a puppet in that style (and scale so about 18" tall!)
On a War gaming related note, what colour should I do the lens on a model that is Karki green and a red/orangey Brown? I am thinking Blue, purple or even Yellow...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i think yellow... as it is more a mix of the two main colors... i wouldn´t go for blue or purple...they are too far away from the color ranges you chosen...
gian puppet squidd^^ low i think this is something the world needs to see^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Haha I can sew but not that well!
But I am going to build a puppet in the style of those from 9.
And yeah I think Yellow will work, Might start with Orange as the basecoat and build it up.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
good strategy!
well you could use insulationfaom tubes...and then just add PVA soaked cloth around...no real need to sew there...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
The yellow looks great (and slightly creepy) so thanks for the advice
As for the Puppet what I was thinking of doing that hehe now just need some hemp sack.... And yeah when I get the materials that will probably make it in here Well he will end up with a blue coat and black hat

don´t you brits get those bags in the supermarket too? those woven ones? instead of the plastic ones? they are dead cheap and can create a nice pattern...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Most of the shopping bags we get here are either plastic or the stronger plastic (bags for life). Might have to go to a bigger supermarket.
But on the model front my Stormtrooper squad is coming along

But on the hobby front I picked up my first Finecast model today. Don't think much of the material if I am honest, too soft and brittle. The Witch-hunter is an awesome model mind, wish it was in pewter mind :(

But yeah from Left to Right, Shadow Wizard, Witch Hunter and Death Wizard. Might even photograph how I do the purple bits
Oh I also got my Relics Rulebook at last! And Second Sergeant Major too!
Will take photos when I get him started (and locate my spare base...) ^^

the weird, the cool and the bald^^ lol
the two wizards... are these from a kit or finecasts? ...and i really like the WH.... there are so many cool looking models in the fantasy and 40k range of these...!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
The two wizards are from the plastic kit with some bits added or altered to make them more unique ^^ I think when I have finished the wizards I have (Life, Death, Fire, Light, Shadow and Beasts!) I will post them all up (then will hopefully add a a Celestial and Metal one down the line...)
The WH are some of my favourite models, the 40k ones, the new Fantasy one and the Mordhiem ones! Damn I have the nasty feeling that I might have to make a templar army in the future
24297

templar army...whoee^^ the mortheimer equivalent of some nice GK then
and the Life, Death, Fire, Light, Shadow and Beasts...is that something i am not currently getting the referrence of?

The Karskin are on their way (work back log!) But the wizards are going to come first (after all I have the fire, death, shadow, beast ones pretty much complete).
Need to get an 8th Ed Rulebook sometime. Odd how I am craving getting into Fantasy.

i am not really sure about these models.... Never seen them before. They look like they could be from a Tim Berton film or Little Big Planet.
They are pretty cool, and even with so many they all look different. I also like how you created your own with green stuff and wire.
Do they play as in 40K? Or is there another rule set for this game?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
the lil puppets are form tor gaming... they have theor own game and rules set...
well... currently i am doing a conversion with some of the bitz i got from RS jake... and i am using militia models as a base... together with some handgunners and other stuff i have i can understand your feelings about starting fantasy... of course i would not want to start yet another thing now^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Yeah the puppets are from Tor Gaming for use with Relics.
They are on brake due to reaching half way completed point, and me needing to work on something a little different.
Mind I am debating the second Relics force....

Okay so seeing as the Fiancée is heading home for nearing 3 months :( I need to make sure I have a project list.
And I am going to make it achievable. As such I am going to work to an army list of 500 points.
Which is as follows:
Witch Hunter 90
Brace of Pistols
Armour of Fortune
Swordsmen (20) 230
Full Command
Detachment: Free Company (10)
Crossbowmen (10) 100
Marksman
Archers (10) 80
Marksman

