Hello, everyone! So I thought I'd share a little fun idea I had for a fan fic GK army that was based off of a game I played with some friends a while back and my boredom with the basic boltgun metal color scheme. Well, not really the whole army is fan fic but I'll let you know what happened.

So my buddy(playing DOA BA army) and I(playing GKs) were playing a tag team game against two of our other friends that were playing CSM and Daemons. At one point in the game it seemed like the forces of chaos were dead set on taking me out first. I say this because a decent number of Daemon and CSM units had my GKs surrounded (I made lots of bad rolls, and they made lots of good ones) Through a turn of shooting and assaulting barely any of my models were left, but then my team mate finally made his reserve rolls/got his models into the fight and ended up saving some of my guys. This is a start for my fan fic, but with a little extra twist.

Essentially, the GKs were called in to intercept a Daemon incursion. Upon arrival the GKs realize that they've been lured into a trap and are now cut off from communication as well as retreat. After much fighting there the GK's numbers are crippled, and all seems lost. As the Grandmasters rally their men for a final stand, Thunderhawks bearing the Exorcists markings arrive and begin deploying troops to aid the GKs. With the help of the Exorcists the GKs are able to wipe the Daemons out. When asked how the Exorcists knew to come to their aid, the Exorcist's Chapter Master explains that recently he and many under his command have begun to experience changes such as being able to sense nearby Daemons and some even began to develop Psychic abilities. Concerned with these new abilities the GK's and the Inquisition request the Exorcists return with them for testing.

After many tests its believed that the "Possession Therapy" coupled with the Emperor's geneseed has given rise to new abilities in the Exorcists. The Inquisition is fascinated by this turn of events, and requests further combat data. Though at the heart of it they also wish to find out if the Exorcists are falling to Chaos. The GKs, however thankful for their aid, also believe that the forces of Chaos may have taken hold of the Exorcists. After the battle with the Daemons the GK's number were seriously crippled and it would be some time before new recruits could be trained. The Inquisition, rather than declare the Exorcists heretics, suggest that a number of their newly gifted Exorcists join the GK ranks as a temporary company to aid them in hunting down and destroying Daemon incursions. The Exorcists know this is just a ploy. The Exorcists know this is about keeping an eye on them and they vow to do whatever it takes to prove they are not heretics. Taken to the GK's fortress and given the armor/weapons of the GKs, as well as personal servo skulls to watch their every move, the Exorcists are shown how to hone and focus their new psychic abilities despite always being under the constant watch of skeptical GKs and the Inquisition. The tensions run high indeed as some of the GKs begin to refer to these Exorcist recruits as "Daemon Company". Yet despite being watched and constantly alienated by the GKs and the Inquisition the Exorcists constantly do their best to prove that their chapter is loyal to the Emperor and no one else.

[Story Update!]
The end of the 41st Millennium draws to a close. Warp storms and Daemon incursions increase in frequency and magnitude. The Eye of Terror has opened up and spilled out Daemons, Chaos Space Marines and their great war ships to attack Cadia. It is the beginning of the 13th Black Crusade. For many months the gifted Exorcists battle brothers that have been assimilated, temporarily, into the Grey Knights have done all in their power to prove their loyalty to the Emporer. Predicting incursions, wiping daemon worlds out, and warning the Grand Masters that something terrible is coming. Despite their best efforts the Grey Knights, and the Inquisition still watch their every move with great interest. After the Eye of Terror opened up a few Chaos ships went not after Cadia, but an unknown target. A Grey Knight's Battleship is the nearest to intercept. After a surprise attack by the Grey Knights only 1 Chaos ship remains, though both ships are badly damaged. The Chaos ship continues on to its intended target, Titan, with the Grey Knights in hot pursuit. The Chaos ship unable to maintain orbit after continued battle crashes to Titan's surface, but not before the forces of Chaos were able to make planet fall. The Grey Knight's ship was able to dock and regroup to take out any survivors.

