I started this blog Awhile ago to document 1 project, then I added more and then a little more and now it (hopefully) is intended to be a rolling log of my various projects.
A little about me, I started playing Miniature Wargames with Battle Master, as couple of years latter I started into 2nd Ed 40K, since then I have dabbled in various games from GW's line though I did play Chainmail and have recently picked up Warmachine and Deadzone. In 2001 I was diagnosis-ed as an alcoholic gave up drinking and that started me taking what was an occasional hobby and going into it full bore. For the first time in 8 years I started to have completely painted (poorly) Armies. This is also the time when I started converting models as opposed to Just doing the basic models in the box with maybe a kit-bash for a Unit Leader. As time has gone on I have improved my skill at painting and modeling and hopefully continue to improve.
Currently I am involved in a 6 Month Mountain Reduction Challenge http://6mmrpc.blogspot.com/" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://6mmrpc.blogspot.com/. Which I have taken on personally as opposed to part of a group, though I did try to rope some of my buddies into it. These posts start on page 3 of he blog.
First Post. Follows below
This is my first time posting here, I have always thought to but ended up getting so involved in a project that I forget to take pictures until its done.
So here is what this one is about. I already have a Stompa, painted and customized to match the rules for the basic version, currently painted to belong with the Blood Axe Klan. I have wanted a stompa to lead a dread mob all of which are currently painted in a Goff Klan color scheme. Well a Local player here was ditching his Orks and was selling a Stompa for $60, needless to say I jumped on it and made the transaction this last Friday to have it done by the clubs Apoc game that I thought was 3 weeks away. Turns out its not its this coming Sat. I was some what frustrated since i was attempting to have an entirely painted Ork Waagh for the Apoc game (4000pts per player for the club games) I technically have it but I wouldn't have my new Stompa which i had already decided was going to be a Klawstompa. In steps Rob, rob rare plays is a mediocre modeller but has an intense love of the game, he is always encouraging players to paint and model better, he has continually been amazed at the speed in which I paint and assemble models. He said "No way I just say you take 20 boys from sprue to painted in an army that won Best Appearance at the tourney last week, you got this". So Challenge accepted, to prove to myself that I can do it here I go and to keep some accountability I am going to post it here.
DAY 1
Day one was spent tearing off the bitz I didn't need, and replacing the horns and left arm of the Stomp. I also started on a chainsaw claw similar to the one that found in the Killa kans and Def Dread kits. Now that this is posted, time to get back to work. Here's the pics.

Looking good with that arm. Are you going to repaint the entire thingy or just the arm?

Day 2
Well I have finished the Klaws for both arms. Positioning the Flame Belcha was a pain but finally decided that Orks probably wouldn't care if it was in the way. I am really liking how they both turned out. Next pieces to work on are the Flame Belchas Fuel Barrel and the Tesla coil thingies for the Kustom Force Field. Here are the Pics of Day 2.
And Swordwind, the whole thing will be repainted, its going to be done up in a Goff color schemes so black and white with a little red and lots of Dags and checks.

Day 3
Between work and having a niece born about a week and a half early I didn't get much done. I did finish the Fuel tank for the Flame Belcha. i based it loosely off the tanks for the Burna boyz. Credit on the design of the skull goes to my wife, since she keeps giving me ideas that seem a bit more extravagant then I want and i shoot them down I let her add a bit of something to it. I also added back what bitz were going to get added back. All that is left now is the Kustom Force field for the Leader of the Dread Mob, and the rear Hatch and ladder that I am snagging an Idea I saw here a long while back and makign the door open sideways instead of up and down. Here are the pictures of what i finished on Day 3

Looks fantastic, do you use evergreen styrene or a different product? I love the buzzsaw teeth!
10439
Post by: Raskana
Most is evergreen some is from a company called Plastek. Though judging by the outdated packaging and the layers of dust on it at the hobby shop I am not so sure that Plastek is still in business.

Day 4
Got the Force field bit done and some other detail work like the door, the hatches over the Grots, the Suppa Rokits and the front boss plate. I also got it primed which means tonight starts the painting phase. I really wish i had an air brush but I will make do as best I can thank fully since its mainly balck most of my work is done just with the Primer.
The force field is an engine from a Killa Kan I bought off Craigslist here that was too badly damaged to be saved and then made from Buttons and seed beads with holes drilled through the middle of each button then the buttons and beads threaded on wire. the wooden bead caps it off with the hole filled in with green stuff.

Day 5
Started on the painting and got most of the first layer done on it. Was a busy day at work so only got about 2 hours to paint. Hoping to get more time today.

Day 6
Almost done started on final layers of high lights as i finished last night. so far its looking good next step since the black is high lighted is to start adding the checks and dags where they need to go. I am liking the patch work painting on the main body, after some initial rejection of the idea I have followed my wife's suggestion and added a Tin Bitz plate or 2. I also included a pic of my other Stompa which happened to be on the table I was using to takes pics this morning.

Day 7 and the Apoc Game
So it was a hard push but it got completed and damn it did good. It took down 3 supper heavies and 3 other enemy vehicles over the course of the game. in addition by the end of the game it was left with only 1/2 drive damage and 2 structures points gone. Over all the game was a blast with lots of destruction on all sides. Now to figure out hte next project.

Post by: Raskana
So the Klawstompa is done and now its on to some projects it had preempted. So far on the list for completion soon is:
10 Flashgitz w/ Painboy
14 Kommandos using Kromlech bits to go with my Snikrot conversion.
5 Mega Nobz using the Assault on Black Reach Nobz
1 Battle Wagon stripped of paint, broken down and rebuilt with Deffrolla and Kill Kannon
5 Stormboyz striped rebuilt and repainted to join the mob and cap it out at 20 models
So tackling the first thing on this list is the Flashgitz. I already had part of a box of Nobz left over form some previous conversions. So I picked up another one and started breaking apart the Kombi weapons and started converting them over off an Idea I picked up over at Iron Dog studios http://www.irondogstudios.com/commission/badrukk/com_badrukk.html. The first model that I did up was the Painboy. I took one of the bionic arms an added a Urty Syringe and a canister to his back. I then took a cleaver from one of the fantasy Orc arms I had and converted one of the choppas to a power Kleeva for his Doc tool. I then took a Nob that I had started to try and convert over to be a Fantasy Black Orc Warboss till I stared getting bored with fantasy and decided to leave the Full functional Warboss there and repurposed the model back to 40K. From there it was just adding barrels to the lower portion of the Kombi weapons and adding some extra belt feeds and magazines. Over all I am happy with how they turned out. Will prime and start painting them once I come back form some field time. I think they are going ot end up Bad Moons but still debating since they would end up being the only Bad Moons in my army but then again, hey Free Booters.

Back from the field but its been a busy weekend for the most part. I finished stripping a couple of models for my list; the 5 storm boyz, the AoBR Nobz and the Battle Wagon. Also started the paint on 3 of the Flashgitz Overall nothing really picture worthy On a side note I picked up some LA's Totally Awesome, and am going to run some test models through it to see how it works out. Also got my wife's Nids out of the office and shes starting to get them ready to actually play in 5th ed. So a productive weekend over all. Hey here's a question for you all; would you bee interested in seeing some of my older conversions, the ones already complete and in the army? Let me know and I will take some pics and describe what was done for them.

Once again Uncle Sam has been keeping me busier then I like I did finish the Flashgitz and am just waiting on a moment to take some descent pictures of them and then some other pictures so I can post more regularly expect something early tomorrow.

Well finally got the pictures done, it took me a bit longer then expected mainly because I built a little photo box thing out of some junk melamine that we had lying around the house. I'm pretty happy overall with how they turned out and I think Bad Moons was a good color scheme for them. Not sure how they are going to do in a game but figure its worth a shot to throw them in. Next project is the battle wagon, I had already put it in simple green before I started this blog and even then not all the paint came off. I have since tried the LA's Total Awesome trick and must say it works infinitely better but it is even having trouble with the couple of other models from this lot. Though I did get a couple of pics of it before it went to get primed as well as a few pics of 2 characters that i converted up[ using Catchan Bitz for a Cyber punk game.
Comments are appreciated and now here are the pics.

Are Flashgitz #1 and #2 twins?

Nope just the same picture posted twice cause I selected the wrong one apparently about to fix it now. LOL!
Or not since doing so would just put the picture at the bottom so here is the Pic that was supposed to be Flashgitz 1.

