Once again Yang is hosting a tournament at Turn6. For those that don't know much about it here's the thread from the Summer Tournament:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/384943.page
The rules and requirements are the same as last years...Though if you do have any queries just send me a PM and I will give you Yangs information so you can contact him directly. I will be asking him some questions regarding the new Necrons since I plan on taking them this time (though I am once again rushing to get the army built on time). Which reminds me. The tournament begins on Saturday 18th of February. Anyone wishing to sign up better be fast.
Last years Tournament was a blast, if a bit unorganized. The length of the thing is a bit daunting since it's just knockouts each round till the semi-finals. If you wish to take part be prepared for the long haul. I will be discussing with Yang how to make the tournament more efficient time-wise since that was by far the biggest downer for everyone. I will also be doing my best this year to get more pics and will try to encourage other players to send me theirs as well so that's something for everyone to look forward to.
Would love to see some new faces enter the competitive scene over here for those that have the time. Mray01from Dakka took first place last year with his Purifier Grey Knights ...is anyone up to the challenge of knocking him off his top spot?

I know you're bringing your "foamcrons". Cmac I'm guessing is bringing DE. What's Mark bringing? What about other armies you guys may see?
Gamin in Asia sounds like fun!

Post by: Lukus83
Cmac may be bringing SW, DE or BA. It depends on what he can get his hands on. Mark should be bringing GK though Vanilla marines are still on the cards. A lot of the guys are being pretty secretive about what they are bringing...we won't see it till it's on the table tomorrow. Other potential worrying armies are Orks (lots played last time with several players getting through to the final stages. Once came 2nd), IG (normally runs fluffy lists but this year he may be pulling out all the stops with an AV12 spam list) and SW. If the SW player joins we are looking at 7 lasplas razorbacks, 15 Longfangs and a lot of Grey Hunters. Ouch. Hoping he makes it to the tourney. If so all the expats are in this year.
Mark and I actually don't play tomorrow though. Since we came in the final 4 last time we get automatic entry through the first round. In Marks case it means he gets to scope out the potential competition and for me it means I get the time to finish my Scythes. Will be heading down to see the games for sure though and will get some pics to put up. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I would also like to point out that the address has changed since Yang has opened a new store. Can't give it out though as, despite my many, many calls to Yang, he still hasn't told me where it is. Looking to change that today.

The tournament has now begun and I have a few more details to add. Finally got the address for those who want to swing by: 643 Hankou Road near People Square. It's a nice place in a convenient location. 3 gaming tables (though only 2 are being used for tournament play) and a lot of stock.
There are 4 groups, 1 with 8 players, 3 with 7. Each group has 1 of the top 4 players of last years tournament and 3 of them are auto-in. To create a match-up for the additional player in the final group it was randomly determined which top player from last time wouldn't go through the first round automatically. It's me!!! So I have to fight for the privilege VS a BA player. my first round game is Saturday next week.
Managed to see 2 games going on yesterday though I only took a handful of pics of one of them since the wife dropped by for lunch. Will be posting them later on. It was Sun's WWP DE vs a new SW player. Despite the fact that Sun is a vet he was out of practise and it showed. The new guy had 2 golden opportunities to take the game and put himself in a strong position. All he needed were a couple of dice rolls. But it wasn't to be. Towards the end it was looking like a tabling and all the scoring units were gone from the SW side so they called it. I'll try to clarify the lists when I get the pics.
The other game going on was BA vs a lot of Orks. When looking at the table it was obvious the BA player had thrown a load of points into expensive characters and upgrades...perhaps 20 models on the table total. We imagined the Ork player was going to just stomp all over him. When they called it it was the BA player who took the victory. All his Ork mobs had no PKs.10 Nob Bikers, no PKs. It was crazy.
Today is Mrays first game. I think he is facing the BA player, though I can't confirm since other games did happen after we left. I have asked him to get pics though.
In other (related) news Cmac bought Mech DE and Mray is running a different Purifier list. Should be a fun tournament, though Mark and I are giggling about the groupings. Cmac, Sun, a vet Chinese player (came 2nd last time...this time he has Daemons) and the host (Yang) are all the same group. A lot of people are going home early

I think Mark's Purifier GK's are going to be a tough army to play against. Luckily for the fragile DE and your scythe-crons, he's only bringing 3 dreads. Unfortunately for you guys, they are venerables (I think). His purifiers kind of look like my army, though with 1 less dread.
Nob bikers without a PK?!? That's certainly interesting indeed. Sounds like the BA player is playing Dante, Mephiston, sanguinary guards and perhaps stormravens? Well, unorthodox army versus unorthodox army....
Interested in hearing more about the tournament. I think you have a very good necron army, though you may struggle against shooty MSU armies.

