And by name I mean your internet handle. Some people dont really think about it, while others (like myself) seem to revolve around our names. Im just curious who you are, and how crazy you get over your internet name?
Mine was given to me a about 10 years ago by a friend of mine, ever since then, its just been the name to use. Even when I cant use KingCracker Ill use a variation of it like TheKingCracker or BrandonCracker and so on, lately its been ComradeKC. Either way, its pretty much who I am, so much so.....
Ive had it on vehicles of mine for years.

The only place people call me Chowderhead is here on Dakka. Everywhere else, I'm Felsi.
But I've come to embrace the Chowderhead persona. Also, New Yorkers make the worst chowder. Who the hell puts tomato in it? Eww!

I will agree with that, chowder is no place for tomatoes. Like my wife's family puts elbow noodles in their chili.Who the hell does that?!

Post by: AustonT
Well AustonT is in fact my name so I'm fairy true to it. The name MOST people on the internet know me by is TitanTerry, which is from warhams. We were playing a 6 "table" set up on the floor of the dayroom with a couple feet between boards. I stepped on one of my Roomie's Blood Claws which exploded into it's constituent parts. That's when Titan started, my legendary clumbsyness made it stick. I managed to slip and fall in our FLGS taking no less than 5 tournament boards with me (dislodged not destroyed). My other internet handle is HobbitsFeet, which is a description more than a handle. Also my callsign for years. I use my handles when meeting people from the interwebs, other than that they are mostly from RL anyways.

I also have mostly used my internet name for meeting people. Im a member of a local mud bogging club (even though I havnt had a truck in years) and anytime Ive met others for trading or whatever, its always been "You KingCracker" or "Your KC right?" Yessir I yam

I've never had someone walk up to me before and call me Chowderhead. That would be just creepy.
When I was at Dakkacon, the only reason they knew I was Chowderhead was because I was the only teenager there!

When I met my brother in law for the first time our ladyfolk introduced us we shook hand and said the perfunctory things. Then he stops, turns his head to the side and says "Are you _____" using my aircraft call sign from OIF III. Apparently we had a rather heated exchange over the radio in the sandbox (I had a lot of those, he apparently did not). He's a good sort, but that was an awkward moment.

It really depends on the place. I have a small range of aliases that I use frequently, and I have more that I only use once.
This name here came into being many years ago back when I was still playing WoW. I've "recycled" it for a forum-based 40k RPG, and from that point onward have used this in any 40k- and most fantasy-based forums. For specific settings, including multiplayer computer games and dedicated forums for them, I often tend to set up unique character names that sound like they'd "fit in".
I do identify with the frequently used aliases, though I do my best to keep them separated.

Post by: htj
I use my internet handle exclusively, but frequently use the abridged because the full version tends to draw ire from people who misinterpret it as religion-bashing. The full form is harderthanjesus. Always written in lower case, where possible.
It was originally an extract from a favourite quote of mine from a comic book - 'I am sexier than Buddha and harder than Jesus.' That's the English slang term hard, meaning tougher / better at fighting.
It's become quite dear to me because, well, I'm a skinny guy who tends to lose at most games he plays. I find that defining my combative ability as being able to take the man whose actions in a fight would be to turn the other cheek fits quite well. I've used it so extensively now that it's not just a name I call myself some places on the internet. It's as much my name as my real name is.
So yeah, pretty dedicated to it.

My username was something I made up on the spot when I signed on.
I think it's become a bit of a thing now, I'm often abbreviated to MGS (which I'm still hoping will be added to the dakka-dictionary... ) and when my wife and I go to dakkacons, we are universally known as 'the stompas'.

I have used Witzkatz for many years now, first as a LAN party nickname. I was sitting at my computer at a friend's house and, for some reason, thought of cat food...there's this one brand called "Whiskas", dunno if the Brits or Americans know the kind. It was a small step from "Whiskas" to "Witzkatz", which I thought sounded funny enough for a nickname. It roughly translates to "Joking Cat", by the way.
Before that, I was KartoffelCommander (potato commander) for quite a while. That one had rather strange origins...

Post by: Azza007
I have always been Azza007. Azza was a nickname given to me by a teacher that just stuck, real name is Aaron, and when I signed on to my first forum, the old GW boards, my dad created the account adding on the 007 for some reason. Since then I have pretty much kept to that. I have only tried couple of times to get rid, the first was the ridiculous mrcool when I was 13 on a drum forum. More recently I have gone by seawolfbill on some accounts what with my middle name being William. However I always seem to come back to my old Azza007, just become habit.

