Hey, all!
I am a very slow painter, who gets distracted very easily and who often also starts planning his next project half way through his current one which means that I gets demotivated quite quickly from any current projects.
I try to stay on track, but that isn't a guarantee that I will...
HOWEVER, that is where this blog/thread comes in! One of its many purposes is to help motivate me. While there have been times I haven't been motivated (around the last quarter of 2013) this blog (and the Dakka community, of course) have done a good job at keeping me motivated, hopefully in 2014 this continues!
My current project is a Tomb Kings army. I've always liked Ancient Egypt, and Warhammer Fantasy Battles however, 40k was enough already. With 40k becoming crazier every update (that being the main reason for me becoming demotivated in 2013...) I decided to finally start a Tomb Kings army!
So, what's my plan for 2014? Well in addition to my Tomb Kings, I would like to do some more work on my sad slaanesh daemons, especially my Keeper of Secrets (whose head is still incomplete modelling-wise, and the rest is PIP).
Projects:
With my Tomb Kings, I'm going to make it my goal to do the following in 2014:
-> Finish M/P/B all 22 of my Tomb Guard -- 21 PIP
-> Finish M/P/B AT LEAST 25 Skeleton Warriors with Sword and Shield (Hopefully all 40+ of them) -- 30 fully assembled
-> Finish M/P/B AT LEAST 15 Skeleton Archers (Hopefully all 30+ of them) -- 9 fully assembled, 1 PIP
-> Finish M/P/B my 5 Characters for my Tomb Kings (Arkhan the Black, Grand Heirophant Khatep, Tomb Prince, Necrotect & Liche Priest) -- All 5 fully assembled
-> Finish M/P/B my Casket of Souls -- Casket + Keeper Assembled, Guard MIP

Slaanesh Daemons
For my Daemons, I'm going to try and do the following:
-> Finish M/P/B my Keeper of Secrets -- Head MIP, Rest PIP
-> Finish M/P/B my Heralds -- 1 Done, 1 PIP, 1 MIP
-> Finish M/P/B 5 Seekers of Slaanesh (Hopefully all 15-20 of them) -- 15 MIP

Spoiler:
This guy is known as Heavy, and yes, he still isn't built Same with this guy, but first I need to clean the moldlines off him
what a remiss of me! I forgot to mention my scores!
I only used my neurons, but I scored 1 loss and 1 draw.
My first game my opponents got lucky with a whole load of 5's and 6's to penetrate and to work out the damage on my monolith, and my necrons FAILING a moral check WTF!
Not a picture update (what would thewre be to show, besides my monolith's battle damage (i.e. The top bits broke :( )) but I have some news!
I'll be doing some more work on da Tryadz, my orks for those who don't know.
Why? as the title sugests I've joined a Tale of 3 (+) Gamers! (or should that be Gamerz )
Anyway, I'll be making a few things, namely da Crime Lord, so more trukk boyz (with a kick- nob) some gretchin (or mega nobz, can't decide) and some flash gitz (please don't yell at me, please don't yell at me, please don't yell at me, please don't yell at me!)
and Knightly, you may have to wait a BIT longer to see your marine, I'm having some issues finding the bits (sadly the bits I'm talking about are in my bits box, just shows that I need to organise it)
Given up looking for the bits, I'll just spend the 5 or so $ and buy them off EBay, for the guy I usually buy from...
Also, found my VC magic cards, YAY!
And I also found my copy of Caeldor, great High Elf book, I reccomend it
Not much moddeling/paint wise at the moment, but I've proven that Necrons aren't the worst assault army
And the Apoc game was great, really impressed with how my chaos marines did, even without a sing;e Fellbat (Raptor) or Sorcerer to help (yes, I forgot to bring them...)
I only ever lost troops on turn 1
Key moment in the Apoc Battle, killing terminators with bolter spam
Key moment it the Crons vs Tau game, Opponent deepstriking battlesuits, then in the next turn, them getting assaulted by necron warriors and losing combat, then the remenant running away.
Cake=Epic
Model=Epic
I won a quiz BY GUESSING EVERYTHING! (though I did lose points for getting a few questions wrong, but I also got points where I probably shouldn't because, for example, the 1st question was 'Name all the Loyalist Primarchs', all I did was mention the ones I couldn't remeber their exact names/placed down their last name in I didn't know their first)
Anyway, pulled out of tale of gamers for money reasons
Before I go ordering bits for knightly, I would like to know if anyone else would like an Eagle Paladin for the GMS.
Post here on on the GMS thread if you would like one
Also, I've made a plan for what armies I'll start/expand next:
Expand Necrons more
Start SoB Start Nids
Expand Orks
Expand CSM Start SW Expand SoB Expand Nids
Start Evil LotR army
Guess what I got in the mail today Yep, Knightly's marine arrived Thank you Knightly, it looks even better in person And, to add to it, the bitz are being ordered, right now!