Post by: Raskana
Okay so before i got distracted by the question about twins (really should have paid more attention on which image I selected,) I was going ot post some more of my conversions in order of when they were built, some may not be finished as of yet but most are. So today I have the very first 2 conversions made for my current Ork Army. The first one is a Weirdboy. I loved these guys in 2nd Ed. and was disappointed when they didn't make it in to 3rd, I am very glad to see them back in the current Ork Codex. I have yet to play him in a game but think he will probably see fielding soon. He was built using mostly Fantasy Orc bitz.
Head is from the Orc Warboss frame, body is the Drummers body, from a set form the Fantasy regiment as is the spear that makes up his staff and he legs, the chain is from a chaos vehicle bit as are the 2 spikes at the top of his staff and he ball is a spare bit form Night goblin fanatics. The skull came from the new Boyz kit (I think) as did the other arm, the top knot came form the Nobz set. The inspiration came form long ago when I thought of the Waagh energy lifting up a weird boy and carrying him around. When starting to construct him i finished cutting and green stuffing the legs into the right position and I was trying to figure out how to hold him aloft, that's when I noticed the drummer body with a ring on the front of it and a spare ball from some fantasy fanatics. Inspiration hit and thus he is now held aground by the weight of the ball, which is how the model floats using the chain. He got painted as a Snakebite thus far the only one in my Waagh, not sure why but that is just the clan he wanted to belong too when I set down to paint him.
After him I started to figure out how to tackle the Rokits on the Deffcoptas, I am one of those Ork Players that prefers more dice to even my odds in a shooting phase so twin linked big shootas appealed to me more then twin-linked Rokits. thus I took some of my many spare shootas and started cutting and sawing and nipping till I was able to mount the barrels wher the lower Rokits had been and then took various bitz, an chaos search light a shoulder pad a truck glyph plate and a shield glyph form fantasy, and added these to cover the top Rokits. Over all I am happy with the conversions but not quite as happy with the build over all in games. They are goign to be getting Buzzsaws added using bitz that I have left over form Kans and Dreads, and then I have 2 more that i picked up in another lot that are currently being stripped of paint and if I can manage it I am going to pick up another AoBR and leave those 5 with Rokits. While the big shoots have been great against IG, Nids and other Orks over all they aren't worth he points in most games as is. They just don't carry enough punch, against armored targets though they did once manage to take down a Valkyrie on rear Armor. So here they are Next up is my Blood Axe Warboss and Nobz which I will post tomorrow.

Weirdboy would be improved by finishing his base (too obvious?) and Deffkoptas would be improved by drilling those barrels. Both are nice work regardless - keep it going!

Wow thanks on the Deffkoptas I thought I had but looking at the pics I see I missed 1-2. The Weird Boyz base is currently on hold till I play a game with him if I don't like the way he plays hes going to become an Orc Shaman for Fantasy and get put on a square base.

So here is the next set of conversions that went into the Army.
So some history to start it off with, I started out in 2ed with the Boxed set, and I ended up fielding a lot of Goffs but as I started to read the Ork codex I found I liked the Blood Axe Clan better so my first model purchased was a Blood Axe Warboss, this was an Ork that was dressed in a British style uniform with an offices cap. Now shortly after he was fielded but before he was painted he and a mob of Boyz took down a unit of Termies and I decided to give him a Chainfist like the one that was on the Blood Angel terminator he took down. I painted him up in his red uniform with the chain fist painted like the Blood angel complete with yellow black hazard stripes (wouldn't want anyone accidentally running into that weapon there). When 3rd edition Orks came out I fell in love with the new look of the Orks and I stared to replace the old models, the first one to be replaced was my Warboss. After I grew tired of painting Orks and set them aside for the many (about 7) years, he sat on a shelf waiting to one again lead a Waagh. I focused on my Imperial Marines for a bit and then due to some bad luck on a buddy's part when i left a duty location the movers packed up some of his chaos stuff. I loved the Khornate army he was building and after failing for 6 months to get a hold of him to get his stuff back I decided to put it to use. I spent about 4 years building that Army, mostly because good old GW changed the codex on me. Finally the Fallen Magi were done, all painted and based and it was on ot the next army, I had picked up a copy of the Ork codex in between and I decided it was time to go back to green. I also made a decision not linked and in hindsight maybe not the best, to paint my next army to White Dwarf standard. Thus I pulled out my old Orks and was sadly disappointed with the paint job I had done about 10 years prior well sucked, also the years had not been kind to them.
Grimskragga got dipped in simple green and broken into subsequent parts, as I assembled him I decided to bring him back to hsi roots a little so I added a little hat like the officer cap he used to wear, I had considered swapping out the arm for a PK but decided that the nostalgia I had for the model (the 3rd oldest in my army now the only 2 models older are 2 of my zap guns the only remnants form my 2ed army). Instead I painted his Axe with the Hazard stripe pattern of the old Chainfist.
Now he needed a unit of Bully Boyz like the old days when he strode around with a mob of 20 Blood Axe Nobz. Now I can't make as mob that big anymore but I had a wealth of Nobz form the AoBR sets I had and I purchased a box to add to them, Out came the hobby saw and the AoBR Nobz suddenly swapped out their Choppas for PKs and one swapped it out for a Big Choppa, the Plastic Card came out and turned out a Waagh banner made into the symbol of Grimskragga , now all I needed was a doc. I sorted through the bitz and cobbled together a Painboyish body then turned a gun into an Orky pneumatic needle gun, and his other hand took a fantasy sword and I filed it down to make a bone saw.
This is by far my favorite unit, they tend to soak up fire and hit like a Mac truck, also Girmskragga holds a special place in my heart, the character took part in all my early campaigns and has a huge back story, and he is one of the few models left in my collection form when I was early in the hobby, most of the rest having been replaced and sold. He's not quite as big as the AoBR Boss but I don't mind Grimskragga's still Top Boss in my mind, hacking up those slower PK wielding bosses before they get a chance to take him down with his trusty Big Choppa.

Another couple of late days, going to see if I can get some time after work while the hardware store is still open and get another light or 2, most of the way done with the battle wagon, since I started painting it noticed a couple of spots where things hat had broken off where glued or where there are lumps of glue I can't break off, going to see what I can do to mask, meld those into the finished model. Hell just be nice to get home before 8PM a day this week.

So ended up pulling some duty today and didn't get any painting done. But as I said yesterday I did finish the recovered battle wagon. As I mentioned earlier in the blog I bought some Ork stuff of Craigslist, the seller was a 14 year old kid that was sick of losing to his friends and just wanted out of it. What I got was 4 Burna Boyz and Mek, 5 Stormboyz, a partial AoBR set that was missing 1 Big Shoota 4 more Boyz and 1 Deffcopta, 2 Killa Kans, and a Battle Wagon. The lot was $40 dollars and I figured it was worth it just for the battle wagon. Unfortunately the pieces were a mess, they were globed with so much paint details were lost most of the vehicles were missing parts and I set it aside for a bit to work on other projects.
When the Apoc. game came around I dumped some of the stuff in simple green to strip the paint, I dumped the Deff Koptas the Battle wagon the AoBR Nobz the 2 Killa Kans and the 5 Stormboyz. Most of this stuff made up my previous "to be completed list" before it got revised. The 2 Killa Kans are unfortunately a complete bust they are just to badly damaged between excessive plastic glue use and missing pieces they may become components to other projects later. The Battle Wagon moved to the top of he list. So I split it apart after I stripped the whopping 3 different paint jobs off of it and broke it apart as best I could and reassembled it. I then replaced he missing tail pipe which isn't entirely finished as I haven't decided between a jagged end and a flip top similar to the Trukk, I an always add it later. After that was done I added a GW Deffrolla and Kill Kannon, I enjoy converting but this was a case of picking up what was done adding some more bitz to my box so I could spend efforts elsewhere.
So the first pics while in progress pic which you may recognize the background from when I was working on the Flashgitz and then the completed. Also included are the pics of my first Battle Wagon designed to be modularish by merit of simply not being glued.

Like the wagonz.
Are You going to dirty them up a bit and add some battle damage on those?
10439
Post by: Raskana
Not sure Battle Damage is almost always seen on Ork vehicles but I still remember the mentions of drills and weapons maintenance and what not in the old Blood Axe descriptions in the 2nd Ed. Codex. I can very much see a Blood Axe Warboss requiring regular maintenance of the vehicles and equipment in his Waagh!. I have been going back and forth over it for awhile now and think I might finally make a decision when all of it is painted.

