Well I gone and dun'it, I started a P&M blog. I've always wanted to do this *Giddy*. For years and years I've wanted to break into this hobby and sink my teeth into it but because of how freg'n expensive our hobby is its always eluded me. I've spent my time well though, reading as much as I could in P&M blogs and Tutorials and I finally have a fantastic job that pays me enough money to waste on something I enjoy.
My sources of inspiration are: Smiling assassin's Irkutsk 24th http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/235696.page
TheAmbit's gun jeeps http://advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=17176&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=60

The Army Painter's 3 step process http://www.thearmypainter.com/

My log is meant to be a motivator and a place to show off stuff I've done.
I'll leave the fluff stuff for another post.
For the majority of my first squad I'm still waiting for some1 to make the kind of rifles I'm looking for, I really like Anvil industry's rifles and I have a few of them on their way in the mail. So I'll see how they come out. For the time being I'm using Maxmini's Combat torsos', and my pistols are from Zinge Industry.

First guy I have put together, one of my squad medics with pistol and combat knife.

I used the medic shoulder and arm and I bashed the sergeant pistol grip onto my Zinge pistol

I shaved off 2/3 of the Maxmini back pack (Made me cringe because they arnt cheep >_<!) but when I slamed on the medic back pack it was totally worth it.

The knife is the special weapon arm with the hand cut off and glued upright. The blade came from the mounted rifle bayonet.

My Devildog! Being a Marine I have a fondness for bulldogs and when I posted in the swap shop offering to buy one timetowaste85 came to the rescue and GAVE me one...thats right, FOR FREE. He even paid for shipping. So Thanks again Brian, I'm going to name him after you.

Thats it for now, I'll post more as soon as the Anvil rifles arrive.

Hey guys I have an update!
Anvil Industries Widow maker test rifles came today, I only ordered 2 but I'm glad thats all I got because I don't know how in the same heck I'd get more left arms to hold the models.
Aside from that I got a personal note from Joel which is pretty darn cool. The quality of these rifles is superb you can even aim down the iron sights lol. He warned me in his thread that the rifles arnt made with IG in mind (He is making an IG line soon and some rifle arms so IG can hold the rifles.) but knowing me I was like "Pft just take my money and gtfo Joel.". LOL anyways here we go.

First up is my Comms specialist

He is holding his widdowmaker w/PEQ-7 Laser designator. I made the designator out of spare Tau rifle scope, its really hard to see in person but its pretty convincing.

When I paint up my guys the Catacan (eh spelling? oh well) grenades will be painted in a smoke grenade fashion. ( to better visually mark targets)

I'm trying to keep in mind what equipment is represented, The knife for example, on the medic he has it pulled out but my radioman doesn't so on the model its sheaved. Also being invaluable to the squad the radioman wouldn't be used in an assault fireteam so he doesn't carry grenades.

In his hands he holds a radio that I will later (this week or next) attach a wire to the radio box. I just cut the radio off the voxcaster helmet being careful to leave some of the wires.

Next up is my Corporal (assault team), he is outfitted with the widdowmaker carbine with attached flashlight.
The stock was a nightmare aswell with the radiomans'. I just couldn't get the size right, so now I gotta GS to smooth it out. Joel warned me.

The flashlight was the Anvil scope but the sun visor cut flush.

Regarding his equipment he has extra grenades because the nature of his role in the squad.

Joel didn't/forgot to send a Magazine with the carbine so I used one off of a lasgun, it works great being a more smg variant w/ smaller caliber.

get get a good shot on the horrible stock fitting, What a PITA!! I tried useing the lasgun stock but it was super fail.

Group shot!

Hey!

They look great, im very impressed at your putting the time in to convert guard properly with these. The guns are a little oversized as I said but so are all GW weapons. I will try to get the smaller versions printed sooner rather than later, as the rifles are pretty popular.

Im definately going to make the laser designator, and some upright fore grips are in order as well I think!

I actually quite like the carbine with the stock like that, reminds me of an MP7 PDW, but an industrial scale version!!