Hopefully they can be mailed here as fast as your marine did (although that usually isn't the case )
Anyway, I decided to give you all pics on glomscient's marine once he has a torso and legs, I mean, there's no point showing you a head, 2 arms and a gun
Sorry guys, I basically have no updates
Why, well several reasons:
-Still waiting on the bitz for knightly's and glomscient's marines
-Running low on Badab black, so no CSM or Orks
-GW new paints have stuffed my necrons because 2 of the key colours (Necron Abyss and Regal Blue) share the same pot in the new paint range (Kantor Blue)
yeah, tonnes of negatives
hoping I find my spare pot or a get the bits, necron-wise I'm still deciding if I'll change the scheme accordingly or if I keep on going and hope I don't run out of paint
the only positive s that I finally got to level 18 in Warhammer 40'000: Space Marine' but that really has nothing to do with this
Picked up a box of Haradrim Raiders the other day and I'm planning to convert half of them into Serpent Riders
Once I've made 1 Serpent Rider and 1 Haradrim Raider (and glued them to their bases) I'll show you all (assuming more people than just knightly are still following me )
The Chaos Marines are fantastic, I like the chipped black armor, very Black Legionaire. Alas I am much too timid to try a good crisp suit of black armor on the CSM I have laying around.
And I'd indeed like to see some more Harad. Depressingly few LOTR players.
Thanks for the kind words Actually, it isn't that hard to paint that black
It's just Adeptus Battlegrey, followed by Badab Black, then paint chips on with codex grey, followed by fortress
don't know what that is in the new paint range, though, but if you want I'll check it out
Ok, a lot later than that, but I couldn't get any good photos using my sister's camera.
But, I found my camera and here are pics, plus suprise I got in the mail to day (when I say suprise, I mean suprise as in how quickly it got here )
Oh, and I also tooks pics of the GMS marine I got from knightley
I'm going to try and do a little bit more painting and modelling today, just so when bigfish finally sees this blog he wont yell at me for not painting...
well that plan was a failure
but, n a bright note, I got my Fallen Realms sourcebook been making up some armylists, still haven't come up with a 500pt one I like the feel of yet, though
I know, strange, isn't it With the new update to the ork codex, I'm gonna have to scratch build some planes
Anyway, I think I've found an appropriet left arm, outstretvhed boltpistol.
Unfortunately I can't drill out the barrels, so I'll black-dot them and you can drill them if you want, knightly
Glomscient's won't matter in that regard, he's getting a scratch build stalker bolter
After all this ork planning, I'v realised that I've been negleting my 2 main projects at the moment, crons and harad (with 2 gms marines)
Still need to get started on Glomscients, and I still need to find where I put the bolt pistol arm. I'm I can't find it then I don't know what I'll do...
so, been working on a Necron list, and still figuring out what to do Harad-wise
Glomscient's marine is pretty much done modeling wise, bedieds removing all the modelines and adding.. well, something special to the backpack
Knightly's marine has a few basic basecoats, bad weather here atm...
And my paints are more watery than usual ( ) dunno why as I don't add water to the pot, and I swear they wearn't this watery when I used them last time...
I'm stumped, and as you can tell, I've missed a few spots on his back leg, bad lighting=bad (read ) paint job... (even if it is just a basecoat)
Looking nice, and its only a basecoat! Im sure that he will look great when done. You've inspired me to update my blog, I've done so much that you guys haven't seen :L
1st Sunday of the month = Gaming club meeting First game of 6th (for me) is today.
With my necrons and the FAQ (it's been updated)
Warscythes are AP 1
And now I am deinately going to try and get 2 night scythes for my army, as they (as of the FAQ) have a new rule that allow them to move under 36" and still have the units inside disembark. And they can't hover, but meh. I can stay zooming, only get hit on 6's by non-skyfire units and STILL disembark troops
Happy Birthday to me!
I now have 6th Edition.
Been reading it, and I like most of what I've read.
No udpates today (atm) BUT I will try to get some photos of my WIP Chaos Sorcerer.
Unfortunately not much work done on the GMS marines other than a. give Knightley's a second coat (as the first one was kinda patchy) and b. Fix up Glomscient's marine, the chainsword arm fell/broke off :(
Ah, I see. I thought that you meant broken off in a place other than a join, which happens a lot for me And I know what you are talking about with the keyboard; my t key is a real to press these days, and I'm just noticing the s, too. and a right arrow key? What right arrow key?
Thanks Proto for the happy birthday message via facebook ok, I have a few things to mention, and no pictures, though you'll see why....
1. Got the RTB01 bits! I've sorted them out into sprues, unused loose bits and used bits
so I now have 4 sprues, 1 of them complete (2 if you count the one I used to make a marine)
I have a tonne of powerfists, looks like the previous owner didn't like 'em
k, now 2, which those who's seen my latest post on knightley's thread will know about
My camera, like most technology as of late, hates me.
Go to take photo, goes to gallery. Straight away. No photo taken...
Hmm, with 6th Ed here I want to start a new army...
And (seeming how much trouble I've had in the past with them) I want to attempt a Loyalist Marine army...
But there is a problem... What chapter?
I mean, I love Crimson Fists, and I have the SE Captain model...
But after reading the Black Templar's codex, I love them, too
And Iron hands are epic, love them too because of their bionics & stuff (and their dark colour scheme)
But Raven also have a dark scheme and I love the stealthyness of them...
And then there is the Hunter Eagles... A chapter I've made up fluff for, put in the fluff of my other armies and for this I love them, too
so, yeah....
And I'd love to use the allies rules...
So, yeah...again...
And then I'm thinking about an Inquisitorial Army using C:GK & C:IG, and then a little while ago I stumbled across a thread where some guy was making cheap SOB from DE parts, SM weapons and backpacks & GS, lots of GS...
I can't decide...
and then there is my camera, which has decided to do everything BUT take photos...