So I have been working on many Characters of late. there are a few more wizards to come.
But here we go, a few photos, (I am not so sure about the lighting, going to try a light box tip I picked up from here! ^_^) So hopefully better quality photos to come!
First up Amber Wizard
Bright Wizard
Shadow Wizard
Gold Wizard
Death Wizard
And finally Witch Hunter
Shall see if the light box method works tomorrow!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
interesting wizards.,... i see you have mixed the odd flagelant head into the models... good idea!!! and a very refreshing and unique scheme for each one!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I have been working hard. The witch hunter is complete and then their are Swordsmen on the way.
Just a shame I need new light bulbs :/
And maybe a light box (or small frosted plastic bin!).
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well i need to have a lightbox too.... it really is quite frustrating to see the stuff in bad pics....
37798

I agree, and with English weather being unpredictable as always (Today it has rained, been sunny and very windy, sometimes all at the sametime!) it makes taking decent photos difficult.
So going to pick up a "light bin" and see if that helps.

So a very long overdue update. Not on life, that is recorded elsewhere lol. But I have been unable to focus for a while but it seems to be coming back and as such I have decided that I will get my first 500 points of empire completed before long! So First up the completed Witch hunter. He was a fantastic model to work on (even if Finecast Resin is the devil of all materials to have a model made of!) I have gone for a more yellow based brown and neutral look rather than the reddish brown GW choose. Next up is the Swordsmen. Originally my army was based on the schemes of Altdorf, but I have since changed to Hochland as such Blue is slowly being repainted to green. Need to get some more Knightly orders Shield Sprues before I can finish them all mind! Next up would be the detachment of Free Company. My aim with these is to use browns, greens, red, black and off-white to make them stand out and match to the rest of the army. The archers where originally huntsmen under the old book, but are going to be used as Archers now. Still going to keep the uniform mostly brown with green sleeves and trousers, and the red coming from feathers. And on the arrows too! Crossbow men, I like the longer and harder hitting range compared to handgunners. Hence the inclusion in this quite small army. And finally it brings me to the army shot. 51 models strong and exactly 500 points. Designed under the old Border Patrol Rules it gives me a good solid core to an Empire Army I feel. Hopefully over the next 10 days I will be able to get them all complete and maybe then begin learning how to play Warhammer 8th Ed properly. Stay tuned.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
the witch hunter looks simply amazing! and if you would be so kind a dayligt pic to better apreciate the job you did on him would be so nice!
and when i finally get my fist paycheck in years this model will be mine too...
the army is already big... tho the points... i am marveling at the points count for fantasy armies... the whole lot only 500 points? man that must be a huge amount of work and money to get it to 1000... what is your long time goal?
and good to see you back!... hope the personal life is treating you well...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I plan to get some more photos of the Witch hunter tomorrow when the light is a bit better (it was bright when I went to town, but when I got back had gone a little grey). Think I will also get a photo of my Priest, Captain with Banner and General/Captain done too.
After this core is done my aim is to get the next 500 points done, which is 20 Spearmen, 20 handgunners and a wizard or two. After that going to aim to work on the knights (quite happy with the conversions ^^) and and pistolliers.
Personal life is a bit of a muddle but wading through it Your brick work walls and the lamp are very impressive terrain pieces.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
why thank you! *blushes* it was a pain in the rear tho^^... and i am not even half way through yet^^
sounds interresting ... by the way... have you heard of the "das schwarze auge"? a german bases RPG which also has a table top variant ... which i happen to own quite a fiew interesting looking miniatures... knights and so on... if you are interested i could show you some of my stuff... if you ever need some different looking minis we might arrange something...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That does sound interesting, not heard of it before. But I am in the process of diving into a lot of information/sources on mixing Tabletop and RPGs. Something that I am keen on getting into.
Mind I will add the undercoated knights to the list of photos tomorrow. Mainly to show of the conversions xD
I am drafting some rules for a unit I still feel is missing from the Empire book, that of Empire scouts (light Cav with bows). So I may end up converting some of them up in the near future too.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well for now i am looking forward to better pics of that WH...
and if you ever need some help with minis let me know...
and mixing tabletop and rpg... well munda and mortheim is only just a fist step but certianly not the end of that idea!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Mordheim is very interesting and appealing to me. And something I am looking to pick up the rulebook sometime.
There is something about having a story behind an army that is very appealing. I do have some back ground for this patrol done, need to type it up and post it some time. Tomorrow with the photos if I can get round to it.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yup... fluff has to be there for me too... i still have a big scheme for my army to name each mini... for me that is essential... and to have character development then is only the next logical step...
if i hadn´t invested into 40k so much i probably would have been neck deep into mordheim by now too...^^
tho a gang one day would not been that much i think..^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
That is what I am thinking (plus it give me an excuse to buy more of my favourite Empire kits and another Witch Hunter too!) ^^ so I think is going to be one of my next investments.
I name every Character, most squads, tanks (and warmachines too!) and sometimes when I am bored write short stories about my forces.
Guess that I might have to do some Guardsmen in the coming future too. But for the next 10 Days I plan to work hard on the Empire stuff
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
you do that... empire even may look brigt for a change of the ol grim dark clichee...^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I tend to have a brighter palette. My painting style is bold, solid and often bright (my space marines are purple and blue!) and my Empire army is to follow suit. If I did get into Mordhiem I would use a similar pallet.
Every wargamer develops their own style, and I think that is how it should, otherwise it all looks exactly the same and everything is "Grim Darker" than the stuff before it. A lot of The league of Extraordinary Riveters stuff is distinct in that sense. Both painting styles and indeed construction and army presentation.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i think that whole hobby is meant to be a good way to express ones individuality... if peeps only do follow an art book of how to paint their SM then they are doing it wrong for me...
but that is just personal taste...
have you looked into shasolenzabi´s stuff? he does some truly unique looking IG... with camo... truly awsome looking...
and with an empire warband bold schemes is just to the point... they are meant to look exactly that way^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I have seen Shaso's guard, very impressive, I have tried camo patterns in the past, can't quite get it right. On tanks and such it can be very fun to trial.
And Empire as with pretty much every fantasy army can benefit from strong and bold schemes. I did do Slaanesh WOC before, bright purple with pink highlights. I have always done bright and bold, it is my thing I guess.
And I plan to do a Witch Hunter warband in the future. Light browns, white and black (with many bright coloured feathers!)
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
if it wouldn´t be so damn pricey still i would have had way more WH and inq stuff for my army as well... i like the fluff behind them and you have so much room for individuality...