Yip, looks interesting enough.
Currently, I really like the play style of the BT's, but its just not quite right codex wise at the moment, so BA's are the next best choice. Wanted to run an AV 13 wall with some DOA but couldn't get the 6 preds in time. So yeah, modified the DE list for the expected meta and came up with;
Haem w Liq
Wyches x 8, hek, ag, hw gren in raider w FF and NS
Warriors x 5, blaster in venom w SC and NS (x2)
Warriors x 5, blaster in raider w FF and NS (x2)
Wracks x 3, raider w FF and NS
Trueborn x 4, Blaster x 4, venom w SC and NS (x3)
Ravager w FF and NS (x3)
12 Vehicles, 29 Dark Light weapons, 60 poison shots.
With Lukas's scythe spam, AI and CC have been removed as a necessity and points spent here are wasted. There is a good chance the foam pancakes may make it far in the tournament and I was expecting to face 6 psy dreads so I loaded AT heavy. I'm mostly worried about horde armies.
Game 1
Wow, razor spam SW right off the bat.
Rune Priest - chooser of the slain, storm caller, living lightning
Lone wolf
4 T/L las razors
4 Las/ plas razors
5 man squads of GK with melta x 5
Wolf guard with combi melta and PF x 4 w DP
LF x 6 x 3 ML
Scouts w melta and PF
We swapped lists a day before the game and this is a tough matchup for my girls. 15 ML, 8 lascan and LL with chooser. Chooser meant I couldn't snipe the empty pod and scouts then go hide. Potentially he can demech me in 1-2 turns.
KP's and pitched battle, DE get initiative. He forgot to deploy his LW so I let him reserve it.
With KP's I figured I had to go for the throat, I set up in the middle looking to alpha, he castled in a corner and deployed the scouts infiltrating to bait me on the far side. Didn't seize...... Wolf guard went with the LF's, which seemed a bit odd, but they made 8/9 saves as ablative wounds.
DE t1: All bar 1 trueborn squad and the wyches who boost to get those fangs get to a firing position, full disembark from the girls and the sky darkens with the rain of death.
Alpha nets;
4 dead RB's, unfortunately one stays as a cover shield for the rest of the game.
1 Immo RB
1 WD RB
2 dead GK's from explosions, 1 pinned squad
6 dead LF's (1 may be a WG)
Happy with the result with the aggressive move.
KP 4-0
SW t1: His vehicles are blocked in apart from a WD RB which moves up to disembark a squad to hit some trueborn but they fluff. LF's and remaining RB's stay put and get 4 of my vehicles and a few girls in explosions. This game I made 8 Ld tests and failed 6. Heh. A warrior squad below half falls as do a tb squad who regroup. Wyches pinned, which was annoying as I wanted them to silence the LF's next turn.
KP 4-5
DE t2
TB regroup. Currently below on KP's but we get to blaze away this turn. Most of the army gets back in the transports and we shuffle 6". The remaining razorbacks are cleared or neutered and dark light can turn to LF's. One squad of LF's is killed and another reduced to 2 who fail, run but then get back into it. The scouts have been ignored in their corner. DP killed, and closest 5 man cleared.
KP 10-5
SW t 2
The remaining LF and RP get a kill and he calls it, it was getting late and his hot Chinese GF came in so he had better things to do but the game was gone. Nice guy to play.
Summary and thoughts
- guy had a strong scary list but forgot his storm caller and the LW deployment. He moved and deployed well to get the 3+ cover save but the alpha really got him
- NS's are awesome. I could have used them to run from the LF's, but LL could have been 1 KP/turn. The huge benefit they had was neutering the plentiful melta, bolter (tesla, psycannon) etc. Saved me 2-3 vehicles which could then get me KP's. It also creats different "happy zones" for every army which changes your deployment and strategy which keeps the game interesting. Then switch to WWP for a while, its a nice army.
- Wouldn't mind some grisly trophies
- I didn't need CC
- 29 dark light weapons helps demeching the opponent
- 5 venoms is still good
The Next Match
I will play a girl soon She is a BA player who is smart and knows the rules like a woman knows her inner bits, Lucas and Mray have played her before I believe.
Her list (draft, should receive tomorrow)
Meph
The 2+ FNP dude
SR with all the guns
LR's x 2
Assault squads
Libby Dread
DC Dread
Bike squad
Looks interesting, the LR's and SR's can make short work of my force which doesn't like split fire. If I get first turn, I will probably force her into reserve otherwise its an easier alpha than the SW's, but the game has dice. If she gets first turn, i'll have to weigh up the situation depending on mission (of course).
Sun played a Fate Crusher list today with his WWP DE. 2 obj. Unfortunately Sun didn't have enough shooting to utilise the mobility bonus to soften the force before it hit. Sun's core CC was destroyed but he played well to the end to create a draw. He lost on victory points as the main bulk of the demons were still rampaging.
So, the remaining demon player who plays me or the BA girl to go to the semi's is;
Fateweaver
Bloodthirster
3? x 5 Nurgle troops
8 Bloodcrushers
Soul Grinder
3 Flamers x 2
DP with Pavane x 2
(I think that's it)
Mech DE would be a horrible matchup for this list. The BA will be a problem though.

I don't suppose anyone got any pics yesterday? Mine will be up either today or tomorrow. Rushing to get the Scythes done now as I had some set-backs with dissolving foam and this week there are only really 3 days to utilize (2 birthday evenings out).
You are playing dudu next. That means she beat Yang. She knows the rules well but she gets intimidated easily. Last time Mark faced here she tried to keep her Landraider, Mephiston and Stormraven out of psycannon range (while still allowing his psyfleman dreads shots???). If she had gone for the throat with everything she may well have knocked Mark out last time. She's the kind of player that learns from her mistakes though so don't expect an easy ride.

Don't worry about painted or not painted, just take pics if the opportunity presents itself and post them up. I plan on doing just that with all the games I get to see.
Like I said dude, we got lucky match-ups pre-semis. Will get much tougher once we get through to beat up on each other. I feel sorry for all the great gamers in Suns group who are getting knocked out just because of the groupings, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Though it may mean something less brutal might make it through to the semi's from the other group that no-one competitive is in. Would be great to see a new player make it that far.

So I don't know the guy I'm facing but he is also bringing BA to the party. Yang gave me his list and it's something like:
Mephiston
Sanguinor
5x Assault terminators (3x TH/SS, 2x LC)
dedicated regular Landraider
San Priest
San Priest
10x marines w/ flamer, ML, PF
5x Scouts w/ Sniper rifles
5x Scouts w/ PF
Vindicator
Vindicator
Dev Squad w/ 4x ML
I think that's it. Looking at the list it seems very click and play. Throw your hammers forward while staying in that 6" bubble and try to keep your Troops at the back with a San Priest for added resiliency. I might be able to take advantage of this with my Doom Scythe lines and CC Barges, but he is fast and that could cause problems if he gets first turn and I haven't deployed well. Will see how it goes.

So this is what I got from Sun's first game. DE win first turn but in a twist of fate SW steal. Seize ground (3 objectives with Tau Stealth suits as objectives...Scout is CotS for the Rune Priest). :
The lists (from memory and not entirely accurate):
DE
2x Haemi w/ Portal. 1 w/ shattershard
4x blaster born. Dedicated venom
5x Scourge. 2x Heat Lance
5/6 Reavers. 2x Heat lance
5x Wracks
Talos
15x Wyches w/ agonizer and haywires
15x Wyches w/ agonizer and haywires
SW
Logan
Rune Priest w/ living lightning and JotWW. CotS
10 Wolf Guard w/ wound allocation. Some termi suits w/ CML and TH/SS
10 Wolf Guard w/ wound allocation. Some termi suits w/ CML and TH/SS
10 Wolf Guard w/ wound allocation. Some termi suits w/ CML and TH/SS
6x LF w/ 5x ML
6x LF w/ 5x ML
6x LF w/ 5x ML
I mentioned it before but I figured now the details are up I can say where the key game changers could have been. 1 was when the SW stole. Here they had a great opportunity to come in Turn 1, use Logan's Relentless on a unit of LF (comnined with 20 pre-deployed bolters as well) and blow away the Haemi in the centre. Unfortunately luck wasn't on the SW side as he failed is night fight roll, even with the re-roll. The 2nd was even more excruciating.
On Turn 2 a lot of DE came in and they pushed hard ready for a crazy assault phase after softening the WG up with shooting. Unfortunately the splinter shooting was mediocre and the DE were forced to assault large squads. All squads passed Counter-attack and then Logan used his Living Legend special rule to give most of the WG 5 attacks each!!! We all thought this was going to end horribly, especially in Logans unit where there was him and 2 TH/SS WG around after Wyches attack. Unfortunately the unit fluffed (2 out of 15 attacks hit) and though these got through the Wyche invulnerable saves it was only enough to force a drawn combat. Elsewhere the other WG were killed to a man before getting to strike due to horrible saves. After that it became a very one-sided game, my wife popped in and I stopped taking pics.
More coming soon

So how often do you guys play the tournament games? 2/week? It's an interesting format.
9345
Post by: Lukus83
Yeah the format takes up quite a bit of everyones time, but it's the only way to make it fit around the players. A lot of guys out here work weekends so doing it over a single one really means a lot of guys miss out. We try to get in at least 1 game a week, though some get in more. I am arranging game 2 for some time this week so pics will be coming after the game. Automatically Appended Next Post: Overall the top 4 players will only play 5 games total. Everyone else will play 3. The organization seems to be a bit better than last time so hopefully all games will be done within a month.