Was this "some guy" named glomscient, by any chance? I'd say, use a space marine army, and ally them with sob (if you can find the book). Probably hunter eagles, as if you make a chapter, you might as well use it, imho.
That sucks about your camera. Mine takes pictures, I just can't find my cable.
Ok, now I need to think about how I'm going to make the daemon/traitor guard army/allience thing...
I' thinking either 2 seeker chariots or 1 exalted (both the same thing, really...) 2 boxes of daemonettes and (if I have enough moneyz) command squad + guard squad for my traitor guard allies
Had my first 2 games of 6th yesterday, needless to say, I lost both. Oh, and to add insult to injury, my epic Overlord, who has survived the worst gibblies in the 40k table top game died. k, that isn't too bad, except when he has a 2+/3++ save, & 4+ reanimation protocols, & died to tau. and not just any tau, a Tau fething marker drone. 1 1 1 for his 3 saves, then 1 for RP yeah, not a good day.
oh well, planned updates soon, RTB01 marine with paint, anyone?
(oh, and with the overlord, I charged, so extra wtf)
Curse my ideas... Sometimes they are good, soetimes less so.
And then real life comes in and makes a big mess.
No, I'm still going to do a daemons army, but after looking at WorthyPAINTING's YouTube Channel, I've been inspired to do a pre-heresy truescale marine army, because the guys on the channel have both a truescale DA army and a Pre-Heresy DA army...
At first I was like 'IRON HANDS!', except that the part I love about them (the bionics) weren't really prominent until Post-Heresy, read some IH fluff if you want to know why.
Then I thought 'Ultramarines', but, no, no smurs here
And, then, the BA codex was on my desk. And I remembered the rules for the Sanguinor....
And then I thought 'Wouldn't it be cool to have a Primarch'...
So, yeah, if I do a Pre-Heresy True-Scale marine army, Blood Angels it is...
But then I'm a bit crazy, and we all now how often my ideas become reality.
Ah, I guess then bigger base or having them stand on something is the way to go.
But, also remember for challenges Daemonettes don't actually have squad leaders for some reason. Just one with an icon, instrument and one that just stares at them to make them lose an attack.
K, yes , it is a weekday, but I decided stuff the Geography Assignment I have and build daemons (I'll probably finish most of it tomorrow, anyway... I mean I am half done atm...)
So, a few steads have been built.
Because I didn't glue the daemonettes onto the steeds, I decided to give my command more sleek looking steeds.
So, here they are (plus some more shots of the herald and daemonette squad)
I'll go with 10 seekers for now, then, seeming that's all I have
Hmm, 15-18 is good, hey? well, that will mean that until I get another box of daemonettes I'll have 1 squad of 15 and 1 of 14, plus 1 herald (so it sort-of is ok)
Anyway, today I went to GW, for the store's birthday. Tried to resist buying the exalted chariot because I new I could buy it online for cheaper (or get 2 seeker sets for 4 bases) but I couldn't resist
The store even only had 1 seeker chariot . Yes. I got an exalted...
Even when I knew about a tasty marine update :(
And I didn't have enough money to buy the daemon codex...
but, but, I just saw this when I was deciding how to make my Keeper of Secrets:
gives me so many ideas just looking at it...
Well, I'm on holidays now, tell you all more later and I'll hopefully have WIP pics of the chariot
Now, I just need to find out what my sister has done with the camera (even though she has her own...) I'll have pics of my Exalted Seeker Chariot and Herald.
Oh, and this time I haven't built the entire thing, I'm leaving all but 1 passenger out, and 2 steeds are no where in sight!
Ok, not many updates, but I'm still deciding on colours...
I have no idea...
What colours do oyu think will look good?
Oh, and new Chaos Space Marine Codex No such thing as Undivided CSM Princes, so I've been told... So when I eventually make mine (if ever) I'm going to have to use a 'couts-as' mark... but which one...
EDIT: Oh, and seeming Malal is now officially back in the fluff as Malice, I'm going to have to change my fluff a bit, and maybe come up with a few Malice-Themed Daemon Engines (seeming, now, Malice doesn't have any 'normal' Daemons. Cool thing is, though, now Malice can (provided he has enough sacrifices, and a body to teporarily possess) be summoned into the Materium, unlike his fellow gods! Now I want to make a Chaos Space Marine look like Malice has chosen his body to possess...
Here's a BatRep without pictures, unable to get any seeming I now don't have my own working camera...

Huzzah! Painting!
For those of you that don't know, I'mentering Nerdfest09's painting comp.
Now, while I could have entered my completed aspiring champion, I decided instead to paint another one.
Pics are below!
Oh, and in other news, I found out why my Spacewolf Grey was messed up, it had seperated....
But it's all good now!
Oh, and spot the difference between the base in the first pic, how it looks in the last 3 pics, and (if you saw me make him on my old blog) if it is any different to how it was when I first gave him a base...
I'm going to try and get some better pictures, my WIP pics are better than my completed pic Can't have that!
Should have some pics of a few (minorly) converted Dark Vengeance models, and next up, I going to try and finish Knightley's GMS marine!
Oh, and proto (if you are still watching this blog of mine) still up for a trade?
Hello! I'm here with an update. No better pics of the Aspiring Champ... Sorry.
But I have done some more work on Knightley's GMS Marine, as well as added a new bit onto the one for Glom
Sorry for the picture quality... My sister messed around with the settings... Knightley's marine looks better irl... EDIT: Also, just found this image... I love it...
