Hi all! I am a first time Dakka poster. A friend of mine suggested that I post my current project log here as you guys have a reputation for being a good responsive community, and I am always looking for feedback, ideas, and criticism!
I am currently working on making a table top legal "counts as" Angry Marine army based on Codex: Blood Angels. I wanted something fun and challenging that will keep my interest and earn me many internets, so Angry Marines seemed to be the way to go! I plan on filling up a force org, and also making some Apoc units. Ultimately, I want to acquire, and convert a FW Reaver titan. (Much to the horror of some, I'm sure. Tee Hee ) I will explain what counts as what as I go, but the troops of the army will be all Death Company marines, & DC dreads
Anyway, the project is already well under way, so my first few posts will be playing catchup as I get photos uploaded. I apologize ahead of time for some of the crappy quality on some of my earlier models.
The squad I started with is a 10 man DC unit, mostly made up of spare bitz and cannibalized Flesh Tearers I gave up on long ago:
^ My first "test" Marine, armed with a plasma pistol. Simple part swapping and a green stuff emblem on the chest.
^Brother Kratos! The swords are ork choppas, and the chains are made by reaper. I GSed him to have a goatee.
^Angry Marine with a GS cigar and a lead pipe from the ork biker kit.
^ My "sgt". He is just for show, on the table he's just a DC marine with a power fist.
^ Angry Marine with a Thunder Wrench (Hammer), and an Armorcast gun flash.
^ AM with a sledge hammer, counts as a standard P/CCWDC marine. Before you ask, yes, it is hammer time. It is ALWAYS hammer time.
^ AM with a power bat. I know this model is old and a bit goofy looking, but he served me well as a Salamander (back when they had initiative 3!) and then as a Flesh Tearer. He earned his place with his years of faithful service!
^ AM with hand flamers. My one friend said this guy is the most boring model in my army. If the most boring guy in my army is dual wielding flame throwers, I must be doing something right!
^ AM bug exterminator. Make a wish!
^ And of course, the famous guardsman CCW.
I'll get more up shortly. In the future, I plan on making one more 10 man squad of foot marines, and one 5 man squad of foot marines. So any ideas or requests anyone has will be much appreciated!
I like it! Reminds me of the really old school space marine art where they had litanies and graffiti written on their armor. The guardsman looks like he's about to be suplexed by a pro wrestler.
Can you legally have someone dual wielding flamers?
Definitely Refreshing to see a sense of humor in space marines.

Thanks! I can't take credit for them though; they are a meme from 4chan. You can check out 1d4chan wiki to get the skinny. As far as the flamers go, you can only have one, I just modeled him with two to increase the overall RAEG.
Sasa0mg wrote:Angry marines ftw, now I feel the need to make a squad xD
LOL, I hope you like painting yellow, cuz I sure don't
@Phyrexia Thanks! I think the "some" you a referring to are known as "heretics" in the professional community
@killykavekommando lol, a reaver is still a LONG way off, but I do have some ideas, and more are always appreciated!
Anyway, this post is about my other troop choices, the Belligerent Engines. Both are counts as Death Company dreads.
^ Some WIP pics. On the right is my old FT dread, on the left is the new Furioso dread.
^Brother Ignus, armed with two DCCW, melta gun, storm bolter, and rocket fist (magna grapple).
^Brother Caede, armed with twin Industrial Heresy Renderers (blood talons), a heavy flamer, melta gun, and magna grapple.
That's it for my standard Belligerent Engines, the rest of my troop slots will be filled with DC squads (which means I have a Astaroth "counts as" in the works as well ) Although I do have a contemptor in the works, and plans to make a Black Engine based around a flying librarian dread. /sigh so much to do.
Moltar wrote:Absolutely amazing! This made my day.
Glad you enjoyed him!
The first problem I ran into, from a force flavor/organization standpoint, was how to make the rest of my non-death company units as FETHING FURIOUS as my "standard" marines. The answer is sanguinary priests, lots of them. FNP and Furious Charge for all! Here's where the magic happens:
I made this guy with the intention of him being the first part of my FANCY ERS squad (honor guard), but I could just as easily run him with my Black Brothers (Sanguinary Guard). In the end, I will need 4 more, 2 terminator and 2 jump pack. Ideas? Requests?
And I present the high librarian of the Angry Marines, the man himself: Moarfistin, The Extremely Cross!
Armed with unshakable faith in the Emprah, a healthy diet rich in fiber, and the terrifying "Fisting Stick", this proctologist turned post-human psychopath travels the stars making sure that the enemies of the Imperium meet the most horrifying end possible.
I created Moarfistin out of my bitz box to be my "counts as" Mephiston, Lord of Death. Since then, 4chan has added him as an official part of Angry Marines canon. He's officially part of an unofficial chapter of space dudes in a made up universe! Go me! To read more about him (nsfw), check out the 1d4chan wiki.
I'm not sure how dakka feels about "the bird", so I am going to censor it out of my pics going forward, unless a mod tells me differently. I tried to get an official policy from a mod on warseer, and never got a straight answer. Seriously, what is this world coming to?
Wow that dread mod looks nice, the copter bits look ace!
I really like the customizing you have going on for stuff, I'm pretty mod-shy when it comes to my grey knights, I'm definitely going to have to change that with the angry marines you've inspired me to do myself!
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Man oh man... did this make me laugh. Subbed sir. Keep up the hilarious work!

Even if there is only 5 thus far xD
Thanks! My goal when starting this project was to make sure that every model was it's own conversion project...it can be rough, but I'm still going!
Here is my first Black Brother (counts as Sanguinary Guard). An elite Angry Marine that is so upset that he catches on fire.
And....done!
I wanted to go more badass then silly with these guys, I'm pretty happy with the results. This was a lot of work though.....4 more to go :(

It looks good, did you sculpt all that or is there a kit somewhere that you can get for that stuff? I love the fire from the axe, that looks perfect.
Thanks! Legion of the Damned got nothing on him! I'll explain everything after the quotes below.

