Hello people, I'm new to this forum, I have a 15mm 40k project underway, starting with Blood angels, then Tyranids, Death Guard, Imperial guard, and Tau.
Disclaimer - these are for my own collection only and will not be sold or traded, I am not endorsing this as an alternative to 28mm 40K, as the work required is extream, its just a personal challange for my modeling skills, and I thought this project may be of interest to some here.
I have a blog that has a lost of posts on this project already, so I will just add a update here, Click the link for more WIP and finishe pictures.

Haha! These are awesome
And it means a 2000pt battle on a 6x4 table actually makes slightly more sense. Would love to see more. I would think that the old school Rhinos would actually be "truescale" for these 15mm models...

Really cool idea. How long does each marine take to complete? What size force are you going for? Also will you be doing and vehicles? Looking forward to seeing what you produce!
Checking out the blog now.

Post by: Imperial Templari
Thanks guys,
Size of force - I was considering doing a full company, plus some death company and terminators, but I think the force will be as follows
2 X Tac squad in Rhinos
1 X Dev squad in Rhino
1 X vet assault squad in a Rhino
1 X Assault squad in Rhino
1 X DC Squad in Rhino
1 X DC Squad in JP
1 X Assault squad in JP
1 X Sang guard in JP
1 X Assault Terminator squad 4 with TH and SS 1 with LC
1 X Tac erminator squad
2 or 3 Baal Preds
I will do some land raiders and Dreds (not sure how many)
Characters will be
Dante in JP
Tycho
Lemartes in JP
Mephiston
a Librarian in Terminator armour
I will make a master of the vehicles and cast up what I need, so this will take me some time.

Hi two Spartan - yes 5c Aus, I have a big bag of them, and base all my 15mm figs on them.

More cool stuff! If anything the jets maybe look too skinny. But at 15mm no one will be able to tell. Good work!

This is really interesting project, good luck with it.
As a general note, I think some sharpening on the edges and corners of the GS work would add some sharpness/crispiness to the models (I know it's not that easy/fast to do)
Otherwise loving them, especially that chaplain is looking mighty cool.
Keep it up

Hi guys, whats next for the 15mm Blood Angels? I am working on a veteran assault squad in jump packs, but there is so much work required in them that I need a break, and I want to do something a little easier, I bought some of Mad robots jump troopers a while ago and have yet found a use for them, they are really nice figures but are on the large side, and I think they will make perfect scout troops for the Blood Angels, and with little conversion, I will need to get rid of the jump pack, add shoulder armour and a couple of other little details, here is a comparison pic with Khurasan 15mm fig, the weapon looks like a shot gun, so I will have 5 with shot guns, 4 snipers, and 1 squad leader.

The purity seals on the Lemartes look really good. Nice detail there.
How long does each marine take?
Also what is that Transport on the header on your blog?? Is that for 15mm 'Alien' games? Very cool
59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi Zwan1one, each marine takes some work, because I have to cut away a fair bit of the original fig, then I have to wait for each layer of green stuff to dry before adding more, not sure how long it takes all up. The yello vehicle is a converted Matchbox sno plow for Aliens setting, check my blog, I have some really nice Xenos and colonial marines.

Are you going to extend the barrel on the sniper? The studded shoulder pad on the assault marine looks cool. I image a fairly difficult detail to get right.
When do think you'll start the next army?

Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi guys, have been kept busy with real life for the past 2 weeks, so no real progress with the 15mm Blood Angels, however I have picked up some Eureka 25mm NSL power armour suits for conversion to 15mm Blood Angel terminators, these will undergo heavy conversion, I will cut off the shoulder armour attached to the body and the face visor, square off the top of the torso, add vents to the rear of the torso, add shoulder armor, add eagle to the chest, add helmets, add a storm bolter, and rounded knee armour, add other detail and doodads, I have 10 of these to convert, there will be 3 with Hammer and shield, 2 with lightening claws, 3 with storm bolters, 1 with a chain gun or heavy flamer, and a squad leader with storm bolter and power sword, might also add a chain fist or 2 in there.