I FINALLY have the new CSM dex... and boy am I loving it!
I also have a sudden urge I can't explain... now want to make an Emperor's Children army...
I thought I hated Slaaneshi Marines...
But, none of that bad-looking black/bright pink scheme... I'm going to change mine up a tad... Light Pink, Cream/White some black, gold, and pale blue to be exact Hopefully I'll be able to make a test model soon... Though knowing my luck it will probably be after Christmas...
Well, since the release of the new dex, I've been trying to make an Emp Children list I like, but I haven't come up with any...
BUT with the release of The Hobbit, I'm going to make 1 (hopefully 2) lotr armies, Harad and Moria (well, Mount Gundabad...)
EDIT: And no, I'm not going to stop working on my Slaanesh Daemons, I'm gonna try and keep on going with them (hoping to get a Daemon Prince and The Deciever to start work on a greater daemon, and to add so anti-flyer to my list
Well, I finally got a good ammount of progress done to show you.
Knightley's GMS Marine has had some work done on it! Mainly I've redone the skin and blue armour, as well as the freehand, though I need to fix a small bit of the chapter symbol
Also, I've started a test mini for my chaos daemon, and I decided to make their scheme quick and easy, so I actually have some chance in painting them Test mini is not complete, I'm unsure if I want to have purple-fleshed daemons, I think I may want a more 'pale flesh' colour, but I'm still unsure.
Anyway, Pictures!
Oh! And I found out why some of my pictures turn out blue! It's to do with the flash!
Merry Belated Christmas and a Happy Belated New Year to all!
Anyway, I've been messing around with the setting of the camera I've been using, so hopefully picture quality is better!
Been working on Knightley's GMS Marine! (Pics below)
Went to GW on Boxing day, not really wanting to spend cash, but in the end I decided to enter their second conversion comp and came third! Of course, that's not really impressive when you realise that there was only 3 of us... But the staff did say it was a hard decision...
For the Conversion comp we had toconvert something in store in under 3 hours, I used the WHFBVC Banshee and the Seeker Chariot to make a Herald. (Pics below). My frined, who came second, made a Techmarine on a bike. They guy who came first made an iron warrior's Helbrute from an Ironclad, Warpsmith and the DE Talos/Chronos.
Anyway, for Christmas I got C:CD (although apparently a new 'dex is out in Feb for them, grr), a C'Tan Shard of the Deciever (For my KoS conversion), The Hobbit boxed set and a Daemon Prince. Also, on an unrelated note, I got the Lego: Star Wars Super Star Destroyer Executer, Darth Vader's flagship. Built it in under 8 hours, was amazed my hands weren't bleeding... lol
Hmmm I've been thinking, maybe I should make all the Heralds have whips... That could be the way to distinguish them without me having to get termi bases...
Bit of a pita to transport, but if it looks good...
Also, quick list of the minimum that needs to get done on Knightley's Marine:
-Fixing up the Black parts of the armour (cleaning them up, highlighting)
-Painting the Sword's Blade, and fix up any mistakes on the sword
-Paint the gun (all I've done is the casing, lol)
-Pick out the small details (symbols on his armour, purity seals, etc.)
I'll probably try to add some more basic freehand too, it's the least I can do
Also, I'm planning to finish it before May, that's when I first started, so if I finish before then I technically haven't taken a year to paint 1 measily model
Same thing for Glom's, I need to get motivated! (Must drive these thoughts of non GMS Space Marines out of my head, and focus on Daemons and GMS Marines!)
Still painting Knightley's GMS marine, hopefully pics later today.
Anyway, on the topic of painting, I've been thinking about my daemons and whether I should paint them in Pastel or Electric shades. Maybe a combination of both?
I'm glad you're liking it!
should be doing more work on it today, didn't get any done yesterday as I was at GW, playing a game with my friend (I'm really having trouble getting used to demons )
Woot! I think I've fianlly Finished Knightley's GMS Marine! Should hopefully be getting it sent in the next week or 2 (hopefully sooner than later )
So far it looks like Pastel Daemons is the way to go, but I'd still like opinions on which of the 3 choices is the way to go!
Also, I've entered Papa and Panda's Competition.
I was originally planning to enter the KoS I started work on (that's what the clawed arm was on the last page if you hadn't guessed it) but now I'm think of entering a herald, either the one converted from the banshee & seeker chariot kits, or a new one I'm working on! (pics below)
Anyway, with my still-terrible camera skills, pics of Knightley's GMS marine and WIP on my Slaanesh Herald!
Also below is a comparison of the 3 times I've painted the Hunter Eagle's Chapter Symbol, just to show I've definately got better at freehand brushwork in the time I've spent painting Knightley's GMS marine!
Ah, another whore of slaanesh has noticed how vampire counts make great deamonettes/female inquisitors.
But really i do love it when someone converts whf models successfully into 40k, just so awesome you know. Great success.
That's a really cool conversion. Much better than the standard GW herald. She must really stand out amongst the troops. The highlites and shading on the face seen particularly impressive. It's looks like she is wearing eye liner and eye shadow!
Why thank you!
I'm glad you think it looks like she's wearing liner and shadow, I was trying to get that look but didn't know if I succeeded
As I haven't finished painting the troops yet, I don't know how well she'll stand out, but I've painted up a test model and should hopefully have pics of it son! The troops will be lighter in colour so she should
I've entered Comrade and Papa's Round 4 :The Brotherhood round and I've decided on entering some Emperor's Children Chosen... with a command-squad esque look. So there will be a Champion, an Apothecary etc. As well as a vox operator, because why not!