As promised a short story. Or part of it anyway, designed to give a back story of the Witch Hunter and even the army too. Enjoy, and hopefully some photos to come tomorrow, hopefully I can catch the good weather haha
Oswald surveyed the ruins of the village. Many good men and women of the Empire had been murdered, mutilated and reduced to bloody ruins. The smell of charred flesh hung over the still smoking ruins of the Hochland village, the only sounds the careful foot steps of the State Troopers and the occasional spitting of dying embers.
Oswald Aldrech was a hard man. One who had been hardened further by a life lived bringing Sigmar’s Wrath to the enemies of the Empire. But even this destruction made anger burn in the depths of his stomach. He had been heading to this village on a summons from the local priest of Morr. The Priest feared that a cult had begun to take root amongst the farmers and trappers, and he feared it was connected to an increase in local beastman activity. Oswald had found the priest, or rather what was left of him. Impaled upon a statue of Morr, over looking the small cemetery, hands, tongue, eyes and feet had been crudely removed from his form.
The Sergeant who had led the small patrol force walked towards Oswald. His sword still drawn, grey shield held tight. He wasn’t a young man but with the green and red of Hochland, his steel helm topped with a large white feather and the grim look etched on his gaunt face, gave him the air of someone not to be messed with. “Well Witch Hunter Aldrech, what do you make of this?” He asked, more with a sense of knowing his own opinion, but play acting to an officer. It was true that rural folk tended to distrust outsiders, even more when they were in charge. But it was more true that Someone of Oswald’s position carried a great amount of fear from the common man and indeed noblemen often glared with suspicion at a Witch Hunter in their mist.
“I think Sergeant, that two incidents happened here. The Priest wrote informing my order of a possible cult element. And linked it to the beastmen. I am sure that you have noticed some of the unusual elements to this scene of wreckage. Firstly there are two distinct groups of villagers, one near the gate, cut down like animals before the slaughter. The other hacked apart in the manner of people who stood in defence of their home. The other thing that is to be noticed is there are no bodies of children to be found. Your men and the others haven’t seen a single child.” Oswald paused to let the concept fall into the sergeants hand, he watched the other man for a reaction, but he gave only the smallest of nods. “It would seem that the children were stolen by the beastmen, and perhaps the cultists let those dark creatures in, as the gate nor the wall shows any signs of damage. There were traitors to Hochland and the Empire in this village and I think we will have to hunt the hunters and rid this part of the Drakwald of their foulness.” The fever of a fanatic crept into Oswald’s one remaining grey eye and edge his voice. The Sergeant grunted in agreement.
At that moment, the a dreadful horn sounded in the distance. An ambush it seemed. Oswald and the Sergeant hurried to the centre of the village, already the Swordsmen had formed up, the militiamen following little order formed up on the flank of the Swordsmen. The Archers took up their lose formation, notching arrows to bows as they took cover in the burnt out barn. Finally the Crossbowmen formed up on the high ground close to the well. Oswald and the Sergeant found places among the Swordsmen. Oswald checked both his pistols were loaded and ready to fire. He also loosened his Reikland steel sword from its scabbard. A pregnant silence fell over the village, a gentle smoke laced wind ruffled the feathers and uniforms of the state troopers. It tugged at Oswald’s heavy brown leather coat, showing his enchanted armour briefly to the weak sun.
Then they came, a herd of braying angry half-men. The dreadful children of chaos. Gors and Ungors shoved and lashed out at each other to make entry to the village, so they could rend and main in the names of their unholy dark gods. A huge creature clad in shreds of gore smeared, red and green studded leather pounded his way into the village at the head of the Gor. Oswald knew then that he would allow Sigmar’s will to be done, and that dreadful horned creature would die in vengeance of the Empire’s blood that had been spilt…