Sorry about the missing mag! Did you carefully in the invoice folds and right inside the Jiffy bag? They are very small and it could have come out of the bag. Of course its equally likely I just plain forgot in which Im sorry and ill chuck a few extra mags in with a future order if you place one.

Look forward to seeing how this log progresses!

Cheers,

AH

The radio is a Catachan vox caster, the gun appears to be third-party I have no clue what brand.

Love em! They simply look outstanding! I love the minimax chests, when I can afford it I plan on buying some.

Those rifles are very nice, like a mix between a bolter and a SCAR! Though I'd of just removed the stock like a bolter. Though cutting down such a beautiful weapon would make me cry. lol

Yeah both the torsos' and Widowmakers look just absolutely amazing! and I did cringe when I started chopping. Shaveing the back packs off the torsos' so the medicpack and vox caster could fit on them made me feel sick because if I fugged up it would cost me more $$$ to replace :( but it worked out . If you get the Widdow makers before Anvil Industries makes their IG arms be sure to have plenty of spare arms and riflearms and IG bits in general and be prepared to be creative to fit them.

Rogue Wolves wrote:really nice! how did you make the radio? and how did you make the guns?

The radio is the mouth piece from the vox caster, I choped it off leaving some of the cables attached. I fitted the Widdow maker rifles by first cutting off their grip/trigger and their riflebutts. My thoughts being I'll use the lasgun riflebutts and lasgun grip/trigger. The grip and trigger worked of course, but getting the butt of the rifle just right was terrible. You can see my radiomans' rifle but has a weird white thing in it. That white thing is a half of a Tau (comms thingy that goes on their helmet) comss relay I was able to put between the gap. The upside is that now it looks like a folding stock, so it worked out lol.
I began the same way with the carbine cutting off both parts, once again the stock didn't reach the rifle so instead of fiddleing with it I cut the entirety of the lasgun stock off the arm. I then dry fitted the widdowmaker stock on and I had to clip a minuet chunk out of the stock and flip it upside down for it to fit.

To clean the rifles and fit them and completely finish those 2 guys head 2 bottom took just about an hour.
Edit - forgot the update lol

Well I'm going to hold off on more infantry until Anvil Industries comes out with his IG compatible widdowmaker arms.
So vehicles it is!

This is my first time with Green stuff, with a hobby saw, and with plastic card.
It looks like super fail I know but I hope I can sand it down after it dries...or whatever the stuff does...

I'm converting my Valkyrie into a friggen jet plane. It looks a crap ton better then a vendetta and it fits the them of my army.
http://blog.spikeybits.com/2009/12/on-steel-horse-i-ride-valkyrie-jet.html I'm following this tutorial but I'm so amateur at this, it is proving to be difficult to me.
The tutorial makes it sound real simple but there is a ton of measuring you have to do. I'm past the hard part though all I have left are the wings and cleaning it up a bit more.
I'm not sure how I'm going to mount any weapons or what weapons to mount I'll probably magnetize twhatever I choose.
I can't stress what a PITA its been so far, I think I'll just hire someone to do my next two whenever I can afford it.

Ace looking IG conversions - the Anvil weapons work really well. you've definitely given me plenty of ideas to steal for my squads!

IMHO IG should always look individuals (even if you are building a 200 man army - no excuses!)

Update
Finished with my jet, it looks like crap, once again as an excuse it was my first time with green stuff and plastic card.

I still gotta plastic card that gap behind the pilot seat.

While hobby sawing the front off my jet I noticed just how lopsided my jet was, so I had to GS the bottom of it to look even.

One thing I was able to do was match up the wings really well, I have my main rods running right through the body of the jet into each wing, that makes the wings detachable easily.
Well it wasn't as easy as I thought, I think I'll let my skills get a bit better before I give it another try.
I'm trying to think of ways to prefab knee pads for my infantry, I'm far to lazy to mold so much GS so I'm going to make a mold of some type.

my work table, you can see my infantry all planned out, I just need to wait for Anvil to make their guard compatable arms to carry their rifles.

My bit box, Its dang empty because I've just started hobbying.

There is nothing like the USMC and the Boondock Saints to encourage you! Aswell as my free comic book day trashbag lol.