My de got taken out on kill points to the ba.
She won first turn, 13 kps v 23.
Got the sr down early enough, but 80+ dark light shots over the rest of the game couldn't kill anything.
She played well and used her dreads for cover for the lr well, credit to her.
Ended 8-6 in kps which gives an indication of the stuff I had left that couldn't function. A problem with the de list, heat lances might need to be included for more reliable killing, sometimes str 8 lance just fails, even in bulk.
First turn a razorback well up with meph inside took 27 dark light shots before perishing to the last one. Wyches then charged a full wound meph and actually won over a few rounds, heh. Reroll to wound was handy.
A number of situations where it would have been better if dice came my way, especially the wyches needing a 5 total for a consolidation and a fleet which would have cleared my area and freed up sme shots. Didn't happen, 2 and 1. Agoniser got against Corello but fluffed twice. 27 chances for a 6 to wound a Sergeant and no 6.
Oh well, thems the breaks! De suffer from a lack of rerolls.
Good luck to those still in!
I might have to become a new dex fanboy.

That's too bad, cmac.
Sometimes your dice just abaddons you, and you're playing on your biggest weakness - kill points.
Better luck next year.

Thanks buddy.
The DE mech spam seems like one that can go all the way, IF things go right. It hasn't got the reliablility that I like to go with heading into a tournament. For casual games I think I will switch to WWP, its just a fun list to run where any side can dominate. Hence, more fun.
The demon player watched the game and was quite relieved with the BA win ;-P.
Playing the mech DE spam is also a little boring to be honest.
BT's is an army that holds a lot of interest to me, that might be the next project. Any ideas on release dates?

Haven't been keeping up on the rumour mills, but I don't think BT's are coming out anytime soon.
However, BT's are a top-tier tournament build. Most people just don't know it. For some good, solid battle reports, check out Dave Fay's battle reports. He's really good with BT.

Crowe
Inquisitor w/ rad and psychotroke grenades
9 purifiers. 2 hammers, 1 stave, 6 halberds
5 purifiers. 2 psycannons and a TLLC razorback
5 purifiers. 2 psycannons and a TLLC razorback
5 purifiers. 2 psycannons and a TLLC razorback
5 purifiers. 2 psycannons and a psybolt razorback
Psybolt dreadnaught
Psybolt dreadnaught
Land raider w/ searchlight.
I could very well be going home tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Good Luck, Lukas. Looking forward to hear how it urns out. That's a pretty tough list to face!
9345
Post by: Lukus83
Haha cheers. I think I'm gonna need it. I'm looking at the potential different ways he may use the list. Obviously very shooty but he can't actually use those Psycannons until he comes out of the Razorbacks. So I need to think about how he plans on using them and therefore how best I can counter:
1. He pushes hard with everything. Pops smoke first chance he gets. Then he disembarks midway next turn and just saturates the field with pretty much all the guns in his arsenal.
2. He sits back waiting for me to come at him and pop his Razoracks. Psycannons are essentially used as a counter-shoot unit.
I don't really like either but 2 is probably better for me as I can use mobility to position myself with cover saves and initiate night-fight to reduce incoming fire until my alpha strike resolves.
With number 1 I guess I would be looking at doing my alpha strike with smoke saves on everything. I really don't think I would have enough redundancy to deal with all he would be bringing to bear. Will be doing dice practise and a lot of theoryhammering tonight since I really think this is the option he will take (I know I would).

Ok this is going to have to be a very quick update from me. Unfortunately I didn't get pics of my last game (so no batrep) due to how late the game started, but it was so one-sided it barely matters.
Short version: I got my butt handed to me.
Slightly longer version: I had a plan to avoid his Purifier shooting if possible and play grab the objective (CandC mission)Turn 5/6/7 with my mobility reserved. Unfortunately I got lost in the killing and staryed from my strategy thinking I would be able to hit him hard. Didn't work and I was struggling not to be tabled. my own fault and it's a mistake I won't be making next time.
In other news Mray made it to the semi's and is now facing the GK player that beat me. Will be an interesting match for sure.
Another thing that has come to my attention is that the Chinese community has now started playing a lot better and bringing harder lists than previous years. Previously it was mostly expats who had high rankings. This year only 1 of us has made it through. Can't wait to see what the competition looks like next time.

Luke - you need to post your game..
My game with Imperial guard was quite tough.
Overview:
his List (as I remember):
~5-6 Chimeras with vet squads and meltas (A LOT OF MELTA!!!)
- solo guy that has demo charge
- manticore
- vendetta
- Plasma Leman Russ
- Reg. Leman Russ
- Chemical Hell Hound
- Melta Hell Hound
Mission - 1 objective each
Deplpyment - Corners
Guard wins initiative...
Overall big shooting match, in the end I was not able to contest his objective but I had him pinned in his corner so he could not get to mine. He knocked out my mobility rather quickly, Blew up a Rhino and immobilized 2 first turn, next turn immobilized 2 more...All I really had mobile was the Razor back which ALMOST made it to his objective.
So, ended in a DRAW so we had to go to vicotry points...
He killed:
1 Ven Dred
3 Rhinos
Half Points on:
Crowe - who lost a wound to an exploding Chimera - seriously...
2 Rhino
1 Razorback ( BTW - one of my rhinos actually reparied its immobilize result on the last turn )
2 Purifier Squads
Overall he got about 700 VPs
I killed:
2 Hellhounds
Plasma Leman Russ
Dude with a demo charge
vendetta
3 chimeras
1 vet squad
Half points on
1 chimera
2 vet squads
I got about 1000-1100 VPS so Victory to me
Below are some of the pics - game got a bit too intense towards the end so i forgot to take photos

Some photos
Sorry but this is all i had as i forgot to take more photos Automatically Appended Next Post: also, I deployed relatively spread out because of the manticore...i figured up to three STR 10 shots would wreck my entire army if i did not spread out a bit