So I promised some photo updates and due to having some good weather for a change, I managed to get a few decent photos of Empire Heroes.
First up the Witch Hunter, still think I may highlight the feathers a little more, and touch up the base.
Next up we have the Captains. The Banner was designed to be quite generic so that it can be used as any magic banner bar the Griffin Standard.
Front
Back
Just showing of the freehand banner a little bit. Yeah it is nothing more than a Templar Cross but that is one of the heraldic symbols of Hochland, so it fits...
Finally we have the Warrior Priest and the Engineer, who tends to hide in the big block of Handgunners and add his fire power to theirs.

firstly i have to compliment you for your bright and shapr pics... not often do we get such good pics here^^
second... the minis look very good...the banner i really like! the colors are very vibrat and you can´t be left untouched by them! the freehand is very good looking and i like that you have gone for bigger lines on the templar cross! that is setting the thing apart... tho a lil greyish highlight just for the cross i think would give this part a nice 3D effect...
peeps that ahve heard my musing the last coupla month probably know my views on non black rim of bases... which aren´t that nice but i guess if you can live with that i have to too^^
what i would like to know is will you give the white trousers of your WH some wash? and if so, which one? i think these could do with some...tho i´d be damned if i knew which one... need and answer for that too for my own men...
also i think most of your metal work could do with a wash or two... to add a bit of depth to it...
otherwise i have to say... good looking characterfull miniatures that look stunningly painted... specially the sigmar priest and the banner bearer... their eyes...totally awesome!
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Thanks ^^
As for a wash on White. I might try mud or black, but it is going to have to be thinned down just to shade, but not colour the white. Will trial and error on some beastmen and see what comes.
Most of my metal work tends to get a thinned and mixed wash of black and blue if it is Silver based metal. For brass/golds they get Sepia/mud and sometime red washes. I think need to just touch over with a wash mix here and there.
There is more to come. Hopefully I can get photos up as I go along.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i need to get a good thinned down washmix too... usually i just go for heavy wash and use them straight from the pot... which i too think is a no go for white...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
No that is the complicated bit getting the mix of water/wash right enough to shade but not colour white. Going to be interesting, guess I will trial and error it the next few weeks.
(Gods I need some proper sleep)

I just can't sleep at all. Weather and the constant stomping of the upstairs neighbours >.<
Mind I do tend to paint or read. I have worked through a few Steampunk books and Black Library ones ^^ some benefit at least!