I'm still waiting for arms that are able to hold the Anvil rifles. I think I might make a few APCs in the mean time.
I'm thinking of combineing a Chimera Mk2 conversion and sliping some Chapter House FAV wheels on it along with mounting a pred turret atop.
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?126013-%93DEATH%92S-HEAD%94-3rd-Krieg-Tank-Division-Titan-Hunter-Detachment/page19
Thats the Chimera Mk2 conversion tutorial.

The fighter is a very cool conversion - very IG - the twin tail works really well. You could also try out the Thunderbolt templates by lackofabettername - very easy builds (though they look complicated) - they are a little small compared to the forgeworld versions (an inch or two either way), but I'd ignore that.

Any more to share?

Update.

My new UAV. I just orderd my conversion set from Chapter house studios so while I'm waiting for that I figured I'd dig around in my valkyrie box and raid it for left over bits.

Its un finished of course, but I think the frame has came along quite nicely, I just need to plastic card the body up, add some bits and it'll be finished.
I'm not sure howto add a cockpit thing, I know its a UAV but we can't have the entire thing be flat :/

Thats my source of inspiration, but I'm not as talented and I don't have the bits.

Btw, thanks laney, I like your work.

Update!
I got my kit from chapter house the other day and I bought a chimera and here are my results.

I wanted to base this vehical into a Marine LAV-25

I turned the heavy stubber into the turret weapon.

The scale is perfect, I'm not going to post the fitting problems that the chapter house kit gave me. The kit itself was perfect no bubbles no warping.
I did have to shave the entire back paneling.

I gotta post in the swap shop that I'm willing to buy another tank hatch if someone has them.

I still gotta GS the fitting gaps and get another tank hatch but its pretty well done. A real easy conversion.

If you do buy some make sure you have a dremel tool otherwise the kits will be a nightmare. Chapter house added a really blocky thick backing for the parts of the chimera to fit on but they dont fit where the blocks are so you gotta sand the gak out of them . I like the kit, just alot of sanding, I'll get a few more.

Nice work. I like the little UAV, very cute

The new turret weapons looks really good too. If you need something a bit more substantial the Predator AC barrel is actually quite reasonably scaled compared to most GW stuff.

I have the same opinion, but that's neither here, nor there. That Chimera kit looks great, I might pick that up along with the SCAR-Lasguns.

I would of got some of the SCAR lasguns just for gaks and giggles but S&H put me like $1 over budget so I just got the kit. If you do by them though you will encounter the same problems I did when I was converting the Anvil rifles. Look at your Lasguns and notice what on them is out of place, the hands. They (GW) built the freggin left hands of the guardsmen into the damned rifle. Thats why I'm waiting for Anvil to make their IG arms to fit their rifles (which will be soon) I also didn't like the fact you couldn't get the SCAR w/GL without a drum mag attached.

The stubber looks sick in the turret. What will you counts as in game?

With regards to your tank hatch, if you want the bit check out Let the Dice Decide. I literally just bought up the last of the chimera bits (I need them too ) so its currently out of stock. Still, Rob does frequent restocks on everything, and carries a load of bits. Check out the hatches on other guard and marine vehicles as well! I highly recommend checking it out for all the bits your looking to use in the project.

If your looking for a quicker solution, check out one of endtransmission's projects.

I think the chimera turret still looks good, especially with the swapped out main weapon. However I also think the predator turret looks allm kinds of awesome on the Chimera chassis, which is why all my Guard tanks have them (Many pics in my dakka gallery)

I was lucky enough to pick mine up when they sold the turret sprue for £5

Also for left hands you can trim off the lasgun quite easily and end up with an open hand. I did this so I could use the Hasslefree CAD guns on my Guard. I recommend a pin vice to help though.

Update! My package came in from Widdow games and Discount war store and 1 day later BAM

I still have yet to mount the rockets but I want to hold off until I decide how I want to mount the other weapons. I want to magnetize them somehow.

The box looks weird with the bedroll hanging down but trust me its impossible to take a picture of but I have the box and bedroll sitting on on of the cockpit steps. I used the grill to cover up the original spot for the steps so I'm useing the steps as a shelf, heh.