I've been watching you with these guys and just don't know what to say.....they're great. Most people are trying to make their marines bigger, I've toyed around with making midget marines, but you make them tiny. I'm just glad I don't have to paint them, my eyes are bad enough

Hi guys, I have a dilemma, I am working on making a land raider, my initial idea was using a Char B1 bis (green one) as a land raider and the Mk 4 (grey one) as a Leman Russ for my 15mm Imperial guard, heres my dilemma, the green one makes the better Land raider, but I think it may be to small, the grey one makes the better Leman Russ, but I think the bigger size would be better for the land raider, so which one should be which? What's your opinion, or should I look at other options? If I used the grey as a land raider, I would remove the rivets, but leave them on for a Leman Russ, also the direction the grey one faces would change depending on if it is a Leman Russ or land raider, both will have gun sponsons on the sides, and hull mounted heavy bolters at the front, check my blog for more Picts.

Legend has it the Russ was based upon the Char B1 Bis. Personally in this case I think the larger size is necessary for the Land Raider it should look a lot bigger than the Russ so I'd go for grey.

Post by: Imperial Templari
Yeah I agree, I'm one leaning towards scratch building the raider and using the grey for the Russ. Hi guys, here are my first 15mm Death Korps of Krieg conversions, i have also started on some auto cannons, for this army I will be using various WWI Germans and French, with head swaps from Peter Pig, and these Heer light troops from Trench 2114, these are almost perfect, except they only come in 5 poses, so I don't think I will get anymore, I will convert the rest of the army (which i plan on being quite large) this army will also have Armour, cavalry, artillery, Naval marines, and air support, all commits welcome, more pics on my blog.

Awesome blog! I'll be watching this!
that tank conversion from a Mark 1 tank is cool....where did you get the turret? I think you could actually use it as a leman russ but size-wise it might also be like a Valdor. Also what kit the tank?
Have you checked out the shapeways website? you can print out rhino-shaped apc's, and marine-shaped infantry as well for 15mm.
59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi Meade, thanks, the kit is the Airfix Mk IV, the turret is of the Airfix M113 fire support vehicle, I have checked the shapeways stuff, it is pretty good, I think I will buys some of their stuff, but will use the figures as armatures, and add more bulk and detail, I like their land speeders, and will get at least 4 of those, but the Rhinos will be a tad small for what I want, I think.

Hi guys, seems I'm wasting my time on this site, see how I go after this post, then may just let it die, here is a WIP veteran grenadier squad, these guys still have a bit of work to go, but they are coming along nicely, I'm thinking I will add a canister to the front of the gas mask, I wanted a squad that would stand out, so gave them bearskins to denote their elite status, can't wait to finish and paint these guys, heaps more Picts on my blog, all comments welcome.

sounds like a good plan! I didn't realize those rhinos were small, then again 40k rhinos (and marines) are also too small...
I've recently invested in a mound of figs from Rebel Minis, they've got the gas-masked infantry I like... and also pledged in the All Quiet on the Martian front kickstarter... wanting to homebrew my own 40k-ish 15mm battles.
Also looking for rulesets to use... there is a lot of alternative stuff out there for 15mm it's a bit hard to process at first...

That sand is more noticeable compared to the stuff on the Blood Angels. But i think it will work with the DKOK look.
There gas masks are really well done. I like how you achieve so much using only simple shapes to add a lot of detail. I'm not saying its easy but when you have a while regiment to sculpt then its effective.
Glad you are keeping this blog updated. Nice touch with the small blast craters. is that done with the end of a pencil?

Hi guys, the first squad of my 15mm DKoK army is done, I'm really happy with how these guys turned out, I'm undecided whether I should paint any numbers/markings on the shoulder armour, the dark red regimental facing colour on the turn backs/cuffs of the great coats will be duplicated on other squads and flags, this is the pallet of colours I will use for the army, except the Naval marines I plan on doing, I will substitute the fieldgrey with blue, and will give them sailors caps, the rest of the grunts will have picklehelms, lots more pics on my blog, all comments welcome.

Hi guys, sorry about the crap pics, here are my WIP Death Riders, the original figures were Napoleonic Wurtembergers, I wanted them to have czapkas (hats) so gave them head swaps with some surplus Polish infantry, the lances without fanions will have paper fanions added, any ideas on how to paint the horses? I want them to look a little creepy and unnatural, as they are hairless bio engineered organisms.

This is some really amazing work you are doing. As for the horses, you could probably paint them skin coloured as that is the colour of normal horses. The problem with this though is that it might look too odd. I would suggest colouring them brown/black as this would look more natural (well as natural as bio-engeneered horses can get). Also, are you going to add hairless tails to them as horses do have small tails (look at the FW DKOK).