Lint wrote:I'm pretty sure most of it comes from here.
I was just about to commend you on the use of the muzzle flashes and then you blow me away with the Black Brother. That guy is awesome
Thanks! You are mostly right with the flashes, but there was a little more too it because I didn't like their jet plumes, explained below...
Thanks for all the compliments, everyone! I feed on your approval! And then crap out more converted minis!
As far as the "hows" of the Black Brother's fire effects, the axe was made using a regular sanguinary guard axe, and the flaming bit of this thing's arm:
Little bit of chopping, and a little bit of GS, and they became one. The jump pack fire was made using (as Lint pointed out) armorcast muzzle flashes, small and heavy respectively. I didn't like the armorcast jet plumes, so I decided to do some experimenting with gorilla glue. This was my first test result:
Since the experiment was a success, I bought the heavy flashes and combined the two ideas. I basically put a a small pile of hobby refuse at the end of the heavy flash and poured on some glue. (I did this all on an old mtg card with the thought of cutting it out afterwards, but I was able to just peel it off) I also put down some some seperate "beads" of glue. Once everything expanded and dried, I glued the beads to the main pile and gave it another pouring over...and so on and so forth. I then painted elmer's glue over the finished product to help fill in and bubbles. It was very time consuming, but the end effect was worth it I think.
I'm going to try and get some step by step picture tutorials up when I do the rest of the squad.
This is great stuff I love it when something different comes along. Your conversions are 10/10.
I will stand tall and protect your right to write whatever you want on your marines, but I have to ask if you really need them? If you have to censor your pics then maybe you have gone a bit over the top. But hey; thats just my 2c. Ignore at will
Or maybe you could rename your army to 'Rude Marines'?
I feel that if we can have models with nipples and genetalia, we can have a Marine with the F-bomb. I'm just throwing that out there. Certainly, the foul language is a necessity for the Angry Marines... there is no other way.

Good job on building your own style. Keep it up
edit: forgot to say: the hacksaw is my favorite!
Glad you like them! I didn't invent them, though. They are an established internet thing. The foul language is an absolute must.

Ok, it seems there is some confusion. I just want to get it out there that I did not create the Angry Marines, although I have contributed to them at times. The Angry Marines were created by the gaming section of 4chan as a humorous means to express high levels of nerd rage at things that suck, or are perceived to suck. These things include but are certainly not limited to Matt Ward, anthromorphic crossover marysueing, rules perceived as crap, Ultramarines, and really anything else that might irk a 40k gamer(real or imagined). Seeing as they are also Space Marines, they also hate all the things a regular Space Marine would hate. (xenos, heresy, etc).
"In Universe" the Angry Marines are rumored to be the 11th legion. They are beings of such complete rage, such total indignant disdain, that they almost never speak in anything less than a glass shattering bellow. They specialize in close combat. They also specialize in the most imaginatively foul and creative cursing known to the Imperium. Think a Khorne Berserker with the loyalties of a Black Templar, the maturity of your average forum troll, stuck in a Death Company marine's body. Now give him Tourettes, and then testosterone supplements. Paint him yellow and red, and give him the biggest wrench you can find. Run.
Anywho, I am currently preparing for a 1000 pt tourney, so I am forcing myself to finish what I intend to run before working on anything else. My list is:
That last pic of the whole Stormraven with the front ramp open makes me think of the nose art on old bomber/fighter planes, with the teeth and ANGRY EYES. This thing totally needs nose art. Even the machine spirit of the Angry Marines' Storm Raven is ANGRY!
Really love the conversions, very inspiring. I'm not sure I could bring myself to do a whole angry marines army xD given I plan on GW usage. Your doing a blood angels list as angry marines I take it? xd The thought had crossed my mind but alas I think bar-it one small'ish deployment of angry marines of my own as something fun I think I will be reproducing this inspiration to customize on regular blood angels xd

I actually tried this before I started putting paint on, there is too much "going on" on the front of SR to get it to look right. Which really is a tragedy The main hull is actually going to be rather stock, it's the Marines riding it that will make it more ridiculous

Thanks! Yup, blood angels all the way here. You could always have just an extra squad of DC be angry, and replace f bombs with tamer versions, such as frak.

I request angry marine bikers, bikers are always moar angry.
I am really looking forward to it! As far as bikers, I was going to make them Angry, but I couldn't come up with any good inspiration to really make them unique (other then the usual add wrench/nailbat & call it a day, which is fine, don't get me wrong). But then, THEN, inspiration hit me! The Angry Marines might have some unexpected allies, that would make great bike units:
It could be epic. I still probably will make an attack bike squad Angry, we shall see.
Anywho, elsewhere on the internet someone had an idea regarding my Storm Raven. They said unto me: "instead of a turret, make it a terminator riding on top, smoking a cigar, and dual wielding assault cannons". To which I replied . and immediately started rummaging in my bitz box. AND SO IT WAS DONE:
The cigar needs some work on positioning, but so far the mock up is looking good.

Link is broken couldn't see, is it lazy marines? Other than that I would probably say a lot of chains, large ones. just get some jewelery chains is one idea. would be a lot more angrier than a speeder.

That's so much better than the crappy turret up there. However his face is not angry enough. Also I would strap him in there in a haphazard way if I were you. You could try making faces ANGRY by greenstuffing the forked eyebrows a bit... just make them thicker and into a fork. It helps to look at pictures of angry.
...... now that that is out of my system.. wait, nope there's more, hang on.....
BRWAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking epic so far. Subscribed!
Idea for the Stormraven....... Angry Marines don't like to wait to get into combat... they get very angry having to wait inside of a Thunderhawk (or in this case a Stormraven)... sometimes, they rip themselves out of the transport even while it's still flying so they can dive right into combat and more raeg..... >_>

So far I have one setup as a assault marine sergeant but he will eventually get his own equally as angry squad check my blog if you wanna see xD totally using you for inspiration!
Hmm, yeah, I see what you mean about the nose of the Storm Raven being too busy. Which is a shame. :( But the dual-wielding assault cannon terminator is total win!
I kind of wonder if you could attach chainswords to the assault cannons like a horrible bayonet. ¬_¬ Or replace the bar underneath the barrels with a chainsword. 'Cause we all know he's not just gonna shoot people with those things, he's going to BEAT PEOPLE WITH THEM. ANGRILY.