Well, now that Luke is out it doesn't seem like anybody is reading this any more, but here goes:
I am in the semi finals with my grey knights - and I will be facing grey knights.
It will be best of 3 games and their list is as follows (about)
Crowe
Inquisitor with Rad and Psychostroke Grenades
Purifier Squad [9], 2 psycannons [?] 2 Hammers, Warding Stave
4 x Purifiers [5] 2 psycannons, maybe hammer or warding stave i am not sure
2 x las backs
1 x psyback
2 x psyflemen Dreads
1 x Landraider
9 man unit and inqisitor act as deathstar in land raider, rest of army is fire support.
My analysis - I am worried about the deathstar unit and the landraider, my army does have a problem with AV 14, however i do have a lot of psycannon shots.
He basically has 5 las cannons and 4 autocannon shots per turn, as his psycannons are in transports with no fire points (unless he gets out)
I have 6 autocannon shots, and 10 psycannon shots...
Target priority is as follows:
my Ven Dreads - to go after his las backs then after his dreads
Be non- agressive, wait for him to get within 24 with his landraider and unload all my psycannons at it - should pop it
Then the goal is to shoot the hell out of the squad inside until that inquisitor is dead - she just gives his purifiers too much of an advantage on first round of combat.
If i fail to immobilize the landraider, i will have to send a suicide squad to bait them out of the vehicle
I am assuming that he runs the land raider ahead of the rest of his army - if he is very conservative, also good for me as i can start shooting down his army.
The armies are really, even, he has a lot more STR 9, but I have a lot more "usable" psycannons as i can shoot from inside my Rhinos.
any other thoughts on how to play the game?
Mark
26404
Post by: cmac
Well, potentially can sit back and shoot at range, depends how he goes against your dreads. The Chinese like to keep a dread giving a cover save to the lr so not too sure it will go head on into your 24" firing range.
Heh, basically your plan is stand and shoot. Go Matt Ward.
Good luck with the games, when is the first?

Last time I played against GK's, it was a Purifier mirror-match almost. This was at the 2011 Ard Boyz Semi-finals (2500pts) where we brought pretty much the same army, except I had 2 vendreads and he had Mordrak + Ghost Knights. What happened? Due to my superior shooting and isolating Mordrak away from the rest of his army, I was able to table him. First priority is to take out his transports. Then, focus on his infantry and make sure you don't get charged. Have your dreads close to your army for counter-assault and make him think twice before assaulting. I think with your experience and army list, you'll probably do fine against his army, land raider or no.
9345
Post by: Lukus83
I do see a distinct disadvantage in a KP game. His shooting at long range outclasses you. Sure your dreads are Venerable, but he really only needs to silence them and you HAVE to go to him. His Landraider and deathstar in that particular match would be a bit of a nightmare. You do haemorrage KP's quite a bit with all the Rhinos you are packing and he has the tools to deal with them.
Objective games...play the game, not your opponent. Just focus on the mission and you should be fine.

Hey Lukus,
I have a game coming up today against Janthkin's new necrons. What's he playing? Scythe-spam. 3-4 night scythes and 2 doom scythes along with Immotehk and other stuff. This should be interesting.
BTW, there is going to be a role reversal. Normally he plays nids and I play crons. This time, it's going to be the other way around as I see how my slow nids are going to deal with his fast crons.
Oh, and good luck, Mark.

Ok...I'm now curious to see your nid list. Will be putting my thoughts up when the report comes out for sure.
Since the tournament ended for me I have decided to mix up the pure Scythe spam list. While the Scythes bring efficiency they also suffer from a problem...too much of 1 thing. Something I noticed was having a single lascannon shooting at them was fine. The odds of it doing something significant are well within safe ranges from my PoV. But when you give your opponent no other targets for units that pump out multiple S8 or more shots (think Long Fangs or Psyfleman Dreads) you have a BIG issue. So my Elites slot of Deathmarks and Scythes will probably be replaced with 2 units of Wraiths. It's beginning to look like MTO Necrons, but I doubt I will be dropping any more Scythes as I like the firepower and mobility too much. The aim is really to just run as many threats as possible which the Scythes really allow you to do, as well as give cover saves to the Doom Scythes from certain angles of retaliation.
Of course I may not even be running Necrons for the next tournament. It's becoming obvious the Chinese players are onto our wily ways of bringing really tuned lists and have begun doing it themselves, as well as bringing anti-meta lists along. Someone who could well take the whole thing is a girl called DiuDiu. Not only did she knock out Cmac, but her list is tuned to take on GK's. 2 Librarians and 2 Landraiders. Purifiers are gonna be in for a rough one.

Okay - so game 1 of best out of 3 has been played:
Mission Capture and Control(?) (one objective each)
Dawn of War Deployment
Initiative - Grey Knights (haha - j/k my grey knights won initiative)
Here are the pics:
Deployment - I pushed Crowe in Rhino as far up as I could so that i can use the spot light to highlight his key targets - assumed of ocurse i would lose the rhino but crowe can manage. one strike squad on my objectvie
- he put one purifier squad on his objective (3 upstairs, 2 downstairs) and crowe's evil twin in the lasback.

Post by: mray01
Turn 1 was abismal for me - my entire army comes on - I light up crowe's evil twin's las back and imobilize and stun it...this is with my army shooting :( he did have cover though.
His turn - he blows up Crowe's Rhino - that's it...

Post by: mray01
My turn 2-
Crowe stays where he is - shoots his storm bolter at his purifiers holding his objective...kills 2 - yep...crack shot
I fire at the front Psyback immobilizing it.... and that is my turn 2 shooting
His turn 2 shooting is equally abysmal, although his psyback squad disembarks - his landraider moves up the side of the board.
Note - in my movement phase i position 3 of my rhinos to be able to shoot at his land raider should he move forward, which he did next turn will be good.

Post by: mray01
Turn 3 is when things started going my way-
1) strike squad shoots at LR - nothing
2) Purifier squad shoots at LR - 2 Penetrating hits - 1 result of 5
3) My ven dread shoots at his dread - Explodes
4) shoot at his deathstar - 7 purifiers and 1 inquisitor go down
5) Crowe assaults his Purifier sqaud - kills one also loses a wound
Return fire - he destroys one of my Rhinos and I beleive immobilizes and knocks the weapon off my most forward Rhino
4

Post by: mray01
Turn 4 - now that his LR is popped i can run towards his objective
Highlights -
1) He has a laz back under the ruins - the squad was out to my right - my purifiers charge that squad and whipe them out - in his last turn his other las back moved behind his objective - just a not because in his turn he counter charnges and wipes out my purifiers
2) I blow the las back under the objective
3) Run forward with most of my army
4) part of my army whipes out his final 2 guys from death star
5) combat with Crowe and Purifiers is drawn
Evil Grey Knights
1) Crowe's evil twin gets out of his laz back and charges Crowe - they kill crowe - i cast my power to take a guy with me - i wanted to take out the last of his psycannons, but fail my psychic test :(
2) his purifiers charge my purifiers - i lose - his purifers go to the top of the ruins
3) he blows up one of my Rhinos - killing 2 guys in shooting phase
2
6882
Post by: mray01
Turn 5 i clinch it...
1) I run my psyback up 12 inches next to the ruins and his objecive, disembark under the objecvie - (the psyback has been running up 12" last turn and this turn)
2) Strick squad blows up his razorback behind the building
3) My entire army shoots at his squad holding the objecive and it is wiped out.
4) i also shoot at the purifiers in the (my) left side of the building - they only have the 1 psycannon left
5) shoot at the purifiers that took out my crowe - they are on my left far from objective - 1 psycannon left
He concedes as he cannot recoup...crowe is too far away and his two singly guy units cannot see my strike squad nor could he get to them to assault...
So - victory to the Grey Knights - 2 - 0
Sorry there were fewer pictures at the end... Automatically Appended Next Post: Basically I was waiting for his landraider to come up into my army so I can rend it to death - after that point i was free to move up to take/contest his objective.
I think it was bad that he was not agressive enough, but i think this is a flaw of using razorbacks with purifiers vs. rhinos. I was able to put pressure on him while, once his landraider was gone, he was not able to pressure my objective.
Well, we have up to two more games...will post the next report here too.