Little mock-up of the vox operater below. C&C? Deciding whether to give him a buckler or not.
List of bits used:
Backpack: DA Backpack/Imperial Guard Vox Caster Head: Hellstriders of Slaanesh Body: Sanguinary Guard Legs: Death Company Arms/Weapons: Chaos Space Marines Box Shoulder Pads: Space Marine Command Squad
Sorry for the bad pics, sister messed with the way I had the settings of the camera... trying to fix.
Along with pics of the Alluress I meant to take photos of a while ago, and of the work I've done painting the chosen legio vox, about 1 fortnight ago the wargaming group I'm part of had our monthly meet. 2nd game with the new daemons trying a different list (with the new herald, too, so 3 heralds in total)
I lost, with my opponent (necrons) getting 8 victory points and me only getting 5, most of which I got in the last turn (again, purge the alien... we always seem to roll that mission)
For the most part, the units were the same. KoS kept his his base mastery level, all alluresses, exalted alluresses and heartseekers had 1 lesser gift, no seeker chariot (only an exalted)
Main change was the daemon prince, upgraded him to be a level 3 psyker rolling on biomancy hoping to get iron arm, didn't get it but he was still a beast. Next time I'll probably only upgrade him to be level 1. Also tried out Excess on a level 2 herald, wasn't too bad. Cacophnic choir and pavane were rolled, pavane being switched to lash.
Never even used choir once... next time I'll probably leave the herald at level 1 for excess
All in all, a fun game. Seekers were useless, though...
Anyway... after making the seeker herald, I have 4 spare steed bodies left... Deciding whether I want more seekers or if I should just convert them into fiend, or leave them for later Fiend conversion idea below (not my models!):
Spoiler:
Though there is another fiend conversion I'd like to do, using nid raveners, similar to this (but probably with steed heads, unsure) (not my model!):
Spoiler:
Thoughts?
Anyway, actual pictures of my stuff, thanks for looking! (C&C would be appreciated ):
Nice work, Matt. I really like the color you've got going. The purplish pink iscdifferent. I also like the line of pale blue down the middle of the claws on the Daemonette.
As for the fiends, I like the second idea better (but I've never really liked those seeker models).
@ Galorn: Thanks for dropping by, and welcome to the blog
@ Yellowbeard: Thanks! Glad you like the colours
@ n0t_u: Maybe I'll wait before I start working on the fiends. Who knows? Maybe GW will bless us with (better looking) plastic fiends soon? Fiends aren't really needed at this point, anyway, gamewise.
Today I'll hopefully (mostly) finish the first chosen, as well as get started painting more daemonettes, maybe even another chosen!
Thanks, Gits, plasma is my bane to, glad I managed to get the result I did!
No pictures as I've been busy of late, have painted, though (yes, I know, pics or t didn't happen ), but I'll wait 'till I fix my chosen. I highlighted him in too-bright a colour so I now have to go back and fix him.
Also started painting the seeker herald, will try to get pics this afternoon (my time) or early tomorrow...
Ok, got some shots of the Herlad. Amazingly the only 2 good shots I got were from behind her... I've gotten the best pic of her front too but it's a bit blurry
Also a blurry pic of a converted autocannon for my chosen and of the Exalted Seeker Chariot, made a few adjustments too it (removed the third platform and 2 of the steeds)
@ n0t_u: the best puns are the bad ones . And thanks
Ok, sorry for not posting in a while, real life is busy (assignments and all) but I have done some work.
For those of you that don't know, I've entered Git's Mantis Maker Challenge. I posted pics a while ago on his blog but here are pics again here for completeness' sake:
Spoiler:
I've started to paint his up, pics at the end. Also working on the second chosen... need to finish him (and then base him and his friend) in 5 days for the comp... not hard, heh...
Then there's pics of a Chaos Lord conversion I've just started work on, though I think it looks too much like the base model (Sigvald the Magnificent), what do you think?
Stuff about what I did today at Games Workshop for Gameworkshop AUS/NZ 's 20th (I think it was 20th) birthday:
Spoiler:
Played an Apoc game, and that's about it. We (Chaos) won, though it did end up being my flying price, 1 night scythe and 1 doom scythe vs 7 deathwing termis... My prince got a new nickname by the end, the Party Prince!
Lot's of people won sprues, I helped them identify a lot of them... even the fantasy ones! I really need to get a life... lol -One guy got some gretching in different poses, without heads, still cool though -he also got some old halflings, minus the heads (he barely had any heads) -he did get some complete necon stuff, and a few complete skeleton warriors
Ate cake, 'nuff said
And that's about it
On to pics! (sorry for the quality, sis played with the setting + bad lighting = vary bad pics)
Thanks, Yellow! Thanks, Gits!
Currently posting this on a freeway between Newcastle and Sydney. I'm on holidays now so I should be able to paint more often and hopefully post more updates.
Can't paint until I get back on Tuesday. Hopefully I don't get carried away playing video games like I did last holidays... especially since I fixed my Steam client and got Dota 2...
So, a while ago I was thinking about fiends and what I could do to convert them, since then I've gotten more ideas...