Sooo... its been a looong time since I last posted. So here's whats been happening since then. I have done a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move from Alaska to Washington. The wife stayed behind for a bit to Get the house ready for sale. So it took a long time to get our stuff back and so I could get back hobbying. We got our stuff the 1st week of August. Unfortunately we have a 3 bedroom house plus 3 car garage's worth of stuff in a 2 bedroom house with a one car garage. Needless t say not much room for breaking out stuff for big projects (though I have started some smaller ones that I will post pictures of later as I pick them up again.) Also about 1 week after I left my wife told me she was pregnant (funny we went home for 3 years to try just that and it happens once we leave). We are expecting a baby girl in March so expect updates to be sporadic around that time. The beginning of September I headed to Death Valley for the joys of a National Training Center Rotation that kept me form the hobby for a good 37 days but gave me lots of time to plan stuff. Now I am back with some breathing room and have started to get back into things.
The Lootas I started painting after i finished the Flashgitz. (almost 6 months for 15 models... not my best time) and I am done with Orks for a bit. I will be going back ot them but after the intricacies of those models I am at the point if I do much more I will burn out and maybe not pick them up again for another 8 years. So time for another history lesson to lead in to my next project(s).
When I was in the service my room was where everyone in our group got together to get their paint/converting on. When I was getting ready to get out and move my stuff I told everyone that had something in my closet to make sure they got it out before the movers came. I went home to Alaska and my stuff stayed in boxes except the stuff I was working on at the time, my Space Marines. About a year later i had finished painting them and was ready for another project. I was thinking my Eldar which, needed some major TLC and to finally assemble a couple of the kits I had on hold after setting them aside awhile back. I open the still packed box of stuff and lo and behold sitting on top is a CSM Battle Force and CSM mega Force that had belonged to a buddy from the Army. I set them aside nd then dug out the Eldar and started working away at them, while I tired to get ahold of the guy whose stuff had ended up in my box, all the while remembering the awesome conversions me and him had done for his World Eaters force and what stuff he had planned. After 2 months it had seemed my buddy had dropped off the face of the earth, even his grandmother hadn't heard form him in 6 months after he broke off an engagement and ran off with another girl. After much thought I figured 1.) I had warned him and he hadnt grabbed the stuff even though he had taken the other 3 boxes of his stuff out of the closet and 2.) I had made an effort to get them back to him.
I picked up a codex and started putting together a World Eaters Army, building it as an off shoot of my buddies force. The first model I picked up to go with the force was a daemon prince to lead the Warband. As I was stripping the mold leftovers I was looking at the defiler sprues I was struck by inspiration, What if I took one of the masks form the defilers and made him a giant Khorne Berserker. At this time I had done a very little bit of green stuff work and most of my conversions were kit bashes and filing off other chapters Icons for my space marines. My most ambitious work thus far had been cutting a metal chain fist off a space marine terminator and adding it to an Ork Warboss back in 2nd edition. Well I had a blast tweaking and working with converting the newly dubbed Voranicus. This model is really what started the converting bug in me and over the next 6 years (mainly due to the release of a new codex) I poured a lot of time and effort learning new tricks to make my army unique. While I had learned a lot about converting painting was still an area I was weak in. It wasn't until after i finished painting the last model of my now 7000pts worth of Chaos that I picked my orks back up.
So where does this all lead? Well when they released the new Codex in the middle of my army I decided to take the army in a different direction. Voranicus was pushed to the side and most of the Army transitioned over to a mix of all kinds of units with a mostly undivided leadership. I was kinda sad to do that to what had been a force that had built a fine history during 5 different campaigns but the rules of the new codex didn't led itself well to that kind of force. In October the newest edition of the CSM codex was released, looking through its pages and reading the fluff inspired me to revive Voranicus' Warband. The models have been in storage and have only come out to be lent out for others to use during Apoc and each time I was more and more dissappointed with the paint jobs as compared with my Orks. So Voranicus and his loyal followers are about to be submerged in Totally Awesome (thanks go out to the banner that caught my eye and turned me on this.) Once stripped hes going ot be touched up and repainted. The plastic card work on his helmet is a little rough as well as some of the other work that was done on him, before I dipped him I took some pictures to post here to start off the progress of him and give all of you here in Dakka land a look at my early works, sorry for the poor quality on the pictures the light box did not make the move and I do not have the space to build/store one here, hopefully in another month we will close on a house here and I can spread out again.

While I waited for the paint to slough off Voranicus I put together a World Eater Champion to test out the new paint scheme. I thought this might be prudent since it would be a centerpiece model and not really a good place to test an untried paint scheme. So here a a side be side with one of the old ones. It is very inspiring to see the difference between one of your really old models and a new one. Also of note it took me about the same amount of time as an Ork boy. So not sure if this army is going to go as fast as I planned. Also this model was a test to see if I could change out the hands on these guys to match mroe of the current chaos line up which I think was a success. Now that I am getting ready to put together the rest I will take some pictures of the rest in progress.

So I had a long weekend and got to work on a couple of projects that I am going to break down in posts since wife hogged our now one computer (screen fried on hers.) I didn't get a chance to post.
The first project was to recreate a photo box, I made the first one out of some spare melamine we had lying around after refurbishing the old house. The only issue was that the outside of it was stained pretty bad and had some mildew that even bleach would not kill on it. What that meant was the movers wouldn't pack it as is and honestly I wasn't too keen on the wood anyways it was just scrap I had to work with at the time. I want to eventually build a better one out of wood, but as of right now I have no where to pull out power tools and get cracking on one. So while digging though the garage looking for my box of white dwarfs I stumbled upon a temporary fix. I saw some of the terrain I had built while stationed down in Guam out of foam core. So after some searching since it had been election week here in the US I found some and sat down to build a cheap light box. Not counting the lights which I already had this whole box cost me under 5 bucks.
The materials were
1 sheet of flat scrap booking paper square.
2 sheets Foamcore
Tacky Glue
Step one was to glue the paper down to the foamcore. This provides the base for the box.
After it has dried cut his out, this is your base.
Next cut 2 sides to the height you desire, I just made it as tall as the foam core was wide.
I used the piece left over from cutting out the square, which was already the same width as the base as the top. I then drew some lines to help me center it and figured out how big I would need to make a hole in the top so that light would get through but the light would not fall in.
After cutting it out I started assembly.
Using boxes I made sure the sides attached to the base at a 90 degree angle. I then glued the other side down and added some weight to make sure it would dry mostly flush and let it dry.
After the sides had dried I placed it on the the the remaining foamcore. I cut this piece out flush with the back. Glued it down and added some weight and let it dry.
Once dry viola you now have a light box. Here are the pictures of the process as well as some pics of Voranicus broken apart and reassembled.

So Voranicus is done. I must say I am amazingly impressed with the final result of the painting. He still needs a basing scheme. Previously the Berserkers had the same basing that the Orks do now. I think I may try out some of the new paints. Specifically the basing ones that they just came out with. I am still a little miffed that they discontinued 2 of the colors for my Ork skin (they have a close but not quite exact version of the 2 I may try later,) but the new metallics I used on the Beserkers sold me on the line over all. I have completed 5 more Beserkers and am waiting on parts for the other 2. Once they are done I will post some pics of the first squad. I also tossed another 20 of them in Totally Awesome to start stripping them for conversion/repainting. Since I am at an impasse with the Khornate stuff I also finished up 4 of my next truck mob. The rest will probably follow after i get back form Thanksgiving at home. So with out further Ado the pictures...

I love your use of plasti-card.
What size plasti-card do you use and what tools do you use to chop and cut it?

080 - 010 depending on the project. I use mainly a hobby saw and standard exacto style knife. The knife handle is currently a cheap harbor freight handle that i find quite comfortable since it has a rubber grip. My best advice on it is to make sure you keep your knife sharp and replace the blade often as the tip breaks.

You've definitely improved from your older works. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the Orks.
Keep up the good work.

So Finally got an opportunity to post again. I finally got the bitz in to finish the last 2 Beserkers right before I went home over Thanksgiving. As soon as I got back things went as the usually do a bit hectic, so as of now i am not going to bother saying when I am going to try to update next. Seems every time I do something comes up and I miss the post. So after I finished the last 2 I decided that I was going to add a standard so he pictures today are the last 3 Beserkers are part of my first unit and then the next picture is the 2nd unit. As far as Chaos goes I think the Chaos Lord is next up for dipping/remodeling. Also I got an Airbrush for Christmas. This is something I tried very early in painting (like when I was in High School about oh 15 or so years ago.) At the time I couldn't get it to do what i wanted and i gave up. When I started working on my first Stompa I needed something to do a more even cammo pattern and borrowed a buddies. It worked amazing and since then i have wanted one to speed things like models that are mostly one color and vehicles. So first up for the air brush is going to be the Truk to go with the boys I am now most of the way done with. So expect them soon or maybe in another month or so depending on the that thing we call life.

