And my first poll as far as I can remember. Anywho, this was basically the great divider back in the 70s. Friendships were ended, and marriages were nulled. Which band was the best. And you can only choose one of these 2 or you dont count
Hey KC, maybe you should change the title of the thread to "Post About What a Badass Non-Conformist You Are" so that half of these posts will be On Topic?

It's not their fault, they want to be included, but are just too young to have heard either band.

Damn, that made me laugh something fierce. Thats about the truth of it though.
And like I said, I really do like both bands, for me, its never really be a pick one over the other, but I just like the feel of Zeppelin a bit more then the Who.
Also I think DAKKA needs a "PUNCH YOUR MOUTH" button or something. You know, for those that just CANNOT follow the most basic of forum rules
While I love Zep, it's The Who for me.
Listen to Quadrophenia, the whole album, in order and you have the greatest rock opera the world has ever known.
Listen to Keith Moon's drums, there is no end to it, it is varied and consistent at the same time.
Listen to John Entwhistle's bass, he is a genius. It took a group of 5-6 musicians to create the complex rhythms he put out after he died.
Listen to Pete Townsend's voice and guitar. Read the lyrics to Quadrophenia that he penned and see if you're not impressed.
Listen to Roger Daltrey's voice, clear cutting notes to screams that are still musical.
Led Zepplin is up there to, and my love for The Who does not mean Zep is any less, I just like the who more. While I own all the albums of both bands, it's The Who cds that are always in my car (this is where I listen to music the most).
Good Question KK, just wish more would put some thought into it and not be haters, but this is Dakka.
I voted Zep, And in response to MadEric, I would suggest a song off of the "How the West Was Won" album put out fairly recently, "Moby Dick" In it, John Bonham basically has a 17 minute long drum solo (the studio version, IIRC was 'only'12-15 minutes or so)
I also thoroughly enjoy the "how the band was formed" story, especially where Bonham is involved.
But for me, the Ultimate Zeppelin song, has to be Achilles Last Stand. I've told my wife to have it played at my funeral should I croak first.
As for The Who, TBH, the only songs of theirs I know is the "Who Song" (used as the theme for CSI), and Pinball Wizard.
I despise The Who. Too jangly and bubble gum pop-ish, plus how many decent songs do they have? four? Pictures of Lily is funny, but not a good song, IMO. Won't get fooled again is a rock staple, and a cool song, but not as legendary as stairway.
Never listened to a bad Led Zepelin song. Well, not from before 1978.
Don't understand Sabbath and Ozzy. Too obnoxious for my tastes. IMO, ozzy has no substance to him. his lyrics are skin deep.
Rolling stones are fantastic. Dislike very little of them. I have to be in a certain mood though.
I had to go with the Who, simply because my best friend in high school made me listen to LZ constantly for months on end. Con-stant-ly. Whenever we were hanging out, whatever we were doing, LZ. At first, it was great. Then, it became annoying. In the end it was maddening. If they'd have made more music since then, I might have different opinion now, but they haven't. My feelings for LZ are much the same as Tom Hanks' for seafood at the end of Castaway.
See it would be hard for me, because Im not really a fan of either of those bands. Sure they both made some decent to good tunes, but personally, I think they are both WAY over hyped
You know, I've really tried hard to like The Stones and The Who...but it just never really stuck with me. I don't think they suck or anything, but just not my bag

That's why I wrote down Genesis because they are better than both. But SOMEBODY got all nerd rage on me...

