I havent seen one of these kicking around for too long, so here we go again, what is the best model you've ever made? Whether its for the sculpting, painting, or whatever else, which do you like best? Only rule is that it has to be finished, other than that go crazy, 40K, Fantasy, Warmachine, etc, etc.
It's the only model I count as finished as was for a little comp in my gw, was more for working on New skills than anything. Pictures are a little dark, It's what they took as don't have a lightbox/ macro lens for my camara.
At the moment i really like my commissar from forgeworld though i wish i had made his coat dark grey and not black but here he is.
dont like his boots either but i painted him a year ago almost
The other one i like the most would be my armored sentinel, i reallly like sentinels and im super happy with how he turned out.
My recent Farseer is one of my most technically accomplished I guess, but he's been doing the rounds loads lately and I don't wanna bore you all with him.
So here's another recent favourite of mine - the mighty Krull!
I'm not totally sure what my BEST painting job is, but my stompa is by far my pride and joy just because I took so much time with it, and it is such a centerpiece!
There are more pics in my gallery or in my finished and WIP in my signature.
Also, everyone's work in this post is really fantastic. Some of those Warbosses are top-notch. I am definitely jealous hehe.
Some great stuff here! Really enjoying reading through it. My fave at the moment is my Tallarn Lt. (so much so I sigged it), but some of my orks are vying for the top spot more and more these days!
There certainly are some extremely talented painters and converters in this thread. I'm a fan of Cyto and Xeriapt in particular...Xeriapt, PM'd you about the GK.
As I haven't painted much to date the choice for me is easy:
I couldn't limit it to one, so here are my favorites:
I'm really happy how the weathering on this turned out, and I just plain love the look of the model. I'm also really happy with the conversions on the exhaust.
This is my other. It's one of the only models where I tried to sculpt something and I thought it came out ok. I'm happy with the modeling and painting and overall pleased with the piece.
And lastly for infantry, I love this model. I like how it captures the crazy zealot monk look I think of for the word bearers. Plus I am pleased with how the flames look.
Some awesome images in this thread, seriously the work makes me want to both work furiously to improve my skill and give up on the idea I'd never get that good >_>
For the blue I used that Citadel Foundation Blue(Can't remember almost all of the Citadel colours since they keep changing it). Then I just drybrushed with a light Grey color, then used a black wash. The green was either a Citadel or Vallejo Green as a basecoat. Then Drybrushed with a lighter green and drybrushed again with a kinda florescent green. Then a black wash over the feathers. Sorry, I forget what most of the color names were that I used. I usually identify my paints by color and not by name.
For me painting is usually the same, Basecoat one color, then drybrush(Highlight), washes, rehighlight with same or different colors if necessary. I usually just go by feel so unfortunately for me painting many things the same can vary if don't paint them all at the same time. Hmmm.. Maybe I should write down what I do so I know what I did incase if I want to reproduce the effect.

Sorry dude, wish my explanation would be better.
How long does it all take, because I could spend a week and not get that job done as well as you

I'd have to vote for Legacy of Solomon, just because Anima Tactics needs some love. I also think the blending and colour choice on it are a bit better.
The Dragon Knight Lord (counts as Jetbike Autarch) for my Exodite army is one of my favorite models. It was the first model I painted for competition in my gaming club and won hands down.
I don't really paint much so it's quite easy for me to pick out a best model; having a lack of painted models to begin with really narrows it down
Either my Skink Priest, about my 3rd or 4th completed model ever:
Or my Farseer, although I can't remember how many models i've painted before him, but i'm certain I can still count it on my fingers:
Yes the faceplate looks crap, but that's because it's probably a bad cast judging by the paint coverage and the fact that the wash pooled so much on it. The paints were definately thin enough, and that silver is (IIRC) the third colour I tried for it without success, so I can't really blame the paint, especially when you consider that it covered fine on the rest of the model and on other models they're used on (including my Autarch, who will be posted if and when my camera stops complaining).
Ariadnain 112, Emergency Services operator. Beautiful sculpt, great overall tabletop unit and arguable the best doctor within Infinity. Absolutely, worth every penny.
I absolutely hate everything about the GW Dreadknight model.
That one, on the other hand, is awesome. Captures the look and feel of Imperium technology and 40K so much better than the Matrix robot suit abortion that they put on the shelves.
Yeah, not *quite* what I was going for... it's *supposed* to be a Stormboy Nob just after landing Power Klaw first onto a (unsuspecting? probably not actually...) Space Marine and is now preparing to deal with another target...
This is probably mine. It's Eldrad but in my own paint scheme. It's definitely my best model in my 14 years of life. Sorry its come out a bit pixelated and the flash was a bit bright. Oops

I'm actually pretty new to this, only been playing and painting for a few months. The credit for the conversion belongs to Insaniak. He did it up for me for a birthday present. Any painting mistakes, sadly, belong to me lol
This is the best model I have painted so far. It won me my local GW painting competition but just barely. It was a 3 way tie with the tie breaker going to me. I'm still learning and getting better but I'm pretty proud of this guy. I'm also still working on how to take good quality pictures.

This is a great model, and I like the gold on it a lot
lols, the skin tone was using old GW paint now out of production, but, the recipe is: one part Graveyard earth to one part spacewolf grey, then highlight with Kommando Khaki, and finally highlight with bleached bone.
Hey all! Ive been watching this thread for a while now, and finally got around to taking some pictures. I am going to say that this is most likely my best model.
AnUnearthlyChilde wrote:So as not to sound egotistical lols I won't say best, but I'd have to say my favourite miniature is Captain Howlet of the 13th Grand company:
Such a cool model, as are many in this thread. I particularly like the converted claws!
My Flying Hive Tyrant, which I sold on ebay long ago, sniff sniff , along with the rest of my Tyranid Army. Definitely my best conversion ever, paintjob ok.
orcpainternerd wrote:This has to be one of my best. The tank was a kit bash done by a good buddy of mine M.A.C painted and airbrush work done by myself.
I love you lots work, do you have any pictures of the Pre-Heresy builds?
I have to pick this old fellow, which infact is Decaius, lord of Nurgle, himself. I chose him for most subjective reasons: I painted him back in 2002 and this was the first true conversion I did. He started out as a Death Guard standard bearer. His sword+right hand come from a very old chaos knight, the head was cut top-half and replaced with a head from the chaos mutation sprue, completed with green stuff hair. The banner was made from green stuff too. At the time of his creation, I was very proud of him. I still am and he has lead countless of battles against the Imperium.

O GOD THE BRONIES THEY'VE INFECTED DAKKADAKKA GOD NO NOOOOOO ABANDON THREAD!!! but that second model is pretty cool. It looks like something out of Afro Samuri or something.
I know im not that great of a painter but i realy like my sternguard veteren,... still looking for an awesome highlight... Just cant decide which colour ...
I would love to see these in real life, at first i thought it looked shopped, but on closer inspection it just looks like you've created a whole new painting style...
I'm almost embarrassed to through my mediocre-at-best paint jobs in this thread that is filled with fantastic looking models, but here's one of my favourites from my collection:
