Limited 40k troop and transport bundles @ 2012/01/30 15:54:57

Post by: Kroothawk

Hi,
seems like the combo kits are indeed coming, as a limited run for retailers this week or next (I guess next, as my local FLGS hasn't heard anything about it). xxRavenxx over at Warseer posted this (but with one miniature more each, but that's the vehicle I assume):

10 Space Marines & Drop Pod £35
10 Imperial Guard Cadians & Chimera £30
10 Chaos Space Marines & Chaos Rhino £35
11 ? Ork Boyz & Trukk £30

Must be super secret, as WD doesn't mention it.

Post by: tetrisphreak

So that looks to be an average savings of $10 to $15 USD per combo kit?

I wish they keep that idea to stay.

Also 11 Orks is a strange number, unless somehow 1 nob sneaks in there as well.

Thanks for the heads up, Kroothawk!

Technically the ork kit can make 11 boyz. 10 normals and 1 nob. (it has 13 torsos and 11 legs).

Will they be aobr snap together marines and orks? or those snap together Cadians that are in those stupid 3 pack starter kits?

If they are standard multiparts I could see me getting a few of the Ig kits and trading away the footsloggers.

If it were not for the stupid japanese prices I would get myself some chaos and start a warband. Also an eldar kit would have been nice.

So, only available at the GW stores? Any FLGS can do it? No chance at being available online or through someone like The WarStore?

Contradicting infromation ATM. One FLGS owner says he got informed about it for this weeks order. My FLGS owner knows nothing about that. We will see.

I think the bundles are a great idea, dunno why they ever got rid of em. Back when I was planning to start a game store, I was planning to offer bundles myself as a sale thing.. you pick 1 10-man box set and 1 matching transport for the army and save like $5. And I was gonna do a similar build-your-own-battleforce deal too.

Supposedly they are going to Trade accounts, (FLGS), and not to GW stores. I think I get them next week.

They'll probably be multipart models because the snapfit guys only come in the little $8 boxes and painting kits. I don't know why you'd think that.

I recall them having the exact same deals five or so years ago (bar the drop pods), presumably when they though their sales were flagging then too. Savings were about the same too, though they're making a third or so loss on the original price of the kits if these numbers are correct.

I wish they keep that idea to stay.
It's an old idea that is apparently coming back. There have been boxes containing a troop choice and a basic transport from GW before and more than once if I recall, though it's been about 5 or 6 years since the last time.

It does seem a bit cheap for a GW product.
On the Chaos bundle you're saving £8.50.
I need more bodies for my Death Guard & the rhino wouldn't hurt either.
So much for me limitting more spending so mr bank manager leaves me alone :(

Oh you're gonna get it for putting "fanboy" in front of his name, Kroot...

But really. I'm not quite sure why one would assume that they're going to be the snaptogethers. The two times(off the top of my head, that's how many times they've done it. First time was at the release of "Cities of Death" if I remember right, second time was when 5th edition launched) they did this snaptogethers existed but they packed in the multiparts.

It's not an awful deal. Sadly I already have the Space Marine Tactical Squads I want, and only want the drop pods. (Yes I actually want drop pods )

If I was starting a chaos force, the chaos bundle would be a good deal. But I think I'll stick with my other projects.

I'd been thinking about getting some drop pods just for some different options in my C:SM army, but didn't feel like it was worth buying them alone. Now I can get some spare bodies to use up weapon bits (assault and heavy weapons galore!) and get a drop pod for something nasty to pop out of.

If I had 70 quid spare I'd grab two tactical squads and DP right now. Awesome deal add in a Space Wolf Pack and that would get me closer to my claws of Russ dream.

Don't knock it. Saving is a saving, and it's quite possible these aren't limited releases.

What's wrong with scouts? Popped a rhino and took out 3 marines from the explosion with 1 scout sniper. Drinks all around! It was both cinematic, and satisfying.

lololol. Its getting bad down under.

+1. It's beyond bad. It's a joke, and if you didn't laugh you'd cry. Can pick up 1 infinity model for $10, or 1 finecast SM captain for $28. Hmm...

But on topic, bundle deals would be handy. If the savings equal buying online (doubt it), it'll save time waiting for orders to arrive.

I agree. These Troop + Transport deals, the BC, and those Apocalypse deals (back during the Apoc launch) were great ways for people to get a lot for reasonable prices. That's what separates GW from the other companies: same prices per model, but need a lot more models. Sadly, they offer few ways to get into a system or an army for a reasonable cost. They need more permanent solutions like these instead of just one-time deals.

Those Apoc deals where awsome. The shear number of kits they put out where amazing. I got the Tau army box and the one that had like 9 suits and 6 stealth suits and my Tau army was rather complete except for getting some more 'fish's.

They probably didn't know. It's not as if GW made a big deal about it in their monthly magazine - they chose to promote Lord of the Rings.

What a difference a bit of promotion makes.

I don't think anyone has said how long this deal will last. And you will have to rely on your FLGS to order them since they appear to be trade accounts only (not in GW stores or the online shop). I haven't seen them offered on the major online vendors sites either (probably due to a limit on the amount each FLGS can order) and they haven't hit Ebay yet.

Actually, the store had a bit of promoting going on in the month leading up to all this, but when a FLGS only gets four transport deal boxes and two limited edition Rogue Trader beakies, yay? Things would've gone soo much better if the store also got those cheap trinkets to sell for seven times the regular price.

We have what, 7 or 8 months before 40K actually turns 25?

But they don't so yeah. The Boyz and the Trukk look good.

Perhaps KH is in reality Jervis Johnson, struggling valiantly as the rumor vigilante dressed up as an alien bird against a corrupt GW pricing system.

Maybe I ate him and assimilated his genes

If you did, stand by for an overwhelming attack of baldness in your thirties.

Does anyone know if these are being distributed by online channels at all? I can't seem to find mention of them anywhere.

The Orks, IG and CSM ones is an awesome, the SM one is a bit odd (why not a rhino?). My FLGS has them atm.

Sunday afternoon I saw a Trukk, a DropPod, and three others at my FLGS. This appears to be a Indy special though, and Indy's aren't allowed to sell online.

I wish they kept this idea and added 10 Catachans w/ Chimera. Thanks for posting this though.

Agreed, although that's not very Catachan like to ride around in tanks.

My FLGS has some if anyone's interested in me being a middle man.

Anyone know any Australian FLGS which stock these? Would be a great chance to bulk out my CSM force.

giftsforgeeks.com had them available earlier today, at a discount off RRP, but the likes of Darksphere are already a similar price due to a slightly heavier discount already.

Snatched up a CSM box last Saturday, thinking about going back just to see if there might be one more for me to grab. Good Deal.

If you dont see any, the store owner/manager should still be able to get them in.

The manager at my local shop told me if I wanted any more he could still order them as of last weekend.

I bought two of the chaos ones from Neil. 2013 is the year I'll make a Chaos Space Marine army, but this deal was too good to pass with TWS's discount. I'll always need rhinos and chaos marines, I figure...

Wayland has them up, but just looked at the marine one, you can buy a tac squad and drop pod for 20p less as standard.... odd!

Very odd. Looking at the retail costs and what I paid, I saved $20.25 per box (28.8%) when I include shipping. That's better than TWS's standard 20% off retail price had I bought a Chaos squad and rhino separately.

Wayland has the cadians plus chimera for 30 quid;
The cadians and chimera together cost, with their regular discount, 14,40+16,40 quid, or 30,80 combined.

It's not much of a cost-saver, really.