Post by: Gitsplitta
I guess "Gitsplitta" isn't the first reasonably well-known alias I've had... but like the other it was strictly used in the context of the circumstances in which it was born. So on 40k forums, if available... I always sign up as Gitsplitta. Outside of the forum/gaming world... not so much. Though people who know me first on the net may well continue to call me "Gits" in-person... which is fine. Git's personality and mine are identical (nearly... the web allows me to be a bit more cantankerous than I am in person)... so being called by two names that are effectively equal (from a self-awareness standpoint) is no big deal. It was a fairly spur-of-the-moment name I made up to log on with.. so there's no deep meaning or emotional attachment save what has developed during my time on Dakka.

I have used d-usa for at least 5 years now and it is for all effective purposes my online identity.
When I first started up my blog that long ago I made that my domain as a tongue in cheek reference to my dual citizenship (d=deutsch=german) (usa=american).
I then started using that domain as my email (whatever)@d-usa.(blahblahblah).
Then I started using d-usa as my IRC handle and my forum handle. My biggest variation is when the software doesn't allow for special characters, then I just use dusa.

Post by: chromedog
Chromedog started out as an RPG in-joke in my group.
Starting with an inadvertent mistake with a name (wrote "chromeDOG" instead of "chromeGOD" - it was in a Werewolf:The apocalypse game, referring to the Glasswalker hacker character whose digital web avatar was of a chrome crinos (classic half man/wolf wolfman). So the chromedog was also appropriate, if derogatory.
I have white hair (have had it since I was 17 or so - my hair just went that way). In my current group, I'm the oldest, so am seen as an "old dog" and the white hair (NOT 'SILVER'. It's 18% neutral grey and does not stand out against a "neutral" photo background).
That and I'm lazy. On most forums, I'm known as chromedog. It's just easier. People who meet me whom I previously only knew from forums, associate the nick with the hair.

Ironically, I actually answer to my real name (rather common name or at least I believe) less then I answer to "Norse." I'm not from Norway or any scandinavian country (unfortunately ), but my family has some good ol' viking blood that I inherited right and proper! I'm a definite textbook viking and proud of it! I've went as far as having it put on some clothing and was going to put it on my tag if it wasn't so expensive. Anyway, I've never been referred to as Norserune, but almost everyone in my circle of friends says Norse before they resort to my name. I'm deeply attached to it. Chances are if you've ran into this name it was me, but it HAS been taken on occasions, then I add numbers of make something strange like tehNorseman or NorseDudesman.

Hah, that is awesome Kingcraker.
I go by Galacticdefender on pretty much every site I am an active participant of. My airsoft "callsign" is Galactic, and I will probably have a bumpersticker that says "Galactic Defender" on it, right next to my "My other car is a heavy support choice" sticker. I pretty much just chose the name because Science Fiction is pretty much my life , and I like to go with the "good side of things" generally. Except for 40k where there is no good side.
I don't "own" my own vehicle yet (I drive my dad's truck), but when I do, I'll have my name on my liscense plate most likely.
I also generally use HAL 9000 as an avatar (usually with the same quirky expression), but sometimes I'll use other stuff like the Tanith 1st badge. (here I wouldn't dare change my avatar, because I recognize most users by theirs, and I assume others do the same)
Although I have thought of changing my internet name to Sun Stealer, but it would be too difficult to change everything, and I've just had Galacticdefender as a username for so long.

I've used five, but MDS has become my favoured one, and one I'd use elsewhere if I was to suddenly join other 40K forums these days (although that seems unlikely.) My original name online was Captain Reaper as I had a Scythes army when I first came online. Later I switched to fuzzy spiral, which was based off a npc in Werewolf the Apocalypse, still my xbox LIVE login as well. I then switched to Master Zhang Liao after getting into Dynasty Warriors, and then MDS on Seer, before bringing it here. I also use my Main WoW character Shaedrah on WoW related boards, just as its something that connects me to the game. I've also used the same name in other MMO's, and will be using it in Guild Wars 2 as well, as its become an sorta in joke that if there is a Hunter class equivilent, she takes it, took it as my name in D3 as well with a Demonhunter.