Post by: Viktor von Domm
hey... steampunk books? which one... the only real one i´ve read was the affirmity bridge by george mann... which was quite good all in all...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I have that, yet to start it mind!
I also have a book called The Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack, by Mark Hodder on my to read list.
I also have two Books in the Leviathan Series (Leviathan and Behemoth) and the third on its way soon. The Clockwork Century series by Cherie Priest has been amazing (Cowboys, Zombies, Civil War and Airship Pirates). And most recently I have finished the Tales of the Ketty Jay (by Chris Wooding).
I have to say possibly my second favourite book series. Air-pirates, airships, daemons and some very in depth and associable characters. Worth a read
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i like a good book series... as once you get acustomed to characters and settings it is always hard to have the book ended... i really read slower towards the end of a book to keep the effect longer^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I know that feeling entirely. And it is weird, that you feel like member of a crew, that you are there in the story with them. Even odder when it a story about a crew of an airship...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well if you don´t get that feeling from a book i hazard the tought here it sin´t any good to read!
well now i need to get some sleep... and probably you should do the same ... even or rather becasue of the weather and your neighbors^^

No worries Vik.
There will be a few WIP of my little side project tomorrow (need to find the camera charger first!) but I hope you will enjoy the parts swapping that has been going on. And one of my personal favourite conversions I have done to date (even if it has made me hate Finecast even more....)

So it has been awhile that I have needed to do a photo updated. So I have begun a summer project. An ally force for both my Space Marines and Imperial Guard. So impulse purchase lead to the starting of a Space Wolves force. And I have done my best to make them as unique as I could manage.
Rune Priest
Wolf Lord
Iron Priest (front)
Iron Priest (back)
5 Grey Hunters #1
5 Grey Hunters #2
Space Wolves Force undercoated
And just because I decided to play about with my favourite kit, the Empire Wizard one, I decided to construct an Inquisitor/ Primas Psyker. I am quite happy.
Primas Psyker - Missing his book...
And something that I am happy to have managed to collect and been after for awhile, the Heraldry of the Empire book, very inspiring
And something a little interesting...
A number of small paint jobs to come over the next few days. including a few Empire characters and the Space Wolves, plenty of fun to have.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
if the puppies werent so overused i might have made a force myself...
good start by the way... a number of still to be drilled barrels tho but the whole looks very good...
and you ninjaed my future idea for psykers
37798
Post by: alphaomega
I guessed I am trying to work out if they would be cheaper (and kooler) than Sanctioned Psyker models.
The bolters will all get drilled at some point xD but as models the Space Puppies are so amazing.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
oh yeah amazing they are... the kit i´ve heard comes with the most head body ratio ever...which is a dream come true for any converter...
and yes... the wizard set is most versatile for eerie looking models^^

