If you lived in the 40k universe, what would you like to be (Within reason, as we can't have 30-something Abbaddons, we just don't need that amount of fail ).

I would be a chaos scorcerer, working for chaos undivided in the black legion. The reason being that psykers are some of the coolest things in 40k (IMO), and I like the idea of being able to troll people with magical powers etc

I would be a Khorne Terminator Lord working for the Red Cosairs. Being able to plunder in the name of bloodshed and power would be cool.

What I would like to be is a commissar just for the leather jackets

What I would be however is dead.

A farmer who lives on an Agri World in Segmentum Solar very close to Terra where I am by and large safe. Barring that, a storm trooper, I get to remain a normal human while still being an extremely competent soldier.

Edit: Actually I would probably make a good commissar.

Realisticly speaking id be an average nobody slaving away in the great imperial machine till I die. Kinda like life as it is. Minus the imperial machine.

However if I could pick whatever id like... I'd like to be a Necron Overlord.
As to why... well.. Immortal and pretty much indestructable. And even if my body is destroyed I can transfer my consciousness to a backup. Hell yeah. Though preferably with my sanity intact.

My first choice would have been a Tau battlesuit pilot. ( its a battlesuit. nuff said ) But Tau only live an average of 40 years. So yeah.. Immortal super robot overlord it is. Besides im sure necrons could build a battlesuit of their own. Heck with mind transfer interface you could BE the battlesuit. but I digress.

Nothing. There is no right answer to this, unlike Star Wars, Star Trek, or even Dune, as far as Sci-Fi settings go, 40k is just about the worst possible as far as 'Would you want to live here?' goes.

The leader of a moderately large Chaos Astartes warband.

No corruption, no devotion to the unholy gods, just me, some faithful marines, one name Xarl, because that's just a f*cking awesome name, a good ship, and lots of raiding.

Preferably a splinter group of the original Legions, not like those cowardly thin-blood mongrels who flock to the banners of the Blood Reaver.

Combines the two best things ever conceived by human kind: honest piracy, and Space Marines.

All you need is to be able to shout and use somebody as a human shield/pincushion

Only if you don't mind being fragged. You need to know when someone has to die in order to preserve the formation, and when they are doing well enough on their own. You also have to be able to notice signs of corruption and possible treason and be tough enough to earn the respect of less civilized regiments should you be placed in one of them. It is like being an IG officer on hard mode because your soldiers will shoot you in the back for doing your job.

If I was a marine it'd have to be a scout squad sergeant. I like to teach and train others and love the sneaky sneaky slit your throat styles.

Would carry a stalker pattern silenced bolt pistol, a power blade and a shotgun for when things get loud.

Alternately, a Ordo Xenos inquisitor of the radical bent, working to learn from the alien tech to get a competitive advantage against the imperiums biggest threats, the Tyranids an Necrons.

I'd be carrying an exitus pistol, plasma pistol, iron halo, and shock maul.

Hmm. I'm torn.

Possibly a Daemonette. Good looks, cuddles, good food, and immortality.

A Battle Sister, just for those CUTE little bob haircuts.

Anyway...As for candidates of my own gender...(Yes, I am male)...

A Chaos Lord. A large army and host of attendents, baroque brazen armour, a great big weapon, and provided I do well enough, immortality.

Or possibly a Hive Tyrant, even though they are technically genderless. Total, utter, foolproof immortaility, big enough to crush a pansy Marine under my glistening chitinous hooves, and hopefully a huge tumour-firing cannon and WINGS.

A commissar probably. Why? I do my best to keep morale up in real life, would have to be a pretty bad ass soldier to be one, and would be separate from the chain of command technically. My only issue with it is being stuck with a bolt pistol and sticking out like a sore thumb. I also believe in alternate methods of keeping the soldiers in line that doesn't involve execution ala Cain style.

Failing this role I'd like to be an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Why? Because fire is fun, yelling "burn heretic" is fun, and I like the hat.

Second, but most likely the better choice. Would be a Daemon prince. Literally being a god who rules overa planet of your own creation and you can't be killed, just "banished" would be awesome.

What I would want to be:
A noble Lord-Governor of a planet not constantly getting harassed by Chaos/Xenos, or
a dashing Rogue Trader, master and commander of my own kilometer-long starship, traversing space the way I see fit.

What I would most likely actually be:
A drudging manufactorium employee being worked to death and getting organ-harvested, or
a PDF conscript whose life gets wasted in some civil war or who gets drafted into the IG only to be ripped apart by an Ork Power Klaw right in the first battle, or
a Ministorum Cleric spouting propaganda and inciting mutant pogroms, fervently believing in the big lie.