Post by: Ragsta
Hey, mate, I saw your 15mm work on TMP and was delighted to see you post your work here! Because now I can say I love everything you've done with this project
Re. painting the horses, if you are keeping the riders the same colour scheme as the foot troops then I support painting them skin coloured - it would contrast nicely with the greys and browns and look rather unsettling!
Have to say I really like the basing style on the DKoK - did you push the sand into the milliput or glue it down?
Remember to post that Leman Russ when it's done, I really like it!

Wow, 3 responses, thanks guys, I'm going with the pink naked mole rat look for the horses, the riders will have a similar colour pallet as the Grenadiers, but with a different facing colour, and yes, I will add a small hairless tail, as well as some other detail on the rumps, the sand is just glued down.

Hi guys, here is my WIP 15mm DKoK Ogryn unit, TBH I am not really sure about these guys, I'm not sure if they are to big, if their heads are to big, if the helmets work, what do you think? Persist with these, keep them as is? Change their heads to a gas mask hood more like the second fig, with no helmet? Not sure the officer with the chain sword works either, all comment appreciated.

I have to say the giant pink mole rat horse's look really great. All the details you have added really bring life to them. Really successfull. Love their gas masks. The red eye lenses look almost like gems!
I don't think the ogryns are bulky enough. To tall and skinny. But I do like their helmets and masks. They possibly look to much like they are just regular 28mm troops.
I'll try to think of something helpful to say... Automatically Appended Next Post: Would it be better to use an ork as a base? I think they will also benefit from adding a lot of cybernetic implants and alterations like you did with the horses. These being krieg ogryns and all.

Hi Zwan, thanks mate, I agree, looking at my plastic orcs and planning.

I like the gas mask head without the helmet too - it implies a bald cranium for some strange reason. Maybe that's just cos I'm pretty bald :S
Also, if you avoid using helmets that's one less thing that makes them look less 'giant' and more 'Ogryn' if that makes any sense at all!!

Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi guys
These are still WIP, I have put the other Ogryns aside for the time being, and have started this new batch, using some GW plastic fantasy Orks for the basis of the conversion, I still have to some pouches, water bottles, bayonets etc, I think they are suitably ferocious looking, what do you think?

Hi guys
Progress on these has come to a screaming halt, I have come to a decision crisis, my intension was to paint these guys in the same colours as the previous DKoK troops, fieldgrey with dark grey armour, whilst painting, I am always looking on the net for inspiration, I have noticed a couple of IG. armies/figures with light turquoise colours that looked really good, so my dilemma, should I
1) pull my head in and stick to the current colour, fieldgrey/dark grey.
2) give just this unit light turquoise armour to make them a, little different (I'm a little worried they won't fit in) the uniform would stay fieldgrey.
3) make light turquoise the colour for all armour in the army (re paint the finish units) the uniform would stay fieldgrey.
I have to also say if I were to use turquoise, I would weather the hell out of it, and make I'd really beaten up.

Again you have convincingly transformed another unit into 15mm. Brilliant job. Such great quality across all the conversions.
The fantasy orcs really work well as a base. Their armour looks 'rough and ready' like something ogryns might wear. I particularly like the flamed ogryn who looks like he's burnt half his shirt off!

Just pondering how you could have possibly put that much detail into 15mm minis boggles my mind. What ruleset do you use when playing with these minis, if you ever play with them?
59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Thanks Zwan, Killy, there are several 15mm scifi rules sets, but there's no one in my area to game with, so I just enjoy the modelling side of the hobby.
WIP pics of my next unit, these guys will add a little variety to the army but will be treated as normal infantry, they are my own invention, the Kriegs Marine of Krieg, (a little like they USMC) their primary roles are creating planetary bridgeheads, once the bridgehead is being exploited by the regular DKoK units, they act as light infantry, in support of the regulars, they also defend Naval facilities and ships, and conduct defensive and offensive boarding actions.
As for painting, I have 2 ideas.
1) my preferred, white sailors cap with black band, navy blue pea jacket, with white bib (the square material on the back) white pants, black boots, fieldblue armour, brown webbing.
2) or, white sailors cap with black band, fieldblue pea jacket with white bib, fieldblue pants, brown webbing and boots, dark grey armour.
The figures are Blue moon WWI Germans with Peter Pig , Navy Heads.