Previous ideas:
Anyway... after making the seeker herald, I have 4 spare steed bodies left... Deciding whether I want more seekers or if I should just convert them into fiend, or leave them for later
Fiend conversion idea below (not my models!):
Spoiler:
Though there is another fiend conversion I'd like to do, using nid raveners, similar to this (but probably with steed heads, unsure) (not my model!):
Spoiler:
Now, onto the new ones...
I've seen other people use Cold Ones from the DElf Cold One Knights kit, similar to the steed conversion but it requires less work (only need to remove the saddle, not add arms)
Another one I've seen recently was this:
Unsure if it's too big, though. Certainly looks cool, though
Oh course, I could always use the base fiends, but make them look pretty, would cost a lot though.
I could also just use Chaos Spawn... but eh... unsure
Then there's always spider-nettes:
So, yeah, unsure. Help please?
Back now, planning to paint some more daemons this week (hopefully tomorrow). As well as work on the Chosen a bit more (didn't make it in time for the comp, but it allows me to take more time on smaller details I wouldn't have been able to add otherwise)
Just realised by looking at the pictures that there's a few details I missed... such as the skull on his knee and the armour joints. Oh well.
Also, with Comrade and Ruglud's Round 5 :Tank Round: in progress, and non-flying MCs being allowed (and building prior to the cmp no mattering) I finally have an excuse to continue work on my KoS conversion I started awhile back.
And yes, he's still headless and doesn't have a right arm...
Still, perfect excuse, as I said!
Now, the head is the main reason I haven't done much. The head is one of the (if not THE) most important part(s) of a model, I feel, and the head has to be just right. he DP heads look too big (and the only ones left don't really suit the aesthetic I want, anyway) and I can't find an appropriately sized head that I like... I thought about sculpting one.
However, my previous attempts of sculpting anything aside from non-living objects have all proven in failure...So I'm sure I'd do terribly sculpting a face.
However... when thinking later on (i.e., over the weekend when I was in Sydney) I had, what I believe, anyway, to be a brilliant idea. Give him a mask!
It suits the main Slaanesh aesthetic (The Masque) as well as the one I'm going for.
Now I need to decide on what sort of mask to give him. I could give him a simple one, similar to this:
Spoiler:
or a more fancy one, similar to the ones worn by 'The Masked Ones' in the Deltora Quest book series:
Spoiler:
I'm thinking simple for now, just because I'm less likely to screw it up. Because of The Masque, I feel like using Comedy or Tragedy as the mask is good idea, although something like this
Spoiler:
would be cool, too. It would also add more character to he model.
Of course, I could always make a mask similar to Guy Fawkes':
Spoiler:
so, yeah... thinking to be done, but it least it means I'll get (one of) my centrepiece model(s) for my Slaanesh Daemons done, all being well.
Yes, yes it does Also, I know this is a while ago, but if I seemed ungrateful for your comment about me and my miniature and my skills improving, believe me, I wasn't and thank you for that comment.
Now then, back to the KoS!
He (she/it?) now has a left arm! With a whip, oc, what else, lol!
I used one of the hand from the Hellstriders of Slaanesh kit, god that kit is becoming my favorite for Slaanesh Marine and Daemon pieces Even before I got that kit I was planning to use a whip, planning to use the one from the Seeker Chariot kit, though I was unsure how I was going to do such a thing, the hand on the seeker whip is way too small!
Also worked on the head, made using Greenstuff, spare horns form the seekers of slaanesh kit and, believe it or not, a Gretchin head!
Well, enough of me blabbering, here are the pics! (Maybe I'll finish in time? I hope I do, hard to beleive it's just over 6 months since I started converting the Deciever into a KoS!)
The mask is going to be the hard bit... unsure how I'm going to do that yet... maybe paper as a base with a bit of greenstuff to add detail/bulk it out?
Well, pics! (I know, second time I've said that... hey! I get distracted... a lot...)
Well, I'm getting very close to then line, but my KoS is ready to spray black... almost.
That goddamn mask... got the shape right twice yesterday then ruined it when trying to add eyes/mouth... after 3 more attempts I decided to just paint those details on if it was going to be that much trouble... but now I can't get the shape right...
So, I'm spraying everything but the head, at least I'll get most of it done...
So, then, any ideas on how I could make this mask?
Also, forget to mention before, twas my Birthday last Tuesday, so happy birthday to me!
Didn't get anything wargaming related, unless you count money... because inevitably that's probably what I'll end up spending it on...
Any, painting work done so far of the KoS, skin isn't as blue as it seems in the pics, but oh well.
Really, the skin is the only thing done, base is still WIP, cloth is still WIP, claw is still WIP and the actual whip... well, you can guess that
Anyway, I've bought the Apoc rulebook and the Apoc Templates. Rulebook should arrive in the next fortnight
Forgot to mention before, at my gaming clubs monthly meet I played another game, a double battle. Daemons (me) and Tau vs DA and BA. We won in the end
Went to GW today. They had a special mission, bring 750pts and try to kill the new Apoc C'tan thing, I failed twice to do so. That thing is tough!
Small break on the painting the KoS while I work on something else. A new seeker chariot. Also hoping to convert The Masque so I can field the Grand Promenade in Apoc
Heh Heh... Well, I'm back from the grav...tomb and back into some modelling action!
So, what's happened since last post?
Admittedly, probably not as much as I should have done....
But, some stuff did happen!
Firstly, around the end of September/star of October, my local GW store had its birthday. I won 2 things there, 1 of the minor prizes and the main prize, a box of seekers (minus the bases) and the LE Salamanders Codex! (which I have no use for currently )
2 months of little progress (final term, many assignments, you know the deal), fast forward to December.