Hehehe, glad you like it! And augh, chain axes never occurred to me. That's pretty damn ANGRY all right!
The flying guppy is looking mighty fine! Loving the surfing terminator attached with the chain, hehe. Looks like he'd totally get catapulted off once the Storm Raven hit the brakes - or rammed into something. And whatever they hit would have a VERY BAD DAY.

Thanks! I may do some diorama type things as inspiration hits, such as the "WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW!?!" scene, but for now I'm mostly focusing on the army itself. There will, however, be a Temperus Maximus conversion. I already have my bitz recipe for him, it's just a matter of time. The problem with him is that he isn't official, and he really can't "counts as" anything, so the stuff I can actually use on a consistent basis takes priority. Also I plan on parting out some forgeworld stuff to make him, so it won't be cheap...
Anyway, Stormraven is finished, but I rushed the pics and they are all terrible. YEAH THAT'S RIGHT!! BOO HOO, DEAL WITH IT F**KERS!!! I'm going to have to retake them tomorrow, hopefully some natural light will help. I will leave you with this cinder block as a teaser, however:
That, sir, is ONE ANGRY GUPPY. I absolutely love the assault marines hanging off the wings, and the dude with the cinder block. XD And the chain axe bayonets turned out absolutely amazing! The weathering on the Bird is very nicely done, too.
In the words of the enigmatic artistic genius, Dali, " that's f**k'n sweet dude."
My only suggestion would be to stuff a giant bomb or crates of tnt in the cargo hold. You know, for when the pilot eventually gets tired of those "f**k'n queer crack diggers they call gunners" to actually hit something, so the pilot rams the Gunship.
Besides, everyone knows angry marines ride on the outside of there transports so they can assault faster.
awesome modelling. I like both the assault marines holding the wing up and the one digging in w/his chainsword to hang on. The pilot flipping the bird is a nice touch.
The **** train has no brakes.
This is why I'm not a full on angry marine fan. Somehow homophobic college 'bro' speech became part of the angry marine mystique. Its weird and doesn't fit. The 'F mercy and 2x F respite' is more in keeping with the core idea, I think. That said, it made me giggle, so I guess I'm a bad person by my own definition.
You should write on the contemptor "The Sh1t is about to hit the fan!" and have it roundhouse kicking some Eldar or a Tyranid warrior.
I love this army. It's a combination of awesome idea and epic painting.
The bird is outstanding, and the cinder block? Genius.
Question though: How are you able to tourney with all of the R rated language present? Is your flgs just that cool, or is it more of a tourney amongst friends?
Lint wrote: How are you able to tourney with all of the R rated language present? Is your flgs just that cool, or is it more of a tourney amongst friends?
Actually, I was wondering something similar. Though, think you could record some of the reactions if they are allowed? You know, for posterity and all that. That said...
I just love it when someone puts all those little details on their stuff, it really shows how much work they dedicated to it. In fact, I hadn't noticed the pilot flipping the bird until someone else pointed it out. My favorite has to be the "F mercy double F respite" banner. NOW GET UP OFF YOUR FAT, C**-ENCRUSTED A** AND GET THE F*** BACK TO WORK, OR TOMORROW YOU GET TO PLAY PIN THE TAU ON THE CARNIFEX!!
Say... maybe that's what you should do! Keep up the good work!
Lint wrote:Not quite. I can post pictures on Dakka of a Slaanesh army, but swear words?
Thanks for trying though.
I think Dakka has the rule for swearing simply because this is the internet, and having that rule in place allows someone to step in if a flame war gets out of hand.
Let's be honest, you can model gore and blood and nudity... all things that would get you an M rating on a video-game, but you can't drop the F bomb.
But that's the rules of the site and I'm cool with that.
He'll just have to show up at the Tourney and see if everyone else gets as much of a laugh out of it as we do, or maybe bring lots of black masking tape.
In regards to my upcoming tourny, it isn't GW official, it's a local club thing. We are expecting like 80+ people to attend, however. I talked to the club leader and organizer last year about possibly running the Angry Marines, and he said that it would be fine as long as I don't "draw and model genitalia all over your models", heh. That being said I will probably bring some masking tape with me, just in case.
In regards to swearing itself: I, obviously, think it is fine. If I take a step back and really look at the situation, I think the censorship of "naughty" words is one of the silliest, most illogical, and immature things our culture does. I mean, most swear words have "clean" versions that mean the exact same thing and are used by children as soon as they know how to speak. (I am speaking only of the words that don't directly refer to something degenerate or bigoted, of course) The words that don't have a direct synonyms, such as the F bomb, are so versatile that they don't even HAVE a set meaning (it's really just fun to say). Ironically, they only reason swear words exist at all is because they are censored. If we stopped censoring them, they would either go away, or we would have to come up with new ones. This means that (Even MORE ironically) the people who enjoy and laugh at excessively coarse language actually DEPEND on those who are offended/censoring it for continued entertainment. So basically, we need to keep a certain level of censorship, otherwise things just won't be shocking and funny anymore; and THAT would be tragic. Also, it's just common courtesy to respect those who don't like it, and don't find it funny. Kind of like turning off a type of music you know someone isn't fond of when they are coming over. The rubbish "protect the children" justification is something I can never get behind, though (but let's keep that discussion out of the project log forums, lol)
Phew, anyway, I want to thank everyone for remaining mature about this subject. And I really appreciate that the folks who may not appreciate the language on my models who could still find merit from a hobbying perspective. With that out of they way, let's talk about projects! (this is a project log thread after all )
We are now completely up to date with my Angry Marine progress, which means updates may not be as frequent. That being said, I plan on also posting some of my other armies (Dark Eldar, Orks, Chaos, and commissions) to help flesh things out seeing as I don't work on them often enough to warrant their own plog. I am also currently planning on a conversion project to make some Pre-Heresy Custodes and Custodes terminators which should be super fun, if a ways off. Also, if anyone would like me to do a commission project for them, let me know, we can probably work something out!