Hi Zwan, actually I already have the figures I will use for stormtroopers planned, they will be much more heavily armoured, the Kriegs Marine will be much more specialised. But It's all really just an excuse to get a different uniform type in there.

Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi guys
Here is my WIP HQ squad, the 2 blue figures are conversions of some spare AB French Napoleonic officer figures, the helmet on the troopers will be the standard helmets for the regular troops, I was going to have the troops in picklehelms, and bought a heap of Peter Pig heads for the conversions, only to find they were way to small, so I will convert the blue moon WWI German heads, it fits with DKoK better anyway, the officers head is an old glory French cavalry head, I will hand paint the standard, all comments welcome, more pics on my blog.

That's a great miniature for the commander the pose really inspires. A few simple additions really make him a DKOK. Can't wait to see these and the kriegs marines painted up. Are you keeping the same colour scheme for the commander as the regular troops?

Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi Zwan, yes the same colour scheme as the other DKoK.
Hi guys
My first 2 Kriegs Marines squads are done, my favourites are the sergeants and the flames, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, let me know what you think, more pics on my blog.

Thank JR, the bases are pretty easy, shaped milliput, covered with sand. Automatically Appended Next Post: Hi guys
Painted the regimental flag for the 103rd kampfgruppe, named after my old unit, will start painting the command squad tomorrow hopefully, I have also been working on 3 Lamen Russ, need to pick up another turret, 1 will be a Vanquisher, 1 a punisher, and a standard Lamen Russ battle tank.

Hi guys.
Command squad finished, it's pretty dark here due to being overcast, so had to use a flash and the colours are a little washed out, pretty happy with how these guys turned out, I stuffed up the gluing of the flag and it is a little off centre, couldn't fix it, so it will have to do, have added a size comparison shot with the LRs for those who wanted one, all comments welcome, more pics on my blog.

Hi guys
My order of Wusuq and Star vikings from 15mm UK have arrived, they will become (along with some other figs) Death Guard plague marines, being Chaos Space Marines I want them to be a similar size as my Blood Angels, so I will need to stretch the body of most of them, then I will go to town with the GS, these figures will look very different then they do now, below are some shots of some of the figures before and after stretching, I get a good 3-4 mm extra hight after stretching, but it's a bit time consuming, looking forward to detailing these.
The heads Of the Wusuq will make great helmet less plague marines, they will also get a lot of bulking out with GS, i also received some of their scifi beastmen, these will be used in the traitor legion ranks, stay tuned, all comments welcome.

These plague marines are ready for paint, here are some better photos, I like how they turned out, primary colour will be rotten flesh green, and catachen green detailsthe same as my 28mm Death Guard, I will do more mutations and some head swaps with the next 10 marines, more pics on my blog, all comments welcome.

Hi guys
Some pics of my WIP 15mm Death Korps of Krieg heavy siege assault gun, which barrel do you think I should use? This is the Emhar. 1/72 Mk IV female, its already a little larger in length and width, but not hight, then the Airfix model, I have stretched and widened it, added 4 heavy flames for close support, i also left the side profile lozenge shape alone, as i had re shaped the airfix kits slightly, more pics on my blog, what do you think?

This is some absolutely amazing work. I love the idea and the execution is superb.
I think this is a really interesting concept. I think scaling down 40k would allow for it to be played in a more realistic (i know, not much of a word for a game with laser weapons and chainswords). A smaller scale would allow for a bigger board and allow the ranges for weapons/movement/charges/etc. to be scaled more appropriately. I'll really interested in this; I might have to try it out myself.
Keep up the good work!

Hi guys
The first batch of DKoK armour is getting close to the painting stage, I decided to base them, I like making little vignettes, so added some supporting grunts, advancing under cover of the tanks, the last 3pics show the design for my Chimeras, I will build up the hull slightly under the turret so it is horizontal, i have added a mantlet to the assault gun, still debating the colour scheme for these, I'm now thinking blue grey, or field grey, I want a plain single colour because i plan to go the whole hog with weathering, and single colour will bring out the effects, the infantry are yet to be converted, all ideas and comments welcome, more pics on my blog.

Hi guys, the base colour done, it's hard to tell in the light, but there is a nice subtle shading on these, the blue grey has come out just the way I wanted, what do you think? These will get the works when it comes to weathering, just need the base to dry. More pics on my blog.