In the immaterium, a familiar figure wanders the shifting landscape sword and shield in hand. A familiar voice whispers to him "Our servants have invaded your Brotherhood. Soon, they will destroy them from the inside. There is nothing you can do. You, and your, Emporer have lost!" Kaldor Draigo continues to wander through the warp with increasing irritation. Where once daemons sought to destroy him or tempt him into their servitude, now they only taunt him. Draigo knows that something big is happening, and he needs to do what he can to aid his brothers. As he wanders he comes to a great stretch of flat land, and an ocean of daemons all waiting for something. Knowing what this could mean Draigo makes his way down to them, and patiently waits.

On Titan the Grey Knights and memebers of the Daemon Company reach the crash site to find stiff resistance already waiting for them. While the battle rages a large warp rift is opened on Titan and thousands of Daemons pour out with a stow away. Upon seeing their Supreme Grand Master emerge from the rift the Grey Knights charge head long into the daemon horde to rally to their lost leader. As they battle Draigo asks his brothers "What world do we fight upon brother?" After cutting down a number of daemons a grandmaster replies "Do you not recognize this place? You are home brother. You have returned to Titan." Upon hearing that he has returned to Titan, Draigo grabs the grandmaster and demands that all retreat to the fortress.

At the fortress Draigo gathers his grandmasters to him to discuss what Chaos could want here and asks to be updated on the situation as well as why some of the battle brothers have different colored armor. Theories range from a random attack to a distraction to tie up reenforcements to Cadia. Draigo then remembers what the whispers had told him and asks about the Exorcists. Upon hearing their story Draigo draws his sword, says they smell of heresy, and claims to know that they are spies sent by Chaos to destroy the Grey Knights. With the verdict of the Supreme Grand Master the Grey Knights launch attacks on the Exorcists that they had fought beside, as Daemons and Chaos Space Marines continue attempts to breach the fortress. Distress signals are sent to all outposts requesting back up and declaring the Exorcists fallen to Chaos. The Exorcists on Titan plead with the Grey Knights that they have done nothing, and that they are fools to follow a man who lives in the warp with the abominations they are sworn to destroy. As the fight in the fortress continues an explosion sends many Grey Knights, Exorcists, and Draigo flying in all directions. As the smoke clears the remaining members of Daemon company head outside to face the daemons rather than fight the Grey Knights. Draigo awakens to find his battle brothers lifting him to his feet. Out of the corner of his eye Draigo sees a shadow darting around the halls and toward the Chamber of Purity. Draigo takes a few men with him to go after this intruder, orders the others to destroy the daemons and any Exorcists they find. As they descend into the fortress Draigo can't help but feel that something is wrong about the battle brothers that accompany him. Before arriving at the chamber Draigo, and his men find bodies of fallen Grey Knights directing them to their target. In the chamber, Draigo instructs his men to check the vaults where all daemon artifacts, and daemons are kept. Draigo enters the Chamber of Purity to get the Terminous Decree(Check the 40k wiki on this), but when he opens the door a familiar hooded figure in dark green power armor with a large sword strapped to his back stands in the room holding the artifact. Draigo charges the intruder, but his adversary is nimble, and able to get around him. Draigo shouts to the men who had accompanied him, but as they approach he realizes that he has been deceived. These were not his battle brothers, these were minions of Chaos that had been glamoured(the spell) to appear as astartes. Daemons that had long been held captive in the depths of the fortress had been released and many artifacts now lie in the hands of heretics. Enraged at this deception Draigo attempts to kill all the heretics that had stolen the artifacts and released more daemons upon the fortress so that he could make his way back to Cypher. Many of the daemons charged Draigo looking to gain some measure of revenge for their imprisonment while the rest escaped with the artifacts. All of the daemons that charged Draigo were cut down as he tries to continue the search for the traitor that stole the Terminous Decree.