Failing that a baneblade/shadowsword tank commander, imagine having all that firepower at your disposal

Princeps of an Emperor Titan, Warmonger-class. I'd get the mental challenge of battling the machine spirit, enough solitude to keep me happy and not overwhelmed but enough socialisation to have a few friends, and the gun platform to end all gun platforms pretty much all to myself. My titan would be armed with one Vengeance Cannon, one Doomstrike Missile Launcher, two Vortex Support missiles, one Apocalypse Missile Launcher, one Quake Cannon, one Laser Blaster and one Inferno Gun. I'd be virtually invincible, not only encase in thick armour and protected by enormous bulk and banks of shielding but also kilometres behind the frontline, bombarding the entire enemy army into a pulp from so far away they'd have no hope of the slightest retaliation - let alone enough to bring down my machine.
I'd naturally be fairly highly-ranked within my Legion, but not in a position where a great number of people relied upon me to issue direction - such roles would be reserved for those in frontline titans who would lead from the front. Meanwhile, I'd almost act as a guardian, shredding anything that posed a threat to my fellow titans from long range.

I more likely than not would be a faithful loyal Tac Marine Sergeant or otherwise Astartes Captain, leading my troops from the front with several hundred of years of experience under my belt.

Not sure if anyone's posted this yet but I'm paraphrasing from someone else's idea from a similar thread...

Deathstrike Missile Launcher crewman. Day consists of:

1. Wait for missile to prepare
2. Hear firing notification
3. Push big red button
4. Enjoy the sight of large explosion
5. Pop open a beer and watch porn for the rest of the battle

with my high lift capacity I would totally be a heavy weapons trooper.

well, actually they'd probably just use me to carry the ammunition, maybe the Rocket Launcher as well and still not get to fire it because someone in the squad always out performs me in the practice range...

A Noise marine sergent, because blasting music loud enough to expload heads is an awesome ability, nuff said, oh, and worshippping the god of sex would be equally as awesome, so I can be sadistic, plesured, and having my way with a lot of women who once where part of a raided planet.
What happens when you collect slaanesh and read your GF's copy of fifty shades of grey, you start wanting to become a evil, sexually centered rapist ultra-human with a massive speaker on a gun.

I would definitely want to be a Chaplain for either the White Consuls, one of the angrier chapters like BT or even the Marines Malevolent. Taking care of the more spiritual side of things sounds fun.

I'd like the be an Arbites judge in some backwater system. I'd be almost an inquisitor but less trouble and when things get bad I can crack some heads with a power maul.

Well, Id be a human, because screw xenos. (even though I play xeno... ah well) At this point, Id like to be a Space marine, and knowing myself Id fall to chaos. Maybe Slaanesh or Tzeentch. Not Khorne or Nurgle. Unlimited knowledge or unlimited sex? Hm... Id pick knowledge, but sadly might end up with awkward Tentacles all over. So, a Tzeentch dedicated Warsmith of the Iron Warriors, whos trying desperately to become a Daemon Prince. Immortality! Woo!

A null-fetus in a stasis chamber.

Out of everything in 40k, a null-fetus has maximum psyker kill count with zero energy.

Okay, done being "clever". How about a Thousand Sons Rubric?

Nothing like the sensation of falling in darkness for hundreds of years until someone pops your armor seal.

I would have to go for a Necron Phaeron of some dynasty, with an art collection rivaling Trazyn's.

Eldar Farseer or Warlock (depending on how motivated I was). These guys know where it's at, they don't have three mutant hearts and ugly square faces, and they get to live on awesome craftworlds surrounded by some of the most sophisticated, educated and cultured trappings to be found anywhere in the galaxy. Oh and on the weekends they get to go pwn the face off puny mortal races, and pretty much ally or betray whoever they want whenever they want to achieve the "path".

The Governor of a Pleasure World.

I think I win.

However, since I was a real life Marine, I guess I'd end up as a Veteran Sergeant in some chapter being groomed for eventual captaincy.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, duty, honor, pride of service, yeah I'd eat that up in any universe XD. Given my current training to be a gunsmith and previous life fixing aircraft I'd probably be a tech marine

If I'm not taken by the Astartes I'd actually like to be working for the Inquisition. Good food, weapons, heretics to light on fire with a melta gun.... and the songs are just so /catchy/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqgZnvfJ9Jg