Next up...Land Speeder!
STAY ANGRY!!!!!!!!
Makes sense. I personally don't have any problems with swearing, and there is nothing to protect the poor, poor children from since they know all those words anyway (and use them frequently becaue they are "forbidden" and "bad", wich makes using them fun.
Oh and you mentioned that you own an Ork army? PICS!
optimusprime14 wrote:One the cattle prod part that sticks out, you should turn that into a big middle finger
Unfortunately, I already had to put the assault cannon there, because of how the dozer blade fits on :( But I may use your idea for missile pods when I get around to making a typhoon.

It shall be done! I have seen the 'dex, it's pretty good stuff, but could use an overhaul. I'm tossing around the idea of writing my own...
MrMerlin wrote:Oh and you mentioned that you own an Ork army? PICS!
My ork army is a bit of a sob story, I had 3k pointz of kustom orks, and someone broke into my car and stole them :( This was like 3 years ago, and I have been very slowly rebuilding. But anyway, ask and you shall receive! (although they aren't as good as yours) Here's what I got painted up so far for my freebootaz, Da' 'Azardskullz:
My warboss, 'AzardSkull Gitstompa. Minor conversions here. This FW model was actually the reason I started building up my orks again!
My FW trukk, my basic color scheme is not red, but I wanted this to have a red paint job, so....
A really bad shot of my trukk boyz. Again, I only gave them red bitz to differentiate them from other masses of boyz.
Really nice paint job on that warboss bikerz, like the trukk as well, red paint job? My warboss is sure that orange is red, so I did my army in that color eheh
Although I wish to build an angry marines army, I have contented myself with Blood Angels, the next most angry chapter. I love this stormraven. I am going to take this into account when building the rest of my own stormraven.

Anyway, progress has been made!
I wanted to fill the gap with some other stuff I need to take pictures of, but there has been no sunshine.. Maybe next week.
Lol, these angry marines are great, reminds me of the orks in 2nd ed when they were pure fun. The breezeblock on a chain is genius, 40k needs more breezeblocks!
Love the orks vehicles, the biker boss is pure win.
This is all so great. You know its a good army when parts have to be censored .
The only think I don't like is the cinderblock on the bird, or not the block per se, but the way it hangs straight down. It just kind of destroys the dynamic you got in there with the marines holding on.

Yeah, I couldn't think of a good way around it that wouldn't break as soon as I looked at it too hard... oh well, at least this way there is a better chance of collateral damage to my enemy

Btw, I had to do repair work on a commission, so I figured I would get some pics of it before giving it back:
I consider the base to be a failed experiment, but the owner likes it, so <shrug>. I never was any good with basing.
Also! I got better a cleaning up my pictures, as you may have noticed, so I'll probably be re-photoing everything...
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:I thought the base was a cool idea wit the scorched areas where he was standing. Your choice of flocking was meh though.
Not too shabby looking though. That Avatar is a cool model.
Thanks! You are completely right about the flock, "meh" is just about a perfect description, LOL.
Anyway, I have some house renovations going on that has caused my painting/hobby area to get packed up and moved, so I haven't made any progress yet.. I did, however, manage to get some better pics of some of my stuff, which I will throw up as filler:
This is my "scratchbuilt" Klaivex, Calia. Made her out of spare bitz shortly after the new 'dex came out. She is still one of my favorite conversions. I will typically run her as Drahz.
Love the Angry Marines army, to the point that ( in my boredom and searching for a new project...) I've decided to start my own Angry Marines force.
However, I'm not familiar with marines overall, just know a few generalities.
You're using them as Counts-As Death Company right?
Is this simply due to low model count, or is it because they seem to mesh with the AM ethos best?
Ovion wrote:Love the Angry Marines army, to the point that ( in my boredom and searching for a new project...) I've decided to start my own Angry Marines force.
Sweet! Let me know when you have pics! Feel free to even post them here if you want!
Ovion wrote:However, I'm not familiar with marines overall, just know a few generalities.

Both those reasons, and more, actually. The low model count allows me to make each model unique without being too burned out, and Death Company Marines are basically the fluff equivalent of your standard Angry Marine, and DC Dreads are the same with Belligerent Engines.
You can also give each Death Company Marine his own personal load out, so I can jam as many wacky power weapon variations in a single squad as I like, and not have to worry about making like 4 marine tactical squads w/ veteran sgts to be able to use all my conversions.
I can then use Astaroth to take away my Death Company limits, and add Sanguinary Priests to make EVERYTHING have Feel No Pain and Furious Charge (this means I can have Angry Terminators, and Sanguinary Guard!). Then you can add in silly things like deep striking Land Raiders, monstrous special characters like Mephiston, fast razorbacks, etc.... Blood Angels are perfect! The only downer is their inability to take thunderfire cannons...
Although it is great fun to tool around the battlefield with like 15 super-powered, practically unkillable, madmen, it's not exactly the most consistent or tactical force to field If you want something that can be more competitive (at the expense of some flavor, admittedly), I think a "counts as" space wolf army would fit the bill nicely. If they would make a new black templar codex, it could be even better, heh.
Ohh! I almost forgot! A swell guy named Agrifex on deviantart made this for me:
The flexibilty of using AMs means I could just go with most any marine dex then Tempted by the blood angels though from what you said - I don't really care about winning so much as the fun of it.
Of course, do BAs / DCs get the option to take pods? I like pods. And have ideas of what to do with them for angry marines.