Got some wargaming stuff for Christmas from my parents.
Next day, GW had their Christmas party, I went to it and won some stuff (some artwork & some skinks, may come in handy if I start a Salamanders army ) and has a good game. For the first time ever I won a speed painting competition! Huzzah, I'm getting faster/better!
Ok, so what have I been working on exactly? Well, I've started Tomb Kings. I've been working on them for a few months (very slowly) but still working on them none-the-less. So why haven't I been posting updates, you may ask?
2 main reasons:
a) I'm slack... as always
and b) for once, a legitimate reason! My camera's charger has gone missing... and I still haven't found it. (But I found the charging cord for my other camera recently, hence this update!)
So, here are a few pics! (more pics to come later, hopefully)
Spoiler:
5 of my Characters.
From left to right:
Arkhan the Black (Special Character), Grand Heirophant Khatep (Special Character), Tomb Prince, Necrotect (missing an arm) & a Liche Priest
Spoiler:
And one of Tomb Guard, who I've been testing my colour scheme on (only thing you van really test on a skeleton warrior is bone and the base, not the fancy stuff)
Well, that's enough from me, sorry for how long it took to update!
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks for looking,
M.K
Well, I didn't do anything major after the last update. Really, all I did was attach the Necrotects arm.
However, I did go to see Desolation of Smaug and I enjoyed it!
Will slowly get picks of the other stuff I worked on previously, but for now here's the Necrotect, as well as progress on the Casket of Souls, Sphinx (unsure which sphinx I should make, thinking Necro at the moment, though) and some more tomb guard (lighting isn't the best, sorry!)
Welcome to the Sand of Nehekhara! Make sure to check out the Tomb Kings of Khemri forums!
On the Sphinx- make the Warsphinx for your first- the bits from the Necrosphinx are usable to create a Heirotitan or Necrolith Colossus- the Titan especially is very useful, as Tomb Kings are heavily reliant on their magic phase.
Thanks for the welcome, Anvil! I have checked of the Khemri forums, great for tips and inspiration
Sounds like a plan with the sphinx/titan!
EDIT: Well, I've made my goals for 2014. First post has been updated but for completeness' sake, here are the goals:
With my Tomb Kings, I'm going to make it my goal to do the following in 2014:
-> Finish M/P/B all 22 of my Tomb Guard -- 21 fully assembled, 5 PIP -> Finish M/P/B AT LEAST 25 Skeleton Warriors with Sword and Shield (Hopefully all 40+ of them) -- 30 fully assembled -> Finish M/P/B AT LEAST 15 Skeleton Archers (Hopefully all 30+ of them) -- 9 fully assembled, 1 PIP -> Finish M/P/B my 5 Characters for my Tomb Kings (Arkhan the Black, Grand Heirophant Khatep, Tomb Prince, Necrotect & Liche Priest) -- All 5 fully assembled -> Finish M/P/B my Casket of Souls -- Casket + Keeper Assembled, Guard MIP
For my Daemons, I'm going to try and do the following:
-> Finish M/P/B my Keeper of Secrets -- Head MIP, Rest PIP -> Finish M/P/B my Heralds -- 1 Done, 1 PIP, 1 MIP -> Finish M/P/B 5 Seekers of Slaanesh (Hopefully all 15-20 of them) -- 15 MIP
Got some more progress done! 21 of mt Tomb Guard are now in the PIP stage! ok... I've only done the bone but still, pretty good for me!
Hoping to get some more work done on them later today, we'll see how that goes, though!
You'll notice 1 unpainted guy with no arms in the front rank, he's my 22nd Tomb Guard. Unsure if I want him to be a musician or not, so I've left him as is for the time being.
So, here they are!
Spoiler:
Matt.Kingsley's 2014 Goals wrote:

Ok, no pictures for now, mainly because I don't feel they're that necessary at this stage.
However, I've just finished basecoating the blue areas on the Tomb Guard. I'm starting to regret the body I chose for Captain and the heads I chose for the first rank, though
Been working on my Tomb Guard (slowly, but not as slow as normal) for the past few days. They still aren't complete, but I've done a good amount on them!
The blue (and yellow) have been given a wash and only need a few small highlights, the bandages are done, the bases have been basecoated and they are looking far more complete than before!
Still need to paint the metals (gold and copper/bronze) as well as the weapon hafts, as well as complete the bases and do a few touch-ups, but that should be it! (I may have missed something, but I think that's all I need to do!)
Still haven't finished assembling the last guy, he looks kind of sad among his fellows... Will need to decide if I want a musician soon.
Well, here they are:
Spoiler:
I should probably be concentrating on finishing the assembly of my warriors/archers/horse archers so I can at least have a game with them, but I'm (finally ) having fun painting...
Well, for the copper/bronze, I was thinking of doing it similar to this, just with less steps (probably just the initial basecoat and the washes, with a brighter highlight for characters)
Unsure about the hafts, I'll probably have a go at making it look like Sycamore wood.
Well, I got the paints I needed for the bronze, and I've began to start painting the unit! Got 11 models bronzed up so far (though only 10 are pictured). So, how does it look?
Also played a game, too. Unsurprisingly, I lost. Damn I hate Dawn Attack... really annoying mission (random deployment).
