So I am going to post some questions and answer here, to keep me from answering the same questions numerous times. I will continue to amend this post with any further questions that may be asked, and an official answer.
"In the challenge you mention that you need to paint 2 Models.
But what about about having additional models?
For addition to the environment or display?
Not actually involved in the duel but watching from the sidelines?
Or involved but not one of the duellists?
Or a one versus many duel? One terminator with a flame thrower versus some ripper swarms (as an example)?"
All of these things would be fine. The rules state that you need 2 models dueling. Anything above and beyond that is allowed. I don't want to prohibit creativity on this project. I really want to see what Dakka has to offer.
Ouze wrote:OK, dumb question. I have a model I've started assembly on, but haven't painted. It's still in around 6 pieces or so. However, some of the parts have been primed black - I was going to start painting it next week. Would such a model be eligible, or does all (or most) of it still need to be bare plastic\styrene\metal\whatever? I can certainly come up with something else, if that's not appropriate - just wonder about other projects I may have primed but never started painting.
Excited to see another painting competition!
No issues with a primed model. Primer only takes a few minutes anyways. I don't see that giving you any unfair advantage.
heartserenade wrote:Interesting! I think I would have my first ever miniature painting competition!
Oh, question: do we have to show every part of the diorama in the WIP photo (for example, statues, the base etc.) or just the dueling models?
A good overall picture of the project. We want to make sure everything has been painted new for the purpose of this competition.
heartserenade wrote:Follow-up question: any restrictions with photomanipulation? Say, change the background for a more dramatic scene, lighting effects, etc.?
As long as your'e not manipulating the colors of your models you should be fine. Go to the following link and take a look at what others have done in the past for some good examples. I would say this competition is following the same suit as previous versions.

Cutthroatcure wrote:So we have to submit the WIP when we submit out entry in March?
I am pretty sure I could have a ton of fun with this!
Correct. Send me 2 pictures. One of the completed project, one of the
WIP. Please send no more than 2 photographs. If you want a montage you will have to do that yourself before sending. Remember if you send multiple pictures of the completed project I will have to pick just one. Therefore it's important that you know exactly what picture (or montage) you want published.
Also it is a good idea to name your piece. Do not include your name in the file. Just the title of your project.
Make sure in the email with the picture files you have your screen name in the subject heading. I will make sure to keep careful track of what project belongs to which member.
It is best to make sure to follow these guidelines. If you don't, I will do the editing myself, but it may not be exactly what you want.
If any member needs any help please don't hesitate to contact me. I will help point you in the right direction. You can send an email to the address above, send me a pm here, or continue posting in this forum. I will continue posting all questions in my first post so everything is conveniently located.
Disjointed Entity wrote:How many entries may we have for this competition? I'm torn between two ideas.
One entry per person.
ghosty wrote:Question: Say you have a miniature that you started a long time ago, and never finished, but had put up pictures of it on Dakka, if you completed it for the competition, could it be entered?
Going straight by the rules, no. Your entry must not have been shown anywhere online.
Also having a partial paint job is getting a leg up on the competition.
BrotherHaraldus wrote:Sign me up.
BTW, is it OK if i make it together with someone else? (for only one entry, of course)
All painting must be done by the actual entrant.
xSoulgrinderx wrote:For this competition is there any restriction on the type of models we can use? IE: can we use conversions from Reaper, Armourcast, warhammer fantasy, custom green stuff models and all that jazz?
No restrictions. Mix and match, kit bash, whatever makes you happy.
ghosty wrote:Surely if it hasn't been painted prior to the start of the event would it not matter if the converting had already started? I just want to see where I stand in this.
Your assumption is correct.
Ecstasy in Service wrote:Ok question really quick:
I love the idea and the concept of this contest, I so happen to have a interesting piece of terrian I would like to incorperate into this but it is already painted and not by me. Is it ok for me to pose my two duelists on this terrian, unpainted for WIP?
So you are only asking about a
WIP picture?
Anything painted before the announcement date would not qualify for the contest.
