Ive recently started a Imperial Armour tank company because LRBT are epic!
but looking at the cost, well what can i say, i'm a student - its never going to happen. so ive started trying to make them from scratch!
the idea is to do it in plasticard but all ive done so far is mock up a paper model to give me an idea of what, how and the scale.
i'll post the pics of this now while i'm cracking on with the plasticard model, its really lacking in detail but its just to see if my templates would work.
Stay tuned for updates in few days hopefully

one really really really annoying thing is ive lost my feking green stuff!grrr! and i doubt i'll be able to get some till atleat tuesday, which sucks 'cus i cant smooth it all down:(
i also did the cover for the engine, not beautifully but it'll do

*scratches head* why am i not subbed to this thread??? hmmm... i know i saw this already... bet i didn´t leave a comment and so it got a bit forgotten...sorry mate^^
looks good... the sides look rather promising... all these lil cuts that takes a true enthusiast to see it through! the basic shape is even now very recognizable...
what will you take for the treads? will you scratchbuilt them too or get some bitz to make them?...
anyways... good luck with that build!
cheers, vik

Cheers man! yeah it does, glad some one realizes
yeah iv'e been thinking about the treads, scratch building good ones with even simple interlocking spurs will be time consuming, but other than some far to small airfix ones my minds come up a blank, any ideas...anyone?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
actually yes... i have quite some ideas...
you might follow my footsteps and do the treads i did from cardboard on my second tank...tho they are very brutalist looking...go to my gallery called imperial armor...
or you could follow shasolenzabis lead and make your treads after his work...he has no differently named galleries tho so this might take a while to reach his self made ones from plasiccard...
42839
Post by: stonned_astartes
Are they the overlapping treads with a curve in them? i remember looking at them now...yesss, i may steel the overlapping idea if thats ok. And were might i find this shasolenzabis???

WOW! you weren't kidding, i gave it a brief look i willl admit, but i think i wont buy tread, to poor.
yes good idea... might help me with some *hushed tones* 'rivets'.
just drawn out two heavy tank ideas, will post them on the morrow wen Ive gone over them in pen, for now though bed!

I also second that the LRBT is awesome. (thumbsup)

Cheers! i did put alot of effort in to them., good, your right! LRBT ftw!
well i planned a Armored company, (posted somewere) i think its got about 9 russes of assorted variants,
the question is weather i'll have the will power to build 8 of them! (got a gw kit).
and sorry about vik, my fault, i may have alerted him to it for help
40213
Post by: DiDDe
ofcourse you have the will power to build 8 of them!
Have you seen mxwllmdr's work? he's making 8 warhound titans at the same time.
why don't you make the rest of the russes at the same time too? in that way it might be easier to handle the will power.. instead of finishing one and knowing that you have to do a couple of more.
eigther way.. whatever you do, don't forget the rivets!

Production line way, thought about it, but need to perfect the design 1st before i mass produce loads and yeah i'm subbed, its epic!
ohh Emperor, i think i may ban talk of rivets on the thread before it starts

 oh well.
ok quick update, and tank concepts as promised.
addedsome hooks ok the front and put the engine on.
need to add the shell box and i cant do the exughts till i get some tubing:(
Thought ide explain my tanks, one is just because i think one punisher cannon isnt enough, so i gave it two, and two heavy bolter's to bulk it up, was thinking land raider sort of rules? not supper heavy but i dont know. the second is a heavy transport with 4 heavy bolter at the front with an assault door. also it has a troop firing platform for 10 men, which, if its stationary that turn, can stand on top and use the two heavy stubbers while using the protection of the amour and cant be engaged in combat.

cool update mister! the tank looks really good...with the vent attached...
your drawings however look really super! tho i am not a fan of the lying eight shaped tank treads... four seperate treads? saw that in some anime i think... but not really my style but expertly drawn nevertheless! the more classic aproach of the tracks on the other sketches are more up my alley... and i think with some extra punisher power you can never go fail^^... heck i love the gatling system way to much^^

Thank you, its getting there!
Sadly i dont think i'll be doing to much today, to hung over
been thinking about more tanks though and looked around on the web for some vehicles, might do a few more idea on paper.
thanks about the drawings, yeah...i think it looks futuristic though, which i think ig should have more of.
yeah, love gatling guns, been thinking about doing some Vulcan style ones for my Ig as heavy weapons.

all i could be bothered to do today
ones a transport, based on a real apc, much like the rhino, the second is abit like a ball preditor with to assullt cannons and a multimelta.
other one is heavy weapons troopers, enjoy! Automatically Appended Next Post: come to think about it now, they atchally look alot like sm tanks:(

Post by: Viktor von Domm
nice concepts... i couldn´´t do much hobbywork myself too...
so in essence you want a bit more modern looking look for your IG? hmm...more modern even than today´s tanks or something in the lines of nowadays tanks? the rhino counts as looks like the M113 a bit... which is a good thing!^^
how do you think you wanted to rivet these designs then? or maybe at all even? with more modern looking tanks you could even skip this...not that i would suggest this in any serious way
42839
Post by: stonned_astartes
Cheers!
some wear between supper modern and today, so sort of a moderate modern marginally futuristic
...errm :/ if i got one of those hole punch things when i have some cash, but atm i don't think i can be bothered to rivet :s
really misjudged the size of the turret, and now i'm really not sure how to design the turret. will up load a pic in a sec ...
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well if you are not too keen on making a paintjob too early then you can get away with the riveting for now... but adding them post painting seems not really a good strategy to me^^
looking forward to new pic then^^

Post by: stonned_astartes
like i said i was in NO mood for this today, but i wanted progress......
now i dont even like the shape, help please dakka
1
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well the shape is a bit complicated... too big for once...and i would ahve made the side walls more angled if i was you...so in essence i woul pry away the top of the thing and cut of a quarter of an inch from the rim on each side...thus making the top the same shape but smaller and this would create and angular look... not that coffin shape it currently has...
did i make myself clear on that?tech speak is not my best part of my language skills^^
42839
Post by: stonned_astartes
yes. yeah you made your ideas perfectly clear. well its better than my technical language skills in german?
sound like a good idea, might change the whole shape though:/
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well... changing it completley... what will it be then? if i could make a suggestion... the longer sidepanel... the one that builds the peak up front... i would shorten that at least for a third... later on i would attach fuel barrels at the back of the turret... for realism it is rather stupid but might look good...
42839
Post by: stonned_astartes
yep, defantly shorten it...and add something on the back, cheers >>>bed

2nd page, feth yeah!
my hand had the shakes earlier from using a strimmer :s ut it calmed down and i finished the turret
...and now i stuck the track sides on, thing i did a decent job, it starting to look like a white russ, proper proud
all i have left to do is the treads, exughts, smooth it down with green stuff & paint it! XD
what' ch think guys?

Npoe for the muzzle break, I recommend a file, and make some "vents" for the Battle cannon, you have some very interesting ideas, I would avoid the figure eight treads.

well if you have styrene rods then just slice´em! that is always a good start... or if you want more rounded rivets then you could drill small holes in the armor plates and add small beads as rivets... and shaso did many of his creations with PVA glue rivets...

2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
Yes, he salvaged a spare rhino cupola for his tanks, I do the same thing on my scratch built beauties.
Now to see the rivets,,,,Oh yeah, I used the small tips from superglue like on Zap-a -Gap on a PVA glue bottle small enough to fit it and learned how to size the glue almost liie a candy maker in that PVA rivet method!