It's been really hot the past few days, so hot that I haven't actually painted at home. I painted 9 model at GW when I bought the paint (the new manager has already done more than the previous one in the past week! He's made the store seem more spacious, and reorganised all the stock) and the other 2 yesterday at the gaming club I'm part of (after watching some of the guys play X-Wing).
Hopefully it cools down a bit so I can paint more comfortably,
Thanks for looking!
M.K
Well, I was hoping to update in the past week but I never got around to it.
Again, the weather is annoying. Either too hot to paint comfortably and too humid for the paint to dry, or pouring with rain.
As well as that, school has started again, so even less time to paint.
However, I did get some more work done today, modelling-wise, not painting-wise. I've assembled the final (for know) Tomb Guard, making him a musician. Will get pics of him later on. Also worked on more grunts, the archers and the warriors. Those units are slowly but surely being assembled!
2nd group meet tomorrow for the club, and unlike the last one the other fantasy player is coming, meaning I can have my 2nd game with my Tomb Kings! (Probably will end up using a different list, though)
Well this shows just how much school can 'interfere' (even if it is the priority) with wargaming!
Long time no see guys! School got heavy, fast (final year and all that) especially when your electives are either the hardest or most work intensive subjects your school offers (heh heh, Maths C: the hardest of the maths, Physics, Art and Film for those wondering)
But it is holiday time again! 2 weeks (well, 1 and a half now) to get as much progress I can before school comes around again!
I did get some progress done in the term, but not enough worth showing in all honesty. Did a small amount of work in between playing games and, well, work. Mainly painting the Tomb Captain a bit, testing out a different take on gold (less vibrant, more washed out). It's only a basecoat, but it looks good so far if I do say so myself. I've messed about a bit more with the camera settings, trying to get a more realistic picture (the last few were a tad washed out), mainly because my sister had changed them completely. After a few attempts I've gotten a good picture (or at the very least, better).
Aside from a small amount of painting on the Tomb Guard and the process of assembling archers, I also assembled half a box of haradrim warriors I had lying around, mainly because I was a bit bored with assembling the annoying skeles.
I've also had a few games, both with TK and Daemons.
I still have yet to win one game with my TK, but I'm still fairly new to them and fantasy in general, so that's to be expected.
With my Daemons I've been doing quite well, almost too well in fact. My last game with them was a total victory, even though I had less troops then my opponents (we were playing a 2V1, me being the 1). Seeker Heralds with AP2 weapons are devasting... especially when you make you opponents have -1 T and S... 6 Str 5 AP2 attacks re-rolling failed hits... yikes! I was quite lucky with the powers I got!
Playing a special game of fantasy this afternoon, 1000pts per player team match. Maybe I'll be able to win a game in fantasy for once! (no doubt thanks to my team mates taking the brunt of the enemies' blows while I rain arrows down upon them)
Be aware (and I think you are, considering I believe I've seen you on the TK forums) that Tomb Kings, though definitely the best looking of the Fantasy armies, are also one of the hardest to play effectively. They make you think hard about positioning and averages and chances, and teach you a deep appreciation for tactics, strategies, and good winds of magic rolls.
It's honestly no wonder you're doing well with your Daemons- they are, in a way, TK easy mode.
@Anvil: Yes, I am aware of the challenges of Tomb Kings and I did expect this outcome (especially with every 2/3 or maybe even 4/5 people around here playing Chaos Warriors). I'm slowly warming up to the play style, though I'm very far from mastering it!
Well, the game yesterday was fun! Massive siege game that went for 8-9 hours. I was one of two players who had survived from the beginning, even with my Tomb Kings taking the brunt of the enemy's assault. In all there were 7 attackers and 5 defenders, though all weren't playing at one time. The maximum number of defenders and attackers at one time was 4.
Highlight for me involved Dawi (Dwarven) allies meeting their doom At around T3 a Daemon Slayer rushes out of the fortress gates into an approaching horde of Savage Orks, targeting (challenging)their warboss, slaying him in single combat and causing his boys to flee. What made it even better was that he overran into them... he wiped out a whole unit of orks by himself Then the glorious tale of Belegar... who charged out the gates only to find himself alone with no way of getting back in. Though he met his doom, he destroyed a unit of 3 skullcrushers, hound and managed to tie up a buffed daemon prince for a few turns, even getting close to slaying it!
Once again my Tomb Guard survived the entire game... even if they didn't do anything but play target practice for the chaos gods. I really need to get around to naming these guys for their deeds, even with the heirophant down they would not fall...
Before heading off to the cinema to watch the new Captain America movie, which I enjoyed greatly compared to the last one which I hated, I got some more work done on my Tomb Captain.
He's not quite done yet, still a few minor touch ups to go, but he should be finished soon! Now I need to paint his shield...
So, without further ado, pics!
Spoiler:
And with some of his fellow Tomb Guard (that aren't done yet):
Thanks, Gits!
I'm not quite sure, tbh. Initially I was going to (though I hoped I wouldn't have to), but after browsing Google Images, it seems that the bandages are usually the same colour after all the years in a tomb.
I'm thinking yes at the moment, but that is not a definite.
Back with an update!
Painted 2 more Tomb Guard to the same standards as the Tomb Captain while watching the Lion King, because why not
Hopefully the picture turned out alright, I messed about by finally setting up a make shift photobooth for my minis, though I need some light (the sun will do for now, though).
So here they are!
Spoiler:
And finally a shot of their bases, because I realised I haven't really done any photos where you can easily see the bases:
