As the title states really.

Oh, and roughly how much is painted?

Ill go first. I have roughly (including doubles/triples) 13000 points of lotr but, regrettable, only around 10% of that is painted (which is poor painting at best)

Now you go!

Well, I usually have a rule that every time I get a box, I HAVE to paint it before expanding.

Only a few of my guys aren't (~10%).

I have a 500 point Moria force (with plenty to spare).

500 points of Uruk-hai (some of my scouts aren't painted).

500 points of Elves (I'm redesigning the banner, so that's not complete)

Some Rohan that are used to proxy (all painted).

500 points of Angmar (all painted).

Also:

A Balrog and Sauron, but they rarely see the glory of battle (I don't like playing with Balrogs, they aren't that fun to use).

Then I have the startings of a 40k CSM force, they're painted, but under revision.

I have the same rule now a days but I got all my models 11-9 years ago when I was around 9-11 and my brother (who also collected) was 6-8, when I didn't have the patience to paint them and it all got a bit out of control. I would paint them all but have you ever looked at 700ish unpainted models? It's pretty unnerving.

I have Sauron as well but I have yet to use him since I have started playing, is he equally unenjoyable to play with?

Wow, that is a lot of Easterlings! The most I have of any one type is 110 goblins!

I only have 8 Easterlings with 2 Easterling captains but they are all the original metal ones, not the newer plastic ones. How to Easterlings play? Similar to Gondor I imagine? (Hope that didn't tread on any toes! )

I've never used the Mumak, though the Easterlings are effectively Gondor with their Pike special rule.

It's hard to transport and I rarely find opponents to play with in such large games, though my Morgul Knights do a fine job, I play a friend who uses Dol Armoth Knights which fall quickly in the face of 'Terror'.

He's more entertaining, I am always near a heart attack when he's down to one wound.

And it's always just a soldier that slays him.

I also have 2 friends (brothers) that each got every starter set, and then some.

That's a LOT of models.

Yeah transport must be difficult, it is a strange shape compared to most things and unlucky for him (I think) I haven't got any morgul knights so I don't know what they play like unfortunatly

You (and your brothers(I mean friends ) must have a lot of models between you!

I'm hoping to use him when me and my friend play one of the special battles from the mordor/free peoples sourcebook (haven't decided which one yet) so hopefully he will be entertaining then. And isn't it always the way that the great heroes are always killed by the average solider!

I know! When I was younger I used to play it with my brother and we sort of ended up in an 'arms race' of models so to speak. Then when my brother stopped playing he said that I could by it off him for quite a low price and so I did.

Good news is though, there is a bit of a LOTR resurrection going on in my area and quite a lot of people play it now. So I can break out the collection once more.

I have been collecting for nearly 2 years, and started painting a year ago, although I haven't done any since Christmas.... I think I'm addicted, I love lotr and have done for years, just wish I had started playing when they first came out so could have had lots of opponents to play! Still the hobbit is coming and that should boost people playing!

Problem is, I already have 100% painted, and yea, that was my goal to have 100% painted before I get something new. I tried posting in painting service list for a) something to paint b) money to buy models. But I'm too new and my post got taken down. My only income is $30 a month (I'm 14 and that's allowance) And you know how much stuff is! But w/ my expensive as wall street devastators I have a 2k point list after just starting an august.

I hate playing un painted armies so I make a point to only play w/ painted models. Especially when I have 2k of grey space wolves charging me, there is no fear, no joy, no fulfillment killing a gray statue.

In WotR points I have(late night estimating, probably underestimating):

-5 or 6 Thousand points of Moria(tons of goblins, lots of trolls, lots of Spiders, Balrog, Epics, Wargs, etc.)
-2 or 3 Thousand points of Mordor(The Nine, lots of orcs, Epics, Legendaries, etc.)
-4 or 5 Thousand points of Angmar(This is not that impressive though. Ghosts are expensive in points)

I think the points are slightly more in SBG

How big is your collection? @ 2012/04/20 12:04:25

Post by: deathstreak2000

Yeah the points are higher by quite a bit.

Just from memory (I may be slightly wrong) but a company of dwarfs (8 guys) is around 30-35 points in WoTR whereas the same models in SBG would be 72 points.

A company of orcs is around 20 points (again I think) but the same models would be 48 points.

Even if those exact figures are wrong (and they probably are) you can see that everything is cheaper in WoTR

I have played loads of WotR and love it - there are loads of battle reports on my blog, just stared SBG... Love that too, but it is on a much smaller scale, so we are planning to go through the book doing loads of scenarios and playing either LotR or WotR depending on which fits best, my heart at the moment is still WOTR but others will disagree.

If you have big armies WOTR, if not LotR, they are both good games :-)

I haven't played WoTR but I have read the rulebook for it when I was considering playing it.

You can't compare them really since WoTR is a similar sort of game to warhammer fantasy and SBG is a skirmish game.

In my opinion SBG is better but both that's not to say WoTR is a bad game! The rule for it looked awesome

How big is your collection? @ 2012/04/20 22:24:40

Post by: leonardis

Why compare? You could say SBG is like 40k... So why compare when you can play both!!? I mean the figures are the same.... The rules aren't that different and actually, being able to both skirmish and hold huge battles is exactly what I want from Lotr...

I love it!

What is the difference between WoTR and LoTR? Is it the same as apocalypse and non-apocalypse?

How big is your collection? @ 2012/04/21 07:56:17

Post by: leonardis

I don't know about apocalypse... For wotr I would look on my blog at the battle reports, it gives you a good sense of the game.
http://www.eastgrinsteadwargamers.blogspot.co.uk/

Regarding the differences, let me start with the similarities -
The rounds/phase are the same, priority, move & magic, shoot, (charge for wotr) then fight...

In wotr the troops go in movement trays and all warriors in that formation have the same stats, apart from heros. The battles although bigger can be quite fast once you are up to speed with the rules. You need lots of models to play.

Lotr each warrior has his own stats based on armour and weapon and moves independently. You can play with a handful of figures.

Both use the same models, both are good games in their own right. I hope this helps, I am writing from my phone so can't write an indepth report!

Nothing matches up to the mumak. It has like 2 and a half pages of rules and is like over 12 inches tall. Not sure exactly on size but it's blooming massive.

Atleast with the great beast of gorgoroth the guys come on the howdah for free. Or atleast that;s what i'm guessing from looking at the bit on the GW site.

Haha yeah nothing really compares to it

Yeah the guys are free, and there is 9 of them meaning you get an effective 54 point discount off it and it one counts as one bow for determining bow limit!

WOW, you must have about 90% of the heros you can get!

How long did it take you to type that out as well

I've got Elrond hiding in the repairs box as well. I actually typed it into notepad and then copied and pasted it here, and I already have a written list in front of me that I wrote ages ago to keep track of what I had.

ooo thinking about your collection. If i come along in the summer could we do the battle with Sharkus hunters? The one that Jackson made up. I really like the idea of a full warg army.

We can look at different scenarios depending on what's painted, last week I spoke with craig about creating a huge mines of Moria scene and or the ruins of osgiliath, just depends on what we plan to play Lotr of wotr!? When you do come we can discuss what you want to play and I'll bring the figures and make sure we have the correct scenery too so that we can get a 2 v 2 battle or run two seperate battles... So many options!

Yeah, i'm likely to let you know what i'll want to play well before i come a long anyway. Just lemme know if anything is ever planned for the summer so i'll know exactly when to come down I mean i'm 23 so i'm not a kid XD just incase you were worried lol.

Haha! No we have all ages in our club 'kids and all' although there is a strong adult contingent who play Lotr... I leave the younger ones to play 40k!

haha makes sense to me. It;s the same around here. Ceot a couple really dirty WotR kids. Some of the older locals hate it lol. But always the odd kid that comes along and wrecks you without trying lol. one of them has an angmar army abusing werewolves with an allied in stone giant. It;s nasty.