So got the airbrush out and used it on the trukk along with a couple of other models that will be showing up later. Pictures are included. This trukk came form the same guy that I got the Stompa from, painted with a single coat paint scheme with no high lighting but some VERY heavy use of brown paint as mud. I dipped it in Totally Awesome and then switched out the gunner for one of the ones off the Battle Wagon I recovered earlier. Very little conversion work went into this though I have one that will mare than make up for it that I will probably start working on more after I finish the first 1750 of the Khornate stuff.
Now I have seen some complaints about me moving on form Ork stuff for a bit. So I wanted to show why. The pictures at the bottom of this post are my entire Ork collection to date. Now keep in mind I started rebuilding my Ork stuff in Jan 2010 so this is only 3 years worth of effort. It totals out to about 5700 points of Orks. Yes the 2 stompas make up about 1/5th of that but even still. I need a break form green for a bit and the new Chaos Space Marine Codex gave me an excuse to take a much needed break. The last time I reached burn out point with the Orks it took me 7 years to pick them back up and I really don't want to do that again. All that said if there is something you would like to see closer up I will happily make a post of it. And once again don't fear after I take a break there will be more Ork stuff So here are all my Orks in their glory

So trying to get back into keeping a record here in the blog. Between being a father of a now 2 year old (funny how that's almost how long I have been away form this blog almost like a coincidence or something) and the fact that we are down to one computer which is mostly the wife's purview (even though she's the one that killed the 2 laptops) it's been something I have always tried but failed to get into. So I have a little bit of Ork stuff (sorry the codex and losing all but one of the the last 35 games with Orks so not high on list) and a lot of Chaos stuff done and maybe will get around to posting pics of some if I can keep this going. So why am I bring this blog back form the dead well... a guy at the FLGS I play at has seen me doing some work painting the owners Necrons and seen some of my models and commissioned me to do some work mainly magnetizing a Baneblade kit to allow for all 6 variants. I took it on and he would like regular progress reports so going to post them here and maybe kill to birds with one stone and get back to the blog thing. I will try to detail what I do so others can recreate this project if they want.
So these are the pictures of stage 1. Not much just the main chassis that will remain the same for all variants. I ma on hold for too much more due to lack of styrene cement. I used more then I though building my Orkgis Defense Line a few months back but should have some tomorrow and will get started on it again after 24 hr duty so expect another update say Thursday Night. I ma hoping to have the sponsons, armor plates and the Baneblade/Hellhammer Variants assembled magnetized by then. Then starts the fun of the other 4. So with out further adieu the pictures.

Day 2 of work.
I got about as far as I expected if not quite as far as I hoped on Day 2. My plan for the Baneblade/Hellhammer upper hull worked out. I you notice the 1st two pictures I shaved off the side locking tabs to that plate. I will be doing the same for the front portion for the other variants. The piece now slips and fits nicely. I may add some magnets to it after working on the other variants depending on needs. The other thing I worked on was the side plates/sponsons. while i am fairly certain the sponsons will sit nicely with out magnets the armor plates are as is don't work as well. So tonight I will work on adding magnets to the plates/sponsons and some wire to the chassis to add a decorative latch for the magnets.
Here are the pictures for Day 2

So Tonight's progress was the most complicated part and I think I got it off with only one minor hitch. So in the plan I have set I had to break the upper hull into 4 parts, the nose with the TL Heavy Bolters, the floating piece, the turret, and the rear enginish piece. these are joined mainly via magnets. the nose piece has magnets on the back edge and in the front looking it in to the lower hull. The floating piece has magnets on both ends locking it to the turret and either the nose or the the enginsh piece. I had one minor error in doing the magnets and one of my magnets switched on me on the floating piece. This necessitated what I feel ended up being a good idea over all and i added in two strips of sprue on the inside of the hull. I didn't glue or magnetize the enginish piece to the lower hull nor the piece that rests in this when making all but the Stormlord Variation. The gravity fit on these works fine and the layout of the pieces makes magnetizing overly difficult for not much gain. Oh I almost forgot I shaved off the same tabs on the nose piece that I did on the piece yesterday.
Lining the magnets up proved a bit problematic and if I had to do it over again I would drill through the nose into two Posts inside the turret first after that use the nose piece as a Guide to line up the others. The way it is now works well but I had to add in another magnet to manage to get every thing to sync and that is were i had a polarity issue when the 2nd magnet added near the first flipped on me as I was setting it with insta-cure.
Tomorrow if I have time I will finish the turrets and main guns if not then will have it knocked out Sunday.
Here are the pictures so far.

Assembly finished... mostly. So all variants but one are possible with the work done the last one unfortunately requires a dowel in a diameter that i do not have and won't be able to get till the weekend, so am going to carry on (weather permitting) with painting since adding the dowel into the last barrel piece will not require any repainting. So I ended up adding the wire to the sides to attach the plates/sponsons all that said while the customer wanted it if this were my own I wouldn't have worried about it and probably glued all the plates and sponsons down, the bond isn't as strong as I would like and I think the only other option would be to drill the plates and add magnets inside the plates minus the guides and then green stuff over the divots on the hull. the only other 2 areas to give me fits were the aerials and the plate on top of the fixed turret. It needs to be removable to swap the barrels but is not positioned well for magnets of the size I had available. instead i just added pegs with wire to lock it in. The aerial was a similar problem and in reality only one needs to be swap-able since the fixed turret only has one point so the 2nd aerial was glued to the side of the Baneblade ammo boxes. I tried to get as much of the magnet placement in the pictures below but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. So pictures of the modelling side finished.

So Commission is done to the point the customer asked for. Camo Airbrushed and Name free handed on to side. Overall I am happy with the project though a part of me wants to finish the painting (didn't charge enough to warrant the extra time though much less want customer to wait until my varied schedule manages to finish it.) So next Step is to finish painting some Beserkers Then finish Necron commission. there is no real time frame on the Necron's so going to space out the units with some of my personal work. Keeping my eyes peeled on E-bay and Craigslist for some lots of Ork stuff that will finish out what i need. Will see where things take me. so here are a couple of pictures of the finished product.

So shortly after finishing the Baneblade commission life struck our family with several challenges. We had planned on going home to spend the first solstice on property my wife and I own with another couple in the the 5 years since we bought it(well me anyways she had made it to all of them). The weekend before the event some inconsiderate people who were setting off fireworks during a burn ban caught 8000 acres on fire including ours. So instead of relaxing we spent the whole 2 weeks recovering the property from the fire. While on this trip I found out that upon returning to work I would very shortly be traveling out of state for 30 days. Then I got back to work and found out that I would be transferring to the other side of the country by October 10th. Prior to all this I had planned a campaign for our local group involving a Chaos invasion and the imperial defense. I was excited adn it spurned on a gathering of some stuff to build, but also highlighted the fact that I have a lot of projects sitting uncompleted in my cue. This combined with the packing and moving decided me something needed to be done. Our resettling took a lot longer then I would of liked and we spent 60 days in a hotel before we closed on a house and started to get settled. While perusing the internet for ideas on chaos renegade conversions I stumbled upon this - http://6mmrpc.blogspot.com/. I was way too late as the 2nd annual one as it was going to end a week after I found it but talking to the founder he gave me permission to run with it starting Jan 1st. So this is going to accomplish 2 things hopefully;
1. Get em to clear out some of backlogged projects (including the last of the Ork stuff)
2. Post more on my blog.
As a father I don't get out to game as much so the little bit of encouragement i get form posting goes a long way to keep me motivated on projects. So I will try to start the weekly posting detailing my prep work on my Mountain of plastic. Today I will show both some shots of Grey Knights I did in the hotel room as well as 2 conversions I did for them as my first projects in the new house. Please excuse the quality as they movers killed my photo box and we have yet to locate the camera so these are cellphone pics.
Grey knights were supposed to be one of the available assets to players during the campaign and I came across a good deal on a box of them form a little store on the way. The rest were purchased after the move while waiting on my the house and getting my other projects. I am planning on finishing them The Dreadnought started out as a spare AoBR dread with gratuitous use of spare Furiouso bits. The Dread knight is most the original kit with some pieces from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue and a lot of green stuff. My goal is to have all 1000 pts of the asset done before the 1st of Jan.

That is quite possibly the best looking Nemesis Dreadknight I've ever seen! My only criticism is that the pose is a bit static, but it looks imposing and intimidating in that pose anyway. I look forward to seeing the "mountain reduced" as well, best of luck!