This is just the name I used to use on Counterstrike. I've grown fond of it now, mind, and use it for other stuff. I don't know that I'd have it on a t-shirt, but I could definitely see myself wearing one with a fetching picture of a large sea-bird on it, fo' sho'.

I've gone through a few since I first started out on the Interwebs.
Before about 2005, I went through Handles like candy until I started up on a F2P game called PhantasyRPG. From about 2005 to 2008 I was a Mod and later writer, (then Mod again after some complications came up) under the Name Karzon. When My old Computer crashed and I went months without the internet, I just never felt like logging back on, but kept my MSN friends (mostly other staff members) To the people I still talk to from PhantasyRPG, I still go by Karzon.
For about a year after that, I played WAR as a Witch Hunter by the name Alaglan(better known on Vent as ALG) and became good friends with a bunch of 40k players. But they eventually all left WAR and we lost touch.
Then About the time WotLK came out for WoW, I was a Dwarven Hunter that went by the name Diril. Most of the people I played WoW with I knew IRL, and we all pretty much started going by our Ingame Handles.I did that until the Pre Cata patch came out and ruined Hunters. The ones I'm still in touch with call me Diril.
Sometime between starting and stopping WoW, I finally started to use the Internet to help me not suck as much at 40k and Joined ATT and Dakka Dakka under the name IurTaeMont (well Iur_tae_mont here), this one has, to date, Stuck with me pretty well, It being the only name to be used more than once (On Dakka, LoL ,Minecraft ,Smogon ,the 3DS gaming, and Xbox Live). Every once in a while I get someone that called me Iur IRL, but most of the time, when people actually call me by this handle, they call me Lur instead because of my spelling fail.
Anyways, If you actually read the whole post, You earned a Fishy Stick.

I would assume your natural suavity and charisma will shine upon them through the internet and they will know you by the trail of your posts... or you could just tell them...

Mine came from when I set up my Yahoo mail account. I was working for a friend restoring a Sherman tank, built in 1944. I have always loved tanks so it was a natural extension. I used it as my first gamertag on XBox live, used it as my handle on the Flavor Blasted Goldfish forum, The Universal Gamer Group forum, Forum Ninja, put an @ in front it is my twitter tag, it is my blogspot address... The only difference is now my XBox tag is StormLegion2k. All across the country people refer to me as Tread. I have had it on a T-shirt (a memento from an IRL meet in Vegas) but the custom license plate has been taken...

My now widely used internet alias was not conceived upon joining this site, and I would create a new account if I wasn't obsessed with the number of posts I have.

My real life name is Alexander Douglass
I liked to use variations of that name, if not the same one. Such as Alexzandvar, or my last name in Celtic: Darkwater.
EVE Online name: Alexzandvar Douglass
Dakka Name: Alexzandvar
Steam name: Lord Militant Alexander
Warcraft 3 online name: Lord_Alexander
I like to use any name or collection of words followed by "Dar", I started this trend with my first WoW character who I named after a trip to France "Nondar". Recently Iv used Vadar for most of my characters.
WoW main name: Vadar
Skyrim character name: Vadar
Fallout name: Vadar

Not very, Lucio (and its misspelling, the 'i' key was stuck, Luco) are only on Dakka and Heresy. I really have no attachment to it and would change it to my normal Ralij if I had the chance.

Lets just say I had an older master whom gave me it, he pronounced it as Rybon (Ri'bon). It was (at lest I thought) your master gives you your name, kind of stuck so I use it. That's about as much as i'm going to say with out going into details and having the Modquision looking at me funny

Post by: Blacksails
I've always gone by Blacksails or TwoToneWyvern. Blacksails was my first handle and the one I go to by default, but for online games, its normally taken and I despise having a handle with a number in it. As far I know, I'm the only TwoToneWyvern on the internet, and you'll see my under that name for things like XBox live, deviantart, and some online games.
I'm pretty attached to them, and they hold some meaning for me. Thought about getting some custom plates with my handle on them, or at least a tattoo that references/alludes to my one/both of my handles. I just recently retired my old hotmail e-mail account that I used for non-professional stuff (game subscriptions and what-not) and claimed a gmail account with my handle for future use.
Its a small part of who I am, and if you ever see a TwoToneWyvern, its probably me. There are many Blacksails' though, so it may not be me.