So yeah congrats on the win. It certainly seems the other GK player is winning based on the strength of his list rather than how well he plays. Not to take anything away from you but had he played conseravatively he could have just sat back with Razorbacks, knocked out rhinos and your Dreads and waited for you to walk across to him. He could then counter attack with the contents of the Landraider and use his mobility to annihilate 1-2 squads at a time. Ignore the primary of taking your objective and just win on VP's. Not as easy as it sounds I know, but it perhaps would have been a better way to play from his perspective. Definitely sounds like you outplayed him so congrats again.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ooh...just noticed. Crowe (both of them) can't start the game in the transports. Rhino's and Razorbacks are dedicated transports so they can only start the game carrying the unit they were bought for.

Luke - yeah, basically let's assume they started out and got in - just didn't show it (although we did make a mistake - but we both made the same one so meh) Also Luke - you seem to think I don't have any long range shooting in my army - not to argue your logic but - 12 Str 8 Shots vs 5 Str 9 and 8 Str 8Shots (total 13) - -- he has one more shot than I do - yes, he has Str 9 on five shots, but all but 2 of his long range guns are a lot easier to take out than mine (e.g. Razor backs vs. Ven Dreds) Also, you make it seem like getting into a 24" range is tough. 1 turn of movement with smoke and I am there... Adding Psycannons, I have 10, he has 8 - although his are sitting in razorbacks... and if they are out i am shooting at his troops from inside my Rhinos (most likely) Also, I actually feel i would win the Long Range shooting showdown, or at least it would be close enough where your argument that he would just knock out the rhinos sit back and counter attack is flawed. If you notice in this game, except for his Land Raider and except for 1 Rhino that i was moving up on my right, we were both sitting back and shooting - who won the shooting match? Keep in Mind his Land Raider was shooting at least one of its guns each turn... Anyway - maybe you can copy his list and we can try it out after the tournament.

Agree with Luke on the pure long range due to the sources he has them shooting from. Getting into 24" is not difficult usually but getting that alpha down would help, the LR will always fire 1 gun but would be a bit more scary if it gets the second T/L las. Ven dreads may be the difference, but the 1/9 chance from a pen of death can happen and weapons can be blown off. 3 sources of long range firepower isn't great.
Comes to dice and positioning to get the cover saves to mitigate damage.
A replay of that match? GK v GK?
Lol, that sounds fun
I'm sure Matt Ward would enjoy it

@mray:
Well played. I think your experience and savviness won you the game, though I think your opponents will adapt in a short time. It's good to see how the locals are evolving.
I'm slightly confused. In his list, it shows 2 lasbacks and 1 LR, buy you keep mentioning 5 S9 shots. Is that because he actually had 3 lasbacks? Anyways, psyflemans rock. 2 TL S8 shots are better than 1 TL S9 when you're a rhino.
There's 2 reasons why I prefer purifiers in rhinos than razors, but most people don't seem to get it. Besides the obvious protection a rhino affords while still allowing the guys inside to fire, a drawback of razors is that they actually discourage movement or shooting. Either stay inside the razors and you don't get to use your psycannons, or disembark to use them and now you've lost a great deal of mobility. The Movement phase is definitely something that just too many people under-estimate.

Post by: Lukus83
I think you misunderstand my point. It was a 2 objective game. You both had similar mobility and guns. The difference was you could ONLY deal with his Landraider once he was in your 24" range (S8 shots from Venerables are wasted since the Razorbacks are much better targets and once popped the Purifiers are still better targets than a Landraider). By putting it inside 24" himself he was basically committing suicide. Not only was he allowing you to sit still with psycannons (doubling your shots), he was also giving away a load of VP's in the case of a draw.
Now I agree Purifiers should be in Rhinos, but since he did put them in Razorbacks he should have played to his own strength. Namely, sitting back and dealing with your Dreads at range. He had 5 lascannons from 4 sources able to shoot at 5 targets a turn. First priority should have been the Venerables. Then your psycannons are heading towards his gunline with no support. He has the same number of psycannons as you (8), so once you move in it's a psycannon battle with one side still having dreadnaughts and lascannons in support. Which side wins?
Again I'm not saying it would be easy to achieve, just saying that's how he should have played it.

Sorry, but no report on this one due to the number of proxies by my opponent. But I will give a brief synopsis here.
His list (at 1850):
Nemesor Zandrehk (he decided to play-test Zandrehk instead)
Royal Court - 3x Lance-teks, 1x Pulse, 1x Lord w/Mindshackles and Warscythe
10x Immortals - Gauss, Night Scythe (Zandrehk and Lord here)
5x Warriors- Night Scythe
5x Warriors- Night Scythe
5x Warriors- Night Scythe
10x Scarabs
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Monolith
My 1850 shooting nids:
Swarmlord
1x Tyrant Guard - 1x Lash whips
3x Hive Guards
3x Hive Guards
3x Hive Guards
Tervigon - Adrenal Glands, Catalyst, Cluster Spines, Toxin Sacs
13x Termagants
Tervigon - Adrenal Glands, Catalyst, Cluster Spines, Toxin Sacs
13x Termagants
3x Biovore
3x Biovore
Tyrannofex - Cluster Spines, Desiccator Larvae, Rupture Cannon
We played Spearhead, Annihilation. I went first. Janthkin reserves his entire army.
Turn 1 - I spread out and spawn termagants. 1 tervigon runs out. I did this to force him to deepstrike his doom scythes further out.
Turn 2 - Just waiting for me.
I believe 2 night scythes, the monolith and both doom scythe comes in. Mono and doom scythe lands on target. Focus-fire wipes out 1 unit of hive guards.
Turn 3 - I destroy 1 doom scythe and weapon-destroy the other. I might have knocked out 1 night scythe.
The rest of his army (except scarabs) comes in. He continues to focus on my hive guards and knock another unit down to just 1 model. He also does some minor damage to my other units, including killing off Swarmy's tyrant guard.
Turn 4 - This turn, my hive guards shake/stun 1 scythes and immobilize another. I make a huge mistake here and charge Swarmy into his HQ unit, forgetting about mindshackles. Luckily, Swarmy survives....
....but not for long. On his turn, Swarmy commits harakiri. Tesla-destructors continue to do some damage, including wiping out the single hive guard. Scarabs come in and multi-assault some gants and the tervigon, wiping out the gants and stripping my tervigon of its armor. Luckily, I had FNP on him. I spawn a unit of termagants and run out. My termagants, however, assault and break a unit of warriors, who would later run off the board.
Turn 5 - Hive guards take down a night scythe only. My biovores aren't doing too well. They either scatter all over the place, or my opponent makes his saves/ RP tests. Another unit of termagants charge the scarabs to help out my tervigon.
He wipes out 1 terivgon and kills some biovores, causing them to fall back. In assault, I am killing his scarabs more quickly than he is killing my termagants.
Turn 6 - Tervigon casts Dominion but fleeing biovores are just slightly out of range. T-fex shoots and then assaults his HQ unit but fails my MSS test. Hive guards fail to kill another scythe. Tervigon and termagants wipe out those scarabs.
He doesn't do much and the game ends.
Janthkin's necrons beat my nids 8-7 after a hard-fought battle. If only my 3 hive guards managed to wreck his night scythe on Turn 6 (I got 3 pens but rolled 1's and 2's on the damage charts), it would've been a draw. I felt I had a superior list and more experience than my opponent, but I've gotta give him props for beating me with his very first game with the necrons.
BTW, this list (or something very similar) is what he will be bringing to Adepticon.

@ Luke - I have 10 Psycannons, he has 8.
If he deals with the Ven Dreds, he is not shooting at my rhinos, thus i am in 24".
Anyway - Potato Potato (doesn't work as well when typing). his advantage is only slight and very easy to mitigate. and of course the only way i can effectively deal with his LR is with the Psycannons - wasting the Dreads on it is silly as he has plenty of lasbacks and dreads to shoot at.
Of course dice also play a big part, as does cover and positioning.
I don't think one extra shot with a laz cannon a turn would have made much of a difference, but...anyway
I do think you are playing up his LR too much and you think he has a definitive advantage at range, in reality, his advantage is only slight. It is not that difficult to get within range.
of course if he were to say, Castle up protect his objective and just try and shoot me for the draw/ win on VP - well, maybe he could have done that..then again, i owuld have just needed one squad to get close to his objective to contest.
Anwya, we will see on the next game
@JY2 - 2 Lazbacks with T/l lascannons, and 1 with las cannon and t/l plasma... also his big squad does not have psycannons.

I'm really only saying a couple of things:
1. Landraiders (or all round AV14) is something Purifier builds struggle with. Where are the meltaguns when you need them?
2. Your opponent didn't play very well.
Really that's it. He handed his Landraider to you on a silver platter (throwing it forward into the only weapons that can actually wreck it and are more effective if stationary is stupid. It's a ton of VP's and was never going to make it to your objective). If he had sat back and shot everything at the Ven Dreads he would have at least forced your Purifiers to keep moving and then choose: Shoot at Lasbacks or shoot at the Landraider. Less shots from the Purifiers and a tough choice to boot.
I'm not saying he would have won, what I am saying is that it would have been a better way to play.
But anyways. Good luck in the next round. Hopefully your opponent isn't reading this...

Well done Mark
Don't think there will be game 3 JY2, the win on the VP's probably makes it 2-0 so Mark will go to the final.
Who is Diudiu playing? Has that been done?
That shooting war comes down to who gets the alpha imo, then dice tell the rest of the story. I mock GK due to the ease of use of most of the lists ( [Psydreads, really Matt?, it's like 4th ed Falcons. Well I can shoot at this but it probably won't do much unless its AP 1]), but the movement and positioning are valid strategic differentiation points. Mark is obviously doing this well (and has a Tau army - albeit a Forgeworld one ).
To be honest, its all almost getting to the point where it doesn't matter. Maybe GW intentionally breaks the game just before a new edition to push sales and then slightly nerfs dominant stuff and pushes previously weak stuff to sell more models! I may ease off on buying and painting ( lol, I like my armies to be grey, black or white and playable) until the next edition.

Congrats again Mark. I'm gonna hazard a guess you are playing DiuDiu in the finals. Be sure to let Lilian know you won't get back till like 3am, lol.
And the strategy isn't really mine...just another (and I think better) way of him playing his GK's. His list isn't tuned but you work with what you have. At least he did better with it than last time (came down to VP's instead of a crushing victory) so perhaps that particular way of playing it has some merit. I didn't see the game but regardless I'm guessing you outplayed him and you definitely have a stronger list, though as Cmac says, having only 3 sources of long range shooting is low. Your 5 Dread list in my opinion is much scarier.
Good luck in the finals. If you are playing DiuDiu you are gonna need it. As you said to me before, her list is designed to hurt GK's.
When's the game?

Hey All,
JY2 - yes, no 3rd game and Yes will be playing Diu Diu in the final - she played and beat the Necron player yesterday.
Luke, we have a picture for you have his Scythes, we even took one together with yours...i will post here once i get it to shame you....
He went first and deployed first...will post pics later today - i realize i have up until turn 4 or 5 (went to turn 6) . He had one land raider and one razorback and purifer squad on his left, the rest of his army and his objecive on his right... i put my entire army to face off against his LR and Purifiers squad... my dreads knocked out his razorbacks and one of his dreads...although in the ned i had 2 immobilized dreads and only 1 t/l autocannon among the three.
There was no close combat and it was literally just a turkey shoot.

Well, in that case, I guess the 3rd game will have to extend to the game against Diu Diu.
BTW, I love that name, or at least the romanization of it. It just sounds so cute. However, if that was pronounced in Cantonese, then it means something pretty bad....
-----------------------------------------------------------------
At all:
If I was Mark's opponent, I would have advanced in both games, even in the face of all those psycannons. My reasons?
- Only stand and shoot if you have superior firepower. With all those psyflemans and psycannons, Mark's purifiers had the better firepower. It would have been more advantageous for Mark to trade fire as he showed in game #2.
- In an objectives game, the one who advances towards the enemy objective will be playing for the Win or the Tie. The one who stands will be playing for the Tie or the Loss. Of course this is assuming that both parties have relatively equal firepower. You can pull off the win if you have superior firepower (since there was a tie-breaker in the form of VP's). Unfortunately however, in my opinion, Mark's opponent did not. This is basically a strategy I refer to as Positional Dominance. You establish good positions early so that your opponent with have to be battling from behind. If you advance and he stays still, only his objective will be threatened while yours remains relatively safe. Thus, the game is his to lose and yours to win.
- Although his LR got destroyed in game #1, psycannons aren't really that reliable in taking them out. Play aggressive with the LR as it has a decent chance to make it to Mark's objective. Otherwise, his 300pt purifier unit is just sitting in there and not contributing to the battle at all.
Looking forwards to the DD battle. She sounds like a good player, though with BA vs GK and Mark's experience, I'm going to have to give this one to Mark as long as he doesn't forget to keep moving in an objectives game (don't let those angels box him in).