Hi guys, haven't done much hobby stuff lately, was going to do some painting today but it's been to hot over the last couple of days, so decided to do some work on my long neglected 15mm Tau army.
I was originally going to use Khurasan Felids as the basis for my Tau (see link below)
http://gunnerswargamming.blogspot.com.au/search/label/15mm%20Tau
However I have returned to my original choice, CMG Ygs, these are nearly finished, I have 25 fire warriors and 5 stealth suits, the fire warriors just need better weapons and some small details added, the stealth suits need shoulder armour, helmet and some small details, I am thinking of turquoise and white with some orange details as the colour scheme. All C&C welcome. More pics on my Blog

Lol, that would be cool, you only need to make 2 sides and you will always have an opposing army, I'm just a megalomaniac and have to attempt making multiple forces, but the same rule applies, I will always have opposing sides, so you can supply your friend with an army to use.

Hi guys, just an update with some more conversion work, have added some heavy weapons, Tau rifles, antenna, not sure about the stealth suits, I feel they are to top heavy, some questions
1) should I add the antenna to the backs of every trooper? Or just commanders?
2) do the stealth suits pass muster?
3) is there anything else I can do to these to make them even more Tau like?

About rules, man, realistically couldn't you use the current 40K rules? Maybe half the distances, and template sizes... But, flyers, and artillery could really stay the same with movement, and ranges...

Hi guys
While I wait to source some Tau parts for my Titans I thought I would get the basic build together on the grey mech, I changed the legs to a dog leg config by cutting in the middle of the shin and pinning, and filled all the hollow parts with miliiput and gave all the joints dust covers, the weapon arm is sourced from one of the Khurasan L-HACs, bottom shot shows the standing pose.

Hi guys,
Firstly, another call out for help with spare Tau parts, I have had zero luck so far, I need them for my Tau walker conversions, looking for fire warrior weapons, armour, sensors and a couple of heads, I don't need need much, would be happy with enough to convert even 2 walkers, happy to pay or trade.
Here are some shots of what I have finished in this force so far, not all of these models are complete, I would like the finished force to have
some HQ elements
2 large walkers (was going to have 4, but scaled back to 2)
6-9 Crisis Suits (want to have 6 the same as the 3 pictured, and 3 larger ones)
1 drop ship (converted from a poor 2nd hand Hammerhead I bought off Ebay, hasn't arrived yet)
6 armoured vehicles (have made the mock up of one, will make a mould and cast the rest)
4-6 x 12 man infantry sections (may use a different line of figures of further fire warriors, not enough variety in poses in the Ygs, looking at CMGs Protolene Khanate figs)
2 x 5 man stealth suit sections
a heap of drones (will use GZG flying gun drones)

Hi guys, need some opinions on my Tau mech, (its just blu tacked together at the moment) I like it so far, forgot I had some spare parts from the 2 drivers in my Tau Piranha kit that I am using to build a Tau devilfish/hammerhead, I like the small head and weapons, they go a long way to giving it a Tau feel, and I happy with the pose, what else can I do to make it more Tauish? I have guitar strings I can use for cables, but think that may make it look less Tau.

I love this log and I love all of your work on these 15mm armies. I'm so very happy that you are still posting updates here on Dakka, please don't ever stop. I like the look of the Tau but I would suggest adding some type of "jump jet" to the back of the large walker and possibly your force leader's suit. The Tau seem to use a lot of rectangular shaped backpack type "thingies" with square thruster ports on their battle suits. I think your idea of adding a drone to the back is a good one as well. I have some spare Tau bits that I would love to donate to your project if you still need them. Drop me a pm and I'll put together a "supply drop" to send you this weekend when I get paid. Hi guys, I do other things besides my 15mm 40K so will start posting these here as well, I'm going to break up the finished apoc survivors into several posts, as there are just to many pics, here are the Walking dead survivors,
Daryl - he looks like he has been holding up in the Cheesburger consortium and has put on 40 kgs, re sculpted the hair, otherwise stock figure.
Rick - stock figure, except I drilled out the left knee and sculpted a tear in his pants, and re did his hair to look more like Rick, I was going to do him in all black, but I started to noticed it seems like nearly every character in the walking dead is wearing black, so I went with the tan shirt and black pants.
Glenn - the fig has a hoody, this was the only pic I could find with him in a hoody, so went with that scheme, besides, there's no black, he still looks more African American than Korean, didn't get the skin colour right.
Carl - stock fig with the troopers hat relocated, I reshaped the hat to a more realistic feel.
All C&C welcome.

Hi guys
As I wait for my Tau Mech and crisis suits undercoat to dry (hence the paint splatter on my thumb) I am starting on one of my Imperial Titans, this one will be a Warhound, the original kit is a Marrok Battlesuit by CMG, the kit is way to small for a Warhound, so I am making it 14-15mm taller by adding an extension at the waist, extending the thigh, and building up the feet, I am bulking out the head so a pilot would realistically be able to fit, (although it should really be able to fit 2 pilots) and bulking out and widening the body, thoughts?

59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi Bossfearless - why 15mm? not many people outside of the 15mm wargaming community realize how big it is, and how much product there is, its my chosen scale, I find it the perfect compromise between size and detail, I have a nostalgic connection with Warhammer, I bought my first citadel figure in the mid 80s, whilst I like the figs and fluff, I prefer to create my own in my chosen scale, I collect other genres in 15mm as well.
64018
Post by: Freytag93
Looks like a good start. Unfortunately, it still looks way too small to be a warhound. However, I think it would work well as a knight. If that's not something that you want, I think building a suitable base would really help bring the height up and make it look more epic.

Yeah, I think the upgraded wheels look better, though you could try mixing up the big wheels in the back and have the skinny reinforced wheels in the front to give it that musclecar (muscletruck?) look that orks dig.
The weathering and rivets help pull everything together. Can't wait for it to get primed up so it gets all uniform (before getting orky).

Looking like a good start. The horns really make em' look like the oldschool Orc designs. Once they're green they'll be instantly recognizable.

Thanks CC, doing more work to them, going to give some Black Ork type helmets. Automatically Appended Next Post: Hi guys, one concern I had when planning my 15mm Space orc army was the seeming lack of Orc minis, I thought I may struggle with variety in poses etc, however I am finding that there is actually quite a large number of suitable figures, my Khurasan Brunt herd figs have just arrived and I am eager to start cutting them up and Orcafying them, here is a pic of the available poses, and a size comparison against 2 GZG and 2 Khurasan Orcy types, they are nice and hefty and will be great as heavier troops, I will be sculpting boots on them, cutting off the tails and faces and giving them orc faces, armour and helmets, happy days.

I think the bulky-ness is about right, though I feel some of the armor is a little too rounded for orcs proper. They tend to be sharper in their angles. But there is no doubt that they're big and mean for sure.

Post by: Chemical Cutthroat
Just having a quick slapdash of color on them already has them looking good and orky. Weathering and chipping is going to be important on the truck to make it look proper bashed up, but I don't think you'll have a problem with that. Its a good start!

Thanks Cap'n and CC

I think the coloured panels are the problem, definitely evokes wiggles for me.
54374
Post by: Chemical Cutthroat
Rust will help, but so would colors showing through on the truck from the 'donor vehicle' to break up the yellow. Painting a Bad Moonz vehicle straight yellow can be eyebleed sometimes, which is why a lot of guys use and undercolor of the looted vehicle, like Ultramarines for looted Rhinos or different Eldar craft. Helps break up the Taxi-Cab feeling.
Those guys are gonna look ace after a dip. What're you basing them on? Obviously a coin of some kind?

Hi guys, the next 15mm 40K army off the ranks is the Sisters of Battle, I am using Prydians from The Ionage, I bought 2 packs of the females and a male command pack, I have converted the males to female, and added details, they aren't finished, they will all get tabbards, I have 40 of these, the pics aren't that great, they will have Rhino transports, and maybe a small walker or 2, some jump pack troops, and maybe some allies, what colour do you think I should do them? I was thinking to make them as close to the 28mm version of doing them Black with red material and white hair and details, but I also thought white with pink material and details would look good, thoughts?

A good start, (Had to go to your blog cause the pics on Dakka are broken on my end for some reason). I'd go Black and Red for your sanity, as white and pink are really... I dunno. I don't think those colors do the SoB justice. It cements them as girly in a grimdark world.
Though I thought there was a group of them that did black and green, which was kind of cool. I'd go for the darker colors in general, since they'll be offset by all the FLAMES.

