I have a story to tell:

In every ES game I've Played, my first character has Always been Sol Tar: Albino Argonian Vampire Assassin.

Skyrim he had a Very Interesting journey: Killing the Emperor, becoming a Guardian of Nocturnal, Slaying Paarthurnax(Rule one of Skyrim: All Dragons are bastards), Defeating Alduin(ADAB), and Liberating Skyrim(Felt silly saying For the Empire after killing the emperor).

So as He sits in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, He wonders... Why did I save the World and why did I weaken the Empire as I did. Well If the DLC really gives us a crazy evil option (Something that has been missing from Elder Scrolls games since at least Morrowind) to drag the world into eternal Darkness, He will have his reason. It may be a Tzeentchian "Just as Planned" reason, but a much weakened Empire would make dooming the whole world a lot easier. And to top it off, He Already has an Elder Scroll.

I'm also looking forward to the Super Vampire form thing.

Crossbows and Mounted combat (bit pointless) aren't quite enough for me, i hope it adds a few more gameplay additions beyond the weird Hover Vampire.

I don't need any gameplay additions at all, all I want from this expansion is new places to explore and stories to play though.

Definitely +1 on that

The vampires in the standard game are pretty appalling, basically anaemic weaklings who get killed by the sun, so this update will be interesting!

Gives them time to find glitches that PS3 and PC players can then exploit. Otherwise can't wait to put crossbow bolts into a vampire like a regular Van Helsing. In fact who wants to bet that a Van Helsing clothing mod comes out soon after the DLC does if not earlier.

It looks like there will be the Vampire faction and the anti-vampire faction. But the vampires look like they're getting beefed in this, which frankly they need. There's so many down sides to being a vamp in Oblivion/Skyrim and so few upsides its silly.

Mounted ranged combat (bows/crossbows/magic) look like they'll be much more effective than mounted melee. I do agree that the video was a poor explanation though.

What?

Features that make no sense NOT being in a TES game are finally being introduced and you don't want them?

You do realize Crossbows are real, right? And that being able to swing weapons on a horse is real?

Nevermind.

I'm confused too, just because something hasn't been in a previous game doesn't mean it's un-TES-y.

Are the dragon shouts or radiant quests that skyrim introduced un-TES-y?

I almost spit out my coffee

I thought everyone complained when they took those OUT of TES?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spear

and under the combat page

Crossbows

Crossbows are far less common - there being only two varieties found in the entire game. They have the advantage of quicker firing rate, since their minimum and maximum damages are the same, so you don't need to pull all the way back the way you do with all other weapons. One disadvantage of crossbows is the rarity of their ammunition. You will be mostly dependent on the vendors for your supply, because while bolts are found in the wild, they are never in great supply. Luckily, there are vendors that sell an unending supply of bolts.

Wait, unless there was some sarcasm there....

Crossbows? Awesome. Although my wood elf would never bring himself to use such a vulgar weapon.

I'll give it two more games at most before we see blackpowder weapons. Which could be interesting.

Mounted combat looks good for bows. Always wanted to do the samurai things of riding past while peppering people with arrows.

That vampire form looks interesting too, might have to become one just so as I can kill some werewolves while saying to myself "still a better lovestory..."

Doubt it. As said Morrowind had Spears (and Halberds), Crossbows, and even Throwing Weapons (like throwing knives)

Apparently through the hundreds of years between that a skyrim, everyone forgot how to make those.

In fact from Oblivion to Skyrim, they got rid of Short Swords and Long Swords. Its now just swords (And not to mention getting rid of chainmail and mythril)

Beth is funny when it comes to weapons

Basically each iteration reduces options and folds others together.

Yup, Beth unfortunate is all about getting the majority

By TES6 I bet they'll kill off a type of magic and get rid of daggers. Maybe even skip Ebony or some other type of armor/weapon type

Yeah morrowind had some crazy weapons. I remember stealing a bunch of Daedric Throwing stars off a table in the House Redoran Guildhall pretty early into my playtime, never used them. Crossbows were REALLY rare in Morrowind IIRC i remember being shot by a wood elf with one in the telvani tower thing.

Is the castle thingy in the trailer on an island or in the border mountains somewhere?

IMO for TES 6 they should remove the 'Health' option during a level up, leaving stamina and magic. Giving an automatic ten HP every level will encourage more experimentation. Also dotn be surprised if the individual skills are replaced with warrior/thief/Mage skills and Swords/Bows/destruction/restoration etc existing only as perks.

Aren't long swords just two-handed swords now?

Sometimes its necessary and good, but sometimes its just chaff, however people did get mildly upset at the fact that they removed the unarmed skill. I however didn't care because the only time I'm unarmed is when I accidentally launch both my bow and arrow at an enemy.

But there was no dynasty during Lu Bu's time The Three Kingdoms were just that three kingdoms no dynasties. Also "Chinese dynasty" doesn't make any sense you have to name a specific dynasty like Song, Sui, Tang, Han, Jin, and so on they're all chinese dynasties. Also Chuck Norris is lame.

Someone told me that they may be adding a "plastic surgeon" in the Ratway, has anybody else heard this? I dearly hope so, my characters hair has always annoyed the hell out of me. Why we couldn't change our hair, warpaint and "dirtiness" level in the core game eludes me. While im on the subject, why don't games like Skyrim and Mass Effect (the ones that force you to have the same appearance the whole game) allow you to play the tutorial, THEN give you an option to change your characters appearance if you aren't happy with it. I had to go through the whole beginning sequence (PLUS the 15min comic strip) in Mass Effect 2 three times because my Shepard came out looking completely different than what he looked like on the creation screen.

They do have that sort of thing in Fallout 3 and FNV, actually.

Fallout 3 there's this scientist guy who specializes in face reconstruction, and in FNV there's this machine in the Old World Blues DLC that changes your appearance iirc.
And they are both Beth games, so you might see your plastic surgeon in skyrim afterall.

Elder Scrolls V Skryrim: Dawnguard DLC. Vampire Apocalypse?  @ 2012/06/08 18:00:52

Post by: Wyrmalla

Changing a character's face in Skyrim isn't actually that much of an issue. All you do is open the race menu with the console and edit it, no big deal. Sure Xbox users couldn't do this, but its neat that Beth have bothered to include this frequently used command in the actual game (though they probably won't allow you to change race due to it requiring additional scripts due to it messing with your stats).

It'd be nice for them to add in an expansion that just adds things to the game like items and creatures, like Obscuras Oblivion Overhaul, though I expect them to be doing this in little bits along with their DLCs. A Broken Steel style DLC however would be great (hey they might even bother to implement the dragons destroying things feature, ie after the DLC's install a village from the base game that didn't do much goes Helgen), though I don't know if the changes that the main quest reflect would have much bearing on the world in the short term. ....Though one thing that should be on Beth's list aught to be a Thalmor/Great War related DLC. These guys need some more spotlight, youknow reflecting just how much power they have, or just how fractured Tamriel's become since the Oblivion Crisis (I've always hated how disconnected the newer Elder Scrolls games provinces have felt from each other, I mean Skyrim has barely any elements from elsewhere in the world like news or just generic items like food, clothes, weapon styles). I guess all these things are just hopes and if anything user created content, but it would be nice if Beth went out of their way to include some lore buffing DLC. ^^

Oh and an upcoming DLC, spears definitely. They've shown that they can implement new weapon animations and have been inspired by the modjam, so there you go. =D

The 'plastic surgeon' idea is good, hope it comes true. Look forward to a primitive Medievel Sex change. Hopefully you can keep your crudely severed man bits in some 'bloodied rags' (Of which i already have a large collection).

Minor gameplay changes i think would rock:
Stealth Roll backwards and sideways.
Whirwind sprint Backwards and sideways.

I kinda want to see something done with the Vigil of Stendarr. I was originally hoping the Vigil would be the Anti Vampire Faction in Dawnguard.

But that's a whole faction right there that does literally gak all. Even less interaction than the Bard's Guild. I think the only quest they have involves one of them being Worfed by Molag Bal.

Also: I came across this idea today.

Bard's guild. Vampire Lord shapeshift, two handed Axes, Raise Dead Spells, invisibility spells, and Fire Spells. We can make Marceline The Vampire Queen. In Skyrim.

/excitement

Another idea!

Lighting Spells, Crossbows, Vampire Lord= (Close) Abel Nightroad character.

I'm loving this DLC the more I think about it.

With the addition of the ability to turn into a vampire lord, you can create characters that look like famous vampires.
Possibly missing the fact that vampire lords can't use weapons, only their hands.

Warhammers are already a weapon type though so its easy to make some new ones. Throwing weapons are a bit harder I suppose to animate and etc

Uh yeah....right...? Meh, oh no its not that difficult actually. There's already at least three mods out there that include working throwing weapons (the one handed animations work quite well with them), so I don't see why Bethesda couldn't go and stick in some throwing axes, knives or spears, etc (and with Fallout they just adapted existing animations anyway). They've included new animations for crossbows, and probably'll be adding spears at some point too, so maybe we'll see throwing weapons at some point. It really isn't that difficult to make a load of new weapons for Skyrim, armours perhaps due to the need for variants due to sex and size, but all you need for swords, etc is a blood wrapping (thus why there's mods out there that contain loads of new items). ^^

No I get that. But whenever Abel Nightroad was In Crusnik Form, He did not use his Gun(or in this Case Crossbow). He used his Crazy awesome Crusnik Power.

IIRC, same with Marceline, She hasn't use her Axe Bass (Once again, IIRC) when in her giant Bat monster form.

Yep, I am

Because I'm lacking in english rhetorical ability, I can't exactly write down the thoughts that floating around my head, so in a nutshell

Skyrim has more cons than pros for me. And some aspects (not really the game, but the business policy and etc) are annoy me. They didn't go bankruptcy without my money so I sleep well at night

It's a shame but i never played morrowind...