There is a shot of the shelf and how I mounted the back wheels. the sprue that was holding the front grill together worked perfect.
I know the front wheels look a bit bowed out but for a first try its not to shabby.
I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to seat a guardsmen in it though, I could just put a torso and head in there and pretend like they don't have space marine legs I guess.

@Flinty, I looked at my lasguns and thought about shaving the hands off and pretty much gak my pants thinking about the prospect. So I just ordered $10 worth of IG arms with open palms.
I also ordered more Anvil Industry rifles so more infantry updates to come soon!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Update. I magnetized a model for the first time, Huzzah!

Way easier than I thought it was going to be.

Dude I am loving the gun jeep and am also a window-box ebay fan. That guys has it all. I think the SM legs in the jeep would be ok if you tried a Storm Trooper style crew. But I have no clue how to pull that off. Im sure you will figure out a win.

Interesting take on the jeep there. Also thanks for sharing the link to the UAV dude, much appreciated.

Where did you get the wheeled Chimera conversion kit from chap?

Look for old metal Imperial Guard heavy weapons teams on the cheap on EBay. All the old Heavy Bolters and Autocannons came with models in a seated position. Plus the legs were a separate piece, so you could get a Catachan or Cadian leg set and mount a modern torso on them. Then simply remove the Space Marine legs from your model.

Here's a picture, though, amusingly, the legs are from a Tallarn, not a Cadian, but you get the idea.

Update! I couldn't wait any longer and decided to go ahead and order more rifles from Anvil Industries. I have a way to get more hands to grip the rifles so that makes me a bit giddy.
Well....lets get to it.

This is one of my heavy weapon specialists In a normal game of 40k the stubber will just be for looks. But in special kill team rules he and his assistant gunner will form a SW team.

The stubber is so dang large it kindda makes me want to throw up alittle because its so borderline obnoxious.

The lighting makes the mold lines stand out more but I assure you I have shaved them off.

This fellow didn't get any grenades because he is part of a heavy weapons team and to valuableto use in assault, that and he is already over burdened from the heavy stubber.
His asst. gunner will carry the tripod and ammo boxes.

Next up we have the squad automatic weapon gunner (SAW) for the support team.

He uses the sling in a way which helps him shoulder the larger Exorcist rifle for longer periods of time.

He has been issued with a target-er.

The larger pouches carry the larger Mag boxes needed to feed the Exorcist.

Once again no grenades have been issued to him because it doesn't suit his role.

Another fine update sir...

Making me think about ordering weaps from Anvil instead of making my own with loads of carving...

I will see... Maybe when I start the bloggy soon some of the guys here can give feedback on my carved modern(ish) weaps...

Anyway I digress As far as the mag pouch goes I would say he is kindly holding extra ammo for his overburdened colleague

Update! After I get my first squad done I'll probably update this blog once everytime I complete a squad instead of the 1-2 men I am right now.

Well first up is my assault fireteam specialist. In this squad I've made him a demo man outfitted with a landmine and demo pack.

TheSupplydrop used the lasgun muzzle as a scop which I thought fit nicely, but because I already am using Anvil scopes I figured I would use them as laser sights, Thanks alot Thesupplydrop I told you people could get inspiration from your stuff

His rifle also has a bayonet attached. You can see the demo pack in this picture its made from the bottom half of a voxcaster.

I didn't shave down his back packbefore I attached the landmine because He would still be packing full gear unlike the radioman who would only be carrying the radio.

I was being mindful of what magazine pouches he had this time around. I didn't think people would pay that much attention to be honest.

The next guy is the assault fireteams' grenadier.

He is outfitted with an Anvil carbine with gp-25 grenade launcher attachment.

I have fixed up the Grenade sight aperture which makes it alittle more flush with the rifle.

You can see his grenade puches in back. The are ork accessories pouches.

Once again I was mindful of the ammunition pouches he has.

Group shot.

So far for the squad I have
Fireteam A (Assault)
- Ft leader
-Specialist
- (Saw gunner MIA...forgot to order a Exorcist carbine >_<!!!)
-Grenadier

Fireteam B (Base of fire)
- (Squad leader WIP)
-Communication Specalist
-Medic
-Squad Automatic Rifleman
-Heavy machine gunner
- ( Assistant HMG WIP)

@TheSupplyDrop Thanks for sharing your picture, you should Definitively take the 5 minutes out of your day to start a blog, I've posted like 7 IG figures and have 3 pages of replys it really motivates you especially when you know you've inspired someone. Your rifle looks unique, a bit like the Elysian rifles but still unique on their own rite none the less. If you do what to give Anvil rifles a try you could give different men in your squads different rifles. I hate to use myself as an example I'm useing the Widdow-maker rifles for my Fireteam B, the Widdow-maker carbines for my FT-A and for my automatic riflemen they are using the Exorcist rifles. Don't let yourself get tied down.

You get replies because your work is well thought out and you've got great attention to detail

How did you get the targetter monocle in there? Is is just a dab of GS?

On a more serious note I'm seeing mould lines in various places, I assume they will be taken care of

No dude, don't worry about it, you are totally right. I'm puting alot of money into these guys I might as well make them top notch!
I really appreciate you letting me know about that Ghost.

@Flinty thanks for the compliment, the targeter is the eye-patch head on the command sprue I just gave it a different name. I plan on painting it black with a red dot or I'll try to paint a bulls eye on it but my painting is terrible. The mold lines will be taken care of when I finish all 10 men, I spent my monthly 40k allowance on 6thed pre order, so I need something to do in july lol.

New Abortion: I see 'Crons and Tau in the background sheesh someone gonna be a busy boy! The muzzle for Laser sighting is a great idea... Love it! The attention for detail of pouching is great too.

I too added an autogun turret to my Chimera, as I like to think it looks more scary than the pew pew GW moulded on! I painted it a while back and added bit of snow, think I'll either sell it on or strip it as my new Guard are going to be coloured in with desert colours...

I promise I'll get a blog on the go real soon, as I do have more weapons custom carved but didnt want to jack and bog down your fantastic work.

As always keep blogging dude.

Update!
2 more chaps done.
First up will be the squad leader.

I've taken Flintys advise about carving the hands away from the guns to create open palms, but I just cut the gun up until only the hand is left, and then I use the dremel to hollow out the palm.

The left arm is an arm from the officer sprue.

He has a widdow maker rifle with gl and laser designator.

My next guy is my assisstant HMG. Originally I had the Heavy weapon tripod cut to look like it wa folded up but it simply didn't fit onto the back of the model.

At least I gave him the stubber ammo.

@40kFSU Thanks alot for the compliment. No I haven't, my painting is horrible so I guess I'll try The Army Painter method. I guess I'll just go with muted greens browns and blacks.

@TheSupplyDrop I'm looking forward to your work man be sure to take pictures of your Chimera before you get rid of it.

nice action pose on the machine gunner, released the mag so its dropping and he is reloading! nice. now on you leader i really like the posing, although i feel that if you did some (logical) unhelmeted head it would better make him stand out, maybie an officers cap, or a beret of somesort? but even if not i still like his pose, although you make me want to cry about the fact that my brand new dremel hasnt been working for a few weeks, and i could be making opened hands!!

I was thinking about changing his head and if I can without messing up the rest of the model I will, thanks for the input. What kind of dremel do you have?
When my mom passed away she gave me her craftsman dremel that was over 10 years old, I normally hate craftsman but I'll give them credit where its due.

The knife is the special weapon arm with the hand cut off and glued upright. The blade came from the mounted rifle bayonet.

I wish I had the talent to sculpt like that, alas I bought it from Zinge industrys, http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_74&product_id=62
Sorry for the late reply btw, work has been womping up on me.

@Flinty, thanks for the further explanation about clearing the hands out. My dremel has a round ball attachment thing I'll get a picture of so instead on drilling holes in the gun body you just add alittle weight and it carves the perfect "hand open" semi circle.

@Ghostmaker, Thanks! To be honest though I'm horrible at painting and I'm scared to try because I know I won't do them justice. I've been looking at commission painters believe it or not.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, work is killing me but I'll try to have something in the coming week.

Very nice conversions overall but please mate do something about those grenade launchers, they are so oversized.