I fething hate the beatles. I've tried and tried and tried, but I just don't like them at all. I've listened to rubber soul, let it be, SPLHCB and the white album back to front numerous times, but I just can't like them.
Oh lord, more lemmy jock riding. All motorhead songs sound the same, and lemmy is a drunken one trick pony. Never could understand the hype for motorhead.
SilverMK2 wrote:I listen to more Who, so I will go with them even though I like them both.
I love them both, but this song puts The Who over the top IMHO.
I'm going with Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden also....
When KC wakes up from his blood pressure knocking him out, I'm kidding!
Got to be Led Zep for me. Killed way more brain cells listening to them than I did the Who.
The Who are incredible also, but Zep's better, IMHO.
And great song/video MR. Brings backs the early days of MTV for me.
Believe it or not kids, MTV used to actually have music videos.....
Chongara wrote:All rubbish as far as I'm concerned. If can't listen to them on 95.7 WPIG they aren't worth listening to.
Fail (I think?)
TheRobotLol wrote:Neither. Dubstep.
Fail
I think it, KC says it.
Anyway, The Who is obviously superior, because Keith Moon wasn't in Zeppelin.
While I like Keith Moon, John Bohnam was just such a raging drunk....well honestly they where both rather awsome drummers and apparently could survive on booze and drugs alone....hard choice really... I don't think I know where I am going with this one...some where out far far far into OT left field. =o]
No, Pink Floyd would have to be compared to another band. And personally, I dont think thats even possible really. Pink Floyd is that rare band, that even though people talk up SOOooo much, they are still better then the talk. That would be a pretty boring poll

Whos better? Pink Floyd or Pink Floyd?
In the tradition of the people who can't stay on topic in this thread I have to say...
I voted for Led Zeppelin as their tunes are much more meatyer that the Who. Now don't get me wrong the Who can do a good tune but they just couldn't do some thing like this;
Ignor the lyrics and just have the tune and you have the perfect music for big stompy robot showdowns
Holy friggin frack people. This isnt , these 2 bands are the be all of bands, and therefore all others suck balls!!!! Its merely, OF THESE 2 BANDS WHO IS BETTER
Christ, its times like this I understand why the YMDC forum is such a friggin mess.

Your sort of asking the wrong generation on this site, I think the avrage user is abut 15 to 21 years of age. Hell even my generation has problems with this type of question and i was a child of the 80s.
Yea, Bonham was a friggin insane drummer. Seriously, listen to Moby Dick, discussion over.
Ribbon Fox - I dont think the generation really has much to do with it, people who like Rock WILL know who these 2 bands are. The problem is, people cant seem to stay on fething target, its like the whole world has a severe case of ADHD or something

Word. What about 'When the Levee Breaks'? That groove! So heavy.

I'm 29, and I know who Led Zep and the Who are. Because I have taste.
KingCracker wrote:I used to practice playing my bass to their tunes often.
Yeah, same. I used to sit and figure Bonham's parts out and try to play them. There's a few little corkers in there that I can play, like the stuttering bass drum figure in 'Good Times, Bad Times' - it was a bitch to figure out, but once you get the knack of it, it's so simple and clever. It's like a triplet pattern on the hi-hat and bass drum.
Agreed, sometimes it took awhile, but like you said, it always ended up being more simple then I started off thinking it was. The dude was talented thats for sure. Another great band I used to jam my bass to was Clutch. Those bass lines were fun as hell, and ranged from slow mellow, to pretty edgy.
Anywho, back OT, Zeppelin! WOOOHOOO!!!

And yea, when the levee breaks is one of their best. I used to practice playing my bass to their tunes often.
I'm 18. Led Zepplin: Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, John Bonham, Jimmy Page.
The Who: Roger Daltry, Pete Townshend, Keith Moon and John Entwistle.
Can I haz cheezeburger now?
I personally prefer Led Zepplin to The Who. I just prefer their music. As for drummers the only drummer who I think is better than John Bonham is Neil Peart from Rush. That man is something crazy behind the drum kit!

I have an autographed copy of house of 1000 corpses, but Mr Zombie and his wife Sherri moon.

I only like White Zombie. Rob zombie I can definitely go without.
Blarg, The Zombies aren't that great, Rob's voice really only has one tone to it...
Just my opinion, of course. I mean, I like Superbeast and Dragula as much as anyone, but Living Dead Girl, Foxy Foxy, He just can't pull out a voice that works with that sort of musical tone.

I agree with Rob Zombies solo career, and Ill add, I simply cannot stand the guy musically. But WhiteZombie his sound was perfect for their sound. And they made some really good tunes. I dunno why the hell he left that group TBH