The thing is in this situation you can play for the draw and win on VP's. The landraider and it's contents are worth about 600. Knowing that purifiers struggle with av14 and the fact it's worth so much then just keeping it alive can be a game winner.

Okay all, here is the battle report:
Capture & Control (Again - they wanted to roll each game instead of play each of the three missions - meh)
Initiative to Evil Grey Knights (i.e. not me hehe - he rolled a 6 to my 1)
Description, he put most of his forces to his right, along with objective...my objective was in my right corner, so he put his landraider and deathstar to his left, as well as on razorback (psyback) and on purifier squad.
I deploy my entire army on my right..farthest is over to the middle in case i want to push for his objective or concentrate on taking out his deathstar and squad...

The thing is, 3 vendreads + 10 psycannons will outlive and outshoot 2 regular psyflemans and 3 razorbacks + 8 psycannons. While Mark's opponent is destroying rhinos (because he won't easily kill vendreads at all), Mark is destroying razors and normal dreads, thus diminishing his opponent's ability to wage a war of attrition from range. Yes, the LR will probably survive, but the rest of the army will be too thoroughly depleted from all of Mark's shooting. That's why his opponent should advance. You fight the fight you can win. In this case, his opponent won't win the shooting match because his army isn't really optimized for it as Mark's army is. As you say, a huge portion of his army - 600pts of it - is meant to close in on the enemy, not sit at a distance to trade shots.

sorry for not posting right away - network problems yesterday..
So - we finished up at his turn..
My turn 1 shooting -
Crowe moved away - he is now out of the fight and i moved my SS into the Razorback - i think it is more important for them to be mobile than for Crowe to be.
2 left ven dreads immobilize and knock out the weaons on two lazbacks (one t/l laz one las and t/l plasma) - i didn't destroy them, whcih was dissapointing considering the number of pens, but...they are effectively out of the game.
On the right, my ven drad shot at his psyback..just stunned it; my psyback knocks out 1 purifier from the squad... rest of rhinos and troops advance to close in to get psycannon shots on the LR.

His Turn 2 - he shoots at my ven dreads with both his dreadnoughts (no cover for me as i want them to give cover to the more vulnerable psyback) and he wrecks another of my rhinos...other than that...quick turn...

My Turn 2 -
Purifiers move forward to shoot at his LR; My right Ven dred explodes his Psyback... My dreads wrecks one of his dreads...that is about it... got a few results on the LR, but just 1's and 2's

Turn 3 for him
Blasts both arms off one of my ven dread (i think very lucky ) and starts to go after some of my troops with his troops and his LR's heavy bolter... he also stuns some of my Rhinos

My turn 3...
So, i lost the arms on one dread - basically he is mobile cover now - i don't think he will shoot at him any more as their are other more dangerous threaths. at this point the game gets pretty boring - we just trade shots.. I do manage to wipe out his purifier squad this turn on his left side.
I will say this - He got lucky with his land raider as my dice rolls were just horrible...you will see what i mean later.

He surprises me by disembarking one of his purifier squads from the razor back and puts them into position to engage me...
He then immobilizes my dread with guns :(

Turn 5 - okay so here my opponent really surprises me...how might you ask... he dissembarks from his LR to shoot at my squad... umm okay.
I would love to poll you all on this to see if you would havfe done this...i would not have...
he did shoot my purifiers...may have killed one guy...
not much else, he knocks off the other gun of my immobilized dread - yep i have 3 ven dreads at this point 1) no guns, 2) no guns can't move; 3) 1 gun can't move.
but all still only half VPs

My turn five - potentially the end of the game...i know we are going on VPs so...
I want to move my two squads (one in razorback, 1 in rhino - i.e. one SS and one PS) up to shoot at his purifiers - the rest of my army is going to try and shoot his deathstar to get below half as i think that will be easier than taking out his LR...
I do still have on eunit that shoots at the LR as they cant draw LOS to the deathstart --- i knock out two Las cannons off LR -

drum roll ----------------- on to turn 6
his is very quick...although his squad in the crater shoot at my purifiers - kill 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
his death star kills off one guy in one of my 3 man purifiers squads, now he gets half points...and he gets my other squad below half too...
So, I have 3 purifier squads below half, 1 purifier okay, 2 Strike squads okay, 2 exlpoded rhinos, 1 wrecked rhino, 1 immobilized no gun rhino, and 3 half ven dreds....
and in my turn I................
.............. kill the rest of his deathstar......including inquisitor
... his purifiers in crater lose two more (half points)...
... knock of the other ing gun from his Land Raider
He lost 1 full purifiers, 1 half purifier, half a LR, Death Star Purifiers, Inqisitor, 2 half lasbacks, 1 full las back, 1 dread...
DRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we go to VPs.... I gave up about 610 pts or he gave up just over 1,000 pts. I think over 350 pts is a Major Victory in old ways.
Going back to him getting out of the LR with his Deathstar - that gave me a lot of points, around 300 i think...would have been much closer game if he had not, although you never know as he may not have gotten my two squads to below half and i could have shot even more at the LR...one more weapon destroyed or immobilized would have FINALLY wrecked it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: sorry, i think it is just victory...
Anyway, next game (Finals) is against DiuDiu, who plays Blood Angels.
Not sure of her list or if it is here, but as far as i recall it is:
2 Land Raiders (grrrr)
1 Storm Raven
Mephiston
Librarian
DC Dred
3 scout bikes
and some troops...
1 Landraider is manageable - 2 will be very tough. Also, 2 librarians should gimp my psychic powers...
Will post those games when they occur. I think our first game will be Monday

If he was planning on a firefight with you, I would have dumped off his guys much earlier, as in Turn 1. Advance the LR 12" and then drop off his purifiers. As a matter of fact, I would've also advanced the razors 6" and then dropped off their guys as well. Then he would've had a chance to do some damage in the shootout with full use of all his psycannons and vehicles, meanwhile making target priority a bigger problem for you. With his guys in the transports, target prioritization was very easy. Shoot the razors and dreads. Then shoot the infantry and the LR.
That's the only way he could've won this firefight.

I have to agree with jy2. Unloading his guys while his transports were operational would have given him a big advantage. He could have popped a lot more vehicles and started hurting infantry earlier. Although I'm surprised he split his deployment that way. Having everything working in tandem and supporting each other would have helped him a lot more.

Wow, I'm shocked! BA actually beat the GK's? What is this world coming to.
Diu Diu seems like a very good player, but if I was playing her army, I would have probably been more aggressive. Instead of hanging back the 2 LR's and furioso, I would've aggressively advance them to put more pressure on you, rather than to let your take your sweet time shooting down my vehicle and getting into position.
Then again, I'm still not quite sure how she managed to win, but I guess that just means you have to work harder next game.