So sometimes I read the "great finds" thread I tend to take it with a pinch of salt.
But today I was walking past a charity shop on my way into the city centre and what did I find in the window? 8 copies of Lord of the Rings Battle Games, a bi-weekly magazine that came with a model (or sprue of them), for a £1 each. Seeing as I got two sets of plastic sprues, war bands (Urk-Hai and Men of Rohan) and 6 metal models. The value of the plastics alone is £30... The metals are probably close to £42... So as one may guess I am a happy wargamer! And my Gondor force has gotten a good boost in the form of Aragon and Gandalf
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
first puppies...then LOTR? hmmmm.... you definatly got your hads ful^^ and what did you have to pay for that lot?
37798
Post by: alphaomega
£8 which was a massive saving hence the impulse buy. Close to a 10th of the value xD
I have a lot of things to work through. I think when I am settled into a bigger places I think I will start taking photos of my entire stock.... That is going to fill my gallery on here.... Seeing as I have a lot of little projects on the go, and maybe a few more to come soon!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i still can recall you wanted to do that stromtrooper shot^^
and yep... i probably would have got me that lot for eight pounds too
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Cheap as chips as an overly orange man from England often says
Yeah on my list of things to do, storm troopers that is. And when I get the IG repainted.... I really need to sort out a proper working space soon!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yup... that working space is THE essential thing to establish
37798
Post by: alphaomega
So I have preordered Dark Vengeance because the models in it are amazing. I also got my order of Cyber-wolves and out of the 3 one has a miscast.
*Moan about Finecast*
As you can see one melted foot and one component that isn't going to fit because of miscasting.
So photos and a complaint have been sent to GW.
Such is the joys of Finecast.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
actually i can´t tell head or tell completly...which shows how bad that stuff is warped....
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Exactly. I can deal with flash, clean up and even thin parts. But when it is warped enough that it looks like a ducks foot... I can't do much with it (other than chop it off and rebuild with plastic bits!).
* Le Sigh*
In other news I thought you and the people of Dakka might like to see a chunk of my collection....
Yeah all Power Armoured Space Marines.... And that don't include the Grey Knights! Or the scouts and terminators...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
that shows that when one starts with marines it´s like chips... you cant stop with one chapeter^^
nice collection...and still lots of paintwork to do
37798
Post by: alphaomega
There is loads of paint work to do. But all the SW are in the process of being basecoated I hopefully by tomorrow an update for them.
And I guess come Next weekend I will have the start of my 4 Space Marine army.... Oh dear Not forgetting that I have two IG armies and a small Sisters of Battle force... Then there are the Britananian Puppets, The Empire and my Mordor Gondor forces.
And all I have at present is time.... Lots of time.

well... and money it seems^^ as that is quite a fortune in plastic crack^^

Ah now I am in the difficult place of trying to figure out how to paint wizened flesh. I plan to use it for Gandalf, Long Fangs, Rune Priest etc but I have no idea where to start :/
Okay so found a useful place for advice (a How to Draw article of all things xD) and basically to add age, the best way is to highlight up flesh a number of times using small thin lines. Sounds almost easy, we shall see how it looks on Gandalf when he is done.

Okay so you know sometimes you just have a productive evening.
Last night I couldn't sleep at all, so I basically undercoated, washed the Pack and began working on the two characters for my Space Wolves.
All of them are currently getting their 1st coat of Russ Grey which will then be followed by Agrax Earthshade. They really are a treat to paint! I am glad I took the effort to mix the components up as much as I did, means no doubles (well maybe a wolf or two! But no marines )
I also got very much into the zone with the Rune Priest, to the extent that he is about 65% done! I hope to get him finished tonight.
I am happy with how he is coming together and he is working nicely as a colour scheme tester too!
Not all SWs mind. I have been working on Gandalf as well (well he is Grey and so are the SWs so the use of similar colours made sense...)
Still need to apply about 3 highlights to the face and hands to make him look old.... And maybe a few very thin washes too!
Working from Film Stills and such to make him look as life like as i can, pain in the arse, but worth it!
Now I showed off most of my Power Armoured Marines, so I thought I would share my modest Terminator collection today.
At present I have 29, 10 Standard Terminators, 5 Assault Terminators, 5 Space Wolves Terminators, 7 Grey Knights, a GK Grand Master and a SM Librarian. Hopefully a few more to come this week... And of cause the 5 Deathwing Terminators from DV too.
And yeah the Wolf Guard sprayed black... Lots of work to do on them
Now the paint brushes are calling me...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
Now the paint brushes are calling me...
send them best wishes from me... and congratz to them for the sterling job they do
good looking assortment there...
gandalf really looks great...
and the whole lot of SW shows that insomnia sure has it´s benefits^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Well if you are going to be awake for hours might as well make good use of it ^^
Hopefully the Wolves will all be complete tomorrow (the wolf models not the SWs...). Mind on the SW front they are all about to get a nice coat of Russ Grey and a Earthshade wash... Bar the Wolf Termies who are going dark Blue-grey...
And yes, when you are that sleep deprived the paint brushes start talking...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
lol.... might be due to some funny paints tho... with some hues you never know... fumes may do some funny things to you
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Well the smell of Badab Black would count to that...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
as i have no sense of smell (no really! ) i cant tell^^
37798
Post by: alphaomega
And yet more updates!
I haven't felt this productive in a while, guess I just needed the insomnia to push me onwards.
The Space Wolves have now reached a point where they are all mid-toned Russ Grey. The new paints do work a lot better than some of the old ones.
Agrax wash to come as soon as I have finished blogging and a little Camoshade around the feet Now all the wolf pelts are going to be done to match the Fenrisian Wolves, as in white with a brown basecoat. And speaking of wolves the Cyberwolf is very nearly done. The odd bit of mechanical components needs to be done in brass. And the eyes & tongue in Red.
I need to go buy more Tetley tea... Then I can get on with Basing
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Okay so there will be an Inquisitor and retinue coming this soon... and I just converted my weaponsmith (who wants a strange orange monkey...) from a left over Tech Priest and a few other bits
Fun times.
Also my order for DV has been shipped. Dark Vengeance Shipped on date: 2012-08-29 09:16:59.0
So knowing my postman it could be here anywhere from Tomorrow to Tuesday! Going to be fun working on that lot And yeah the start of my 4 Loyalist Space Marine army....