Basically, yeah. The limit is how creative you get with interpreting the rules to suit your conversions; so the hardest, I think, would be vanilla marines, they're too "boltery" in my mind.
DA and DC can certainly have pods. My dreads are going to have standard pods (I just have to figure out how to attach dozer blades ). My Marine squad is going to have a rhino, that counts as a drop pod .
BTW, does anyone know: when disembarking from a pod, is deployment the normal 2in from the base hull, or the extended ramps? I need to know this for converting purposes...
My plan for pods are the following: (Some of these will be plaster-of-paris or something, several have been inspired / stolen from other peoples ideas.) 1: Dreadnought Splat. - Make a cast of the front of a dreadnought. Around the cast make a crater impact, when deployed place the crater with the dread in it on the field, to deploy remove dread from imprint and stand it in / next to. I intend to have a dreadnought storm bolter of missile launcher 'left' in the crater to be the pod weapon.
3: Cast my fist up. Place rocket engine in wrist. Have the middle finger fold out as the door.
4: Have at least 2-3 actual pods, cos pods are awesome.
5: maybe another crater one, but a mix of face first / face down / face up / standing marines in a mini-crater thing...
6: model a ship-munition missile or massive shell, have them holding on to that (magnets!) riding it down.
My primary issue is this though: Fuklaw. Fuklaw is awesome, I want to make him, I want to use him - question is: As what - I bow to those who know marines to point me in the right direction
I'm going to be starting simple though - Converting my AOBR marines to AMs, and aqquiring + converting fuklaw. Timescale - unknown.
Quick Post! I finished my speeder in time for the tourny!
I ended up going 2-2, but I'll get a proper post on that up later. If you can't wait, well, talk to the complaint dept!
As far as Fuklaw, I was planning on making him the tank commander of my old FW Baneblade. As far as drop pods...I have my own idea for one that parts have already been purchased for, but I am always open for ideas for future projects
Moltar wrote:Complaint Dept. is hilarious. For drop pods, I've always pictured Angry Marines falling from the sky in giant fist-shaped drop pods. Just a thought.
Thanks for the feedback! I agree about the plow, I'll have to go back and give it some more punishment. It was 1:30 am, I had a tourny to leave for at 8 am, I ran out of give-a- .
As far as the pods, I love the ideas. If I could just figure out how the to pull some of them off, I'd get started right away, lol.
Anyway, here's some pics of my Dark Eldar, as I hope to give them some more love soon:
My warriors. This was the first unit I painted. I had finally settled on a scheme and was trying different stuff out. Some of the highlighting is terrible on these, but getting more stuff tabletop ready take precedence over fixing them. I used an OOP sybarite for sentimental reasons (from my old codex DE army) and to generate extra bitz for my klaivex. My Kabal is the "Kabal of the Empty Sun", hence the empty sun banner.
Wyches, same deal as the warriors. Some minor conversions using corsair weapons. Although I recognize the better quality of the models, I really wish they had stuck with the old wych "style". I just couldn't get my heart into painting these guys, and I think it shows. Also some bad sprue planning by GW left a bunch of the shoulder pads defective, and I haven't gotten around to GSing the chips out yet. I plan on updating my old wyches with modern weapons and spikes, as squad #2, should be a hoot.
The Angry Marines are fantastic, love them to bits, especially the flyer with the chunk of concrete! The Dark Eldar... well it's hard to tell. The photos are a bit too dark to make out details and a bit out of focus on the larger image. They look pretty good anyway and the bases look excellent, I love how you managed to get a grassy field look without it coming across as unrealistic or "Sound of Music" rolling hills. Using the two differently coloured static grasses like that is very convincing.

Appreciate the input! My scheme is turning out to be difficult to photograph, it's more vibrant irl, but still very dark. My trueborn pics (below) show this better.

like this?
But with your raeg expertise
Heh, I like the idea, and I forgot how much I love that model, but Fuklaw is just a commissar. I might use that model as a base for Bruisiarch Mofo, though.
Anyway, here are my trueborn, they are mainly kitbashes of warrior bitz and Dark Elf corsairs. As stated before, they show my color scheme a little better than the warrior pics:
CC dudes, or "the first to die". Made from corsairs and old/new DE bitz.
Standard Bearer with a blaster converted out of a disintigrator. The standard is just a place holder for now, I'm keeping the concept, but will ave to repaint it.
My other special weapon dudes. The new Splinter Cannons have too much "eldar" and not enough "dark" for my tastes, so I used the OOP ones for these guys. Again, the blasters are made from raider disintigrators (saved me a bunch of bit money!)
My dracon, really happy with how she turned out. She's actually made from one of the raider passengers.
I need everyone's help, I'm going to start my next thing, but I have so many things, I don't know where to start. Halp?
Here's what i have lined up:
- Contemptor
- Bruisiarch
- Archon (about half done already, one of the coolest conversions I have done to date imho)
- Assault Terminators
- Land Raider Redeemer
- Razorwing
- Scratchbuild a Biker Painboy
Also, regardless as to whether I work on them next, I'm still looking for ideas on the Contemptor, Redeemer and Assault Termies. The Assault sgt is already locked in, he shall have pre-heresy style armor (all the rage with the kids these days) and an Adamantine Sack of Power Doorknobs and a Storm Door, the rest of the squad shall have lightning claws (which is boring and why I need ideas).
I've also given more thought to bikes. Although people seem to like my lazy marine idea, the lack of Angry bikers seems to cause sadness. SO, I have decided, in my infinite benevolence, that I shall have a regular biker squad w/ an attack bike that are ANGRY, and that I will make an attack bike only squad that shall be lazy!
I would say this order:
Archon > Razorwing > Bruisiarch > Contemptor > Redeemer > Painboy / Termis.
Because you've half-done the Archon, that should be first, the Razorwing next simply because it's a gorgeous model.
Followed by the Brusiarch because that'll be fun.
This gives you time to figure out what to do with the contemptor, redeemer and assault marines.

Thanks! That could be done pretty easily, actually. I've noticed that if you remove the claws from lightning claws, they kinda look like industrial brass knuckles... OK! That's one terminator figured out!
Ok then, Archon gets 100% of the votes! Here's some really crappy WIP pics:
There's his pieces...
I assembled him for a game a while back and snapped this picture before breaking him down for further painting.
As so can see, he is already 1/2 way painted, so I hope to have him done within a week.

Well, if I stick to the plan, razorwing is next. But I've already decided I don't feel like painting it yet. Feeling uninspired with scheme ideas. Which means I'll probably backslide into my normal habit of working on 15 things at once.
My Bruisiarch is another half finished character; perhaps I shall finish him off and then re-evaluate.

Hrm, I will look into this. My only concern is that it will make him look too much like a black brother. I will see if I can mock some stuff up w/ sticky tack and see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback!!
Dr. Temujin wrote:Where did you find the guitar? It looks absolutely radical and awesome.
A suggestion: Brusiarch needs a cigar as well.
Thanks! The guitar is made of a dark angel vehicle emblem, the neck is a chainsword, and the head is another DA bit of some sort. The strings are just pins I cut up and the flat part that hides the string attachment is a bit of plasticard. Unfortunately, he doesn't smoke; it's bad for his singing voice.
Obsidian Raven wrote:I seriously cant wait to see what you do with this
Spoiler:
F**K YEAH!!! I've already got some ideas... Unfortunately, it's only usable with Codex: Smurfs, so since I use BA I can't really use it legally, so it might be a bit down the priority list... ALTHOUGH!! I have been hearing rumors about allies in 6th ed. If this is true, it could be like the second coming for "Counts As" army builders! Storm Talons for all!
So I have not gotten any more painting done on the Bruisiarch, because I felt like modeling instead of painting, and my attention span in tiny. BUT, I did start a new project. Here's the inspiration art:
So, my plan is to make a squad of powerfeet marines and make them a "counts as" honor guard squad. They shall be equipped with dual power fists and jump packs to represent power feet. Although...I might run them with the chapter banner and one power fist each, to save points. OR I COULD DO BOTH. The apoth will just be the guy I already converted, I figure SOMEONE in the squad should strike at initiative.
I got a good deal on a trade for these guys. The sgt will actually end up as a termi sgt, the other 4 shall be turned into power feet
Here they are cleaned up.
I decided that the feet needed more thickness. These need more work, I was just trying to add bulk. I will attack them with a dremel and knife later on. I am also going to beef up the shin armor..
Don't do it at the shins, do it above the knees. If you can, bulk out the shins and the feet so it looks like they may have their normal power armour on under the power feet
I'd say use the Terminator lower legs, with the upper legs and crotch of normal Marines. And make sure there are plenty of pistons, and spikes on the bottom of the feet.
I've just run through your whole thread and I think you've done some great stuff. Definately unique and original
the only boundary you haven't tamed yet seems to be addind LEDs to things. Any angry vehicles left in the stable that need fairy lights (or rave strobes)?
Chowderhead wrote:What you could do is cut the Terminator legs off at the shins and pop them onto normal SM Legs.
Those would look a lot like Power Feet. You know, for kicking those feths in the balls.
Good thought, although after looking at them side by side, termi legs weren't that much bigger than regular power armor. :(
optimusprime14 wrote:Don't do it at the shins, do it above the knees. If you can, bulk out the shins and the feet so it looks like they may have their normal power armour on under the power feet
As above, it turns out the size difference really doesn't warrant all the work chopping them apart/GSing them back together. I did start bulking things out though, see below and let me know what you think.
Necronboy wrote:POWER FEET ARE FOR KICKING THOSE F***s IN THE BALLS!

Spikes on the bottom of the feet! Good idea! I dunno if I can work it into this project, but the idea of an assault marine making a dynamic entry with huge spiked boots is too good to pass up!
Flinty wrote:I've just run through your whole thread and I think you've done some great stuff. Definately unique and original

Hrm, that is something I have never really tried out. Depending on how the new Chaos codex works out, I might have to make some slaaneshi tanks with lights and working sound
Red Corsair wrote:OMG, this is epic win!

So, turns out termi legs aren't big enough on their own, so I started beefing them up. I also started to clean up the extended feet. They needs a lot more work, and some rivets, I think.
I agree with the rivets, it would make a nice addition. You could do it one of 2 ways: 1st) rivet the out edge like they were bolted on, or use the riviets like the MKVI amour shoulder pad and do the whole thing.

Hrm, I was just going to rivet the feet, but you might be onto something there... I don't want to do MKVI on all of them...that's giving up a lot of prime writing space. But I think a few could be pretty great... Thanks!
Anyway, here's what I got done:
I will go back and rivet the shins up a bit. Also going to GS up some angry emblems for the chests... And I have a SPECIAL plan for the Sgt's wolf skin cloak. Stay tuned!
What it needs is rockets on the feet with the nozzles pointing upwards, or possibly upwards facing jets on the jump pack to increase descent speed for MAXIMUM STOMPAGE!!!!!
This thread is the best thing I have read all week. I have been wanting to do an Angry Marine army since I first heard of them and read the fluff. I can't justify (financially and scheduling) another major project for at least a couple years, but when I finally do... my gaming friends have already been warned.

LOL, that's a pretty great mental image! I think it would make a better drawing/diorama than field-able model, though.

I started our just doing one/two marines at a time, and even then it was so on and off that it took weeks for a single dude to go from a pile of bitz to a complete marine. I planned on continuing like that, but after the first squad was done, it just kinda took off lol. I WILL BE F**KING EAGERLY AWAITING YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CHAPTER, YOU LAZY ****!
Here's my power feet progress:
Added some rivets to the legs, and replaced his hand flamer with a regular flamer, checked the 'dex and it is cheaper that way.
Added rivets and a chest emblem.
As requested: PRE HERESY POWER FEET!!!
The Sgt, added rivets, emblem and cigar
and his cloak....
I also prepped everyone to receive the power feet cabling:
Just a reminder, folks, that the forum rules still apply to Angry Marine threads. Circumventing the language filter, including by adding asterisks or other characters in place of actual letters, is against the rules, even when you think it's 'in character' or amusing.
Please keep that in mind when posting comments from here on in.
You need to take the spiked half round chaos vehicle accessories and glue them together to make an Angry Marine master crafted power Hilary hoop. It has skulls already on the spikes and he can be in charge of keeping the angry marines in fighting (or other f word) shape. Give him a Richard Simmons Afro for the win.

Aye, I shall keep that in mind. Since you're here, what about the finger? Should I continue to black it out? While lurking, I've seen other users displaying pictures with the finger; I don't want to call anyone out or start anything, but if I don't need to edit some of my modeling out of my photos, all the better.

THAT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY HERESY. ...but it does give me an idea for a pretty marine conversion!

their angrier than ever though id like to see it with some literal IG meatshields. as in IG strapped to fences
Obviously, the Rage change is completely sweet. Unfortunately, Furious Charge and Feel No Pain have been a bit nerfed. Overall I think the rules are great, though!
Although! Allies! This opens many doors! I can now take Lord Commissar Fuklaw...and a squad of conscripts as an Angry Mob (Why bother ing around and making your aspirants stand out in the snow or go on sissy camping trips?? Stuff some geneseed in those s and get them to killing!!), and maybe even a squadron of Angry Leman Russes?
Anyway, more on that later. BRUISIARCH PUGNACIOUS IS COMPLETE!!
Penal Legionnaires would be an ideal ruleset for Angry Aspirants, as they are troops, fairly cheap compared to a platoon, and have a bunch of angry rules to roll for at the beginning of the game. Maybe not the most competitive option, but certainly fun.
Dr. Temujin wrote:Angry and bad-ass as ever! The guitar really makes the guy stand out. Does it count for anything in-game?

^I got these awesome Maxmini jump packs in the mail. I'm planning on using them for my honor guard squad.
^ Annnnd I immediately glued one on something. This is an old Games Day marine that I am re-purposing. I lost his head so I snagged one from a BA kit. The wrench is still in progress.
^Another GD figure. Going to be the leader of my assault DC unit. His other arm was scavenged from the termie kit. the middle fingers were also scavenged from a termie fist. This is still a bit in progress as well.
^ I was feeling orky, so I bashed up a cybork dok for my flashgitz. The idea of a giant ork scalpel tickles me.

I'LL ING GET TOIT WHEN I DAMN WELL ING GET TOIT. The main problem is that a Vindicator costs like $40ish, and then each whirlwind launcher is gonna run like $15-20 a pop through bitz dealers, and I will need 4.... It'll happen, just not quite yet.
After assembling drop pods, every marine is an angry marine. So much hate for those things. If I have to put together another of them, I think I'll replace one of the chapter markings on the door with an angry marine symbol just to show the world how much they piss me off.

HAHA, JOKE'S ON YOU, FACE. THESE STUPID THINGS ARE GOING TO BE BORING AS !!
Seriously, though, my pods are being finished out of necessity, rather than any sort of inspiration (which I hate doing). They will have writing, and the chapter symbols will be converted, but nothing else major for now. I have an idea for having an incinerated 'zerker chained to the side of the pod, but I also need a few 'zerkers for another project (spoiler: angry bikers!) that is a bit down the road, so it can wait for now. So for now I am basically keeping them plain because:
1) no inspiration(that is easily accomplished)
2) I think it is a cool model and would like to have one that is relatively "virgin"
3) Keeping them plain lets me easily add stuff down the line as I get bitz and ideas
Keep in mind that these pods are just for my belligerent engines, there will be other pods, and they will be far more interesting! SO UNTIL THEN, BOO HOO, ING DEAL WITH IT YOU S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha in seriousness though just came as a bit of a surprise, after the love that went into the powerfeet seeing them assembled like that tuck the wind out a little i guess Could chain on guys to the outside, or if you didnt need them WYSIWYG for friendlies (or magnetism) replace the inside stormbolter with an angry marine launcher?
I like the idea of a marine riding it down from orbit, you could have a lot of fun with that.
Magnetize the weapon arm for options. For a locator beacon he could have a flag saying "Land here you ignorant <beeps>" or something along those lines.
The other hand could be holding on to a chain. Or a guitar, whatever.

HAVE ANOTHER ORK:
This is something I did years ago after getting my hands on the GD Orc WarBoss. He needed a bit of a paint upgrade, but that's it (which is why I didn't bother posting any WIP pics). He had a matching ammo runt, but that was in with all the stuff that got stolen. :( Depending on points, on the battlefield he is either just another FlashGit or Kaptain Badrukk.
AND BEFORE YOU ALL STARTING WHINING AND ING, I MADE SOME PROGRESS ON THE MAHREENS:
Which brings me to my paint review. I picked up a few of the new Citadel Paints, and here's what I thought:
Averland Sunset (Yellow Base): I was pleasantly surprised, the stuff covers like nobody's business. Highly recommended!
Yriel Yellow (Yellow Layer): Basically a redo of "golden yellow" with a slightly different shade, but for all intents and purposes it is the same. I am ok with this.
Leadbelcher (Gunmetal Base): Got this to replace my dwindling supplies of Boltgun Metal. It's terrible. It's so watery it won't cover anything worth a damn, which is really awful for something advertised as a "Base" coat. Maybe it's just the pot I got...anyone else have experiences with it? Should I pick up another?
The led belcher base is like that i think, iv found closing it and giving the pot a shake sorts it out. Saved me the hassle of putting up with the manager again anyway
the replacement for Tin Bitz (warplock bronze i think?) is hideous. super thin and no matter how much i seem to shake it it still remains lousy. Ill stick with Vallejo's metallic Tinny Tin.
Ghenna's Gold is awesome though. I think the color is even better than the old paint.
Then I think I have the Chainmail replacement Iron Breaker. Its Ok. nothing really to write home about
MESSAGE TOGW, MAKE A MOTHER ING ANGRY ASS MARINES CODEX! AND IF YOU ING DON'T, ILL SHOVE ROBIN CRUDDACE'S PREVIOUS MOTHER ING ING CODEXES, UP YOUR ING CRUSTY COVERED HOLES!

keltikhoa wrote: Looking good. cant blame you on the yellow. did you use the warplock bronze on your DE? What was your impression of the quality?
Thanks! I actually still have half a pot of Tin Bitz left, and since most of my DE vehicles are already based in it, I should be able to milk it for a while. I'll be sure to post my thoughts when I do end up picking up a pot, though. On a side note, I shook the everliving crap out of the leadbelcher, and it seemed ok. Still not as good as boltgun, but usable.
Nice going on the Dark Eldar jet (forgot what it was called). It has that really ancient look to it, as if it's been flying and fighting for at least a few hundred years. How did you manage?

Yeah, I was going for the whole "faded glory" look. Archon Dra'hain is a gloomy, melodramatic bastard after all. Here's how I did it: Primer black > base coat in Tin Bitz > dry brush Dwarven Bronze along the edges, seams, and erratically on raised surfaces > a hearty wash of black ink > a hearty coat of matt brush-on clear coat (it really seems to add depth). Also...
TRY PULLING YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR HERETICAL IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE RAGE, BREATH!

Brilliant! Thanks! It works like a charm!
Finished my commission:
This is my first time trying one of those home made snow recipes; worked pretty well. The pics didn't turn out that well...but meh.
CALM THE DOWN BEFORE I BREAK YOUR LEGS OFF AND CRAM THEM INTO YOUR EYE SOCKETS!! I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!
Seriously though, craps has been going down recently. Expensive dental work, combined with irritating by-the-hour work, combined with a string of unfortunate family functions (seems like the have one EVERY ING TIME I HAVE A DAY OFF) have left me with little hobby time. Also, I am ashamed to admit, the new mtg set has reignited my love of edh... and I tend to obsess about things I am excited about...
ANYWAY, I am currently trying to finish off my raven, and I also have a DnD figure for the campaign that I am in (the previous lass was for another party member). BUT! Never fear! The character is Angry Marine Inspired. Long story short, he is a CG cleric of Temperus, the god of righteous anger. He uses reinforced guantlets to deliver touch spells as hard as possible, and has an intense hatred of lycanthropes, and other were-creatures. Sound familiar? Look forward to it!
Now the important stuff! Although I haven't had time to hobby, I HAVE made significant progress on the 6th edition Angry Marine codex. Not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty awesome, and you should be excited. I ING SAID BE EXCITED!!
I need art, however. New art, from good art people. I make bad drawings, not as terrible as some, but still not good enough for repeated public exposure. So if any of you can help, please let me know, or spread the word to some charitable artsy sorts. The dex is going to have a good amount of work put into it by me and few others, and I want to give the best presentation I can. One of my first ideas was to buy a commission from a "pro" art guy to make at least the 'dex cover, something truly epic that will echo down through the ages blah blah etc, but all my extra money is now in my stupid bleeding mouth, so that idea is shelved. So yeah, hit me up. Even if you just have a really good idea for a unit, character, or mechanic, feel free to message me.
BTW, the holidays are a dark time for me. I will try and be better about photo updates, but things could be hairy for a while, starting nowish. If only people would stop this heretical "holiday season" hoohaa and worship Big E as is proper.

Just wanted to break radio silence. As I feared, things have been hectic, but I do have something for you guys to look at. I have the first drafts of the Angry Marine Codex's Special Rules and Temperus Maximus sections up for review (caution, there may be a bad word or two in there):

Haha no worries we weren't organizing your wake or anything >> haha 40k proposed rule board on here i think its called, where most the fan codex get put for review it seems
I would love to say that all this time has been filled with hobby time and RAEG and whathaveyou, but unfortunately I got a handful of games in and that's about it. I have made a concerted effort to start getting crap done again, so we'll see!
For starters, I threw some more paint on my remaining two C***Knockers. Once they are done I'm thinking I might try to actually finish my Black Brother squad:
In other news, I decided to start a "regular" marine army; one that focuses on shooting (gasp)!. They will be a Iron Hand successor chapter called the Knights Gilded. Essentially, they're a less sulky offshoot that focuses on craftsmanship and acquiring and restoring artifacts and old technology. What I am left with is a chapter that lets me use boinics, fancy knightly bits from DA and BT, AND some sweet pre-heresy stuff from Forge World.
Here's my test model, a Vet Sgt:
And the rest of the Tac squad (WIP):
I'm going for a metallic red & gold scheme. Since all the metallic red paint I've found is utter crap, I've been using a "candying" technique. Basically, I base them in gold and then apply multiple watered down coats of red over top until I get the right shade, then I put some gloss varnish over the red bits. It's a pretty neat effect in person. The bionics I'm using are from Anvil industries: www.anvilindustry.co.uk
Seeing how I want to shoot with this army, I figured some SternGuard would be the way to go. I bought a box, and got some Iron Hands Immortal bodies off of ebay, and set to work. Here's the normal SG:
And the ones made based off the FW torsos:
And I had one immortal torso left, so I turned him into another Vet Sgt for a 2nd Tac squad:
Feedback and suggestions please! Updates might not be a frequent as the olden days, but I'm going to make an effort to not let things sit as long.