I think they're looking sharp. The little details on them look great, like the gold trim and the white lining on the tabards.
Is there an unwritten law somewhere that say all SoB must have white hair? There must be an entire planet somewhere in the Imperium where the underclass toils in the fume-filled hives making hair bleach.
59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi CC, not sure why SoBs have white hair, the most common I have seen is all white or all black, but with black armour, black hair would be to much, I think it has something to do with conformity and uniformity, anyway, at 15mm I need them to closely resemble their 28mm cousins, so that people instantly recognise them.

Jesus wept man you have some talent. I can't sculpt GS stuff for the life of me so there is zero chance I could ever do this myself.
But 15mm 40k on a 6x4 board covered in 15mm urban GrimDark ruins......that might make make my internal nerd barometer explode.
I'm not talking epic with Titans and such...just a good ole 1500 point game in 15mm on a 6x4. Wow. What a sight that would be.
Edit: yeah we play 15mm Battlegroup: Overlord with a lot of Battlefront/ Flames of War models individually based. It's so nice to go from 28 to 15 and to practically triple your board space. It will be hard for us to ever go back to 28 unless we are doing a proper squad based skirmish.
Edit 2: Whoa whoa whoa I just looked at the first 7 pages of this.didnt realize you had all those other sculpts. If I lived in Oz I'd be seeking you out like a homing missile to build a table and get some 15mm 40k gaming started.
59386
Post by: Imperial Templari
Hi SB, there are enough 15mm figs to be able to do something similar without the exactness, these SOBs are Ionage minis, just buy them as is and paint them up, they will be close enough, no need to go to my lengths, I just enjoy the modelling side of things.

Hi guys
For a long time I have only done commissions for friends, I have now decided to extend that to all, I do all scales and genres/eras.
Price will depend on scale, subject, whether I am doing any conversions/sculpting, whether I need to assemble figs/vehicles, and the size of the project, as a general guide, for a straight uncomplicated paint job with no assembly.
Prices are Australian dollars
15mm - foot $3.50, mounted $7
20mm - foot $5, mounted $ 10
28mm - foot $7, mounted $ 14
Vehicles /guns- will quote when I know subject/scale and how much assembly is required.
Flags/standards - quote when I know scale/subject.
Add $1/28mm or 50c/15mm each for complicated paint jobs e.g. Tartan, heraldry, (I don't count camo as complicated) or small conversions, or basing, or assembly of a foot , $2 for mounted e.g. Perry/Victrixs plastics ,so a 28mm foot knight that has heraldry and required converting or assembly and I did the basing would cost $10
You pay all postage, I am located in N.S.W Australia.
I can be contacted at
dan.dunbar@hotmail.com
or on my blog
http://gunnerswargamming.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/now-taking-commissions-gunners-painting.html
I really only paint to 1 standard (examples below) I would say it's somewhere between tabletop and display, let's call it good quality tabletop standard.

Hi guys
An update on my 15mm Blood Angels, making a paper dred, firstly I decided to re print the model at 70% rather than 60%, only because my 15mm Blood Angels are very large so I wanted my dred to fit in, most people would be happy with 60% I believe,
I decided to use superglue rather than white glue, it would have been to slow to dry, the superglue worked well, I just had to be careful of my fingers with such a small model, the model is coming along nicely, but it is a rather slow process, this is about 3-4 hours work, done whilst watching TV, although it looks quite detailed, all the detail is in print and will be lost when painted, so I will have to 3D the detail with plasticard rod etc, I'm pretty happy with the results so far, it is a lot sturdier then I thought it would be, let me know what you think.

Hi guys
These guys are ready for undercoating (can anyone think of any improvements before I do this?) the side crew are only blu taced on, I only gave the Space Marines beaky helmets, back packs and shoulder armour was not going to fit in the cockpit. The morning sun glare is hiding all the detail, I'll take more after the undercoat.

Hi guys
I gave the speeders a couple of coats of PVA to try and smooth out the surface, despite the rough finish it is an improvement, and will at least seal the surface to help the paint/washes from being soaked up by the spongy plastic. Will start the painting tomorrow.
this next model was printed by the same company, it is based on a Thunderhawk, but his to small to be a 15mm Thunderhawk, and is more suited to 6mm, I have tried to bulk it out with card stock armour plates, and will use it as a small drop ship, carrying maybe 2 squads.