Okay so home. And sorting a few things out. But in the safe space for parcels there was a very large box for me.
First thing I will say about Dark Vengeance is that every model (including the doubles) are fantastic! So much detail. They really do know the rather static AoBR models out of the warp! I have taken some sprue shots so when I have a little more time will upload them (aka after I have eaten in about an hour!).
But I will say this, the character models, including the Chaplin are amazing. I hope that they do get round to making some single plastic characters for 40k because that Chaplin would be perfect! As would a Librarian, Techmarine, Chaos Sorcerer etc.
SO full unboxing! Because it doesn't come across often....
The Black box...
A massive pile of Plastic Crack and other gubbins. 5 Sprues including the Limited Chaplin, one of the sprues is cloned, containing many cultists and the other cloned bits like Marines.
The Chaplin on his Sprue. I hope that they start making some of the small blisters for 40k the quality of the Chaplin is truly amazing!
Okay so we have the sprues. Front then back.
Back
Front
Back
The Cloned Sprue - Front
Back
That is the sprue that is doubled up in the boxset. Even in the cloned parts and models, there are some amazing levels of details.
The gubbins, mini Rulebook, how to build info ad stats etc.
It is probably going to be a while till I get my teeth into the full contents, but I do think I may work on the Characters alongside the other things that are my current projects. Going to get interesting I fear... Automatically Appended Next Post: One tiny gripe about DV. The sprue layout for the DA Commanders head. A small "H" piece of sprue between the wings, not helped by the thinness of the wings, lead to a chunk breaking off in clean up.
Oh well thankfully I had a few DA bits about and have replaced the head.

Okay so I think it is time to make a hobby pledge.
For the rest of September I plan to complete the following.
1) Wolf Guard Terminators
2) Grey Hunters Pack #1
3) Grey Hunters Pack #2
4) Long Fangs
5) Wolf Lord and Rune Priest
6) DV Characters
Now that is a lot of models if I am honest, and I hope to get them all done by the 1st October! Photos shall be taken at every other step till I get the lot finished.
Okay I hope to be back to this on Saturday.

It is terrible. you go out in a coat. it is warm and sunny. You go out in a jumper and it rains.... -_-
Well the next things for me to work on include the Wolf packs, some Dark Angles and maybe an Aragon. :p
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yeah... i like my weather to be predictable... but it seems atm to be not that...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
Hmm damn Gav Thorpe.
Back in 99 I started Wargaming, with The Eldar. Never thought I would want to collect or play them again. but after reading Path of the Warrior (and starting Path of the Seer), there has been a rekindling of wanting to collect some Eldar. Le Sigh.
So I guess I may pick up a Farseer and some Aspect warriors at some point.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
if i didn´t have enough up my sleave as is i would consider tau and eldar armies purly for an artistical challange... doing something rather bright for once...
37798
Post by: alphaomega
My painting style was born from Eldar and even doing Chaos, Guard and Empire, before reaching the Imperial Crusade I have going on. The initial painting style I developed by painting Eldar has become my style. Bright, bold and strong colours.
Maybe I will order a Farseer and go from there...