Yah! a 1000pt Grey Knight Force complete.
We have:
1 Librarian with Force Staff
5 Man Terminator Squad
5 Man Strike Squad
5 Man Interceptor Squad
1 Dreadnought
1 Dread Knight
Next up is to take on some IG I got in Ebay lots with vehicles for my Chaos Renegades army that are going to become PDF. While the GK force painting was done to test out the planned method of repainting my SM I am trying a different technique with the PDF. I am making my own wash and am going to be doing minimal painting trying to knock out a large swath of troops very quickly. I may use this same technique on Cultists and Plague Zombies during the 6MMRC so going to test it out now so i have an idea of how to set my goals.
On to the pics. Admittedly not my best paint jobs ever but for models that won't see the light of day outside of a Campaign or an Apoc game I think they are good enough,

It is now official and the Journey has started. I managed to finish the PDF Guard Just in time, I ma happy with how they turned out for what they are. These were painted one by priming with an Army painter colored primer, then painting the flesh, leather and Armor. I then used the Les was Recipe from http://theleadheadblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/making-your-own-washes.html. After the wash dried I highlighted the flesh painted and washed the metal portions and then detailed the icons, eyes, and unit markings. Its not the best paint job I have done but is serviceable and doesn't look out of place among my other models. I will be using this technique on my Chaos Cultists and Plague Zombies as I work through the challenge. I also started the last step which was sorting and organizing(reorganizing in some cases) my bits. I got about half way done with sorting the last years worth of acquisitions and some resorting of bits that had been pulled out for projects and didn't get used. So I am now as ready as I will ever be (well kind of have to be since it is officially started).
So first up in the attempt to clear out some of my back log of projects is to complete a project I have been working on for awhile. Back in 2013 for Armies on Parade I built some chaos cultists using Ungor models, as item has passed I found myself using cultists less and less as I tend to play Khornate Chaos and load up on Beserkers (yes I am aware that they suck.) I started building a few more with the intention of using them as IG allies to my chaos forces, then 7th Ed rolled around. They got put on the back burner for a little while until I discovered the Lovely IA13 Renegades and Heretics list. While I do not have the Rule book yet I have "acquired" a copy I am using to work on a modeling a list and when I lose the battle with my reasoning and wallet I will probably be picking up a copy. I have one Platoon done as well as a Rouge Psyker and the start of the Command group. I picked up 32 already converted Models using Cadian Torsos and arms and these are the first big project of the 6MMRC.
I have included some pics of the Armies on Parade as well as the completed PDF. Since I am heading back to work full time after 1/2 days for the Holidays I am aiming for about a squad a week. We will see as time progresses if this is achievable. So here are the pics (got the photo box repaired but a side project of this challenge will prob be to build a bigger/better one.)

After some deliberation and taking into account my schedule I have decided Sun Morning is the end of my Week for the Challenge. One post a week sounds like a manageable rate and I may add more posts if one of the projects becomes more involved than just painting. So I aimed for 1 squad a week and well i made that plus this week. I managed 1 1/2 squads fully painted and the otehr half down to final highlights AND even managed to get the Maulerfiend that has been assembled and primed and sitting on my Hobby Desk to be painted for the last 6 months (well not quite since he was in a box in transit for about 2 1/2 of that.)
The main push this week was my Beastmen Renegades and Heretics Platoon. As stated in my last post these guys started as cultists in an Armies on Parade entry and I have started building them form there. The ones i am painting now were a find on ebay. As i had gone along searching the web I had come across a few images of a conversion involving cutting the legs off of Ungors and adding Cadian torsos and arms and then Ungor heads. I loved the look of it and started collecting the requisite pieces then right before we left WA a lot of them ended up on ebay. I snatched them up and have been chomping at the bit to put paint to them sicne we moved into the new house. After a lot of thought I decided to keep the red color for the cloth to help tie the army together, the other options I had thought about were green (didn't think it would mix well with others) black, and blue. The Armor Portion also went through some consideration going form bone, to black to finally grey. I am very happy with the look. The only model in the lot that is a conversion by me is the Gor Demagogue. A theme of the Army is the Gors being in Leadership roles over the smaller Ungor. He was an early attempt at the Warlord of the Army that didn't quite look Warlordy enough. I took a CSM chest piece and a SM vehicle sprue back and carved down the lower portion leaving the top rounded portion of the armor. I then carved down the top of the Gor body and until it matched the curvature of the armor piece. I then added a Gor standard army with a leftover power sword bit form my Berserker conversions. I was wondering what I was going to do with him until this unit came along and trying to figure out what the unit's Demagogue was goign to be as unarmored Gor just didn't mesh as well. I still think he is a little off and will be playing around with the design again when i build the 3rd platoon for the Army. I also have plans to build some Grenadiers in his style for the final army list. Next weeks goal is the last of this platoon and then we will be tackling some more stuff that is primed and waiting paint. before I delve into the deeper portions of the Mountain.
So the talking complete here are the pictures. Also if anyone can recommend a good picture hosting place other than Photobucket (a long while back my wife maxed out her free account and made one under my e-mail and its pretty close to maxed out as well) I would greatly appreciate it. Only requirements is it has to be either free or cheap (under $10 a year) with a decent amount of storage space.

Week 2 was not quite as productive as Week 1 but it stills sees the 2nd Platoon of Renegades done. In addition I finally got the display case I got last Christmas Assembled and filled with models that don't have a foam tray yet. The case is adding inspiration. I also Spent some time at Siege of Augusta, a Historical Gaming Con held locally. A long while ago I started looking at other games to branch out to outside of GW. Bolt Action was one such game and watching it played has defiantly convinced me to pick it up once the Challenge is done. While I was there I also saw some fake fur gaming mats that I will probably be constructing when I have the chance.
Next up is a black legion squad, and maybe some cultists and beserkers if time is on my side. Sorry this is all boring paint stuff but trying to clear out what is assembled and primed before starting anything new.

So Week 3 was kinda a planned slow down, or at least I was worried I wouldn't have as much time to devote. It was one of the reasons I choose the Black Legion models that had been sitting in my back log. This week looks the same but I have a set myself a goal of 17 cultist painted in the wash technique I used on the PDF Guardsman, I am hoping that that will work. In addition this week I want to knock out the skin tone paint scheme for the Plague Zombies, My mother in-law is coming down over this next weekend and my wife has aspirations of us getting a hotel room and escaping Fri. or Sat. night ans since Sat. morning and Fri. night are my big work times I may not meet those goals. Anyways here is the shot of this weeks progress.

Yah!, I managed to get my goal accomplished, well kinda. It turns out that of the 17 primed black cultist type models 4 of them were my zombie conversions I thought were in a different box. So the main goal was the cultist of which I actually had 13. In addition the wife and I got a weekend out which may put a little of a dent in my work this week but the gal is smallish. This weeks goal is my converted Abaddon and his 5 Bringers of Despair with converted Combi Plasma and A Standard. So my biggest reservation with this is I ma free handing a Black Legion Banner on said banner, in addition I tend to take a little more time on character models so even with the 6 total model count and the simplistic scheme of Black legion I am worried I am going TO miss my goal this week.
So the other portion of this week was to try a flesh tone scheme for my Plague zombies. I have a picture of the first trial up for this week. Its Camo Green (the old Citadel Paint) with a layer of my sepia wash and then a final coat of Pallid flesh. The goal is to paint these in the Block and Wash technique I used on the Cultists and PDF. I kinda like the Green but am wondering if a purple might work better. Please let me know what you think.

So this week saw more interference in my ability to paint then any other. Between the mother in laws visit, to a sudden 24 hr Duty shift and to top it off our house being hit with the plague I pretty much missed my normal deadline. I normally take the pictures in the morning before my daughter wakes up since it is dark outside by turning off the lights around the living room I can achieve a dark room effect with my light box to get the pictures to turnout okay (photography is not my strong suit so okay is great for me.) Since I woke up after a long night of dealing with a sick 3 year old I woke up well after the sun rose and missed my opportunity to take a picture of the 1 model I had managed to finish I figured I would put off posting till this evening and try to push through to finish the models i had in progress. Thus at this the end of the day after sun has set and the little one is in bed I am finally finished taking photos and starting my post.
So this week we have some of the last of my primed models that were awaiting paint, I have 15 Beserkers and 8 Raptors now left from a massive batch of Khornate stuff I airbrushed the Red on about ohhh 2 years ago I think. After that I can get back to doing some conversion and assembly work again. I am very excite to be getting to that point. I REALLY wish I had taken some in progress shots of the Abaddon model before priming him. I am very proud of how this model turned out. He is a fine cast sculpt form GW cut at the waist and extended to normal Terminator height I also extend the arms with a bit of green stuff positioning them o the proper portions of current edition terminators. I loved Abaddon's model when i first started playing and while the size difference bugged me as the new terminators came out I still had a soft spot for him. Until about 2 years ago I had no reason to get him and since the size turned me off enough to do him as a one off character model and I am not a huge fan of using named characters in game he was one of those "maybe if he's included in a lot of other stuff" figures. Then on a trip back home to AK a friend of mine had decided to drop the hobby and he gave me all his CSM stuff mostly un-assembled Khornate models, but also a number of assembled but unpainted Black Legion CSM marines and a rhino with FW Black legion doors. Also in the lot were about 20 more shoulder pads and seem more Black Legion rhino doors. Since the last edition of Codex:CSM I had transitioned my undivided Chaos forces back over to a World Eaters only legion. I still wanted to kind of do undivided chaos and the Black Legion had interested me. Thus I went through the lengthy process of tracking down an Abaddon model. I wanted fine-cast over metal because I new the process I wanted to go through to expand the model, and even though there are a wealth of awesome Abaddons out there made from the Terminator Lord kit I wanted to use the original model. It took me 3 weeks of checking all the stores in about a 60 mile radius till I found one that had him, this process also started sowing more heavily my animosity towards GW corporate. Apparently he had become a direct only model at some time and I was told at all 3 GW stores I went to that they had sent all the blisters they had back to corporate about 2 months before I started my search since they were no longer allowed to sell the model. So after finding him in a small FLGS I started work hat night. the fine cast cut easy and I pinned the model at the correct height and the length of the arms with wire. The next day I had the first layer of GS down. Day 3 saw the final layer done and smoothed. I went back and forth over the ports in the back and almost cut some off a spare terminator back I had before just deciding to leave them of at this time. I add some guitar wire to the front portion after not feeling the front needed something. After having painting him up I made go back and add the ports after all because the back does look a bit off now that it is painted.
This weeks other time consuming project this week was free handing a banner for the Bringers of Despair. I remembered on of the games i played at a tournament for 2nd Ed that Black Legion had a chapter banner. I wanted to recreate that banner for Abaddon retinue. Thankfully google came to the rescue because none of the CSM books I had from 3rd Ed on had it to include the Black Legion Supplement and Eye of Terror global campaign book. These guys are also all lightly converted form the banner bearer to the 3 combi-plasma made form CSM terminator storm bolters and spare SM plasma pistols. I also made a press mold off one of the Black Legion shoulder pads and made green stuff chapter insignia for all of their shoulder pads.
So next weekend is a 4 day for me so I am hopping to get a the last of my assembled and primed models done. If nothing else goes forward getting these models painted has been a major relief as every time I would work on something new it would bug me that I was not finishing something I had already started. If anyone wants a tutorial on the Combi-Plasma I will try to track down the page I used to do my conversions and post a link here. So here are the pictures.