Just one word: steam. I never had a steam account, and i think i never going to have. Regional lock, pff, censorship/boycott in the 21th century?! ( oh well, and they sell games twice the price than my local gamestore) Second i'm more like a modder Than a gamer, "you can download construction kit through your steam account" well, just lol. But this is just only my opinion, nobody have to accept it, but i know way too more people, who thinks the same. My first post was half joke, half serious, the serious part is that i strongly disagree with this bp. Peace

I doubt it dude, when I bought the Oblivion expansion (Shivering Isles and KotN) on disc, I was able to use it unlimited times, so my friends essentially had it for free. I think they wanted to stop this.

I haven't seen an expansion on disc since. I have seen GOTY editions of Fallout etc but they just come with however many codes in the box just to download all of the DLC. I understand it's a pain for someone with a slow internet or not one at all.

Does anyone know what time it will arrive on the marketplace today?

Made a save before I chose which faction I wish to side with... idk about this vampire stuff.

It's interesting, but I'm annoyed that I can't do... ANYTHING besides activate levels and open doors... No looting, nothing. Same reason why I disliked the werewolf.

Will probably see this through though... who knows.

Also did anyone else have this issue:
I spent forever searching for the cave to get over to the Dawnguard place. I followed my map to the area, and it led me to a mountain that I couldn't climb... Eventually I stopped tracking some minor quest and followed the quest tracker a little ways north... Here was my dilemma last night:

This is after I followed the quest tracker on my map. My location on the map is the where I am where the second pic was taken...

So it says I'm nowhere near the place I need to be...

But!

Here I am...

Walk forward from the second image. The area where you "enter" the cave isn't as close as most of the others, a mistake I made from horseback as I got to close and had to step back then in again.

As for a review the vampire lord is very powerful, and some of the new creatures are cool. Crossbows don't feel that powerful and I can get more out of my glass bow. Now for a lower level charachter they seem ok, or as a rollplaying weapon. The ability to make dragon bone weapons and arrows in general is really nice. All in all I like it so far but the lord form is annoying having to constantly switch back and forth. Some of the new skeletons are actually tough (then again I'm sneaky and I can't really sneek up on them.

Got this last night.

The two things that stand out so far are the crossbows and the camera angles when you change into a vampire lord.

I was given a crossbow, first thing I did was visit a blacksmiths and now I have a legendary crossbow that does more damage than the Nightingale Bow. Hopefully there'll be crossbows made from something other than steel later on.

I hate the camera angle change when you transform into a vampire lord. At times it's pretty hard to see properly, I also don't like the fact it puts you into 3rd person view when you change back. Is it the same for werewolves?

I've also heard that people aren't happy with the legendary dragons seeing as they apparently won't spawn until your character is level 75 or higher.

I really like this add on, i've only done the Vampire quest so far as I don't have a character that would be suitable for Heavy Armour/Vampire slaying.

I've started a new character to specifically take advantage of being a vampire (Dark Elf) and have just finished the quest to get the 'Vampire Artefact'. I plan on refusing Lord Harkon's gift of the Vampire Lord this time though, while it is incredibly powerful you can't really do anything in that form. Not sure if he will kill me if I refuse. I'm pretty disappointed that the Vampire Skill tree isn't in with the other skill trees and that Vampiric Grip can't be used by a regular Vampire.

Spoiler:
Seeing the Snow Elf is pretty cool, and even cooler when you get the bow and his armour

As for blocking out the Sun...
Spoiler:
You can do it if you get Serena to coat Elven arrows in her blood, the major drawback to this is Vampires and Gargoyles can appear in towns that you are in and potentially kill quest NPCs

Gotta say the quest that starts in Darkfall cave and ends with getting the fancy bow is IMO the best quest i have ever done in an elder scrolls game.

What made it good for me was a combination of things:

I had to switch to torches to see in the Falmer Parts (i thought i already had candlelight ).

Also at low levels with fairly vanilla gear (was only lvl 22 when i started it, albeit a very focused character (Block 75, One handed 80, Light armour 60*, resto 45 along with some one handed buffs)) Falmer are Pretty darn challenging. Their warriors are pretty handy with a shield and their bows do a tonne of damage. Was having to juggle my Arrow deflections, Vegetable soup fueled bashes/power attacks and Become ethereal-delayed fast heal (An indsipensable tactic for melee fighters, as long as you don get two-handed fisted you are practically invincible).

The Neato environment, the falmer canyon and glacial crevice felt really actioney and swashbuckling with all the narrow walkways and plunging cliffs.

The creepy atmosphere in the temple with all the frozen falmer.

Serana was a good companion, didnt steal any kills (looking at you Uthgerd the Unbroken ) but her ice spikes were really handy (mainly for making the falmer glow bright white in the dark lol).

The only let down was the baby dragon duo fight was a tad easy.

*I Like to run fast okay! Also the jangling noise heavy armour makes really annoys me.