Outside the fight is a battle royale. Grey Knights banishing daemons. Daemons attacking the Daemon Company. The Daemon Company attempting to simply dodge the attacks of the Grey Knights hoping they would see reason. Soon the daemons outside are almost all cut down. Draigo, bursts through the fortress doors looking for Cypher. As he looks in all directions, all the astartes begin to change shape, and come to the form of daemons. Draigo again charges determined to get to the bottom of this, recover the lost artifact that could save the Grey Knights, and the imperium. Moments after cutting down these daemons, Grey Knights arrive to see their Supreme Grand Master standing over the bodies of fellow Grey Knights, members of the Daemon Company, and Daemons yelling, and swinging wildly. Brought to his senses by his brothers Draigo realizes that the dark gods have cursed his sight for now he could not tell friend from foe. Even though he did not willingly take part in this deception Draigo is declared tained by the dark gods. Draigo requests execution as punishment, which is granted, as his brothers finish banishing the daemons, and heretics that had laid waste to their fortress. Before his execution is carried out a familiar voice whispers in his ear "We thank you Lord Draigo. We couldn't have done it without you."

On a hidden area of Titan, Cypher stands holding the Terminous Decree. He examines it for a short time then tosses it into a fire, and disappears without a trace.

So what do you guys think? I'm not a great story teller or anything so sorry if my little fan fic was a little boring lol. I'm going to start posting WIP pics of "Daemon Company" Paladins as I get them done. These Paladins will be in a modified Exorcists color scheme. Here's some pics of the base coats with a Badab Black wash, the Purity Seals and books were washed with Devlan Mud. I popped his arms off because I find its easier to work on. He has been built and awaiting paint for a few months now I just haven't had the time. You'll also notice that this Paladin doesn't have a back banner. I don't bother with them. It makes things difficult when trying to get them in my BattleFoam so I've left them off for less headaches.





I really wanted these guys to stand apart from normal GKs to further the impression that they are being alienated by the GKs and the Inquisition. The Servo Skull on his back to show that he is constantly being watched. I'll even be doing his force sword in a different color. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for the input. With the sword I did a lot of drybrushing layers with reds into orange and then one of white. This is similar to the method I used on my normal GKs, though it didn't seem to be as effective. I'll have to look up some lightning effects tutorials and probably use a red wash to see if I can get a better effect.

Cool colour scheme and well executed.

I like the background for these guys too - not one for the purist - but a cool opportunity for something different on the conversion front (are they corrupted or not?).

Thanks for the post. I hadn't decided if they were actually corrupted or not, essentially this follows my own thoughts on whether or not I want to pick up the upcoming chaos dex. Will it be worth getting? Will it be worse than the current dex? Leaving the story open, means it can evolve as I continue to play and come up with new ideas based on games I've played and releases. For now they are loyal, but perhaps its just a trap set by the gods of chaos ready to be sprung when the time is right.

On a side note I'll be trying some lightning effects tonight and post the results, as well as starting on the next model. Anyone have any input of what would be good for a scenic base?

Need a base to really make the red stand out, maybe a deadland with black/grey or a desert sand?

I could post my own attempt at the lightning or link a tutorial if you like?

I've been debating on what kind of basing to do with these guys. I tried the Lightning effects and it doesn't look that great so I tried a different approach and it looks a lot better than my attempt at Lightning effects. Here's some pics of my newest model.

I think the swords would look better in a different colour to the armour. It adds a little bit of difference which is important on a figure IMO. Otherwise they look great, its a really cool idea. I like it, I also particularly like the blending on the armour plates from black into red. Good work, I will stay tuned.

@Imperial Monkey I chose a red color for the sword because normally GKs force weapons are blue, and I was going for something very opposite. In addition the Red/Orange/Yellow gives it a kind of khorne blood letter weapon look.

The red is definitely a nice change, in keeping with your fluff too... Is "a kind of khorne blood letter weapon look" a hint that they are actually corrupted???

It maybe. Or they could've inherited more than resistance to the warp, perhaps they also inherited some of Khorne's urge to fight. Though if this is the case then their force weapons could be painted differently to reflect the traits of the daemon that had possessed them. Green for Nurgle, Red for Khorne, Purple for Slaanesh, and Blue for Tzeecht(probably butchered the names lol). Interestingly enough originally I had the thought that the Daemon Company was intentionally repossessed by a daemon before going to battle acting like a combat stimulant increasing the marine's abilities, but after thinking about it a lot and what would work best with existing storyline I decided against it.

IMO a colour per unit is enough! Mixing may just start to look like a rainbow .

I do have a Dreadknight that needs primed and painted, perhaps after I'm done with a unit of Paladins I'll do the Knight in the Daemon Company scheme with a green or purple Greatsword.

Thanks, I did kinda mess up when building him because I put the shoulder guards on the wrong arms but I'm not too worried.

This Apothacary has all of his base coats and has been washed with badab black, the parchment was washed with devlan mud.

I may or may not be able to work on this guy tonight due to my computer needs a fresh install of windows.

Totally different to my style of painting

This is different for me too. Normally with my standard GKs I prime them black and do heavy drybrushings of boltgun, chainmail, and mithril. With these I'm actually using a brush topaint every inch of the model and draw the highlights on, its more time consuming and a steady hand is required but the effect is still nice.

Just to keep people in the loop I probably won't be able to do any painting til Sunday/Monday night. At some point this weekend I may post a step by step of colors and washes that I used if people are interested.

I planned on doing a group shot of all of em once the unit was done. I picked up some modeling rocks that look like concrete this weekend. I'll going to try and do some bases with pieces of that and sand.

I know you're happy with the force weapons so far (and why shouldn't you? They look great! ) but I think Monkey has a point with the broader palette idea. A bit of spot color would go a long ways, imho. That's why I like your apothecary best so far, that bit of blue on the narthecum and the yellow searchlamp do a lot for the model (while still avoiding the aforementioned "Rainbow Company" look ) I think a different eye color would be easiest, but you could also go with non standard script in the armor or the little heraldry shields...

I had made mention that I had thought about doing different color weapons for different units. Any ideas for a better color scheme for the force weapons, or shields? I do have a number greens shades available as well as Thraka green wash that would be easy to use. The red eyes, I think, furthers the idea that the Daemon Company has been corrupted by chaos and gives them a more imposing image.

As for the base, it isn't the textured paint. Its just sand and pva glue. I did a coat over top of the sand to seal it down so it wouldn't brush off and leave a mess.

The lens were opinions from others. I like the red lens, but green ones do seem to make things a little better.

white helmets would look sick on these..

An interesting idea, but dear god do I hate trying to do white! Lol. I barely got my Purifiers looking halfway decent. I do have some extra heads I could mess around with and see which looks better.

I'm trying to decide which is better. Leaving the bases as is, or doing that second coat of pva glue like I did with the Apothacary. That second coat not only seals it, but also makes the dirt look more like mud.

I'd like to see more of your work. It pretty impressive.

I have 5 and an Apothacary done, I've got 1 that's base coated and washed that I'll be working on tonight. So that leaves 4 more and the bases.

So ten paladins and the apothecary? Or does that four include the one you have base coated and washed?

I have 10 Paladins and an Apothacary total. 5 Paladins and the Apothacary are done, I'm working on Paladin #6, then I have 4 more to do. I have a total of 6 bases to do.

Personally I would've gone for blue over green for a different colour of weapon....but I guess that a bit genetic for power weapons.

I like the green as well. I noticed that it seems to blend a lot more smoothly. Though it can easily be changed. I was simply testing to see how it would look since it was suggested to broaden the pallet a little.

Here is the next Paladin. Would've finished him last night, but a good friend was on American soil for the first time in a year, and we had to celebrate lol.

Thanks guys! That is Mechrite Red with a Badab Black wash. I moved most of the wash towards the corners/cracks and also towards the middle of the plates that way it won't be covered up when I go back and highlight it.

This Paladin's arms are kinda custom by accident lol. He's going to has a Halberd just like the one I posted here while back, but when I went to pull his arms off it snapped the Halberd! So I chopped down the the bit that was still in his hand and grabbed a Halberd with the long purity seal out of my bits and hopefully when he's done the pose will look nice.

And so the great work continues!

I really like the diversity of poses, this appears to be surging forward and is a good contrast to the static poses of the others

Painting the same pose over and over again gets boring plus changing up poses gives a more personal feeling to an army.

Ok, haven't got all the base coats done yet but here is what I have so far. I'm thinking about coloring the Daemon green. What do you guys think?

Thanks! I was thinking about making the daemon on the banner blue but figured the green would be better. As a whole he was a little harder to paint than the others, not just because of the detail, but also because this paladin was actually primed with a silver primer that I wanted to test out months ago. Unfortunately it came out like a Mithril Silver so trying to cover that up and keep the colors dark wasn't easy.

Though tonight I'm going back through the unit and fixing some force weapons, then I'll try to get more bases done and most likely I'll have a group shot of the entire unit.

Alright here are some group shots. I don't have the Grandmaster based yet, I only have 2 extra 40mm bases at the moment lol, but he will be worked on. I'll probably start working on the Dreadknight next.

Thanks, but like I said I didn't get done base coating it. I still have to add more black to certain areas, boltgun metal to others, and decide if I want to try and free hand a design on his shield it see if I can get a water transfer that would look good.

Ok, I got some more colors done. I almost forgot how much of a pain in the a$$ painting a Dreadknight is lol.

It's getting there! Can't be worse than painting a Tau tank, so... many..... layers.....

And I demand a freehand design!

If I do a freehand design I'm thinking of doing the Exorcist chapter symbol.

I have to stay late for work all this week so I want get as much done, but I'll do what I can.

Of course work comes first but I feel that a design on the shield would be that little thing that makes the model great

P.S. I really don't know my grey knights fluff but would they allow a dreadknight to a unit which they suspect may be falling to chaos? Or has it come from the Exorcists chapter?

The Grey Knights wouldn't allow outsiders to use their tech, but for the sake of the theme of the army I'll just ignore that part lol.

Got some highlighting done. I just need to do the red highlights, the design on his shield, his force sword, and then a final wash.

Very nice, like the mechanicus symbol, good contrast of colours.

@Eldartau the dreadknight isn't hard to build though I would suggest painting it before its full built. There are so many nooks and crannys that pop out once its built and its hard to get them.

Here is the mostly finished Dreadknight. Still need to do his force sword, try something with his shield and do his base. I tried the Purple on a sword and it didn't really look good. I think I'll stay with the "fiery sword" look.

Oh well, just a suggestion!

I really like the fade from black to red on shin pads, stood out from the rest

Gotta love the washes. After two washes it really made that mechrite red dark. Though it seems the new black wash is a lot thicker and darker than the old Badab black wash. Probably should've used a glaze but I'm still very pleased with the way this model came out.

Alright here is the Dreadknight with his finished force sword and I went with the water transfer just because I'm terrible at free hand stuff lol. I'll post pics when I get the base done, which will be sometime next week.

Lol sorry my hand isn't steady enough to do the what I wanted. I'm going to take a little break to get some non Daemon Company stuff caught up. I'll be back to do the land raider. After that I'll have to actually buy more PAGK so I can do Interceptors/Strike Squads/Purifiers. Lol

Instead of taking them to the grey knight fortress, you could say the GK's gave them the wargear of the fallen warriors, and found a trait with the armour that it's color depends on the Psyker powering it (Remember that the armor is powered with the Aegis). Because these are different psykers, over some time the color scheme changed to read....

Well the little break turned into a very long break lol. Had to rebuild an entire Guard army I got, built a few Space Wolf units for Apoc games and painted a number of "Normal" Grey Knights. I'm not going to be doing any new models in the Daemon Company scheme for a while,(still so many guard, Space Wolf and Chaos models to paint!!!) but I'm going to be doing some research and hopefully I'll have a continuation/end to my little fan fic.