So this week's update is very late. This week I got some painting done as well as a little bit of the work towards a new photo box. Also as of today I got in my first game in over 3 months and the first time meeting he local 40K players.. This week more importantly lead me to an epiphany on why I suddenly slowed what had been steady progress to a deadlock then a crawl.
See I enjoy modeling more than painting and the sooner I can paint a model after I build it the mroe excited I am about painting said model. I embarked on a quest to repaint my chaos army into a newly painted World Eaters Host and for awhile I was excited about this project. I entered the Armies on Parade with several of the models and played several games with them, The whole while something bugged me with them. I made it through 5 Beserker squads of 8 each before I just lost the desire to paint them. I painted a 25 point Khador Warmachine force as well as some Menoth and Cryx models, I painted some Zombicide stuff but I kept avoiding them. I even had Abaddon and his Retinue and the other Black Legion models primed but there was this thought of "I need to finish the World Eaters first." That kept stalling me. I managed took the Beastmen Cultists and transformed them into a Platoon of Renegades which I warranted with "Well they Started as part of the World Eaters." So this week in painting progress almost hit a stop again, and I figured out why. After Armies on Parade I took a break and then came back to painting and modeling the army, while progress was not great my daughter was an infant so painting time was only done after she slept. I managed about a squad a month. I got a break when my wife took my daughter to Alaska and pushed through assembly of the last 4 squads.
Then 7th Edition came out, I played a couple of games and well my World Eaters could not compete, I shifted my focus over to the newly acquired Black Legion trying to build just enough to use as allies and mix in units I wanted to convert over but hadn't acquired the parts and just used stock models, things like the Helldrake and some Obliterators. I started to move to Warmachine for a bit got a force painted up for that and then tried to go back. Then the nail went into other coffin of my motivation... Codex Khorne Daemonkin.
I love this codex with one MAJOR exception, to play some of the units I spent weeks converting and painting (or not getting around to painting) can't be fielded in the Bloodhost formation with out needing MORE of the same type. This mainly applies to my Bikes and Raptors. Couple this with the fact that I don't have the pieces I need to do said conversions I either go with a disjointed force, spend time tearing apart models that i already built and painted and to make the unit smaller to field as multiple units or just not use them. In addition one of my favorite conversions no could no longer be fielded, my Bloodsmith (Warpsmith with Mark of Khorne I converted over and will get some pictures up of later.) My first plan was to jsut add the units anyways, and thsu the project became an overwhelming burden. Progress stopped and since I didn't want to work on something else till this was done painting became a horrible chore. This week I finished 10 of the last 16 beserkers, After those 16 are done I have 8 Raptors and 8 CSM with the Mark of Khorne then the World Eaters are going to be closed. I am not building 8 more bikes or figuring out how to change the Raptors into Warp talons. I will add some Daemons to the mix when I tackle daemons but as far as the Space Marine side of Khorne it is done. Apart of me is disappointed by this decision but I will say the 2nd 5 of the Beserkers done after I amde this choice went much faster then the first 5.
I didn't bother setting up the light box so the quality of this weeks pics is low but they are here and up.

So last 6 Beserkers are done, finally and that is a huge relief. This also brings me to the last 8 models left in the cache of stuff the Khronate Raptors. There is a twinge of excitement over finally clearing out the back log of figures. I have several ideas for the Renegades that I want to get started on but I am trying to be good and finish the back log first. My hope is that after next week the back log will be done. Once I finish the Raptors I will probably do an Army Shot of my World Eaters,
So this week is mostly kit bashes like last week with one main exception, Champion Garua. Inspired by Goro form Mortal Combat and with a desire to make a heavily mutated and unique champion. Originally he was going to be one of 7 Lords to run around with my Daemon Prince but got demoted to champion when I got the Black Legion stuff and decided to do more than one Legion in my Chaos Space Marine Army. I took 2 CSM torsos and cut them in 3/4 from the bottom and 3/4 from the top and then joined them together. I then took 4 Ungor arms and extra chain swords I had left over from earlier Beserker conversions were I replaced the ham-fists with current sized CSM hands. I used one set of the old ham fists in the champion form last week, to make Champion Baneus (inspired by Bane form Batman). He was a fairly quick conversion requiring a little bit of green stuff around he arms and the join in the middle. The pony tail on his head is from a set of Gor horns of which the horns went into another champion conversion.
Next weeks goal is the 8 Raptors, the last of the back log and the 2nd to the last unit of World Eaters I need to finish.

Sooooo... yeah didn't make my goal this week. I swear these Raptors are cursed, every time I try to make some progress on them something happens. Anyways despite my mom coming a week early and thus losing most of my painting time to the now frantic cleaning and having to take a day to pick her up form Charlotte AND the invasion of little bugs (no not Tryanids, termites) I think it is a wonder I got even half the squad done. Too boot I have had to reattach several claws to the lightning claws and a couple of legs that had been cut and re- positioned as I was painting them it is a blessing to be done with even this many.
So these models have been a work in progress since the release of the Multi-part Possessed kit. I gathered the bits for them form either kits I bought, other players, and form the old Battlewagon bitz. Originally they were just on the running Beserker legs but as I started redoing my Chaos I re-positioned many of the legs and mounted them on the stems form flying bases. In addition I took a heat gun to some of the wings and adjusted them slightly. The claws on the champion are power fists that had the fingers cut off and replaced with knives form the CSM kit a technique I used to make a couple of others for my World Eaters champions..
Next week I will get a picture of them in the light box with the other 4. If i get them done early I will start on the Renegade and Heretics Beastmen Grenadiers and take some WIP pics of them.

Week 9 was much more productive than the last few. I got the Raptors done, and started working on the next few units of my Renegades and Heretics list. It felt so good to be converting again, i much prefer building to painting .
So after I finished the raptors I started on the Grenadiers. These are both a unit I wanted to convert up and field as well as a test run for my Command squad to see if I wanted to do them the same way or do it differently. I decided to do them just using the stock Beasitgor bodies, as I don't think the conversion would look as well on most of the bodies I have. I am quite happy with the final product of the Grenadiers I went with a conversion similar to the old Kraskin hotshot lasguns as opposed to the newer Tempestus Scions look. I also converted over my Master of Renegades. I used a Chaos Warrior Torso, Beastigor Champion bits, and the legs form a spare Gor Body. Lastly I through some spare guns in holsters on some of my Gor bodies that were still assembled when they were proxied as Daemons in a previous codex version of the army (you will notice some stubborn paint left over on some of the grenadiers.
As you will be able to see in the pictures below quite a few bits go into the Grenadiers; we have a SM vehicle crew back, a SM or CSM front, a bolter and arms(i have been using Space Wolf and Black Templar ones), a vehicle sprue IG lascarbine , the up raised horns and Gor Head with the hair clipped form the back, a Gor body, and finally a length of guitar wire.
Cut the two body pieces under the curve of the breast plate then glue these pieces together. Drill a hole in the area where the cables came off the back piece the size of your guitar wire.
Cut the Gor body just under the flat attachment points for the arms and file and trim the sides of the cut to the shape of the front of the breast plate. Then attach the breast plate to the model.
Assemble the head and attach it to the breast plate.
Cut the magazine and barrel of the bolter off. Then drill a hole where the magazine was that fits your guitar wire. Then cut the barrel off the lascarbine and attach it to the front of the bolter.
Attach the arms and hot shot lasgun to the model.
Green stuff the back with musculature to fill any gaps you have on the back side of the model and fill any gaps on the front.
Finally attach the guitar wire between the 2 holes. Viola Beastmen Grenadier (or Tempestus Scion if you are going loyalist.)
So this weeks painting goal is all the stuff that got assembled this week, I am also hoping to knock out assembling the last 5 grenadiers. Now for the pics.

So this week is a win, even if I did not get the other 5 Grenadiers assembled. I enjoyed painting the models I had and it was a welcome change to the World Eaters I was working on before.
So completed this week are five Grenadiers, four Gor that were going to be a retinue and now are changing to a veteran squad, and my Master of Renegades. I still have not named him but so far nothing has come to me. Next week will be a little bit of a wash as far as progress goes. I did mange to throw together the Beastigors for the new retinue and 3 of the Grenadiers. After this batch it is on to the Armor and then the last platoon of Ungor models. Not sure what is up after that I still need to sort the Black Legion stuff and Strip my Space Marines though I do have several AoBR Ork Boyz to finish up for a green tide so maybe that will come next.. Is there anything you guys want to see let me know.

So I know I missed last week but that was kind of expected. I had a wonderful trip to Savannah Area, spent some time on Tybee Island, visited with some old friends, and took a dolphin tour.
Over the course of last week I finished the Grenadiers, Putting them on the shelf they mesh well with the rest of the renegades. That was all I expected to manage with the trip that weekend and the workload that week.
This week I made a little more, I finished the 4 converted Beastigors (admittedly very minor conversions) that make up my Command Squad. These were some hand swaps and then the addition of some Lasguns with green stuffed straps on their hips. Once again I am happy with the aesthetic as they blend well with the rest of he army. I also started and finished restoring 4 Leman Russes from various Ebay lots. With the exception of 1 they were all poorly assembled and required being completely torn apart and re-assembled I also had to dip into my bits bin to acquire all the parts needed to finish them. I had to scratch build the top of one of the hull mounted weapons since the piece was MIA and the spare I had did not quite match up. These tanks will finish up the last of the Renegade Army for the time being.
So the group here is starting to make a major shift to 30K and reading the lists I thought "Hey these guys might make a good Cultists & Militia Army." After playing around with some lists I have scrapped that idea. IF I add in some extra Lasgun models to my 2 platoons I end up with about 700 points of models that transfer out of 1500 in the 40k IA list. the executioners don't trnasfer over and I don't have enough of any other models to make units for most of the rest of the list. Its sad but got me to thinking how overpriced most of the IG stuff is for the difference to be so great. SM's transfer over fairly evenly between the 2 and since they are the basis of "balance" between the 2 lines. If I can get my 40k SM finished by the end of the challenge I may take the plunge and pick up a Betrayal at Calath set and build a small force to play here.
This weeks goal is to get the 4 tanks done as well as a few one off models that are assembled but need primed or are primed that don't have anything else with them. I have a Black Legion Nurgle Lord, a Riddick inspired Inquisitorial and we will see what else i find. So with out further adieu here are the pictures.

So didn't get a chance to post yesterday, I had Charge of Quarters duty from 6-6 and by the time I got home was too wiped to take pictures and write a post. So today we have the finished tanks for my Renegades and heretics as well as a counts as Typhus for my Black Legion.
The tanks are just Ebay Salvage and I didn't find too many more bits of flash or mold lines as finished painting them though there were more than a few gaps I will just live with.
Finishing Draegor the Gluttonous was another exciting achievement for me. I started on him after the Armies on Parade I entered the World Eaters in. He is a Fantasy Nurgle Lord mixed with spare terminators bits and a lot of GS. I am excited as to how he turned out and am actually feeling the idea of building some Plague Marines and maybe some FW terminators to go with him. I was originally going to paint him in a Death Guard theme, but following the fluff for Black Legion I decided to just make it a Nurgle Detachment to my Black Legion forces.
This weeks goal is kinda hazy, I have some more random figures left on my painting desk that I hoped to get to last week but didn't. Also while sorting through my stuff I located some WM Winter Guard Rifle Corps that are already primed. With the Renegades done I should move on to my SM but there is just this... Dread for lack of a better word to starting them. I am not sure why as I have fits of excitement towards them and tons of ideas, only every time the hobby log frees up to start them I find something else to do. Perhaps I will through the first batch into some Totally Awesome this week and get them stripped while i paint up the other stuff.
Here are pictures of last weeks progress.

So thanks to Work I lost last weekend and the weekend before was a whirlwind of activity at our house so I missed that post as well. In addition my goals have been missed the last 2 weeks. I FINALLY finished the last two weeks of goals tonight. All but 2 of the pics failed to turn out so I might (prob will get distracted and not manage to do it) get around to taking more later.
So goal for week 14 was all 10 of my Winter Guard Rifle Corps and a few other Khador solos, I finished half of those mid way through week 15. Weeks 15's goal was to finish the Rifle Corps and base all my Khador models. I finished that tonight. On the plus side week 14's other goal was to through the painted SM's into some Totally Awesome and start striping the paint off of them, and I got that done on Monday of week 16.
I did find enough assembled but unpainted SM's to get a Tactical squad and a Devastator squad armed with Plasma Cannons to start on the SM's on the 24 hr duty I have to pull on Sat.
So the snow basing on the Khador models was done using a home made baking soda mixture. I LOVE the way it turned out, and ma seriously considering using it on my SM's as I finish them. So the only pic that really turned out was a group shot of all my Khador models, most are stock though Aiyana and Holt have some minor mods, notably she has a fur ruff added to her cloak and he has a Khador Fur hat courtesy of an old metal pSorcha. One of the hooded Widowmakers has a slightly shaved face and a bit of green stuffed hair to make the face a bit more feminine.
Hopefully after Saturday I will be back on schedule and will have 20 painted SM's for Sunday evening report.
C&C and questions welcome.

So missed last weeks update but made half of my goal. Finished the rest of it this week. In addition started scrubbing he paint off the rest of the marines that have been sitting in totally awesome for he last 3 weeks. This is a much simpler color scheme then my previous one. The idea and shift towards it came form a Blanchitsu article in White Dwarf. Some one had converted a True-scale marine for Inquisimunda. They had painted him in simple metal armor more like a knight errant. I had always seen the Space Marines more as Knightly orders and i had incorporated many elements form the Black Templar Upgrade kit in my original build of he Army. In addition I had a red, white, and black paint scheme that while striking on the table top was a pain in the but to paint in the manner I was now painting. So the Magi have gone through a shift, Becoming more inline with a mystical Knightly Order. I have also adjusted the Chapter symbol unto a Templar cross to more easily meld in elements from the Black Templars. Rules wise the chapter fights more like Crimson Fists and I have plans to do a counts as Pedro Kantor as part of the 6MMRC.
I also painted up 2 stand alone models I had a Commissar I got in an Ebay lot with one of the LRMBTs I painted up a couple of weeks ago and a Inquisitorial Henchman I model up using some leftover Catachan Bits form a lot I picked up for converting my Ungor Guardsmen.
This weeks goal is to assemble 20 more Marines for painting and panting up the Monster/NPC half of Iron Kingdoms Unleashed Adventurers Tool Kit.

So the double week posts are becoming more of a regularity then i would like, that said here are the last 2 weeks of progress. The IKURPG stuff got mostly done with 2 models ,all but the Warlord and the Bone Grinder getting done. The following weeks saw significantly more progress.
I finished the last 2 IKURPG models, then since I was waiting on GS to dry I painted up 2 more models that were laying around, A Crusader that was modeled up around the time I did the other inquisitorial Henchman, He is a pretty Straightforward conversion. I took a Bretonian Men at Arms body, shield and sword arm, then I cut off the blade and added the blade for a SM power sword, I then took a Chaos Marauder head and shaved off the hons and sculpted a closed face for it.
The other model is another model for my eventual venture into IKRPG. This is a Cyrxian Necromancer based off an old Sorcha model with a Blood Gorger sickle and a Denny2 head. The head/hat of the Sorcha model went into my Holt conversion. I am happy with the over all look of the model as I think it has a Cyrxian feel but bringing in something a little different. This is intended to be a recurring villain for the PC's and will start as the main antagonist of the "Fools Rush In" adventure.
Continuing the huge effort this week was completing not 1 but 2 more squads of the Magi. That is Tact Squad V and Assault Squad VII done. I have now earned a complete hatred for GW Jump Packs, after a lot of work fitting and then GS gaps I still fond some gaps i missed while painting the models. I will say that these packs are some of the worst bits I have put together in some time. I am a little disappointed in myself at jsut having thrown them together gaps and all and sloshing paint on them before.
So all told amazing progress on the Challenge. This week's queue is the last 5 models form the Warmachine 2 player box set, the 5 Exemplar Cinerators as well as 2 other Warmachine Solos, a Doc Killingsworth form a lot on eBay I picked up with a joker with a lot of other bits and partial models for IKRPG conversions/npc's as well as a Rhupert Carvolo form the same lot. In addition I am going to try to brush clean and Prep the Command Squad, Captain and enough SM's for the last Tact Squad to finish a Demi Company.
Now on to the last 2 Weeks pictures of Progress.