Heh, that same issue. Land Raider moving into psycannon range doubles the shots of the psycannon? There isn't really much of note inside those LR's, she takes them as durable fire platforms and plays them as such. Good use of corbellos reroll IMO, that potentially was the game.
Diudiu is a careful defensive player, she has a good feel for when to hold stuff back and when to release it that has her in the finals. She is very careful wiuth model placement to prevent LOS, get cover saves etc. (can take some time heh).
Good luck tonight Mark, if you win I will come and watch the decider.
Might bring popcorn.

DiuDiu is a very good player. My guess is she planned ahead to turn 5/6/7 straight from the start. She didn't want you to rush headlong at her with everything so she gave you the side with 2 objectives. That's now 2 units of psycannons that wouldn't be advancing. She then takes her sweet time eliminating stuff, goes to contest turn 5 with very little left in your army that can actually damage landraiders. If the game goes to VPs she probably gets the win due to having 2 completely functional landraiders.
I know it didn't quite work out like that but did you end up leaving some psycannons out of the fight to hold objectives? Automatically Appended Next Post: Lots of use of the word landraider there...

@ Jy2 - it was a Draw - not a loss ... and actually if you look at the end I lost it...tank shocking the squad allowed her to move corbolo close enough to my objective (I think) still very close
@ Luke - No, actually the two objectives were in the middle, i had range on everything most of the game. While Mephiston was there, he was my target, not the Land Raiders.
I did have the one psycannon reserve squad meant to contest/take her objective...maybe i should have used them to beef up the two i already had...
She is good though and it was a fun game. Tonight we play again. Should be interesting.
and yes Luke, 2 landraiders are tough for me to deal with. especially with Mephiston and a furiouso running around...and a storm raven. She has a lot of very goo dthings in fact...damn.
If I were her, I would have also rushed me - she can overlaod me with so many threats i can't do much...then again, she played her way and damn...did pretty well. But i think with Mephiston and a furiouso in my lines i would get wiped out.

Well good luck tonight anyway. Maybe she will try something different tonight though I doubt it. As craig said she is a very conservative player.
Let me know how it works out. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also you might wanna confirm with yang about the draw/loss situation, just to be safe you know.

Oh, sorry. I thought that in the case of a draw, they use VP's to determine the winner.
In any case, good luck in game #2. I think your army should be able to take on hers.

So,
Played the final game last night - mission was multiple objectives Dawn of War. There were five objectives.
She reserved her entire army, I went first.
I had two turns of nothing to do - she got so luck where virtually her entire army came on the board her turn 2 (all but the razorback and Dreadnought).
Advantage was to me the first 3 real game turns. I was winning 3 objectives to 1 by end of turn 5. Unfortunately i she was avoiding the hell out of Crowe with Mephiston, i did get one chance to tie mephiston up but failed my difficult terrain test :( . Any case, he was a beast and pretty was going from squad to squad...i just can't survive that many attacks with my squads of five guys. His land raiders did a good enough job popping enough transports for mephiston to just reach havoc (turn 4, 5, 6) .
By the end of the match she held 2 objectives to my 1... I was actually about 1/8 of an inch away from one of her objectives with an immobilized rhino...if it was just a bit closer it would have been a draw
Sorry, i have pictures but only through the first couple of turns. The only bad experience is the game went from 7:45 - 11:00 PM She is just such a slow player it gets really irritating. She checks LOS from every one of my units to every one of her units each turn. A good player, but can use a bit of speeding up.
So, Monday 1/4 of an inch gave her a draw and kept me from winning, in this game 1/8 of an inch kept me from getting the draw.
Overall - i noticed that I have strong units, but against mephiston and Land Raiders it is very tough. These three units (and most of her points) are just too durable and Mephiston can just wreck me. Even the warding stave squads - 4 guys dead her turn, my turn, the other dies...
Overall, very fun though and for coming in second i picked up a new skyray/devilfish for my tau army and a Dreadknight for my GK (figured i woudln't buy a dreadnight and this is basically free so...)
Thanks all for reading the blog and I look forward to next time...maybe even play my marines in the next tournamnet.
Mark Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and going back a month - the first time i saw DiuDiu's list i felt it was tailored to beat mine. That fact still remains i think, both games were still very good though.

Sucks on the loss, but coming in 2nd is still pretty great. It also means the pressure is off for next year since she is now the defending champion.
I'm already working on next years list (just need 18 IG meltaguns and it will all be purchased).
So yeah dude, congrats on coming 2nd and looking forward to some gaming soon. Might be able to make some games in the holiday coming up. Will call if I'm free. Try and get Lilian to hang out with Candy since she is feeling a little low with all the pains pregnancy brings.

Here are two...there was also a cool marine.
There was some crazy guy there that day bugging them. I became friends with one of the girls - not in constume. Their group up in BJ seems cool...will touch base with them next time i am up there.

Great games with Craig and Mark, thanks very much. I just had more luck, both my reserve and opponent's shooting.
I didn't take notice that I played sooo slowly, maybe I could try it. o(^_^)o~~~ While I play PC games, it's too hurry for me to do many things at the same time. So I like to play warhammer more :-P

Don't worry too much about he slow playing. Everyone always has things that they need to improve on. Wish I has seen your games as Mark mentioned they were pretty intense. Congrats on the win!

@Mark:
Wow, you let a girl beat you? No, just kidding. Tournament looks like a lot of fun and you did great. Don't think you need to really change anything with your list if you use it again next year....even against an army with dual-land raiders. I think your Crowe-purifiers should be able to take them on.
@Diu Diu:
Congrats on taking the tourney. It is no small feat to do so against a great opponent in Mark and a very good army such as his Purifier grey knights. I actually felt that you had the underdog army, but somehow, you managed to pull it off. Well done, and good luck defending your title next year.
Regarding the slow play, don't worry too much about it. I think it'll get better with more practice. You just need to take into consideration time management in tournament play, which someone of your skill should be able to do in no time.

You played very well, you deserve it! I thought your list was nicely rounded.
What did you get with the prize money? Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and don't worry too much about the speed with which you play. I didn't mind it.
The care and precision that you use your army with is one of the ways that you are able to get the most out of the list you have, and hence, you have won.

You could try a different army.
It is fun to mix up the different styles, I have only ever seen you play BA!
Maybe save it for the next new codex or the release of 6th edition and try a fun new army.
Fantasy models are cool.
One of the nicest armies I have seen was at the UK GT. It was an exodite eldar army, which basically means a dragon/lizard theme but Eldar. Converted Dragons were Fire Prisms, converted Cold Ones were bike council etc.
You may be able to get something to convert a bunch of BA bikers onto monsters.
Many options!

I've started to setup my Eldar army since months ago, very slowly. It's a very interesting and great rule, though not powerful enough now.
I like the models of Eldar very much, for a long time. It's a magic work to print them.