So week 20 is done and I am only posting 2 days late, woohoo victory. That said I did not get as much accomplished as I would have liked. I have been spoiled by the simplistic paint job of my SM's and also forgot how detailed Privateer Press models were . Though the Cinerators are now done and with them the two Player Battle Box I bought over a year ago is now finished. There is a thrill of victory to this as well as a firm appreciation for the color scheme of the Menoth force. I went with a brass metallic instead of gold but otherwise kept the colors very similar to the standard scheme. I almost decided on this instead of the Iron look for my SMs. Having done a set of models in it I am thankful that I went the way I did. I do still have a few other Menoth models and an entire Menoth All-in-One box left in my Warmachine stuff, I may or may not get to that in the last few weeks of the challenge. I did take the time to add some flavor to the unit leader, the Scroll states "Cleanse the Dark in his Holy Name" in the Menite Alphabet thanks to a wonderful person at the PP forums who complied the alphabets into a spreadsheet.
I am currently washing off the last of the old paint for the last bit of the SM Demi Company and I am hoping to finish that off this week with the Memorial Day weekend coming up. Here;s the pic of the Cinerators.

So week 22 went well. I got a lot of stuff done, pictures as always at the end of the post. So memorial day week/weekend got me through a good chunk of stuff. I finished up the Demi Company of Space Marines, the Paint scheme I I have makes completing them ridiculously easy. I can manage about 20 in about 26 hours of painting. So that is halfway through a battle company. I will try to knock out the rhinos for the squads completed this week. I also completed a conversion I have had in mind for some time now involving the young Sicarus form the AoBR set. I know have my counts as Pedro Kantor completed and I Give you Chapter Master Raskana. His command squad is also on the list of things to do this week.
Also during the week I managed to knock out 2 of the WM mercenaries I failed to get done the week before.
So this last weeks push was based on a WM tournament that was supposed to happen Sat. A MACE qualifier 50 point with 2 lists, my goal was to take my Khador but following the list construction I needed to readjust my lists and add some models. I had a Greylord Ternion I had decided against painting before as I was not sure if i was going to keep it as well as a couple of the older metal Warjacks I was planning on selling on Ebay.
So form those we put together a Marauder and the Greylords, using 2 of my Jokers from the challenge I picked up an ESorcha and Beast 09. I got most of them finished minus basing on Monday. Beast 09 was picked up form the local shop on Wed. and I finished him on Friday as well as basing all of the models. I also painted up a Eiryss the same lot as the Ruphert and Doc Killingsworth. The last thing completed this week was a Effigy of Valor using a Christmas Decoration form my Terrain box.
Lastly in between waiting on washes and primers to dry I finished a new Photo Box.
I will have pics of Beast 09 and the Effigy next week since I took pictures on Monday evening with the (fruitless) hopes of updating that night.

My 6 months are up and its kind of a relief. The last couple of weeks were rough, putting all that effort into a tournament that didn't happen took a lot of motivation out of me. In addition I tried to build a Chaos list for an Apoc game which turned into a frustrating experience that finally left me so upset I just quite instead of bringing a poor attitude to the 12 hr game. I did manage to get the vehicles for the Space Marines done as well as the Honor Guard for the Chapter Master. Last Thursday I went to an unboxing, assembly and painting event at a FLGS for Warmachine. I managed to get the Battle Box painted minus bases, and that spurred me on to work on my Iron Fangs. I got the base models painted and the shield arms magnetized, I ran out of magnets for he shields and besides want to look into adding metal washers to the backs of them instead and see if that works before using 24 more magnets. I drilled out he holes on the Standards deeper to allow for a swap of those with out magnets.
Over all this challenge was a wonderful journey and I gained a few new skills over the process. While I did not meet all my goals I still managed to acomplish a huge amount of work.
A look at what I got painted
Platoon of Chaos Renegades (30) Chaos Cultists (12)) Winter Guard Rifle Corps (10)
Squad of Chaos Grenadiers (10) 3 Tactical Squads (30) Epic Sorcha (1)
Renegade Command Squad (5) Devastator Squad (10) Manhunters (2)
Finished out a 5 man vet squad (4) Assault Squad (10) Marauder Warjack (1)
Black Legion squad (10) Command Squad (5) Beast 09 (1)
Abaddon (1) Captain (1) Doc Killingsworth (1)
Bringers of Despair (5) Librarian (1) Ruphert Carvalo (1)
Khorne Beserkers (24) Honor Guard (5) Farrow Side of IKURPG (10)
Khorne Raptors (8) Chapter Master (1) Exemplar Cinerators (5)
Leman Russ Main Battle Tanks (2) Inquisitorial henchmen (3) Eiryss (1)
Leman Russ Executioners (2) Rhinos (4) Koldun Lord (1)
Mauler Fiend (1) Razorback (1) Greylord Ternion (3)
Chaos Nurgle Lord (1) Whirlwind (1) Black Legion Term Sorcerer (1)
I used a total of 6 jokers during the challenge,
So a grand total of 225 models. I am now better with my Airbrush and can make my own washes. I don't think I will try something like this again as 6 months seemed to long to try to keep up the goal. I think maybe 3 months for me would be a good length of time.
With that I think I am taking a break form painting minis and going to work on my terrain some. I will try to keep up the blog a little now the the challenge is done.

I did a personal 6MMRC starting at the begining fo the year. this September started a shorter official one, this time only 3 months, since I still have a chunk of my mountain I figured I would take part. In the time since my 6MMRC I have swung heavily into the Iron Kingdoms, participating in a Journeyman League for Warmachine and starting an Iron Kingdoms RPG group. That brings us to week 1 of the 3MMRC. Week 1 was mostly stuff for my IKRPG group. I had one Player Character left to convert and paint Ed Carington, an Aristocrat/Investigator. He is a very flamboyant character and we used an old IKRPG model Guildon for the base. I switched out the Electro Rod with the cane sword and removed the sword from his back. I then sculpted out some of the back lost with the sword and added a pistol holstered on his leg. Also from the groups last adventure I have Anna Kareen and Vincent striker. The Journeyman Warcasters competing in a Grind Match (I am running it as an illegal Jack Fighting game in my campaign.) I also added paint to Anna's Jacks as they and her will be recurring NPC's in the campaign. Something else that occurred this week was a Painting Competition at my FLGS. The challenge was 2 fold the first one was to bring in a painted copy of the Slaughterpriest from September's White Dwarf. The 2nd part was a speed painting competition of an Eldar Death Jester. I took 3rd in the WD model and 4th in the speed painting. I managed to get all but the basing done on it before time was called so not too bad for an hour of painting.
So there you have it my first weeks worth of work. Not as much as most weeks during my 6MMRC but a good start. Here's the group shot, sorry for the crappy photos but didn't get the photo box set up and wife had the camera so they were taken with my phone.

So below is my progress on week 2. I managed all but final high lights on the 3 Grind Jacks and just need to finish eyes and basing on the Gun mage. Though I did finish my building(s) for the 4th Achievement of the Crossroads of Courage Season 1. I am finding myself struggling for motivation to paint. I had intended to have the 3 jacks painted for this last weeks adventure and managed what you see in the picture. The gun mage who is so far the Campaigns Big Bad was 1 of my jokers. I had always intended to get the model and when I stopped into a recently opened game store in my community there the model was on the rack. Ironically I had just finished the last figure of the party when in a side adventure that should have barely been challenging the party managed to wipe itself. I fudged the rolls as often as I could but short of just failing every roll I could not counter half the parties desire to just do the dumbest things possible. Some of them are keeping character images that will be very similar though the other 2 (the ones that basically got he party killed) will be going in completely different routes. I really need to work on knocking down some more of my back log of 40K stuff but every time I think about it I just feel discouraged. Considering how little I have played 40k in the last couple of years I figure that is the biggest part of it. I have played the game for so long and love the armies I have built but I have not truly had fun playing the game since 6th edition.
I have also submitted an application to become a Press Ganger for the local community. I enjoyed my time playing Warmachine in the Crossroads League and the fact that even with a 1/5 win loss rate during the League I am still doing better than I am at 40k and while winning has never been terribly important to me I am thinking my 1/90ish win loss rate with 40k may be a factor in working on the models. Anyways hoping to finish the last bits of the models and maybe start on some of the other stuff on my shelf here this week.
